Vino el Amor, Viernes 01/20/17 Chapter 58: Witches, Vitches, and Cavemen

Lillian gave Gracie the 1950s talk about her not needing to be a “great artist” as long as she can entrap David. She segues from that into her hatred of Marta, which is great enough for her to shatter an innocent tulip glass filled with good wine. Gracie almost panicked at this.

Sonia served David coffee and told him that Lillian terminated her employment. She explained the circumstances of the situation and started crying. David gave her a table napkin to dry her tears and asked her what the issue was between Lillian and Marta. She told him she suspected it was jealousy because his children love Marta more than their own grandmother. David told her that she should not worry. He appreciated her work and would talk to Lillian and give her her job back. She then truly debased herself by getting on her knees to thank him, addressing him as “Mi Señor” and taking his hand as she thanked him. She told him she didn't want to be far from the vineyard, the children, or him. He was clearly uneasy with this as he got her to stand, telling her there was no need to show appreciation that way. She hugged him for a second or two too long, thanking him for his generosity as she inhaled the scent of his hair and fondled his left shoulder. [Okay, Sonia, does he wear Armani, Chanel, or Calvin Klein? Enquiring female minds want to know.] David looked as though he were a little creeped out by all this. [Seriously, Sonia, if you stopped stalking David and would only demonstrate your intelligence and refinement you might actually have a chance.]

Marta told her she wasn't thinking of murder but couldn't help expressing herself about this. When Gracie told her she was too impulsive, Lillian counter-accused her of the same. [A definite sign of her narcissism]. She then tried to start another argument as she picked up the bottle to drink directly from it, but Gracie took it away from her and put it aside.
Just as David came out onto the porch, noticed the broken glass, and said, “Madam, we have to talk.” He told her that she was unjustified at firing Sonia just because she was having a conversation with Marta in her room. Sonia spoke of her loyalty to David and his children. He told Sonia she could get back to work, then had to prevent her again from the antiquated display of gratitude. Gracie gloated slightly at this. Sonia went back into the house and David told Lillian he wanted the conflicts with Marta to end. Gracie then interrupted with “But my mother is your children's grandmother and whenever she tries to get close to your children, Marta intervenes.” Lillian then asked David to help her. David looked suspicious.

At the employees' table Perla talked about there being a ghost in the wine cellar. Léon almost choked on his food, Miguel and Tano dismissed this as nonsense, Marta told her not to talk about such things, and Ramón said something about thinking that the missing girl is somewhere in the vineyard. Léon got up from the table, saying he had lost his appetite, and he would eat later. Carito brought up the bathroom incident, which provoked questions from Marta. Léon said the water wasn't good in the men's shower, which Marta didn't excuse. He then announced he had a lot of work to do, then left. Marta's cell rang and Brian told her he had to go to Tijuana for a few days to negotiate the cooperation of the Mexican government to catch the smugglers. He had a surprise for her as well, which was that Luciana would have her work visa in a couple of days. She ended the call thrilled to pieces, then told a very happy Luciana.
Sourpuss faces appeared on Perla and Carito as Marta hugged Luciana and Luciana talked about doing a gesture of gratitude for Brian's help. Marta suggested that they all go to dinner together, Luciana talked about a gift she bought in Mexico. All this to happen after Brian returns from Mexico. Miguel was happy for them, Carito and Perla were exchanging sour grapes and Marta told them to quit spitting venom to ruin this happy moment.

David told Lillian that he doesn't tell his children whom to love. “This will only depend on you.” When Lillian almost began whining he told her that all he expected of his children was to respect her, but she would have to earn their affection. Gracie did not dispute any of this; she even seemed to enjoy her mother's dilemma. In fact, when he went back inside she laughed. She even applauded, speculating that David might not trust her mother anymore. Lillian picked up the bottle again and again Gracie took it away from her and returned it to the table. She suggested that Lillian tell David about Marta's involvement with Fernando. However, whatever little British is in her would not allow Lillian to lose face over that. Gracie didn't buy it, and Lillian ended the conversation by saying “You don't know anything”, taking the bottle, and returning inside.

Miguel suggested they party to celebrate Luciana's visa. This pleased everyone except the two Mean Girls who refused Marta's request to prepare the food for it. They left the room together as it was decided who would string the lights and provide the music. Miguel picked up Luciana a couple of times, spun around, and said Léon will be so happy when he hears this.

Sonia sang to herself while preparing food in the main house kitchen while Bobby was grazing at the fruit. Bobby asked her why she was singing and she told him it was because she felt important.
Everything indicates that I will be here for a long time. Prince Charmings do exist,” she told him as she tried to kiss him. Lillian entered the kitchen and Bobby noticed.”
Witches, too,” he said as he left.
Lillian tried to get on Sonia's case for running to David, but Sonia told her she always had her loyalty.

César was having coffee in town with Susan and telling her that violent men don't change overnight. She told him she couldn't take the idea of having Mark under the same roof. César suggested she pack her things and move in with him where she will be safe. She started crying, he started embracing her, and Mark appeared out of nowhere. A fight began before the eyes of at least six witnesses.

Fernanda found Gracie on the porch asking her help for getting her ready for the party. Gracie told her she wouldn't be able to because of her artistic commitment, as she would have to be at the gallery. The brat was disappointed as usual that her wishes were being back-burnered, but Gracie said she would do what she could. She made Fernanda promise that she wouldn't let David be alone with Luciana. Fernanda went into the house and Gracie called Joselo. She wanted him to change the date of the exhibition because “My family needs me now.” [Like another frost on the grapes if you ask me.] He refused, telling her she needed to be there in the morning, full stop. [Tough noogies, Succubus].

Mark had knocked César to the ground, leaving his nose bloody. An English-language argument ensued which showed Mark's true colors to any English speaker. This ended with César calling the police on his cell as Mark threatened to break his legs as he forced Susan away from the scene with his dominant hand on the back of her head.

David was sitting outside while looking at documents and photos as Luciana ran up to him with the good news. He picket her up and spun around as Miguel did. When he put her back on her feet he said “Then you will always be here.”

In contrast to David's restraint Mark forced Susan back to the vineyard as she asked “How can I trust you to change when you behave like this?” He denied any responsibility for this. Same old song in a different venue; nothing new here except that when Mark asked her who César was she explained that he was a doctor and a friend of David.

David and Luciana had the same conversation as usual about being happy apart because of his children. Do we need to repeat it here? A sacrifice made for love is not a sacrifice. [¡Ay, por favor!]

Léon brought food to Ingrid (possibly the food he didn't eat before) and she enjoyed it. He told her his mother was a great cook. She found the romance novel corny, which disappointed him. He told her that he would talk to his boss after the vendimia, but she didn't want him to. Léon explained that he knows the police lieutenant who helped his sister get her visa. Ingrid was still doubtful.

Juan called the little vitches into his office to tell them that there would be no more illegals coming in for a while because of the police investigation. They were to stay away from the current ones. Carito became concerned about whether they would have enough to eat. Juan told her not to worry because he would take care of it. [We all know he would have a different definition of that.] They were to say nothing of this to anyone. Perla began looking suspicious.

Adolfo and Erika dined in the only steakhouse in the area talking about the vendimia. She mentioned that Miguel's girlfriend would be there. He asked what she planned to do about it and the answer was that she would deal with this as he had taught her to deal with everything, to fight for Miguel. Adolfo told her she should not have to do this, as she was pretty and smart. [Every man should feel this way about his daughter; he's too good for Lillian.]

Léon and Miguel went to the wine cellar where Léon introduced him to Ingrid and asked his help. Miguel was irritated at first, then concerned about this situation in view of the police investigation. Léon told Ingrid to explain what was going on. She started telling him about the men and two girls.

David breakfasted with his family at a round table outside. They talked about the vendimia and taking care of the vines so that they will produce another good harvest in the next year. Bobby confided that he had nightmares about Luciana not being allowed to stay. David gave him the good news which provoked the highly predictable sourpuss reactions from the Witch and the Succubus. David said that the lieutenant helped and “That's one less family separated.”
The boys got up and left the table, leaving the junior-league version of the Mundo de Fieras trio to vitch and moan. Lillian said “I must have done something very bad in a previous life to deserve this karma.” [Yes, Vitch Mayor, Karma is a bigger bitch than you are!] She tried to reassure Fernanda that things will eventually go their way. After Fernanda left the table she told Gracie that her paintings had better fetch a good price “Because your place is here with David.” [In a pig's eye.]
This continued as a strained conversation in which Gracie seemed to realize that Lillian was now expecting her to be another Lisa. She didn't want to end up like Lillian. She also wasn't sure that anything had actually happened between Marta and Fernando, saying those were only rumors. She finally got up and left the table, leaving Lillian alone. Lillian took out her cell and called someone named Robert to get him to change his mind about supporting Brian's campaign for sheriff and to tell him to spread the word. She then called someone named Diane and did the same.

Ingrid finished her tale of mistreatment and Miguel explained that she needed to report this. The police were out to catch the traffickers and she should not worry about being deported. This would happen after the vendimia. He promised to keep the secret while jokingly reproaching Léon for not having told him sooner. Miguel left and Ingrid hugged Léon to thank him. He looked a little surprised. Hmmmm......

Erika, true to her word, went to the Robles fermentation facility to confront Luciana. She first revealed herself to be a wine snob then to be competition for Miguel “because I liked what I saw at first sight.” Luciana was irritated. Erika said she was just being upfront with her and it's a shame that Miguel is between them because they could otherwise have been such good friends. [¡Que mosca muerta!]

Lillian must have the most powerful cell phone battery in the world because she had spent all this time calling everyone on her contact list telling lies about Brian to remove his support base. On the latest call she told a man named Patrick “I'm so pleased my granddaughter is friends with Peter,” which will ultimately alienate her from Fernanda. Sonia arrived at the tail end of this call, poured her another glass of wine. Lillian had a few short words for her before going back inside,

Carito delivered bottles of cold water to the workers We flies on the wall wonder why she has to carry them in a milk cart when she doesn't have the muscles of Tano or Miguel, who was working shirtless – again – when she got to him. After taking a long drag he poured some of the cold water over himself and we flies have a good laugh at her disquietude.

Fernanda came back to the house looking for her cell phone. Gracie told her she thought she left it on the breakfast table. She apologized for her inability to change the date of her exhibition and reminded her to keep that scheming Luciana away from her father.

Good luck, Succubus because Luciana got the same Chica's Eye View of that hot dude that Carito got of Miguel.

Thanks, Urban! Just finished the ep! Ugh! Mark and Susan's scenes are infuriating! Cesar got a first-hand demonstration of Susan's problem. Let's see what the police do to that knuckle-dragger!

Lillian lives up to her promise to pull the rug out from under Gut. He seemed so unconcerned about her threats, does Gut have an ace up his sleeve? How Lillian relished making those calls. The way she treated Sonia, too. So vile. It's a wonder she doesn't poison herself! What a BITCH!

Also maddening is the way DisGracie stomped on Fernanda's excitement about stomping the grapes, totally twisting Luciana's honest intent in inviting Fer to participate in this tradition. Satisfied with having sufficiently deflated Fer, she saunters off. What a WITCH!

Miguel's understanding after the shock of meeting Ingrid was a heart-warming balance to these scenes from the Witch, Vitch and Caveman. Great title. See y'all later.

Both Lillian and Gracie are emotional vampires. They feel off others' misery.

Brian will get a nasty surprise when he gets back but it won't take him or Marta long to figure out what happened. He has another anvil waiting over his head named Luciana, who will out him as the guy who deported her. Would it be a stretch to connect that with her father's too-early death?

Good one Urban, thanks.

I loved the look on David's face during the Huggarama with sniffing. Any man with even one testi...you know..can feel the difference in a hug and a melt, and Sonia turned into one smoldering lump of soft clay. I really like Sonia because she is so dam freakishly funny. If Dav--eeed needs help getting over Lisa, pick Sonia, not Lisa's sister. No man worth having wants to be worshiped, but Sonia could grow out of it with a little Luuuurve..

Thanks again

And another thing, I call Bullpoopie on Lillian being able to have any real effect on Brian's campaign. Sure, she may know one or two influential people, but no more. Most of the people who would be major players are also smart enough to see through her very thin veil of niceness and would not give her the sweat off their bal...era toy

Thank you so much UA.

"Seriously, Sonia, if you stopped stalking David and would only demonstrate your intelligence and refinement you might actually have a chance" No joke

"A sacrifice made for love is not a sacrifice. [¡Ay, por favor!]" Aargh, again with the pretzel logic. I can't help but see David as either her father or favorite uncle who is giving her his blessing to marry the neighborhood boy. There is no chemistry, no edge of my seat, no longing looks, no soaring music, nothing but run to David, he pat her on the head and she runs off again.

Well Erica may have done David a favor. Luciana doubles down with Miguel when Graciela does something that makes her jealous and she gets angry with David so if Erica is making a play for Miguel she'll be angry with Miguel and run to David.

Now I know the reason Brian mentioned amnesty for any illegal migrant that helped bust up the trafficking ring. Just hope nothing happens to Ingrid before she can tell her tale to Brian.

Why couldn't Erica have seen David first and get a crush on him. I'd like to watch that catfight with Luciana.

Hope Cesar follows through against Mark even if Susan gets frightened and supports Mark.

Thank you, Urban.

I only have a minute, but I had to say that Marked hit the wrong guy. Cesar is the type of guy who calls the police instead of hitting you back. However, abusive guys need someone to give them a taste of their own medicine. Yeah, you are a Big man , hitting a woman . Jerk.

Miguel + water bottle - shirt = flashdance. #math

Tofie " against Mark even if Susan gets frightened and supports Mark"

Unlike the discussion the other day on the subject, I have intervened in so many domestic disputes and in a shockingly high number of them had both parties wanting to kill me in short order. I can't explain it, and it does not mean the abused was a willing participant, but many times I have had both of them after me with butcher knives or baseball bats when all I wanted to do was stop a Mark from beating some Susan to within an inch of her life.

Anonymous, the police officers I know say exactly what you said.

I was not making it up. I'm not a policeman, just a kinda big guy and I will not stand around and see someone mistreated. Thankless as it is. ? ? ?

Thank you UA for your hard work on this recap. My favorite part:

“Everything indicates that I will be here for a long time. Prince Charmings do exist,” she told him as she tried to kiss him. Lillian entered the kitchen and Bobby noticed.”
“Witches, too,” he said as he left.

Another part I enjoyed was when Marta and the others were talking about having a celebration party and both Carito and Perla had nothing but bad things to say. Marta's response to them was, "I'm not going to let your viperous talk (poisonous words) ruin our celebration."

Well I hope that we see Mark in jail soon. Would somebody please kill him and put him out of his misery?

Also, Erica seems like the kind of woman who will get her man. Let us see what happens in the future. I am wondering if she will end up with Miguel since Luciana just isn't that into Miguel. I just don't see a future with Miguel and Luciana.

How dare DisGracie ruin the Vendimia celebration festival for Fernanda? She is such a horrible deceitful person who can only seek to possess and oppress everyone around her. UA, when you call her a succubus, you have it right on the money.

Thanks for your recap UA. I don't have anything to add to what has been said by other commenters, so just know that the recap was really appreciated.
Helen

So let's put something never heard of in this TN to work...logic.

Now just deal with Mark Why do I think of a laser dot on his forehead when I hear the word 'Mark'?
OK, moving on, now Tano is under threat of going to prison for thirteen lifetimes for possibly mentioning off hand that he'd like to punch in Mark's face. Right? More or less?

Now aforementioned Mark whose well being and it seems life, nonetheless is in jeopardy because of a lovesick teenager, Tano , has in fact seriously punched in the face of a local Doctor. I would put money that said local Doctor might have the resources and inclination to actually have Mark thrown in jail.

So wazzs up? Next episode, right?

Cesar should be in a pretty foul mood already when it comes to other men and women and matters of the heart, given "THE KISSSSS" So if he doesn't come looking for mark after Calif's 3 day waiting period with a shiny new Smith and Wesson or Sig Sauer something is pretty fishy.

And Bobby is still my favorite.

Apologies, this is off topic. TRES VECES ANA finishes its run in Mexico this Sunday. Does anybody know if they're showing the same edited episodes they showed in Univision, or if they're been showing an 'extended' cut?
Thanks.

Fabulous UA. What superb writing skills you have.

I had to smile at Sonia's heartfelt hugging of David. I cannot fault her for totally milking the situation for everything it was worth and for giving that bulging bicep an appreciative squeeze. You bring up an excellent point that Sonia could be formidable competition for David if she would just be her quirky, charming self. "[Seriously, Sonia, if you stopped stalking David and would only demonstrate your intelligence and refinement you might actually have a chance]" was insightful and true.

I enjoyed Erica's frankness and her observation she and Luci would have been friends if not for Miguel. Disappointing Luci and David are mired in quicksand with no forward movement. David need to extricate himself and get going.

Lili has eroded all Brian's support with a few quick calls. And now, when he returns he will face a celebratory dinner where he will likely come face to face with the truth - namely, Luci. Will the fates intervene to postpone the dinner and their meeting? Very, very likely.

Thank you UA!

Diana

Gracias, UA.

Now that I've finally seen this episode I'm going to give it points for actually letting Lilian be a villain, even if entirely on the woman-scorned side of the fence, and David's epic "...the heeeell?" face when Sonia was sniffing him. And half a point for establishing that (o hai) Mark is apparently the Randy Orton of this fakakta show: he pops up out of nowhere.

UA: Gutierrez is in for Karma very soon!

Kirby: FerBrat needs anvils quickly!

Thanks, Urban.

Kirby, shame on you for mentioning the "L" word. We can't afford to think logically about the major plot points of this story. It will just confuse us!

That said, it would be nice to see Mark thrown in jail. I'd like to see what his entitled attitude and poor interpersonal skills earn him in such an environment.

Julie.."poor interpersonal skills"...that is putting it very politely. Jail could give this guy a quick attitude adjustment.

Thanks, Urban. “My family needs me now.” [Like another frost on the grapes if you ask me.]" - lol!

I almost felt sorry for Graciela. What a beyotch Lilian is. I'm starting to think Lilian would not be devastated to know Graciela murdered Lisa. Lisa was her favorite only because she married well.

Kudos to David telling Lilian he'd see that his kids respected her, but the rest was up to her.

One of the witnesses to Mark's attack was recording it. In real life, if I'd seen Mark's attack and seen Susan then walk off with him, leaving Cesar there, I would've wondered if Cesar was the bad guy and Mark was the knight. I know Susan is suffering from battered syndrome, but it hurt seeing her only pleading “stop!” while Cesar was being bludgeoned. How about picking up a glass or a plate or something and whacking Mark on the back of the head?

Julie: FerBrat is an ungrateful, spoiled, entitled little brat. I wonder how long before Marta goes bezerk & slaps the twit ?

Niecie I'd betcha Cesar has a better attorney than Mark The Puncher. As a matter of fact is NoJuan Mark the Puncher's attorney? If not, I am thinking he is big buddies with MTP's attorney.

Steve there are so many enormous anvils circling around up there it must look like the 'departing flights' line at the airport recently. I am surprised a couple have not bumped and knocked each other out of orbit.

I am convinced that Lillian killed her husband for his perceived involvement with Marta, and I think she is seriously considering killing Marta now over Brian. She is not nappy unless she is miserable, and really into sharing. (The misery) If Lillian and Graciela are both cold blooded murderers, DisGrace has a much better facade.

Urban good recap. Thank you much. Now I had to laugh out loud at these poor hard workin men going shirtless cuz they're just swetting so hard.Not. I see no swet nowhere on these men. And
One of the recaper's husband said they
Are the cleanest workers he's ever seen. I totally agree. They can at least have a set person come around and spritz em, and dirty them up just alittle, ya know? to make it look like its believable. Lol, Davy & mig walkin
Around the grapes flexing the tanned
Muscles, and then Lucy goes over and
Touch the same bunch of grapes dave's got his fingers on, these two are so seriously funny. How do they hold a straight face? And how is fer going to
Keep daddy Davy & lucy apart with all that hot passion blowin through the
Grapevines?(Thank you Marvin gaye!).

I feel kind of sorry for sue, she's in a pickle, a very sour one. Somebody's gonna wind I dead, I hope it's not her.
Like little Bobby said in not so many words, "granny's a witch".
I hope the gutman wins the election just so he Can arrest Lillian nasty butt. And as for the kids respecting her, dat ain't gonna happen.

Kirby: Your theory about Lillian killing Don Fernando does appear to be a good possibility based on the perceived involvement with Marta.

Marta needs to WATCH HER BACK because this is starting to get out of control.

FerBrat could have these same tendencies in regards to Tano, etc.,

Nina: I also hope Susan doesn't end up dead, but I'm thinking Ingrid might be the one, who ends up 6 feet under.

Urban--Thanks for the Friday Night Lights. Sorry I haven't commented until now. Busy weekend. I did want this episode to end on a lighter note than what Steve seems to revel in.

Unfortunately, things seem to be getting darker on all fronts, especially for poor Susan. I never thought the witnesses or police might suspect Cesar as the aggressor, including overhearing the words exchanged by the two men.

Ingrid in danger. Yep
Marta getting angry. Yep, at Gut after his involvement in Marcos and Luci's deportation is revealed.
Gutierrez losing support. Yep, thanks to Lilian.
Gracie annoyed. Yep, at Lilian for all her nagging.
Me disgusted. Yep, at Luciana, David and Miguel. Resolve it once and for all. OTOH, can't wait until tonight.
