Ramadan mubarak, Nandicta! And thank you for bringing us the recap despite hunger zonking. I think you're not too far gone, though, or maybe I'm hungry, too, because the ice cream in that picture doesn't look as terrible as the original Sueño de Horror blend Espe and Ricardo originally ate.

Espe is not thinking straight, and I think her kids should just tell Ricardo the secrets and let him help. She'll forgive them eventually. But first she should take the money from Ernesto and try to live! She can worry about paying him back later, when she's not dead and can still have an income and be there for her kids! Sheesh, woman. "Dignity" doesn't mean that dying of stupidity is somehow noble.

But hey, at least now Pato might hook up with Erasmo, so Esperanza will have another proud stupid person to take her side.

Salma and her will-she-or-won't-she-abort storyline are getting really tedious.

As far as the programming schedule goes, there's definitely an opportunity for clarity at univision.com. In other words, the programming schedule at unvision.com is incorrect. I looked at TVGuide.com, and it's correct in reflecting Rosa de Guadalupe in the SdA time slot and Copa America game in Yago time slot.

There was this tweet from Univision.

Last night I caught on the advance for the next episode that they said "miercoles" instead of "manana" (Can't get my accent on the e and tilde on the n to work).
 

So good to read this instead of watching another episode.

I also thought about Fatmagul (2010), but there's a case in Veracruz, México, where 5 boys (or 4 and one watching) from very rich families raped Daphne Fernández back in 2015. She tried to hide it from her parents but finally broke, the boys posted videos where they apologized to her family but still, the authorities didn't do anything for almost a whole year. Last march police finally got two of the boys and the other two left México. I guess that the one who watched was not charged. Life imitates art? How about Osorio imitates EVERYTHING !!!

I think Luca is not ready for Daffy Duck, and Pedro shouldn't mess with Kristel, who already spent a night in Bangkok with Erasmo under the stars and the fireflies-

Ask yourself this, Esperanza: if YOU were very wealthy, and someone you cared about was going to die if they didn't get treatment, and you'd never even miss the money, you'd want to spend it to help them, right? If you had a friend who was seriously ill and they had a relative who had the money and wanted to help them, would you advise your friend to refuse the money and die, leaving her children behind? I don't think so. So why will you not let Ernesto help you? If you'd be happier to be allowed to help someone, why would you deny someone else the chance to give genuinely helpful assistance when they want to and have offered? All this praying to the virgencita, and the virgencita keeps trying to send you help, and you refuse it because why? Because it is too mundane if it comes through another person and not through some magical twinkling rose?

Irene should stay far away from Ricardo. I can't believe they let someone with his anger management issues near a refuge for abused women.

First and foremost, a big thank you to Kinomathematika, Jarifa, Pablo and Adriana for their eloquent, insightful and witty recaps! I read them all back-to-back and they were simply delightful! The comments left on the episode threads last week were such a treat so thank you to the ever-faithful Diana and Julia for making this small patio such a fun place to hang out! Enduring SdA is worth it just to read your observations, insights, jokes and rants! :)

A shout out to Emeraldrose and Nina who visited the patio last week and sat with us a spell and a warm welcome to Doña Felipa, Elsa/Madame E! and Anon on Sunday @12:12 who I hope will share their insights with us more often from now on. Anyone is welcome to join the fun. Just choose a screen name and jump in!

Now onto the show. Watching SdA these days has become such a cumbersome chore, all I say is thank goodness for this patio. I watched several episodes back-to-back in order to catch up and do this recap and I barely made it. Then I read last week's recaps and comments from Tuesday to Friday back-to-back and I now understand why I need to keep watching SdA to the bitter end. Many people follow recaps & comments to keep up with a show, I follow this show to keep up with the recaps & comments! I need to be in on the joke! :)

Many of the things that aggravated me were already mentioned in the comments so I won't duplicate them here. Two issues weren't pointed out so I'll talk about them here:

1) The Kuris seemed to lose their sh*te over Salma's drinking because of the baby! You can't drink 'cause you're pregnant! Think about the baby! Naggedy nag nag nag! How about the fact that she is 14? Why is nobody (Esperanza included) concerned about the fact that a 14-year old is going out on a night of binge-drinking, that even includes a pre-game (pre-copas), with a bunch of other underage teenagers whose ages range from 14 to 16?

2) There are so many inconsistencies in Anastasia's backstory, the Crayola "writers" don't know whether they are coming or going. The first time Anastasia had dinner with Kracy she said that her father recognized her in the end and left her money to ease his conscience, insinuating that her father had passed away. She burnt through that dough pretty quickly, that's why she is back, attempting to leech off anyone who would let her. Old Vain Viviana corroborated this in the earlier episodes when she said that Anastasia was more distinguusjed than Pato, because she is a Limantour, which means that her father did recognize her and gave her his (supposedly) prestigious last name. Yet, in last week's episodes, Anastasia tells Kracy that her dad gave her mom money to shut her up and that Anastasia spent that money looking for her dad because she believes "he should know he has a daughter". This implies that her father has not recognized her yet. Therefore, how come her name is Anastasia Limantour if her father never recognized her? And how come she slept with Ernesto to get her father out of a financial jam if she doesn't even know her father? Who is writing this utter nonsense? Is this some kind of unsupervised primary school writing project?

Vivi, you asked about typical Moroccan Ramadan foods, so I found this for you: http://moroccanfood.about.com/od/ramadanspecialoccasions/tp/List_of_Ramadan_Recipes.htm The page has photos and fairly accurate recipes. North Africans seem to favor too many sweet dishes at Iftar in comparison to people from West Africa, the Middle East or Southeast Asia. In our family, we tend to prefer more savory and hearty dishes, so we serve an Iftar/Dinner hybrid if you will. The staples you would find on nearly every Moroccan Iftar table are mint tea, fruit juices, Chebbakia (sweet), Sellou (sweet), Harira (soup) and/or Barley Milk Soup, dates, boiled eggs and some form of Moroccan pancake (either sweet or savory) and/or Beghrir, which are spongy Moroccan semolina crepes with little holes in them to soak up the olive oil (or melted butter) and honey goodness (http://moroccanfood.about.com/od/pancakes/r/Beghrir_Recipe.htm). Then, next to the staples, every family prepares savory snacks which are mainly some kind of stuffed pastry and/or stuffed focaccia-type bread. In my family, we prepare proper savory dishes that the vast majority of Moroccans would normally serve at a late dinner. We don't have dinner at my house. We eat a hearty Iftar then a piece of fruit and yogurt or a light snack before going to bed. Yesterday, in addition to the staples, my mother made fish pasties and I made zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta and parmesan as well as stuffed red peppers with ground beef, rice, provolone, marinara sauce, parsley and basil. I was so full I didn't eat afterwards; just had a cucumber and a glass of ice-cold agua de Jamaica (we call it Karkadé in Arab countries).
So here you have it, my friend. A little insight into the Ramadan food-galore in Morocco. I hope this inspires you to try some of the recipes. Please bear in mind that making Chebbakia and Sellou are mammoth tasks that the brave head of the family undertakes once a year ahead of Ramadan and makes enough supply to last the entire month as well as give away to family, friends and acquaintances. I've watched my granny and mother make them many times but I have no idea how to make them myself. It's something that requires a culinary bootcamp! :)

Picking favorites was almost impossible but I loved "Margarita gives Silvana money and Silvana gives Margarita attitude" and "Pato doesn't agree with Esperanza’s novel notion of not asking her bazillionaire ex and father of her daughter for help". Fab.

In addition to the stellar vocabulary, I so enjoy your observations and insights "Cristina and Ricardo exchange unpleasantries. Their verbal sparring is rather forced and exaggerated, when a little nuance could have made it a lot more charming". totally agree.

Julia, I was yelling at Espe to take the money! Forget your stupid pride Esperanza and live for your children's sake if not your own. I also think you are a fool for not realizing Ernesto is hawt. And wealthy. Bury your grudge and instead of moping your death, take steps to try and elevate your life.

Kiko's bullying only to be dissed by Salma was very upsetting.

I've always liked Vivi and for once, I was right about a character. A good heart is buried in that somewhat flaky exterior!

I don't despise Anastasia. But only because I feel she may be a crucial element in keeping Tracy from harming her kids.

I do loathe Sil.

Ricardo? Don't care. Sorry. No, not really sorry at all. ;)

Nandicta- Thanks for sharing your Iftar menu. Yum! There have been a few articles and stories here about obesity and diabetes soaring during Ramadan because of the over abundance of sweets eaten during Iftar. Sounds like your family is being smart mainly sticking to the savory dishes.
 

Thank you, Diana! I totally agree with you and Julia about Esperanza and Erasmo's stoopid "pride"! If your survival and/or the safety of your loved ones is at stake then "pride" does not matter whatsoever! People who act like this are not admirable or noble, they are just egomaniacal jerks who stop at nothing to glorify their own image and to feed their own warped sense of pride.

Please save me a seat at the "I don't give a flying fudge about Ricardo" table. I fear that Osorio has ruined Cris de la Fuente for me. I can't stand to look at him anymore! I noticed that you mentioned last week that you are liking Julián Gil in this. You'll have to fight me for him. I've seen the actor in other TNs before and I enjoy watching him because he plays a decent villain but he's not my type in the looks department so he never registered with me before. Then he dyes his hair darker and I did a double-take! As I watched him in SdA, I started finding him very attractive and suave (mustache and all). So y'all can take Mr. Chilean Muscle while Diana and me share Ernesto of the Hill! :)

On the episode where we all said what we saw (it takes a village), I remember Ernesto left alone after PatoLuca got the call from Pedro saying Esperanza had cancer. Anastasia got there, and since he is not a wasteful guy, invited her champagne he had to celebrate PatoLuca failed engagement. Juárever, there was a blonde woman in the back that THEY WANTED US TO SEE, because before leaving she approached the table and said, ''you look a lot like my daughter''.

That for me was very suspicious. I thought she was Anastasia's mother that had not seen her in a long time and is not sure is her daughter, but if you had not seen in her in a long time, how would you recognize her, right? She is older now and different because people change.
Could she be Anastasia's father's wife, who also have a daughter that looks like her half sister?

Does anyone remembers that or was a part of my own SUEÑO DE AMOR?
 

I'm hoping Selena and Rod see through Kracy's threats and tell the judge the truth. Maybe Kracy will go to jail (aka, revenge incubator) and end up brewing trouble with her former ally, Silvana.

Vivi: You're absolutely right about that! In general, diabetes is becoming a problem for most countries in my region, but the emphasis on sweets during Ramadan surely doesn't help. My mother is diabetic but even before she was diagnosed, my family preferred to have a proper balanced meal instead of gorging on sweets that are mostly empty calories. The Chebbakia and Sellou that I told you about are merely accessories on the table. We put them down then take them away untouched when we clean the table. By the end of the month, my mother ends up giving them away (they keep well for several months). It is also less time consuming to prepare a big salad and a one-pot dish or a veggie pizza pie or a vegetable couscous than prepare a panoply of sweet and fried little amuse-bouches.

That scene you mentioned was indeed very odd, but my understanding of it (and I may be wrong) is that the lady that stopped to compliment Anastasia is the actress's real mother and they offered her a cameo. That's the feeling I got anyway. Mommy is visiting from Argentina, can we please give her a line in the novela, Mr. Producer?

Kinoma: I'm crossing my fingers for those poor kids to leave that witch ASAP. I can't stand to see children cry and those little child actors are so good at it, they just break my heart.

Nandicta, great recap! Thanks for sticking with this monster. I can't stop watching this horroshow.. the patio is too much fun to read! And I have the biggest soft spot for Erasmo. Okay maybe not Erasmo but for Osvaldo de Leon (whos becoming a parent with PyP Monsterrat!)

Jarifa, I miss Subway so much! It was one of my favorite places to grab a quick lunch when I lived in the UK. We don't have Subway here in Morocco. :(

TomBoy, I'm glad you liked the recipes link. Thank you for popping in to say hello and share your opinion with us! I like the actor who plays Erasmo and I look forward to seeing him in something else (I hear that he did an excellent job in "La Malquerida"). However, I feel that the once lovable character of Erasmo has been ruined with that loan shark business and that "I fell in love with my boss's girlfriend after a 30-second conversation" baloney. This Erasmo is a far cry from the one who charmed us in the beginning of the story. I used to have a soft spot for him too (he is a fine specimen) but now I can't stand to look at him, especially in light of where Estrella's human trafficking storyline is going. Maybe a construction site bird bath is in order to reconcile the connoisseurs of male eye candy with Erasmo? Which reminds me, why is nobody taking a shower in this show? It's a circus anyway so why not throw me a few gratuitous shirtless shots of Ric, Ernesto and Erasmo?
 

I don't know how this skippd my mind but thank you Pablo for sharing the story of Daphne Fernández with us. I googled it and you're right, Osorio used the poor woman's story as ratings bait. What an inconsiderate self-interested boor!
