Vino El Amor #7, November 2, 2016: Vino El Bearer of Bad News

The biggest plot points, of course, were that Luciana and David met for the first time and it did not go well, for reasons both on them, and Luciana delivered the bad news in person about Marcos to Marta.

And here's the recap!

- We begin with Luciana crying over Marcos' lifeless body. She tells him that they were going to return together to the vineyard; now she is alone.

- Bratty Bobby reports to Marta that Fernanda and David are fighting over her being in his bedroom and touching Lisa's things. Liliana intervenes to snark that if Marta were paying attention, this wouldn't have occurred. Bobby tries to defend Marta, but Liliana sticks to her mean streak and says she will scold until Marta does the job properly.

- Seems like a character named Ramon who I somehow missed has a little crush on Marta. He laments to Miguel that Marta sacrifices so much for David's kids. Miguel points out Marta is still married to Marcos. Ramon knows and says nothing, but he's crushing! Someone named Erika brings them the morning schedule and don't try to change it, as David won't like that. León points out that it is really Sonia (who I guess is an assistant for David) who makes the schedules. (I apologize on the vineyard workers, something about the vineyard business gets lost on me, so please correct me if needed.)

- Meanwhile the phone is ringing in the main house, and no one is answering, so David yells for Sonia to answer it. It's Luciana, looking for Marta (no doubt to tell her the sad news about Marcos). Sonia tells her Marta's not there. Luciana tells her it's an emergency. Sonia tells her that neither David nor Liliana like their employees to get personal calls at the house. Luciana asks who she's talking to. Sonia says she is the housekeeper for David. Sonia looks to David, who tells her if it's not for him, he's not interested. (LOL, that is how I handle calls as well.) After hanging up, she offers David coffee, but he dismisses her. Luciana looks at her box of Marcos' ashes and tells her father that she's trying to comply with his desire to reunite with the family.

- Fernanda is outside crying. Tano comes upon her and tries to comfort her. She takes that as a sign to try and kiss him. He backs off; after all, her father is his boss and would kill him. She tries to pull a little rank on him, but he reminds her that David and Liliana are the ones he really needs to obey. He goes off and Fernanda is left with a little smile on her face.

- Now two girls (Carito and Erika) are gossiping about León's sister (Luciana). Erika recalls that Luciana was a brat when she left the vineyard. Carito wants the scoop on Miguel and Luciana. Erika remembers Luciana outside, being a tomboy instead of helping her mother. Sure, Miguel liked her and they visited, but now Miguel is a man, and surely he's moved on. (I think that's what she said, please clarify if incorrect.)

- Turns out bratty Bobby is now gamer Bobby. He likes being with Marta and she helps him win video games. She tells him it's time to go to bed and he thanks her for helping him forget his problems with his dad and Fer. Of course Liliana comes in and snarks about Marta permitting too much video gaming. After Bobby leaves to go to bed, Liliana tells Marta she pays her to care for the children, not play with them. Marta replies that she's worried because since Lisa's death, Fernanda is rebellious and Bobby has no friends and plays on the computer all day. Liliana asks if she's implying David is a a bad parent. (YOU THINK???) Then she twists the knife and asks if Marta actually cares about the missing half of her family. Marta replies that she stayed because David asked her to. Liliana counters that Marta is there for the luxury.

- David's friend Amador - er - César - stops by to visit and encourage David to get back out there and try the new cafe. David doesn't feel like doing that. César is sympathetic, but stresses that David needs to get back into life and that his attitude now is verging on being selfish. That pisses off David and he lashes back, but César remains firm that David's current attitude is harming his children, and if he doesn't change soon, he'll lose anything. David tells him to get lost. (Aw, César seems to be a true friend, so I hope he'll come back and try again.)

- Crazy lady alert! Sonia the housekeeper is dropping off towels into David's bedroom. She sees his boxers and shirt on the bed, picks up the boxers and then picks up the shirt and takes a good whiff. Then she dances around with the shirt and takes one last whiff before Liliana calls to her and she must leave.

- César asks for Juan's help with David, as David is very depressed. Juan says he's tried to help David, but he doesn't listen. César presses, but Juan says that César shouldn't give orders since he's been in Paris and missed things. César presses some more, but Juan says that's all he's going to get. Jeez. Lilian comes in and asked what she missed. Juan says that César is trying to spoil their plan to leave David in a depressed state. Yikes. Then Juan has good news for Liliana: he has found a buyer and if they play their cards correctly, they will get all the earnings from the sale.

- The vineyard workers are eating together. Sonia comes in to tell them she'll dock them pay if they are late. Sonia adds that Marta needs to tell her daughter not to make personal calls to the house. This is the first Marta has heard of Luciana's call; so she asks Sonia what Luciana said. Sonia tells her she hung up on her. Marta warns her not to do that, and Sonia warns her she'll sic Liliana on her. Marta tries to ring Luciana, but there's no answer. León reassures his mother that he's sure Luciana will try again.

- Luciana is on a bus, cradling the box of ashes, and flashing back to Marcos' congratulations on her graduation and his reassurance that they would always be a family.

- César and Susan meet cute when he helps her in the vineyard with carrying something heavy.

- Carito asks Miguel what he's going to do on his day off. She's thinking ice cream! Miguel prefers to rest. Does she want anything from the supermarket? Carito passes, she prefers rest.

- The buyer and Juan meet. Juan tells him that David wants to sell the vineyard and move to Los Angeles. It's too sad there in Sonoma. It's only a matter of time. David is his best friend and it's better for him to sell and move away. The buyer is like, oooh this is good for me. Juan wants to make a partnership with the buyer.

- Luciana has gotten a ride to the vineyard from what looked like a Volkswagen van of kids straight from the 1970s. She strolls right through the unlocked gate.

- Juan would love to turn the vineyard into an olive oil-producing ranch? farm? In any case, he wants to make olive oil, not wine. David never liked the idea but he doesn't make good decisions, y'know? The buyer likes the idea but notes that Juan and David don't seem to agree on things. That should make it easier to buy the vineyard and turn into an olive oil money-making machine! Give David my offer, says the buyer! Muhahahahaha thinks Juan.

- Bobby, Fer, Marta and Liliana are shopping in town. Bobby spots a video game and Liliana gives him money for it, snarking that now she's like Marta! After the kids go to buy the game, Marta mutters to herself about Liliana, and Liliana calls her on it.

- Luciana strolls the vineyard, talking to her father's box and telling him that finally he has returned to the earth he loved so much. She arrives at the house and knocks on the door, but there's no answer. So she lets herself in. She looks at the picture of Lisa and remarks how pretty she was. David comes into the room and says that Lisa was perfect. Luciana greets David, but he doesn't return the greeting as he doesn't recognize the grown-up woman who is in his living room.

- David asks who Luciana is and what she's doing there. Luciana re-introduces herself, but David cuts her off and tells her to get out of there. Luciana tries to explain why she's there, but David cuts her off again and angrily tells her he doesn't need explanations, so scram! Luciana tries to calm him down and tells him she is only looking for her mother. David asks if that's why she broke into his house? He doesn't like people who don't show respect! Luciana bites back that she doesn't like people who treat others badly and they have started off on the wrong foot. She tries to explain again that she's looking for her mother, and David cuts her off again, saying he doesn't know who her mother is, but it's clear she didn't educate her. Luciana snarks about how he treats the employees, but David (who doesn't recognize her and cut her off when she introduced herself) doesn't get it and threatens to call the police if she doesn't leave. Luciana tries AGAIN to explain herself, and David tells her AGAIN he doesn't like break-ins and neither would she so SCRAM. Luciana tells him not to talk like that, and he tells her that he talks the way he wants to. Now be thankful I haven't called the cops and leave! Luciana stomps out.

- Sonia is returning to the house when Luciana comes out of the door, muttering about how awful David has become. Sonia asks who she is and Luciana introduces herself as the daughter of Marta. Sonia remembers that she had called. Luciana remembers that she wasn't helpful and tells her that she came because the call didn't get relayed. Sonia tells her that she has no right to give orders or bother David. Luciana demands to know who she is. Sonia introduces herself as the "right hand" of Liliana and tells her to go look elsewhere for her mom.

- The shopping trip resumes as Fer has spotted an outfit she likes and takes Marta into a store to look at it. Gutierrez comes up to Liliana and just then Marta comes back out to get some money. She double-takes at Gutierrez and he slowly takes off his sunglasses and stares at her while Liliana gets the money out of the wallet. Bratty Bobby comes out of the store just then and asks his grandmother why she's friends with the police. Gutierrez makes his exit and Fer comes out. Liliana is ready to go home, but Fer wants to go to the movies with her friends. No go, Liliana says they are all going because she says so and stomps off. Fer asks about the outfit and Marta warns her it's better to say nothing at the moment.

- Miguel runs into Luciana in the vineyard and their reunion goes much better as he's thrilled to see her. They hug and he tells her she's beautiful. She begins to cry and he asks what happened. She tells him her father died and he gives her a comforting hug, which Carito watches from afar with an evil/jealous look in her eyes.

- It's the weekend and Susan is working on the vineyard problems. Juan asks her why. She tells him if they don't fix the problems, the vineyard will be in trouble. He replies he doesn't think she can fix them and she says she best go. Juan asks her why they aren't friends when they could do so much better. Susan gets his gist and tells him not to mess with her. He tells her not to think badly of him, but she warns him not to go near her.

- Luciana fills in Miguel on Marcos' death. He expresses his sympathy and asks why she didn't just call to let them know. She tells him she came because she realized with Marcos' death, she was alone without her family. Miguel tells her they are there for her, and also that her mom would've gone to Mexico, but Liliana would never let her go. Luciana is annoyed with Liliana about that and asks where Marta is. Miguel tells her that she's shopping with the kids in the village. Luciana groans, as always.

- David is mad at Sonia because of Luciana being able to open the door. He tells her she must lock it for the children's safety. She agrees to comply with this order and offers him a slice of cake. He tells her to give it to the kids and then make sure that Luciana has left the vineyard.

- Carito catches up to Miguel and asks if he's ready to go to the supermarket. He says he's not going as he stumbled onto someone very important. He introduces Luciana to Carito. Miguel and Luciana take off for the workers house, leaving Carito looking green with envy. Luciana tells Miguel that she ran into David and wow was he rude. Miguel confirms the personality change and notes that David treats the workers badly. Luciana starts to reconsider staying there, but Miguel tells her he carries that trinket she gave him for good luck and pulls it out. Luciana is charmed.

- Marta and the kids return to their house. Fer has a grumpy face and pouts that they had to return. Marta tries to cheer them up, saying to guard the things they bought and thanks for the earrings you got me. Fer tells her that Bobby and Fer only want to be with Marta. Bobby jokes that Fer's blouse lacks fabric and Fer tells him he knows nothing.

- Sonia fills in Liliana on Luciana's visit. Liliana is pleased to learn about David's anger with the visit. This is an opportunity to get rid of Marta and her daughter!

- Luciana continues to catch up Miguel in the workers' house, telling him her dad finally had gotten the visa. León and Marta enter and hear this and are thrilled to see her! But where's Marcos? Luciana has to break the awful news to them that Marcos had passed from a heart attack. Marta collapses and wails from her grief.

- Liliana tells David that the girl he encountered was Marta's daughter. David remembers little Luciana and can't believe how she grew. Liliana snarks that she's still rude and wild and trying the same stuff to get attention.

- Marta is in full Victoria Ruffo mode, begging her hija to tell her that Marcos didn't die. why didn't Luciana call? Luciana tells her she tried but it really was not something to tell her by phone. Marta wails that she's alone.  Luciana reminds her that she's there, just as she promised to her dad she would come, and she has his ashes. Marta wails. León reminds them of all the years Marcos tried to return, and Luciana mentions he wanted his ashes spread in the vineyard. Marta wails that Luciana has been alone and she told them (the immigration authorities I guess) not to separate the family.

- Erika pays Juan a visit. She looks cute and wants him to look at her because she's fresh from the salon. He goes and closes the office blinds. Apparently they've been having a secret fling that she doesn't want to be secret. Juan tells her to be patient, it needs to stay secret for now. They make out.

- Tano is strolling to the tunes on his iPod when Fer intercepts him in her new crop top. She wants him to show her the vineyards. He tells her Miguel knows them better. Fer still wants Tano to be the tour guide. Tano tells her some other time, her dad doesn't want him to neglect his job. She asks him what the issue is as this is the second time he's rejected her.

- Back to Erika and Juan. She's pressing him on the secret thing, but Juan tells her that David doesn't like employee relationships. (LOL what does David like.)

- In the workers' house, Miguel is offering condolences to upset Marta and family. What a perfect time for Liliana to stop by! She lights into Luciana for breaking into the house and upsetting David. Luciana stops her and points out that she just told her mom about her dad's death.(Point to Luciana) Liliana says that's not her problem, not her loss, and what Luciana did was wrong. Luciana said no one came to the door and Liliana says that's not a reason to break in. (Point to Liliana) David and Liliana want Luciana to GO, so she's GOING!

Fabulous screen shot dy!!

Can't wait to read your recap as I wasn't able to see this last night.

I am sorry to have missed the "reunion" but know that you will capture it beautifully!

Diana

Ha ha Diana - the screencap says it all! He was so mean to her! But she busted into his home so....

Lillian's cruelty continues to astound and David hasn't yet seen the light. The timing of Luciana's and Cesar's returns is to force David out of wallowing in his grief.

I was pleased to see that the actor playing Juan speaks flawless English. And it looks like Gutierrez is attracted to Marta, which will really grind Lillian's gears. I hope it also gives him an attack of conscience.

I couldn't find the actor's name but the one who played the lecherous Italian in MIVAC is back as an evil gringo.

David's depression suits Lillian's and Juan's plans so she is going to knock heads with Luciana, as will Sonia (for different reasons).

Thanks, dy77, in advance. Since I was channel surfing last night with the Cubbies Workd Series run and some other stuff so I will be eagerly awaiting your recap.

Thank you very much Dy77: Congratulations to the Chicago Cubs on winning the World Series.

As a lifelong staunch San Francisco Giants fan, I'm happy for you guys.

Jarifa: Lillian treating Marta like a piece of property & it's making me SICK!

Luciana being Isabel 2.0 (see Por Siempre Mi Amor) Just saying!

UA: David was an *****HOLE for trashing Luciana like that. I do NOT think Gutierrez is attracted to Marta at all.

I did see her telling Marta, Leon & Co., about Marcos' death. Once again, Lillian (Deborah Sanders 2.0) barges in & acts all beastmode on them.

Thanks in advance, Dy77.

Gutierrez was funny when he saw Marta last night. Has this actor done comedy before? I could almost hear the "boi-oi-oing" of his eyes bugging out of his head. Not quite right for a drama, obviously, and kind of silly even for comedy, but it made me wonder if the actor was trying to make things a little more fun. Also fun: the prospect of Lillian having to deal with Gutierrez turning his interest towards Marta instead of her. Given that Lillian's still convinced that Marta stole her husband umpteen years ago, that's gonna be hurt.

I don't know how much longer I'm going to stay with this show - I don't feel a connection with any of the characters so far, and I'm annoyed by too many of them - but I'm giving it more time till I can see where the storylines are going. I would be more inclined to stay with it if it was going to be a 60-ep deal, but I don't know that I can wait for 120+ episodes for so many jerks to get their anvils. I would be greatly energized, however, if Luciana would please slap Lillian in tonight's episode.

Luciana is almost as bad an explainer as Ramiro was in TVA. She kept seeing "I'm here to see my mother" without saying who her mother was. And she told David she was "Luciana" but didn't give her last name - which would more likely have rung a bell. Anyway, I hope David feels cheap about how he treated Luciana when he finds out that his old friend Marcos is dead.

I am a little curious as to how Juan expects to sell the vineyard and the entire property, including the house, out from under David without David noticing.

If David's depression lasts long enough it might be possible, but certainly difficult. And with Cesar and Luciana chipping away at it it can't last too much longer.

However, I think the damage is done as far as his children are concerned.

Recap is up! It's turning out to be another telenovela where I'm not into the lead couple at all. I think Miguel and Luciana fit much better together so far. David is one of the most un-entertaining telenovela characters ever. Hopefully he gets some help with the depression soon. Cesar and Susan seemed like a breath of fresh air, and in another sense, so did the introduction of the evil plot to turn the vineyard into an olive oil production thingamabob.

Thanks, dy77. Terrific job. Crazy lady alert! -- lol

I actually don't mind Juan selling the vineyard out from under David. David has dropped the ball on raising his kids (who are hurting too from losing their mom) and on putting a muzzle on Lillian. Plus, he leaves Miguel on his own to fight the good fight for good grapes. Yeah, Juan steal him blind!

Gracias, dy77 and good work.

95% of the world's olives are grown around the Mediterranean so David's earlier objection to growing olives was sensible. Unless there is expertise to provide a seriously niche epicurean type this would not be very profitable.

Sonia is as disgusting as Lillian and worse-dressed. Her being described as "Lillian's right hand" was all Luciana needed to know. So when the competition begins Luciana will have to deal with Sonia and Graciela while still being mooned over by Miguel who has a stalker of his own. Business as usual.

dy, this was wonderful. You explained everything in such great detail, I feel like I missed nothing.

"Turns out bratty Bobby is now gamer Bobby" had me smiling away and was my favorite among many.

"Liliana counters that Marta is there for the luxury". May I state that I loathe Lili???

I suppose in the context of manners, barging into someone else's home is wrong, but I am giving Luciana a full pass. She did mention her mother. Someone, anyone with any sense of compassion would have asked "and your mother is___??"...

I agree with everyone's comments that David needs to "snap out of it" (a la Cher)...His devious MIL having control over his children is nauseating. They need their father who has been absent in every sense of the word...

Disheartening to see the marvelous Veronica as the stone faced humorless Sonia.

I'm still not clear on who all the grown up kids are ('cept Luci and her bro)...It takes me a while to catch on.

UA and Julie, I can't wait to see Gutierrez try and pursue Marta (though he might feel differently after realizing what he did to Marta's family). Just to make Lili turn green of course. I couldn't imagine how she could hate Marta more, but it appeared this could be the trick!

Thought from the beginning that Ramon (hope I have the right name) liked Marta but was purposefully holding back in respect of Marta and her happy marriage.

dy, thank you for sharing your superb writing talents with us!

Diana

Thanks, Dy77. I am confused about all the workers too. There are so many of them and some of the girls kind of look alike. Speaking of which, where is Perla? I haven't seen Perla in a while. Is Erika the same person as Perla?

"Liliana counters that Marta is there for the luxury." Yeah, I heard that, and asked myself, the luxury of what? Listening to Lillian?

Even if olives were a sensible crop for Napa (or Sonoma), I am skeptical that it is easy to switch from grapes to olives without a lot of effort and expense. Even if it's actually very straightforward, it seems like a significant business risk, not to mention kinda stupid for a region that is uniquely suited to GRAPES.

Absolutely. Sonoma and Napa are known for their wines and to do anything else would be a stupid and expensive risk.

Diana, you're right. Ramon is the guy who looked sweet on Marta and was the father of the youngest boy in the opening episode. I think that's Carlos.

Great job, dy77. Now I am ready to watch tonight!

Steve, the 108 year World Series drought is finally over. Thanks!

Julie: Sonia, Perla, Juan, Graciela, Lillian, etc., will be getting their anvils at the end.

But until then, we will have to endure watching the villains winning non-stop 24/7!

Perla was the girl in the brunette little dress sliming over Juan. She wanted to take their booty call public but he was like Naw and made up an excuse about David not liking fraternization between the workers.

Carito is the plain girl was was trying to slime over Miguel last night but he paid her dust. She was the one lurking in the vines spying on Miguel and Luciana walking down the path.

Quite frankly, I'd rather see a Susan/David matchup and leave Luciana to Miguel. But I think Susan is for Cesar.

I know who Carito is. I am trying to figure out if Perla and Erika are the same person.

Julie, "I know who Carito is. I am trying to figure out if Perla and Erika are the same person".

You are way ahead of me. I don't know who any of them are or even recognize any of their names! :) Missing last night did not help. At all.

Diana

Not the same person and I think some of the recap refers to Perla (when young was the one who told Juan she wanted to be a secretary and was always snotty towards Luciana). So pretty sure she's the one in Juans office and possibly the talk with Carito - I'd have to see it again. IMDB has Perla at 54 episodes and Erika at 15 so Perla is the more major character here.

Thanks for the wonderful recapping, DY77!

Someone mentioned about olives not being grow here in California. Not true: Olives are grown throughout Central California and in Marin, Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino Counties. It is common to olives being grown here in California. They are even grown in Texas and Arizona.

Late to the party but thank you dy

"Marta wails"

This show has spent way too much time on Marta already. Let other folks have some screen time particularly since all she does is wail. It's hard for me to feel sympathetic and sure don't believe she was soooooo in love with Marcos at the end. They never saw each other so he was like a distant cousin.

I also hope David loses everything, he doesn't do anything but huff and puff and cry.

Thanks, Jo! Maybe I can tell them apart if I see them side-by-side.

Thanks for the olive info, Cynthia. It still seems like a crazy idea to ditch a successful wine business in favor of olives, though. I mean, unless they owe olives a favor or something!

Good recap dy77. Thank you much. I would
Really like for marta to be "in your face" like luciana. Its like she wimps out when lillian
Comes around. What I woukd have liked to have seen her light into lilly's behind and
Blame it on grief. No one would blame her.
She got overwhelmed and lost it. Surely davi
Would understand, hes been attackin people
Since lisa's murder by little sis.

He really needs to get our of this black funk
Hes in, Im tired of seeing it. His bff and the ma Inlaw from hell is about to sell his lifes work Right our from under him. SNAP OUT OF IT ALREADY!!!!!!

OK, maybe tonight will be better. Thanks again for the recap dy77, it was good.

Nina: Fernanda is likely becoming Aranza 2.0 as her attitude & hostility gets worse!

Thank you, Dy. I was not able to watch this episode. It sounds as though the evil forces are lining up. Frustrating.

Susanlynn: Fair Warning expect the villains to wreak havoc on Luciana & her family non-stop.

Hey it's wow almost 8 years later and I'm watching a rerun of Vino on Univision and pulled up this recap. How funny that I wrote it! I want to correct it - I thought the character was Erika at the time but having watched the whole show, it's Perla. Hope this helps anyone watching the reruns!

Hi, dy77!

How nice to “see” you; I’m so glad you are still here at Caray! If you’d like to correct the recap, I can give you access again. Just email me at rgvchick627@gmail.com
