Mi marido tiene familia Monday 9/18/17 Capítulo 20: The Pressure is On

We pick up our story . . .

with Blanca (who is going to be the best mother-in-law in the world) getting Daniela, Linda, and Marisol (and even Frida) to go along with her in her plan to treat Julieta so well that they will convince her she can be happy with the family and will not want to move to the USA.

Tulio isn't letting the topic drop with Ana. Now that Juan Pablo has appeared, he wants to know what happened that whole year when Juan Pablo got lost. Ana changed that year for good. What happened to the woman he fell in love with? Ana explains how she was feeling way back then: she was so miserable because she could not live up to the family's expectations when she found out she could not have any children. Tulio says she knew he loved her. Yes, but she knew that he loved his family, too, and she knew how important their opinion was.

At breakfast, Blanca's plan has been put into effect. Blanca is laying it on nice and thick. For breakfast, Blanca has included some "light options" so Julieta can keep that stunning figure she has. As a matter of fact, this morning Blanca is feeling closer to Julieta than she does to her own daughters. Julieta is so cute and charming she is just stealing her heart away. Julieta is all smiles. At Blanca's prompting, Linda tells Julieta she will be replacing her purse that was damaged by the paint. Julieta can hardly believe what she is hearing and tells them that they don't need to. Blanca kicks Marisol under the table so she can put in her two cents about how replacing the purse will clear up any differences and she will see they are not a strange or crazy family. They all chant (led by Frida) that their family is the very best, so very perfect. Julieta thanks them. Blanca says she will learn to love them all very quickly. Audifaz has knowingly been observing it all.

In the dress shop, Belén asks Amalia about which of two dresses she likes better. Amalia asks her what is up. Blanca wants a little something forJ ulieta. Amalia says it sounds more like a bribe to get her to stay. Belén gets on Amalia's case about how much she is eating. Amalia has an ice cream cone. She has also started her singing lessons.

Blanca gives Linda money to replace the purse. She is shocked at how expensive those limited edition designer bags are. She reminds Linda that it has to be just the same. Linda does not miss the chance to tell Blanca that she still does not like Julieta and never will. She reminds Blanca that she doesn't like her either. Blanca asks what is she supposed to do. Julieta is the woman that her son (who she has waited 34 years for) loves.

Julieta tells Robert that she believes that the tension between her and Blanca is lessening. She is also open to doing what she needs to do to get along.

Robert is looking for orphanages for David that care for burn victims so he can get him placed before they leave for New York. He will not leave him alone. Later, Octavio says David won't be easy to place. They will continue looking for his mother. Robert asks Octavio to look out of him. Robert will send him any money he needs. Then Robert talks to David about his own experience at an orphanage and that miracles do exist. He will fight together with him for his happiness.

Belén and Amalia bring the dress for Julieta over to Blanca's. Amalia is not in favor of hypocritical gifts. Belén is happy to help. Blanca will pay them next week. Ana and Imelda arrive. Blanca shows them the dress. Amalia has to make sure that they all know it is just a bribe.

Linda buys a knock off purse from a street vendor after bargaining a good price for it. It is so "identical" to the original it even comes time a certificate of authenticity. Linda keeps the rest of the money for herself and calls Hugo to take him out for coffee.

Blanca delivers the purse to Julieta. She also gives her the dress as a separate gift. Blanca wants her to see it as a gesture to be a little closer to her. Early on they had a bit of a difficult relationship but now their relationship is excellent. Julieta agrees. Blanca asks if by any chance Julieta can postpone the trip to New York. Julieta says it is too late for that. Everything is already set up and ready to go.

Audifaz talks to Eugenio about the offer he received to rent the apartment with the rent paid one year in advance which is very convenient for him. Eugenio accepts and signs the new lease deal. Audifaz reminds him he has to let Juan Pablo go. Eugenio agrees he is no one to stop Juan Pablo. Juan Pablo lived without them as a child and will be able to do the same as an adult.

Blanca tells Imelda that she is disappointed she couldn't convince Julieta to postpone their trip. Imelda has thought it over. They are not going to get in Juan Pablo's and Julieta's way as they live their lives. They have no right to stop them. Love is letting Juan Pablo go. Imelda says life has taught her you cannot stop people from living what they need to live. One of the greatest acts of love is to let others fly. Blanca need to let them go. There are tears all around.

Amalia is upset with Linda that her photos she had allowed to be taken at the plastic surgeon's office have appeared in ads all over. Linda reminds her of the release in the contract she signed to get the discount on the liposuction. Belén tries to come the rescue saying Linda tricked Amalia.

Blanca asks Eugenio about the rental of Robert's apartment. Eugenio tells her he signed the new contract. Juan Pablo will be there the remainder of the month. Eugenio reminds her that suffering solves nothing. She insists that mothers think differently.

At the hospital, Robert talks to a superior about the child burn foundation. He is then asked to go to Cancún to replace another doctor to give a lecture about burn treatment. Robert agrees to give the lecture. He thanks his superior for approving his leave of absence.

Julieta is in a smoke filled kitchen and is left with some burned bits of something in a frying pan. This cooking thing is not for her. She also remembers Imelda in the park telling her that time was against her so she didn't know if she would still be alive to see them alive and happy again with them moving to New York.

Catalina and Diana have arrived at the apartment building to see Julieta. Catalina is going on about Julieta leaving and not giving them money. They run into Blanca. Blanca invites them in for coffee and fresh bread. Catalina wants to talk about Julieta and Robert leaving. Blanca is clearly interested in that topic, too.

Bruno and Linda are having their date. Linda says he sure had the wrong impression of her. Was her wanting to see him something bad? He says no. What does he want? He wants to get to know people and see what happens. He has to be careful of hypocrites, people who aren't honest. Linda says there are people who are honest and valuable like her.(It looks like this is more than coffee)Looking at the menu she asks him what he thinks about the escamoles (dish of fried ant larvae). He says they are expensive as is everything on menu. Linda ends up volunteering to pay the bill this time. Bruno goes to the men's room and calls Cornelio to tell him that Linda isn't how he described her. She is pretty, smiley, and invited him out. Cornelio tells him to watch out and not fall into her trap. Linda is left at the table checking her money and adding up the bill in her head. She pays the bill when he comes back. When Bruno leaves he leaves her a note to call him in five minutes if she wants to see him again. She argues with herself but ends up calling him. She wants to go out with him but as friends only. He needs to think that over. Linda is frustrated.

Catalina has moved on to Julieta's apartment with Diana in tow and is giving Julieta an earful trying to talk her out of leaving. She never took any of the families into account. Julieta tells Catalina how hard it is to live with her. She does not hate her because she is her mother. Catalina likes to boss people around. Julieta warns Diana that if she gives in, Catalina will just run her over. Julieta loves her mother but it is all just too painful. Catalina wants Diana to explain that Hugo is unemployed and they need money but Diana has too much self respect to ask Julieta for things that have nothing to do with her. Catalina feels sorry for Blanca asking Julieta not to go. Julieta is insensitive. Julieta lets Catalina have it. She tells Catalina that she is sick of her criticisms, sick of her brothers that only contact her to get money, and sick of listening to her always telling her she did the wrong thing. Julieta informs her she has one objective: to get away from her and her mistreatment.

Sisters talk: Daniela has to find a job. She cannot take being shut up in the house. She asks Marisol what she wants to do with her life. She doesn't know. What did she want to do when she was a kid? She loved anything to do with concerts, the theater, show biz. Daniela asks her why doesn't she do something related to that. Marisol says she always was afraid to say what she wanted. She followed what her mother and grandma said. Daniela knows that answer: get married and have a family. Gabriel breaks up the conversation with a phone call to Daniela. He wants her to come on by and take that table with the bad vibes far away from him. He'll send her his address and she can let him know when she is coming. He hangs up. Daniela is frustrated. Marisol asks if it is a call from the guy she likes. She goes on about how she cannot stand him and how strange he is. Marisol asks if he is stranger than she is. Daniela finally smiles.

Julieta is on the phone with Robert. The door bell ringing cuts the call short. It is Blanca! She has a shopping bag filled with food. It is time for Julieta's cooking lesson! She gets bossy from the get go telling Julieta that she needs to change her clothes and get into something comfy and not so classy to cook in. Julieta changes. Julieta says she did try to cook something today but it was a failure. Blanca tells her to just listen to her teacher. Blanca plows on ahead with a menu set for a whole week and all sorts of foods/ingredients that Julieta has never seen. Julieta says they don't eat at home everyday. Blanca thinks that is her fault for not having a meal cooked everyday. If she wants a real home, she will have to stop being lazy. She will save money. They can eat healthy. Also, her husband will have a reason to be with her. Oh, yes, they aren't married yet. Not cooking could be deal breaker for a wedding! Julieta tries to convince her that she and Robert think differently about things. Blanca says no matter what a man needs a woman to organize his life with a delicious supper when he gets home from work. She has to spoil him. Julieta reminds her that she works, too. Blanca tells her she has to give time to everything. At this point, Julieta would like to let "class" go for another day. She just had a hard time with her mother. Blanca thinks cooking is a great way to relieve stress. She orders Julieta to go take a pill for her headache. Julieta goes to her room to count to ten but ends up thinking it probably would take her a count to one thousand to calm herself down. The cooking lesson continues with more disagreements. Blanca keeps asking if Julieta is angry. Julieta keeps saying she is happy accompanied by a great big smile. Blanca hopes so because you can tell the mood of the cook in the food. Julieta has to learn how to be a good homemaker. She even needs to learn how to iron. Yes, Blanca will give her ironing lessons! Blanca has a super duper apron for Julieta. It looks just like hers but in a different color.

At Imelda's house, Ana is talking with Imelda about Robert and Julia moving. Imelda suspects that Ana has something else to tell her. Ana tells Imelda that there is good news. Tulio will be based in Mexico City and will have time for them now. Imelda is not too sure about that. She always feels like he is reacting to her as if she did something horrible to him and he has never forgiven her. Ana says that is just how he makes her feel. Ana shares that Tulio says she changed the year that Juan Pablo disappeared but she thinks it was he who changed when she found out she could not have children. Imelda says that she remembers how very upset Ana was and then remembers (Imelda keeps this to herself) telling Tulio to dump Ana because a woman who could not have children was useless to him. As they leave, Imelda and Ana are continuing their conversation on the street. Ana is still upset but doesn't want to talk about it because it hurts too much. Imelda tells her that she has to experience the pain in order to heal. At first, nobody notices Javier hiding behind a tree listening to everything. Suddenly, Ana notices him and excuses herself for a second to make a phone call.

Everything hits the fan in the kitchen when Julieta adds some wet piece of food to a hot pan with oil and the oil splatters all over and on her arm. Blanca tells her not to be stupid. Julieta cannot believe that Blanca called her stupid. Blanca apologizes but just cannot understand how anybody would put a wet piece of food in hot oil. Julieta makes it clear she doesn't like expressions like "stupid". Blanca apologizes again and then gets busy cleaning up and complaining about all of the splattered grease. How will Julieta ever have a home if she just doesn't know . . . (how to do things?) Julieta goes off saying there are other ways of doing things and she doesn't want to follow in Blanca's footsteps. She does not want to be frustrated, bitter, and sad like Blanca who is living a life she does not like. Blanca feels offended. Blanca insists she never told her any of that. She sure did. Julieta informs her she told her all that when they got drunk together. Blanca even started crying. Julieta describes herself as another kind of woman. She wants the world to be aware of her existence. Blanca, totally defeated, sits down and calls Julieta cruel and ungrateful. She cannot believe she could talk to her like that when she has put so much effort in trying to get along with her. She stands up. Julieta gets in her face. Is Blanca just treating her "so well" so that they will stay and not leave or because she really does like her. Before Blanca can answer, the door opens and it is Robert. He asks if everything is going well. They both answer yes with great big smiles.

As I understand little of what is said, I often feel like I am watching a silent movie, able only to gauge some of the action (and inaction) from expressions and physical movement. Jarifa, I "missed" so much of what actually transpired last night. Thank you for your excellent summation filled to the brim with humor, wit and wisdom.

Among your amazing lines,"Audifaz has knowingly been observing it all" and " Catalina wants to talk about Julieta and Robert leaving. Blanca is clearly interested in that topic, too" stood out as my favorites.

“Then Robert talks to David about his own experience at an orphanage and that miracles do exist. He will fight together with him for his happiness”. Tears…I still think David’s place is with Robert. Someone (wisely) pointed out the other day that while Robert may be ready for a child, Julieta is likely not. I agree but feel that once she removes the mental restraints placed on her by Catalina, her heart will grow and she might be receptive to raising this sweet child.

“Julieta informs her she has one objective: to get away from her and her mistreatment”. Just as Robert has every reason to stay (a loving, supportive family), Julieta certainly has every reason to leave (a demanding, draining family). I just now am realizing how unhappy Julieta is and cannot blame her for a fresh start at life, far away from her monstrous mother.

"Juan Pablo lived without them as a child and will be able to do the same as an adult". Yes. But now there will be a void where real flesh and blood family existed.

I enjoy the sisters interaction. "Marisol asks if he is stranger than she is. Daniela finally smiles". I also laughed at Blanca's "Not cooking could be a deal breaker for a wedding!" I don't believe so Blanca, but thank you for the smile.

So Imelda told Tulio to leave Ana because she couldn't have children. Imelda is a bit of an iron maiden, isn't she? Not all sugar certainly.

Blanca and Julieta are wonderful to watch. Separately and apart. My heart ached for Eugenio signing the rental agreement. You could see he is devastated.

This show tugs at my heartstrings.

Jarifa, another incredible job. Thank you!

Diana

Diana, thank you! I think my favorite scenes were those of Blanca's cooking lesson. Blanca is clearly a woman from another era just trying to teach what has worked the best for her. On the other hand, I can feel the hairs being raised on the back of Julieta's neck as the "role" Blanca is prescribing is so all-encompassing and even suffocating. The super duper apron screamed 1950 to me and I wanted to run screaming. : ) As for calling Julieta "stupid", I think it was just one of those expressions Blanca would use with her own brood and Julieta is going to have to get a little thicker skin dealing with the free-wheeling mouths of the Córcega-clan women. Their smiles in the last scene were precious.

One more thing, I loved the kick under the table. It reminded me of my own mother.

Yes. I received a few "kicks" myself Jarifa...

The chemistry is so great here - all the way around. Blanca works like a modern woman but alas, her thinking has not quite caught up to reality.

Truth be told, I hate to cook. I mean, I really, really do. But I have never, ever enjoyed it. So I truly commiserate with Julieta!

Diana

Jarifa: Maraming Salamat po!

Tagalog, eh? You're welcome!

Jarifa, marvelous job on the recap! Thank you!!

Diana, I agree with everything you said. Robert is already such a great dad to David. Julieta may fear being a mom because of her experience with her own mother..and now with Blanca, but I think in the end she will follow Robert's lead.

Ditto on the Blanca/Juiieta scenes, these actresses really are doing a fantastic job...and they both "boiled over"...and are like oil and water themselves...something we expected; it just came sooner than I thought. Audifaz looked so proud that Blanca took his advice, unfortunately, it didn't last very long.

So Imelda did drive Tulio away. My perception of Tulio is slowly changing. He seems to having been completely in love and supportive of Ana, but she too, drove him away...just like his mother. Maybe that's why he pushes Ana onto his mother...he thinks they deserve each other.

Diana, I like to cook and bake, but it's just too darned hot to turn on the stove!

Rgv Chick, I applaud you for being able to look beyond Tulio's dark exterior. You are seeing a side to him that I can't quite envision. He seems so mean and menacing (the actor always plays such a villain!).

I can only imagine how hard Ana's heart was hardened by her disappointment in not being able to have children. And Imelda was dead wrong to try and get her son to leave Ana. But I am having a hard time believing Tulio didn't exacerbate an already fragile situation.

I blame Ana for what she did to Roberto. As Tulio obviously knew what occurred, he can't be blameless.

Poor Julieta is in a no win situation, isn't she? Leave the family or stay with the family! Hopefully staying will become a more appealing option. In time :)

Diana

Thank you so much ,,Jarifa. I was surfing between this show, Dancing with the Stars, and another show.

Diana, we have another thing in common..I ,too, hate cooking. I did it for many years along with all the grocery shopping, cleaning, and laundry , but now Hubba makes most of our breakfasts and dinners!

Wow, I am so thankful that I had a sweet motherinlaw. Imelda is a real butinski.

The scenes if Robpab and David are so lovely. Robpab must adopt that little guy.

Poor Julieta now has to deal with her own bossy, begging mother and Blanca. I am surprised that she isn't running away as fast as she can.

Diana, the only reason I'm giving Tulio some credit is because he looked really sincere when he was talking to Ana. Imelda's flashback helped explain why he prefers not to see her...he must have been so hurt and disappointed that his mother wanted him to leave Ana because she couldn't have children and was of no "use" to him. I think he truly loved Ana. BUT if he even suspects that Ana took Juan Pablo and covered for her, he will loose any points he has up to now.

Thanks Jarifa!!!

I don't like the Tulio of today but he sounds like he was a good person in the past. He loved Ana, stayed with her after his mom said to leave her and would have considered other means of having children. I'm sure Ana felt the judgment from Imelda (she can't hide her feelings) and maybe from the rest of the family too. Perhaps she stole JP in order to get back at them and show them what it feels like to lose a child. Completely unsupportable when she didn't come back to her senses and get JP back. Sounds like she then distanced herself from Tulio. I wonder if Tulio has remained with her all of these years just to spite his mother.

Wow I felt for Juli during that cooking scene. I can't cook and have no interest. The way Blanca bulldozed in and pushy pushy.

Juli's mother is so awful. I haven't seen Hugo or Bruno ask her for money but we know she is paying for Bruno's school. Diana needs to take her job and money and move her and Hugo into an apartment.

Linda basically stealing her mother's money was too much. She really is awful too! I wonder if Juli will call her out on the knockoff purse.

I'm interested to see how Dani reacts to being in Gabi's apartment. Actually, I'm interested in seeing how big a place he lives in. His bedroom didn't look very big for an "empresario".

You're welcome, RgvChick, Susanlynn and Carvivlie.

I like to cook and bake but we gave a stretch of 90+ weather coming up so like RgvChick, I won't be turning on the stove. There always are those Costco rotisserie chickens . . .

Jarifa: My heartfelt condolences on the news of the devastating earthquake in Mexico City.

Yes, Steve. Praying for everyone in Mexico (the death toll is rising) in addition to all affected by the past and present hurricanes.

I doubt any of the TNs will run tonight, but I am not at all positive so please don't take my opinion as fact.

Diana

Thanks, Jarifa. Lots of energy in your recap.

Just yesterday Mexico was offering support to the U.S. on the hurricanes. Now this. Prayers for Mexico.

Thanks, Niecie. Exactly, it is time for prayers for Mexico.

Sending out prayers for Mexico.

If any of you are going through withdrawal, a 16 second avance of the next episode is on the univision website.

Looks like regular programming for today...YAY!!

Thank you Jarifa and Rgv Chick for your recaps!

Question --- if RobPablo has been gone 34 years, and he was approx. 4-5 years old when he disappeared, then he is almost 40 years old? Do I have this right? Even if he is 34 years old, QTH was he doing in bed with his parents. I thought that scene was kind of . . . strange. LOL

I really feel for Julieta because she is trying to get along with Blanca, and Blanca is so annoying by trying to makeover Juli in her (Blanca's) own image. Ugh . . . I wonder how long this will last. Blanca is driving ME crazy.

Well, the Córsega family are all sort of crazy, except for Eugenio. RobPab is so normal and sane, that his adoptive parents must have been really normal, well-adjusted, sane people. On that level only(!) I think Ana did RobPablo a favor by stealing him and taking him to an orphanage. Otherwise, he might have turned out like Audifaz! Valgame Dios! ;-p

Juli's mother is horrible. Absolutely horrible. Always criticizing Julieta and looking at her like she is the family meal ticket/ATM machine. Seriously, those brothers won't ever find a job as long as Juli is bankrolling their lifestyle. Why are these people so entitled???

Hi, Doris!!! How are you doing? I enjoyed your take on these crazy characters. Telenovelas always make me thank my lucky stars that these characters are not in my personal orbit.

Doris, Nice to see you here. Yep, JP was 4 when Ana snatched him + missing 34 years = 38.

I've been down on Julieta wanting to leave so soon, but after the forced cooking lesson with that complicated dish, I'd be ready to head for NYC too. Blanca couldn't have started her off with a simple dish like chicken soup?

Interesting that we see Blanca and her sisters bonding (even though all three are wildly different), but not Eugenio, Audifaz the moocher, and Tulio together just for fun. Imelda seemed to have been quite the tyrant with her boys.

I saw a Seinfeld episode last night and I swear he and Gabriel have some similarities -- maybe body gestures?
