Un Camino Hacia el Destino-Week 22 (July 18, 2016) 2nd Half
Don Fernando (QEPD) has walked out of the confines of his malady along the train tracks to heaven. (He’s in a better place now where he doesn’t have to hear the people around him squabbling over his fortune and he knows who he is.) There is a casual dress funeral.
"Solorzano comes to pay his busted up buddy a visit [in the hospital].” While he’s there three things happen: 1) Luis tells him Marissa is pressuring him to retract the accusation against Carlos; 2) they worry about the damaging documents regarding their bank embezzlements; and 3) Luis hears something through the closed hospital doors. (Solorzano promises to take the heat for not retracting the accusation; the two conspirators pay some thugs to hold up Iggy Super Oh! (love it); and Luis, through no effort of his own, becomes Papa-of-the-Year, Jerry Springer style.)
“When the spit hits the fan,” Pedro is banging nails into his fake-looking wood-veneer paneling. Luis comes a-calling to see HIS daughter. (We wish Pedro would use the hammer on Luis.)
Camila witnesses “the worse fake t.v. fight since the 70’s,” and freaks out. (Poor thing, she doesn’t know Don Fer is dead and buried. She liked the old guy.)
"Luis is reminiscing about the good ole days," when he hated this scheming swindler and is now his daughter. (He defends her against Izzy, who is aghast by his 180.)
Marissa doesn’t learn about the bank fraud (because Super Oh! and Carlos don’t tell her).
Don Fer’s two wills get read. The notario decides the one leaving almost everything to Fernanda is the right one. Mariana and Amelia vow to fight to the death. (Is this a Roman Circus or what?)
Fer and Carlos are back in their special tree. Carlos surprises her with an engagement ring. She accepts it, then he tells her they must wait until after the trial is over, though, to get married. (Or until Episode #125, which is still aways away.)

"Mariana and Amelia vow to fight to the death. (Is this a Roman Circus or what?)" made me laugh and nod my head vigorously in agreement.
While we mourn Don Fer, we rejoice in the small, positive steps some of our characters that have fallen out of favor have made (I'm looking at you Pedro).
I am fervently hoping that as Carlos and Fernanda are now together, that they stay together and fight any and all obstacles, including loathsome Luis.

Recap for 7/19/2019
Part #1:
Javier’s office: Javier tells Maribel that he’s no longer going to be her doctor, because he’s been offered a job in Spain. Fernanda and Carlos have gotten back together, so there’s nothing keeping him here. “You don’t know what it’s like to love someone who doesn’t love you back.”
“Yes, I do, and I know it very well,” Maribel says. Javier wants her to tell him the details, but she declines.
Pedro’s casita: Carlos tells Pedro that he asked Fernanda to marry him today, and Fernanda tells him that she said yes. She loves Carlos with everything she has, and he’s the love of her life. Carlos says that he knows that Fernanda and Pedro’s grandson are the most important things in Pedro’s life, and he asks for Pedro’s blessing and for Fernanda’s hand in marriage.
Fernanda says that there can’t be hate between Pedro and Carlos because there is only love in her heart. Right now she has the three men most important in her life there. Pedro looks resigned and unhappy, but he tells Carlos, “If you promise me that you will take care of her, protect her, and make her happy for the rest of her life, then yes, I give the hand of my daughter.” And he asks Carlos to forgive him. They agreed to start over “from zero.”
Amelia’s office at the construction company: Amelia tells Ordóñez how grateful she is for his help at the reading of the will. He tells her that he was surprised at Mariana’s greed, and Amelia tells him that Mariana has no limits and no respect for anything or anyone. Ordóñez tells her that it will take some time for Fernanda to come into her fortune. Amelia says it doesn’t matter as long as her father’s last wish is fulfilled.
Courthouse: The trial is underway, and the prosecutor calls Carlos to the stand and grills him, “Why did you try to kill Luis Montero?”
“I didn’t try to kill him. There’s a big difference between saying something and doing it. And I didn’t order anybody else to do it either.”
Marissa is then called to the stand. “Did your son threaten the attorney Luis Montero?”
“Yes, it’s true,” she admits. “But my son would never murder Luis Montero.”
Fernanda hugs Carlos. Seeing this public display of affection, Pedro apparently forgets that he has given their union his blessing, and he grumbles under his breath, calling Carlos a murderer who’s touching his daughter. He realizes that Carlos has heard him and asks for an apology.
Isabela is called to the stand. She collaborates Marissa’s testimony that Carlos threatened to kill Luis, but says that she knows he wouldn’t do it. She says that she knows the true class of person that Carlos is, otherwise she would not have spent so many years in love with him. (Maybe she’s not so high on the villainess scale after all.)
Luis incites Carlos to lose his cool. “Guilty, guilty, guilty!”
Tense breakfast at the Altamirado mansion: “This is a house of criminals,” Mariana says. “Poor child, with those genes, he’s a budding delinquent.”
After Amelia leaves, Hernan tells Mariana, “I’ve saved enough money, why don’t we leave here and get another house? We could love each other there, or grow our mutual hate.” However, Mariana has other ideas. She says that they can use that money to pay for lawyers and buy off judges.
Boarding school: Lucero’s mother talks to Rosaura. It’s been three years and she wants to make amends with Lucero. Rosaura hasn’t seen Lucero in a while, but Diego is still teaching at the school, so she goes to fetch him. Diego tells Rosaura that Lucero doesn’t want to see her mother again. Rosaura doesn’t believe this; Lucero would never hold a grudge. (Looks like Rosaura is starting to suspect things are amiss.)
Bad neighborhood in town: Camila is crying in the alleyway, and when Vlad tries to talk to her, she tells him to leave. He does, unsteadily, clutching his side where he was battered in the nightclub.
Restaurant: Leopoldo is talking to Andrea on the phone. Andrea tries to convince him that what he’s doing is wrong.
Diego and Lucero’s apartment: Diego unlocks the padlock and enters. He’s angry and tells Lucero not to bother him. He says that before he lets anyone take her away from him, he’ll ++++++++++++kill her and then kill himself.
Courthouse: Leopoldo insists on speaking. He admits to arranging to have Luis Montero killed. “I’m the mastermind behind it.” The judge suspends the trial until tomorrow, but it’s pretty clear that Carlos is not guilty.
But before any celebration can start, Pedro notices that Luis is staring at Fernanda. Pedro realizes that his worst fears are about to take place. He tries to hustle Fernanda out of the courtroom, but it’s too late. “Hija, hija, hija!” Luis screams.
“Why did he call me ‘daughter’”? Fernanda asks.
Marissa tells Carlos that she’s going to ask Ordóñez to help Leopoldo with his legal defense.
Altamirado mansion: Luis bursts in and confronts Mariana. “You knew the truth and you hid it from me. Now that I know that Fernanda is my daughter, you’re not going to cheat her out of her money.”
Executive offices at the bank: Lupe tells Ordóñez that people have heard the news and are afraid of a bank failure. They’re withdrawing money from the bank.
Pedro’s casita: Pedro and Amelia decide to take a walk. (It looks like they might reconcile. Oh, what the heck…they deserve each other.) No chance for that now, though. Luis confronts them and demands to see his daughter. Amelia reminds Luis how he abandoned her when she was pregnant and tells him that he has no right. Pedro, being a man of action and few words, tries to choke Luis until Amelia convinces him to stop. Luis is red-faced and gasping for breath, but he has not been deterred. “I have a daughter and I will come back 1000 and one times if necessary until I see her.”
Lakeside: We are treated to a joyous family scene. Fernanda and Carlos smooch while Pedrito plays with his toys. “Our dreams have become reality,” she gushes. Poor Fernanda…she doesn’t know it yet, but so have her nightmares.
Back at the casita: Pedro tells Amelia that he has to give Fernanda the news before Luis does.
Since mariana and amelia are at war whose gonna shoot first?
That courtroon scene is pretty fired up. I don't think it will end well for louy the leech.
David, can't wait for your recap, its gonna be juicy.
We start off with Fer putting Pedrito to bed, and she tells him about his father and how much they all love each other. She tells him that he is her reason for being. (Hint; when you're trying to get a kid to go to sleep, don't talk to him.)
Pedro and Amelia are walking and sharing an umbrella. They are talking about Fer, and Amelia asks Pedro to protect Fer. He says he would die before he would let anything happen to her. They say they've never gone out before, but plan to see each other tomorrow evening. Amelia gives Pedro a tender kiss on his left cheek and leaves. Pedro can't figure this new Amelia out.
Carlos brings his mom a tea (made of "tila"????) so she will sleep well after such a heavy day. Marissa tells him Pedro is odd lately and she thinks Luis is involved somehow. Carlos tries to reassure her, but she is sure something is going on. She wants to find out what it is so it doesn't blow up in her face like so many other things have.
Pedro goes into Fer's room where she is sleeping, I guess to tell her about Luis. He actually tells her to wake up, but changes his mind and decides to let her sleep in peace.
Maribel is staying with them and she and Pedro talk (she has taken to calling him "don Peter"). She offers him a tea (what's with all this tea at bedtime? Drink a beer or a glass of wine or something). Pedro senses something is wrong with her. She says she hasn't done anything wrong, and Pedro chuckles. They decide to chat, so Pedro pulls over his best living room log for her to sit on. She says she is in love and Pedro is surprised. She tells him it won''t go anywhere because her love interest is like a prince and she li like a toad. (I thought love stories always used frogs, not toads). Pedro says Jav is no prince, and she is no toad. Maribel is surprised - how did he know? Because, Pedro says, you can't hide love or money. (Pedro, Jimmy Hoffa did a pretty good job of hiding money. Then the hider became the hidden.)
Back in court, Leo is called back to the stand. He says that he and Luis were friends since their university days, but now Luis has betrayed him, and physically and mentally abused Leo's girlfriend, who used to be Luis' lover. Leo goes on to say that Luis ruined him professionally, so, yeah Leo put out a contract to kill him. Leo drops a bombshell by saying Luis tried to kill marissa so he could take over the bank. Luis is protecting and Marissa and Carlos are stunned. Luis lawyer says he hopes Leo has proof, and Leo hands the proof to the judge. In a flashback, Andrea tells Isy that, despite what everyone may think, she has respect for Marissa.
Amelia gives Hernan an assignment, and he starts to leave, but she stops him. She wants to know about Camila because it's her birthday. Hernan doesn't know where she is or where to look for her, and uncharacteristically blames himself for muffing the parent thing. Amelia says we all make mistakes, and they agree always to the ones we love the most.
Just to drive home this point they show Camila on the street, apparently hungry and broke, trying to figure out how to steal some rolls.
Back in court, luis is calling Leo a liar. Leo says he tried to kill Marissa by switching her pills. Marissa says that he put her in a coma for two years, and calls him the worst kind of man, then sags into her chair, barely supported by Carlos.
David
Lupe is phoning Igy to tell him the bad news just keeps pouring in. He tells her to arrange group call for later. She asks after Marissa and he tells her she is having the worst day of her life. They talk about how Igy has a lot on his shoulders, and he says a lot of people are counting on him.
Once again with the legal proceedings, Leo finishes his testimony and Luis continues to call him a liar. (I know that the little wooden hammer that the judge has is called a gavel, but I wonder what you call the little wooden pad that you bang the gavel against? Whatever it's called, it got one hell of a workout as the judge tried to maintain order and decorum in his court room.) The judge orders Carlos freed and Leo taken into custody, and I think he ordered an investigation into Luis.
Marissa is home and is very depressed. Clarita tries to get her to eat something but she refuses. I can't say I blame her. If my spouse was exposed as a vomititious lowlife as hers was, I'd be a little sick to my stomach too. Paquito comes in and tries to cheer her up a little. Mostly for his sake, she pretends to be buoyed by his efforts. Paquito tells her that Carlos once told him something that Rosauro had told Carlos; "This too shall pass."
Isy approaches Carlos and tries to maintain her friendship with him. He is like, What color is the sky in your universe, Isy? He tells her she isn't welcome in his home, and to get out and never come back. Sheesh, I would have done that months ago.
Iggy and Lupe are working the phones at the bank but the news is all bad. Iggy tells Lupe that he hates to do it, but he'll have to tell Marissa how bad things are.
Amelia, Fer and Pedro are walking around with Pedrito in a wheelbarrow. They are glad that Carlos is finally free. Fer brings up Camila's birthday, wanting to do something special for her. Amelia tells her that nobody knows where she is, nor do they have any idea where to start looking. (I would start with a missing persons report. Just saying'.) Pedrito is digging in a flower pot in the wheelbarrow, has a dirty face, and Pedro couldn't be prouder.
Luis and Ishmael are discussing what they should do. Ish wants to flee the country, but Luis says no. He tells Ish that these aren't problems, they are opportunities. (Attempted murder is an opportunity?) They consider having Leo killed, but Luis thinks he will try to bride him. That should go well, considering that Leo has just voluntarily condemned himself to maybe 40 years in a Mexican prison just to fry your ass, Luis.
Isy walks in and sees them. With a sad look she says, "I had hoped you wouldn't have been here."
David
Luis and Isy are talking. He pours her some whiskey. Luis talks about how they understand each other so well (what with they're both low-lifes among other things). She was never going to make it with Carlos - she was just some rich peoples toy. She disagrees - she still thinks she could make it with Carlos. Jeez, lady, get a grip. Luis starts talking about how he might approach Fer.
Carlos pops in to see Paquito, who has lots of questions. He has heard that he has a younger brother, and wonders when this whole family thing is going to clear the launch pad. Carlos says yes, you do have a younger brother and his name is Pedrito. We're going to be a big happy family. Paquito tells Carlos that Marissa is in the dumps. They go off together to cheer her up.
Fer stops by the flower shop to show Maribel her ring. They are both excited about it. Maribel promises not to try to steal it. Fer is over the moon with hopes and dreams of her future life with Carlos.
Carlos goes alone to cheer Marissa up, but she is mortified and unconsolable about how stupid and blind she has been, and how she treated Carlos as kind of a second class citizen, trying to support her husband and be a productive part of a couple. She is really depressed and Carlos says to cheer up, it's over now. But she won't let go, and repeatedly asks Carlos for his forgiveness.
Amelia and Pedro are talking as they watch Fer digging stuff in the garden while Pedrito naps in the wheelbarrow. Fer knows something is up because she knows Pedro so well. Pedro tells Amelia to "lie to him and tell him it will be ok." Amelia says it WILL be ok, and that's not a lie.
Pedro walks down to where Fer is hems and haws around, and finally tells her that he isn't her bio dad, Luis Montero is.
Fer is crushed and begs Pedro to say it isn't so, then has flashbacks to times when Luis had maltreated her. Amelia watched from the cottage, wishing she had fallen for Pedro instead of Luis.
We end with Fer and Pedro tearfully clinging to each other.

David
You captured the events of the other night so clearly.
“If you promise me that you will take care of her, protect her, and make her happy for the rest of her life, then yes, I give the hand of my daughter.” And he asks Carlos to forgive him. They agreed to start over “from zero.” Finally, some admittance and repentance. A very long time in coming.
So Lucero's mother has let 3 years go by without seeing her daughter? Let's hope she doesn't take no for an answer...I agree, Sister Sor is starting to appear suspicious. Let's hope she follows up on that.
"Our dreams have become reality,” she gushes. Poor Fernanda…she doesn’t know it yet, but so have her nightmares". Excellent quote.
David, will be reading your summary shortly. Looking forward to it!
Diana
You have such a gift of infusing just the right amount of wry humor to sidetrack us from the grim events and remind us that amidst the sorrow, there is always laughter.
Too many favorites to mention but "(Hint; when you're trying to get a kid to go to sleep, don't talk to him)", "(what's with all this tea at bedtime? Drink a beer or a glass of wine or something)" and "Pedro, Jimmy Hoffa did a pretty good job of hiding money. Then the hider" were among many favorites.
Of course Fernanda was devastated to learn Luis is her father. I hope when the hurt subsides, she is able to get past her grief and turn her hurt toward shielding herself from any further emotional hurt Luis will try and inflict on her.
"Carlos goes alone to cheer Marissa up, but she is mortified and unconsolable about how stupid and blind she has been, and how she treated Carlos as kind of a second class citizen, trying to support her husband and be a productive part of a couple". Yes, Marissa erred badly. Carlos has always been worthy of her support and trust and she failed him miserably. He did nothing but love and support his mother to the nth degree and she chose her lying, cheating scoundrel of a husband over her devoted son.
"Amelia gives Pedro a tender kiss on his left cheek and leaves. Pedro can't figure this new Amelia out.." There is no doubt Pedro loves Amelia. He always will. I hope this fractured couple can heal. I think in the long run they are destined for each other.
David, this was wonderful. Thank you, thank you.
Diana
Jeez Diego is a piece of work, isn't he? I don't know where they are taking this, but it stinks to high heaven. I hope Fer can be a catalyst for Lucero's salvation.
"Why did he call me daughter?" Well that is the lead in to what happened last night. Full, devastating disclosure. Poor Fer. I predict that she will come out shining in the end, and that Luis will be staring out of the bars of a Mexican jail.
Thanks, Aleta. You have a clarity and orderliness that I wish I had.
David
I have every expectation that Fer will overcome her current consternation at learning that Luis is her father. She is the "Unsinkable Molly Brown" in every sense of that phrase.
Like you, I hope there is a future for Pedro and Amelia. She has come a long, long way in addressing her stunted maturing process, and Pedro should be the recipient of the benefits that this could bestow.
Pedro has been doing his own maturing, too. By first accepting Carlos as Fer's suitor, and then telling Fer about Luis, he has pretty well cleaned up all the dirty little secrets of his life, and faced forward to the future for the first time.
Thanks again, Diana.
David
Anita thanks for taking tonight and sure I can do 8/1.
You stated Pedro's journey succinctly and perfectly David.
I don't know why my utter contempt for Amelia has morphed into wishing she finds happiness. Lisette has been brilliant here. She exudes a calmness and restraint that I could only hope to emulate. She has demonstrated her sorrow for past deeds but gone further. While she hovers in the background to let Pedro and Fernanda know she his there, she has not pushed or stepped beyond the physical and emotional boundaries they have set.I believe it is a testament to the superb writing that has allowed the characters to transform through love and understanding. The theme of forgiveness is rampant here and mercifully so.
Diana
I wonder how redemption will play into the resolution of the Diego/Lucero problem. I had so much hope for those two, but that guy scares me, and I ain't scared of nuthin.
Likewise, will Luis have a come to Jesus moment, or will he fritter away his redemption with his monomaniacal self-interest.
David
As for your question about how redemption will figure into the Diego/Lucero situation, I think that Lucero and her mother will forgive each other. Perhaps her mother will get Lucero out of the dangerous mess she's in, thereby earning redemption.
I have no idea about Luis. He's dug himself in pretty deep.
However, what I do know is the detail that you put into recapping is awesome Aleta. I had kind of forgotten those details in the episode and you captured them and brought them back to the forefront.
David, your side notes were so funny - I think Diana and Aleta highlighted my favorites.
Lucero's mom taking 3 years to try to reconcile with her daughter? That's too damn long. Maybe 6 months to 1 year you are pissed, but she's your daughter and all she did was fall in love with a much older man and marry him. How is this 3 years of unforgivable? But at least she's back.
I still can't care about Pedro and Amelia and their reconciliation. I will admit that I'm glad that she and Fer have reconciled. That violin in prison softened me to that relationship, but as for her personal life with a man and it being Pedro, eh? The writers have made me not care about them as a couple or want to cheer for them like Carlos and Fer or Leo and Andrea - I think that's it.
Mariana's nonchalant attitude is perfect, her evil and deadly ways deserve jail or death (death really is too good for her). Luis is probably the only character that I'm not sure if I want him to turn around or not. I think that he genuinely wants Fer to be his daughter (he has cried every time since finding out) but he lacks - like Pedro - the awareness that Carlos is the love of and in her life and why are you trying to destroy him if you want to be with her. Not to mention he is your grandsons father.
Pedro got to me last night with something like - I hate Luis, but he gave me you so I can't hate him too much and how much Luis changed his life for the better. Whatever that was. Fer's finding out and saying she doesn't even have one good memory of Luis was painful and the second time I almost cried for her. The first time I think I actually did when Amelia told her she hated her and she and Camilla where crying about not having mothers.
Thanks again you too! I love replaying these scenes through your words.
I totally concur. Sometimes, it's not the overt bullying, ranting and raving, it's the quiet threat - the tightening of a jaw, the inadvertent puffing of the chest, the potential violence simmering and bubbling beneath the surface that is the scariest.
Aleta, I also think Lucero and her mother will forgive each other. I think Fer and other visitors haven't really taken the time to consider that the padlocked door means something nefarious is going on. I mean, it would sound alarms if I saw that, but maybe it's just me. In a TN with such careful attention to detail, this is falling a bit flat. I sense once her mother finds out where she lives, she will be alarmed and agree she will be the one to rescue her daughter.
Diana
It is made from an infusion using linden tree blossoms. If you haven't ever had the experience of the scent of Linden trees in bloom (or our native American Basswood), you are in for a treat. I would call it intoxicating. (Berlin's Unter den Linden, the most famous boulevard in Berlin, is a tribute to these trees. Check out Wikipedia's description and history.)
I don't think this is TEA the way we think of tea, which contains caffeine. I would agree regular tea would pep you up. There must be something in the linden flower that has a calming effect, or they wouldn't keep using it in our beloved telenovelas.
Stop reading here, if there is no wish to get TMI. This goes into the chemical properties:
"Linden flowers contain a number of natural compounds, or phytochemicals, that are biologically active and responsible for some it properties. Several of its components are antioxidant chemicals called flavonoids, including one called quercetin. Antioxidants help rid your body of free radicals, unstable chemicals that form in your skin when you're in sunlight or in your organs when you're exposed to environmental toxins. Over time, free radicals can damage cellular membranes and DNA, raising your risk of heart disease, cancer and other chronic problems. Quercetin and other linden components called kaempferol and p-coumaric acid are also diaphoretics, chemicals that cause you to sweat, while some volatile oils in the flowers may have sedative, calming properties." NOTE: This comes from a website: livestrong dot com. Disclaimer--I know nothing about this website--it's the first one that popped up that had all this information.
"A gavel is a small ceremonial mallet commonly made of hardwood, typically fashioned with a handle and often struck against a sound block, a striking surface typically also made of hardwood, to enhance its sounding qualities.
It is a symbol of the authority and right to act officially in the capacity of a chair or presiding officer.
Bold italics mine.
Javier has news for Maribel that doesn’t make her very happy. He’s probably been offered a role in another telenovela and it starts next week.
Pedro certainly has dialed back his feelings for Carlos. But in the courtroom, it was obvious that is was still simmering under the surface.
Hernan and Mariana continue to get the best zingers, "Hernan tells Mariana, “I’ve saved enough money, why don’t we leave here and get another house? We could love each other there, or grow our mutual hate.”" This was so funny because his tone didn't change a bit.
This is my top of the billboard chart, "Pedro, being a man of action and few words, tries to choke Luis until Amelia convinces him to stop."
Anita, I was really confused by all that tea drinking just before bed, but your explanation helped. Also, I'll bet that "sounding block" had some dents in it after that court session.
David
And this one, "Pedro pulls over his best living room log for her to sit on." Hey, 'cmon, we've said it before, we KNOW they represent poor people, but Pedro works and gets a salary. He spends NOTHING on clothing and the house is FREE. Surely he can afford ONE chair, so he and Marissa don't have to sit outside in the grass. Maybe he spent it all on that huge picture window.
I have noticed that Fernanda's wardrobe of torn midriff-exposing t-shirts have been traded in for some very cute dresses. I guess that takes money.
Oh, and I loved your reference to Jimmy Hoffa, the hider, becoming the hidden. It's like Deep Throat--I wanted to know who DT was before I start my trek on those railroad tracks to heaven. Same goes for Jimmy.
I hope they can convince a judge (what jury?) that Leo's time served for something he didn't do will make up for his attempted assassination of Luis. Luis certainly seems fully recovered after a near-death experience. Even his abominable personality came through intact.
Pedro made his confession to Fer--for not having told her who her bio-dad was. I'm waiting to see what kind of questions Fer has for Amelia. After all, she was the one who actually did the deed with Luis, not Pedro.
David this was an amazing recap, I really enjoyed this. You know, when little peddy was in the wheelbarrel I thought he was eating the dirt, yuck!!! So glad he wasn't.
Mariana is a peice of work. She wants to waste money tryin to steal more money, which she wont get. And herny says hes saved enough money for them to have their own place. He should take that money and get babygirl and leave that place and his mean ungrateful......that woman he married.
Poor marissa, she married the original ball and chain. She needs rescuing....iggy.
O fer, after the tears hold on to daddy pedro. now I can see him beating the crap out of Louy the leech to protect his baby girl and he'd be justified.
Ok dinners ready. Thanks David, you done good. ♡Nina
Fer and Pedro are still outside, Fer dealing with the news that Luis Montero is her bio-dad. Fer wants to know why Pedro is telling her now. In between recriminations, he finally confesses that Luis just found out this secret he had kept for so long and he didn’t want Fer to hear it from Luis. He tells her when she first started seeing Carlos and he learned he lived with Luis, he did try to separate them because he was afraid Carlos or Luis would say something. He has held back for so long because he knew the revelation would hurt her. (Pedro mumbles a lot in this scene.) Fer turns it back on Pedro, thinking sadly how he must have suffered all this time, knowing, and being alone.
Amelia is waiting inside the shack, teary-eyed and also feeling her own recriminations for her role in this debacle. She decides there’s nothing more she can do about the past; what’s done is done; all there is, is to look forward. (I hope she’s right.) She continues to tell herself she hopes Fer will understand that one can’t be blamed for whom one falls in love with. Once upon a time, she loved Luis and had his child. She’s grateful she has Fer as a daughter.
Fer begs her father to protect her from that man as he protected her before. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with that man—ever. She’s the gardener’s daughter and that’s who she wants to be when she dies.
Iggy Super Oh! has come to the Gomez-Ruiz house. Marissa is still a bit wobbly and weak. Carlos asks Iggy to go easy on her. Marissa interrupts—go easy? What could possibly be worse than finding out her husband was trying to kill her. Iggy proceeds to tell her Luis has put the bank at risk, worse than they had foreseen. How bad is it, Marissa wants to know. Iggy has to tell her that more branches are closing and they are running out of cash—they are nearly bankrupt. Marissa goes weak in the knees and sags down on the couch.
Fer has returned to the shack to Amelia. Fer embraces her and calls her mamá. She needs Amelia more than ever. Amelia begs forgiveness for all of this. (Here comes a wind storm right through the shack that made it hard to understand the dialog.) Fer feels completely undone, but not because of Amelia. Falling in love with that man was Amelia’s decision, but all the maliciousness of that man was his decision alone. Fer admits the rejection she feels is something she’ll have to live with. Fer tells them she has to get away by herself, somewhere, where she doesn’t feel so dirty. Amelia doesn’t want her to go by herself, but Fer leaves.
Carlos has brought Marissa to the clinic. Dr. Arteaga comes back with the test results. They are not good. She must have complete rest. Marissa asks to go home. Carlos makes her promise to stay away from any bank business. Her health is the priority. If she doesn’t follow orders, he’s taking her back to Houston. Marissa protests that if they do, they could lose everything. Carlos says her life and health is worth losing it all.
NOW Amelia is worried about Fer; where could she be. PEDRO has to remind her Fer isn’t a child anymore. What Fer needs now is respect and needing a little space. Amelia says it’s not a matter of respect, it’s a matter of security. She doesn’t want anything to befall her. Pedro says they can’t be there to protect her all the time, but they can counsel and advise her. (Is this really Pedro talking? I guess a lot of Fer rubbed off on him.)
Amelia is still worried about feeling so guilty and how to ask Fer to forgive her. Pedro tells her truthfully that she couldn’t have known what a bad person Luis would turn out to be. What she does need to ask forgiveness for is what came after—her bitterness, the pain she caused. Pedro says that for himself, she has nothing to be forgiven for. Amelia says she doesn’t know how when she can’t forgive herself. Pedro gives her a comforting embrace.
Fer wanders around the countryside wondering how she’s going to deal with this revelation that she is the daughter of Luis Montero. She recalls Luis’ last words—hija, hija and her reply—for you I will always be the swindler.
Meanwhile, our two-toned fellow swindler-in-cahoots, has reached bottom. She collapses on the sidewalk of a completely empty street in an empty town, clutching her purse. She must still have money because later we see she has picked herself up, dusted herself off and is on a bus to nowhere. Hermy has come looking for Cam at Vlad’s place. Vlad can’t convince him Cam’s not there. He calls out for her, but gets no answer. He looks pretty undone himself now.
Marissa is back home. Carlos is going to go see Fernanda. He tells her Iggy Super Oh! is coming to see her, but she has to promise not to talk banking matters with him. He arrives. He’s sorry about all this mess. He reaches for her hands and she takes his. He recommends getting Luis out of the bank and out of her life. He’s proud of her taking the first step with a divorce. Their hands are still clasped when Luis bursts in. Luis accuses her of wanting the divorce because of this so-and-so.
It’s dark outside now and Fer has not returned. Carlos can’t believe they don’t know where she went. He’s quite agitated. Pedro and Amelia tell him she’s going through a difficult period right now and wanted to be alone. Carlos presses. He wants to know what it is she’s going through. Pedro reminds Amelia about the consequences of keeping secrets and that Carlos loves Fer. They decide to tell him. Amelia comes out with it—Pedro isn’t her bio-dad. Carlos says, so? Fer told him a long time ago. Pedro says that what she couldn’t have told him is who her father is. Amelia finally comes out with the rest and yes, Carlos knows him—it’s Luis Montero. Carlos engages his flashback memory chip and recalls it all perfectly. He realizes it was Amelia’s voice that has been haunting him all these years. (It’s déjà vu all over again. I get to report on the backward driving VW loaded up with Amelia and all of Pedro’s landscaping equipment.) Even at that young age, he says, he was fully aware and remembers that was the day his mother married Luis, and how he knew instinctively that Luis was a bad man—to leave a pregnant woman to marry someone else. That woman was Amelia, right? And it was Fernanda she was expecting?
Carlos is about to go search the hills and dales for Fernanda when she walks in, very tired. Once they see she’s all right and just wants to go to bed, Carlos kisses her forehead and she heads for her little room.
Meanwhile, the putative father is raising his voice, insulting Marissa most callously, calling her a “cualquiera” (which literally means ordinary, but we know he means a slut, or loose woman). That angers Iggy. Luis just keeps running his mouth accusing Iggy of getting involved with a married woman—his wife. Marissa interrupts and tells him he doesn’t know what he’s saying—not all men are like him. He calls her a cheat. She says yes, she’s a married woman, unfortunately, married to him, but she’s never cheated on him. He decides he can charge her with adultery. And as for the bank? This isn’t the end of it, it’s just the beginning.
Iggy tells Marissa to ignore Luis’ words. What they need to do now is to verify Leo’s accusation of attempted murder and Luis is gone from her life.
Carlos is home, stretched out on his bed, reliving his memory again. It’s no longer a nightmare, he’s put a face to the voice. Then he relives meeting Fer for the first time. Now he understands they always belonged to each other.
Solorsano is visiting Leo in prison. Leo knows he’s up the river for a long time, so Luis’ offer of $2 million USD to retract his accusations mean zilch, zero, cero, nada. Besides, he guesses it’s probably money Luis stole from Marissa. Solorsano says he ought to take it. He tries to sweeten the pot by warning him not to talk about it or something might happen to him inside the prison. Leo has a message for him. If something happens to him inside, it’s his own problem, but he can’t wait to greet Luis when he gets put in prison and then they’ll see for whom it is worse, Luis or Leo.
Next morning, Pedro tries to smooth things over, but Fer says it’s her problem to solve and hers alone. All she knows is she doesn’t want to see that man again, ever, in her life, as that man happens to be the one who comes knocking at their door. Fer has enough strength after a bad night to rip him apart. She lets him have it—a dagger in the heart. Luis calls her Luisa. Fer retorts with what happened to “estafadora?” Luis says things have changed. Pedro wants to run interference for her, but Fer says it’s better to face this man than to run away from him. Luis says, this man is her father. Fer tells him, no, that a father is one who raises, educates and loves a child. Between the two of them there is nothing but hatred. Luis says things don’t have to be that way. Oh, says Fer, and how would he like them to be, when she has it very clear, all the things he did to her since they met. How will she ever forget the two years she spent in prison at his hands, for something she didn’t do.
Luis wants to talk somewhere else. Fer wants to know what’s the problem with talking here. It’s been her home for 21 years; no make that 19, for 2 years she spent in prison, thanks to him. Luis wants to be forgiven. Fer rightly demands what’s wrong with him. A simple act of contrition makes everything right? She can’t forget what he did to her. Luis responds, surely she could do it for her father. Fer says a father wouldn’t do the things he did to her or to anyone. Her father didn’t, he’s a great human being. Luis isn’t talking about the gardener; he reminds her, her father is a lawyer. No, replies Fernanda, her father is a gardener. She tells Luis she just wants to be left alone in peace. He should forget about her, just the way she forgot about her mother when she was pregnant. He’s sorry about that. It was a mistake. Fer says that someone else assumed Luis’ responsibilities and had Luis done so, her life certainly would have been different—and she’s glad he didn’t. Luis reflects some, yes, she would have been a lady of means (de bien—bien also means good). Fer smirks, better say, bad (bien mala—really bad; play on the word bien).
Luis changes the direction of the conversation. He wants an opportunity with her. Fer says she doesn’t have to. In fact, she’d like to rip off her skin and get rid of all the blood she shares with him. It was Pedro who was there for her in every way. Luis tries to call her hija. She says he’d better not dare call her daughter. For him, she’ll always be the swindler. For Pedro, she’ll always be his daughter. She has all she needs, the love of her father and the love of the man she loves. Luis is only the man who abandoned her mother. He’s nobody to her. She asks him to leave. Tearfully, he does.
Carlos and Marissa are having breakfast on the patio. She can tell something is bothering him. He tells her little by little about Luis getting a woman pregnant 20 years ago and abandoning her and the baby she was carrying in order to marry Marissa. She can’t believe it. Marissa wants to know who the woman was. It was Amelia—and Luis’ daughter is Fernanda. Cara de impactada de Marissa.
Luis has dried his tears and is venting his rage to a very bored and inattentive Isabela. He can’t believe the girl would choose a poor good-for-nothing over himself. In the middle of his rant there is a knock at the door. It’s the police. He freezes. They have arrived with a warrant to search for some missing bank documents. Luis tries to pull the “home is a man’s castle” gambit, but it doesn’t work, the official has an order signed by a judge. Luis looks on in dismay as the officer orders his men to start searching.
Carlos finds Fer in the meadow, disconsolate and crying. He says she doesn’t need to be crying. Life made a mistake putting Luis in her life, but rectified it by putting Pedro Perez in his place. Consider his own situation. Life gave him a good father, then put Luis Montero in his place. Carlos had to put up with him all his life and he didn’t pick Luis. Fer, on the other hand, can pick not to have Luis in her life. He says she already has a wonderful family and is at the point of forming another family with him. Fer turns to him, after listening intently, and tells him what she’s dealing with has nothing to do with Carlos or their happiness. She will be happy with him and will be his wife. And if she finds out tomorrow that Mariana is her mother, it won’t change anything. Carlos tells her he loves her, while he strokes her cheek. Then he brings her face close to him and kisses her on the forehead. Fade Out
I'm glad the blinders are off from Marissa regarding Luis. It was interesting that she brought up her ego in regards to Luis and her refusal to see him for what he was. That's exactly what my mamita has complained about, Marissa was too much of a I-know-better than everyone else about Luis. It came back to bite her hard. I hope she gets some back bone now and puts the screws to that low life.
I was happy to see Leo back, but when will we see Clarita's husband again? Lupes son..forget his name.
So Cami is so poor she can't eat but can keep that two-tone biker hair going and buy her makeup. Right.
Issy is an idiot. She didn't hear one word Carlos said through all that hair.
Looking forward to tomorrow's ep!
In spite of all the angst, hurt and anger "two-toned fellow swindler-in-cahoots" had me smiling away.
"Fer turns it back on Pedro, thinking sadly how he must have suffered all this time, knowing, and being alone". What a kind heart to utter those words that must have been soothing balm to Pedro's aching heart. She also had compassion and love for Amelia and not a whit of blame.
"He wants an opportunity with her. Fer says she doesn’t have to. In fact, she’d like to rip off her skin and get rid of all the blood she shares with him". Now THAT'S the Fernanda I was hoping to see! And I loved that she wasn't cruel but expressed her revulsion so clearly and honestly.
"Marissa protests that if they do, they could lose everything. Carlos says her life and health is worth losing it all". Was there ever a more devoted son? God bless him.
"Carlos tells her he loves her, while he strokes her cheek. Then he brings her face close to him and kisses her on the forehead. Fade Out". One of the most endearing couples. Ever.
There appears to be hope for Hernan. It was sad to see she and Fernanda, the two cousins in their solitary walks as they licked their wounds, their sadness palpable and real.
I will miss tonight's episode so look forward to reading the recap.
Anita, there is little left to say as you said it all so very well. Thank you.
Diana
When Amelia said her actions had torn the lives apart of so many that she loved, is she including Pedro? I hope so. That embrace he gave her seemed filled with promise.
In this episode, Pedro seemed to emerge as a granite barrier to all the evil that is threatening those he loves, in contrast to the petty, controlling man we had seen before. Quite a transition, and you described it so well.
Poor wounded Fer. Can you imagine how this knowledge of her lineage must have cut her to the core? I'm sure that her discomfiture isn't completely over, but she recovered enough to stand up to Luis with steely resolve. She is like a champagne cork falling over Niagara Falls; she just bobs back up to the surface.
Poor troubled Camila. Perhaps taking a bus out of town is her best course. Although Hernan seems to be trying to reach out to her, how could this possibly succeed with evil Mariana lurking in the background?
So if Solorsano has access to enough money as to be able to offer Leo 2 million USD, then maybe Luis didn't squander it all on wine, women and song. Perhaps there is a legal route for Marissa et al to recover these funds and make the bank solvent again.
Thank you so much for this, Anita. Super job, as always.
David
Delilah, I thought the same thing about Camilla. I was like, for someone on the street she has managed to keep her makeup pretty flawless and a bus ticket to boot!
My favorite part was Carlos telling Fer that she had lemons and life turned it into lemonade, while he had lemonade and life threw dirty fish water into it. If ever a reason to stop wallowing in self pity. You could have had to grow up with that jerk.
When Fer said if she found out Mariana was her real mother - I almost choked. What an absolute nightmare that would have been. It makes you wonder what in the world is coming when they are now together, 20 plus shows remaining, what's left that we 'really' care about? I know there is the inheritance, the possible bankruptcy, and probably a wedding, but what? You would think they'd tie up those in the last couple of shows. So it makes me wonder that's all. Pedro and Amelia - bleh don't care! Mariana, Luis, and Solórzano in jail or whatever OK! Isy watching Carlos marry Fer - alright, that makes me smile! So what's next? I mean REALLY care about not the side stories.
David--I seem to recall Solorsano and Luis gloating over all the money they had embezzled and stashed in off-shore accounts. That will make it harder for Marissa to recoup, but surely good will win out in the end (or as I speculated, to save the bank, that's where some of Fer's inheritance might go).
This Camino hasn't reached its destination yet, folks. We have Luis and Izzy plotting to get back at Fer. More suffering, I expect. The boda may not be until Epi #125 after all.
I agree, Delilah, there's been too much Pedro, throughout, although we'd all had enough of Amelia after the first dozen or so episodes. But Pedro is the reason the original novela is called "The Daughter of the Gardener" and not "The Daughter of the Quesadilla Stand Proprietor."
Clarita's husband is Cesar or Cesarin. I wish they had mentioned him somewhere. Surely Lupe or Marissa could have brought it into a conversation. I would really like to know how he's doing. Did he ever make it across the border...it's been two years now and what, not a single word? There are commercials all saying how easy it is to call anywhere in Central & South America and the ability to send money at the press of a button. I hope he's grown back his beard.
For a guy in prison, Leo is looking pretty good, no?
I definitely snorted and whatever I would have been drinking would have come out of my nose and all over my laptop (and I'm working from home today so it would have been my work computer) OMG! the Quesadilla Stand Proprietor...I'm still laughing.
In part 3, you described how Fer told Luis "How will she ever forget the two years she spent in prison at his hands, for something she didn’t do." I don't know how she can keep using the "for something she didn't do" excuse. She swindled him, plain and simple. She took the money, and she spent it on clothes and a graduation trip.
Pedro knew she couldn't have paid for those things, but he chose to look the other way. And Carlos was her accomplice. He knew she wasn't injured and he lied about it to get back at Luis.
Of course there are degrees of wrongdoing, and Luis's paying off the judge to give Fer a harsh sentence is far worse than Fer's actual crime. But she's not completely innocent.
That said, Luis also charged her with abuse of the elderly by not giving him the right medication and letting him wander away (I can't remember where he went now--it wasn't the time he went to the hospital and gave blood for Fer or when he got lost going to see Luis. It seems there was another occasion, too.)
So it was multiple crimes she was being accused of. Ten years in prison seems a little lengthy though, for a youthful, 1st time offender.
If anyone should have been charged as an accomplice besides Camila, it should have been Felipe. He's the one that urged her into the lawsuit telling her it was no big thing. He just didn't know who--or what--Luis was. Carlos went along with Felipe, but he said he was not going to attest (in his report) of anything that would prejudice his career. So he minimized the nature of her injuries.
The first judge believed the evidence. So there we are, or were.
Cami talk her in to swindling bio pa
Out of a good bit of money. And her
Lawyer pal helped. And she took it.
Happily. So she is not without blame. Tho pa louy did dress up the
Charges maybe its like some folks say, the universe didn't let her get
Away with it. Hence the two year stint in the clink. Which means the
Universe coming after pa louy next.
But they may not let her own up to
That wrong doing. Nope, not in the
Script. Of course his crime is way
Worst.
We join our sweet couple in the meadow as Carlos is comforting his devastated fiancé who has just learned that the man who has caused her the most hurt is her bio father, Luis Montero. Fer assures Carlos that her mother has no culpability in how things turned out between her mother and Luis. Luis never wanted her or her mother prior to marrying Marissa.
Marissa who is draped in a pair of her curtains walks alongside her estate with Pedro, she expresses her shock at what she’s discovered. Luis is Fernanda’s father! She now understands why Pedro was so protective of Fernanda being near Carlos and by association Luis. Yes, he wanted to protect her from the pain she is suffering now. Well the truth always comes out, Marissa says.
Despite everything, Carlos is just glad Fer was born at all because without her his world would be incomplete. He has to thank Luis Montero for that. Fer says the mistakes her father made are what brought them together. Still she wants things to be different for Pedrito. He’ll know that Paquito is his adopted brother, that she and Carlos are his parents and that they all love each other very much. Carlos teases her about the lie that Javier is Pedrito’s father and her husband. No more of that! No more. We’re going to raise our son in a world full of love. F: I love you C: I love you very much…very much. Sweet kisses are exchanged *melt*
How is Fernanda? Marissa enquires. She’s bad, broken into a million pieces, crushed like a flower. The good thing is that Carlos is by her side and will give her all the love and support she needs. He could have been by her side in prison too dim bulb Pedro. Whatever…better late than never.
Ordonez along with the authorities searches Izzy’s house. Cushions have been tossed. “It’s one thing to do your job and another to behave like animals. You have no right!” Ordonez swaggers “I have all the right that the law gives me” Grrrr….sexy! He wants those “papeles” that the “sinverguenzas” stole from the bank!” Mentiroso Montero is not having it. One day Ordonez you’re going to be alone and we’ll settle this. Yeah Yeah..I’m glad I’ve got the law here to witness me giving you this. Montero sees it’s the damn divorce papers again! I’m not signing nuthin! He snaps. Ordonez looking bored, Oh stop acting like a brat, you already ripped them up once in front of Marissa, but there are plenty of copies just like that one. Well, I’m going to counter sue for adultery and leave her in the streets and she should get a new attorney because you’re lousy. Now beat it! Ordonez and his posse make tracks as Izzy hand on hip wonders who’ll straighten the cushions. Luis fumes. The walls are closing in!
Carlos and Fer join Pedro and Marissa in the house. Marissa is ecstatic to learn about the engagement and wants all the deets. Fer says it will be sometime after Don Fer’s remembrance Fiesta. She will have some bridesmaids Lucero, Adelina and …Camila. WTF? Fer that’s pushing the forgiveness and by my recollection you haven't seen Lucero in three years. She's padlocked up and is Adelina even alive? Where is she? Anyway, Congratulations to the happy couple from Pedro and a happy abuela Marissa gets to hold her grandson and exchange hugs and kisses.
Luis fumes over the rejection of his daughter. He wanted to do things right but she humiliated him. Then there’s Carlos who thinks he’s superior. Well he’s going to show everyone that he’s not destroyed just yet. So what’s your plan? Izzy asks . Oh you mean “Our” plan because this one needs an accomplice and that’s you. Izzy says well I’m not doing squat for your daughter. Luis assures her that this is about the gardener. What’s your beef with him? That man usurped me! Luis is pissed. Pedro had the nerved to raise his daughter, give her love, shelter and good manners. How dare Pedro got in between him and his daughter (for all the years he didn’t want her} That’s unforgivable!
Ordonez begs apologies for interrupting the reunion and notices that Carlos is tense and agitated. What gives? Carlos is fed up with the constant theme of Luis Montero. Yeah aren’t we all? Ordonez informs them that Lousey won’t sign divorce papers and he’s certain that the scum bag has already drawn up papers counter suing Marissa for adultery. She laughs at her husband’s idiocy. Carlos is ready to go after him immediately for his shady bank business.
Luis lays out his plan. Fer may not see him as her father but she’ll want to help him. He needs her to bank roll him. Izzy wants to know with what money? Oh you didn’t know? Well my girl is the heiress to Don Fernan-dough! Cha-ching! Louse eyes literally roll like a slot machine to dollar signs as he goes on to explain the whole thing is in litigation due to Mariana but he’ll testify that the will is the real deal and get his hands on that dough. Izzy can't catch a break. The school girl not only has better hair but she has more money too!
Ordonez explains about the missing papers, they need them to prove his fraud of the bank. Ok well what about Leo, he already testified to Louse trying to murder my mom. Marissa things they should get Izzy to help (How did this woman run a bank?) but Carlos says oh hell naw…leave that broad out of this. Besides, she knew everything and did nothing. Ordonez agrees he just found Luis at her apartment and he thinks she's team Luis!
Lucero still stuck in the apartment years later finally realizes she’s got to help herself. She’s got to keep a cool head and act without fear. She gets a screwdriver from a tool box. Her mom is looking for her and she’s got to find a way out. The tool is useless and she begins pounding on the door. “Someone please hear me, I’m locked up!” Does no one live in that building? What about windows?
Meanwhile dawg Diego has lured his next victim in. The red head who he’s spent the day sight seeing with, admits her juvenile attraction. Do you like me? Circle yes or no. Creepo feeds her the same lines of bull he fed Lucero. Of course I do, let's go steady!
Fer and Carlos are on their way out from Marissa’s when Pedro is struck by memories of recent times with Amelia. Suddenly she rings looking for Fernanda. It seems Luis is on the prowl for his daughter.
Hernan speaks to a detective. He’ll deposit the money just find his daughter. Meanie comes in nagging…but Hernan doesn’t want to hear it. He’s not feeling well and he cant find his daughter. Whatever…leave her be and give me some money for the attorney so I can fight that will. Hernan gives a firm "no" grimacing as his chest pains increase. He can’t get over how persistent his wife is over that issue and he’s not giving her one cent for it. He grabs at his chest and heads toward the chair. She asks if he’s fine. Do I look fine?
Paquito enters excited from school expecting to see Pedro, Fer and Pedrito. Clarita told him they were there. Marissa says nope, they left. Pacquito is exasperated. He’s yet to meet his baby brother and he wonders why? Marissa wonders if he’s jealous. No, but my Dad says I’m his son and he’s not acting like a Dad right now. Marissa embraces him as his imagination gets away from him. He’s in space like fencing suit screaming for his brother whom he’s yet to see. “Pedrito! Little brother!” Why he wouldn’t even be Pedrito anymore that’s how long it’s been that he's been looking for him! He wouldn’t know him as he’s never seen him. He wonders if they’ve all just left him. He snaps back to reality.. Marissa assures him they’ve just been busy with problems and other things. But Pedro says how can he be Pedrito’s brother when he’s never even met him? Does that even make sense? Marissa says you got a point. `
Hernan and his red zip up turtleneck continue to argue with Mariana over the money. He’s going to use some to find his daughter. Amelia comes in and notices that Hernan is having pains. She suggests he see Carlos and this riles up Mariana even more. She doesn’t trust Amelia and begins ranting about this now. Hernan becomes more frustrated with his wife.
Lucero is still banging on the door. She’s yelling and screaming. “Hear me please..someone. anyone…I don’t want to be locked up anymore!”
Carlos thinks Hernan needs to have some tests run. It looks like early signs of an impending heart attack. But for now he’ll give him a prescription. Hernan seems to think with everything going on he’d just be best to die. Fer knows what ails him. Her name is Camila. Hernan wants nothing to do with discussing his daughter and especially not with Fer. Talk to the hand missy! Eventually guilt and anguish get the better of him and he unloads on Fer. It’s killing him not knowing where his Cami is and he blames himself for everything. He has to go look for her. You can't blame yourself, shes an adult. Well I'm the parent and one day you’ll understand when you lose your boy. Fer doesn’t think he should speak of such a thing. Oh you can’t imagine something like that might happen? *Foreshadowing?* Fer offers to go with him, but Hernan doesn’t think he can put up with Fer. Well tough. She schools him on how it’s going to be. This ain’t Mariana Hernan.. Fer don’t play!
Creepy Diego plays Red like a violin. He says all the right things about how unworthy he is of such a wonderful girl. He’s never met anyone like her..blah blah blah. She falls under his evil eerie spell. No one has ever spoken to her this way. He knows how to treat a woman. Even if she isn’t one yet. (Yeah by locking her up!) He lays his smarmy married lips on her innocent and eager ones. Right then Lucero’s mom spots them and she wastes no time in marching over. So this is how you show your love for my daughter, you sorry good for nothing! Ay ay ay! Busted boo!
Hernan is annoyed as all get out. Fer was supposed to go her way and he would go his on the Cami scavenger hunt but she’s right there bugging him and instructing him on where to put the fliers. He swats her away as he heads off in another direction agreeing to meet back at this very spot later. He continues muttering to himself as he staggers off in search of his two toned tantrum throwing toddler. The whole thing is amusing and I realize that all Hernan ever needed was a dude to hang out with him. Someone he could toss back a tequila with. It appears women always seem to dominate him. Meanie, Cami and now Fer.
Carlos reads Mariana on being a rude woman. She needs to learn to respect Fernanda her niece and she better watch herself with Hernan because from what he just saw of his new patient the man could die at any moment. Then Meanie will really be alone. He warns her that there’s nothing worse than that.
Hernan’s chest pains increase and he staggers towards an unaware Fer who is showing fliers to anyone who walks by. Hernan realizes that there’s no doubt how much Fer cares for his daughter. No matter how much he hates to admit it. He crumbles under the painful realization or is it guilt that causes his pains?
Lucero’s mom tries to warn the girl that Diego is married to her daughter. The red head asks if this is true, but Diego brushes it off as a misunderstanding. Red tells Lucero’s mom to butt out of her life and she takes Diego by the hand and leads him away. Lucero’s mom hollers for creepy Prof to tell her where her daughter is. What did you do with my daughter?
Fer and Hernan strike out. No one has seen Camilla DeVille. Hernan is distraught. Without his daughter he doesn’t want to live. Fer suggest they rest but he insists they keep going. Cami has to have gone to another town.
MariKleptobelle and Pedro stand in his kitchen chatting about Pedrito when there is a knock at the door. Pedro opens the door to have Luis putting him in a choke against the wall. “I’m going to kill you!”
It’s dark now and still no sign of Cami, Fer thinks it’s reckless to continue on in Hernan’s condition. Reckless would be not continuing to look for her. They drive on.
Carlos comes in just in time to break up Luis and Pedro. Luis vows to win back his daughter. HIS daughter! They toss Louse out. Carlos can’t believe Luis..that guy has no limits. This is what Pedro was afraid of and now Luis wants his daughter. No Carlos is sure it’s something else. Pedro says he knows because he’s a father and the way he loves Fer is how Luis now feels. Luis is jealous and threatened by Pedro's relationship with Fer. The intense hate Luis had for Fer has now turned to intense love, because she’s his daughter.
We see two trucks headed for an impact, a scream and they both swerve. Right then Meanie who never feels anything suddenly senses trouble for her husband. Clad in polka dot jammies, she bolts upright in bed worried for Hernan who isn't home yet. Hernan is her husband, her accomplice in everything. The man who has been by her side. The one she vowed in marriage. She gets teary and it seems her heart begins to thaw in that icy chest. Miles away Fer and Hernan exit the truck to check things,as Meanie breaks down in her loneliness, thinking of how her father left her. The pain he caused her is not to blame for the path she chose. Perhaps it’s too late but she wishes she could see her father one more time.
Fer lectures Hernan. Her friend needs her father alive and sane. What just happened was stupid. He agrees and they head home.
Suddenly Luis barges into Meanie's room. Does this guy have a key or what? He demands she drop that litigation and give him back the will. He’s not going to let her rob his daughter. Well she’s not giving her niece anything. She finally realizes that he wants Fer to give him money. Ha! Fat chance of that. He threatens to come after her if she doesn’t back down. She seems bewildered by the whole thing. Me too cause what if Hernan had been in bed with her?
Pedro tells Carlos he's prepared to protect Fer with his life. Carlos says well tomorrow Luis finds out in the worst way that justice still exists. He wants to tell Fer, where is she?
Meanwhile Fer and Hernan who had some sort of damage to the truck (tire?) have been walking for awhile. All Fer wants is some water. All Hernan wants is for Fer to stop talking. Well if I stopped talking you would have fallen asleep back in the truck. He refers to her boyfriend Carlos as the “chico maravilloso” aka Wonderful guy. Just then headlights are seen coming toward them and out hops Chico Maravilloso! Fer runs toward her hero Carlos and he scoops her up into a kiss.
Fin
I think that with the symptoms Hernan is displaying, if he were in the U.S., he would get a cardiac catheterization. I don't think that anyone in this country would screw around with pills and advice to get some rest and reduce your worry load.
So Pedro has turned the corner and turned his obsessive, over protective love for Fer into something that is healthy and able to be shared with the man of her life, Carlos. But then he makes the mistake of thinking that Luis shares those same feelings toward Fer, when Luis is only seeing dollar signs.
Mariana is developing a rudimentary conscious?
After a few hours of descending into a funk over having Luis as her bio dad, Fer has once again popped back to the surface with her bubbly attitude. I love this character, and Paulina plays the role so well.
Diego. You are a bad boy. After the confrontation with Lucero's mom, I couldn't believe that Red walked off arm in arm with Diego. (I thought your phrase, "Creepy Diego plays Red like a violin" was funny considering Fer's favorite instrument.)
Regarding Luis barging into Mariana's bedroom: "She seems bewildered by the whole thing. Me too cause what if Hernan had been in bed with her?" I think that scene is meant to illustrate that, if we hadn't already figured it out, Luis sees no boundary of any sort. He does what he wants, when he wants, and to hell with laws, societal norms or morality.
Carlos is becoming the perfect galan at last. He didn't mess up at all last night.
I feel for Paquito. He didn't sign up for this. I'm sure it will all work itself out, and Marissa did a good job of comforting him, but he has been kind of hung out to dry recently.
Thank you so much for this, Delilah. Simply great, as always.

"He lays his smarmy married lips on her innocent and eager ones", "Cami scavenger hunt", "Busted boo!" and "MariKleptobelle" were among my favorites.
Carlos and Fenanda have always been in love. Despite the misunderstandings, the secrets and the trying circumstances, that has never waivered. Fernanda didn't do the clichéd thing by letting Jav "comfort" her and settling for someone she knew she would never love. While it took Carlos seemingly forever to banish Issy from his life, at least he has finally put her in her place. Whether or not she will stay there is another matter.
I did have to smile though at Fernanda with Hernan. Here you have this kind, sensitive, observant young woman who can sense hurt and fear a mile away, either failing to notice or ignoring the fact her "uncle" is in terrible physical condition, combing the countryside for his daughter rather than being in the hospital where he should be! Admittedly, for the first time, I kind of doubted Carlos' prowess as a physician. I like Hernan stayed true to character in that he did not welcome Fernanda's assistance with open arms. He seems to be the first character immune to our dear sprite's charm and kindness.
"She gets teary and it seems her heart begins to thaw in that icy chest". You give her credit Delilah! I didn't even think she had a heart! ;) In Hernan's speech to Mariana the other day, it might have seemed as though he does have feelings for her. I can't for the life of me fathom why but she is so terrible, she is fortunate that he does.
"Lucero, Adelina and …Camila". Yes. Fernanda and her closest friends have gone their separate ways but all are in crisis. Lucero as a prisoner, Camila as an outcast and vagabond and Adelina (?) Well as you noted Delilah, "is Adelina even alive?" We don't know where or how she is so must count her among the missing.
Pedro's fierce protective father mode is now coming from the right place and pointed in the right direction (Luis vs. Carlos). I liked his smiling recollections of a few quiet moments he and Amelia shared. I have hope for this couple.
I enjoyed the writers gently rebuking these normally thoughtful characters that Pacquito has been ignored and is understandably, hurt and left out. No one here is perfect. Pretty darn close but not quite...
"(I thought your phrase, "Creepy Diego plays Red like a violin" was funny considering Fer's favorite instrument.)" Delilah, that was a great phrase. But I didn't get the total cleverness of that comment until you pointed that out David. (You never miss a thing)...
I'm also wondering why Maribel is still hanging around. Have we seen the last of Malquerida? I certainly hope not...
Thanks again Delilah!

I would probably have glossed over the Lucero break-down, the professor and the bobbysoxer and laughed at all the time they spent on Fer and Hermy's scavenger hunt. (Loved that one) Thank goodness you did the recap for us to enjoy all of it.
BTW, it was interesting that Hermy just happened to have a photo of two-toned Cami. What if she changed back to one-tone?) Anyway, you gave it the right emphasis. OTOH, I did think it was rather reckless of Fer to play around with Hermy's symptoms and she was in the room when Carlos gave his medical opinion.
Maybe Carlos didn't stress the seriousness enough--he certainly did with Mariana. And what about his medication, did they stop at the local CVS before they started out?
That little boy that is playing Pedrito is a born natural. He obviously likes people and engages with them and participates. I remember how painful it was watching Lucero in Alborada trying to bond with "her" little boy and poor thing all he wanted to do was get away from her. Then I went on to recall the 3 nuns that came with the three little girls in FELS to keep them in order and none of the little girls liked Adela very much.
If Luis wasn't already in the smelly, slimy bottom of a port-a-potty in the hot summer sun at an outdoor rock concert, I'd have to put him there now. How much lower can he go? So, he was humiliated and rejected by his own flesh and blood--which is all of him that's in her (except maybe her feistiness), he's going to devise a plan to hurt her through her father--and by extension, probably her child.
I might have pity on him for an instant, wipe his face and give him a drink of water because he was truly sad to find out Marissa couldn't have any children (on their business/law school honeymoon in Spain). Only he and Marissa know what a disappointment that was to him, but he decided to stay with her because the money smelled better than smelly diapers.
Delilah, here are most of my favorites:
"Marissa who is draped in a pair of her curtains" Who can't think of Carol Burnett here, eh?
"He could have been by her side in prison too dim bulb Pedro. Whatever…better late than never."
"Ordonez and his posse make tracks as Izzy hand on hip wonders who’ll straighten the cushions."
"Well my girl is the heiress to Don Fernan-dough! Cha-ching! Louse eyes literally roll like a slot machine to dollar signs..."
"Izzy can't catch a break. The school girl not only has better hair but she has more money too!"
"Do you like me? Circle yes or no." Unfortunately I might circle *yes* to Arturo Carmona even now.
"Oh you can’t imagine something like that might happen? *Foreshadowing?*" I don't think they can do a *Foreshadowing* any better than that, but this is the most foreboding place to put *Foreshadowing.* If they find Camila and the girls make their peace, I bet Hermy will be on Team Fer if the *Foreshadowing* happens to involve Pedrito.
"No one has seen Camilla DeVille."
Loved: MariKleptobelle and Chico Maravilloso, too and I could go on, but it's Saturday afternoon and I have to get to the grocery store for anything that will be cool and satifying going down. STAY COOL EVERYONE.
Marissa, Im with you Del, with her brains she ran banks for years. How? the lady ain't to bright. She wants dizzy izzy to Help them against luis. Bless carlos, hes there for his poor dumb moma. she'd be dead by now if it wasn't for Carlos protecting her against that jackass she married.
And what the hell is up with dizzy izzy? What is she hopin to get out of sideing with braindead. Carlos don't want that ho. When is she gonna get a clue? She needs to take what she got and live her life before she looses everything. There Is nothing in this scenario where she ends up with Carlos. No!
Lucero, poor baby. Shes just now deciding she needs to make a brake for it? Its been 3 years. Has her brian cells been on vacation locked up in that apartment? This tn is full of brain dead people. The only smart ones in the whole lot is paco and his sweet baby bro pedrito.
I hope herny don't die before cami comes back. And I hope the she gets out of that cruella de ville daze shes in.
Mariana......go see a shrink.
Thank you Delilah. Good Recap. Happy saturday yall :-D

I still scratch my head why Pedrito was ever saved from the corrugated box by the railroad tracks. Not that he didn't deserve it but he is like a christmas toy ripped from it box, played with for a minute and banished to the isle of misfit toys.
It's Paquito, but the rest is true. At least he can take a bath, eat well, go to school, hug a grandmother and complain to a father about how unfair he's been to Paquito lately.
I've been wondering myself why he has been part of this story. He's too young to replace Rosario as Carlos' sounding board and Carlos was too busy for him anyway.
His presence certainly didn't change Carlos in any way and Fernanda would have welcomed every urchin in the woods to share her cabana. The best thing he did was his fantasy of a future life as an old man still in the home for wayward children.
Quite a few characters here that have been thrown in and then disappear. Whatever happened to the bad girls, like Isabela's sister?
Or the weirdness of Maribel's crush on Javier and didn't she have kids or have I confused her with another show's jailhouse roommate?
