Eva

My granddaughters were busy between 8 PM and 9 PM, so I got to watch tonight's episode. Since novelera said she can't do a recap tonight, I'll try to put up a quick one later.

EVA LA TRAILERA - JUEVES - Parte 1 de 2

Pablo and Evencio come to see The Only Judge in Los Angeles. Evencio asks the judge to authorize an autopsy on his wife, Carmen. The judge says there's no reason to do an autopsy on a natural death. Evencio tells the judge he's sure his wife was murdered. Pablo adds that he's sure that investigating Carmen Soler's death will lead to other homicides and to links to drug traffickers. OK, says the judge. Bring me the petition. Here it is, says Pablo, and hands it to the judge.

Eva is again at Pablo's enjoying being with Cecilia when Pablo is not there. Martin and Diego enter. "You have my little sister," says Diego. " Have you washed your hands?" Diego goes off to wash his hands, and Martin asks Eva about her annoyance with Pablo. Eva assures Martin that she's not annoyed, she has nothing against Pablo, indeed, she loves him, but she doesn't want new wounds.

In a continuation from the last episode, Enrique almost sees Virginia in her bridal gown. All the women try to hide her, since his seeing her in her gown before the wedding will bring bad luck.

Martin tells Pablo that if Eva weren't interested in him, she wouldn't be coming so often to see Cecilia. Pablo should get his act together/get moving (ponerse las pilas).

Marlene tells Rebeca to cover Elsa's body with branches and leaves. By the time the police discover the body, we'll be far away. Rebeca also tells her that there will be a wedding at what used to be Marlene's house the next day. Virginia is getting married, or thinks she is. Rebeca plans to kill her. Marlene tells her she can do what she wants, but her most important task is to kill Eva.

Pablo is holding Cecilia in the middle of the night. He asks her whether he should continue fighting for Eva, and whether she (Cecilia) would like to have Eva as her mamá, yes or no. Cecilia makes some baby noise. I'll take that as a yes, says Pablo.

Marlene is in what may be The Only Bar in Los Angeles. She asks for champagne to celebrate a triumph over her enemies. She doesn't notice that Armando is present.

Marlene comes to see the Monteverdes. She has apparently asked them to go somewhere. Cinthia doesn't want to go. "Look at my hair, my nails. I had to paint my nails myself for the first time in my life." Robert tells Marlene flat out that he doesn't want to go. Marlene shrugs her shoulders. Well, I was going to give you two thousand dollars, but.... Oops, we changed our minds.

Rebeca is getting everything ready, especially her enormous rifle. "Are you ready, Andy?" she asks. No answer. Where is Andy?

Pardo tells Fajardo that Florentino has awakened.

Everyone is arriving at Eva's house for Virginia's wedding. To Eva's surprise, Armando walks in, dressed very casually. He claims he has come to see Fabiola and didn't know there would be a wedding. "Do you mind if I stay?" he asks.

Rebeca arrives at the site of the wedding. She is dressed in exactly the same outfit as all the wedding servers, so she's able to blend right in. She stations herself inside what may be the pool house, takes out her rifle, stands by a window looking out on the wedding, and starts to aim.

EVA LA TRAILERA - JUEVES - Parte 2 de 2

Armando seeks out Evencio at the wedding. He tells Evencio that he saw Marlene in a bar and she was very happy. She's clearly up to no good.

Andy, dressed in a white hoodie, enters an apartment (the one he used to have?). He finds his backpack, then goes to the safe, puts in the password, and sees piles of money.

Rebeca takes aim, probably at Eva. However, Armando has quietly snuck up in back of Rebeca and seizes the rifle. He foolishly turns his back to put the rifle down. Rebeca grabs a pistol she had in her bag and, when he turns to face her, she shoots him in the stomach. Everyone at the wedding hears the shot. Adri rushes into the house and sees her father lying on the floor. Camila comes in right after her and catches a glimpse of Rebeca fleeing. Rebeca gets away. Pablo calls for an ambulance. Eva goes with Armando to the hospital.

Andy is about to leave the apartment when in walks Marlene and Cinthia. Marlene accuses Andy of trying to rob her. He claims he's taking his money. Marlene draws her pistol and points it at Andy. "You've manipulated me all my life, as if I were a puppet," Andy tells her. "I spent years in prison for you. Go ahead, shoot me." "I can't," says Marlene. She promises him that their lives will change, and that the money will be safe with her, and he'll have all the money he wants. And as soon as they get to Mexico, they can go their separate ways. But first, she has to make sure Eva dies.

Fajardo comes to see Florentino. The thug claims he knows nothing, he knows Marlene only as the owner of Mon-Sol. Fajardo tells him that it was his dear Rebeca who ordered Melchor's death in prison. "Are these the kind of people you're trying to protect?" asks Fajardo. Are they worth the sacrifice? Florentino replies, "If that desgraciada wants me dead, I won't give her the pleasure." Just as Fajardo seems to be getting somewhere, in walks Pardo to announce that Armando Montes has been shot and is close to death.

Fajardo leaves Florentino and goes to investigate Armando's shooting. Camila tells him the shooter was Rebeca: "I entered and she ran out." Fajardo wonders what Rebeca had against Armando.

Marlene and the Monteverdes arrive at some upper-class social affair. Someone comments on not having seen Cinthia and Robert for quite a while. Cinthia claims that they've been traveling in Europe. The French Riviera, says Robert. A gastronomic tour, adds Cinthia. [I'm not sure what the point of all this is. Is Marlene looking for an alibi for when she expects Eva to be killed?]

Rebeca comes to where she and Andy have been staying. Andy is there. She is very upset. She has failed, as never before. Her phone rings, it's Marlene calling, but Rebeca is afraid to answer. She tells Andy that she didn't kill Eva, she killed Armando, Marlene's husband. Andy starts to laugh.

Fajardo asks Eva what Armando was doing at the wedding. He said he was here to see Fabiola, she replies. He didn't know there was going to be a wedding. "He knew, Eva," says Evencio. "The previous night he overheard Marlene Palacios being very happy, and he was afraid something would happen to Eva or to her daughters." "So was this wounding my fault?" she asks. The red truck doesn't answer.

Eva. Excellent recap, Juanita. Glad you could get away to do it! Good comments about some of the tn conventions and coincidences--the only judge in LA, the only bar in LA, etc. And what a coincidence that Armando and Marlene should be in the only bar in LA at exactly the same time! I've seen that ploy of an evil person disguised as wait staff in other shows, but they usually do a better job of explaining how the criminal manages to infiltrate the serving team. Marlene specifically said to Rebeca and Andy that she would be in a public place and have an alibi when Rebeca killed Eva, and Andy said it was a bad idea because the police wanted to take them in.
I had expected Armando to get shot at some point defending Eva, but this is a little early. I had also expected him to be killed, not just wounded and in the hospital. Btw, in the hospital it looks as if he has an eye patch on. I could have sworn he was shot in the stomach and fell backwards. How could he injure his eye? I must have missed something

La Esclava Blanca... epi 51/61, Tuesday
part 1

sorry, the captions were a real mess and the picture was winking tonight, I really can't do justice to a recap, just the high points.

Ana has no luck finding a job and returns home, Angela is there and offers her a job, Ana is thrilled, Felipe talks to her, she talks about renting a room, he talks about how she made him good again and he wants to do the same for her, he says this house is hers, they kiss.

Nicolas comes upon Isabel who is packing to leave, he doesn't understand but it comes out she saw him kill Candela, he forbids her to leave, she threatens to tell Lucia, he can't have that.

Morales is on the move, the Padre says he still has time to save himself with god, he knocks the Padre to the ground.

Enith tries to comfort Bunme who is pretty marked up by her whipping, still not eating, and just wants to die.

Reme thinks everything is going good, but Trinidad is smarting because of Candela's death.

Nicolas has come to get Adela and takes her to where he has Isabel tied up and gagged, they talk over their options, and there is only one, Nicolas pulls out his knife.

Victoria tells Miguel about Lorenza being alive, they are both happy, Milagros comes to get her about Isabel, and we see Victoria arriving at that room, what has happened to Isabel?

(and I didn't get the explanation, an inherited mental thing?)

Miguel talks to Julian about Milagros, he thinks Miguel is lying too, but I think he gets through, Miguel knows Julian is good for his word because if he was going to tell Nicolas, he would have already done so.

Eugenia has gotten the General over to her place, he's drunk and Alonso comes to get him, but the General won't leave, Alonso and Eugenia argue on his way out, and Eugenia gets the gate shut just in time before he turns on her,

Nicolas is spending quality time with Isabel while she is tied up, did he have his hand on her breast while he talked to her, creepy.

I think Victoria and Adela go to town to get the new doctor, but Adela is after Ayutunde, Reme is slowing then down so Victoria has her wait somewhere for them, wink wink, and Reme makes a bee line for the Inn, and they move Lorenza from her room before Adela gets there.

Lorenza is now at Felipe's, and Victoria is arranging for her to see Tomas and Milagros, and Rosita, Lorenza asks, and they tell her the sad story.

Morales is sneaking up on a guard at Eden ?? we latter see him dragging the body, is his throat cut, Morales takes his whip and gun to add to the 3 torches ?? he brought with him.

Adela goes to the church to get the doctor who is treating the Padre, who tells her about Morales, which causes Adela to make a bee line home, the doctor in tow.

feel free to fill in all the holes, it would be much appreciated.

and once again I apologize, please don't sell me to Nicolas.

Eva

Many thanks, SpanProf, for your speedy and helpful response to the recap. Thanks especially for the explanation of Marlene's going to the event with the Monteverdes (and wanting them to go so badly that she bribed them). Now that you mention it, I do recall her saying something about a public place, but I clearly missed part of her statement.

As for the eye patch, I too wondered about it, since Rebeca shot Armando in the stomach, but the eye patch appeared only in the advances, and since we're not supposed to talk about them on the Telemundo page, I decided not to mention it. It's no big deal that you did so, but we probably should say nothing more about it until Monday's episode has aired.

Eva, Esclava, and Señor4

Just a quick reminder that there will be NO EVENING TELENOVELAS TONIGHT, July 1. Telemundo apparently thinks that those of us not traveling for the holiday weekend would prefer to see movies. Oh well... The novelas will be back on Monday (even though that's July 4). Have a good weekend, everyone!

Eva. Yep, I didn't remember if I'd seen the eye patch in the last of the episode or in the advances. At any rate, it subsequently occurred to me that the eye injury could have happened when he was taking the gigantic! assault rifle away from Rebeca. Very scary piece of equipment--it looked even bigger--and a lot shinier--than what soldiers carry. It also occurs to me that this shooting incident is going to make poor Virginia even more superstitious than ever! Though it was a lucky thing that there wasn't a mass shooting and that although Armando was wounded, no one was killed. Kind of reminds me of what happens around here when there's a tornado. You see interviews on the news with people whose houses have been hit, with lots of damage, but they tell the news announcer how lucky they feel because no one was killed or critically injured. Virginia could see it as very lucky that Armando was there to prevent worse mayhem, but I'll bet she doesn't.

ESCLAVA:

Thanks so much Deb, for recapping when you had so many technical troubles.

What happened with the knife is that Nicolas cut his own arm and then claimed that Isabel attacked him and tried to kill him for no reason-- which is why he had to truss her up like a turkey and intends to send her far away to an asylum. He claims his wife suffered from the same kind of violent mental illness, and there is nothing else that can be done.

Poor Isabel! I really hope Victoria smells the bs and is able to get her out of there. And yes, during that scene on the bed Nicolas as basically cupping Isabel's breast. Don't think it was on purpose, as it's probably hard to gauge where one's hand is in the position they were in, but it added to the creepiness, that's for sure.

Trinidad wanted Reme to promise to run away with him-- just the two of them, ditching the plan to escape through the tunnel with everyone. He got frustrated with her that she wouldn't just say yes, and kept saying she wanted to stick to the plan they all agreed to. But he couldn't give her any details of his own plan.

Esclava:
As if we didn't know Nicolas wasn't human. He loves no one but himself. Poor Isabel I wonder how she will get out of this or will she really be sent away. Things are so tense I ma truly afraid to watch. Thanks for the recap. I am happy for the break it is too much.
Romy

Eva

thanks so much Juanita for taking the time to do a recap.

Marlene seems to be letting a lot of things slide because she's planning to be long gone by then, (so the good guys will finally get their evidence)

I thought I heard Marlene say Andy forgot to bring a shovel so they just covered up Elsa's body with sticks and leaves, ha!

when they sold the house I thought Marlene said she rented an apartment, but now she is in a hotel room, as she and Cinthia returned to get something nice for Cinthia to wear since they had sold everything, and Cinthia went to the hotel bathroom to change so Andy and Marlene could talk.

I had to laugh with Andy at Rebeca's dilemma, she didn't kill Eva, but (not yet) the man that Marlene loves.

Esclava Blanca

Thanks for the recap, deb!

Yay for Felipe and Ana!!

Not sure if Eugenia was already thinking it anyway, but Alonso accidentally gave her the idea to marry the General while she was throwing him out.

Ana also admitted that Francisco was one of the murderers when Lorenza was at Felipe's.

Looks like Bunme is giving up :(

Poor Isabel! And way to be even more creeptastic, Nicolas. He just keeps getting worse and worse!!

I cringe at every scene with Adela. She is SO AWFUL.

It is nice to have a slightly longer break from the drama (and Adela's racist comments) this weekend.

Eva

Thanks so much for the terrific recap, Juanita. We really appreciate your going to bat for our cyber circle of friends! I got a big kick out of “the red truck doesn’t answer”.

I agree it was quite surprising that Armando was shot at the wedding. I knew Eva was not going to be killed, but I feared for some of the other guests who aren’t main characters. Nearly everyone who gets shot in a telenovela and doesn’t die on the spot survives, even though there are multiple grave, muy grave remarks on the part of the doctors. So I wonder if it’s possible Armando will also survive, and Adriana will be visiting him in prison, several grandchildren in tow.

They’re painting a more hopeful picture lately of Pablo and Eva’s relationship. Apparently the only real obstacle right now is Eva’s persistent fear that he will hurt/leave her. She’s already attached to Cecilia and Diego would love having Eva in his life. Martín is pushing hard for reconciliation.

I wish I could be around to see Marlene reacting to Armando’s being on the brink. But my DVR will be on duty while I’m away. One thing is for sure: she’s gone over the edge. Excellent acting by Erika as she desperately tells her brother (who looks at her as if she’s grown an extra head) she has to kill Eva before they can flee.

Eva. Love your "Adriana will be visiting him in prison, several grandchildren in tow," novelera. And possibly she'll be telling him about her latest architectural project and how Luis has expanded PanchoPan even more to produce and market additional exceptionally tasty food products.

Eva

I found a short video on the Telemundo site with Erika de la Rosa (quite charming as herself) talking about how she loves to change her "look" with each role. So the short black (with an auburn look in sunlight) is her hair. They showed her as Felicia in the last role she played and on a split screen with her "Marlene" look.

General

Well, I’m getting the sense that, in the not too distant future, our evening novelas will be: Silvana sin Lana, Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso, and Señora Acero, La Coyote. None of these remotely appeals to me. I didn’t watch the first Sin Senos so have no interest in the sequel. So I doubt I’ll be on board for recaps going forward. While on the Telemundo site, I got the impression that they were ending all the evening novelas on the same night and then starting all the new ones the next. If anyone can confirm or deny this, let me know.

General. novelera: Yes. They're calling it Martres, and it's happening July 19. I share your dilemma about what to watch. I didn't see the first Sin senos either, and the little I've seen about the sequel doesn't appeal to me. I guess I'll be going with Silvana sin lana. Even though I don't find the 7PM time as convenient as 8, it does look light and upbeat. I have seen other telenovelas with that theme of a wealthy family reduced to having to live like the common folk--kind of a cliché, in fact.

Esclava

Deb, thanks so much for the recap. Great job!

Isabel being gagged and restrained to her bed was SO ghastly. Her supposedly loving grandmother didn’t blink an eye at incarcerating her in an asylum to prevent her son’s being revealed as having gotten El Eden through murder of its true owners. And her highhanded invasion of Manuela’s posada: unbelievable.

I’m starting to think Trinidad will not make it to the end. He’s just too warped to cooperate with others in a more concrete plan (which also is worrisome, but at least has some chance of success). So he wants Remedios to just walk off the hacienda with him to…where exactly? And he thinks Nicolás is not going to search for him. He’s prime property. They haven’t mentioned any slave hunters, at least that I recall, such as existed in the United States. But, again, he has no plan and would be returned and flogged within an inch of his life. No telling what would happen to Remedios.

Eugenia already was married to an elderly gentleman for his money. I saw this coming when she and the General had some drinks together before. He surely does get plastered a lot, doesn’t he?

I’m surprised Nicolás and Adela are going along with the doctor seeing Isabel. This doctor isn’t like López. He actually seems honest and to know what he’s doing. I guess they’re thinking he’ll interpret anything she says about her father killing Candela as insanity.

General

I too am under the impression that all three of the current novelas will give way to new ones on July 19. And I too am uncertain about what to watch. I didn't see the original Sin Senos, and the little I've seen of the new one doesn't interest me. Right now, I'm leaning toward the 8 PM comedy, Silvana sin lana, though I've also been oddly attracted by what I guess is season 3 of Señora Acero. I didn't see seasons 1 or 2, and the 10 PM time slot is at times a struggle. I dunno. I would like to watch something, since I do find it helpful for my piddling Spanish. At least I think so.

Am off soon with my granddaughters to see BFG.

General: Juanita: Enjoy! And novelera, again, enjoy the wedding! May it be like one of those wonderful weddings in the LAST episode of a novela!

General. Telenovelas are wonderful for improving one's Spanish. It's a good addiction to have, and I recommend watching a tn to all my students at the intermediate level or above. They get an ordinary day-to-day vocabulary that they don't get in even the most modern works of literature, or even in intermediate and advanced conversation classes.

General. + exposure to generally middle-class Mexican (or occasionally Colombian) spoken Spanish, which helps to improve their accents a lot.

General

I watch telenovelas to learn Spanish. :) They are soooo addictive!

Yes, all three new TNs start July 19, which means there are only 11 weekdays to finish 12 episodes each of Eva and El Señor and 10 episodes of Esclava Blanca. (The Esclava Blanca videos will only be available on the Telemundo Now app until July 15, so I'm assuming that's the finale or perhaps the day before is.)

I'm definitely watching Silvana sin Lana because I love Carlos Ponce. I may check out Señora Acero since it's only slightly related to the first two seasons (different main character and storyline). No interest in the other one though.

General

OK, seems like most of the "regulars" are in for Silvana. I'll give it a try. I usually don't go for the comedy novelas, which this looks to be. But maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. The only thing I ever saw Ponce in was a small part of the ghastly Santa Diabla. Gave up on that one quickly.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Novelera: Let me guess, Nicolas & his evil mother are going to have Isabel sent to the crazy house ?

General

I'll probably take a break from recapping after these ones are done, but take a look at all three of the new ones, although I'm leaning towards "Senora Acero", new cast and plot, Roberto Stopello comes up with some crazy stuff, Luis Ernesto Franco (Rodrigo from "Baja el mismo cielo") will be in it, and, it should be a short one (60 episodes).

Esclava

@Steve B., that may happen. But there's no little time left in the novela, I wonder if Victoria may be able to save her from that. I simply don't accept that Isabel won't have a happy ending. I really like the actress in her role.

Esclava

SO little time left in this novela. Sheesh!

General / La Sombra de Helena

Hi everyone, and happy 4th of July to the Americans! I have not been here for a while. Well, since the end of the wonderful Avenida Brasil. I used to use the name Wee Rita.
I want to start watching a new telenovela and I know LSdH started a couple of weeks ago, so I'll just jump right in and hope I can make head or tail of it. My Spanish is not great.
Has anyone watched it yet? Also, what new tn's are coming up soon?

~ Wee Rita (why not??)

General

Welcome back, Jude Gray/Wee Rita! To answer your question about upcoming tns, all three of the current evening ones will give way to the following on July 19: Silvana sin Lana (at 8 pm), Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso (at 9 pm), and Señora Acero 3, La Coyote (at 10 pm). If you read through some of the messages above, you'll find a little bit of discussion about who's planning to watch what. And if you go to the Telemundo web site, you'll find trailers and more info about all three.

Also, since you haven't been here for a while, please know that Caray's Telemundo y Más page comes out TWICE a week, rather than once, as it used to. The new page appears at 3 pm on Mondays and at 8 pm on Thursdays. Also, NovelaMaven and Jean have turned the reins over to LXV and me (Juanita).

General / La Sombra de Helena

Jude Gray- "La Sombra de Helena" so far, is being recapped here,
