I got so caught up in the cryptic scenes with Abdul and Ayutunde, trying to get them right, I hadn't considered Lorenza, but yes she is someone we know and has a gift, and Abdul is a bit of a shyster, I did wonder if he is using her.
I find fascinating the way these African's connect to their ancestors and integrate it into their religion, very real to me and very practical.
I think Victoria and Miguel will somehow work their way back into Eden, possibly before Nicolas returns, calming the waters before the real Marquesa arrives.
and although she has a long way to go I think Adela may be softening as well, Isabelita is full of surprises and I think is becoming the light of her life.

I often do Thursday recaps, but tonight is another NBA Finals game featuring the Golden State Warriors AND the US vs. Ecuador in Copa América soccer. I fully own being a sports fan, and these are two major deals for me. I'll probably be red-eyed at work tomorrow as I zoom through commercials so as to see both events in one evening.

Novelera, sometimes I'm able to step in if you're not able to do a recap, but I'm afraid that's not so this time. There were some severe thunderstorms in the area, and Telemundo kept repeatedly cutting off the sound track and replacing it with an alarm sound and announcements about which counties were affected and what to do. As a result, I missed a lot of what happened. Commitments tomorrow will prevent me from trying to watch the episode on the computer in the morning.

OK, in no order whatsoever, here are a few things that happened in tonight's episode.
Enrique comes to Eva's house to see Virginia. Virginia doesn't want to see him. Someone else--perhaps Adri--suggests that Enrique contact Pablo Contreras. Pablo is an excellent lawyer and may be able to help Enrique get a divorce. Enrique is delighted with the suggestion.
Andy, badly wounded, leaves where he was staying and stumbles down the street and into a cafe, where he hires someone to drive him to where Camila lives. When they arrive, he gets out of the car, falls onto the sidewalk, and yells for Camila to come out. The Furias hear him and try to persuade Camila not to go outside, but she insists. Several other people, including Eva and Adri, go with her. Camila goes to Andy, who has collapsed on the sidewalk, and she holds him. Eva calls for an ambulance and explains who it's for. The ambulance arrives to take him to the hospital. Camila insists on going with him, and Adri goes with her to support her. Andy's capture is, of course, broadcast on TV.
Luis comes to the hospital and has a jealous hissy fit because Adri is there. He assumes that she's there because she's concerned about Andy. Nothing she says changes his mind. Eventually, back home, Soraya talks sense to him, and he and Adri kiss and make up.
Pablo hears Marisol accuse Dra SweetFace of keeping Betty's deathbed letter instead of giving it to Eva, as Betty had asked. The doctora denies this, of course, and Pablo apparently believes her, at least in this episode. Later, SF tells Pablo that she's fed up with the fact that every time they have a quarrel, it involves Eva Soler.
Marlene has a nasty confrontation with Camila and Eva at the hospital. Later, she calls Rebeca and tells her that she has a plan to finally get rid of Eva Soler. Although she doesn't see Armando, he's standing within earshot.

Eva. Was Andy's original plan to kill Camila or get her help? We may never know, though he may have said something about vengeance when he picked up the gun. Marlene blames Eva for Andy's wounding and medical crisis? Of course she does! For the umpteenth time she swears vengeance. Ok. And the best she can do when Eva accuses her--in front of Fajardo--of killing Carmen and Sofia is to say there's no proof? Btw, I wonder how Rebeca got transfusion blood and whether she knew Andy's blood type. Just as well she didn't have a chance to use it. I liked Virginia's joyous reaction when Adri tells him to consult Pablo and Martin about getting a divorce. It should be really easy for them to get evidence of desertion. Imo, Luis acted like an unbelievable jerk in this episode. He would really believe that Adri was at the hospital for Andy and not to support Camila? Dumb! Soraya did a "reading" of Rey and decides he's all right, though a flirt--to his surprise and amusement. Where might that be leading? Possibly nowhere. Pablo and Ana are getting very boring.

part 1
Nicolas stops to rest, Julian gives Hilaria some water and food, she says he's a good man, not like Morales, and looks at Nicolas, he's the devil himself, he has evil in his bones, and has everyone fooled, but here, far away, he shows his true colors, he took all I had, and everything I knew, I'll never see my children again, they were my last hope, I don't want to live anymore, Julian pleads that she not die out here on the road, there is no telling what Nicolas would do.
Miguel searches for Victoria in the tunnels, sees the plaque on the wall with the map.
Eugenia came to see the Marquesa, Adela sends for her, but it seems she is not there, but went for a stroll, so Eugenia leaves, amused that Adela doesn't know where her daughter-in-law is, but stops by the barracks, asks for Miguel, hmm, he's not here either, had something to do at the house, and the guard asks her to leave, it's not safe here, surrounded by so many strong men, Eugenia mocks, and likes what she sees.
Eugenia knows the slaves are covering for Miguel and figures he's with the Marquesa, and neither Nicolas nor Adela have a clue, the Marquesa isn't like a real marquesa, and Miguel isn't just a slave, we are missing something here, she tells Bunme.
Adela thinks something is amiss, and goes to Reme who is praying for Victoria's safe return, but Reme repeats the same story, it will be dark soon, do you know how dangerous it is out their for a woman alone with out guards Adela says, and asks Reme again, but still no answer,
they stop at sunset to rest and Nicolas orders Julian to get some wood and Hilaria to make them something hot, but Hilaria is dead, Nicolas kicks her to be sure, he looks upset.
Victoria prays to her mother Lorenza, let your company and wisdom double my strength, I can't die.
and we see some new people on the road, a man and a woman by a stream, the woman is dizzy, he says be careful, she talks of the wind getting in and out her head.
Adela wants to know why she was not told the Marquesa was missing, Reme goes to answer but Adela knows she lies and asks Milagros, who says nothing, what will I tell Nicolas when he returns?
Miguel's torch has gone out but he is able to start a fire and relight it.
Isabel organizes a search for Victoria, Reme and Milagros worry that the guards will find evidence of Miguel at the pit, or worse the tunnels, they get Tomas to help.
Angela , Gabriel, Jesus, and and Manuela talk about the causa, but they need to talk to Miguel and the others, as Angela leaves, Manuela wants to know why she doesn't like her, because you are doing this for Gabriel, are you really willing to take the risk, just to impress a man?
Isabel thinks they should look at the shore and takes a group there.
in the dark tunnel, Victoria is getting delirious, starts saying "Alugimi".
as is the lady in the cart, who has been saying it for ten years since I pulled you out of the river, he says, and she doesn't even know what it means, maybe it's an African word from your people, and you can't remember because of the blow you took, she would not be alive, if not for him.

part 2
at last Miguel finds Victoria, she thinks it's her mother, he moves some rocks off her and gets her to help struggle and they free her, and all is well, or not, as the ceiling caves in some more and they can't go back.
Dr. Tarazona tells Ana her ribs will heal on their own but the rest will take time, you will need patience and as he leaves he addresses her as Felipes' wife, Ana says she is not, the doctor excuses himself and leaves as Ana prompts Felipe to explain, this is how rumors get started, and he explains he is not married and that she is just a dear friend.
but at the inn the doctor tells Manuela and Jesus, they recognize her as Francisco's wife and Manuela is curious but Jesus says it's none of their business.
there is no luck finding Victoria, Isabel looks at the watch around her neck, it's getting late, she decides they should return.
Tomas and Milagros go to the pit, he pulls up the rope, but how will they get out Milagros asks, by helping each other Tomas says, but Milagros worries that Miguel may be alone, and Tomas reminds her that Miguel said we should defend these tunnels with our lives, as he says the ancestors will protect them, he throws the rope in.
we find the new man's name is Abdul, as they ride into Santa Marta, she likes the town and can't wait to walk around, he reminds her that their trade needs her to remain a mystery, she can't appear as an ordinary person, they get two rooms at the inn, oh your not married Manuela asks, we are, one room to sleep in one for my wife's practice, she is a famous African seer, haven't you heard of Ayutunde, once you meet her you will never forget.
Julian has buried Hilaria, he says she didn't deserve the suffering that killed her, Nicolas tells him to be careful or he will end up like her, and stomps on the grave as he walks away.
night has come, the search parties return and there is no word on the Marquesa, Isabel thinks the worst and asks Adela if she hopes she's dead, Adela calls her stupid and explains that it's one thing to have differences with a person and another to wish them dead, but since your method didn't work they will now do things Adela's way, Adela, Isabel, and Reme will pray all night, Isabel thinks that will be boring.
Miguel and Victoria are in bad shape, their water is running out, each prompting the other to drink, Miguel says one of us must get out, Victoria says to get that idea out of his head because she's not leaving without him, and as they grow together in their desperation Miguel says, this tunnel will be their way to freedom and not to their graves.

Francisco dresses smartly in his uniform, he reflects on his whipping, as he grabs his gun and hat, his hands shake, as he remembers the branding, balls his hand into a fist and walks out the door.
Adela, Isabel, and Reme, still in their long dresses awake in Adela's room, still no word of Victoria, and Nicolas is expected to arrive.
as Miguel and Victoria lay in the dark tunnels we hear the wind and they see a bit of light from the new day, and they make their way to the opening on the shores of the ocean, we did it! they rejoice, but Miguel reminds them they must be far from Eden and they will be missed, how will we explain this, and we hear the backbone of all of Victoria's plans, "we'll think of something", as they run around in the sand...

Thanks, Juanita, for the mini-cap. You definitely got the highlights of a disappointing episode. It was all about the green-eyed monster, all the way through.
I also loved Virginia’s reaction to Enrique’s plan to seek out Pablo for a divorce. I know I’ve seen his unfaithful wife before and in almost an identical role, but I can’t remember where. I was afraid Virginia was going to go with the generally stupid behavior of our protagonists—give up the whole relationship because everything isn’t perfect.
And we got another middle school performance from our protagonists. The writers seem intent on stripping away our liking of Pablo Contreras. Classical jealous galán behavior upon seeing Rey and Eva kissing. But Eva could have left well enough alone. Instead she kissed him herself. And Pablo demonstrates severe symptoms of jealousy right in front of his new squeeze, Dra. SF. And later compounds it by apparently coming by for a booty call later.
Marisol was terrific, and at least Pablo got to hear her version of The Purloined Letter [apologies to Edgar Allan Poe].
The scene between Marlene and Eva was terrific by both actresses. BTW, was I the only one who wondered if Marlene was planning to disconnect the machinery or pull out the ever present villain hypodermic syringe to use on Andy. He knows where all the bodies are buried, literally.
Yep, they went all in on jealousy, including having the mostly adult these days Luis behave badly.
I LOVED it when Marlene was ready to hit Eva and Fajardo coldly told her he’d run her in right now if she did it. Eva pushed ALL her buttons.

Eva. Novelera: I too wondered if Marlene wasn't about to disconnect Andy's machinesm given the speculative look on her face as she approached him. Otoh, she has said more than once in the last couple of episodes that he's the only person she cares about. Yep, Pablo is now both middle-schoolish and antipático. Given Pablo's behavior, I'm not sure I blame Eva fornot leaving well enough alone, although, even though Rey seems like a good sport, it's not nice of her to lead him on.

So, I’m pretty sure the woman Abdul calls Ayutunde is Victoria and Milagros’ mother. I certainly wasn’t expecting THAT plot development. The assault on the Palenque was so long ago that I do not remember how they showed Lorenza dying. But it seems they’re going with blow-on-the-head amnesia. But she remembers the word that, I think, calls on the help of an African deity, and at the same time that Victoria, apparently close to dying from dehydration or lack of oxygen, not sure which, also says that word.
I think what Julián saw Nicolás do to Hilaria will move him to perhaps help La Causa. He gave him a very black look at the end of their scene over Hilaria’s grave. I noticed that Nicolás pointedly stepped on her grave on his way to his horse.
Boy, tonight is must-see TV! They completely surprised me. I expected Miguel to get her back to the house. I had thought something was going on with her legs being trapped or something, but she looked fine running out onto the beach. So I thought Victoria was going to make up a whopper and the story would go along with Victoria in that house trying to avoid sex with Nicolás.
I hope Manuela doesn’t prove too damaging to La Causa. She’s definitely a loose cannon.
I assume Eugenia’s plan is to blackmail Victoria with her half-knowledge of something between Miguel and her. I also assume she wants her to convince Nicolás to put up money for her cacao venture, since her apparently top notch sexual skills didn’t get what she wanted.

yep, I too thought Marlene might do in Andy, because her having a good thought is hard to fit in, I noticed the writer's aren't even going to touch on her ever being pregnant.
even Esteban got to do his little rant, showing all men are the same, er... different than women.

I got so caught up in the cryptic scenes with Abdul and Ayutunde, trying to get them right, I hadn't considered Lorenza, but yes she is someone we know and has a gift, and Abdul is a bit of a shyster, I did wonder if he is using her.
I find fascinating the way these African's connect to their ancestors and integrate it into their religion, very real to me and very practical.
I think Victoria and Miguel will somehow work their way back into Eden, possibly before Nicolas returns, calming the waters before the real Marquesa arrives.
and although she has a long way to go I think Adela may be softening as well, Isabelita is full of surprises and I think is becoming the light of her life.

I presume that either the writers have forgotten about it too (not surprising, given their occasional sloppiness) or some character or other will refer to it again. And, speaking of forgetting, I see that I neglected to thank Juanita for getting the conversation started and for seeing (along with novelera) that this episode has an overall theme--male jealousy.

Eva. Novelera: I'm kind of interested in seeing how they finish him off. I would have thought that what the underworld doctor said about septicemia because of not getting hospital care was some kind of foreshadowing, but now it looks as if he is getting hospital care--surgery, transfusions and antibiotic ivs. All that trouble--but he's such a bad guy that they must be planning some way to get rid of him.

I only have a Giants baseball game to watch tonight, and it could sit on the DVR until after Eva, so I'll put up a recap tonight, length depending on energy level.
To tell you the truth, I'm ready for basketball to be over. ¡Ya basta! I watched the Warriors win 73 games this season and it was big fun, but they appear to be less than a juggernaut in the post-season. And the whole dern thing is lasting too long and I need my life back! They could still win the whole shootin' match on Sunday, but I'm tired of waiting for them to get back to form.

I went back and watched the Palenque raid (chapter 4, first 2 segments)
Lorenza and Sara were with the children when they decided to go help the men, Joaquin (the General's oldest son) had clubbed Tomas to the ground with the butt of his pistol and was tying him up when it looked like Lorenza jumped on his back, but in the next scene she was on Francisco's back (they really look alike) and Joaquin pulled her off and slashed her cheek to her mouth with his sword, she kept on struggling so he gave her a bash to the head with his pistol butt, knocking her out, Tomas was laying nearby seeing her lay still.
later when they were cleaning things up, we see the soldiers carting the bodies (including Lorenza) down to a pile by the river.
and later Joaquin looks like he will rape Milagros when she slashes his hand with that knife covered with a poison Lorenza made and within seconds he is foaming at the mouth and dies.

Deb, thanks! If I remember correctly there was something odd about Lorenza's face in last night's episode. And she covered her face almost like a Muslim veil when she and Abdul checked into Jesús and Manuela's posada. Don't know if she did that to hide a scar or for modesty. I guess Abdul is a Muslim, although I suspect not a very good one! He looks like a charlatan to me.

We begin where we left off last night. But this time we hear the other sociopath’s (Rebeca's) side of the conversation. She tells Marlene she’d be delighted to get rid of Eva. Marlene swans upstairs but doesn’t see Armando, who was eavesdropping.
And, back to Pablo’s getting chewed out by Dra. SF. She calls him out for being immature and still obsessed with Eva. I feel like FF>> through this scene. The result is that Pablo talks his way back into her pants.
Some joggers on the beach find poor Marta’s corpse washed up there.
One of the non-criminal Mon-Sol employees shows Evencio the hidden compartments in the trucks that go back and forth to Mexico. They should have done this examination after dark because Gusano and Elsa, of course, see them doing it.
Fajardo, always the smartest guy in the room, tells another cop to do a DNA analysis comparing the body that was found with Marta’s DNA.
At the hospital Fajardo baits Marlene telling her that when Andy is better he’s going straight to jail and not passing GO.
Camila and Esteban aren’t having that smooth of a courtship. He kisses her and she gets mad. Finally she hints that maybe someday they’ll have something.
Rebeca brings his payment to the thug who’s still alive (one of the ones who killed Pancho). He apparently has a death wish because he finds her attractive.
Fajardo interrupts Marlene’s tender scene by the bedside of her rather creepily close brother. He lays it right out there. He reminds her about lying about knowing who Camila was. He has come to tell them they found the body of Marta Perozo. Marlene can’t quite keep it together. He says that Marta died stabbed by a very cruel and sick man (or maybe a woman). He goes on to say they found Marta’s blood in Andy’s apartment and that a witness saw Andy and Rebeca Marin, wanted for murder, moving a bag out of Andy’s apartment and putting it in the trunk of Marta’s car.
Enrique wants Martín and Pablo to spy on his ex and find her in a compromising position so he can get a divorce. [Please. CA is a no-fault state. She can’t prevent his getting a divorce]
Evencio comes to tell the guys at Agencias Contreras about the false-sided truck. Enrique is still there and agrees that he himself noted that about the trucks.
Armando shows up at Eva’s house to warn her about the threat he overheard. Eva just rags on him about what he himself did to her. He tries to get her to accept paid security. She returns to saying that he can protect her by telling the police about Marlene. She gets way up on her high horse. She tells him that what will happen will happen. But Yo tengo lo que tú no tienes; aquí los tengo muy buen puestos, eh! She makes a crotch grabbing gesture indicating what she has that he does not and throws him out.

Marlene has called Silva to come for some more shady legal work. It appears she wants him to keep Andy in the hospital instead of in the slammer. When he puts up some resistance, she gives him the gorgon face and a not-so-veiled threat. He’s scared and complies.
Dra SF, Pablo and Celeste are all working on Cecelia’s diaper rash.
Armando comes to Agencias Contreras asking them to help protect Eva. Pablo goes with the sarcastic guy we’re pretty fed up with right about now. But Martín intervenes, and he listens. After some more posturing, Pablo asks Armando to find out about Marlene’s plan. Pablo gets a call from Ana, and Armando smirks. “How quickly you recuperated from being a widower! What I’d say is that, at last, we are just the same.” Armando definitely gets the last word.
Rebeca and her admirer apparently take drugs out of a truck. He asks her if Marlene plans to sell it. “She’s going to put it back, right? So Marlenita thinks she can play games with the Cartel? If the capos ask me, I’ll tell them. She’s nuts if she thinks she can steal from the Cartel.”
Marlene and Armando talk about Andy. Armando gets off a good one: De la calaca quizás la libró pero del bote lo dudo. [He may escape death, but I doubt he’ll evade going to jail.]
Rebeca calls Marlene and tells her they hid the truck with the cargo. They took out the packages they’ll use tonight and all is well. Marlene: “Eva, tonight is your last night free.” [I presume they plan to plant some drugs in either Eva’s garage office or in one of her trucks.]
Armando comes to talk with one of the honest drivers who tells him some of the trucks are on their way to Mexico, but others are in the shop with mechanics the rest of them don’t know. He tells him to ask his wife about it.
Martín has gone to see an old friend, the chief of police, about what’s going on at Mon-Sol with the drugs. He says he’ll be watching them like a hawk.
Martín comes to smooth the ground so that Eva will listen to what Pablo has to say. After he tells her about what Armando said, Eva tells Pablo that maybe this is Armando trying to trap her. Pablo then tells her about Mon-Sol being involved in transporting drugs. She’s shocked, to say the least.

La Esclava Blanca – Friday, June 17 – Capítulo 42/61, part 1/3
Alonso visits Eugenia to ask about the money she supposedly has for the investment. She claims she sold some of her dead husband’s property in Haiti and she’ll have it in two days, but the look on her face after Alonso leaves doesn’t seem convincing.
A guard notices that Miguel is missing. Tomas says he is in the house, to which Enith asks out loud Toda la noche (all night long)? Remedios is there to back up the story and sends the guard away.
Manuela delivers breakfast to the conman and Lorenza. He tells Lorenza to put on the veil first. Manuela asks for a consultation with Lorenza, and her husband agrees in exchange for 2 free nights at the inn. After Manuela leaves, he is all giddy about how much money they are going to make in this town. He leaves to find more customers/people to swindle.
Francisco arrives at the inn, trying to be all charming with Manuela. He kisses her hand and says he’s doing an averiguación (investigation/inquiry) and slides a bag of money across the table. He knocks on Felipe’s door and waltzes in, knowing that Ana is there. He busts into her room, acting like he misses her but also telling her that she’s making un espectaculo lamentable (a pitiful spectacle) and importunando (bothering) Felipe. She finally looks at him and stands firm: yo no voy a ir a ninguna parte contigo, much menos con un asesino (I’m not going anywhere with you, much less with a murderer).
He grabs her, and Felipe grabs him, which causes him a lot of pain, so he stops and says he’ll come back to get her, sinvergüenza (shameless). Felipe is having none of that though, calling him the sinvergüenza since he beat the woman he was supposed to protect. Felipe keeps on him as Francisco walks out but then Francisco points his gun at Felipe, threatening to kill him. Luckily Paca had gone to get the General and they arrive at that moment. He is not happy that Francisco is making such a public scandal and makes him leave. Paca gets in the last words: Recuerde su marca (remember your brand).
The General tells Francisco that he is not en completo uso de tus facultades mentales (in complete use of your mental faculties), and if he continues to act this way... Francisco cuts him off: Renuncio (I quit). The General can’t believe it. They argue about honor. Francisco calls him useless. The General suspends him indefinitely and threatens to throw him in jail if he enters anyone’s house again without their permission. Francisco is pretty smug, acting like the General doesn’t even know what side he’s on. Laws, justice and truth, the General says. Francisco scoffs. Las leyes, la justicia, y la verdad siempre van a depender de los que tengan el poder en este pais. No sea iluso. (Laws, justice, and the truth will always depend on those who have power in this country. Don’t be naïve).
Isabel and Adela report the Marquesa’s disappearance to the General. He’s annoyed they didn’t tell him sooner.
Miguel grabs Bunme when she goes outside; she brings Miguel and Victoria (both covered in dirt and holding hands) in to talk to Eugenia. Victoria knows she helped with Isaias and she needs her help again. This time Eugenia wants something in exchange: she won’t tell Nicolas about their relationship if they steal the first load of cacao that he was going to export. Victoria is a bit incredulous. Por qué el aspaviento, querida? (Why the fuss, dear?) asks Eugenia. Stealing from him is not as bad as being unfaithful to him with one of his slaves. Aunque no te culpa, Lucia (although I don’t blame you, Lucia), Eugenia says looking at Miguel. Victoria is getting angry because she thought she could trust Eugenia. On the contrary, yo los apoyo. No hay nada más delicioso que los romances prohibidos. (I support you. There is nothing more delicious than forbidden romances), Eugenia remarks as she looks up at Bunme. But business is business. She’ll give them a moment to think it over.

Isabel and Adela report the Marquesa’s disappearance to the General. He’s annoyed they didn’t tell him sooner.
Miguel grabs Bunme when she goes outside; she brings Miguel and Victoria (both covered in dirt and holding hands) in to talk to Eugenia. Victoria knows she helped with Isaias and she needs her help again. This time Eugenia wants something in exchange: she won’t tell Nicolas about their relationship if they steal the first load of cacao that he was going to export. Victoria is a bit incredulous. Por qué el aspaviento, querida? (Why the fuss, dear?) asks Eugenia. Stealing from him is not as bad as being unfaithful to him with one of his slaves. Aunque no te culpa, Lucia (although I don’t blame you, Lucia), Eugenia says looking at Miguel. Victoria is getting angry because she thought she could trust Eugenia. On the contrary, yo los apoyo. No hay nada más delicioso que los romances prohibidos. (I support you. There is nothing more delicious than forbidden romances), Eugenia remarks as she looks up at Bunme. But business is business. She’ll give them a moment to think it over.
La Esclava Blanca – Friday, June 17 – Capítulo 42/61, part 2/3
Milagros is crying, thinking that Victoria and Miguel could be trapped in the tunnels and she’ll never see them again. Reme sets her straight though, if Victoria could survive the nuns in that convent, she can survive anything.
Victoria feels stupid for thinking that Eugenia would help them without strings attached. They’re going to lose the money for the boat, and what’s the point of the plan if they have no way of transporting everyone? The money from the cacao shipment was supposed to be for the causa. Miguel tells her not to worry, they will figure something out and they need to focus on getting back to El Eden right now.
The General orders his men to start looking for the Marquesa. He informs Alonso what’s happening. Alonso asks where Nicolas is. The General doesn’t know.
Julian offers to share his water with Nicolas. Nicolas drinks it all. He orders Julian to not tell anyone what happened with Hilaria, not even Adela.
Bunme warns Eugenia that Nicolas could arrive home at any minute and discover what’s happened. Eugenia asks if she noticed that Victoria and Miguel are really in love. It’s the first time she’s seen that. Bunme thinks it’s a doomed love. Y eso no te da lastima? (Doesn’t that make you feel pity?) Eugenia asks. Victoria agrees to the plan, but they will do it their way.
Lorenza asks Manuela if she’s seen her husband since he hasn’t returned yet. No, she hasn’t. Gabriel asks who that strange woman was. Ayutunde, an African fortune-teller. Her husband, Abdul, is in a pub, talking up his wife who can see the future, talk to dead people, protect them against curses, etc.
Miguel has changed into clean clothes. He and Victoria take forever saying goodbye, but Eugenia likes the adrenaline rush. Miguel needs to get back to El Eden before Nicolas.
Tomas, Milagros, Trinidad and Reme try to figure out what to do. Reme has an idea. She orders the guards (since Nicolas, the Marquesa, and Adela are all gone) to do their work as normal while Tomas, Miguel, Milagros and Trinidad will be searching for the Marquesa.
Isabel wants to wait outside while Adela is in the church. Adela blames the bad things happening on Isabel and her loss of spirituality. She makes Isabel wait in a pew while she’s in confession. She confesses to having pensamientos pecaminosos (sinful thoughts) about the Marquesa and not wanting her to come back home. She doesn’t want that woman for her son. She knows the Marquesa is hiding something. [We see Eugenia helping Victoria in the bath.] She also confesses that she wrote to the convent in Spain and she’s afraid Nicolas will be angry at her for it. The Padre yells qué hiciste qué? (you did what?) and walks out of the booth.
The real Marquesa is on a ship heading to the Americas with the nun from the convent. The nun is throwing up, complaining about the trip and America. Still a month and a half to go before they arrive. The Marquesa can’t stand the hedor (stench) in the room and leaves.
Adela sees that Isabel has left the church. Isabel shows up at the inn, asking if Gabriel is there. No, Manuela answers quickly, with Jesus saying yes right after. Jesus remarks that she is not acting like his sister, but more like una bruja (a witch/hag).
Isabel finds Gabriel playing his drum and listens to him standing in the doorway. She asks for forgiveness for the way she acted the last time they saw each other. No hay nada que perdonar (There’s nothing to forgive). She asks him to sing more.

Adela is desperate trying to find Isabel in Santa Marta. The Padre is following, trying to talk some sense in her. Nicolas is out, Lucia is lost, Isabel took off, Hilaria was taken away from her. The Padre will help her look for Isabel. No voy a poder más (I can’t take it anymore), Adela seems defeated.
Isabel has told Gabriel all about the Marquesa. She wonders if she didn’t just escape since she didn’t actually love Nicolas. She doesn’t blame her. Algunas veces, yo he querido hacer lo mismo (sometimes I wanted to do the same). She wanted to escape to study, she wants to become a doctor. Gabriel breaks it to her that no school would admit a woman. Tú tambien me quieres cortar las alas? (You also want to clip my wings?) No, he would never do that. He invites her to eat something.
Isabel loves the food. Manuela acts all sweet and says she’ll give her the recipe. Manuela asks if Isabel is alone, and she says no, abuela is at the church and I went for a walk like an independent woman. Isabel sees Lorenza and wonders who she is. When she finds out she’s an adivina (seer), she jumps up and wants to ask her where the Marquesa is.
Abdul tells Lorenza they will have many customers soon. Lorenza can tell he’s been drinking. Isabel knocks on the door. He asks her to wait a bit while Lorenza gets ready.
Nicolas and Julian arrive back at El Eden. Remedios lets Nicolas know that his wife has disappeared and everyone is looking for her. Bunme arrives just then and announces that the Marquesa is at Eugenia’s and has been there since the day before. She believed the rumors about Nicolas and Eugenia’s affair and went to confront Eugenia on her own. Nicolas keeps denying it in front of Remedios. Bunme convinces him to go to Eugenia’s since she was not able to control his wife’s jealousy. This gets a smile out of Remedios behind Nicolas’ back.
Abdul lets Isabel, and only Isabel, in. He asks Gabriel who she is and he lets him know she’s the daughter of one of the most powerful landowners.
Miguel is hiding in a cart and gets Milagros’ attention when she walks by. She tells him where to go to meet up with Trinidad.
Manuela runs into Adela outside the church and invites her to the restaurant, casually mentioning that Isabel is there and she seems to like the food.
Isabel asks Lorenza how it all works. She used to have a slave who knew how to read... Lorenza cuts her off; think of one question while holding the shells. Sometimes one question can have many answers.
Victoria is worried that Nicolas hasn’t returned yet or didn’t believe what Bunme told him. Eugenia tells her to calm down, doesn’t she realize the type of person he is and how easy it is to manipulate him. Le encanta que las mujeres se lo peleen (He loves when women fight over him) and he is puro ego (pure ego). Eugenia offers her a drink, but she declines. She doesn’t want anything from her. She thought she was her friend. She doesn’t hate her though, because that feeling made her make bad decisions and all she wants is for Miguel to be fine. Victoria continues that Eugenia has no idea about the situation that she put her in when she asked her to steal the cacao shipment. Eugenia asks her to explain, but Victoria won’t.
Eugenia wants to know when Victoria fell for Miguel. Victoria accuses her of only being interested in pasiones fugaces (fleeting passion) and that’s why she doesn’t understand anything. She repeats that she doesn’t hate her, but she does feel sorry for her. Eugenia looks insulted.

Esclava: Thank you. Lord, this is getting complicated and my anxiety is mounting. Uff, Eugenia is having fun but I do not if I trust her just yet. Lorenza is alive but I wonder if she will regain her memory. Isabel was maybe too young to remember her plus the veil.

Victoria's plans are always so full of holes, did she tell Miguel that Reme must have come up with some kind of cover, just sneak in there and find out, and of course he is wearing the brightest red shirt.
Julian's trip with Nicolas has sure put a heavy weight on him, but loved how Nicolas arrived home to an empty house and chaos.

Marlene often moves, in my opinion, that way when she thinks she has either scored or is on the verge of scoring a victory.

Eva. Excellent recap, novelera! I especially liked "creepily close brother," "she gets way up on her high horse," and "Pablo goes with the sarcastic guy we're pretty fed up with." Maybe Martin and Pablo can keep Enrique from ever having to pay any alimony? And finally! Etapa culminante! Interesting that although Marlene thinks that she's so untouchable that she can frame Eva, it's evident from Martin's conversation with the chief that the police are already on to Marlene's activities as a drug trafficker and are just waiting for some more evidence to swoop in. Her sense of entitlement never dies! And really, after one failed framing attempt of Eva anyone's going to believe a second one?

Why does Abdul care so much about anyone seeing Lorenza's scar? The attack on the Palenque was probably 10 years ago. They mentioned his having pulled her from the river. Does he know she was one of the slaves in the Palenque and fears someone claiming her and depriving him of his meal ticket? Does he think a seer should not have a scar?
I'm also a bit confused about Eugenia's plan. Alonso wants money and in two days. She might have the cacao, but does she expect to have it stolen and sold in two days? And then give the money to Alonso? I don't think she can give Nicolás' cacao to Alonso without revealing herself as a thief.

Novelera, add me to those who loved "Marlene swans upstairs." And I chuckled over "Dra SF, Pablo and Celeste are all working on Cecelia’s diaper rash." I'm also grateful for your including and translating "De la calaca quizás la libró pero del bote lo dudo." Question: how did the police happen to have Marta's DNA on file so they could compare it with DNA from the recently discovered corpse?
I also enjoyed your comments, novelera, about Thursday's episode. Loved "The Purloined Letter [apologies to Edgar Allan Poe]." And yes, I too thought Marlene might do in Andy when she was alone with him in his hospital room.
