TELEMUNDO Y MÁS (#2): Silvana sin Lana, Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso, Señora Acero 3, & más: Week of August 29, 2016
Labels: acero3, silvana, sin-senos, telemundo
Manuel tells Poncho he wants to be 100% honest with him. He thought the whole engagement and wedding plans were some kind of joke. Now, he thinks it’s serious. Now that he’s sure they’re really getting married, Manuel wants to wish Poncho the best. He tells him Stella is a good person. Poncho tears up and eventually they embrace!
Don Benito, of course, can’t hold a grudge against Trini. He shows up at Casa Chivis with a bouquet of flowers. She can’t look at him, saying she’s never felt such shame. He does want the truth about one more thing: he wants to be sure she’s really a widow. She assures him she is. They get closer and almost kiss when, with the usual winding down of the romantic music they love to do in comic novelas, Chivis arrives home and they spring apart.
Trini tells her daughter about the visit of the police to the bakery.
At the Fish Market office Vicente interrogates his father about how he feels about Stella marrying Poncho. I got a big kick out of this conversation. Vicente correctly intuits that he’s not upset about Stella because he’s in love with Silvana. But Vicente is worried his father will get hurt when her husband returns.
We miss MJ actually telling her mother that she flunked out, but we see how upset Silvana is. MJ sings her worn-out song about everything happening because of the turmoil of her father leaving. Chivis isn’t buying this. She tells her that the rest of them had the same challenges, but only MJ was irresponsible.
Lucha gets the best grade in the class, and the snotty students start up again about it being because she’s Andrés’ girlfriend. Andrés tells the whole class that, if they think he’s favoring a student and is unethical, then they can leave right now and change to another class. They all shut up and examine their textbooks.
Chivis tells MJ that a woman today has to be prepared to support herself. She goes on to say that MJ missed that chance to prepare for a career, so she’ll have to work! [The writers heard us on Caray, Caray!] She tells her daughter she won’t have a daughter who’s a parasite. She’s going to start working at the Fish Market. [I LOVE IT!!!] MJ, horror struck, starts babbling on about all the nacos. Her mother says she’s never taken anything seriously in her whole life, but that’s the end of that.
MJ then tries to convince Angie to go to bat for her with Chivis. Angie says that this will give her a chance to see how she really feels about Vicente. MJ, exasperating as always, says that she really has a thing for him but has no intention of marrying someone like him. Angie tells her “Oh, I get it. You want to marry someone that you don’t love, but for money.”
The two detectives have come to see Silvana at her house. Lupita answers the door, then slams it in their faces and runs to tell her mother they’re there. Chivis, very uncomfortable, tells them she hasn’t heard from AJ.
Lupita tells the police that her father went to Hollywood, California. Then Lupita goes next door to tell Pedrito about the police and that her father has given them gifts and is back in town. Manuel comes home and Lupita tells Pedrito it’s okay to tell his father what’s up.
Stella tells Dominique and Poncho that all is going perfectly; Manuel has smoke coming out his ears from jealousy. She even tells Dominique about Chivis helping her buy a dress. Dominique says that maybe they should go to the market to buy some screws to replace the ones that are loose on her.
When Chivis tells MJ, Angie and Trini that, if the police return, she’ll have to tell the truth. MJ accuses her of wanting to turn her father in to the police. The always sensible Angie tells her sister that their mother could be in big trouble lying to the police. Chivis says she’s no good at lying. Angie comments that she could always take lessons from MJ!
Margarita, of course, takes advantage of the “doing homework” to kiss Jorge. He doesn’t resist much. Don Benito comes home and breaks this up. He says Jorge is NOT her boyfriend so no kissing.
Poncho tells Dominique that he’s sure Stella really is going to marry him. He says they even have a date set up with the priest!
We get another nighttime balcony scene. Manuel tells Chivis that Lupita told them about the visit from the police. He touches her hand to give her some good vibes. She smiles because Manuel always makes her happy. From below we see AJ watching this particular Romeo and Juliet.
Jorge is coming back from Margarita’s and recognizes AJ. He introduces himself as the neighbor. AJ shakes his hand but then runs off. Jorge goes inside and tells his father that he saw AJ. Vicente has come in and tells his father he knew that sooner or later the guy would show up.
Many thanks, novelera, for another terrific recap. I'm impressed with the way you're able to capture what happens so clearly and succinctly, and I love your choice of words. For example, "MJ sings her worn-out song." (I also enjoyed "Stella swans into Manuel's office" from yesterday's recap.)
So Lucha winds up getting the only A in her class. Frankly, if I were one of the other students, I too would be suspicious. Med students are notorious for being high achievers (that's the nice way of saying it). I find it strange that among such a group, only one person gets an A, and that one person is the, um, friend of the professor. Moreover, I was astonished at the crass way Andrés handled the students' suspicions. Oh well, it's novelaland.
I've got to run, but I did want to thank you before I left.
Thank you, novelera, for the recap!
I'm so glad Chivis told MJ she has to get a job.
Stalker hubby AJ is kind of creepy. I really don't want Chivis to end up with him.
Does the Patio want to make bets on whether Stella's priest is not a real priest, therefore the marriage to Poncho will be fake?
I'll get to watch this later today and look forward to it.
Thanks, novelera, for the recap~ wonderful work as always.
Doris.... I wondered the same thing. Poor Poncho! All we need is some cross-dressing and/or a magical spell and this little storyline could be truly Shakespearean! I feel sorry for him, mainly becaus he's in love with Stella, whom I find insuffereable! I guess she does have some redeeming qualities, for instance, she took in Jennifer and her kids. But then...that was mainly so that she had an excuse to stay with Mañuel. Hmmmm.
MJ working in the fish market should be funny! Good for Chivis!
Antonio Jose is gross and creepy. Chivis looked terrified when she found that note on her windshield.
Trini has lied to the Feds... That ain't good, I don't care where you're from! They could easily find out that she is Silvana's mother. What a boob,
thanks once again novelera!
your recaps are amazing in how you just lay it out there and make it all look so easy.
""Hasta que te conocí", it is a drama series that follows the steps of Alberto Aguilera Valadez, towards his dream to fame. A tour of 13 episodes based on unpublished evidence that reveals, as never before, the life of the divo of Juarez: Juan Gabriel. A story that tells how his talent led him to defy his fate and overcome poverty, betrayals and prejudices, to become Juanga, the most beloved musical icon in Latin America."
"The series premiered on April 18, 2016 throughout Latin America on TNT."
and will premier on Telemundo on Sunday, September 11.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hasta_que_te_conocí_(TV_series)
Thanks, deb, for the clarification about the bio-pic about Juan Gabriel being on Sunday. I haven't paid close attention to the promos, but I couldn't see how they could end any of the three nighttime novelas so soon in order to show this.
In a perfect world, Stella would hire a fake priest for the wedding, only to later find out he is a real priest or justice of the peace and that she truly is legally married to Poncho. Oh what fun it would be, for the joke to be on her!
doris, I was also thinking that the marriage would end up being real and Stella wouldn't realize it at first or she'd get so caught up in her jealousy plot that she'll marry Poncho anyway.
Majo working at the fish market should be hilarious.
AJ gets creepier by the minute! I really don't like him.
I really like the twist of the fake priest being a real priest. But Poncho was so enthusiastic talking about the date having been set with the priest that I doubt he'd be in on it. Stella, of course, is capable of anything. I agree with the rest of you all who've said Poncho, when he ends up with Stella, is in for an insane marriage.
J, I agree about AJ being creepy. One thing that others have also mentioned is a big plot hole for me. How could someone as genuine and terrific as Silvana have ever married this guy. I know they showed him as Santa Clause for the kids (big whoop) but I still can't in my wildest dreams imagine any passion between the two of them.
I'm not so worried about Trini and Chivis lying to the Feds. This is a comic novela, so I don't think there will be any real consequences. They can always say they JUST found out he's back.
SpanProf, ITA. What happened to AJ turning himself in and then getting freed on bail by Skeezy Rafa?
I did get a big kick out of Dominique using faltarse un tornillo for Stella's condition. It's one of those pretty close to English idioms that I enjoy recognizing when I hear them.
"Majo working at the fish market should be hilarious." I agree, maybe like Ethel & Lucy at the candy factory.
The thing that might save Chivis, re: lying to the Feds about AJ, is that she did not accept the money he sent her via Rafa. The Feds have no paper trail, so far.
BTW, I don't watch cop shows, so ..... Since when do they wear their badges hanging around their necks? At first, I thought they were clipped to their ties but later could see they were on strings, like name-tags at a convention. That just looked odd to me.
novelera - AJ might have looked a LOT better twenty years ago. With a mother like Trini, who believes in marrying for money instead of love, it's a good guess Silvana was heavily influenced by mommy dearest to go for the $$$$. Perhaps Silvana is just now growing up and realizing there is more to a relationship and marriage than money?
Mañuel is so adorable! The whole touching-fingers-on-the-balcony scene was lovely. I really like the way the two of them smile so much when they're together.
Near the end of Thursday's episode, when Jorge encounters Antonio José and asks whether he's Angie's father, AJ finally says Menos averigua dios y perdona. When I watched the episode, I couldn't make out what he said. I've just looked at that scene on Telemundo's website, which has captions, but I'm afraid I still don't understand AJ's statement. Can anyone help me out here?
I think I may have found the answer to the question I asked earlier tonight. It's been discussed on WordReference.com, and several people suggested an English equivalent is "Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies." I would never have guessed that, but it fits AJ's situation very well.
Juanita - That translation makes perfect sense in the context of Jorge's conversation with AJ. Idioms rarely make sense, "as is."
Repeat of Vicente arriving home and hearing about Jorge seeing AJ.
Chivis wakes up a very grumpy Majo so they can go work at the terminal. Majo protests like a baby and keeps whining. Vicente and Stella are surprised to find out she’ll be working there. Vicente is of course happy and offers to show Majo around.
Lupita catches up to Juanito to ask him questions about where AJ went after Trini fainted. Angie and Margarita both arrive from opposite directions, and Margarita asks Angie if she heard the latest news and to ask Jorge about it. Es que estoy tan feliz (I’m soooo happy.)
Stella follows Chivis into the office and shows her some wedding dresses. Chivis really doesn’t care, but Stella goes on and on about the wedding and how sad Manuel is. When Manuel comes in, Stella asks if he told Chivis about him being the padrino.
Lupita tells Angie about her investigation and that she wrote a letter to their dad. Angie reads it and almost starts crying. Lupita wrote that she told the police he was in California and that if he saw a flashlight in the house at night, it was her. She put it on the tree where Juanito said AJ ran towards.
Back in the office, Stella continues to be mega annoying, telling Chivis what a passionate relationship she and Manuel had. Finally, Manuel kicks her out so he can talk to Chivis. Stella even pops her head back in to be extra annoying today.
Manuel tells Chivis that Jorge saw AJ in the street looking at her house. Chivis is shocked and has to sit down. She doesn’t to want to believe it. She tells Manuel about the letter AJ left on her van at the terminal and that she lied to the police. She even says she’s been infiel (unfaithful), and Manuel corrects her: desleal (disloyal). She doesn’t realize what she said; of course she meant desleal. Manuel advises her to tell the truth if the police come back.
Vicente tries to show Majo around but she keeps complaining. Then she blames him for her failing her classes by distracting her. Vicente points out that when two people like each other, they are both responsible. Majo then tries to get him to take her home because she hates the fish smell then she runs off because she thinks she’s going to puke.
Trini cashes out customers at the bakery and genuinely seems to enjoy it. Don Benito says he’ll have to pay her a salary, but Trini declines since it’s a fun hobby to her. The cash register is almost like Candy Crush. Then Don Benito asks about AJ the estafador (conman) and Trini defends him saying that he’s an angel who made a mistake. Juanito pipes up that Luficer was an angel too. Trini continues that she’s most worried about her daughter and granddaughters. Don Benito knows what it’s like to worry about a grandchild. He mentions to Trini that he thinks Margarita and Jorge are back together.
Vicente and Majo arrive at her house. He gives her advice about dealing with the fish smell, and uses it as an excuse to get closer to her and smell her hair. She doesn’t mind at all and they kiss. Then she wants to talk to him seriously. She does like him a lot, but she’s the type of girl who wants to get married. He jokes about her proposing to him. She explains that she wants to marry someone like Andres, someone with a profession, someone at her level. Vicente is understandably hurt and starts heading out. Majo actually does not understand why he’s taking it badly or why he’s leaving.
Jorge and Angie talk about her dad. He is sure that it was him, but he didn’t say much. Angie is worried about how her mother will take the news. Jorge sits closer to Angie and reminds her that he is right next door if she needs anything. She thanks him for being a good friend. Trini is now listening from behind the fridge. As he leaves, Angie mentions that Margarita told her that Jorge had something to tell her. Jorge says no. Angie thought it might be that he got back together with Margarita. He responds that they are not back together, but even if they were, he wouldn’t need to tell Angie about it because it’s private.
The Three Stooges are designing the wedding invitations. Dominique doesn’t like what they are planning. Stella reminds him that it’s all fake and she’s already wasted enough money. Dominique thinks they should create a video.
Lucha receives an email and when she opens it, it’s the ridiculous wedding invitation video with Poncho and Stella as Jack and Rose from Titanic and Dominique as the captain.
Stella arrives at Manuel’s because Padre Sanchez is waiting for him at her house. She claims she told him about it before. More annoying jealousy talk.
Jorge asks Margarita what she told Angie. She lies and thinks that Angie must be making up things to get Jorge’s attention. Jorge doesn’t believe her, and reminds her that they decided to go slowly but if she keeps saying/making up things, it will never work.
Angie tells Trini about Jorge seeing AJ outside. Trini wonders how trustworthy Jorge is; he could just be saying that to get closer to Angie. Angie knows he would never lie about something like that. Trini thinks he’s a little odd, with his wild hair that resembles broccoli, plus Don Benito told her that he and Margarita were getting close again. Speak of the devil, Margarita knocks on the door and wants to talk to Angie.
Lucha sends a message to Andres. She invites him to Stella’s wedding and he accepts. Lucha wonders if it will be a problem that Majo will probably be there. Andres says no, he is en proceso de olvido (in the process of forgetting).
The Three Stooges and Manuel sit on the couch while Padre Sanchez talks to Manuel (as the padrino) about the wedding. Stella holds his hand and then Poncho steals her hand away. The Padre wants to hear about how they fell in love. Poncho gives an intense speech about how he loves Stella and everything about her.
Chivis gets in her van and doesn’t notice AJ spying on her. He also jumps in the van and scares her half to death. She really lets him have it, yelling at him to stay away from her.
Margarita tells Angie that she and Jorge are getting back together so Angie had better not come between them again. Angie says she never came between them in the first place.
Stella tells Poncho that he’s a good actor. Now the Padre wants to hear Stella’s story of falling in love with Poncho. The entire time she looks at Manuel, and Dominique has to whisper to her that she’s talking about Manuel and not Poncho. The Padre seems clueless as to what is going on, and thinks Stella and Poncho are obviously in love.
Chivis is really angry at AJ and doesn’t want to hear his excuses. He abandoned them with no money or house. He sold their properties which isn’t something that you do overnight. He claims that there’s a reason for what he did and that he has a plan but won’t tell her what it is yet. She says the only reason she will support him is because of the girls. When he asks if she still loves him, she kicks him out of the van and starts sobbing.
Thank you J for the recap! Wow.... why did I think there was not an episode last night? I can't wait to watch this one.
Many thanks, J, for a wonderful recap. I'm especially grateful for this one, since I'm still without captions, and reading your recap made it clear to me how many things I missed.
Wow, this novela has more than its fair share of annoying women. Of course, the top prize goes to Stella, but Margarita and Majo deserve runner-up prizes. I can't decide who should get silver and who bronze. Compared to this trio, dour Lucha is a distant fourth. Earlier in the novela, I would have included Trini among the contenders, but she has slipped so far behind that she's almost a pleasant person. :-)
hi Juanita, here is a little something I found online that may help,
"Menos averigua Dios y perdona: Frase que expresa la idea de que, hasta el mismo Dios perdona a quienes somos pecadores, sin necesidad de conocer nada más que nuestro arrepentimiento, por lo cual nadie puede exigirnos saber más de nosotros.
http://www.ciudad-real.es/varios/dichos/m.php
(a rough google translation),
Less seen, God forgives: phrase that expresses the idea that even God forgives those who are sinners, without knowing anything but our repentance, so no one can require to know more about us.
doris, there was an announcement on the Telemundo y Más cover page and again in the discussion saying that the novelas normally seen at 9 and 10 pm wouldn't be seen this Friday because of a fútbol game. You may have misunderstood it to mean that all the novelas would be pre-empted by the game, but it was just the two later ones.
Thanks very much, deb, for the background info about the phrase. I guess I can see how that turned into the equivalent of the common English expression "Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies," but I suspect I wouldn't have made the connection by myself.
J, your recaps are so smooth!
the english captions keep referring to Manuel as being the best man, but then Dominique is also the best man.
I was thinking that Trini told Angie that Benito saw Jorge and Margarita kissing.
just like Stella to propose using email for the wedding invitations, but loved the Titanic video.
AJ's mysterious plan to fix things, I think Chivas told him she didn't want to see him ever, until it was fixed.
J, thank you SO much for the recap. I don't have time to comment until probably late this evening CA time. My wonderful son is due to pull up any minute (1.5 hours East of me) for a bunch of Daddy-do's. He comes to do repairs and electronic stuff for me that's beyond my capacity. I live in a 1952 house that shows it! (And no I'm not old enough to have bought it new!) My daughter-in-law usually comes as well, and the 3 of us go out for a nice dinner on Mom.
Finally! I got to watch this episode after a busy weekend. J, thank you for the recap!
The e-invite to the big wedding was cute; it looked like Titanic meets The Love Boat (with Dom as Capt. Stubing).
At the big meeting with the padre et al, Stella might as well have sat in Manuel’s lap, the way she was all over him. Pobrecito de Pancho.
Pancho in that yellow hat & blue jacket kind of sort of looked like Paddington Bear. ;-)
OMG! Lucha smiled! News alert!
