This episode sure did turn a turn a lot of things upside down. I'm excited to see how the Camilo thing will play out, I knew he wouldn't throw her under the bus, but I knew for sure Nuria would so I'm glad he came to the rescue.

I LOL'ed so hard at Nuria's face when Camilo announced it was him who Paulina was with. She knows the truth but no one will believe her since Paulina has an alibi.

Now if only Beto spills the beans about Nuria's sneaking, then the cat might possibility be out of the bag and the Murats will know their daughter, on top of the jealousy, might actually be conspiring against her sister.

Funny tidbit, not even Alfonso knows about Gonzalo's "Gonzi" scheme. Hmmm…interested to see how Gonzalo's world may start to unravel, even in front of his best friend and confidante.

I like it when telenovelas are fast and tell a lot of stuff in one episode. Specially when you have those "friday endings" that make you wait until monday to show you juaréver is happening next!!

One more tidbit to Nuria's evil scheme is that she told Edgar not to return the boy after receiving the ransom money, but instead dump him in an orphanage somewhere. And just like that, Nuria goes from just being an annoying brat, to an evil witch (with a 'b').

Was worried there for a bit about Camilo when he was eavesdropping. Glad to see he came to Paulina's rescue.

Did they cut the scene when Silvestre called Gonzalo to report "mission accomplished"? They had stolen the money back from Edgar. Not that I'm applauding Gonzalo, but Edgar does deserve this very bad karma.
 

Pablo, this was a terrific recap! I love the snark and humour, as well as all the detail! Thanks so much. In fact, I'd like to extend profuse and sincere thanks to all of the recappers that have started us on this wild ride. When Nandicta (who has since been elevated to the status of 'Goddess' in my books) first started to try and see if we could all get a little patio going for this novela, SOMEHOW, I was among the most passionate devotees of her efforts, and that idea. Well, I can't imagine us all getting off to a better start than we have thanks to you recappers. We're all grateful for your contributions (Delilah, I can't BELIEVE that it was just a little while ago you gave it your first shot, on the wonderful little surprise that was the 'Camino' patio. Talk about taking to something as a fish takes to water!), and for what you've all done to help bring this to life for us. I know I sure as hell am! :-)

It really is a shame that the lobotomized morons at StupidVision decided to stick with their plans to air the most awarded novela of its year in their 2 AM slot, while 'La Rosa de Guadalupe', a cloying, saccharine, user-friendly, procedural, a televisonal version of SOMA that offers nothing exciting, challenging, innovative, or stimulating, and that patronizes its viewers into a mild, feel-good kind of somnolence after watching yet another episode of somebody helped out by a 'miracle' gets one of the coveted evening timeslots. That 'La Rosa de Guadalupe' is now shown three times each day only serves to remind us further that has no respect, and couldn't give a shit about Mexican/Latino/Hispanic programming, nor diversity, nor even the quality of what they provide for their viewing audience (although we ALL on here already well knew that, having had our beloved novelas fall victim to Univision's merciless editing scissors time and time again). All they care about is ratings, ratings, ratings. Univision seems to be functioning based on the old adage that one can never go wrong by appealing to the lowest common denominator, and I personally find that cynicism disgusting. I despise CEO Randy Falco, who neither knows or cares anything about quality Spanish-language programming, or Spanish-language television in general (although- to his credit I guess- he doesn't pretend to), because he views the things that is perhaps the largest and most important, and possibly influential voice of Spanish-speaking America outside of Latin America, as just.... ratings, ratings, ratings, and money, money, money. I wish he'd go back to AOL or NBC or hell or wherever it is that he came from. The man doesn't even speak SPANISH, for God's sakes!! (he has said "I don't speak Spanish, and I don't even pretend to. I speak the language of television.". Jerk.

 

I TOTALLY agree with you all about what has been said previously regarding the casting. I love Carlos Moreno Laguillo, he does always seem to put together a terrific cast, and he also certainly knows how to not just TELL a story, but to also keep that story going at an intense and gripping pace. His last five projects have been remakes of some of the most successful and iconic telenovelas of all time, each of them multiple award winners, and, in each case, his remakes have honoured the original, while still forging their own path and establishing themselves as quality works in their own right, fully worthy of standing on their own. Such is the case here. One of the things I like about Sr. Moreno's remakes is that he somehow manages to make the story even MORE than what it was... his remakes are usually MORE extreme than the original, with more 'stuff' happening, including a lot more betrayal, death, and violence. While I am aware that this puts off a multitude of viewers (who I believe should just stick to clutching their pearls while watching light-hearted froth or, hell, 'La Rosa de Guadalupe'), there are also viewers like me that just LOVE that kind of stuff, and I am eternally grateful for he, his team, and their artistic output that they give us.

And we ARE off to a great start here, aren't we?? Reading all the wonderful recaps, I am reminded of one of the more interesting aspects of this story, that being the characters. Usually in Eric Vonn stories you will find characters who- be it through their complexity, or just simply by who they ARE- are unlike any other you would be likely to find in any other novela. Julieta would be such a character. Who doesn't love a villain who is 'evil' or 'psycho' (such as ENDA's 'Carlota', to name one example)? But Julieta is different from this. She isn't evil. She doesn't have any nefarious designs or grand schemes or anything. Instead, the woman is just totally and completely insane, and that might even be worse... how the hell does one deal with an utterly loose cannon?? We, the viewers, have been privy to this pretty much right from the get-go. Now, not even a week in, it's absolutely clear as day to us, so we can't help but wonder and dread what the f**k she is going to do now, as well as wonder when the people around her will finally clue in to this walking nuclear bomb amongst them. This- their comparative density (in relation to ours) is, I think, not all that unrealistic. Remember that Jaime and Julieta have been married for quite some time now, they're certainly not newlyweds. And, while we have not been made privy to whatever backstory they may have, it's also apparently just been 'Adrian and Julieta' for quite some time now. Perhaps, in the absence of parents or any close family that we can tell, Julieta threw herself into her role of Adrian's primary care-giver with total abandon, and that was just how their relationship existed, even before she was batshit crazy. If that was the case, it would be normal for Adrian, and if that was the dynamic between the two of them that he was used to when they married, it would be normal for Jaime too. So it would be understandable for them to not notice Julieta's slide into madness and psychosis until there was reason to and, even then- because of all-too-human responses to things such as incomprehension, shock, and denial- I would think it might still be hard to grasp and accept, let alone to deal with, until the reality becomes inescapable. It's just frightening to contemplate what depths Julieta is going to have to plunge them into for that reality to become inescapable to them. Therein lies the drama, I guess! Sure is a lot more exciting then 'some bimbo drugged my fiancee and took pictures of herself in bed with him', so I'm going back to my skeezy ex', or some other more typical telenovela trope!
 

So many of the other characters have something about them that defines them as well, and in some cases sets them apart. Gonzalo in many respects fits the bill of your typical tyrannical telenovela patriarch/tyrant. A guy that can be a real A**HOLE when he wants to. Yet he seems to genuinely love his wife. He also seems to have something of a conscious. That he didn't just kick Monica to the curb, or deny her and her kids, and that he also seems to be trying to juggle having the two families I think shows that he's a sleazeball, but not at heart a bad guy- he wants what he wants, but he also wants them all to be happy. He is protective and caring of Paulina, and I think if Nuria was even remotely human and as such possibly in need of a fathers protection and care at times he would be so to her as well. Nuria seems to be an utterly black-hearted snake however, so he at least ensures that she doesn't physically want for anything (which is all you can do with somebody like Nuria, as human emotions to people like her have no real value except as something to be either used, exploited or rejected as insignificant). He does seem to be in love with his beautiful, kind, and decent wife and obviously treats her with respect and even deference.... even though he has been betraying her. His reaction to Mau's situation and his defense of the little boy was almost visceral in its passion, nor did he hesitate to include Chelo as well and rescue her from the drunken scuzzbag Edgar. I see him as a very selfish man who is probably very prone to falling prey to his baser instincts, yet who really doesn't want to HURT anyone in the process. I smell hubris here!
Hubris also I detect in Leticia Calderon's Inez. It is great watching these two together- wait until you guys get 'Mujeres de Negro', she and Peniche are utterly FABULOUS together there- and though I think I will now and forever-more ALWAYS prefer Sra. Calderon as a villain (as the ones that she has played now that she has decided to take on those sorts of roles in her career have just been so flawless), I forgot how well she can do kind, beautiful, gracious, classy, and loving as well. It will be interesting to see how this proceeds... Inez does not seem to be in any way a second-class citizen to her husband. She appears to be level-headed, rational, gracious, classy, compassionate, and an ideal friend, wife, and mother. He, to his credit, seems to have done nothing to try and break her down, and I wonder if he often defers to her in decisions and judgements as he did when the reality of what Mau and Chelo's life was like dawned upon them. She also appears to be a very strong woman- fully equipped, capable, and ready to stand up to anybody and address any injustice. I wonder if that strength will be HER hubris, when the base from which she has built her life and her strength cracks and/or crumbles as she becomes aware of her husbands deceit. That'll be a painful episode to watch when that happens.


 

Then we have Nuria. Nothing good can come from her. Interestingly, and as has been pointed out, all of the novelas that are currently airing on Univision have a multitude of antagonistic sisters in them. Upon further and deeper inspection of them, however, the similarities end there. In TvA, Ana Leticia is not just A textbook narcissist, she could be considered THE textbook narcissist, in ECDLP, Rebeca projects her inner feelings of inferiority in relation to her sisters outwardly and tries to break them down, while also trying to overcome her own insecurities and self-loathing by doing whatever the hell she wants, and to hell with everybody else. When one of her sisters dies inadvertently yet still by Rebeca's own hand that inferiority and self-loathing becomes absolute, and I imagine much of the conflict will arise due to Rebeca's interactions will all other people, which will probably all be different depending on who that person is, yet none of them positive or healthy. In the second generation of that novela, Nora is an entitled, ungrateful, immature little brat. She could be said not just to be A brat, but to be THE brat. Hopefully, brats like her outgrow their brattiness as they become mature adults. It remains to be said if this will be the case for Nora, as well as what damage she'll do to others in the meantime. I don't see her as necessarily 'evil' though, although she certainly seems to be a bad girl. Then here, on AQNMD, we have Julieta (who, as I mentioned before, is simply and utterly insane), and then we have Nuria. Nuria, in contrast to the wicked sisters in ECDLP, DOES appear to be simply an evil person. I find it interesting that Nuria is the ELDEST child here, (whereas in ECDLP, both Rebeca and Nora are the youngest). This tells me that there isn't any hope that Nuria will grow or change, this is just the person that she is and as such GOD HELP EVERYBODY!!! She doesn't appear to have anything good or positive about her, and with a cold and black and poisonous heart she seems to want to exist simply to try and spread that poison to as many people around her as possible. I would draw parallels to both Regan and (most especially) Goneril from Shakespeare's 'King Lear'- widely considered to be perhaps the most horrible human beings that Shakespeare created- but Nuria has not done anything yet that would define her as almost 'absolutely' horrible. Yet. There certainly doesn't appear to be anything good in her, however, nor do I see in her any rationale for her black-heartedness ('resentment' is simply an excuse she uses to try and make other people feel guilty for things that she has done). But what an unhappy and miserable human being! She'd be considered almost pathetic if her misery and unhappiness didn't also make her so dangerous. It's great to see Laura Carmine in the type of true villain role that people were saying she'd be terrific in (through no fault of her own, Esthercita in LT was SUCH a let-down, but then again so was that whole damn novela...). We're not even a week in, and I can already see why she won the award for the years best villain (and she hasn't even really gotten started yet!!)

Anyways, thanks for letting me rant and basically drone on and on and on (as I am want to do...). Best wishes to you all here on this lovely little patio!!! :-)

Thanks for pointing out the omissions in the story. I stand corrected. I guess I am just like Calvin, who is paying more attention to hair and wardrobe than crucial turns in the plot, Jaja!

Anyway, I have corrected the mistake, and now the plot actually makes sense, LOL!
 

Julieta is truly unhinged. When she took the soup pot off the stove I thought she was going to throw it in the cook's face. As for Adrian not liking carrots in the soup, where does that come from? Unless the cook was hired yesterday wouldn't she know something like that? I'm more inclined to think that Julieta made that one up.

I have difficulty imagining Jaime thinking that there is anything normal about their situation. It's a good thing they don't have children. Could it be that she can't and this sent her over the edge?

Nuria went over the edge yesterday with her rough handling of the child and telling Edgar to dump him in an orphanage. Why would this bitch feel threatened by a deaf child? He can't manage Gonzalo's business later unless there is some surgery or other solution that makes him able to hear. She's just picking on an easy victim who can't rat her out as easily as anyone else. Her Karmageddon will be severe for this.
 

Urban- I too thought that Juli was going to throw that soup on poor Olga. Olga looks very young, so I wouldn't be surprised if she is a relatively new maid and doesn't know everyone's likes and dislikes. I'm sure maids don't stay for very long in that house with Juli.

Stevey- Thanks for coming by and sharing your pithy insights. Your enthusiasm for this tn was definitely instrumental in helping Nandicta build this patio.

I wonder how far Paulina and Camilo will go with this fake courtship to throw everyone off her and Adrian's scent?
 

At least for the whole first season, LOL! They have to make it last.
 

Urban, Nuria made it very clear she is threatened by Mauricio. Even if he doesnt enter the hotel business, Ines and Gonzalo will no doubt include him in their will. This was what she screamed at her parents.

Now, if Mauricio prepares himself, now that he has access to the Murat resources, he could also very well be the next CEO or w.e. the hotel equivalent is.

Vivi, Im wondering if this fake courtship will weight on Camilo until he thinks he might have another chance with Paulina. I hope not but when there is a pretend relationship, and one of the parties is already involved is in love, it usually makes things difficult.

Like there isn't enough dinero to go around? Lately it seems that Avarice is the most popular of the 7 Deadly Sins.

I doubt that Mauricio could become the CEO of the hotel chain. He's a smart kid, but deafness makes anything like that very difficult, especially if one is required to interact consistently with others and on an international level. Besides, Gonzalo has two sons who are older and "normal."

Gonzalo should buy a small apartment for Nuria and give her just enough of an allowance to live on with very few --or no -- luxuries until she starts working.
 

Thats exactly what Ines pointed out. Her and Gonzalo have plenty money so that theor "3" children can love comfortably. Nuria is just greedy and envious. She'd probably take Paulina off the will of she could just so she could have it all.

I doubt shed mamage it well so that would only last a few years.

Only thing that will work for ia cutting her off. Shes either gonna sink or swim, which might happen if and when her part in Mauricios kidnapping comes out.

I have to agree with Stevey's comments.The situation with Ines and Monica appears to be crappy but it would turn much more if the truth comes out. Gonzalo is desperately trying to block the truth of his past sins. If Gonzalo didn't have anything to hide he wouldn't have any problems accepting Adrian into the familia. This novela seems to be an anagram of Teresa Alarcon's line : "The truth doesn't set you free. It is cruel, nothing survives it. Keep looking and you will find out".

I barely noticed that Julieta has really no other motives to live other than Adrian. It's not just an bratty excuse., it's a mental illness. Loonieta fullfilled her promises by chugging down bleach. It's a world of difference between empty threats and fullfilled prophecies. I presume Loonieta wasn't as nuts as she is now. Adrian's other girls were most likely easy to chase away but Paulina is proving to be a challenge. Does she know about Nuria's crush on Adrian?

I'm sure we'll eventually hear that Nuria went after every guy Paulina ever dated. There are numerous examples from other novelas to suspect this.
 

What's really scary to me about Julieta is her total and absolute obsession that Adrian is HERS ... like a favorite toy that she owns. Despite her sniffing of his belongings, it didn't come across to me as remotely sexual in nature ... He's just a THING that she owns and refuses to share. He keeps pointing that out to her but she's too far gone to hear it. I'm frustrated with her husband. Dude, really? Get some psychiatric help for your wife, like, yesterday! Don't expect her to agree to it, file whatever you need to for a conservatorship - STAT! Bad guys do it all the time, why not the good guys for a change - do it! Look what happened with Britney Spears! I know, I know ... "Self, this is just a telenovela!"
 

Yeah Anon, only the bad guys have the courage to do bad things to their wives, even send them to a manicomio. But the good guys let themselves get walked over to not appear "abusive" as it could prove detrimental to their reputation/career.

Did any one else get the feeling that Camilo wants to take advantage of Paulina's need to lie to really try to rekindle their long-extinguished flame and is not merely rescuing her? I still feel he's honest and noble, but feelings is feelings and I kinda got a vibe like he's not totally selfless in his move to cover for Paulina. Her face also seemed to betray a sense of suspicion as well.

I know. Everyone's said it but this sister obsessed with a brother thing is just icky, even without sexual overtones! Juli wouldn't even let her friend sit in the same chair Adrian had sat in. . .jeezo. . . .and strangely, Jaime's secretary seemed sincerely hopeful that he and his nut job wife can get back together. . . .or she's very skillfully playing her hand at capturing Jaime's heart when he finally gives up on Julieta.

Thanks for the recap Pablo...Haven't seen this yet (crazy week, crazy weekend, but loved you recounting of equally crazy telenovela events, and especially your remark that little Mauricio reminds you of le Petit Prince. Indeed he does. Beyond lovable and adorable. Just further proof that Edgar and Nuria are sub-humans at best in their capacity to ill-treat the little tyke.

Not much subtlety in these characterizations but hey! we know whom to root for!

Pablo thanks for the recap. Another story of really jealous crazy siblings. OMG! Who takes their sweet little kid and gives him back to His abusive father for money? And the bastard threaten that child to hit him. He should die before this ends. And the witch that calls Herself a human being that took that child, why?
Welll she is her fathers daughter, who has himSelf a whole other family. Why do these silly Women lower themselves to these lying men Who are so dadgum selfish? And she wants Him to leave his wife, how stupid is she? And To bring children into this nightmare. He comes with gifts for the kids, and then goes Back to his respectable family. Schmuck, Schmuck, Schmuck!!!! There are other words To use but that would be disrespectful on the Net. His poor wife has no idea what a peice of Crap she is married too. But I have hope That she'll find out before the show is over. I could really hate some of these characters. These actors

Nuria, is pariah! She just latches on and sucks the life out of things doesn't she? What an exhausting chick. Such bad energy emanates from every pore. Gonz is a patan for cheating on his wife and having a second family, but at least he has some heart in him to be human and think of others, like Mau. Nuria is just cold and evil and selfish.

I still say things are going to end terribly for Edgar. It's either going to be Gonz's henchmen or the loan shark.

Pau was stupid for talking about her plan with Adrian in the office where anyone could hear. I know..I know..we'd have no tn plot if it weren't for her big mouth and Camilo eavesdropping.

Speaking of...I don't think Camilo is quite the noble he's coming across as. He's no dummy and knows this is an opportunity for him. He gets to be close to Pau by pretending to be her boyfriend and possibly gain some ground. Now she has to pretend to be his girlfriend so everyone will back off. It's a total win for him and it will completely irritate Adrian. Well played Camilo!

Poor Jaime, I really wish he could find some real healthy love. The man is a saint for sticking around this long. I just don't know why Looniete hasn't been committed yet. How can they no see that she's not just a little crazy, but almost gone?

Looniete probably never saw a day in the asylum because Jaime is too kind and that kindness let Looniete's wicked obsession more than it should. If Jaime was any other crazy bad guy ala Pedro Medina than getting trapped into an asylum room would have been the least of Looniete's problems. Bad guys dare to do a lot more, that's why they are bad guys. I shouldn't even mention what would happen if a crazy suegra was set loose on Loonieta.

Pablo, you challenged yourself to see if you could apply your special parodying/recapping talents to serious non-Osorio TN material and you passed the test with flying colors! What a splendid recap this was! You relayed all the important details while infusing the retelling with your wonderful sense of humor! This had a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, starting with the excellent title, but my absolute favorite, and I don't know why but it made laugh like a crazy person, was this: "Really? You don't have groceries to make another pot? You used the last potato and the last tomato, the last piece of onion and the last clove of garlic, and the last carrot and the last cup of tap water?" Thank you bunches, amigow! :)

As for the events of this crazy episode, I think you guys pretty much covered everything. All I'll do is echo JudyB sentiment: "Not much subtlety in these characterizations but hey! we know whom to root for!", then I'll end with Vivi's petition: SAVE MAU (Le Petit Prince de Quintana Roo, Mexique).

All that really Loonieta needs is a quircky suegra in law to make the asylum room appear more humane and a better option for Loonieta(Perhaps interpreted by Diana Bracho/Daniela Romo or Silvia Mariscal!) But really the doctors should have given her an extra dose of bleach in her breakfast. A terrific opportunity wasted!
 

Crazy but with the insides squeaky clean! No need of a colonic now! LOL!
 

Yeah, I imagine that Loonieta would just evacuate immediatly at the sight of Silvia Mariscal's Elisa from El Hotel just to get away from her LOL. Teresa Alarcon would probably make Jullieta chuggle down much more than just bleach. Daniela Romo would force her on Hotel duty. Belen would drive on her nerves, Det.Suarez would fall for Julieta but they break up when Suarez finds a teddy bear with Adrian's name inscribed on it. Julieta also gets pregnant but due to no bleach around she chugs down some herb leaves instead. The baby survives but he get's born deformed .The baby is subquently used as a shady altar sacrifice for Diego Montejjo.
