-- Osorio keeps torturing his heroine in his bid to capture ratings at any cost.
A closer look
At Casa Guerrero, Ernesto brings Esperanza flowers and offers to take her to her oncologist’s appointment. He says he is trying to make her current situation more bearable (llevadero).
At Ernesto’s pad, Kracy tells Anastasia to stop boo-hooing. Nobody will find out the truth about the little stunt they pulled to accuse Ricardo of assault and battery. Anastasia is worried she might get into trouble but Kracy reassures her that Ernesto will always be her get-out-of-jail free card, no matter what happens. Anastasia has him by the cobblers, so she has nothing to worry about. Kracy wants Anastasia to stop being so dull (aguada): Let’s down a bottle of wine and dance frantically! Woohoo! Anastasia is in no mood to celebrate and is convinced that Kracy has gone crazy. Kracy protests: She is as sane (cuerda) as they come. At least, she has the good sense to accept that she lost Ricardo forever, while Anastasia continues to cling to the illusion that she’ll get back with Luca someday. The only way Luca will accept being with her again is if she kidnaps him and ties him to a bed. Come on, Kracy! Don’t give her ideas!
The Guerreros and Ernesto are ready to leave for Esperanza’s appointment. Esperanza senses that her kids are hiding something. They were in the kitchen for a long time and it felt like they were arguing in hushed voices. What’s up? Pedro insists that nothing is going on.
At Nueva Luz, the shelter for abused women and abused Ricardos, the down-on-his-luck father recounts to Irene what happened at the judge’s office. He gets the idea of checking the streets’ camera system to provide proof to the judge that Kracy is a lying liar. Baxter, dear, here I come to ride your back and crack a whip!
Dr. Cutie Pie informs Esperanza that she needs to do some blood tests ahead of her surgery.
At Casa Manzanares, the Kuris take turns to chew out Salma. You stole from us. You lied to us. You mistrusted us. You could’ve died. You were spoilt rotten but now it’s over. You are grounded until you turn 40. Etc, etc. Salma tearfully thanks her family for their unconditional support and announces that she has made the decision to give the baby up for adoption. Astrid sat silently through this awkward conversation. She was waiting for her mother to come pick her up and, no doubt, give her a smack upside the head for her recklessness. ¡Sasquatch!
Kiko is having his physical therapy session and thinking about Salma. He is convinced that she is a good person deep down, it’s just that she is suffering at the moment. Estrella begs to differ. Everyone has their own suffering to contend with, but they don't go around treating people like dirt. Toby, the nosy physiotherapist wants to know why Estrella suffers. Because the klutz she is in love with is stuck in rehab, that’s why.
At the MAPA School construction site, the construction workers' official anthem is playing. Erasmo is daydreaming about his hug with Pato. He tells Jerónimo that he paid the loan shark with the money Ernesto lent him. Jerónimo advises Erasmo to forget about Pato. She is the daughter of the man who helped him and the girlfriend of his friend.
At the constructora, Pato comes looking for Luca but he is in a board meeting, you know, the ones that last 8 hours, according to Begoña. Pato puts on a poutier face than usual. She starts dissing Luca to the secretaries and complains about their couple problems. Of all the things that aggravate me about Pato, this ought to be top of the list: She loves washing her dirty laundry in public. Don’t tell your private business to every breathing being you encounter!
Erasmo gushes over Pato’s qualities and says that she is having problems in her relationship with her fiancé. “And so you've been thinking you can swoop in and steal her from Luca? What’s wrong with you?” asks Jerónimo. He urges his friend to get a grip. Erasmo doesn't say anything. He just sighs and gets back to work.
Estrella and Kiko visit Adrián in rehab. Estrella was dying to give him a hug and he was dreaming of hugging her every night. Kiko tells them to stop dreaming and just hug. They hug and share a kiss.
Sweet Virgencita de la Paz! Baxter has become the new Iker who used to be the new Triana. Ricardo is going through lackeys like nobody’s business. Baxter visits Ricardo at home. Ricardo pretends that he is embarrassed to ask Baxter for another favor that puts his job at risk, but he does it anyway. It’s for his children. Please, Baxter, get yourself fired for the sake of a screw-up who is nothing to you!
At Casa Guerrero, Esperanza and Ernesto drink tea. They pretty much advise Pedro to send Princess Confundida packing. Tee hee hee. That way, she can get confused all she wants away from civilized society.
Back at the MAPA School construction site, Viviana and Mario are lovey-dovey with each other. He tells her what happened with Salma and she tells him he has brought joy back to her life. He also informs her that their dinner date, scheduled for tonight, is cancelled, given the circumstances. They have another unfinished kiss, this time interrupted by Jerónimo, who fell into a hole because he was drooling over a picture of singer Gloria Trevi.
Back at the rehab clinic, Adrián feels that something is wrong with Estrella. Her eyes look sad. She pretends that she is sad because she misses him. He reassures that he’ll leave rehab soon as a brand-new klutz: Adrián, the turbo version. He promises that the two of them will share many wonderful moments together. They’ll travel together. Discover the sea. Give each other many hugs and kisses and be very happy. She’ll be waiting for him outside, right? he asks. Estrella remembers what Sansón has in mind for her and tearfully promises that she will wait for Adrián. She also tells him to remember that she will always love him, no matter what.
Viviana and Mario are still at the construction site. They inform one of the future recipients of the services of the MAPA School that Viviana is now part and parcel of the project.
Night falls over the city. At Casa Manzanares, Salma is fast asleep. Being rescued from a botched abortion really takes it out of you. Margarita and Mario wish her goodnight and are grateful that she is back home safe. Margarita prays her special Holy Cross prayer as Mario looks on.
At Casa Guerrero, Esperanza and Ernesto are drinking yet more tea. Esperanza praises Ernesto for his good behavior and says that she doesn’t want to hurt him. Ernesto is very hopeful that she won’t do it. All he aspires to is being her friend. Precisely for that reason, Esperanza doesn’t want to hurt him, because one doesn’t harm one’s friends. She loves Ricardo and thinks of him all the time. She vows to do her best to fight her illness but she can’t help having a recurring nightmare where she dies and has to say goodbye to her children and Ricardo. She believes that she will die loving Ricardo. Ernesto has that look a guy gets when he realizes that he is stuck in the Friendzone for all eternity.
At Casa Manzanares, Mario and Kristel are giving us a synopsis of their family situation and harping on about the importance of family, all this with a carton of Lala milk in front of them. Lala milk goes great with cherry pie and post-abortion interruption stress.
At Casa Alegría, Ricardo thinks back to his happier times with Esperanza and wonders why he can’t forget her yet. Because it’s only been a week or so since you broke up? He checks the camera feed from his kids’ bedroom and vows to have them back with him very soon.
The next morning, in the gardens of Instituto Palacios, Pato is moaning to Aranza that her fiancé is not at her beck and call every waking minute of every day. Anastasia sends her the infamous sex video on her cellphone and Pato goes berserk.
Esperanza and Ricardo have an awkward encounter outside Bárbara’s office. They greet each other coldly and exchange sad puppy looks. The secretary gives them forms to fill out and their hands touch as they reach for them. They thought-bubble how much they still love each other. Bárbara receives Esperanza first. Ricardo feels pretty bad and quite sad and maybe a little mad, so he tells the secretary that he’ll come back later. Esperanza asks Bárbara to grant her a leave of absence because she needs to avoid Ricardo for a while, now that their engagement is cancelled. Bárbara thinks this isn’t a very professional reason but she concedes. She grants Esperanza a two-weeks leave with pay (licencia con goce de sueldo), given Esperanza’s impeccable record. She hopes that by the time Esperanza comes back from her leave, Cristina Somethingez Somethingama will be working at the Palacios. OK, fine! We get it! Cristina is the Messiah of highschool education. This is getting really really old!
In the hallway, Ricardo checks with his new lackey about the “favor” he asked of him. Pamela tries to startle him with her Ágata the Ghost mask. She points out that he hasn’t been smiling much lately.
In the gardens, Pato is still losing her rag. She sends Luca an angry text message about the video she just received. Luca fires Anastasia and yells how much he hates her. However, Zero Dignity Anastasia is unfazed. She is still talking about getting back together with him. Delusion, thy name is Nacha!
Aranza advises Pato to calm down because she is helping Nacha achieve her goals.
Kristel and Pedro are in the school cafeteria, which has an outdoors section. Kristel is recounting Salma’s failed abortion story. She feels the need to put on her annoying sniveling face and her annoying sniveling voice to make her narration more engaging. She gets up to get a cup of tea and asks Pedro if he wants one. He says yes. When she comes back, he breaks up with her. Can you believe the cobblers on this guy? He makes the girl he is about to break up with buy him a hot beverage THEN he breaks up with her right after she hands him the drink. Man-bun eats a lot of spinach!
On her way out of Bárbara’s office, Esperanza and Ricardo bump into each other and do a little dance where their faces nearly touching. Ooh-la-la!
Back in the outdoors school cafeteria, the post-breakup supplication is in full swing. Kristel has turned the sniveling up several notches. Sorry guys, but I must fast-forward.
The very discreet Bárbara spills the beans about Esperanza’s leave of absence, and the reason for it, to Ricardo. “Esperanza wants time off to stay away from you”, explains Bárbara, after emphasizing the fact that she is a very ethical person.
Esperanza comforts Salma, the botched abortion survivor. Salma tells her she wishes she were her mom.
Ricardo offers his services to convince Cristina to join Instituto Palacios. Bárbara is so ecstatic to hear this and so eulogistic towards Cristina, it is frankly cringeworthy. Cristina is the only one who can save us and get us out of the hole! Yeah, right! This crapola has gone on too far! Cut it out, already!
At Ernesto’s pad, Ernesto wonders what happened to Kracy’s face. She replies that Ricardo beat her up. Ernesto doesn’t believe her. Ricardo would never do that. Kracy goes nuts and reproaches Ernesto for abandoning their joint plan to destroy Ricardo. As long as Ricardo is away from Esperanza, Ernesto has no interest in him whatsoever. Kracy threatens to expose the staged heroic act he performed at Pato’s birthday party. Ernesto reiterates his threat to kill her if she opens her mouth. He would not hesitate one bit to have her whacked if she continues being a nuisance.
At the oncologist’s office. Esperanza learns that her blood tests revealed that she’s anemic. As a result, she can’t have her surgery as promptly as anticipated. So, let me get this straight, the poor woman can’t have her stomach removed in order to then start an aggressive round of chemo, and all for a 20% chance to beat her stage 4 cancer. Here’s a thought, Osorio: Why don’t you just shoot her in the face and get it over with! Geez!
At prison, Silvana swears revenge on her family. Her one-eyed cellmate, La Tuerta, advises her to pretend that she is rehabilitated, that her time in prison made her rethink her ways and that she is prepared to get her family back. That way, Silvana will be more successful in implementing her revenge. Why does she need to take revenge on her family, in the first place? This is too stoopid and illogical for words.
Cristina receives in her house the guy she can’t stand and who she thinks pinched her bum, when she could’ve met up with him at Nueva Luz. Ricardo tells her that he’s going through a very tough time and that he was told she is experiencing the same. He believes that working will help get her mind off things. Instituto Palacios needs her to recover its prestige. He asks to use the bathroom but winds up opening the door of Abril’s room by mistake. Cristina sees him in her daughter’s room and becomes a tad agitated. She tells Ricardo to inform Bárbara that she will meet her at the Palacios on Monday and asks him to leave her house.
