La Candidata 6/5/17 Chapter 4: Alonso and Cecelia Will Work Together

• Hugo visits Emiliano to apologize and explains that he only gave the video to “El Colorado,” who then uploaded it without his permission, but Emiliano still thinks that Hugo betrayed him by giving El Colorado the video in the first place. Emiliano blames Hugo all that has happened since he handed over the video and warns him that he can’t tell anyone about what happened outside of Deborah’s apartment or they will die. Hugo confesses that he’s scared but Emiliano suggests he get used to it because he’s also scared and he did nothing wrong. He also reminds Hugo that Florencia is dead because of him and throws him out of his house. Hugo obliges but cries as he does.
• Gerardo reminds Ignacio that a lot of the congressmen in the Senate are there because of him, so they can’t just ask him to resign, but Ignacio reminds him that alliances are based on trust and he has unfortunately lost the trust of a lot of the politicians in his party. Gerardo refuses as he has worked for his party since he was a teenager and made a name of himself, on top of the fact that his records is spotless and he has had no corruption scandal. Ignacio agrees that he is a good asset to the party but he needs to accept that he has lost their good will. Gerardo chooses to fight and Ignacio laments that things have gotten this bad but he already told him what he needs to say. He goes to leave but Gerardo warns Ignacio that the war has just started, and he should let everyone know, before slamming the door in his face.

• Reporters continue to grill Ms. Oscura with questions about Florencia’s murder as Daniela fights her way to the front of the line. She pulls Ms. Oscura inside the house and slams the door in the reporter’s faces. Ms. Oscura demanded to know who she was and Daniela explains that the reporters outside only want to abuse Florencia’s memory while Senator Regina Barcenas is the only one who fights for justice because no one else cares Florencia, especially not reporters who only want to sell papers. Ms. Oscura doesn’t want to hear any more but Daniela explains that Regina founded a shelter for disenfranchised and abused women; Daniela herself came from a poor neighborhood, full of crime, but Regina saved her and helped her be a better person. Ms. Oscura is quiet and Daniela suggests she let the reporters outside use her until Florencia’s murder is no longer newsworthy and her memory fades just as quickly as it came.
• Mario meets with Omar in an upscale restaurant. Mario is surprised that Omar even called him but Omar asks him to sit so they can discuss how far Mario is willing to do in his quest for power. He reminds Mario that politics is a game of chase, not poker, especially since he has left his queen unprotected. Mario asks if he means Regina but Omar confesses that he means him; Omar doesn’t like want he did but Mario explains that it was all to save his son, Alonso. Omar suggests he keep a low profile, for now, since he has his hands in too many cookie jars, but Mario reiterates that he saved Alonso. Omar still doesn’t like his methods nor his blatant abuse of power and asks that Mario not come by the Governor’s building for the time being. If he does need to visit Regina, at home, he should do so regarding private family matters, only. Mario is quiet and Omar leaves without another word.
• Alonso calls Regina to make an appointment with her, alone, so they can have dinner and talk about themselves and not their family or careers. He tells Regina that he needs his wife, because he wants to save his marriage, and Regina agrees. She would never deny her husband an appointment. Alonso smiles and tells her he loves her before hanging up. He then asks his doctor to tell how he can make love to his wife, no matter what it takes, but it has to be today.
• Daniela talks to the employees at the women’s shelter, and they tell her that everything is running smoothly, as Regina arrives. Daniela goes to her and tells her that Ms. Oscura is on her way in to the shelter as they had no idea when she would arrive at the Senate. Just then, a woman comes and tells her that the rooms have flooded and Regina orders her, and everyone, to help move the mattresses so they are not destroyed. Daniela then informs her that Gerardo’s party wants him out of the Senate and Regina is shocked.
• Omar finds Natalia at Regina’s house, as there is no place she could’ve gone to nor could Javier take her anywhere either. She demands to know what he did to Javier but Omar reminds her that it’s not her business. He is there, instead, to give her another opportunity to be his wife and suggests she say goodbye to everyone and come with him. Natalia wonders what would happen if she didn’t go back with him but Omar reminds her that Alonso’s political career would be involved in a scandal should they break up. He kisses her but Natalia immediately pulls away, disgusted. Omar thinks she’s lucky that he still loves her and hopes to see her at home, after he is done with his errands. Natalia accepts as she wouldn’t want to deter Alonso’s aspirations for the presidency but she vows to leave him forever after Alonso has accomplished his goals. Omar reminds her that they shall see about that before leaving.
• Regina calls Gerardo and laments the fact that his party is trying to oust him. Gerardo reveals that he also just left Teresa at a rehab center and must take care of Ximena himself for the time being; he doesn’t know if he has the energy to fight his party. Regina thinks he should as he’s always been a great opponent and suggests they unite forces. Gerardo is unsure but she asks to meet with him at his office, later, as she is in the middle of an emergency right now. She asks that he not give up and then hangs up.
• Cecelia, all dollied up in executive professional chic, meets Mario at the same restaurant. He thinks she looks great and she smiles before asking if she’s ready to take Regina’ power. Mario reminds her that she is there to share her power with Regina and laments the fact that he couldn’t meet Omar, the governor’s father. Cecelia asks if he is going to let her in on his plan but Mario suggests she be patient as Rome wasn’t build in a day. He then tells her they have to go and she obliges.
• Regina and Daniela help the employees at the shelter to move boxes and mattress around as other clear the water. Just then, Gerardo comes and asks her to unite forces. Regina is surprised to see him there but there is no time to argue and they continue to move boxes away from the flooded areas.
• Magda argues with Israel, a friend, as Mario comes and asks to see Alonso. Alonso’s secretary needs to announce him but Mario reminds that he doesn’t need to be announced as Magda comes and asks Mario if he would like a coffee. She takes him to the kitchen as the secretary rolls her eyes.
• Regina and Gerardo, amid a sea of furniture and water, discuss their plan to jointly present her initiatives to reform the current laws on gender equality and equal treatment of human beings before the Senate. Gerardo thanks her but reminds her that he has no sway within the Senate anymore and he wouldn’t want to bring down her political capital. Regina doesn’t care what her party says as her initiatives are for the benefit of society. Either way, she doubts his party will say no, as he would be leading the opposition, and that will help her get her initiatives approved. Gerardo is quiet and she smiles as Daniela comes with Ms. Oscura and introduces her to Regina. Ms. Oscura thinks the place is wonderful and Regina asks Daniela to give her a tour while she finishes cleaning out the place. Daniela obliges and leaves as Regina notices Gerardo staring at her. He admits that he loves the woman she is and Regina nervously looks away.
• Arturo goes to Natalia’s house and tells her that Javier has disappeared and so has the money they were going to take with them. He doesn’t care what Javier did but it’s not right that he left him with no job or money. Natalia is confused so Arturo threatens to help him or he will talk to the press. He begs Natalia to help him, ASAP.
• Regina calls Alonso and asks if he offered Ms. Oscura money in exchange for her silence. Alonso explains that Ms. Oscura was struggling financially, and need all the help they can get, but Regina reminds him that he didn’t tell her anything. Alonso reminds her that she doesn’t ask for his permission to help others but Regina thinks that whoever he sent did not do a good job of placating the situation. Alonso agrees and he's dealing with it. After a moment, he tells her that he is very busy and they hang up after another “I love you.” Regina turns around and finds Gerardo standing behind her. He asks if she’s okay and Regina nods before nervously hurrying away.
• Ochoa meets Omar in his car. Omar wants to know what Alonso asked him to do and Ochoa reveals that Alonso wants them to cease all investigations into Florencia’s death. Omar agrees and then tells Ochoa that he has a special job for him to do but it should be handled with extreme efficiency. Ochoa wonders if he should risk it, as Alonso is very unhappy with the Florencia situation, but Omar reminds him that he needs he should follows his orders if he wants to continue to work with the Governor. Ochoa nods and Omar asks him to give Mario, Regina’s father, a good scare.
• Mario meets with Alonso, who looks visibly uncomfortable, and Mario asks him why. Alonso confesses that doesn’t know how to behave with him, especially after their last conversation, but Mario asks him to treat him the same as he always has. He then reminds Alonso that he’s been insisting he get a new PR representative because his current one is a disaster, especially after allowing Ms. Oscura to talk to the press. Alonso is unsure as he already gave Pacheco an ultimatum, to fix the issue or he will be fired, but Mario takes the opportunity to introduce him to the person who should take care of his PR: Cecelia. At that moment, Cecelia walks in and Mario introduces them, officially.
• Regina tells Ms. Oscura that the money she received is not from the government but from her family’s personal accounts so she can take care of any pressing needs regarding Florencia’s funeral and subsequent burial. She admits that a government employee did jump the gun in offering the money but the initiatives she and Gerardo are going to proposes, soon, should help those in situations such as hers. Gerardo reiterates that he is there to help her and laments that the state leaves its citizens out in the cold, especially in her time of need. Ms. Oscura nods and tells Regina that she is a good person and appreciates the fact that she works side-by-side with her employees at the shelter. Regina shakes her head and tells her that she understands the pain of others as Ms. Oscura grabs her hands and thanks them all for their help. Daniela then escorts Ms. Oscura outside as Gerardo tells Regina that she is wonderful. Regina smiles and tells Gerardo that he is a unique politician and the best person she has met in the Senate. Gerardo explains that she is the best person he has met in his life and confesses that he has always loved her. Regina is quiet as Gerardo moves closer and closer to her lips.
• Arturo begs Natalia for help but she can’t do anything and neither can he. Arturo threatens to talk to the press but Natalia warns him that he shouldn’t threaten her. Arturo reminds her that they left him with nothing to lose but Natalia suggests he keep quiet lest he end up like Javier. Arturo demands to know what happened to Javier but Natalia orders her guards to drag Arturo out of the house as he kicks and screams and warns her that he will talk to the press.
• Alonso smiles at Cecelia, who tells him that she is at his disposal, if he chooses to hire her. They shake hands and Mario introduces her as Cecelia Aguilar before asking her to tell Alonso about her experience as a journalist. Cecelia nods as Mario explains that she studied in the US and is a guru at social media, an area where his government solely needs help. Alonso notes that Mario talks as an admirer and Mario tells him that he will be one, soon. Alonso asks if she is available to talk, so he can gauge if they will be a good fit, and Cecelia nods before sitting down. Mario takes his leave but Alonso wants to know where he found Cecelia first. Mario whispers that she is very discreet and he completely trusts her; the rest she will tell him. Alonso reminds him that Pacheco is still his PR representative so Mario suggests that he test her out for a few days and then decide. He then tells Alonso that he already took care of his “little friend” and she is currently on a plane with no return flight. Alonso nods and Mario tells him that he will order two coffees for him and Cecelia before leaving. Once alone, Alonso asks Cecelia about her studies abroad.
• Regina tells Gerardo that they must stop but he moves closer still. Daniela comes and they immediately separate though Daniela catches a glimpse of what was happening. She tells Regina that she sent Ms. Oscura home and her driver is ready to take them home as well. Regina nods and Daniela gives her the list of talking points for their meeting before reminding Gerardo that he probably has people waiting at his office to talk about the opposition. Gerardo agrees and leaves as he gets a call from the casino owner, who reminds him that he has to liquidate Teresa’s debt by today. Gerardo is aware but tells the casino owner that he will call him back as he is in a very important meeting. When he hangs up, Regina comes and asks if there is anything she can help him with. Gerardo shakes his head and then promises to call her later so they can discuss the initiative. She thanks him for his help, as does Gerardo, and he leaves. Regina then goes back to Daniela and asks for the talking points though Daniela only wants to hear about what is going on with Gerardo. Regina is quiet and Daniela warns her that they aren’t leaving until she’s told her everything.
• Magda calls Israel, who doesn’t answer, and she leaves another message. Mauro comes and asks her about whom Alonso is meeting with. Magda doesn’t know, but the woman came with Mario. Mauro decides to interrupt the meeting but Magda asks him to stay behind for 5 minutes as she needs a favor. Mauro closes the door and sits down, attentive.
• Mario runs into a man named De La Garza in the lobby of the Governor building. He chides the man for ignoring him but De La Garza explains that he didn’t notice him, though it has been a while since they had seen each other. Mario notes that the man did see him, though chose to ignore him, because he left Mario out of their business dealings. De La Garza reminds him that business is business but Mario reminds him that secretaries are like fuses, which must be changed regularly. He also gives De La Garza some advice: if he chooses to shoot a man like him, he should make sure he is dead as he should never leave a wounded man alive because they are dangerous. He then bids him goodbye and De La Garza scurries off. Mario then calls someone and asks them to send Regina’s people an anonymous tip since they are investigating the office of the Secretary of Health. He looks over at De La Garza, who is shaking hands with another man, and dictates his note: a friend of the secretary is fattening up his pockets in Panama.” He then leaves as De La Garza looks back at him.
• Cecelia tells Alonso that Regina was very smart about Ms. Oscura and managed the situation perfectly. However, it is against Alonso’s best interest that Regina be so close to the opposing party because it gives the impression of a united government, which debilitates his strength as a political figure. Alonso is quiet and Cecelia takes a drink of water. She apologizes for talking non-stop but Alonso admits that she is as good as Mario said she was. He then asks what she thinks she can bring to his team and Cecelia explains that there is a sector of the population is that completely indifferent to politics: the young people. She proposes that Alonso get closer to them by using social media and the Internet. Alonso laughs and Cecelia explains that a lot of politicians neglect this area but he should be up-to-date on the new techniques to reach more people. Alonso admits that he doesn’t know a lot about social media but Cecelia suggests he should as everything he has read in a newspaper has already been online beforehand, and she can bet on it. Alonso likes her vision and thinks it would be great to have a woman like her at his side. He approaches her but Mauro interprets him and asks to speak to him, ASAP. Alonso asks him to come back in the afternoon but Mauro explains that it is urgent and Cecelia decides to leave. She does give Alonso her card and asks that he call her as soon as he’s made a decide. She smiles, as does Alonso, and Mauro notices the look that passes between them.
• Gerardo calls the owner and tells him that he has no time today to pass by and leave the money but the owners can have someone pick it up. Gerardo confesses that he couldn’t get all the money together and the owner reminds him of the alternative. Gerardo shakes his head and asks for a couple of more hours. The owner hopes to hear from him soon and hangs up.
• Alonso tells Cecelia that she is part of his team, starting tomorrow, and Cecelia smiles before kissing him on the cheek. She apologizes, though Alonso doesn’t mind, and tells him that she will see him tomorrow before leaving. Mauro then asks him if the young woman is going to make copies, because he would greatly appreciate it, but Alonso explains that he will be part of the media team. Mauro is worried, especially because he has noticed how Alonso looks at her, but Alonso reminds him that he interrupted his meaning because of something important. Mauro nods and explains that he has a way to kill two birds with one stone by destroying Gerardo’s reputation and the opposition. Alonso is interested.
• Hugo video chats with Emiliano, who has not forgiven him though wants to know how he is handling Florencia’s death. Hugo asks him to stop and reiterates that he already apologized even though he didn’t release the video. Emiliano reminds him that he still took the video from his phone and Hugo nods but he can’t keep torturing himself forever. Emiliano thinks that’s great because he can’t forget that Florencia died because of him. He will also never let Hugo forget his part in this whole mess. Hugo asks him to stop but Emiliano reminds him that Florencia is dead because of him and there is nothing he can do to change that. Hugo slams the computer closed as Emiliano receives a call from Regina.
• In the Senate building, Regina leaves Emiliano a message and goes into her office. Daniela comes and tells her that she received some interesting information: The Secretary of Health is overcharging for doctor’s visits. Regina asks her where the information came from and Daniela explains that it was an anonymous tip on their General Welfare Hotline. Daniela assumes that it could be a disgruntled company that was left out of the business deal but Regina wants her external team to investigate the tip and report back to her their findings about the Department of Health. Daniela nods and goes to leave but comes back and asks if Regina should tell her more about her relationship with Gerardo. Regina asks if she wants to talk about hers and Gerardo’s work or if Daniela prefers to work. Daniela sighs and Regina asks about about the meeting she had with the opposing side regarding the initiative her and Gerardo are working on. Daniela explains that the press is already talking about it and Regina notes that she needs Gerardo as the leader of the opposition as he is the only one she maintains a good working relationship with. Daniela smiles and tells her that they have much more than that but Regina gives her a look and Daniela apologizes. Regina then reminds her that they must be at Florencia’s burial and Daniela nods before telling her that her mother has been calling nonstop to ask if Regina handled the favor she asked for. Regina nods, thinks that she will have to speak to her father about the situation, and then asks Daniela to follow up on the complaint against the Secretary of Health. Daniela nods and leaves as Regina texts Gerado and thanks him for his help at the shelter. She also reminds him that he was strange when they said goodbye and reiterates that she is there to help, no matter what.
• Outside the Governor building, Cecelia calls Mario and leaves a message so he knows that she starts working with Alonso tomorrow. She also promises not to let him down this time and asks that he call her back as soon as he hears her message.
• Daniela brings Regina a folder full of documents that prove the overpriced doctor visitations and tells her that De La Garza is on his way to see her. She then explains that the documents were delivered anonymously but Regina is shocked to see that everything has been thoroughly documented. She thinks Daniela was right to think someone was left out of the deal and Daniela nods. Regina then grabs her two cell phones and Daniela asks if she plans on reading over the documents before De La Garza arrives. Regina nods but Daniela thinks that she’s too impatient, like she’s waiting for a call. Regina asks that she leave her alone to read the documents but Daniela wonders if she will be able to concentrate. Regina reiterates that she will and shoos Daniela out of the office.
• Mauro tells Alonso that if they leak Teresa’s gambling debt, they will destroy Gerardo’s reputation, but Alonso reminds him that if Gerardo is ousted, he will have no one in the opposition with which to negotiate with. Mauro hadn’t thought of that and Alonso confesses that he has other plans for Gerardo though Mauro should collect all the information he can about Teresa’s gambling debt. He also wants Mauro to introduce Cecelia to the whole media team tomorrow but Mauro worries about Pacheco’s reaction should he think Alonso wants to replace him. Alonso confesses that he wants to but Cecelia will collaborate him for the time being until they take away all his power. Alonso reminds Mauro that Pacheco is useless but he is privy to sensitive information that may hurt him. He proposes that they chip away at Pacheco, slowly, and Mauro agrees. Mauro then gets up to leave but stops and tells Alonso that Magda asked for his help regarding a friend who doesn’t have a job nor anyone else to help him. Alonso asks Mauro to investigate the friend first and then ask Magda to come talk to him. Mauro nods and then Alonso reminds him, again, to get all the information he can on Teresa’s gambling debt.
• Mario is driving down the street when another car cuts him off and armed guards run out. They surround Mario, guns drawn, and pull him out of his car and into theirs. Mario protests and warns them that they have no idea who they are messing with but the men close the door and drive away as another guard gets into Mario’s car and follows them…

Alfredo: So far,Florencia is on the Body Count.

Thanks, for the excellent recap, Alfredo.

Unbelievable: Alonso is still not cured from his STD but needs to have sex with his wife anyway? I feel like yelling "Run, Regina, run. Don't go out to dinner with your two-three-? timing husband."

Daniela has turned into sort of a pain asking about/ harping on Regina's relationship with Gerardo.

Emiliano is sure Alonso's son and Mario's and Omar's grandson re: his blaming Hugo for Florencia's murder.

Youre welcome, Jarifa & Steve!

Is there a magical pill Alonso hoped to take because his STD problem seems a lot more serious than hes giving it credit for.

Ha! Mario and Omar...two titans going at it for power. Oh boy.

Cecelia does clean up very well and at least knows how to research her role. She seems quick and smart, a worthy adversary for Regina. Though she knows Reginas her sister and is still willing to seduce Alonso. Mario is scary though.

As for Gerardo and Regina...theyr cute but playing a dangerous game especially considering their career choice.

Danirla asked the same question 10 times in the span of 5 hrs -.- I thought shed be a good confident but at this point shes just obnoxious.

Alfredo, thank you so much for your explicitly written recap. I forgot to record last night and this surely fills in a plethora of blanks. I thought LDVDEC was bad...seems that LC is going to be another mind-boggler.

RgvChick

Great Recap Alfredo you got all the important conversations, which in this TN means all the conversations. Like you like to say a mile a minute.

In the span of one day thus far Regina helps at a women's shelter, smooths things out with Mrs. Oscura, initiates an investigation into the Secretary of Health, has time for a little romance, and her father is kidnapped. And the day is not over yet, phew!

BTW thank you for clarifying the Secretary of Health corruption issue. I did not understand it when I first saw it.

OMG Mauro is a sexist...."is she here to make copies?" WTH...

Is it just me or was Omar creepy trying to kiss Natalia? How dare he?

Ignacio is on my list of disliked characters, I can't stand how he talks to Gerardo. As if he is doing him a favor, when in reality he is just a tailcoat rider.

One last think I think Emi needs therapy, he is turning into a cyber bully, yes Hugo screwed up but man talk about adding fuel to the fire.

Excellent, very complete recap, Alfredo! The standards for recaps on this site just blow me away! Obviously, Emiliano doesn't understand the greater conspiracy behind Deborah's and Florencia's presence at a teen party in the first place, let alone the exploitation of the sex tape, Florencia's murder and the threats Hugo and Emi got from those thugs. And also obviously, Mario's kidnapping is the playing-out of Omar's promise to throw a scare into him. It's way too early in the tn for Mario to die. The earlier meeting between Omar and Mario: pot and kettle.

You're welcome, RgvChick and Sandie!

RGV, these people are politician and "fancy" gangsters so they are much worse because they will do anything to keep their shiny appearance in the public's eye.

Emiliano is not much worse than his friend. Kid made a mistake, and it cost Florencia her life, but wow, Emiliano just wants to drive home the guilt, huh?

Mauro is sexist but who also knows on which leg Alonso hops. Cecelia may be smart but she's just a piece of meat, especially regarding Alonso's track record. It's funny that Alonso also recognizes Gerardo's importance within the opposing party. Should be interesting if Gerardo and Regina consummate their affair.

Sandie, the Secretary of Health issue was so confusing the first time. The viewer in me appreciates the fact that the production team presents it in a way for us to understand without insulting our intelligence...the recapper in me though, which it were a lot clearer the first time around lol

Excellent Alfredo. Agree with SpanProf that the recaps for this are excellent. Appreciate the time and effort you all put into it. Looking forward to getting a chance to watch it in the early evening.

You're welcome, SpanProf and JudyB!

I hadn't noticed that this has all happened in the span of a day, or two at most. This reminds me of YNCELH were MD got harrased, fired, kidnapped, had her pregnancy outed and left town in the span of 30 hours.

Great work, Alfredo.

They never specified what Alonso caught, but if it's something that can't be cured with a single injection he is asking the impossible. If this series were longer I'd predict that Regina will be caught up in something and unable to meet with him tonight so this revelation will take another 10 episodes at least. However, we'll see.

My recap may be a little late tonight but I will do my best.

Thank you Alfredo, that was very good. This story just really moves along and if I blink my eyes, it feels like I'm going to miss something. Except for Regina, much of this cast of characters looks very respectable on the outside, but so corrupt on the inside. I like Regina, it appears she doesn't mind doing some real work and being a real help to people as she did her best to help clean up after the flooding in the women's shelter. I look forward to getting to know her much better.

Thank you, Alfredo--have to thank you for the same things over and over.....the dialog that I miss. My ear is just not tuned in to political stuff in Spanish (English, yes).

Cynthia, I agree 100%. I don't think Regina will fall down a rabbit hole, but there are too many people who want to try and just as many surrounding her that don't want anything scandalous to rear up around her. Mmmm, can't wait for the revelation of Cecelia's real relationship to Mario.

Where is Gerardo going to find the rest of the money? Please don't let it be anyone in Regina's family, or, maybe it will be Regina, which will get her in deep doo-doo when Alonso, Mario and Omar find out.

I was jut reviewing last night's episode. I don't know how important this is, but in Ignacio and Gerardo's conversation, he wasn't telling Ger he had to resign his senatorial position, but he had lost the confidence of the party (true) and it was being suggested he resign from the banking committee. This would make it easier for him and Regina to become allies on her legislation without his being completely on the outside of the legislature. He did say he was going to fight it. [Alfredo, I'm pretty sure I heard Ignacio say comite bancaria. Correct me if I'm wrong.]

You're welcome, Urban, Cynthia and Anita!

I love that Regina is incorruptible (thus far) which, strangely, rubbed a lot of people the wrong way in Mexico. But she has a fighter's spirit and smarts and that can get her just as far, with a little bit of trouble though.

Okay, after some research I was able to figure out this much (if any one more well read in politics can share, please do:

Mexican Congress is divided into two Chambers: the Chamber of Duties and the Senate of the Republic.

Regina and Gerardo are senators in the Senate of the Republic. I think, since they were the only ones who spoke, that she is the Parliamentary Group leader (or speaker) of her party while Gerardo is the leader of his. Each Senator is assigned to three different commissions which push forward legislation. I assume Regina and Gerardo belong to a commissions that pushes legislation for the general welfare of the republic (at least as far as they've shown).

Back in Episode 3, Gerardo asked Ignacio why he was doing the memorandum and it was because the party wanted him to resign from the "bancada" or "grupo parlamentario" or Parliamentary Group as his party had lost faith that he would be able to help them achieve their goals. To be out of the parliamentary group would mean that 1) Gerardo can no longer propose or push forward legislation and 2) he is no longer part of the Senate of the Republic as there can only be one parliamentary group for each political party, per Mexican law.

Gerardo argues that he has been with the party since his teenage years and helped many of his colleagues get elected (I assumed endorsed) and has possibly helped legislation over the years as he is the most responsible member of his party, which is in constant battle with Regina's. However, Ignacio argues, that he may have done a lot of good, but his current status does not help the party accept its goals and therefore they would prefer he resign.

***This is based off some google searches, a very basic understanding of MExican politics, and a dash of determining how the political world is set up in La Candidata.***

Hope this helps, y'all!
