Vino el Amor, Viernes 2/3/17 Chapter 68: 10,000 Pieces of Silver

Just the facts, peeps:

We come back to David telling Miguel he loved Luciana and will fight for her. Miguel told him he wouldn't make it easy for him, accusing him of wanting to leave. David said he wasn't going to ask him to but if he wanted to it was his decision. Miguel said he was going, then walked out the door.

Lillian walked in on Bobby playing his video game and tried to give him cookies, but he wasn't interested; Marta had already given him some. She tried a little harder but as with DisGracie the previous episode, they had no interests in common. Lillian looked frustrated.

David sat in the dark which became darker when DisGracie entered and turned the light on. She asked what was wrong and he told her about the $10K fine he was facing, including that Miguel and León offered to pay it. And that Miguel had threatened to leave. DisGracie pretended to be shocked, finally insinuating that all the workers would know about it by now. David said it was likely only to be León, Marta, and Luciana. DisGracie had The Look.

León told Marta and Luciana about this. Marta got upset. Miguel came back and knocked over a chair. He told Luciana that David fired him to get him out of the way so he could pursue her. [Lying like that is not like Miguel]. Luciana couldn't believe this, finally saying that he had to be wrong and this was not good. Miguel finally said to her that they should talk about this later and left the kitchen. Luciana called after him. Marta prevented her from following him only to have her say she would see David about this. Marta sent León to stop her before this got any worse.

DisGracie started calling David's workers a bunch of ingrates. The succubus kept her icy cool, touching David's arm as though to leech out his warmth when he mentioned Luciana's name. This caused him to get up and say he didn't want to talk about this. She changed the subject with a suggestion they go to dinner and talk about making money. He tried to avoid this, but she got him to agree.

Fernanda skyped with her friends, telling them about the time in the distillery with Tano, including the exchange with Luciana. She finished saying that Bobby is right, that Luciana isn't a bad person.

León was not able to catch his sister. Marta got anxious about the $10K that León promised to pay.

Susan and Tano had an awkward conversation in the distillery.

DisGracie and David were talking about her being a full partner and something about Spain. They drank to it and Luciana barged in, demanding to know why he fired Miguel. David told her he didn't fire Miguel; Miguel resigned. DisGracie smirked behind Luciana's back. Luciana said that firing Miguel was unfair. David tried explaining it to her and a few statements later realized that Luciana knew nothing about Ingrid until after she was on her way. DisGracie tried to goad her by making fun of her defending Miguel, but Luciana didn't fall into the trap. Luciana said that Miguel doesn't need anyone to defend him, finally saying that the reason for this included something she didn't wish to discuss in front of her. She told David they should discuss this later, then left. DisGracie stared at David, who didn't want to look at her face for fear of getting snowblind.

Tano picked up on that Susan must be jealous of Fernanda, whom he tried to describe as a friend. [We're all tired of this, so I will omit the rest of this exchange.] He ended up walking out of the room.

DisGracie verbalized her disapproval of Luciana's talking to David “like that” but said that a woman in love is capable of anything when it came to her man. However, she also told him he should not permit anything like the Ingrid Incident to happen again because it would put his inheritance in danger.

The following morning, Miguel was splitting rails as Luciana brought him some coffee. He wasn't in the mood, saying he needed to decide what to do. /she insisted on telling him she spoke to David, which only made him angry. When Luciana pointed out that David didn't dismiss him Miguel said that he had be left no choice. David wanted to keep them apart. Luciana denied this but this only made Miguel accuse her of wanting David.

DisGracie went into the family room to take her leave of her faaaaaaamily because she would be in Spain for a few days. Bobby asked about Cristiano and Fer begged her not to stay away long. Lillian told her daughter she would take care of everything. Her facial expression – unseen by the children – was of clear distaste at having to deal with them. DisGracie assured Fer she wouldn't be away long, telling her to take care of her father, and ended with whispering to her to remember what that included.
The two kids left for school.. Lillian told her spawn she shouldn't forget her objectives with David and DisGracie told her not to worry because she had made progress and that David had just had a fight with Luciana.
Lillian told her that this meant nothing, but DisGracie told her that when she returns from Spain with lots of dinero that will score points with David. Of course, Lillian got a few digs in about “I never thought you'd have to buy him” and suggested she do more feminine things. DisGracie swallowed some irritation and told her that with her on her side and helping brainwash the brats, they will accomplish this. Her cell rang and she noticed there was a message from Juan wanting to see her in his office. DisGracie talked of them acquiring more power and isn't that what you want? She left and Lillian had a sick look on her face.

On the employees' porch Miguel and Luciana continued arguing about Erika and her and how she isn't the same anymore. He seemed to realize that she didn't love him as he loved her. She told him he was hanging onto a memory of youthful dreams and a lot has happened in her life since then. She said “Yo te quiero” but the problem is that it wasn't “Yo te amo”. He sounded like he was about to cry as he talked about how this broke his heart. He hit the wall in frustration and anger and she started crying.
Luciana apologized, and Miguel told her to be honest with herself. He kissed her hand and walked away.

DisGracie and Juan argued about money she owed him; the deposit was insufficient. She told him she was making progress and David would soon be hers. He didn't believe her and gave her the same argument Lillian did about her relationship with the children doesn't mean anything about this. DisGracie told him that David and Luciana just had an argument about Miguel and the immigrant girl. Juan wasn't about to be dissuaded and DisGracie was getting tired of the blackmail. He had other irons in the fire and this was going to be her last chance to save their alliance.
He then did something very stupid in telling DisGracie that he felt the need to diversify. She tried to get him to talk about it but he refused on the grounds that it had nothing to do with the vineyard. He did point out that if she couldn't catch David by the cojones that she and her mother would not make out on this deal.

Perla came back from buying a new cell phone and she handed a letter to Carito, asking why her mother doesn't e-mail her instead. Carito said it was because she didn't know how and didn't have a computer at home. That gave Perla more ammunition to say that Carito needed the money she would earn in the trafficking scheme. She almost begged her to stay, but Carito didn't promise to stay more than a few days [which we know is just long enough to get into major trouble]. Perla accused her of being stubborn and told her that she needed her, that she was her only family. They talked about Perla having Juan [which Carito doesn't know the half of that story] and Perla talked about Carito someday having Miguel. Carito said that she doesn't want Miguel for his money and Perla denied that this was the root of her relationship with Juan [which she doesn't know is that she was easy]. Carito told her she doesn't understand the meaning of Juan's expectations of her. Perla changed the subject and asked whether she had seen Susan. Carito wondered why and Perla gave her a non-answer. She finally told her that Mark expected her to spy on Susan. Carito said that it was a good thing he was in jail which is where he should be after what he did to Susan. This was interrupted by Marta, who wanted to talk to Carito alone. Perla got up and left. Marta said she was concerned about the $10K.

Tano offered to help the guys pay off the $10K [which would probably take longer than the finale of this series] and Miguel told him he'd take it as a loan. He had decided to stay until this was paid off but wasn't sure how he would be able to handle it.

Luciana went to the main house and apologized for her previous outburst. David reiterated that he didn't fire Miguel and not for the reasons she thought. She said she was tired of the arguments with the two of them. She was tired of being in the middle. “Of what? Two men who are both in love with you?” was his reply.
David told her he wanted them to be together but there were things to resolve first. [SSDD] There were too many things working against them. Luciana said she had been determined to find happiness with Miguel but every time she talked to him (David) she would be confused. She thought her mother was right and that she should just go it alone. She left David standing alone on the porch.

Marta and Carito talked about the $10K and Carito said she would give her savings. [Please, let someone figure out that this is a scheme of Juan's. Why would he even allow this if he were any kind of a lawyer?] Carito admitted not being happy and missing her family. Marta told her to stop listening to Perla and to listen to her heart about this.

Juan talked to Mark on the phone, telling him to calm down. He didn't want to risk David finding out that he was helping him. [At least we now know where the $10K is going]. After ending this conversation with his warning that Mark would have to stay away from Susan he ended the call and Lillian walked in. She didn't like the idea that DisGracie was going to Spain and seemed to have figured out that she had been lying about her progress in entrapping David. “This is not the time!” Juan mentioned the Miguel issue and Lillian really almost lost it. With him also gone there would be nothing to stop David and Luciana from becoming their least favorite couple. Juan told her that he was taking [unspecified] precautions. Lillian had no patience for his games and walked out.

Sonia was writing on the chalkboard in the employees' kitchen when León found her. They talked about the $10K. She told him that this was what he got for rescuing another princess. [Someone please break out the giggle jacket]. She said something about always wanting to go out with a bad boy. He started getting impatient with this and tried to get away. She told him that if they were to recover she would be his heroine and they would find a way to recover the money.

DisGracie took her leave of the others, telling the kids that when she came back they would plan a family vacation. Another reminder from Bobby about stuff from Cristiano and she told him to take care of his father and his sister. Lillian made a point of saying they'll have a big dinner to celebrate her successes. She embraced her and DisGracie whispered something about possible loss and not returning. She left [and maybe we'll be lucky to not have to see her for the next few capitulos].

León could barely believe what he just heard. He told her he would pay her back. He grabbed her and kissed her, shocking himself as well as her. It hardly qualified as a novela kiss and she had pictured something much more spectacular. She finally walked out, leaving him more confused than before.

Luciana found Miguel testing the wine in the cellar. More dancing around the problem.

Marta was praying in the kitchen when Lillian walked in and deliberately almost slammed the door. She just showed up to watch her suffer. She goaded her about the $10K, saying she deserved this for attempting to steal Gutiérrez.

More from Miguel about wanting to spend the rest of his life with Luciana. Complete with tears. [This must be the longest break-up in novela history.]

Wonderful UA! It was great to see this right after the Pacific time showing of Vino. I absolutely ADORE your title to today's show.

I am still feeling flustered over this $10,000 fine. People just don't receive a $10,000 in the mail like a parking ticket! Why isn't David smart enough to figure out he's being hoodwinked on this? He did attend some university and most likely has a bachelors degree. Somewhere along the line he must have learned how the law works. I have a degree in Business Accounting but I believe that all Business majors have to take Business Law. Anyway, it was obvious that Juan is using this money to bail out Mark and who knows what else. As a business owner, David can't be that oblivious to how the laws work.

Goodbye Miguel. Have a good life with Erica. I think Erica will LOVE (amar) Miguel. He just doesn't do it for Luciana. She "likes" him a lot but isn't in love with him like she is with David.

UA, you continue to raise the bar higher with each successive episode.

Like Cynthia, I thought your title inspired. "The succubus kept her icy cool, touching David's arm as though to leech out his warmth when he mentioned Luciana's name" had me smiling in admiration.

This episode was riddled with frustrating events, but none more so from me than "Tano picked up on that Susan must be jealous of Fernanda, whom he tried to describe as a friend". I actually scowled when I saw that. She knows she is wrong for Tano and rather than being happy he has a chance with someone on his emotional and age appropriate level, she actually pouted in a very unbecoming jealous manner. Talk about Tano! Susan is the one who needs to grow up.

I am sympathetic in that Miguel sees his lifelong dream of being with Luciana vanish like a whiff of smoke. But now he knows the truth and he needs to accept, suck it up and move on with his life. Luciana has faced its harsh reality and needs to let go of her guilt. Had she lied and told Miguel she felt something she didn't, it would be all the more painful for Miguel when she did try to extricate herself. Still, Luci refuses to accept that she is starting to love David.

I have to timidly say that I think the entire Ingrid episode threw David for a loop and the origin of the fine isn't coming under his radar. Now, does Cesar know? He seems to let little escape him and he will likely (and hopefully) question this when he finds out.

I am looking forward to Tano and Fer, Miguel and Erica and yes, Luci and David. Leon and Sonia have me completely confused at this point (although Sonia is still delightful). The kiss he gave Ingrid looked pretty emotional, the kiss he gave Sonia was one you'd give a distant relative. I'm a bit lost here.

Grateful we didn't see Mark or Brian last night.

UA, thanks for the wonderful summary.

Diana

Fact is this is great UA. Thank you

"Lying like that is not like Miguel"

No it's not but I understand his frustration.

Again, so much time spent on the break up is more galan/protag than second tier lowmance. Miguel will distract himself with Erika and Luciana will explore her crush on David but they realize together they should be with a wedding at the end capped with David's blessing. Unless they all along intended to replace the Dave doll batteries and Irina Baeva can feign romantic chemistry with GS it'll be a hard sell.

Hey Tano, child, if you're listening, Susan is CRAZY.

Graciela, the eternal optimist, despite David's strait forward declaration of love for Luciana, is enthused her dream at hand. I wonder if the drugs she's on have any nasty side effects.

"Hey Tano, child, if you're listening, Susan is CRAZY."

Exactly. It takes two to be in a relationship,

even an abusive one.

OT I don't know if anyone watched "Waking up With You", but it was over last night and I have to say a much better TN than this one There wasn't a dry eye when Grampa Silvestre passed, and the real Final lasted 8 or 9 episodes rather than the last 20 minutes as normal. And you did not have to believe Pigs Fly to buy into the plot.

Thanks, Urban. David sat in the dark which became darker when DisGracie entered and turned the light on. - ha!

Wow, Susan needs therapy bad.

I feel for Miguel too. But now that he and Luciana have faced the painful truth and cried it out, I hope we're at a new stage. He has every right to be sad, but this guilt tripping her must stop.

Urban, when you said this: "Lillian walked in on Bobby playing his video game and tried to give him cookies, but he wasn't interested; Marta had already given him some. She tried a little harder but as with DisGracie the previous episode, they had no interests in common. Lillian looked frustrated."

I found the conversation quite entertaining because Bobby was just to the point. He asks Lilian if she likes video games and soccer and tells her straight out, "Well I guess we have nothing in common since you don't like to do any of the things I like to do."

Kirby, yes I was watching Despertar Contigo and saw that Pablo's Grandpa died. It was very sad. I don't know why that show never got recapped. It seemed like such a fun show when I was able to catch it.

Thank you, Urban! I also loved this line:

The succubus kept her icy cool, touching David's arm as though to leech out his warmth when he mentioned Luciana's name.

Man, DisGracie was unrelenting in that scene! Her eyes were glued on David and seemed to bore into him as she spewed that stream of slander against Luciana, Miguel, Marta and indeed all the vinyard workers. . .it's like she was trying to hypnotize him and I think he felt it, too, when he finally broke the spell and stood up, suggesting they talk of other things.

Phew! What an intense, two-day breakup! I stand by my comments of yesterday and Miguel fleshed out his realization that he was alone in his dreams. I like these analyses by my patio pals:

Luciana has faced its harsh reality and needs to let go of her guilt. Had she lied and told Miguel she felt something she didn't, it would be all the more painful for Miguel when she did try to extricate herself. Still, Luci refuses to accept that she is starting to love David. --Diane

I feel for Miguel too. But now that he and Luciana have faced the painful truth and cried it out, I hope we're at a new stage. He has every right to be sad, but this guilt tripping her must stop. --Niecie

Those two comments fit nicely together and I didn't realize until Niece said it that Miguel was guilt-tripping Luci. Yah, that makes sense: it's part of his pressure package that he laid on her as soon as she came back from Mexico.

That said, I don't dislike Miguel and have felt more emphatic for him these last two episodes. I hope he will be more mature than Susan when he sees that Luciana has chosen David. I suspect Erica will help him move on and the break up with Luciana will help him literally move on: it will be easier for him to let go of this life-long dream not seeing Luciana everyday.

I can't believe how successfully Mark has broken one off in everybody with this 10K fine. If they only knew it's to get psycho Mark out of jail! When David finds out what Mark has been doing too him all these years, I think the shame of stupidity will be greater than the rage.

Thanks again, Urban

Thanks, urban, for another excellent review of all the crazy. I missed this episode..Three Dog Night concert instead.

News alert for Luci and Susan..if you do not want the guy..guess what..you cannot be jealous when he pivots and notices another woman. Fair's fair

Loved the screebcaps. I see that vests still rule for Dave. We should have kept up a running count!

Cynthia, My husband is an account, too, and he can never understand folks who do not pay attention to their cash flow! Dave continues the sleepwalking . Despierta , Dave, before everything disappears.

Susanlynn: David needs a CPA around to give him monthly reports on their financial situation. Lawyers do not know how to produce financial reports. Small businesses can use Quickbooks, but even if they are using that, and Juan is entering all the financial data with no accountability, he can get away with all kinds of fraud.

Cynthia.. So true. Dave needs to stop putting his complere trust in one...Juan. Does JuaN do Dave's taxes? Time for an audit. Reading your message was like listening to Hubba. Our lawyer is our friend , and he and hubba have these conversations all the time. They make a good team .

Some of Luciana's confusion and guilt I lay at Marta's feet. Marta is the biggest fan of the pairing and reinforces the futility of an inappropriate relationship with the boss, love be-damned.

That's right, tofie! I hope by being alone, Luci means she will think about her feelings and not go whining to Marta about them. Just give herself time to see what she feels.

I also wouldn't mind if she spent a little time with David either outside in the open, beautiful (and windy) vineyard or even at the house without DisGracie sucking the air out of the room, staring David down and pawing him!

Couple times and again last night, Luciana mentions she struggles with showing emotions and affection, understandable, and likely the real reason she never had a bf we hear about. I recall her bewilderment the first time David kissed her and she told Susan something was different and didn't understand. She's done so much running from him since, is that because of fear of the unknown and if so will she ever allow herself to fall?

Lila..I am sorry that I missed Disgrace trying to do the Vulcan mind meld and put old Dave deeper into a trance than he already is....Hey, maybe she already started practicing her evil spells on Dave long ago and that's why he always looks a little sleepy. Get some fresh air , Dave. Loosen your vest. Drink some coffee. Snap out of it !!! Fight Disgracie's magic powers.

Urban--Your "just the facts" belie extremely good writing. I was definitely not reading a police report of a crime investigation, but a delicious recap of unbelievable "facts" going on in Bodega Los Angeles. Thank you.

Bravo for Miguel. Yes, it's going to hurt. But once he realized that Luci was a waffler, it was up to him to bring things to a head. Otherwise, the arguments and distance would grow and Luci would just dig her heels in and continue to deny feelings for David to Miguel. She would continue to claim that Miguel was the most important person in her life and she couldn't get along without him, while dreaming of some fantasy world with David.

I was very angry with her for AGAIN telling David, who has just declared his love for her and willing to face the obstacles in their paths ahead that she doesn't think it'll work, for the hundredth reason, turn and walk away. How many times can a guy face that rejection?

Luci will never be able to make up her mind if she and Miguel see each other on a daily basis. It will be a constant reminder of how much he has hurt her--and maybe how much she has hurt him. Yes, he does need to leave.

Luci with David in the sunshine, wind and no Gracie, Lila? Hmmm. It brought them together once before, maybe it will serve to dispel Luci's doubts and go for it--if he's still interested.

Tofie--I agree. Marta needs to stay out of this issue. I fear Marta will be the first person Luci runs to for comfort. Is there any one else who understands her dilemma--well, there's Susan, who has been known to dispense good advice from time to time. It's a wait and see game.

I agree, Lila, that until Juan is unmasked, things will never be resolved. He, Lilian and Grace will be able to continue "plotting" against David (which never seems to amount to anything). I also agree, Cynthia and Susanlynn, that David needs an accountant--of his choosing. The writers missed a chance to bring in a new male character with this occupation. Doctors are nice, but they won't save you from fraud.

Lila--From your comment yesterday...I also hope that Brian's quick turn around and seemingly wanting to reconnect with Lilian is some plan for revenge, or at least bringing her role in the deportation out in the open.

It was really Lilian's fault that started this whole ball rolling. True, he wasn't man enough to tell Marta up front, but at the time, Lilian still had him by the short and curlies holding financial support for his campaign over his head. I don't know, though. He may be playing her just to get the financing back on track. If so, he's not worthy of Marta (well, actually I don't see a reconciliation happening for any reason, but, for the sake of argument).

Susanlynn, I tell ya, the actress playing Gracie is killin' it! You can almost see the rotating spirals coming out of her eyes as she mind fu**s David. Jeezo-freakin'-pete!

OT -- Joy to The World; Easy to Be Hard, Mama told me Not to Come Three Dog Night? Girl, you too much! Rock on! Love them boys!

Tofie, I think you got something there. They HAVE mentioned Luci's difficulty expressing her feelings. . .feelings of tenderness and surrender. She did actually bolt after one of her kisses with David. Problem is, she didn't have trouble sucking face with Miguel. . . is that because she was unconsciously doing it to taunt and bait David? Did David's kiss do some "physiological stirring" that Miguel's kiss didn't and thus she was all confused?

I agree with Anita and was disbelieving that Luci walked out after David made (and she admitted this) the first direct declaration of not only his love for her but his willingness to fight for their love! Before she left she quoted Marta saying, "I think my Mom was right. I need to be alone." What the heck does THAT mean? So, Marta's influence is huge and those were Marta's sentiments coming out of her mouth.

Girl. Back up and let your eyes sweep up and down that man! David is FINE! And he needs guidance and somebody to block him from the mesmerizing DisGracie. Take a couple days off after your breakup with Miguel but no more than that and let an undistracted Dave clear your head, babygirl!

I think Luciana was trying with Miguel and while she may have trouble expressing her feelings her hormones moan I'm certain and she could switch off and did. However, not in a million years would Luciana leave David in a room in San Francisco.

Maybe Luci feels safe with old amigo Miguel with whom she may have shared a few chaste kisses when they were younguns. Perhaps, Dave is just too much of a testosterone filled macho man , and she doesn't trust herself with that much heman...nah..just kidding . #vests
Just back from a walk. finally sunny here after weeks of gloom ..but only 30.

OT..Lila...yes, they played all their hits. I thought of our Dave when one of the lead singers told the audience that his wife was 12 years younger than he. Then, he said, "Do you know what's wrong with being married to someone 12 years younger???....nothing !!!!"
I want them to write a new hit entitled "tenderness and surrender."

Anita..You have a way with words.

Susan does sometimes offer good advice..just not to herself . I cannot believe that she spends one moment thinking about Fer and Tano. Let it go.

No, I think this is absolutely it: Perhaps, Dave is just too much of a testosterone filled macho man , and she doesn't trust herself with that much heman.

And tofie is right. If she went to San Francisco with Dave, it wouldn't be her heart she left there!

I say Dave should just get her drunk and seal the deal, then sort it out over a good hangover and coffee.

Note to Luci(d)...Are you sure, you know, for certain, that yore Mama is the very best one to take Luuuurve advice from. Just think about it.

It is too bad Luci does not have a small mean streak to go with all her feistyness (wrong spelling I'm sure) .
She could then partially (as if she needed any more reason) get with David to spite DisGracie.

She sure would if she followed mama's playbook to the letter. Lucky for Luci she doesn't know the truth about what happened with Fernando or how the Gut dalliance began!

Thank you UA, I enjoyed your delicious recap more than this soggy episode. I say soggy, because between Soo-sun and Smuguel crying..I'm surprised my flat screen didn't start weeping. Basta!

Soo-sun is a nut job who needs to stop inflicting her dysfunctional misery on Tano. Get a grip and handle Mark and stop making Tano feel bad for allowing himself to enjoy the company of a young girl who is uncomplicated and free of baggage. Furthermore, closer to his age and able to relate to him.

Am I supposed to feel bad for Smuguel? Well I don't. He may be a very good guy who has a huge heart for those he loves, but he's also a very possessive person. All along he's acted like he was entitled to Lucia even before she returned. All that letter writing between them over the years; he built it up in his head that she was going to be His and that was that. The moment her boots hit that land after years away, she was his be damned he wasn't going to hear anything else. No matter how many times she attempted to get him to slow his roll, he wouldn't stop. It didn't help that he was firmly ensconced with Leon and Marta all those years and had their blessing and firm support that she would be HIS. How was she supposed to fight that? Poor girl, is she a head trip? Sure but what guidance has she had with no mother and it seems very little experience with men. Add to that Miguel just there at the ready to do everything, for her, her family. I'mm surprised she was able to wipe her behind alone. He was just a smothering obsessive and possessive person. So he can suck up his useless tears. Let Ericka have him.

Marta needs to shut her pie hole too..she's been more or less obligating her daughter to Smuguel and then tells her to rethink the marriage. Talk about head games. Lucia grew up largely without a mother to guide her in relationships and I think Lucia is very confused. It seemed from the start she wasn't sure what she was feeling..until David kissed and awakened things in her. Passion..probably something she couldn't define. Marta can't eve handled her own feelings or navigate her men..how can she guide her daughter?

Am I wrong to feel bad for Gutierrez? He was a first class jerk for sure when he met a young Lucia and her father, but I think he regrets it and wants to be a better man for Marta. It's horrible that he's partly responsible for Marta losing years with her daughter and husband, but I sort of hope he gets the girl. Tano's Dad is a very nice man but like with Lucia and Smuguel, if Marta isn't feeling it..she's not feeling it.

I hate when character's in tns settle. I want romance and passion, not relationships that are fueled by pity, guilt and a feeling of obligation.

I'm ready for some David/Lucia heat! I've been patient long enough darn it!

Thanks again UA!

I completely agree that Luciana is confused and likely to be very inexperienced. That is the only area in which DisGracie has an advantage over her.

And what the hell did Miguel do all the years she was away? I doubt that he's a virgin although his job situation and living in what amounts to a dorm doesn't help in the male mating race.

It is long overdue for anything to happen with Luciana and David and if DisGracie is going to Spain for even just a few days there is no better time for that to happen.

Delilah: Gutierrez will NEVER get Marta back. He's moved on & is back with Lillian.

My guess is Miguel is not a virgin, but in an early episode Perla was annoyed with him for not being receptive to her "charms." She said something like he acted as if none of the girls around interested him (cause they didn't).

Luciana's family was split up. But Miguel's family was nonexistent. He made one with fantasy Luciana and with Marta, Leon, Tano, and Roman.

Thank You Delilah. Smugue did everything but go down to DMV and register his title to Luci, and slap that little sticker on her ass. And he tried that when her recent deportation came up with his oh so forking generous marriage proposal. That would have been akin to her being captured by El Coyote and sold into slavery.

As far as Luci being naive and innocent, they never told us which convent she was in, (giggle) but she sure didn't come out of a Southeastern Conference or Big 10 school all innocent and knowing nothing about boys. We always made sure by the time we all graduated they knew what boys and girls are all about.

As far as Psycho Soosie goes, my observation is that if Mark tried that shit with Luci when he eventually went to sleep he would wake up and spend the next week trying to find where she left his balls. Problem solved.

Smugue all big and mean to his benefactor, nonetheless, like "Oh you looked at the same girl I have my eye on, I'll whip your ass, whoops..whats that, I'm fired? Boo Hoo, can I borrow your handkerchief Patron?"

One of the issues with writing novelas is when there is little or no backstory to certain key characters. Sometimes the writers put in clues to them here and there but there are times when those puzzle pieces are either all the same color or don't fit. In Miguel's case we met him as a 12-year-old boy but didn't meet either of his parents. I think he said something about his family living in "the Latin quarter" of Sonoma and he likely met Luciana and Miguel in school. Miguel was there legally at this point. That is the sum total of info we ever got.

Many of you didn't remember the only clue about Tano's mother, which was that she left Ramon when Tano was a very small child. This was mentioned in the first week and Ramon only mentioned his ex once since then. Tano doesn't even remember her. Since he's also an only child I can imagine him being less knowledgeable about girls than a guy who grew up with sisters. Leon is also somewhat clueless since Luciana was deported when he was about 7 or 8.

Good point Urban. It seems most of these characters in this show are just floating through the ether.

Tano has Ramon, a Father, and Leon has Marta, for what it is worth. We know hardly anything of David and NoJuan's parents except that they are dead already and of course the real or imagined issues with the "LAND".

That Lilith and Succubus are related is almost an aside.

And no 'Wise Priest'. Cesar is about as close as we get there.

I'd say parents in general are a crapshoot. If you happen to draw a good pair, there is nothing on earth I'd rather have.

If the luck of the draw is not in your favor, it can be a rough 17 or 18 years, with a lot of undoing afterwards.

I know that none of us is able to watch all the novelas from any specific country or network, but three does seem to be a shift in the last few years from the obligatory priest to psychiatrists and other professionals like them. I think this is a healthy and realistic trend, although they do need to make more of these characters ethical.

The shrinks in PyP were ethical and their sessions were realistic in the sense that their manner was perfect and their questions realistic and in logical sequence. Their reactions were also perfect (except for one sexist thing on the part of Julia's shrink). It was the miracle about-face of Eladio that wasn't real.

The shrinks in ECDLP and MIVAC are deficient in ethics both for disclosure of confidential information and for getting involved with relatives of their patients. The female shrink in MIVAC should have lost her license because she was allowing the patient's brother to manipulate his treatment. Roman isn't doing that, but it is still wrong to get involved with a patient's relative. He is also the wrong shrink for Nora simply by being male.

What Roman makes me wonder about is whether the confidentiality thing should be suspended in Nora's case because although she is legally of age she is emotionally immature and lives with her family. She has also done things that were dangerous both to herself and to Lucia.

"there", not "three" Oy.

Well, some interesting comments since I last stopped by.

Wow, Miguel is not a popular guy here even though he hasn't killed anyone, hasn't deported anyone, hasn't abused a woman, hasn't cheated and defrauded anyone , and has come to the aid of many. I agree the guy is possessive and that he only recently opened his eyes to Luci not loving him . I thought the comment about him creating a family with his fellow workers was very perceptive. He has been in love with his vision of Luci for a long time. It is not unusual for someone who has no family or has a dysfunctional one to long for making a family of his or her own. I think that he has pinned his dream of a family on Luci for a long time, and I think that he is a virgin. Jmho as an always hopeful romantic.

SusanLynn what this show needs is a Chavo 2.0 from Hasta el Fin del Mundo. Smart sweet tough with minimum character flaws and rotten parents and competitors. And a race car too.

Kirby...or maybe Chris Hemsworth...I watched "The Huntsman" last night. Hmmm..I wonder if Chris can speak Spanish..well..doesn't matter. ........

In most of the telenovelas that I have seen since I surfed into Alborada and fell down the telenovela rabbit hole, one or both of the leads is in a bad relationship when the two meet. They meet and recognize that this person is their destined onetruelove. Perhaps the problem in this novels is that Dave has already experienced his onetruelove with Lisa and Luci has never been in a relationship except via letters with her childhood friend.

UA: But Eladio got the girl in the end.

You're right Susanlynn Miguel hasn't committed any atrocities and is a very nice guy. I think the comments about him creating family within the employees is very true. The workers have all bonded and become family, living together in that employee home. I also agree with you that he a hopeful romantic and has built up ideas and plans in his head. The problem is that to me he is writing the romantic novel and there's been no room for the heroine's thoughts or feelings. He just never gave Lucia room to breathe, or catch her breath since she arrived back.

Yeah, I'm sorry I just don't like him and don't get me started on his gross smacking slurpy kissing. He'd be perfect with Whinenelia in ECDLP.

Kirby, I don't think Gutierrez is back with Frizzlian, I think he's going to manipulate and use her.

I agree, Delilah. I think that's what he will do.

I was watching his facial expressions all through their most recent scene and this does not look like he wants to really get jiggy with her. He might have to in order to complete his objective, but he will be going through the motions. Betting that if we have to suffer the sight of him in bed with her she will ask what's wrong.

Steve, but he should not have. We did speculate that Eladio was retconned because FC's fans didn't like seeing him playing evil.

Please...no...I do not need or want to see Gut and Lilian doing the wild thing ..anymore. No...just...no.

I really think that Irina (Luci) is much more suited to playing the bad girl. She was terrific in PyP playing the spoiled, bad girl. I just do not like her portrayal of Luci and the writers do not help her to make viewers relate to this character.

We've only ever seen this actress twice before: As Daniela in PyP and as an early version of her in MIVAC (short list of episodes) where she tried to steal Gael from Gianna, which must actually have been her audition for PyP. I'd rather not see this actress typecast before we really know whether she is capable of playing both sides of the novela divide.

As a one-time drama major I have to say that playing the bad girl is definitely more fun. Despite the retconning of Eladio PyP had far better writing than this series does in terms of dialogue and situations. Bad writing (especially the constant repeats we're getting here) never helps anything. Irina may not yet be strong enough to overcome it like Susanna Gonzales or Marlena Favela can.

On that subject, strong mature actors like SG, MF, and the two male leads (FC and JS) are excellent role models as professionals for the younger generation of actors who play their children or the people their characters mentor. IB just isn't getting that to the same degree here.

Irina is a lot hotter as a bad girl too. There was something sinister, sinful, and seductive about her in those almost there mini mico-nano skirts in P&P. She could talk a guy onto a picnic table or the hood of his car, but here she never even really made it to San Fran.
The same box of chocolates but different wrapper here and ..oh well, cute....

I'm a guy and even I can see the lengths they are going with her makeup to tone down her looks.

So let's see now, Smugel sobbed himself into quitting a dyn-o-mite job and ostensibly will be spirited away to work FOR Erika.
By miraculous coincidence, the other train is also pulling out of the station carrying DisGracie to Spain.

Dave, it might be a good time to invite Luc out for some wings and tequila.

So..who's going to watch the game tonight ?

I think IB has shown her mettle in both roles and I hope to see more of her broadening her acting skills and not allowing herself to be pigeon holed into one type of role. Claudia Ramirez (Rebecca Murillo) is a great example of an actress who has primarily played the good girl in her career with ECDLP as I believe the role of Rebecca Murillo is only her second turn as a villain and this role in particular is her actual premier villainous role. She has been superb!

Super bowl...meh. Over rated and there hasn't been a decent half time performance since Prince (Rip Purple one) and U2's 9/11 tribute (which made me cry). The rest of my family will watch, while I'm going to drink and literally touch up the grout in my master bath.

Well I take that back...Tom Brady sure showed me. What. A. Game. Wow!

Delilah: I wasn't much of a Patriots fan, but I became one today and totally fell in love with Tom Brady. ;)

Cynthia, I know many people who despise him; especially after that deflategate scandal. I have never felt one way or the other about him, until tonight. Like you, I have a newfound respect for the man and there is no way anyone can say he is not a truly talented quarter back. The way he played in those last three minutes was nothing short of amazing.

Living in MA and south of Boston, I have always been a Patriots fan.

I think Tom Brady is a good man. He certainly showed his mettle last night. I am happy for him and happy for all his team mates.

What a message of never losing hope. Never giving up!

Diana

Whoa, Miguel took a thrashing. Yes, he's been all wrong in his possessiveness of Luciana, but she (and Marta) helped. I'm most looking forward to the coupling of Miguel and Erika. I think he's a pretty good kisser. It's just that he was in denial that his partner didn't match his feelings. So far the steamiest scene for me, other than David and Luciana's first kiss, has been Erika's cheek kiss, so I have high hopes for them.

I'm also hoping for a time-jump so we can skip more breakup whining and recriminations.

OT: There's no denying Brady and the Patriots made a stunning comeback. Yes, never lose hope. And this is coming from a Ravens fan still bummed about deflategate.

I'm definitely not a Pats fan, but: respect.

It sounds like we're all pretty much on the same page about Miguel after Friday's episode: a basically good guy who borderline obsessed over his first love for over a decade in absentia and never really got past that until now. (Sort of.) To that end I'm still somewhat sympathetic, but that possessive streak of his--combined with Luciana's randomly manifesting indecisiveness, and that being influenced by St. Marta of Sonoma's voice in her ear going "But, mija, you can't date the boss!"--has utterly acted as an annoying counterbalance...along with the show drawing this entire Triangle of Doom out as long as it has without anything really happening.

OTOH, its whole Passions-esque circle of endless nothing is still somewhat hilariously stagnant in the face of the other three developing relationships on the show (Tano's Triangle of Doom, which may still be a triangle for the moment thanks to Susan--woman, you said you were choosing "me"; the Marta/Gutierrez/Lilian trainwreck; and Sonia and Leon, Showstealers Inc).

Bill Sea: If Luci is admonished by Mom about dating the Boss, well then she will blow a head gasket when Smugel goes to work for his new Boss Erotika....um Erika.

Off Topic ..Waaaay off. I was pretty impressed with the Super Game. What really surprised me was Lady Gaga. I have never been a fan, and much less lately, but she actually put on a non-objectionable show. What I was really impressed with were the hundreds of synchronized drones in the night air. WOW. That takes a L O A D of programming and hundreds of good GPS satellite locks.

"David sat in the dark which became darker when DisGracie entered and turned the light on. " Ahh. Nicely said. And "DisGracie stared at David, who didn't want to look at her face for fear of getting snowblind." That should go in your Greatest Hits collection.

It's hard to believe that Fernanda is supposed to be a senior in high school. I know the actress is older than that, but she's playing Fernanda like she's 14 or 15.

As for Miguel, I've always been annoyed by his entitled attitude with Luci, so I'm glad he's finally seeing reality. But he's a good guy and I like him. If GS were not a bigger star, I'd still think Miguel was the real galan of this story.

As for the Super Bowl, I had a migraine and I desperately wanted to turn off the TV. Now I'm glad I didn't. Whew.

Forgot to say thanks, Urban. Thank you!

Me Too Urban. Sometimes it seems to me that participating and commenting on your recap implies a Thank You, but I know better. So thank you for all the free entertainment and education you give us all.

Well, I must admit that I was cheering for the Falcons, but I just heard on TV that Brady's mother has cancer and he dedicated the win to her. Also,I saw him almost cry on TV the other day when someone asked him who his hero was and he said "my dad." I guess he is that guy in school who gets ALL the MVP awards at every assembly. He has five Super Bowl rings..one for each of his kids plus a couple Spares.

Niecie...I guess that you and I are the only ones who wouldn't mind playing Spin the Bottle with Miguel. I think that when he and Erica get together...touch down.

SusanLynn as much as I wanted Atlanta to win, simply in the interest of spreading it around a little, I truly can not see anything wrong with Mr. Brady. Being a multimillionaire and married to a super duper model usually pretty much guarantees he is a ***hole, but try as I might I can not find anything to fault him on. Even with the deflated balls fiasco he remained a gentleman. And if you have ever thrown and caught footballs you know that how they are inflated has almost zilch to do with the grand scheme of things.

And another thing. TB somehow, in direct contradiction of the laws of physics manages to play a decent game without 42 stupid garish trailer trash tattoos. Un...believable.

Kirby...The guy is certainly athletically gifted, and he seems to have great parents whom he appreciates. The super model wife is the icing on the Brady cupcake. Football is a rough sport, and he has survived a lot of games. He does seem like Mr. Perfect. BMOC

Julie: Now we can anticipate Erika & Miguel becoming endgame.

UA: Speaking of "Pasion y Poder": At least we got to see Purple Lips FINALLY embrace Miguel & becoming the mother she should've have been to him (even though she's the stepmom).

Now is Miguel going to keep his MOUTH shut and let Erika think she stole him from David AND Luci? Nah..he just aint that smart. But that is what he should do, at least in regards to luci anyway. Then Erika, like most women, will consider him a hard fought for prize, and maybe put up with his smothering goofyness. Unless that is a personality aberration reserved only for Luci.
