Vino el Amor #98, Tuesday, March 21, 2017: Vino el Awkward Dinner Conversations

In this episode, there are some really awkward dinner conversations, a (sort of but not really) big revelation, some solutions proposed, and some fights picked. Pour yourself a glass and enjoy another day of vineyard dysfunction!
  • Repeat scenes: Sonia tells Fer that Tano has to work. Fer is not happy about this. Susan told Miguel & Erika that Mark owns a fruit truck business. Hmm, suspicious. Miguel will tell Gut about it. Gracie tells David he needs to fall in love again and offers her financial help with Watergate. Luciana speaks to Miguel to ask Erika for the use of the competent vineyard's pipes.
  • Miguel points out that this is kind of big thing to ask for. Luciana acknowledges it's a lot of work and effort, but it's their only option to overcome Watergate (thank you Bill C for that nickname for our current water crisis!). If vineyard de compentency doesn't help, the grapes will become raisins.
  • Over at the vineyard de dysfunction, David doesn't want to accept's Gracie's financial help. Gracie says she doesn't know any other way she could help him. He is grateful she's offering help but declines it. He's using the money he was going to use to pay her off and dissolve their business association, but tells her he'll find a way to pay her eventually. Gracie is not worried about this, obviously and suggests he sue Juan instead. David was tempted but he knows that's not the way to go. As David puts it, if it's not one problem, it's another. Gracie tries to encourage David to relax and join the family for a meal she's preparing. Even though the vineyard is in crisis, he needs to eat and spend family time, especially with his daughter. He sees her point and agrees. She asks if there's anything else she can do. He says no, he's waiting on Luciana.
  • Miguel points out to Luciana that he's still relatively new at the working vineyard, and not in the position to make the decision. Luciana says yes, but he knows the lands and that's why he needs to ask Erika.
Luciana's eyes are saying, "I just told ya to ask Erika, ya dummy!"
  • Luciana implores Miguel to go ask Erika, pointing out that many years of hard (?) work at the vineyard de dysfunction are about to dry up, all so Juan could get his stupid revenge. Miguel tells her about Juan trying to sell David's secrets to the vineyard de competency, but of course a competent vineyard wouldn't want to buy them. Luciana once again makes all her points and offers to find an engineer who will help her with an idea to route the pipes in a way that causes the least disruption. Miguel agrees to speak to Erika.
  • Sonia brings Lilian some tea at a later than appointed time. She apologizes for being late but Gracie is cooking and needed help reheating food. Will Lilian be joining them? yes, eating lightly though, as she's got a hot date with Gut. She tells Sonia that she's pleased at how things are going and she doesn't need to worry about David kicking her out anymore.
  • Miguel asks Luciana how things are otherwise. Luciana acknowledges they aren't great and asks Miguel if he heard about her mother. Miguel says he has, and while he knows Luciana is probably annoyed with Marta, she's still her mother. Luciana sits down in ERIKA's office in the OTHER VINEYARD and starts bawling about life and how she misses Miguel and having him to talk to. Miguel comforts her.
  • Fer ponders the journal that Luciana gave her and Sonia retrieved from the trash. She decides to write her troubles in it. Her first entry is all about Tano and how Gracie is the only one helping them and Tano blew his chance to hang with her. Her friends Katy and Caroline, who apparently are not grounded for their part in Margaritas and Pills night, skype her at that moment. So she tells them about Tano being too busy with Watergate for her. They encourage her to write Tano with her feelings and after signing off, Fer texts Tano that she felt hurt that he was too busy for her and she wants to speak with him.
  • Luciana gets up and apologizes to Miguel for dumping on him, but she has always found him to be someone she could confide in. He tells her no apologies are needed and he would've visited but Leon told him it wasn't the time. He can see there's something else she wants to say but it might be better not to hear it, so he redirects her to looking at a map to plot water routes.
  • Erika and Adolfo are dining in Sonoma. She tells him that Luciana had stopped by to speak to Miguel but she doesn't know why and she's annoyed. Adolfo reminds her that Luciana and Miguel are lifelong friends and tells her she's just being jealous and that's not a good move. She recognizes this and is a little frustrated with herself. Adolfo says she really is in love with Miguel, more than she thinks.
  • Gut just lets himself into employee quarters to greet Marta. She doesn't even look up from whatever meal she's making and asks him why he still comes here. He wants to help her. She tells him she doesn't believe in him and thinks he just came to make fun of her. He says he's really worried about her and needs to tell her something important. She doesn't want to hear it. He says it will help save her relationship with her kids.
  • It's mealtime with Gracie!
  • Fernanda kicks off family dinner by wanting to go to her room and whining about having to study all day and not being able to hang with her friends. Lilian tells her that they are just trying to act in her best interests. Gracie decides to change this awkward topic and asks Bobby about school. Well it's good and he hangs with Charlie and Summer and talks about video games. Gracie spins this as positively as she can and tells Bobby to bring Summer over, and David agrees. Bobby decides to change this awkward topic and asks if he can go play with Luciana. LOL I see the theme for this dinner is #letsmakeitawkward. David tells him she has a lot of work due to Watergate. See, Fer, it's not just Tano! Bobby says Luciana is always a great helper. David literally gets up right then and there in the middle of the family dinner that was planned to give Fer family togetherness to CALL LUCIANA. LOL!
  • He asks her where she is and she replies that she's at the competent vineyard with Miguel. He repeats, "with Miguel?" and Gracie's face lights up.
  • Gut continues offering to help Marta and Marta continues telling him to scram. He promises that if she hears him out this time, he won't bother her again. She is hesitant but agrees. Instead of telling her the "important" information right then and there, he makes a date with her for 8 PM at his favorite restaurant. Hmmm. He already has a hot date with Lilian planned.
  • Fer is completely annoyed with David and Luciana and starts in while they are still on the phone. Bobby doesn't get why Fer doesn't want to play so she loudly explains why. David is annoyed that Luciana didn't tell him where she was going, but he interrupts the phone conversation he interrupted family dinner with to tell the family to stop yelling in the background. Luciana tells him not to worry, all is OK. David hangs up and departs the family dinner abruptly to return to work. Fer is peeved. She and Bobby leave the table. Lilian and Gracie exchange a look and raise their wine glasses to each other.
Right there with you, Lilian
  • Juan is looking at papers and gets a knock on the door.
Which gave me a chance to screencap this picture of Juan's that creeps me out every time.
  • It's detective Torres, here to interview him about grungy Mark - has he been in contact with him? Juan says he hasn't heard anything from him, why are they asking? He has been identified as in contact with him, replies the detective who is reviewing Juan's papers. Juan says he's no longer Mark's attorney and yanks his papers back, and asks Torres to stop wasting his time. The detective gives Juan a card and says for him to contact him if he speaks to Mark because the police want to speak to him.
  • Cesar is visiting Soosan at work. She's still reeling a little from her creepy encounter with grungy Mark yesterday. Cesar offers to let her stay at his place which he is remodeling, and which she can remodel anyway she likes. She tells him he's marvelous and she's fortunate he came into her life. He'll feel better knowing she's safe with him. She thanks him with a kiss. He tells her he looks forward to seeing her in his house.
  • Night falls and Tano knocks on the mansion's door. David lets him in and asks him what he wants? Tano says he's here to ask permission to see Fernanda. David is reluctant and Tano begs him, saying he has strong feelings for his daughter.
  • In town, Marta sips her water at everyone's favorite restaurant, waiting on Gut. Uh-oh, Lilian arrives and asks what she's doing there. Marta replies that she's waiting on Gut. Lilian is kind of stunned. Lilian starts in on Marta and Marta gets up to leave, but then Gut arrives.
  • Marta's response is "That's loco!" Gut asks them to stay and let him explain. Marta says she knew she couldn't trust him. Lilian says she can't believe he's doing this to her. Both try to leave and he blocks them. He says if you leave, you'll never find out what Fernando told me about you both. He was my friend and it's time for you both to know the truth. OOOOH?We could use a good OOH moment on this show.
  • Grumpy David tells Tano he's got some nerve to just knock on the door  and ask to visit Fer. He knows it, and he's very nervous, but he just wants to spend some time with her. Fer emerges from her bedroom to overhear this conversation and she's pleased. I guess it passed the muster with Grumpy too because he allows Tano to come in and calls Fer down.
  • David is an awkward third wheel after Fer bolts down the staircase to greet Tano, and leaves them alone.
  • Gut asks his dinner dates to sit down, but Lilian won't sit at the same table as Marta. Marta channels the audience and tells Gut to say what he has to say and let's get this over with. Seems Fernando had told Gut all about his lover,Marta. Lilian mutters, "Oh Gawd, this is perfect" but I can't tell if she's being snarky or annoyed. Gut continues that the truth is that Fernando was playing both ladies. He didn't love Marta and he only married Lilian to become a U.S. citizen. Marta says that Fernando had told her he was going to leave Lilian as life with her was a living hell. Lilian seethes and says that Fernando told her that Marta was just a fling. Gut interrupts and tells the ladies that they were fighting over a man who used them. All three of them soap stare. Uni cut a little of the soap staring, LOL.
  • Lilian is in denial and states that Fernando loved her and Marta just seduced him. Gut says he's telling her the truth. Lilian questions why Gut is only telling them this now when he knew it all along. Gut says he didn't want to betray Fernando's trust but things have gone too far. Lilian calls him an idiot and leaves. Gut tells Marta she deserved to know the truth and to feel less guilty. Marta doesn't know what to say. Gut says he knows he made a terrible mistake, but he cares about Marta and hopes one day she can forgive him. Marta leaves.
  • Fer is thrilled Tano braved grumpy David to ask permission to visit her. He tells her he felt bad about not having enough time for her, but he had to help with Watergate. She tells him it caused her a little anguish. Tano tells her he prefers that she tell him when things bother her. Tano still can't believe Dave let him in. He was afraid he would get kicked off the vineyard for even asking  Fer says her dad is good and wouldn't do that, but things are complicated. Tano is glad the relatives are letting him in, but it's better coming from her dad. They kind of googly-eye each other while they chat about Watergate, Tano's guaponess, Fer's need to study, and who's got a secret thing to share. It's sweet. Tano is clearly the Fer Whisperer for today.
  • Miguel and Luciana are looking at a site map and figure out a good route that will have a minimal effect on the competent vineyard. Luciana is grateful and gives him a hug. Of course Erika enters her office then and snarks that she's sorry to interrupt them. Pipes between the vineyards haven't been laid yet, you know! Miguel tells Luciana to go ahead and ask Erika. Didn't we settle this earlier that Miguel was going to ask Erika? Whatever. Luciana asks if Erika's vineyard could route some pipes their way, in a way that would benefit both vineyards.
  • Sonia is reading her novel in the kitchen when Leon comes in. She is happy to see him because she knows he was annoyed with her for appearing to side with Lilia. She assures him that she's with him. Leon apologizes for overreacting and asks forgiveness. They hug it out and Sonia says she really missed him, as he did her. Sonia tells him about the book she's reading now and Leon's face lights up and he literally bounces as they discuss the plot and some oath of love a couple in the book took. They whip each other into a bouncing frenzy discussing the book and how they should make the same oath as the couple in the book and all that bouncing causes their passion to explode into passionate kissing.
  • Luciana continues making her appeal to Erika and tells her to do it for Miguel, who loves those grounds. Erika asks if she's asking this for David. Well yes, but also for his family and for herself, as her father worked that earth for many years, and what happened was an injustice.  Erika, correctly, says she needs to speak with her father. Luciana thanks her and is sure they'll do the right thing. For love. She leaves, and Miguel tells Erika he didn't want her to feel obliged, but it really was unjust of Juan to cause Watergate.
  • David spies on Tano/Fer from his home office, LOL. Oops, Fer was coming at him, and he quickly scoots from the curtain. She knocks and comes in. Tano left early so he could be up and at 'em tomorrow to solve Watergate. David likes that. So Fer takes a shot and asks permission to date Tano. David is happy to see her happy. But the doctor said not to date and she needs to concentrate on her studies and therapy. Fer says she doesn't feel sad anymore and protests a little but David stands firm, telling her that if she meets her responsibilities, she'll get more privileges. Surprisingly, Fer does not throw a tantrum and gives her dad a hug and tells him she will study hard. Hmmm. Is Dr. Evil Martin Mull's therapy actually working? Should Tano study psychiatry when he goes back to college because he has a knack for it?
  • Erika reviews the site plan. She will ask her father, but it's his decision. But she is on board for the new water routes. Miguel is pleased. Erika tells him Luciana was right, she will do it for love. Of him. Also, since the route plan will benefit her vineyard. And it will be more fun to beat the vineyard de dysfunction if they are on an equal footing. Erika is all about win-win.
  • David and Cesar have visited a wine shop for the wine and girl talk hour, but instead Cesar is drinking a bottle of whiskey. OK. He does date messy Susan. David thanks Cesar for inviting him out, he could use a drink with everything going on. He's annoyed Luciana won't tell him what her exact plan to solve Watergate is. Cesar finds that weird too. David continues that she's with Miguel working on it. Cesar tells David not to worry about that. David says he really is missing Luciana.
  • Marta returns home from that "fun" date with Gut to find Ramon in the kitchen. She tells him about how Gut invited both her and Lilian for the same time to tell them how Fernando was using them both. Ramon says he can't believe it. Neither can Marta, and she's upset. She totally believed everything Fernando said to her and still can't believe it wasn't true. Marta sadly laments the years lost to fighting with Lilian over the bum. She doesn't know what she is going to say to her family. Her head and her heart are torn. Ramon tells her to get some rest.
  • Cesar says that David is in love with Luciana, and asks why they broke up. David wishes they could be together, notes that it isn't easy for them, and he needs things to go well with his family and for Fer to recuperate. Cesar thinks that's a little nuts. David says Luciana can't wait around for Fer to feel better. "Ai yi yi" is Cesar's response and he notes how complicated things are in David's life. David agrees. Fer does not accept Luciana and he feels its important to have her totally recover first. Cesar agrees, but says its complicated, and asks how much time he's going to give the situation?
  • Lilian is sitting, devastated, on her bedroom floor, where Sonia comes in and finds her. She's drunk and drinking straight out of a bottle of David's Two Buck Chuck.
  • Lilian cries to Sonia that she always blamed Marta for everything, but in reality Fernando broke both their hearts. Lilian says she's an idiot. She cries that she loved Fernando more than anything and he felt nothing for her and just wanted citizenship. He always told her Marta was just a fling. She drunkenly mumbles about how humiliating it was to hear all this from Gut in front of Marta, as Sonia tells her she feels bad for her. Lilian says, "Maldito Gutierrez." She mutters something about Marta and she being the same as the music they normally play for Luciana being a heroine swells.
  • Meanwhile, Marta, lying in her bed, is crying to the same swelling music. She raises herself up and asks Fernando in the great beyond why he played with her because she did love him.
  • The next day finds us in Susan's office, where Susan is saying that Luciana's idea about the water route pairing with the competent vineyard is a great idea. Beyond re-watering the grapes, it will serve as irrigation for both vineyards. Luciana and Susan hope Erika's father will accept her proposal. Luciana also worries that David is upset she went to Miguel with this. Susan says that's just jealousy and she should just explain what she was doing. Luciana wants to tell David but she wants to be sure the competent vineyard is on board first. Luciana changes the subject to Susan and Cesar. Susan grins a big toothy grin when asked but then worrywarts about Mark finding out she's moving in with Cesar. Luciana tells her she was brave to stand up to the grungy one the other day. Susan says that Miguel has the name of the fruit truck company now and is going to speak to Gut about it.
  • Sonia vaguely says she doesn't know how Marta stands Lilian, given some of the things she sees and hears. She wants to stand up for Marta at times, but she knows that it would just make things worse for her. Leon says he heard his mom crying all night. Sonia tells him to forgive her. Leon says he's trying. Sonia encourages him to do it, comparing the situation to a plot in their book, and Leon gets it. As Sonia leaves, Marta comes downstairs, and Leon offers his help. She tells him about what Gut said last night and he hugs her.
  • Ramon and Luciana update David (working in the vineyard office today) on how grapes need water. Luciana says she has found a solution but is awaiting word. David snarks that he hopes she'll tell him what it is.  Luciana explains she's waiting for approval from the person she's working with and doesn't want to get David's hopes up. David hopes she hears soon, because the grapes have only got a week before it's raisin city.
  • Marta continues to confide in Leon. She feels like a fool for believing Fernando and fighting with Lilian for all these years, and thinks she deserves to be suffering. So much for relieving the guilt! Leon tells her that's not the case and he's with her and loves her. She's moved and he apologizes to her. They tearfully hug.
  • Back in David's office, he tells them solving Watergate means everything to his family and children and cannot fail. After Ramon leaves, David asks Luciana what this proposed solution is. She again says she doesn't want to tell him until it's good to go. David gets grumpy with this and decides to pick a fight and ask Luciana what she was doing with Miguel. He's annoyed that she sees how complicated the problem is and that her first instinct was to go to Miguel. Luciana hollers that she can't believe he's complaining about her when he knows she's suffering without him and getting the worst of things for the sake of his family. Then she stomps out. Grumpy David smacks his desk and smolders.

Gracias, dy77. Good job.

As awkward as it was, it was a smart move of Brian's to tell them together. That way neither of them can delude herself or lie to the other to start another fight. However, it does call into question what kind of person Brian himself has been over the years and what he may become going forward.

And he definitely was sick of the nastiness between the two women. However, that isn't the only thing they fight about so I don't think that will end.

Adolfo is a good man and will probably green light the irrigation plan if only to stick it to Juan. He and David could be a good united front against that creep. Not to mention the possibility that Erika and Miguel could have a daughter who can marry Bobby in another 24 years....

Juan will end up eventually being questioned about perjury with regard to what he has been saying about Mark (whom I'm glad was not in this episode).

Thank You Dee Wye for a print story far more entertaining than the video. And this show is getting better.

It dawned on me last night that I learned something. Now I am not a 'cryer' and it has been a while since I had a really good old fashioned bawl. And I never really felt like that was one of my strengths. I would always get in the car or truck, drive off somewhere and Boo Hoo alone driving around where no one could interrupt me.

I know now to sit on the FRICKIN' Floor. Works for Luc, Soo and even the Witch. Just plop yore ass down on the floor and cut on the waterworks. Shit stick her ass out in the vineyard and while you run maintenance on one of the tankers.

He never Luuuurrrved me and I Luuuurrrved him soooo muuuuch. WAH !.
What makes you think that you bawling old bag? That he was banging the housekeeper, or that his surviving BFF is banging you. WAH Boo Hoo. Wah..

OTOH, those appeared to be real tears. Id bet DisGrace wouldn't cry if she was hit in the eye with a rock.

FerBrat is bipolar. Well maybe not bipolar, but there are two of her. With Hairball, / without Hairball.
I am continuing to be surprised at what a prince (dumb prince) David is. That is his downfall, that he trusts people in a world where he should not, and he is willing to see both sides. His handling of Tano last night was superb. FerBrat, not so much. Spoiled little turd.

BUT Dave needs to wash his hands of Loopy Luci. Go find a grownup who is just as hot or hotter, seal the deal with some San Fran work, and for-get about the obnoxious kid who has his heart scrambled. He says he can't forget her but some nice claw marks on his back would be a surprising memory eraser. That's what I have heard, anyway.

Happy Hump Day all.

kj I feel so much better now and I didn't even cry.

Oh Urban we were writing at the same time, I wish I had waited a bit. Your 'daughter to marry Bobby' is the best. And Yeah Adolfo and David would be great as friends.

I for sure thought Brian was going to tell Marta that the deportation was all Lillian's idea. I have to suppose he is saving that for ...Something or sometime. I thought last night was the perfect time.

dy, your title and screen shots were fabulous.

The recap was intriguing and very well written. "vineyard dysfunction", "vineyard de compentency", " Margaritas and Pills night" and "David's Two Buck Chuck" were among my favorites.

"Adolfo says she really is in love with Miguel, more than she thinks". Smart man.

I liked that Erica acknowledged and admitted her jealousy. Whether she likes it or not, if she is going to be part of Miguel's life, Luci is also part of his.

"She tells him it caused her a little anguish". Grow up Fer! Please.

There is but one word I can use that eloquently, insightfully and succinctly summarizes my view on Brian’s revelation. Huh???

I am at a total loss. It is as if these remnants of Marta and Lili's past lives are being pieced together aimlessly, as none of this makes any sense. Was Brian's disclosure meant to ease these women's pain so they wouldn't be at each other's throats? Are they to bond due to the fact they've been duped and played for fools?? And Lastly, do we care even a smidgeon??

UA, I've said it before and I will say it again. I have no idea who Brian really is. Less today than yesterday. Too many gray areas for me and truthfully? Again, I just don't care.

I join you in being relieved we didn't see Mark last night. But the fact that Susan is moving into Cesar's makes me very nervous.

I love that Luci stood up to "Grumpy David". In this instance, she has bent over backwards for him. She is hurting - not only from the fallout from Fer, but from her mother's revelation. I think she is holding things together well. She needs David's support not his jealousy.

Ramon makes me smile. Am having a bit of a crush, admittedly.

Thank you dy!

Diana

great job all round dy. big thanks

"Katy and Caroline, who apparently are not grounded for their part in Margaritas and Pills night"

Good idea, good plan, good reason, good pitch and applaud Luciana for speaking direct with Erika. I hate withholding the plan from David causing expected TN misunderstanding but this is all Davids fault and understand why Luciana ran to her first love for help and solace. Luciana may love David but they do not relate.

Didn't see Brian and Fernando as total bros coming and if Fernando was a lying playa, not a good enough guy to be Luciana's bio dad, so that could be off the table. Not so sure this rehabilitates Brian, to the contrary, it proves Brian was Fernando's wingman and good student. Problem is Brian doesn't look like the wingman but the studmuffin.

I forgot the most important thing.

Anita, you made a comment about Erica yesterday and I want to add I think (wild guess) Erica is Fernando's daughter. I think he used Marta as a smoke screen.

I don't think we know much about Erica's mother other than that she is living abroad. Hmmm.

Pure speculation but the thought she could be Graciela's sister would be rich.

Diana

Kudos, dy.

While Azela Robinson almost singlehandedly saved the back half of the show (and Leon and Sonia the first half), everything was still rather eclipsed by Magic Brian's out-of-nowhere bombshell about Fernando. (I think UA and I at least entertained the possibility that he could be a dog, ironically, a few days back.) It kindasorta fits the vague-as-fork timeline, assuming Brian knew Lilian and Fernando even further back in the day (which means Brian is the closest thing Lil has to a lifelong friend, because we're going back a solid two decades at this point)...but I'm with Diana in that it weirdly doesn't help Brian's case that much. That's a hell of a secret to keep from your FWB, let alone the woman you claimed to love at one point and are still pining for.

As for all things Luciana and David (and company): consistent as it is, it would have been a refreshing change of pace for Luci to have simply gone "It's not what you think." Then again, there's obviously something in the water/wine/air at the Vinedo del Disfunción...

Thanks all so far!

That's where my five years of French vs. two years of Spanish fails me, Bill. It should've been del, not de! Ha ha a fix to save for next time!

I have to say I agree that I didn't miss Mark at all, although he does always give me a good screencap. But he's the worst, so I was glad he wasn't on.

A couple of weeks ago someone made the comment that Brian should be played by someone older, closer to Lillian's age and the whole friendship between him and the late Fernando points to that more than anything else. It's not hard to see why Lillian would fall for a studmuffin like he is.

BTW, he only just turned 40 last month (Aquarius), so he is a few months younger than Gabriel Soto.

As to what does and doesn't help Brian's case in our tale, we don't know what level of detail Fernando went into with him. Did he refer to Marta by name during those conversations? Marta is unlikely to have told him all the deets when they were dating (by current dating rules she doesn't have to). Let's assume that this happened 20 years ago shortly after the Munoz family arrived in California and that would make Brian and Fernando in their 20s when most guys don't blink at these situations. 20 years later can make a lot of difference. That he isn't yet married in present-day California is no big deal.

Were the Munoz family already living on David's lands at that time? We don't really know. Another issue with writers doing things on the fly and not planning the backstory.

Why is Lilian so upset? She already dealt with the father of her children having an affair. Perhaps its because Brian confirmed what Marta has told her for years, he didn't love her and married for a green card.

I get the blow to Marta's ego. She was ready to end her marriage and run off with her lover. Just because Marta fell for a playa doesn't negate the fact she cheated on her husband.

Ramon is a desperate fool.

Much as I dislike Fernanda's behavior rewarded with a Tano sundae it was clear all Graciela's plans will be for naught if David and Fernanda deal one on one with the issue of Tano access. I think Graciela underestimates Tano's influence and sees only a tool.

If anything, I imagine Fernando probably never (or maybe just once or twice, being a dog) mentioned Marta by name and Brian connected the dots once the affair became public knowledge. His statement made it sound like he'd already known for a while, but that could well have been a writing lapse. And it probably still doesn't help his keeping it a secret from Lilian for so long as opposed to Marta. I do agree that this really does highlight that Brian should be older, but since this is the same show where a 24-year-old is playing ten years over her age we probably can't be surprised at this point that they went for "pretty" over "appropriate."

As for the slo-mo trainwreck that is VEA's temporal mechanics regarding this mess: I'm going to need to make a list...

Bill C: Sonia sure does love those young-ins ROFLOL.

She needs a sex scene with Leon already.

Another issue I often have with these productions is when casting is done as auditions for future casting. That was OK when Irina Baeva was in a handful of episodes in MIVAC in a role that was a clear audition for PyP but having JV in a full supporting role to see if he can achieve galan status is stretching it in this exact example.

There was a fix for this that the writers could have done, which was to have Fernando been a friend of Brian's father and Lillian be outed as a cougar. That would have also been appropriate to the story and given another opportunity for conflict with DisGrace.

Tofie
Tano seems to be the one singular thing which works on FerBrat. And they are not sleeping together or really in a serious physical relationship, much more innocent than most 18 and ups are.

If all the negative influences (read, D&L) were removed, probably along with a good doctor to unravel all the damage D,L, and Dr. Evil have woven, FerBrat might have a chance of redemption. As Fer is now she is facing a lifetime of misery and disappointment if every time someone does not cater to her every whim, it is the end of the world.

She may discover that life in general is not as interested in her happiness as she assumes.

Steve a sex scene with Lion Cub?

Sonia is pretty passionate, Leon better spray all that chest hair with some flame retardant,

Kirby, I ditto your 11:42 post.

Have they told Brian to keep his mouth shut about Lillian's part in the deportation till Ultimas Semanas or some such? Although Fernando's fall from sainthood and the deportation are unrelated except they both involve Lillian, last night seemed the perfect time.

If he is saving it for a rainy day, Brian,. some side streets are already flooded..

Thanks, dy77! "LOL I see the theme for this dinner is #letsmakeitawkward." Yep! And your recounting of this heartburn-inducing affair was wonderful.

"Sort of but not really" is a good description of that big revelation. Is it safe to assume that Gut was telling the truth? And why did he say it would help save her relationship with her kids? AND why does he keep saying he cares about Marta, when he keeps on dating Lil anyway?

"David was tempted [to sue Juan] but he knows that's not the way to go." How does he know that? With his great legal mind? I think he should pursue any and all legal remedies. Get a lawyer!

"Gracie is cooking and needed help reheating food" hahahaha. Gracie should ask one of the children to teach her how to use the microwave oven.

Luci and Miguel were very interesting together. I don't think anyone was "trying" anything, and I thought there would be more tension between them.

I will accept Cesar's invitation to remodel his house if Soosan won't do it. Cesar, you'd like to live in a replica of the Brady Bunch home, right?

Did they explain how routing the pipes through the Olive Garden would benefit both parties? I see how it helps David, but not how it helps Adolfo.

Poor Ramon, listening to Marta again. It's his time if he wants to waste it, but it seems as though he could be with someone who makes him happy instead.

"Luciana wants to tell David but she wants to be sure the competent vineyard is on board first." This happens a lot in telenovelas - someone keeps something a secret for no good reason, causing unnecessary distress and woe. It's stupid and it annoys me.

I ditto Kirby 11:42 as well. The girl needs to learn how to deal with discomfort or she won't be able to function in the real world.

That is a definite writing fail. Last night would have been a good time to do it but that would have initiated a serious catfight which the writers are probably saving for Ultimas Semanas.

In fact, another writing team might have had this reveal happen way earlier and had Lillian become more evil as a result. Azela Robinson excels at this so I don't know why they're toning her down for this series.

Oh and I thought the big revelation was going to be about the deportation too. I think it's a big secret that needs to be revealed, but I don't see how it's so big and crucial that it has to wait until ultimos. Unless there's more to THAT story than we know...

I went back and read yesterday's post.

UA, it was you who posed the question why did Adolfo's wife go back to Spain. So, you're note alone, I'm wondering too.

Diana

Thanks, dy77. Great recap. Loved all the snark. David literally gets up right then and there in the middle of the family dinner that was planned to give Fer family togetherness to CALL LUCIANA.

Mark owns a fruit truck business? I love fruit and I shudder to think of Mark have anything to do with them.

The revelation sure did bring up the flaws in this storyline. Since Gut was Fernando’s BFF from way back when, why is it Gut never met Marta until this year? A player like Gut would’ve been dying to check out the latest chick Fer was doing so. How in heck is it gonna make Lu and León feel better about mom stepping out on pop with a womanizer, instead of a true love? Hooey hooey hooey on this poorly crafted storyline!

I'm wondering about Mrs. Adolfo too. Is she really in Spain? What if she comes back and she's someone who knows Lilian? Maybe she's Adolfo's first wife? The possibilities are endless and potentially silly.

Niece, there probably trying to work In forgiveness for gut and Marta to make a go of it. You kmow how tn/soaps are,They do what real life won't. Well Sometimes. Look how they brought back
Stephino demerra on D.O.O.L.,How many times has he died? And for real this time, the actor.

I think the spam monster ate my first
Comment, it just vanished. I said some good stuff too. At least I think so. I hate that.

If it can be found and put back on,I'd
Appreciate it. If not don't worry about. Its just a comment, I can make another one.

Good grief, Nina... I just read about Stefano DiMera on Wikipedia. They have a list of all the times he "died." It's quite impressive. I don't think anyone (except maybe Kenny McCormick) could beat that record, especially not in a TN where most people typically die only once at most. (knock on wood)

Thank you so much, Dy77, for another excellent retelling !

I was scratching my head over Gut revealing to Lilian and Marta that Fernando was a hounddog ,an equal opportunity user, and definitely not a gentleman because gentlemen never kiss and tell. Why, Brian? That revelation did not make anyone feel better. The SOB is dead. What purpose did it serve other than bursting two bubbles?

I have to admit that I got creative watching Fee write in her journal . "Dear Diary, I am having a sad. Why can't everyone everywhere do whatever I want all the time ? Life a so unfair. "

Nina..I used to watch that soap a long time ago? I recently saw it one day and was surprised that so many actors from the past are back in the show and that the actor who played Stephano has died.

Think positive, Dave. Take off your vest and put on your thinking cap.You can make the best of this dry situation. When life gives you raisins, make raisinettes. Yum.

Watergate .ha. Good one.

Nina: You mean Stefano DiMera on NBC's "DAYS OF OUR LIVES" AKA Daddy DiMera.

I'm pretty sure Hope shot him multiple times back last January.

Susanlynn: The late Joseph Mascolo was one of the best on "DAYS".

Thank you DY77. Great Recap.

Has Viewerville noticed the lack of shots of anyone, including the principal male and female characters, actually watering the vines? Most of the cast has talked about how they have to do something to save the grapes but all they seems to do is deal with the plan, or their love problems. Who is actually watering? The hired help? David and Tano rush off to the vineyard but they always seems to run into someone to talk about their love problems. Ditto Luciana, Susan and Leon. I guess they will switch to raising raisons.

Anonymous @2:48. Yeah, Luci is always coming up with a plan to save Blah Blah Blah, which appears to be drawing stick figure familys like people put in their back car windows.

UA: I rather like your idea that Fernando was younger than Lilian (which dovetails nicely with her previously admitted attraction to Latino guys...sooo in the show in my head Fernando back in the day was some Fernando Colunga-looking mofo who totally macked Lilian into submission), and it literally would have taken two lines of dialogue to include...

Brian: "Fernando lied to you, Lilian. He married you for citizenship."
Lilian: "You're crazy. Fernando loved me."
Marta: "Fernando told me he loved me...that he made a mistake marrying an older woman--"
[Lilian bitchfaces Marta]
Marta: "--and that he wanted to leave her for me."
Brian: "I'm so sorry, Martha. He lied to you."

Dammit, writing team...

I also noticed it took Luc and Mig what was presented as a whole 'shift' to draw a line from the river, across Adolfo's land and to David's land.

We would all be living on the moon by the time those two got the drinking water and sanitary sewers done for a small subdivision.

I'm still surprised Erika didn't leave her cell phone propped up in there within view of "The Couch" while those two former love birds were working.

Brian: " He lied to both you women. He married Lil to get his citizenship, and he was with you Marta, to make Lillian leave him then."

Lil: "Nooo he loved MEEEE."
Marta: Nooo he actually loved Meee."

Brian: "Nope girls, if you wanna see who he REALLY loved, here, look at this old Hooters calendar I saved. Ms April."

"That's who he was going to marry after he got untangled from both of you."

Waaah
Waahhh

You could tell that Luci and Miguel were working, working, working for realz because they were looking at that map AND holding pencils. #propssayitall

Bill C...That is brilliant. Fernando was younger that Lilian , and we get flashbacks of a young, virile guy from back in the day. #gocougars

Yes! I want to see this guy that these two women have been at each others' throats for all these years. He'd better be good!

...and for Anon 2:48, why not show young Fernando watering the vines?

Julie..perhaps we can each envision him using our own tastes in gentlemen. Who will you cast in this role? #ahyesnowiunderstand

Let's cast the guy who plays Tano, but with neatly combed hair. That will open up a whole new subplot!

Julie..I could go with that..except that Tano is such a sweetiepie that it will be hard for me to see him as a womanizer. #ickyguys

Dy77...I liked the part about Fern telling Tano about experiencing "a little anguish". Gee, I didn't know that one could quantify anguish. #highmaintenancedramaqueen

I noticed that Cubby has decided to open those top three buttons following the lead of his bro Miguel. #chesthair

By "a little anguish" I assume she just means "less anguish than last week." I feel that Fernanda has vividly illustrated the full scale of anguish for us.

What I meant above was that Fernando be the appropriate age for Lillian and that he would have been a friend of Brian's father. That would make Lillian a cougar now with getting her groove back.

Azela Robinson is 51 now, 11 years older than Juan Vidal.

Wine is better as the years go by too.

Urban, so Lilian is playing older than she is,and perhaps the guy playing Brian is playing older. I am always terrible at guessing people's ages. My motherinlaw's hair was completely white when I met her , and she was only in her forties. I thought she was Hubba's grandmother.

Oh, okay, UA. That probably could have worked too, but it might have pushed it over into full-on hearsay ("My father said that Fernando said...") and I'm not sure if that would have helped at all. TBH, though, I'm still rolling my eyes at the fact that Brian apparently waited as long as he did once the affair was public before busting out this tidbit...

..or Susan. #longdaysorry

I don't think revealing that secret helped anyone. Que the hell ? Did Brian think that Marta would feel better finding out that the guy she fell in love with and cheated on her husband with wasn't in love with her? #brianisajerk

Is Brian thinking (about Marta and him) "He wasn't but I am, Marta."

Oh, Lillian?, Shoot, hon, she was just giving me her homemade Taco sauce recipe.

I thought the revelation was redundant, hurtful, and very unhelpful. I don't understand what Brian was trying to accomplish. For a moment I wondered if Marta and Lil would be able to bond over it, but I don't think there's enough wine in the whole world to facilitate that.

Yeah Lion Cub is a hairy little thing isn't he.?

Sonia IS sexy in a "Shhhh, in the pantry." sneaky kind of way.

I wonder if Lion Cub has Googled her. He should.

The only thing that I have seen Lilian bonding with is a wine bottle. #vinodewino

"Shhh..in the pantry" Now that gave me a giggle. I get a kick out of that bonding..Cubby, Sonia, and a romance novel. #bodiceripping

It was funny Lillian sitting on the floor chugging it straight out of the bottle.

I hope these people are not swigging down a good buzz on David's $50 a bottle "Excelsior Reserve Most Prized" best.
If so this shit is costing Dave a fortune. I am sure (sure) he has Inventory Control up and running in Quick Books, so no problema, right?

And one other teeny little thing. I had always thought any road to moving into someone's house went through San Francisco.

Careful Cesar, pay attention. It is kinda like buying a car, Buddy.

Great job DY and I always love your screenshots because they are always so perfect. Been too busy at work today, but I’m taking a break. You know they expect me to work 8+ hours a day here. The NERVE of them! ;)

Anyway, I am getting tired of seeing Erika getting so dang jealous! Jealousy is NOT pretty and she doesn’t need to be soooooo insecure.

As for Lil and Marta, finding out the guy you loved used you is pretty hard to take. Both Lil and Marta need to come to terms that Fernando was nothing but a jerk to both of them. I wonder how old Fernando was when he died? I wish we had more background on him.

I am wondering too about Mark. Does anyone see his death in the near future? He’s the kind of a guy you love to hate, but not all that important to the story, kind of like “El Coyote”. I wonder if Juan will end up killing Mark or if Gutierrez will because of a chase or something. I’m already thinking up scenarios in my head only because this guy….he needs to go.

Perhaps Cesar and Susan took a trip to San Francisco off screen. #stillwaters

Whatever happens to Mark is okay with me, as long as it's unpleasant. I still favor prison and an aggressive washing.

...And the same advice to Susan regarding car shopping, verdad?

Oh yeah, Soosan and Seize-her - hey they got to "te amo" offscreen, who knows what else they've been up to.

Julie..yeah, with one of those power washers. Yikes. What is this show doing to my humanity?

Do we know if Seizeher was married before, or is he a bachelor? So many single ladies.. And men in this show. #putaringonit

And of course Juan should end up at Arkham Asylum in Gotham City.

I don't think we know Cesar's history, but if he has an ex-wife somewhere, she could always show up and make things interesting!

#rundeep
Of course a test drive is recommended for everyone. This aint Carvana..
ANYBODY wonders how it would look in their garage. (And if it is difficult to start)

Mark is a pretty disgusting fellow. And his downfall is he is dumb enough he actually doesn't know he is dumb. He has skated by on pure nastiness and other's fear of him because he is about half crazy in a dangerous kind of way.

He is that overconfident 'my way or the highway' kind who is just asking for a pink slip. I am sure someJuan is filling his out as we speak.

Cynthia: It was a nice Father Daughter moment last night when wise old Adolfo knew what was making Erika crazo as respect to Miggy and he was very comforting to her in a mature, parenting, understanding way. Adolfo seems like a really nice human being and I am always saddened to see him groveling to Lillian. There has to be someone better for him.

If only karma could locate all the Marks of the world...some escape their deserved anvils..que lastima. #whenbadpeoplehappentogoodoeople

Kirby..poor Adolfo and Ramon..two good guys who cannot seem to catch a break...or keep a wife. At least they both have good children.

Yeah, how does Juan even know Mark? They really don't seem like the type who would hang out together.

I see the blog has something going on. This post is from my AT&T tablet and seems OK,
.
