Sueño de Amor (SdA) #83. Monday July 11, 2016. The Sick And The Restless

The new “I’m sleeping at my galán’s” makeup collection from MAC features: The eyeshadow palette “Golden Slumbers”, the volumizing mascara “Flirty Forty Winks”, the cream blush “Sleeping Beauty” and the lip plumper “Dozing Off Duckface”.
At a glance

-- Esperanza is released from hospital but she insists on returning to work right away.
-- Kracy threatens to kill Ricardo and his new conquest.
-- Anastasia is nervous about the aftermath of Murillo’s murder.
-- Adrián finishes his stint in rehab and learns that Esperanza has cancer.

A closer look

Esperanza tells Pedro she can’t wait to leave the hospital. She misses home so bad.

At Casa Guerrero, Pato of the Perennial Pout whines about her issues with Luca and reiterates her motto that sometimes love is not enough. She finds a very receptive audience in Ernesto who, instead of telling her to either fish or cut bait, advises she fight for her love. Just look at his example with Esperanza, he says. He is bending over backwards to gain her affection even though he is fully aware that she is still stuck on Tricky Ricky.

At Casa Manzanares, Félix reveals to Margarita that his ex-fiancée suffered a heart attack and dropped dead at the altar.

Salma confides to Kristel that she felt weird when she heard the baby’s heartbeat during her ultrasound. She still believes giving the baby up in adoption is the best option but she wants to meet his prospective adoptive parents first.

At Casa Alegría, Ricardo observes Cristina’s back as she sleeps, which isn't creepy at all. Cristina is facing the viewers, inundated by the light of her bedside lamp, face flawlessly made-up in no-makeup makeup, hair perfectly coiffed, not a single hair out of place, lashes curled and coated in mascara. Even her Lolita pout is there.

Next morning at Casa Alegría, Cristina brushes Abril’s wig and tells her how pretty she is. Ricardo and his kids march into the living room in military step. He orders them to salute Miss Cristina Vélez Valderrama (CVV). Selena says she had a nightmare where her Kracy mom locked her into a dark room full of rats and cockroaches. Ricardo assures his daughter that he’ll always be there to protect her as CVV looks on amorously.

Anastasia is hungover and can’t remember a thing that happened the previous night, including her confession that she is attracted to Kracy.

It’s laundry time at Casa Manzanares with Ace Liquid Something or Other! This isn’t product placement, this is product ramming down the viewer’s throat!

The three Gallos are at the street corner, selling their Kikuado. Kiko + licuado/smoothie = Kikuado. Give it a rest, roosters! It’s just lemonade!

Esperanza is discharged from hospital. Dr. Medrano says she needs to rest and concentrate on her treatment but the stubborn maestra is eager to go back to school.

Luca informs Pato that he needs to register the baby. He thanks her for giving their relationship a chance. She says she loves him. He replies that he loves her double, triple, quadruple, quintuple the amount she loves him. Juaréver.

Viviana tells her maid, best friend and confidante that the ring her fiancé offered her is a cubic zirconia, not an authentic diamond. Eufro wonders whether the jewelry shop deceived Mario (le hicieron de chivo los tamales). Maybe he paid for a diamond and they gave him a cubic zirconia instead (dar gato por liebre). This gives Viviana food for thought.

Kristel announces that the University of Barcelona has accepted her, all expenses paid. In the middle of the academic year and without having even finished highschool? It’s a Sueñolandia miracle!

The Alegría-Vélez reconstituted family drives to school and sings a song about elephants that swing on a spider’s web. They pass Casa Guerrero and Cristina spots Esperanza barely able to stand on her way into her building. Pato notices the merry singing family.

At the constructora, Luca wants to hand the baby back to Anastasia but she says she is busy. She suggests he give the baby to his lackeys, i.e. Begoña and Arleth. Saint Luca corrects her: “They are secretaries!” and preaches: “Thanks to the secretaries, offices are able to advance and prosper”. Amen! He takes the baby to his office. Anastasia is ecstatic that, thanks to the La Sombra blackmail and to the baby respectively, she will be getting money from Ernesto and Luca for life. She marvels at her own genius and kisses herself the way the villana in “Mi Corazón Es Tuyo (MCET) used to do it. Original story, my eye!

At Casa Guerrero, Esperanza is happy to be home and Ernesto is happy to fuss over her. Pato is on her way out to the Palacios to submit some school work. She thanks her dad for taking care of her mom. Ernesto says it is a pleasure.

Kracy asks Anastasia if she remembers what she said to her when she was drunk. Anastasia snaps that she doesn’t. The doorbell rings. It’s Detective Rentería, the only cop in Mexico City. Kracy scurries out of sight.

Ernesto informs Esperanza that Adrián leaves rehab today. Esperanza laments the fact that she didn’t get a chance to visit him. Still, she thinks it would've been counterproductive (contraproducente) to tell him she has cancer. Ernesto thinks it’s time Adrián learns the truth. The young man loves Esperanza like a second mother and he deserves to know, or else he’ll think she didn’t care enough to visit him in rehab.

Detective Rentería notices the other breakfast serving on Anastasia’s table and asks whether she has company. She replies that her baby daddy was here and just left. Rentería informs her that Murillo was murdered and that the police found in his home the check she had written out to him. Anastasia doesn’t like the insinuation that she might be a suspect. Murillo was a private eye and she hired him to find her lost baby, hence the check. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Rentería doesn't look convinced.

At Instituto Palacios, Margarita and Ricardo are having a coffee and a chinwag in the school cafeteria. Since when are these two besties and confidants? Margarita is playing Cupid with Ricardo and CVV, the way she did it with him and Esperanza a few months ago. And just like then, Margarita notices that the pair’s eyes light up when they are together and she claims she has this infallible instinct which tells her they are made for each other. She says she is pleased to see that Ricardo has found happiness once again! Take a hike, Márgara! You’re as phony as a three-dollar bill!

CVV meets Pato in the hallway and asks why Esperanza was limping earlier. Pato says her mom twisted her ankle. She is about to ask CVV about Ricardo but she thinks better of it.

Pedro chases Kristel down the hall demanding an explanation for Barcelona. She stomps angrily into the classroom and barks that it’s none of his business. She owes him no explanation and she didn’t even want him to find out, which is why she mentioned Barcelona in front of Aranza, knowing full well that the latter will runteldat to Pedro. Snivelly Kristel says this isn’t emotional blackmail, she tried that with the hunger strike and it didn’t work. This is the next level, it seems. She blames Pedro for her decision to exile herself to another continent: She is leaving because he broke up with her and because he won’t fight for her love. She announces her flight is on Sunday. Bon Voyage and good riddance!

Viviana, Ernesto, Luca, Estrella and Kiko are waiting for Adrián at the rehab center. Ernesto notices Viviana’s ring and congratulates her on her engagement. Mario is a good man.

At Casa Alegría, CVV tells Ricardo she needs to go back to her place to pick up some papers. She also thanks him for his hospitality and informs him that this is the last night she’ll be spending at his house. She must leave because this is not correct and because each one of them needs their own space with their respective kids. Fair enough, he says. He offers to lend her his car for her errand: “You’ll go faster and I’ll stay home to take care of our children”. “Every time you say ‘our’ children, I get a very special feeling”, she coos. She thanks him using that baby voice and excessive pouting that drive me up the wall.

Kracy intercepts CVV outside. She asks whether she is going out with her husband. Ex-husband, corrects CVV. In any case, Kracy wants to kill Ricardo for hurting her and her kids. “He is a liar!”, she declares. “Besides, do you really think he has gotten over Esperanza?”

At Dr. Medrano’s office, Esperanza learns she must start her chemotherapy sessions tomorrow. The Doc gives her a quick 101 on chemo, how it works and how it affects her body. She insists, however, that she must go back to work. She can’t deal with the effects of chemo while staying at home. Going back to school will be like therapy, insists the stubborn maestra

Outside Casa Alegría, Kracy continues to spew her venom. She says she can’t blame Esperanza for leaving Ricardo because, since his return from the war, he hasn’t been right in the head. According to Kracy, Ricardo is good a projecting a sugar-coated image of himself but CVV will discover his true colors soon enough. “He is a liar!”, repeats Kracy. She threatens CVV that she’ll always be around to pester her. She opens her shirt to show CVV that she is packing. “You’re a runway from justice!”, yells CVV. This seems to catch the attention of a police officer standing nearby. “I swear I’ll be back to kill you!”, mutters Kracy and she runs away. CVV screams at the officer for not intervening earlier

Back at Dr. Medrano’s office, Esperanza is adamant she must go back to work, despite the Doc’s insistence that she needs rest. “I can’t stay at home! I’ll get depressed!” I don’t get this, to be honest. I know Osorio is desperate for Ricardo to see Esperanza wither away but this plot device defies all logic! People who are stomach-less and desperately struggling to stop the relentless advance of stage 4 cancer don’t go against their oncologist’s recommendations! End of rant. Pedro snaps at Esperanza for her stubborn and irresponsible behavior. He reminds her about the time she made him quit his job at the antro because it was affecting his diabetes. Pato says she supports her mom’s decision.

CVV goes back into Casa Alegría and tells Ricardo that his Kracy ex was outside. She was beside herself (fuera de sí) and she threatened to kill CVV

The members of Adrián’s welcome committee take turns to tell him how much they love him, miss him and/or are proud of him. Hugs and kisses all around.

Back at Casa Alegría, Ricardo deals with the Kracy situation like he deals with every crisis: He calls, you guessed it, Baxter! CVV realizes that not everything could be rosy (miel sobre hojuelas). A few days ago, Ricardo had to contend with crazy Óscar and now CVV has to deal with crazy Kracy. When did we get together with these people, going as far as having children with them? wonders CVV. I’ll tell you when, princess! When you let infatuation take over and you jumped in with both feet into super intense relationships that move super fast with people you barely know, that’s when! CVV says Kracy told her Ricardo is still in love with Esperanza. Two seconds later, CVV receives a call and it’s Esperanza asking to be allowed to come back to work tomorrow. Pedro marks his disagreement once again, after his mom hangs up, but she won’t hear it. Staying at home will be like accepting defeat. And resting will be like giving your body a chance to fight the disease, stupid!

Adrián learns his mom is engaged and his brother has a baby.

Ricardo tells CVV they owe each other the truth: They can’t break free (desligarse) from their past. Ricardo admits that he loved Esperanza like he never loved anybody in the world but she disenchanted him (desilusionar) in the most painful way. He has tried very hard to forget her but he still thinks about her from time to time. CVV says she noticed how tense he looked when she took Esperanza’s call a wee while back. CVV feels she has no right to question Ricardo about this issue but he disagrees. That day at the restaurant, the two of them proposed a toast to the start of something wonderful and this gives CVV the right to ask any questions she wants.

Kiko tells Adrián about his physiotherapy and Salma’s invaluable support. Adrián asks how her pregnancy is going. She has good days and bad days, according to Kiko. Ernesto and Luca pull Adrián aside and inform him that Esperanza has cancer.

Kracy is obsessing over CVV. She even thinks she’ll throw hydrochloric acid on her, like she planned to do to Esperanza on her wedding day. Anastasia can’t believe Kracy was crazy enough to threaten her ex-husband’s new paramour when they just learnt that Murillo was killed, most likely by Ernesto. Anastasia is nervous her link to Murillo will be discovered. Kracy doesn’t care: Murillo was a nobody (un pelagatos)! “He died because of you! Because of your little joke!”, accuses Anastasia, referring to Kracy’s prank call to Ernesto. “What’s up, mamacita, you don’t find me attractive anymore?”, taunts Kracy. Anastasia is impactada.

Luca is at home with his baby. Pato pays them a visit. Luca introduces his son to her and she looks at the gorgeous wee bundle of loveliness as if he were a demonic Chucky doll.

A quote from the capítulo

“El amor es una batalla constante, un esfuerzo y una entrega de todos los días.”*

*Ernesto, who has been a failure at love for most of his adult life, explains love to his daughter: “Love is a constant battle, [it requires] effort and a daily dedication.”

Hey amigowz! Hope all is well. Many thanks for your comments over the weekend and sorry I couldn't stop by. Apologies this is later than usual but I didn't have a chance to watch the episode until this morning.

Esperanza had a heavy case of the stoopid in this one. It was infuriating to watch. What did you guys think?

I look forward to reading your opinions on the episode and the characters. Enjoy the discussion! ¡Hasta luego!

Hola! Thanks a lot!

Margarita is as phony as a three dollar bill made me spit the milk through my nose!!

So in the beginning Pato and Ernesto were drinking iced water from a tall pitcher but had the steaming teapot fuming between them? Is that some sort of therapy? Congested nose?

I am sure I heard that story about the bride falling dead right before (or after) saying ''I do''. It was on the news.

Selena has nightmares. Is Dr Mireya's sessions not working?

What was all that fighting in front of the doctor?

Márgara says she is a practical person, not lazy, probably that' why she memorizes her lines and not make up or use her own vocabulary. Besides, why is she asking kristel for a young and handsome spaniard when she has Félix already? Who is helping Osorio writing this, Kiko?

There's a funny saying that goes: Arriba los corazones, y abajo los calzones!

The song of the elephants is very old. My mother used to sing it to me and start with one elephant going to as many as you want, because when that single elephant discovers that the spiderweb can support him, he goes and call another elephant and then there's two, and so on and so forth...

Cheers for getting the conversation started, Pablo!

Márgara is getting on my nerves with all her ooh-ing and drooling over younger guys. She wants a Spaniard Fed-exed to her and she is marveling at Ricardo's physique, yet she has the much-younger she has been harassing at the beginning of the show sleeping in her bed, willingly! What more does she want?

Dr. Mireya's sessions consist of the kids playing with puzzles while she has a chinwag with Tricky Ricky. Maybe she has a crush on him as well.

Kiko and the Lala people lend a hand in the "writing" department. Now th Ace people put in their little grain of salt and the Smine people are in charge of writing all the Baby Luca diaper-changing scenes! All kidding aside though, the Osorio Kid is indeed involved in other aspects of this TN. He choreographed the early dance numbers and a recent nota in "Hoy" shows him helping his dad direct. Osorio kept telling the journalist that his kid wants to get involved in all aspects of novela production. Nepotism at its best.

Dr. Medrano is too good for these people. He deserves a better universe than Sueñolandia. Him and Baxter both.

Thanks for the info about the elephant song. It reminded me of the "monkeys jumping on a bed" children's song, except the monkeys are in descending number. A French children's song we learnt as kids enumerates the number of kilometers that ruined your shoes: "Un kilomètre à pied, ça use, ça use les souliers". It starts with one kilometer and goes as far as you can count, except that the shoes don't get ruined despite the warning contained in the song. :)

Enjoy the rest of your day! :)

Wonderful recap, thanks, Nandicta. Great photo with the best caption. Than you!

I like how Eufro threw out the possible CZ in the engagement ring explanation.

The whole Esperanza working during chemo especially being around kids who are just a breeding ground of viral and bacterial infection is just toooo stupid for words unless you want to turn the "heroine" into a martyr. Nobody is going to notice she is not up to being her usual self? How is she going to keep that that from her dear Ricardo.

I could not believe Pedro on his high horse thinking that somehow he had some right to know what Kristel was doing with her life because they had a "history" together. The best part was her reminding him he wanted to break up. He has turned into just another ass in this story and is just as annoying as she.

Tracy still has her acid ready for an attack it seems.

Pato's reaction to the baby was horrendous. Yes, Nandicta, just like a "Chucky doll". I used to have one if those (it was a gift) until his hair started falling out last year. Then I threw him after his hair in the trash! : )

Pablo, the elefante song is always a winner wherever whenever it appears.

The only good thing: Cristina told Ricardo about Tracy ASAP. Guess with Tracy on the loose they will just have to hunker down together.

Sorry about the typo

*the much younger man she has been harassing

Thank you Nandicta for the recap :)

Marjorie looks beautiful everyday!

Thank you for stopping by, Jarifa!

Eufro seems to be the one with the most common sense in that house. She is smart, loyal and she gives the best advice. She defo needs a raise!

You ar so right about Espe. Her insistence to go back to work, whatever the work is just plain dumb, considering that she has just a few months to live even with all the medical help she can get. Between this and the lying to Ricardo, Esperanza is officially Saint-Esperanza martyr of love and teaching devotion.

Pedro is becoming pathetic but Kristel was dying for that scene. Otherwise, why would she let Aranza hear her talk about her moving to Barcelona accidentally on purpose? Kristel thrives on drama and emotional blackmail but Pedro is an idiot for falling for her game. She wants to move to Europe to see if her ex would stop her at the airport? Go ahead and knock yourself out, princess! Pedro should've sent her a bon voyage Hallmak card! :D

I can't believe they mentioned the acid attack AGAIN in the family show! These people!

Have a great afternoon! :)

You're welcome, Steve! Marjorie de Sousa is indeed a gorgeous woman!

Your recap was delightful and uplifting Nandicta. The vocabulary - extraordinary as usual.

"Pato of the Perennial Pout" and "Even her Lolita pout is there" were among many favorites.

This was not an upbeat episode. I enjoyed Adrian and his reunited family, clearly thrilled to be with one another again but very little else.

"He has tried very hard to forget her but he still thinks about her from time to time". How magnanimous. Ack. It really bothers me that their blended Brady family has meshed so perfectly. Yes, and Marjorie is quite beautiful. It just isn't fair!
Esperanza is out of the hospital and must begin the rigorous chemo right away. Can this poor woman not get a break?? I concede she has only herself to blame but is it too much to ask for Ricardo to spend the next year or two beside himself with grief, thinking only of Espe? I think it is perfectly reasonable.

I think the only thing that might save this is to have Dr. Medrano get on bended knee and profess his ardor for Espe, that he has been secretly harboring all these months.

It appears they have abandoned any pretense of trying to find Erasmo a mate. Perhaps we are lucky we are being spared. :)

"The Sick and the Restless" is right Nandicta. Very, very well done. Thank you!

Diana

Thank you Nandita. Sueno was not aired in the Seattle area last night, or at least my recorder malfunctioned. As silly as this show has become, have to see what ridiculous things have happened.

Thank you, Nandicta! Your recaps are always more than welcome whenever they appear. As always, I love your photo and caption, and the vocabulary is great.

I vote that the next medical drama happens to Pato...a nice not-so-tragic loss of the vocal chords. Her reaction to the baby is beyond immature. It's not like Luca cheated on her.

Why isn't Kristel gone yet? Also, a sudden mid-term FULL SCHOLARSHIP for a foreign student who hasn't even finished high school yet? This is some internet skeezeball luring her over to make her his sex slave, isn't it? Oh, well; she's a drama queen so I'm sure she'll love it. Just leave already.

Maybe Espe wants to go back to work so she can relax and not listen to her whiny children.

Ha..Nandicta...I loved your screencap caption.I Want to place an order. However, I thought you were supposed to wash off your makeup before bedtime!

Ah, IS that MArjie..Breakfast of Champions for Coyotes? EVer since she was KEndrHO in AV, I love to hate her....maybe I should tune in.

After the sudden and inexplicable 'attraction' between Kracy and Anastasia, I would not be surprised if Erasmo start chasing Pedro!! I don't think Pedro would mind!

Vocal cords. Sometimes I can spell.

Some of you think that novelas are written using the same refrigerator magnets with the same words in different order like when you mix the dominoes before playing. OK. That could be true.

I also think that team Osorio has a spinning wheel and a dart, an every day, before the ''writing'' process begin, they throw the dart to see what the episode will be about.

They already exhausted all the combinations possible for the couplings, so here are Erasmo's prospects on the dating game: I am excluding Estrella because that would be (or maybe not, if she happens to be adopted) too much.

Aranza, Arleth, Begonia, Eufrosina, Gretel and the mute #2, I am excluding too the sasquatch girl (forgot her name) because I don't think he can wait 3 more years until she is legal, and Anastasia and Kracy because they already found each other.

Knowing that Osorio Jr. is running this show actually explains a lot. It really isn't terrible, for a middle school production.

Erasmo should get together with Eufrosina. She's the only one of this bunch worth the trouble. He might even be acceptable for her if he stops with the stupid money/pride mistakes and doesn't continue down that dark stalky road he was considering.

Thanks so much for the vocabulary and the hilarious photo captions Nandicta. Always a pleasure.

Nandicta, Thank you for your interesting recap. I can't believe how crazy krazy. If she hates ricky so much why all the jealous rage like shes gonna get him back for herself? And why was that cop so slow gettin there? And why didn't ricky come out of the house when she started talkin......yellin loud. That would have been a good time to show how watchful he is over the people he cares about.

I really like him better with cristine. But it is what it is. Ricky and espy sittin in a tree, k-I-s-s-I-n-g, whatever.

Diana, Julia, Emeraldrose and Nina, thanks ever so much for taking the time to read and comment. I'm really sorry I haven't participated in the conversation like I ought to but things have been manic at home/work + I was behind on both shows I'm due to recap. Cheers to all of you, amigowz, for keeping this small patio so fun and lively! :)

Susanlynn and JudyB, many thanks for swinging by our small patio to greet us and leave a lovely comment. I really appreciate it! :)
