A Que No Me Dejas #3 - Karen the Residential Badass Aka. Episode 3 MVP!

  • Julieta keeps choking the life out of Paulina as Nuria watches on like it’s a boxing match. Karen grabs Julieta and pulls her off Paulina. As Chelo helps Paulina, Karen and Michaela kick Julieta (out instead of restraining her and calling the police) and go see if Paulina is okay. Paulina wants no one to know about the attack, as it will only add fuel to the fire. (The fire’s already been lit though, might as well stroke it when it matters).
  • Gonzalo tells Ines that Monica wanted a recommendation letter and Ines says he should rehire her (Oh Ines, if you only knew). Gonzalo doesn’t think it’s a good idea (I wonder if that’s why he let her go in the first place).
  • Elisa, Monica’s mom, wants Monica to tell everyone the truth. Monica thinks it’s a dumb idea since she’d be outed as a mistress and she’d lose Gonzalo. Monica, who has her head in the clouds, wants Gonzalo to leave his wife out of love for her but Elisa warns her not to end up like her (another juicy secret). Monica tells her she just wants Gonzalo, not his money.
  • Alfonso shows Camilo his new office in the financial department. He tells him he’ll introduce him to his co-worker, Leonel later as he’s out taking a class. (Fresh out of college and already the boss of someone who has been there for years? Camilo that spells trouble). They also talk about how him and Paulina graduated with honors and now they’ll be working together in adjacent offices, he can romance her again.
  • Karen, badass as she is, says they should call the cops if they see Julieta again. Everyone agrees and her and Paulina go to cover up the handprints on Paulina’s neck with makeup. (Side note: Paulina is too cute with Mauricio). In her bedroom, Paulina still wants to cover up the attacks but Karen suggests she at least tell Adrian because Julieta is a cuckoo clock (thank you!)
  • Gonzalo discusses the affair with Alfonso (these two are two peas in a pod). He suggests sending her away but Gonzalo thinks it’s stupid to have a mistress but keep her away (if your wives could hear you now). Gonzalo also tells Alfonso about leaving Jaime’s company and not paying him for the completed campaign. At this even Alfonso thinks it’s an a-hole move. Gonzalo decides he will pay them but also ruin their reputation to make sure they leave. Alfonso also thinks this is a horrible plan. (Listen to your best friends, guys; they seem to know what they’re talking about).
  • Jaime tries to get the contract back with the Murats and he hopes Adrian talking to Ines will help but he’s not sure. Jaime is mad and disappointed in Julieta (don’t try to get any help for her though, Jaime). Later, Jaime finds out he received payment for the completed campaign but has a lot another account (Gonzalo sure is quick).
  • Edgar runs to the mini bar and Nuria criticizes him for day drinking and staying in the house forever. Edgar says he’s staying indefinitely so she better get used to it. Nuria tells Ines to kick Edgar and Mauricio out but Ines tells her to take a hike. Nuria takes this opportunity to reiterate how her opinion doesn’t matter. Ines and Paulina go back to talking about Adrian and how she wants them both to speak to Gonzalo (I love how Paulina thinks a scarf in the middle of sunny weather is an inconspicuous way to cover up her hand prints…she was obviously the good child).
  • Karen, still the episode’s MVP, spills the beans to Adrian and Jaime about Julieta’s attack (thank you!).
  • Edgar is attacked but two thugs who he owes money to and tried to get out of it by running away. The leader gave him cocaine to sell and apparently he either threw it out or consumed it, either way, he has 24 hrs to get the money. Later, he barges into the office asking for Gonzalo. He asks for a 6-8 month advance from Alfonso who refuses and doesn’t back down despite Edgar’s threats.
  • Jaime and Gisela, his co-worker, discuss (in shock!) that Julieta attacked Paulina (these people are surprised?) Gisela offers to talk to her since their best friends. Jaime tells her his love for Julieta might be ending and Gisela smiles (Biggest smile ever).
  • Adrian moves out and Julieta has a freak out. She calls him “mi Corazon!” as he walks out the door. Later in Jaime’s office, Julieta is having a meltdown but she isn’t getting any sympathy from Jaime. Julieta blames Paulina for Adrian leaving her (not because she’s crazy). She’s taken care of him since they were young but Jaime argues that she did it out of love, not because she expected payment later.  Julieta says Adrian is all she has (not you know, a husband). Gisela walks in and tries to call her down but Julieta runs out.
  • Gonzalo visits Monica and his two! kids great him (I always wonder about people who have full blown affairs with kids and everything, how do you hide it for so long?) He bribes the kids with gifts but Monica is not happy. When the kids go out to play with Elisa Monica tells Gonzalo if all he came for is sex can he can leave. Gonzalo asks what is going on with her.
  • Adrian goes to Karen’s place to ask for help finding a shelter but she offers to let him stay at her place. (Not a spoiler: I hope Karen doesn’t fall for Adrian. We need more female friendships on TV). Adrian hopes that him leaving his sister will prove his love.
  • Monica tells Gonzalo thinks they should be a family and she worries about her kids and the fact that they might put two and to together regarding his name since they are growing up.  She is also sad that her kids are less in Gonzalo’s eyes than his with Ines. (I mean Monica, your kids are 10 years old, why is there still hope there?) Gonzalo promises as soon as his kids out of the house, he’ll reveal everything. (Oh yeah, another promise).
  • Monica’s mom tells Rene tell their dad to live with them (all she does is make it worse). Rene wants more gifts. Alan, who I assume is the younger brother, doesn’t want gifts; he just wants his dad’s time. Rene wants gifts and his time (oh boy).
  • Paulina goes to visit Adrian. Before she goes up to the bedroom, they show her saving goodbye to Mauricio from his POV. It is quiet as she signs to him. (I thought it was really cool). Upstairs, Adrian wants to get married ASAP. (I agree, or elope because these people are all crazy liars). Paulina worries about leaving the people she loves but since Adrian left his sister already she would have to live with it. (It could be a small wedding with just Ines, Mau, Karen and Jaime). When Karen comes in chasing after Mauricio, Paulina thanks her and is okay with her having told the truth to Adrian (at least she’s grateful).
  • Alfonso tells with Camilo that says Ines is on Adrian’s side, for now, and she might sway Gonzalo. However, he also acknowledges that Gonzalo never admits he’s wrong or backs down from a fight. Camilo says that he is not going to throw himself at Paulina until she’s ready to accept him and is over Adrian; her happiness comes first. (How is it that the younger crowd is nicer and more courteous of other’s feelings than the “adults?”)
  • Alan is sad his dad won’t sleep at home again but Rene wants to know why is he different from all the other dads. Gonzalo isn’t having it and sends the kids away then warns Elisa to shut it or she’ll regret it. (Gonzalo is the piece of work of the year. Also, Elisa sure talks a lot of smack about Gonzalo but enjoys his money).
  • Chelo wonders what Mauricio’s life would be without Edgar, who busts in at that moment and tells her to leave. Chelo immediately runs down stairs to tell Ines that Edgar is beating up Mauricio. They both run up.
  • Julieta is doing a little spring-cleaning—touchingand smelling everything. She worries that she will never smell Adrian again because he took his cologne (whatttt????). She knocks over the cleaning bucket and finds bleach.
  • Paulina, who is in the kitchen making food for Mauricio, answers the phone. It’s Julieta who blames her for everything and says she’ll carry her death on her conscience forever. Julieta drinks more bleach as Paulina asks what’s she doing…(All abroad the crazy train!)

Gracias Alfredo!

Gonzalo is sure a piece of work alongside Nuria, Alfonso&Juliera. I wonder how a smart woman like Ines and men like Jaime fell into their charms. It's a mad train and now the chaos can begin!

Julieta reminds me of a schoolgirl under demonic influences. All she needs is some tatoos, a razor and a T-shirt "You're only crazy once". Let's hope the bleach reached it's expiry date.

I kind of laughed when Nuria tried to get Edgar &Mau out of the house only for Ines to flatout reject her opinion. Besides is Edgar immune to alchohol? I would have thought his livers turned purple long ago.

I am actually liking the couple as they aren't as stupid as the others. I hope they don't dumb them down.

Julieta is psycho!

Thanks so much, Alfredo!

Yay for Karen saving Paulina and refusing to keep the attack a secret!
Yay for Camilo being honorable and putting Paulina's happiness above his own interest!

Yay for Clorox! Take psycho Julieta out! Sheesh!

Count, you're welcome!

Steve, Julieta is too much fun.

That cologne scene was worth the whole episode. I can't believe Jaime and Adrian live with her. I wonder how crazy she got with Adrian's last gf. Ines is a hoot. She told Nuria since she doesn't take care of either of them she shouldn't complain. I like how, despite his complacency in Gonzalo's affair, even he has his limits. I like the main couple as well but I wished Paulina would just tell the truth. Trust and truth in a relationship is key!

Gracias, Superalfie!

Monica, that train has left the station. Gonzalo will not leave Ines and the society associated with her. Whether he was originally of that class or not, everyone around them will side with her. As to "when the children leave the house", Nuria won't. She's content to suck that silver spoon forever. Get a job and meet an available man.

Jaime, put your wife into the asylum. Ayer. This suicide attempt will land her in the hospital, so you will never have a better opportunity.

Ines, get Edgar out of the mansion. See your lawyer about adopting Mauricio, then take him to all the right doctors to determine if his deafness can be cured. If not, get him to the right school so he can learn to be independent some day. And get Nuria to a shrink before she becomes the next Julieta.

Paulina, elope with Adrian before Julieta and your parents can stop you.

Karen, good show.

Thanks, Superalfie! I heartily agree with your praise of Karen. She's a great friend.

Urban- One of the things Inez said to Nuria about keeping Edgar and Mau with them, is that they'll be able to get Mau the therapy he needs, so she's already thinking about that. But I can see Edgar fighting to keep custody of Mau because he knows Mau is his biggest meal ticket in that house. That poor child. I think if anything stops Paulina from running away with Adrian, it would be Mau and not wanting to leave him. She seems to be the person he most loves.

Glad to see that Camilo and even his dad Alfonso seem to have a conscience. I like that Camilo is putting Paulina's happiness first.

Monica is a fool if she thinks that Gonzalo has any intention of leaving Inez. She also doesn't seem to understand that a man wants his mistress to stroke his ego and make him feel good-- not nag him more than his wife does. She made the choice of bringing children into this situation-- and they'll never be able to escape the fact that they are the bastard children of their father's mistress. That's just a fact.

I thought it was cool that they obviously used a real old photo of Arturo P. (Gonzalo) and Leticia C. (Inez) from when they were young. Must have been from an old telenovela or publicity photos.

Aha! Here's the picture-- it's from a 1987 telenovela they did together: http://tinyurl.com/hprkm2q

You're welcome Lila, Urban and Vivi!

I saw pic and ot was not a novela I recognized. Its cute that they are still being paired together, especially after El Nombre Del Amor.

so true what you said abput mistresses, Vivi. I am watching Donde Esta Elisa and one of the scenes was the character who has a lover saying how he goes to him to relax because of his problems at home. Love can sure blind people.

Funny about Nuria...what does she do all day? I believe Gonzalo is new rich but maybe Ines is too as he created the "Gonzi scheme" to hopefully make a profit and name for himself.

Lila, I say Clorox doesn't do her in. Evil doesn't die so easily.

Agreed; it takes a lot to kill evil. But I'll bet that Jaime doesn't have her locked up.

Nuria only spends her days being a pain in the rear. Ines seems to have her number; not sure Gonzalo does. She will have a total breakdown when she finds out about her dad's secret second family.

I'm sure that there are plenty of photos of Arturo&Leticia, much more than photos of Arturo and his spouse Gaby Ortiz. If Arturo wasn't married, it would be perfect if Lety assumed the role of his wife! Or maybe they are already lovers but we don't even know about it :) It seems to be a funny casting humour to always put them together. They're like ice and fire.

Urban, I also can't wait for Nuria's reaction when she learns of Gonzo's second family and the reaction of Adrian if Julia's ramblings turn out to be true! At first I believed in Gonzo's words as alchoholics like Edgar love to blame others for their own failures . It would be a fresh twist if Gonzo actually didn't scam anyone, it's only that everyone else was too incompetent to reach Gonzo's level. But it's just a fringe theory really.

I am hoping the bleach is the thick, no splash kind not the cheap version sold at 99 cents stores, die Juli die. Thanks for the recap. Jeez there is a lot of evil in this one. Rene is a chip off the block isn't he? Greedy little sucker.
Romy

. "(Fresh out of college and already the boss of someone who has been there for years? Camilo that spells trouble)."

Yes indeed it does spell trouble. As does that wide, delighted smile of the secretary when Jaime admits his love is fading for his crazy, unhinged wife. But one can hardly blame Jaime at this point. Good grief!

Latino marriage patterns seem rather flexible. A "second front" and a "casa chica" are run of the mill as well as two sets of offspring. When I was in Brazil, back in the sixties, you would often meet the "fiancée" at parties. And there were children at home. Of course at that time there was no divorce in Brazil. But the second woman was not hidden. She was out openly in normal society with her man and their children.

I really find Edgar insufferable. What a whiny waste of oxygen. Prefer to out and out baddies to self-pitying whiners.

And thanks Vivi for the link to that picture of Leticia and Arturo (like we're on a first name basis!) But Lordy, they are just sooo cute. And still gorgeous, both of them.

Great recap SuperAlfie. Shrewd observations and crisp, clean prose. Tell it like it is. Gracias.

Judy- I know, right! That was almost 30 years ago. Leticia looks like a baby in that picture, and she's still a gorgeous woman now.

You're welcome, JudyB! Thank you for sharing your experiences in Brazil regarding the wife and mistress. As horrible as it might sound, at least Brazil seems to be upfront about it. Gonzalo's hyprocisy is what gets me screaming at the TV. Such righteousness and piety in front of everyone else, judging others when he has even bigger skeletons.

Nuria is going to pop a vein when she finds out about Monica Greepe and her two bundles of joy. I have a feeling Paulina would be more forgiving but I'm not sure what Ines will do. She seems to have gotten along with Monica when she worked for Gonzalo.

Romy, Julieta chugged down the whole bottle though. Even if she might not die, I wonder if it will have consequences on her body or if novela rules will apply.

Add Cesar Evora, Daniela Castro and Claudia Ramirez to that list. They are all still very good looking despite their age. I remember, also, when I found out Eduardo Yanez was 57! The fountain of youth is at Televisa headquarters.

I'm late to the party but I must compliment you on this thoroughly enjoyable retelling, Superalfie! Thank you for an excellent recap infused with witty asides and spot-on observations. My absolute favorites were the mystery of Julieta having a best friend when we haven't solved the mystery of her managing to land a husband. No way that Gisela is genuinely a friend of Julieta. She's just waiting out the marriage.

Romy, "I am hoping the bleach is the thick, no splash kind not the cheap version sold at 99 cents stores, die Juli die." This made me chuckle! It's early days to get a Die, Die! chant going, but surely Julieta is the best candidate for it!

Unfortunately, as Superalfie Urban pointed out evil doesn't die easily. Julieta should've sought professional help a long time ago but perhaps she enjoys using her condition as a bargaining chip to bully others into doing what she wants. This suicide attempt ought to be the perfect opportunity to get her interned even if she doesn't agree. Then again, Jaime is too much of a pushover.

Sooo, Gonzalo is a bigger jerk than we had envisioned! Wow! When the kids ran to greet him and called him papá, I blurted out loud: "Papá? You *expletive* piece of *expletive*!"

Vivi and Judy, I agree Arturo and Leticia are gorgeous-looking and as Superalfie said, add to them Claudia Ramírez, Eduardo Yáñez (he's 55), Edith González, Erika Buenfil and my favorite, César Évora! I will swoon at César Évora until he turns 98! It's that voice! How can you resist that voice? :)

Thanks Superalfie and everyone!

Hi all. I'm in recovery after the conclusion of the awful Sueno de Amor and missed the start of most of the current Univision telenovelas as it was too late to join in progress. But did get in at the start of Despertar Contigo and am surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. Daniel Arenas is really adorable. I've seen him in previous telenovelas and wasn't that impressed but this time....love him. Am not familiar with most of the rest of the cast but the story line keeps things rolling along. I realize this is not being recapped and hope its okay that I put in a good word for it anyway on this thread.
