Yago, #14, Monday 5/30/16: The Return of Yago

Woohoo! Yago is back. This was a simple episode. Here are the highlights:

- Yago has his mom give Sara the keys to the house that Omar bought and refurbished for when they got married.

- Ambar makes her move on Yago, but Yago gets Katia to interrupt before things go too far.

- Abel bonds with the witness he's supposed to intimidate, and the kid takes off. (With a gun?)

Yago meets with Melina in a church. This time it is Yago who has called 1-800-HIYA-MOM. He gives her an envelope and asks her to give it to Sara, along with the keys to the house that Omar had bought for them to live in after they got married. (There's an unused piece of property that no one has sold or moved into after all these years? Really?) Melina is worried that Lucio will find out and be upset, but I think that's exactly what Yago has in mind.

Flashback: Omar shows the house to Lucio. He's going to fix it up. Lucio argues. I miss how Omar says he can afford to buy a house at this young stage of his life, but Lucio thinks Omar should wait and save his money. (Lucio is JEALOUS JEALOUS JEALOUS!)

Bruno updates Lucio. He's having a hard time making headway on his investigation. He thinks someone is interfering.

At the end of our last episode, Abel nabbed Lorenzo, son of the guard that Abel killed during the heist. Abel is supposed to find out what the boy knows and make sure he doesn't cause any additional damage. Well, old softie Abel sees the boy shaking, takes the hood off the boy's face, and puts his gun away. He says he was a friend of the boy's father, and he's protecting the boy from Bruno, brother of the killer. (Lorenzo says he was two when his father was murdered, and I think he says he didn't get a good look at the guys who did it.) Abel also lets the boy think that he's the guy who's sent all those anonymous donations over the years.

Ambar goes to Yago's place for a hot date. Good news: she got a local job, so she won't have to go out of town. She makes her move on Yago, climbs on top of him and goes crazy. They go into the bedroom and start taking off their clothes. Yago excuses himself and goes into the bathroom, where he cools off and sends a quick text.

Melina gives Sara the house keys. Sara flashes back to when Omar was late for a date, saying that he was working on a surprise for her. Sara realizes that this must have been the surprise.

Yago comes back to bed with Ambar, but before anything serious happens, loud, hysterical sobs waft throughout Yago's apartment. It's Katia, seemingly drunk and despondent with boyfriend problems. Ambar hurriedly dresses, and she and Yago take turns comforting Katia. Eventually, Katia starts getting dry heaves, and Ambar realizes it's time to go home.

Katia is, of course, not drunk. And she tells Yago she's a little bummed that Ambar left so soon. Apparently, Katia had lots more material she could have used.

Abel sleeps with one eye open in his nightmare bedroom with a big red neon light which is supposed to be decorative, but actually makes his room look like a late-night diner where people get murdered. Abel watches as Lorenzo picks up Abel's gun. Abel yells, startling the boy. Lorenzo says he's fascinated by guns and asks if Abel has ever killed anyone. Abel says no. Liar. Lorenzo's father was going to teach him to shoot someday when he was older.

So what does Abel do the next day? He takes the kid shooting. Seriously. And it appears that the boy is a good shot.

Ambar tells Sara about her hot date fizzle. Sara reminds Ambar that the doctor told her to hold off on intimacy for now. Ambar says that if it were up to that doctor, Ambar would be bedridden.

Sara goes to the house and reads Omar's letter. He says she deserves a palace, but this is all he can give her for now. Blah blah, mush, we'll fill it with the laughter of our children, yadda yadda. (Yago is flashing back to Omar renovating the place.)

Mom texts Yago to let him know she gave Sara the keys. Yago calls Sara while she's holding a small wooden horse and looking at a photo of herself with Omar. Yago doesn't really have a lot to say, but he notes that Sara sounds odd, and I guess she tells him where she his because he meets her there a little later.

Abel tells Teo that Lorenzo is still at his house. The boy's definitely a witness.

Knocking at the door of Omar's would-be love nest, Yago flashes back to when he was furnishing and decorating the house. He tells Lucio that the wooden horse is for Sara, because she's always wanted a horse. And he carefully places the framed photo of himself and Sara on an upstairs table.

Sara opens the door, looking so sad that Yago just has to hold her. Yeah, sure, it's all part of his revenge scheme. *snort*

Abel goes home and finds Lorenzo missing, and I think the gun is gone too.

Sara tells Yago about this house that could have been hers if only she hadn't betrayed the only man she ever loved. "There are mistakes that can follow you for the rest of your life," she tells Yago, as if he didn't know. The two mistakes stare into one anothers' eyes as one or both of them flash back to Sara saying goodbye to Omar as he boards a train.

Abel tells Lucio about Lorenzo flying the coop. I'm sure we'll see the rest of this conversation tonight.

Yago advises Sara not to wallow in pain. She accuses him of trying to soothe her with phrases from self-help books that he uses to charm women. "Don't hurt my sister; she's more fragile than I am," she warns Yago.

Their faces are very close.

Next time: Their faces get closer.

Comments:
Yago thinks he's messing with Sara's head/heart/emotions, but it's really himself he's screwing.

After just one day of being a mentor, Abel was able to make a messed up mini-me.

Looking forward to your recap, Julie!

Yeah, between Yago and Abel I think a couple of people lost track of their mission last night.

(Recap is ready)

Oh it feels good so thank you Julie.

"Apparently, Katia had lots more material she could have used"

It's sickening to watch a man after all the deceit groveling, practically begging, at Sara's feet. This isn't revenge but a guy that won't let go the fact he was waaaaaayyyyyyyy more into her than she into him. Feathering a nest as she plots.

It was kinda stupid they end up at the shack to have this conversation.

Yago better stop it with Ambar, even if revenge not on his mind he is into her married sister.

When Omar was leaving on the train the glance between Lucio and Sara implied to me they not only were co-conspirators but lovers already.

Abel's an idiot.

Gracias Julie. I was having withdrawals from Yago already. It was good to see it again :)

We all seem to forget that Yago was Omar before . It hurt him quite bad to enter a place that never came to be. Not sure if Yago is charming Sara for revenge or because he still loves her. My bet is that he will fall for both sisters and will purchase them both as trophy wives :)

I laughed when Katia came up to Yago's at such late hour. These aren't very proffesional relations. No candy for Katia !

I LOL'd when Lucio just tossed that picture down but later quickly apoligizing only for Omar using the opportunity to finger Sara.

Did Omar/Yago write that letter in prison or before he went to prison. If in prison that was quite sadistic of Yago.

Thanks Julie! That was perfect.

Abel just taught a distraught kid how to use a gun, after telling him that Bruno, the brother of his father's (supposed) killer, has put a hit out on him. Now, just what did he think would happen? Bruno's in danger!

What would Teo have done had Abel decided to kill Lorenzo? Teo definitely has the hardest job having to befriend and babysit Abel, while Yago gets to wine, dine and romance Ambar and Sara, and mess with Lucio.

Loved Katia this episode. She really is a true friend to come in the middle of the night to help Yago out of a tight spot. I like that Ambar wasn't the least bit jealous, and understood that men and women can just be friends. Sara didn't see it that way. Ambar doesn't deserve what Yago is doing to her.

In fairness, Yago is trying NOT to do it to Ambar. But yeah, Yago is messing with her heart, which by the way doesn't work properly, and whatever happens to her will be totally his fault.

And I agree Teo has the hardest job, though it seems Katia is the one most likely to be arrested.

I don't know what Yago's original plan was, but it couldn't have included Ambar because he didn't know of her existence. (Which suggests very poor detective work on his/Fidel's part. Who hatches a revenge plan without some preliminary research?) I'm thinking he should have stuck to his original plan, whatever it was, even if Ambar made it easier for him to get close to the family.

Damian was also not part of Yago's original plan, though, so I have to wonder how much of Yago's original plan is even usable. Come to think of it, we're not even sure of the outcome he was looking for. Does he want them all dead? All in prison? Heaven help him, does he want to put Lucio and Abel away, but have Sara at his side? (Probably he planned to win her back and THEN destroy her, but I don't know if he can go through with it.)

Welcome back Yago & viewers

Tks so much Julie.

I am going to be so angry if Yago ends up with Sara!!!!!! It will ruin the novela for me

I've read some of the 3 Anas recaps & it looks like I made the right decision to skip the cliche ridden TN.

I'm watching Gran Hotel on Hulu & enjoying it very much, fun to make comparisons to El Hotel.

Julie- I think his original plan had Lucio at the center. I think he always wanted to believe in some goodness in Sara (some reason WHY she did what she did in court). And I think he probably still wanted to believe that Abel was innocent. I think his original plan was to make Sara and Lucio trust and believe in Yago, as much as Omar did in them. And then stab them in the back by financially destroying them, taking everything they own, and destroying their marriage by seducing Sara (just as he think Lucio stole Sara from Omar). Now, other layers have been added and have clarified some things (Abel's involvement), and complicated things (Ambar's existence, Damian's mysterious role). And we know that when he learns he and Sara share a son, things will get even messier!

Oh gosh, you're right Vivi, the "plan" is even worse off than I thought. I forgot that the extent of Abel's participation was a surprise to Yago, too. So Yago has pretty much had to rethink everything.

I don't see much evidence of a real plan as such anyway. Yago keeps laying out various traps to mess with Lucio, Abel, and Sara, but is he actually gaining any ground? So far it seems he is only inconveniencing them, while Bruno is really rattling them.

(I don't think Bruno will get killed, but if he does, I pity anyone who incurs Alejandra's wrath. I have a feeling she's tough when she means business.)

I think Fidel has an end game but Yago only wants to test Sara to see if she ever loved him. He can hardly contain himself as he baits her and she speaks of Omar. It's pitiful actually and I imagine way off plan. He contacts his mother to give keys and a letter to Sara so she can see what she really, really missed out on.

Lucio didn't have to win Sara.

Thanks, Julie. Fine recap.

So Abel bonds with the murdered security guard's son and even teaches him to handle a pistol. I hate that the kid thinks Jonas's kindnesses come from Abel. The kid is troubled but seems nice at his core.

I would not want to have Yago as my venganza team leader. I don't think he had a plan to toy with Sara, but he's going off script because she's still in his heart and he can't help it. El corazón manda. He can see her regret and longing for Omar. But I do agree with an earlier comment that these two wouldn't have made it as a couple anyway. She's too warped (by her dad and the grifting life) and he's too straight arrow. Was it Lucio who said she got the husband she deserved? Yep, she did.

That house looked pretty clean - maybe it's used as a time-share or something.

Katia was a hoot.

Air B&B perhaps

Thank you Julie :)

Tofie: Abel looked like he was going to cry whenever Lorenzo wanted to get revenge for his father's death.

Deep down, I think Abel wanted to confess, but can't.

Niecie: Looks like Lorenzo will whack either Bruno & his GF.

Thanks for the recap Julie! I'm happy Yago is back, but I'm also scared that Yago and Sara will end up together which, like Variopinta said, would ruin the novela. I actually want Yago and Ambar to end up happy together and everyone else punished, but who knows how it will end. I might sit this one out until after I know what happens in the final episode. I'm getting sick of shows that ruin the characters by the end and make me wish I had stopped watching earlier (How I Met Your Mother, Castle, etc.)

J, I feel your pain - but I have faith that Yago and Sara will not end up together. At least not for the ever-after. That's because it's already way too late for her to make up for what she's done. I think the best she can hope for is to repent, do her best to make things right, and then die.

In fact, it's still not clear to me that Yago isn't in control of his transactions with Sara. He looks like he's letting temptation get in the way, but it seems just as possible to me that he's enjoying the effect that he's having on Sara. Perhaps his every lustful impulse is getting sublimated into his thirst for revenge.

Although, if Sara attacks him the way Ambar did, I don't see how he'll be able to hold her off.

Julie- I agree with you. Seems like WAY too much water has passed under and over the Sara-Omar bridge for Yago to ever be able to have a relationship with her again. This has nothing to do with whether or not they'll have an affair and some hot monkey lovin' in that cabin. I think THAT will happen. But a happily ever after? No way!

Yago may be struggling with his moral compass but he doesn't have anything to lose. He lost his family, his reputation, his job, his friends and his love. At the end of the day Yago is doing the same things in reverse. Is he evil because of it? Yes because revenge is always counterproductive. Yago's life will get more complicated if he takes revenge but he would get madder if he didn't do anything.

Countx Alacran: I want Yago to go full Eladio Gomez-Luna & go completely PSYCHO!

The two mistakes stare into one anothers' eyes as one or both of them flash back to Sara saying goodbye to Omar as he boards a train.

Ah yes, "the two mistakes". This revenge plot is getting very murky, but thoroughly enjoyed the return of Yago and your fine recap, Julie. Also loved "their faces are close" and Previews: "Their faces get closer".

Oh my. Katia is SUCH. A. HOOT. I could watch that scene over and over again. Man, love the actress and what she's doing with this role. Don't care who Yago ends up with as long as we can have lots of Katia scenes along the way.

Also, since everyone on line knows I'm a soft-hearted, applesauce-for-brains idiot, I will confess that I have a tender heart for Abel. He obviously is not a killer, even though he has killed two men. Does that make sense? Yeah, I thought so. Absolutely idiotic. But he's a tragic figure for me. A very conflicted dolt who accidentally shot one person, and reluctantly another.

I know, I know, they're both dead. But...I feel sorry for him somehow.

Okay. Shoot me too.

Thanks Julie.

Now that the show is on at 10pm I will be behind in my viewing. Thanks so much for the wonderful recap! I look forward to watching this one when I get home.

I hope Ambar doesn't die and moves far away. Actually, I wish Yago had pushed her more to take that job.

I'll be awfully disappointed if Yago and Sara get together. I think it is inevitable now though.

Whatever Yago's plan was, he seems way off course. Maybe he overestimated his abilities to control his feelings. I'm still at a loss on how he could have any positive feelings for Sara. Now seeing her with Lucio through her own free will all of these years later should have killed whatever doubts he had about her involvement.

Oh JudyB I hear what you are saying about Abel. He is not truly evil but he is dangerous. He planned but didn't kill Teo and now Lorenzo. He is a lost soul and needs to be put out of his misery.

Instead of going BSC like Eladio Gomez-Luna, Yago could go hyper-BSC like the character Martin did in Lo Imperdonable.

Thank you Julie, great job. I'm so glad I started this one, it's so great.

I suppose that Melina must have voice activated texting.

After reading the comments on the different episodes, I think I'm the only one who has a soft spot for Abel. He's been given a crappy hand to deal with, and I see him struggle constantly between good and evil, he's the most complex character in this entire show. I go from being disgusted by him to being touched by him.

As far as Sara And Yago, I trust that he's out to ruin her marriage, and really stick it to Lucio. I think any tenderness he feels for her is definitely overshadowed by the cold reality of what she did to him.

My theory on the who wronged Fidel? The guy who is Damian's boss. The one who Fidel told Yago to not bother with. That will all come later.

A fave moment-- Katia calling Ambar Amber in English, in a snooty rich American girl accent, as she and Yago made breakfast.

Judy and Carvivlie, FWIW I feel the same about Abel. If he's killed anyone besides the two people we know about, it's because he already felt that he was a killer. He's a hothead and he's made some very bad choices. But I don't think this was the life he was actually cut out for. He's responded poorly to the events in his life, but I don't think he's cut from the same stone-cold material that Lucio is. If he'd grown up caring for, say, wounded puppies he'd be a very different person.

Alas. We have to play with the cards we have and not the cards we wish we had. We saw what happened when Abel was given a wounded puppy. Said puppy is running around with a gun and a target in mind.

But I can't forget that Abel was the first who suggested letting Omar off the hook. The only reason he didn't was because he thought Omar was dead. Ideally he would have still gone through with it, but I understand why he didn't.

I still have the least sympathy for Lucio. Lucio had the most reason to want Omar out of the way, and (correct me if I'm wrong) unlike his co-conspirators, he never shed a tear over what Omar and his family went through. And he's been able to look those people in the face ever since then.

JudyB, Carvivlie, Julie - I confess to harboring sympathy for Abel too. The first killing was an accident and it started because he was defending a woman from an obnoxious lout that was trying to manhandle her. He agreed to Lucio and Sara's casino theft cause he was in a bind after defending Omar against the guy insulting him. The second killing was under duress and (stupidly) following Lucio's orders. Abel continually makes bad choices, and that pitiful rat-tail is a cry for help. It will not end well for him, but he does have heart. Maybe he'll die nobly saving somebody else.

JudyB
It is very difficult to feel any sympathy for someone that has that ridiculous rat tail

Unless you see the rat tail as another of his unfortunate choices Variopinta. Have to admit I also feel sympathy for people who dress badly and have disastrous hair. You know...you know...deep down everybody wants to look good. But some folks just can't pull it off. For me, that's another reason I have a soft spot for the guy.

On the other hand, I'd kill for Katia's "do". Wow, what a hair style. Everything about her rings bells.

I think the rat tail is supposed to be a symbol of Abel's regret... so it's a sort of badge of shame, not intended to look good.

Julie: Now Omar's mother is in danger of getting whacked by Lorenzo!

I like that idea Julie.
