Yago #43, Wednesday July 27, 2016: Lies or Consequences
- Hernan tells Melina he is collecting for the orphanage, but she turns him away. Later, Melina feels badly and contacts the orphanage, then calls him personally.
- Katia and Teo agree to give the relationship a try. They want to keep it a secret, but Katia tells Julia, and Yago quickly finds out too. Yago is okay with it, but they don't think Fidel would be so understanding.
- Camilo and Yago face off (over cards) at the casino. Yago proposes that instead of betting boring money, they should each write down their biggest secret. Yago's secret is "I am Omar." Camilo's secret is "I killed Ambar." However, neither secret is ever revealed.
- Fidel is convinced that Tom Vargas will switch teams if he's offered more money.
- Abel meets Tom Vargas, who quickly earns Abel's profound contempt.
- Sara makes a deal with Camilo that she'll move out of Lucio's house to get a place of her own with Mati, and she'll pay Camilo back. Lucio, however, has already told Mati that they'll be a "family" forever. He dares Sara to tell Mati otherwise. It appears that she chickens out.
- At the Ambar bar grand opening, Yago works hard to shake Becker's confidence in Camilo. And, Abel makes friends with Julia. He also makes a big scene and loudly accuses Yago of killing Ambar. He's drunk, so Julia offers to drive him home on his motorcycle. (The bar patrons will have to pour their own drinks!)
- Yago is upset to be blamed (again) for something he didn't do - in this case, Ambar's murder. He tries to explain himself to Sara. When that doesn't work, he says he loves her and tries to kiss her. This earns him a slap. She plays the recorded phone call that makes him sound guilty. They argue about Ambar's murder. Mati overhears.
The blow-by blow:
We begin, as always, with a flashback. Sara and Omar are playing a little game. Each player makes three statements, and the other has to guess which of the three is false. If the guess is right, the first player must remove an item of clothing. Sara guesses right, and Omar has to take off his pants. Now it's Sara's turn: she says she doesn't have a pet; she does have a little sister, and Omar is the only man she's ever loved in her life. Omar guesses that Sara doesn't really have a little sister. Sara says he's right, and she takes off her jacket.
(So... does this mean she had a pet? Or...)
In the present, Sara tells us: "I always thought I was the best liar. But every liar eventually meets an even better liar."
Hernan tells Melina he is collecting for the orphanage, but something about him makes her nervous. She tries to turn him away, but he's pushy. When she tries to close the door on him, he takes out a gun, not that she can see it. But he quickly hides the gun when Bruno shows up. Temporarily defeated, Hernan leaves.
At the casino, Yago tries to convince Sara that he didn't kill Ambar. She's not buying it - she has proof that he did. Eventually, Camilo intervenes to break up their little lovers' quarrel.
Abel, who has been drinking a lot lately, tells Lucio (who has also been drinking a lot) not to trust Sara.
Becker tells Camilo he'd like to review all of the property deeds before he signs on the dotted line. Camilo tosses this menial task to Tomas.
Katia surprises Teo with a little indoor picnic of wine (for him) and strawberries. She wants to give this relationship a chance. They have to keep it a secret, though. Except Julia already knows.
At the big poker competition, Camilo plays against Yago. Yago wants to make things interesting: they will each write down their biggest secret. That will be their bet. Yago's secret is "I am Omar Guerrero." Camilo's secret is "I killed Ambar." Yago taunts Camilo: "What would happen if Sara knew your secret? Are you sure you have the winning hand?" Camilo considers, then burns both of the secrets without reading them. "I can see you have more to lose than to win," Yago observes. Yago tells Sara that he has nothing to hide.
Bruno's not going to school. He tells his mother that his class was cancelled because the professor quit! Melina seems skeptical, but is distracted by Jonas. She tells him about Hernan from the orphanage. She had a bad feeling about him, but now she regrets the way she treated him. She wants to call the orphanage.
Camilo comforts Sara about her confrontation with Yago. He flatters her, and they hug. Lucio sees and seethes.
Tomas is trying to soothe Becker's worries about the potential investment. Becker sees Yago and compliments him on his daring and creative bet. He confides to Yago that he has some reservations about the deal with Camilo. Yago invites him to the bar's grand opening, so that Becker can see for himself why Camilo's project will be delayed indefinitely.
Fidel is attempting to grill a ton of food. Seriously, is all that meat for just two people? It's not going well. He tells Selma he's impatient to hear from Yago. He feels so helpless, having to wait so long for this plan with the bar to come to fruition. Selma reminds him that revenge (much like Fidel's poorly grilled food, she doesn't say out loud), is best served cold.
In the bedroom, Sara tells Lucio the "news" that Yago and Fidel killed Ambar. Jealous, possessive Lucio doesn't want Sara to go anywhere alone. Sara scoffs; she doesn't need guards. She kicks him out of the bedroom; she has to get up early tomorrow for a meeting!
Yago updates Fidel and the rest of the team on the day's events. Becker is having doubts about Camilo. Yago also mentions that he's seen signs of tension between Tomas and Camilo. Maybe Yago can drive an even bigger wedge between them. Teo isn't sure; after all, Tomas has worked for Camilo for years. But Fidel says guys like Tomas only care about pride and money. Yago's confident that they can get Tom to come to their side.
Yago tells Katia he doesn't want to be blamed for Ambar's death. He doesn't want to end up like Omar, paying for someone else's misdeeds.
Next day:
Julia asks Katia how it went with Teo. Katia says it went great, but asks Julia to keep it a secret. Julia asks Katia who Becker is.
Sara meets with Camilo. She suggests that they tinker with the odds for some of their bigger gamblers to win a little more. Camilo hates to let the house "lose," even a little, but he likes her plan. Camilo asks her if she's happy in her house. She admits that Lucio wasn't easy to live with even when they were married. However, she has nowhere else to go. Camilo offers to get her a house and let her pay him back later. (She should really nail down the exact terms before she agrees to anything!)
Melina discusses Hernan with a nun from the orphanage. The nun says Hernan was a quiet, lonely boy, a little odd but a good person. Now he's helping the orphanage. Melina wants to get in touch with him so that she can make her donation to him personally.
Yago sees Katia and Teo making out, and calls attention to Katia's lipstick on Teo's face. Yago tells Katia that she deserves to be happy. Later, Katia tells Teo that Yago knows, but Teo feels that Fidel might not be so understanding.
Tom is at Abel's house, briefing Abel on his "mission" to befriend Julia. Tom refers to Julia's "little friend." "AMBAR," Abel corrects him. "Ambar, Gema, Rubi, whatever," Tomas jokes dismissively and leaves Abel's place. After Tom leaves, Abel spits in his general direction.
Lucio rudely busts up Sara's meeting with Camilo. Sara privately berates him for his rudeness; this job is important to her. Lucio insists that Camilo is only trying to bed her. Sara says she won't deny him custody of Mati, so what's the big deal? They shouldn't fill his head with fantasies of a happy family.
At the bar, Yago tells Becker: "Mine's bigger than Camilo's." His development plan for this area, that is. Becker is angry to hear that Camilo has known of Yago's plans all along and never said anything about it. (Katia takes a photo of them together - which will surely give Camilo a thrombosis when he sees it in the newspaper tomorrow.)
Mati finds Lucio playing with the wedding rings. Lucio says they'll soon be together as a family, this time forever. (If "forever" means "till death us do part," then probably it won't be an uncomfortably long time.) Mati is pleased that there will be no more fighting. (Ha. Ha. Ha. Poor kid.)
Sara comes along, and Lucio dares her to tell Mati otherwise. He tells Mati that she has something to say. Mati wonders if he's going to have a little brother. Lucio leaves them, but Mati doesn't ask what's going on - he wants to show Sara his project. So, apparently, she doesn't tell him anything.
Abel, who appears to have been drinking for a while already, corners Julia at the bar, has a couple more drinks, talks about Ambar, compliments Julia on her bartending prowess, and flirts with her. Teo and Katia take notice. Abel begins to get loud, drunkenly announcing to Julia and everyone (including Becker) that Yago and Fidel are thugs and they killed Ambar. He has proof! Teo throws him out. Because Abel is drunk, Julia drives him home on his motorcycle. DEAR GOD, WHO IS POURING THE BEER??!
Flustered by Abel's outburst, Yago tells Sara he's going to clear his name. He goes to Sara's (Lucio's) house and pleads his case, yet again. She asks, why should she believe him? All he's done is hurt her. Yago replies, "Yes, I've wanted to hurt you. But I love you, too!" He kisses her. She struggles at first, then she appears to enjoy it for a moment, and then she pulls away and slaps him. (That's her MO. Protest, give in and enjoy, then protest again.) She says he's done her nothing but harm.
Mati overhears them arguing about Ambar's murder. Sara plays the "proof" for Yago to hear. He says it's obviously been edited, but she doesn't believe him. "I'm being framed, just like Omar was," he insists. "Don't you ever compare yourself to Omar!" Sara shouts. "Never again!" Mati has heard all of this.
Melina calls Hernan personally, apologizes to him, and invites him over to receive her donation.

Poor Mati, learning his tia didn't die on the operating table, but was instead murdered.
Looking forward to your full recap later!
I feel Julia will join forces with Camilo because Yago and Selma both said Julia can be trusted while Fidelity has his doubts. It is looking likely. I am surprised she helped Abel home when she just met him!
Many of us may not respond, but know that you are read and appreciated!!!
Thank you
Yago definitely loves Sara (and hates her too), and he can't stand for her to believe he killed her sister. I also believe his explanation that he can't stand for them to pull an Omar on him and blame him for a crime he didn't commit.
Julia was right next to Fidel when he and Yago were frantically planning how to get Ambar to a safe hospital, so if Abel plays the recording for her, she should realize that Camilo played Abel.
Thanks Julie for the bullet points!!!
I wish Yago didn't love Sara but I guess if he loves her, at least he has all of the info on her character.
Carvivile: I've already conceded that Julia will cave & go back to Daddy Michell! Right back to square 1!
Vivi: Yago is an IDIOT. Sara destroyed his life by letting him (when he was Omar) rot in prison for 12 years & got wealthy off of it.
Duchess: You can expect Daddy Michell & the B613 Alliance to continue winning until the Gran Final.
Melina calling Hernan & inviting him to her house. My reaction was: "NOOOOOO! Don't do it." because you're right & unless the producers pull another fast one with us, Melina will get whacked.
Cathyx: If I'm Teo & Katia, I'd get out of Mexico ASAP. Move to the Philippines & never look back!
FWIW, I don't think Hernan's mission right now is to kill Melina. Not right away. I think he's going to bug her house or her purse so that Camilo can find out why Yago is hanging around with this woman.
OK, I have two full pages of detailed notes. That's not so terribly much. Maybe an hour to type them up? More or less.
I am pretty excited that Abel could show Julia his "proof" of Yago's guilt and then she can debunk it. Thanks for giving me some hope, Vivi. :o)
Okay, NOW goodnight.
I love this TN partly because it so different from the usual story line that we get. I'm usually at least one day behind watching on Hulu which is also why I don't comment regularly, but I read here every day. If I didn't come to Caray for this feast of snark and wit, it would be like a day without coffee, wine, cocktails, pizza, ice cream, etc.....
Welcome Fcatsix - pull up a chair. This is a great group of patio peeps! :)
"Yes, I've wanted to hurt you. But I love you, too!" This is a story of sick obsession, not revenge.
Growing up my family had a dog (well my older brother did) but before the dog we had a tomcat. I can barely remember the cat except the day we no longer had a cat. Hearing growls and screams I press my nose to the screen door and see tomcat and another cat locked together, fur flying, rolling and bouncing, falling apart a second and resuming unaware of anything around them even as they rolled into the street. First car missed but the second didn't.
Tofie- Doesn't the drive for revenge require obsession? They seem to go hand in hand to me. By definition, you have to be obsessed with the person or people who did you wrong to set off on a path of revenge.
I think Sara is quite aware that accepting Camilo's generosity will come with strings attached. She's not naive. I think she has assessed the risk and decided it's worth it. But she doesn't want Mati to hate her, and Lucio has now made that even more difficult.
Thanks for this nifty recap of this rather bizarre episode.
"DEAR GOD, WHO IS POURING THE BEER??!"
I love your emphasis of what's truly important.
Nandicta,
Thanks for your excellent recaps of the last couple of episodes under near impossible odds. Amazing.
I smiled when Julia acknowledged that working as a bartender would help keep her hamster calm.
What exactly was the point of that weird game of cards? Sort of a cross between poker and truth or dare. Secrets? Yago already knows that Camilo killed Ámbar and I doubt that Camilo even knows about Omar and cares even less.
Did I hear right that Hernán will be working under Lucio? That should be fun. I thought that he is Tomás' pet. I was hoping to learn more about him. Does Tomás keep him on a chain in the backyard and loan him out? He helps out at the orphanage? Wow, maybe he's more complex than he seems.
Poor Julia, her hair is a fright.
Yago continues disgusting me and Abel still hasn't lit up that poor cigarette. I was so hoping that he'd fire it up amongst Camilo's beloved orchids.
Carlos
Vivi: Yago's revenge plan blowing up in his face before our eyes.
No happy ending on this show once it's over!
Yes, Camilo said (in the previous episode) that Hernan would be working for Lucio. Though for now it appears that Hernan is still reporting directly to Camilo, at least in terms of his gangster duties. Actually I can't tell if Camilo is giving Lucio any gangster work at all. Since Lucio is head of the casino, is Hernan supposed to be his assistant? Or head of security, maybe? He can't do that if he's going around collecting toys and clothes for the orphanage.
Once they've outlived their usefulness, he'll throw them away!
Yago/Omar can't get over his love for Sara, but I can't see them ever making it as a couple because he will never get over his resentment of her. Really crazy to try to kiss Sara in declaring his innocence of murdering her sister.
On Julia taking Abel home, I guess she figures he's okay since he's a longtime friend of Ambar.
Yago is making such a big mistake to not clue in Bruno. Remember how Bruno and Alejandra had the tape Lucio gave him tested and found out it had been faked?
Knowing how hotheaded Bruno is, I'm not so sure it's a good idea for Yago to tell him what's going on. This is a kid who busted up a major gangster's press conference. He will want to "help" Yago. Yago doesn't need any more vengeful cooks in his kitchen!
Mati finds Lucio playing with the wedding rings. Lucio says they'll soon be together as a family, this time forever. (If "forever" means "till death us do part," then probably it won't be an uncomfortably long time.)
Great observation. And sad too. Just always watch this with a feeling of doom. Reminds me of that strange character in Lil' Abner with the perpetual dark cloud over his head. That's me watching Yago. Come to think of it Omar reminds me a bit of Lil' Abner. Big, good-willed, naieve hunk. Yago is the scaled down tight and testy version.
Thanks for the recap Ms. Julie. Your job, your commute, what? a quick bite to eat and then hard at work on the recap. You rock Lady. Thanks.
