Yago, #27, Wednesday 6/29/16: The Bad Penny

Hi everybody. I was at Best Buy tonight, and I saw Lucio's new smart TV. Or should I say, his ex-TV.

Fidel's having a flashback. A young man is making a quick buck challenging people to a shell game in the park. A young Fidel watches for a while and decides to play. Naturally, he loses. The next customer, a young Camilo, also loses, but does not accept his loss as gracefully as Fidel did. He pulls a knife on the cheater. Fidel comes forward and asks for the honor of the first punch. They smack the guy up, take his money, and run off. Camilo thanks Fidel for his help, and a forevermore friendship is born. Oh and they both have lucky coins. Watch those coins!

In the present, Fidel fingers a coin and tells Yago that his best friend became his worst enemy. That man was Camilo Michell. (Fidel cuts Raul's corpse loose from the chair.) "You have your own revenge to complete," Yago acknowledges. "It's time to begin," Fidel says, stuffing the coin into the dead man's pocket.

In the casino parking lot, Yago thanks Fidel for telling him the truth, and asks if it's the whole truth. How much does Camilo know about Yago? Fidel doesn't think Camilo knows anything - else it would have been Yago with his throat split in two. Camilo's just really paranoid and he checks out anyone who hangs around his daughter. Fidel didn't think he'd take such precautions for someone Julia had met through Ambar, but obviously he miscalculated.

Fidel flashes back again to a memory of himself and Camilo, again as young men, winning a bundle in some casino and being accused of counting cards. Later, they look at a vacant lot and hatch a plan to build a casino of their own, which they will call the Paraiso.

In the present, Fidel dumps Raul's body out the back of the car, right in front of a group of casino employees who have stepped outside on break (but aren't close enough to see Fidel and Yago clearly), and drives away. Doesn't this place have security cameras? I guess it doesn't matter, if he was using a stolen car, which seems a reasonable precaution when transporting an illicit corpse.

In between ragged gasps, Abel chews Teo out for saving his life. Abel was trying to make the bravest move of his life, and Teo stopped him! Teo says fine, do what you like, but then you won't have a chance to get back at Lucio and Sara for how they tricked you into killing Lorenzo's father. Anyway, Teo's still upset about killing Lorenzo. Abel demands his housekeys back (so Teo can't save his life again), but then lets Teo have the key to his cottage so he can get away for a couple of days.

Lucio, looking a little better than he did in the previous episode when he was unkempt and yelling in the street, goes to Jonas and says, "I lost everything." Without missing a beat, Jonas says no, you still have a family here. They hug.

Alone in Yago's kitchen, Sara holds a cool washcloth to her face and recalls Lucio's slap. She swears revenge. (By the end of this story, everyone will have had a vendetta, even little Mati.)

Abel checks his voicemail and finds a message from Damian: "I know we're enemies and that won't change, but right now I've got something more important. We have an enemy in common who will ruin us if we don't act."

Alejandra has drunk a LOT of coffee and is acting crazed. She's been trying to get into Damian's hard drive, with no luck. Bruno says he cares more about her than this investigation. "Why?" she asks. "Because I love you." (Everybody, act surprised!)

Camilo and Tomas Vargas are in what looks like an abandoned hotel, where Raul's body has been relocated. Camilo tells Tom to check Raul's pockets. There's that coin, turned up like a bad penny. "Fidel has returned," Camilo announces.

Yet another flashback. Camilo and Fidel are opponents in a high-stakes poker game at their very own casino, the Paraiso, where no one can ever accuse them of cheating. Selma, the singer on the stage, catches their eyes. "If beauty were a sin, this woman would be the first one in hell," Fidel sighs. Camilo taps Fidel's ring and reminds him that he's married. Camilo chats up the new singer (brand new - it's her first singing job) and gives her his lucky coin.

Julia finds her father looking at the coin in his study. He tells Julia it was her mother's lucky coin. He says he's kept it in a safe all these years. Spinning the coin reminds him of Julia's mother. Julia doesn't remember her mother.

Camilo also says he's having the New York penthouse remodeled to her liking, and the jet is ready so she can go whenever she wants to. Like, today. She knows he has an enemy, and she doesn't want to go until he tells her who it is. She's not even convinced that there really is an enemy.

Again with the flashbacks, Selma is singing at the club, and Camilo is watching with Fidel and Mrs. Fidel. Camilo is going to ask Selma to marry him.

In the present, and on the other side of town, Melina comes home to a yummy-smelling house and asks who's cooking, Bruno or Jonas? Surprise! It's Lucio! She's not happy to have him in her home. "Why not? Did Sara tell you something to turn you against me?" Melina hesitates, then says she doesn't owe him an explanation. Both Lucio and Jonas are taken aback by her attitude.

Alejandra has finally gotten into Damian's hard drive and finds three folders at the top level: Images, Documents, and Lucio.Sara.Abel. Hmmmm. Bruno gets a call from Dad and has to go home.

Selma and Katia are scrubbing away at the bloodstains when Katia begins to cry. She says it was all her fault and her mother hates her. Selma tries to cheer her up and says that Katia is stronger than her addiction.

Abel, still coughing with a bruised trachea, visits Dam in the hospital. Dam says he found out who was behind the sudden appearance of the video from the casino. It was not Sara and Lucio, as they previously suspected. It was a journalism student. He's concerned about her because of "the company she keeps." He hands Abel a printed copy of the ID that Bruno presented when he claimed Damian's stuff, and explains that this is Omar's brother.

Melina tells Bruno she's angry with Jonas for letting Lucio stay at the house without consulting her first. Lucio is hanging out in a bedroom, remembering old times, and tries to take an old bubblegum sticker from his childhood off of a mirror but isn't able to. Bruno comes in and apologizes. I think the deal is that Lucio can maybe stay with them for a while, but not tonight; they need to convince Melina.

Yago and Fidel are in a storage room with lots of innocent-looking boxes that are full of weapons? Fidel says he no longer has an image to protect, so he can fight dirty. And now Yago is part of that war.

Flashback: It's Camilo's wedding day, but when the car arrives to take Selma to the church, the driver is Fidel. He wants to marry her himself. (Apparently, they've already had a thing.) He's divorcing Raquel. Selma refuses. Fidel watches the ceremony with a breaking heart. Now it's time for Selma to say "I do" - but what she actually says is, "I'm sorry, I can't marry you." She looks at Fidel. Camilo immediately realizes what this means. He pulls a gun on Fidel, shouting, "you think I didn't realize?" but Selma pushes his arm before he can aim properly. Fidel fires back at him and gets one of the groomsmen instead. Fidel takes off with Selma.

Lucio goes to Abel's and asks to stay for a night or two. Abel is sarcastic and not feeling very hospitable. He tells Lucio about Alejandra. "You take care of it," Lucio says. "You're the expert." Abel agrees to it, but not without making a little noise to signify that he's the one who always takes care of things. He also imposes the condition that - did I get this right? - Lucio has to get his friend in the government to name one of the orphans after Lorenzo Castillo. Lucio doesn't like it, but he can't offer Abel anything else.

Alejandra decrypts the video files, and finally sees the REAL video of Abel shooting the guard. She is deeply upset.

Yago and Fidel have transported all those boxes full of contraband back to the theater. Yago asks for the final piece of the puzzle: what happened to their kids?

Flashback! One of the boys is playing ball, and a gangster comes right up to him and shoots him in the chest. His brother sees his body on the ground, looks up, and the gangster blows him away too. Then Camilo comes along and puts a coin in the dead boy's pocket. Then we see part of a flashback we've seen before - when Camilo's men steal their daughter Fabiana right out of their car.

Fidel remembers identifying his two sons at the morgue and finding the coin among their effects.

According to Fidel's telling of the story, however, Fabiana was killed too. I don't know if this is what he really believes (else why would he have been willing to kill her), or if he knows or suspects that it's not true (and in fact I don't think we know enough to be sure one way or another), but Selma is upset enough by the story that she runs out of the room in tears.

Fidel apologizes to Yago for bringing him into this revenge and not telling him sooner. Yago says he owes everything to Fidel and will help him put an end to Camilo. "But why did you choose me?" Yago asks.

Fidel explains that he saw potential in Yago.

Alejandra phones Bruno and says "this is very serious and huge, don't go near Lucio. We'll meet in our secret place." But Abel is waiting on her doorstep. They go bye-bye in the car. He says he doesn't want her dead. He wants her alive, to tell him what she knows.

Sara approaches Yago. Ambar is out, and Mati is asleep. She sadly says she wants Lucio to rot in prison. Yago notices the bruise on her cheek.

Alejandra hands Abel the hard drive (or A hard drive... perhaps a decoy) and says she found key evidence that Lucio "and some other guy" robbed the casino, not Omar.

Bruno is at Alejandra's apartment, leaving a message on her voicemail, thinking about what she told him about Lucio.

Well, it doesn't look good for Alejandra. It looks like she's lying on the ground with her eyes closed, and maybe I see blood on her sweater, or maybe she's just a sloppy eater. Any chance Abel bought her some barbecue ribs and then she took a nap?

Thank you Julie.

So much for me liking Abel.

Julie, looking forward to your recap.

What are the chances that Abel has finally learned a life lesson and that what we saw at the end was faked for Damian's benefit? I sure hope so.

Niecie, lol, that never occurred to me. That sounds like something he would do, I hope you're right.

Agree cathyx. One minute he is ready to kill himself. Next he shoots Ale. He knows Lucio tried to set him up, he knows Sara is betraying Ambar and he shoots her to cover himself and them? Just doesn't make sense to me.

So Camillo kills Fidel's children bec he stole Selma from him. Now we know Julia is Selma and Fidel's daughter. I don't have sympathy for Fidel or Selma. The way Fidel killed Raul.....Selma justifying it.....these are soulless people. I was disappointed that Yago seemed to think Fidel's actions are/were justified.

Poor Bruno. How does he recover?

Melina needs to start acting smarter. I understand her feelings but she is putting all of them in danger. Plus she seems like a lunatic to Jonas and Bruno.

Gosh Niecie I hope you are right!

And Julia looks so much like Selma in the flashbacks, good job casting. I'm glad we finally know the back story of Camilo and Fidel.

So the main reason they had a falling out was because Fidel took Selma from him. That's an insane amount of jealousy for the revenge he took out on Fidel.

I am watching now. I am so bad with these flashback scenes. Any time they use a different actor to play a younger version of a character we already know (except for Omar), I am totally confused. These two people are Camilo and Fidel, right? Which one is which? Argh!

Never mind - I got it.

Camilo is the better looking one, and he's the actor who played the blind guy in Hotel de los Secretos.

Yeah, what threw me off is that Young Camilo is good looking, while Old Camilo looks... let's just say his face is a little different. :)

I don't think Young Fidel is an accurate likeness either, but at least the nose is right.

All done. I re-titled the recap. As usual, the one I came up with beforehand didn't really fit.

I was fiddling with some new technology again tonight. I should be able to get the remaining recaps done at a more reasonable time in the future.

It's not looking good for Alejandra, though. Here's hoping she made a copy of Damian's stuff and left it at home.

Couldn't resist reading now. Thanks so much, Julie. Ok, they let us down by letting Lorenzo die. They can't do that with Ale. I am begging for a coma at the very worst. You hear me, writers!

I know it had to hurt being dumped by Selma for Fidel. But damn Camilo, killing kids is overkill for getting your feelings hurt!

There was a third body in the morgue, but it was completely wrapped up. Perhaps Camilo paid off the medical examiner to lie and say that the body was burned beyond recognition or something?

More tomorrow after sleep.

I wonder if there is a chance Julia actually could be Camilo's daughter (or that Camilo thinks Julia actually is his daughter)...perhaps Selma was with Fidel and Camilo around the same time. Julia/Fabiana may actually be Fidel's daughter but perhaps Camilo really think she's his.

Sounds like Fidel took Omar under his wing because Omar=Fidel and Lucio=Camilo.

These are life & death times. Camilo went around killing kids because he was butthurt and forcing people to kill their friends and jump off roofs. This is a very bad dude. Raul wasn't getting Katia high so they could play patty cake. He was getting Katia high to pump info out of her on Yago, which could be lethal to Yago & the people around him.

What I want to know is how did Fidel lose Casino Paraiso and how did he end up in jail.

I think Julia is Fidel's daughter with Selma. But Camilo couldn't bring himself to kill her because she was Selma's. And he still loved her the way Omar still loves Sara. But Anon207 could also be right. Either theory could work.

Thank you Julie so much.

All these people are thugs and I'm not gonna worry my pretty little head over one of them feeling bad, therefore redeemable. I include Yago, who may have been a good boy once but he fell for a thug, got his lunch money taken, so teamed with thugs to get it back so he can lose it again to the same thug.

You have a few innocents that are caught up in this, Ambar, Matis, Melina, but only two good guys. Two in the whole show. Bruno and Alejandra are searching for truth, everyone else bends the facts to create their own justification for horrible things.

I'm guessing that like Lucio, Camilo had a DNA test done on Julia long ago and knows one way or another if he or Fidel is her father. But like Lucio, it didn't change his ability to love and care for her. As bad as all these people are, notice we have no typical toxic parents among them. Lucio and Sara had the worst parental situation, but even Ambar was shielded from what her father really is. Katia's mom didn't even seem like a bad person, just a mom at the end of her rope with an addict daughter.

Wish Selma and Katia would leave this silly revenge to the boys, and go off to a beach spa with each other for some rest, detox, relaxation and meditation. When they get back, all these fools will have killed each other off.

Julie, you are so right that by the end everyone will have a vendetta. That's one of the things about revenge-- It spreads like a virus and doesn't stop until it's wiped out everyone in its path.

The Count's recap is already up! That was quick!!

Yes, Vivi, the parents in this TN are a nice change from the ones in Hotel who were constantly manipulating and maneuvering, presumably on their children's behalf "for their own good" but really for the parents' own convenience. Even Angela did things "for Andres" that worked out better for her than they did for him.

So today Hulu has the next episode posted much earlier. I wonder what's going on.

Thanks, Julie. Terrific recap.

Yep, I too think Camilo knowingly loved and raised Fidel's daughter as Lucio does with Mati.

Jonas is a saint. He puts up with all Melina's inexplicable behavior. So awkward when she didn't want Lucio to stay.

Fidel and Camilo, two sides of the same coin. But I suppose Camilo is worse for killing innocent children. At least Fidel was going to kill someone who was at least 18 years old. Ugh, both deserve to suffer.

I can get with Selma taking both men's breath away, but to me Fidel's first wife was a beauty.

Niecie-Yeah, Rebecca was a looker too. But I guess there was just something about Selma. She and Fidel have stood the test of time (and grief and incarceration), so I guess they were meant for each other.
