Mi marido tiene familia Wednesday 10/25/17 Capítulo 46: One Step Forward ??? Steps Back

A little bit of this and a little bit of that . . .

The manager (who I thought was a music producer) decides to take Xavi on and help him reignite his music career. Xavi goes to tell Marisol and to thank her for her support. What Xavi does not know is that the manager is only agreeing to work with Xavi as revenge. It seems that when Xavi was famous he treated him shabbily because he was young and inexperienced. He wanted to represent him back then and Xavi ignored him and looked down on him. The manager has not forgotten the slight. It is payback time. He will be the last one laughing.

Robert is making breakfast and is upset that Dave is leaving the foundation. It is bringing up his own past. Julieta is there for him. Robert really has grown fond of Dave and wants him to have a good life. All he needs now is a hug from Julieta.

Julieta thought she was doing something nice by buying Blanca a new wash machine since she was having problems with hers. Polita and Audifaz see it in the hall and are all excited. Polita wishes someone would buy her a wash machine. Blanca sees the wash machine and a gift card from Julieta thanking her "mamá suegra" for her affection and gets angry. She orders them to take it away. She does not need it. Blanca goes to see Julieta. Blanca sees the gift as an act of humiliation. Her coming over to do her laundry at Julieta's was just because she needed to wash clothes. She wasn't asking her to buy her a new wash machine. Julieta does not have to buy her affection. She should be watching her money. She has a baby coming. Blanca does not want her spending money on her. Julieta ends up returning the wash machine.

Roberto and Dave's pals see him off at the orphanage. Robert tells him he will be okay. They are going to travel life's path together no matter where they end up. Robert will visit him and get permission to take him home for visits. Robert remembers his own experience as he hands over Dave to the orphanage official. Julieta is there to comfort him in his grief.

Ana appears at Julián's door saying that she needs him. Julián confesses that he is in love with Ana. He has never felt anything like what he feels for her. He wants to enter her heart and take away her pain. Ana mentions that Robert is remembering more and more. What will happen if he remembers her? Julián says they will escape together. He goes to kiss her but Ana cannot kiss him and leaves. Later we see that Ana is uncertain about what she is feeling and can't get Julián out of her mind.

Benjamín is planning his bachelor party at the restaurant. Gabriel is not pleased. Danilo the waiter tells him that he must want to see Daniela. Just then Daniela comes flying in three minutes late. As of today, Gabriel announces that everyone is going to get penalized for being late. Anyway, he is worried about her. She thanks him for having gone with her the other night but she can take care of herself. She doesn't need an "older brother" at work. Gabriel certainly does not want to be considered an "older brother". He tells her about the bachelor party. Gabriel tells Daniela that he is open to telling Benjamín that the restaurant is booked full so he will have to takd his party elsewhere. Daniela says that business is business and to let them come.

The manager asks Xavi where his fans are today. Xavi says he asked them not to cause a commotion at his office. The manager reminds him it is going to be a long hard time getting back to the top. Is he ready for the challenge? Yes, Xavi is. They drink to it. The manager gives Xavi a contract to sign. He tells him to read it. Xavi doesn't bother because he says he knows what is in these contracts and just signs away. (Uh,oh!) The manager laughs.

Imelda is on Blanca's case telling her she always has to make things extremely hard. Julieta just might have given her the wash machine with no ulterior motive. The wash machine is older than the two of them together. Blanca explains it wasn't the wash machine per se it was just that she didn't want Julieta giving her something that expensive. She doesn't need them to help her. Imelda still doesn't get why she wouldn't accept something given out of good will. She then quips at least the gift wasn't more driving lessons. If Julieta were to help her with things like the wash machine, Blanca would have more time to tend to her family. Blanca asks of that is all she is good for: tending to her family? Yes, that is what Imelda was saying. Blanca is upset being reduced to someone's wife, someone's mother and someone's daughter-in-law. Imelda continues to bait her and laugh.

Julieta and Robert go to their pre-cana class at the church. The priest starts out talking about how everyone attending should be there freely and motivated by love. Love is a daily decision. Julieta remembers Luz saying that if she knew then what she knew now, she never would have gotten married because it is a strange contract that turns you into somebody else's belonging. She then asked Julieta if she wanted to get married. The priest asking her why she wants to get married pulls her away from this memory. As they leave, Julieta and Robert start discussing baby names. If it is a boy, Robert would like "Juan Pablo." Julieta is thinking of something more modern like "Justin." Julieta assures a disappointed Robert that it was just a joke. The they conider if it is a girl. Robert says they could give her the name of one of the mothers or grandmothers. Julieta is not buying into that at all. He does insist that the mothers/grandmothers won't stick their noses into the baby name decision. Suddenly it is time for a video chat from Blanca and Imelda. Blanca tells Robert that she had a falling out with Julieta and doesn't want Julieta to have any bad feelings. Imelda plays the comedian in the midst of it all. The call ends. Robert asks, that even after getting to know his family, does Julieta still want to marry him? Yes, she does no matter what. He wants to spend the rest of his life with her.

Blanca comes with some food as a pretext to see Polita and to ask what is going on with Audifaz. Her sisters saw him selling newspapers. Polita says that is a worthy job but he told her he was going to be a manager. He has gotten a second job to make more money. Polita is all smiles and Blanca says she admires how Polita loves Audifaz. Polita and he are so "very special". Polita asks if Blanca is all right. Blanca confesses that she really isn't. Polita remarks how calm she always is. Blanca says she really isn't but "they" have forced her to be that way but the moment arrives when you get tired of all that. Can Polita believe that her mother-in-law Imelda criticized her for learning how to drive? Polita says she is too stupid to learn how to drive. Blanc gets upset with Polita putting her own self down. She has just believed what everybody has told her. It would be like Blanca thinking she was stupid because an ignorant jerk told her so. Polita does think Blanca was stupid, though, for returning the washer. Everyone in the building could have used it.

Audifaz is not having much luck handing out debt collection letters.

Amalia is making it clear one more time that Enzo the dance instructor is going to be hers just so Belén understands. Amalia confesses that she told Enzo to not get involved with Belén or she would ruin him. She is not chasing him but he will fall in love with her. Just as Amalia is leaving, Enzo calls and wants to talk to Belén about her sister. Belén asks him to excuse Amalia. Amalia asks who Belén was talking to. She lies and says it was the guy they pay the rent to. Amalia tells her it better have been.

It is time for Benjamin's bachelor party and he continues his pursuit of Daniela. Gabriel is in constant spy-mode. Daniela tells Benjamin that she told América already that she will not be coming to their wedding. He wants to know why. She asks him what kind of game is he playing. He wants to introduce her to his friends. She just wants to do her job. He wants them to think over everything really well. She is not interested. Gabriel tells Milo waiter to give Benjamín only best mezcal he has in the house. When he is served the mezcal, Benjamín asks if there is not another brand. Gabriel tells him no. Benjamín agrees to serve his friends the best mezcal in Oaxaca. He then calls for everyone's attention to Daniela. He states that he has told Daniela a thousand times that if she would just go out with him, he would cancel his wedding. He asks Daniela why she does not believe him. She tells him to go to . . . China.. If he doesn't want to marry Amërica then he shouldn't play her. She calls him a little man, pushes him away and tells him to leave her in peace.

Julieta confides in Luz how after hearing the priest talk she realized how serious getting married is. Luz says that nowadays you can always get a divorce if things do not work out. Julieta could never divorce Robert. Although it might not be an easy road, she wants her baby to have a family. Julieta has just gotten her wedding invitations. Luz thinks they are divine.

Julieta brings an invitation to her mother but all Catalina cares about is the amount of money Julieta is spending on the wedding when she could be spending it on her brothers. How can Julieta get married while she is abandoning them??? Julieta can forget about all of them because they are not coming to her wedding. She hands back Julieta's invitation to her.

Another father-son project: Eugenio and Robert are getting the nursery ready together. Robert wants Eugenio to have all of those moments he missed with him with his grandchild.

Blanca has just served Imelda a table full of food. Imelda tells Blanca she doesn't have to worry about her since she doesn't like to bother anyone. Blanca wants them to get along in peace. Blanca is finally not as angry as she was until she hears Imelda wonder what she would have to do with Blanca's anger. Well, Blanca did not appreciate her yelling at her in the middle of the street just because she has the hope of learning how to drive. Imelda with her smile reminds Blanca that there is a time for everything. Blanca reminds her she is not old and not a fool.

Gabriel is all upset that Benjamín has upset Daniela. He tells her he doesn't like anyone putting a spoon in his rice. Daniela tells him she is not his rice. She makes it clear she has always defended herself. Gabriel could see it in her face that Benjamin had bothered her. Gabriel then decides to ask Benjamín to leave because nobody is allowed to make anyone who works there uncomfortable.Gabriel keeps pushing him and then takes off his glasses. A couple of punches are thrown but waiters rush in to keep the two from doing further damage to each other.

Imelda is still there with Blanca having pledged silence but still laughing at Blanca learning how to drive. Julieta arrives. She agrees she never should have bought the wash machine. Imelda thought it was a good gift. Julieta has brought over the wedding invitations for them to see and to find out how many they need. Blanca is surprised that she wasn't consulted and is sorry to see that they are not very elegant. Imelda agrees. They are so simple. She should have consulted them because they know a woman that makes really precious invitations. As for the quantity, Blanca says they are going to need 100. Julieta reminds them that it is going to be a small wedding. That is fine by Blanca. Then Blanca will not invite anybody. An exasperated Julieta informs them that she has just had a bad time with her own mother and they are being just like her. Not liking Catalina, Blanca doesn't agree on that description. Julieta goes on about all of the effort she is putting into her relationship with Blanca to work. Blanca tells her that maybe she shouldn't try at all because to be perfectly honest, Blanca had a completely different idea about what her daughter-in-law was going to be like. She tells Julieta not to roll her eyes. Blanca had hoped for a daughter-in-law that would be sweet, kind, calm and who would take her and Imelda into account. Julieta grabs her box of invitations to leave before things get worse. They grab the box and the jamaica water in the pitcher ends up over the table and the invitations.

Oh my.

I didn't get to see this so when I saw the title, I grimaced and thought well this doesn't sound very promising.

Although it appears many of the events were disheartening, the recap was excellent Jarifa.

Loved "She tells him to go to . . . China".

"How can Julieta get married while she is abandoning them???" Right on cue Cat. If there is one thing Julieta can count on from you, it's nastiness to the core.

"Blanca is upset being reduced to someone's wife, someone's mother and someone's daughter-in-law. Imelda continues to bait her and laugh". Uh oh.

I didn't understand Blanca's reaction to the washing machine. It was a well intended gift that could have been shared among the residents as Polita noted.

"Blanca had hoped for a daughter-in-law that would be sweet, kind, calm and who would take her and Imelda into account". Gulp. That was totally uncalled for and hurtful. Has it not occurred to Blanca that there is bound to be some turmoil in the DIL/MIL relationship? It exists in her own. Imagine how devastated she would have been had Imelda hurled those words at her!

Seems like a lot of anguish is being taken out on the wrong people.

There seems to be a convenient "forgetting" that this is Robert and Julieta's wedding. The invitations were an integral part and it would have been nice for someone/anyone to joyfully accept and to be happy with how big or small the wedding will be.

Dear David. Will Robert really let him go??

"He does insist that the mothers/grandmothers won't stick their noses into the baby name decision". Oh Robert. Do you really believe that?? Poor, sweet, gullible Robert.

I wonder what would have happened if Benjamin had cancelled the wedding? It would have proved he wasn't hedging his bets and that he is serious about Dani. Seems Gabi is stuck in the "friend zone". At least for now.

Bad news for Xavi.

I'm not terribly sorry I missed this but am happy and grateful to have your sterling recap Jarifa. Thank you!

Diana

Thanks, Diana. This was a very interesting episode because it seemed like everyone's true colors came out.

I also really felt so bad for Julieta. Nothing was going her way in spite of her good intentions/acts. Blanca was particularly hurtful as you mentioned as was Catalina. Imelda was like a nasty old troll provoking and enjoying everyone else's pain. Amalia was clearly out of it. She wasn't funny.

Nobody was happy las night except for Polita.

Jarifa: OMG! Your recap's title said it all.

I yelled for Xavi to read the contract. No! Whatever this manager is planing is definitely not going to be good.

Diana, I’m a bit confused by Blanca’s reaction too. Does she think Julieta just feels obligated to like her? Aw if only she knew Julieta said she was genuinely starting to like her.

Watching Robert on his knees and David crying was so emotional. Have I mentioned how much I love Daniel Arenas? A lot.

I was kind of happy to see Dani confronting Benjamin. What is he doing? Why does Dani need to say the word for him to cancel his wedding? That’s not romantic. That just makes it seem like he’s going to marry the wrong girl on purpose and possibly blame Dani for not stopping him. Did he really think Dani was going to tell him to call it off? He doesn’t know her as well he think he does.

Meanwhile Gabriel is so jealous, but he is trying to be a good friend. He doesn’t like that Benjamin is causing Dani to feel things which is mostly pain so far. He declares war on his worst enemy, Benjamin. Too funny. I can’t wait to see how Dani reacts to this fight. Knowing Dani, I’m gonna go with anger.

Nothing seems to be going right about this wedding. Ugh. Why do family members have to be so difficult. I feel for Julieta. She needs a break from everybody’s complaints.

Thank you Jarifa for your awesome recap. and including even the small bits like "He tells her he doesn't like anyone putting a spoon in his rice. Daniela tells him she is not his rice.” It’s still making me laugh.

Polita is always happy….unless you insult her son or husband. I love it.

Thanks, Jackie. Yes! Xavi and the contract. Very careless on his part and now we know he is going to pay big time for his momentary lapse. There are so many good subplots in this one.

Jackie, I had thought initially that Horacio Pancheri would have been the ideal actor to play Robert.

But 5 minutes in, I knew Daniel Arenas was perfect. I agree - he is a gem.

The first time I saw him was in Teresa. He was great there, but is simply shining here. He is totally believable.

I can't recall a more loveable, sweet, kind and smart character. And Zuria Vega is wonderful and they compliment each other so well.

Diana

Superb recap, Jarifa! It's so nasty that Xavi's manager just wants revenge. I hope Xavi and Marisol triumph anyway. Uh oh is right! ITA that it's too bad about Blanca's reaction to the washing machine purchase--and of course Imelda just makes things worse. Gabriel the spy keeps being cute--and even his fight with Benjamín was funny. Yep, Catalina hits a low point of nastiness (even for her) in refusing to come to Julieta's wedding. Can't Julieta just disown this woman?

Jarifa, great retelling of last night's not-so-delightful events. "I also really felt so bad for Julieta. Nothing was going her way in spite of her good intentions/acts. Blanca was particularly hurtful as you mentioned as was Catalina. Imelda was like a nasty old troll provoking and enjoying everyone else's pain." I echo that!!

Jackie, "I yelled for Xavi to read the contract. " Me too! who signs a contract without reading it? Is Xavi really that gullible and trusting of a man he apparently didn't give the time of day to in the past?

I had wished better things for Benjamin previously, but after last night...uh-NO! He deserves America...after that little speech he gave to his friends about Dani, he came across selfish, heartless and egotistical. I wondered if any of his "friends" would also be America's friend...seems Benjamin didn't care if anyone went and told America about his confession. Gabi wins my heart by the minute. I love his "spying" tactics, not to mention how he is so protective of Dani...does hse really not see his true intentions?

Ana and Julian...bleh

SpanProf, our comments crossed, "Gabriel the spy keeps being cute--and even his fight with Benjamín was funny." The fight ws truly hilarious...poor Gabi, reminded me og the lion in the Wizard of Oz, "Put 'em up, put 'em up." then gets knocked on his hiney.

Jarifa: Yes very good subplots. I love them all.....l except Julian and Ana

Diana: I don't remember what I first saw Arenas in (I think it was Amor Indomable which I didn't really watch too much of) , but I knew I always liked him as an actor. And Zuria Vega I've always been a fan. You're right They do compliment each other very well.

RgvChick: "the lion in the Wizard of Oz, "Put 'em up, put 'em up." hahaha yes! He looks like he can't fight at all but it's so funny that he's trying. "he came across selfish, heartless and egotistical." I agree. Dani deserves better than this. If he really wants a chance he's going to have to make up for it this time. Gabriel may be a little too much in his head, but he's not selfish and he has good intentions.

Spanprof: Gabriel the spy is my favorite. I think his chef disguise will remain my favorite.

-Jackie

RgvChick, I guess Benji's true colors were revealed last night. It's just as well because I liked him a lot initially too and although I agree with everyone that Gabi is great, wanted Dani to be happy if Benji was her choice.

Diana

That was great Jarifa! I have missed a lot yesterday and today because of switching back and forth with the World Series. I am going to have to go back and watch the shows I missed last Thursday, Friday, and Monday too. I thought Julieta and Blanca were getting along better. I'll have to see what happened. Blanca is just too prideful. If one of my kids decided to get me a new washing machine, I'd be jumping for joy. My kids gave me a new desktop computer for Mother's Day one time and I was just ecstatic. Sometimes it feels strange getting gifts from your grown children, but I have learned to be gracious.

Oh that scene where the pitcher spilled out....oh....What is wrong with Grandma Imelda and Blanca? I just don't get all this rotten criticism! A wedding invitation may not be your style, but gosh, they could be gracious enough to say, "It's lovely dear. Thank you very much." I would never have told my kids that their wedding invitations were not to my liking. Good grief, it's their wedding!

Thanks so much Jarifa!!! Title was perfect except I think she has gone 10 steps back. Oye these people!!!

OMG I felt awful for Julieta at the end of this episode. She tried to help Blanca, which seems to have brought Blanca's frustrations in life up to the surface, and now which Blanca is taking out on Julieta. Catalina is a piece of work. What an awful awful woman and Bruno just sat there. These people don't deserve Juli!

The scene with David was heartbreaking. So many children go into foster care or group homes and never find forever families.

Amalia is delusional and that poor teacher is being sexually harassed. He should bar her from the school.

Xavi is an idiot. More angst to come.

So true that we now see Ben's true colors. He is just what Dani called him--a coward. If you aren't happy with your fiance, break up, don't use Dani as an excuse.

Gabi is hysterical. Watching him fight made me think he had never been in a physical fight before.

"So many children go into foster care or group homes and never find forever families". My eyes filled Carvivlie.

I'm only grateful I missed the Robert/David scene.

Because I love Robert, I 'm only a tiny bit frustrated he hasn't thought about adopting David. I think his focus is on the many issues demanding his time and emotions. People who adopt are heroes in my book. And David fits that description to a "t".

Diana

I’ m trying to get caught up today. Thank you RgvChick for Tuesday night’s recap and Jarifa for last night’s recap!!!

Blanca’s overreaction to the washing machine was a bit much. That woman has been living under a rock for too long.

Julieta = My Big Fat Córsega Wedding. OMG

Catalina hit a new low in emotional blackmail. She is despicable, selfish, self-centered, and now dead to me. B!tch. Get a job, lady, along with your sons.

I just wanted to cry when the little blue Teletubby was turned over to the orphanage. Gut-wrenching.
Hopefully his mother will turn up. This is not a good time for Robert to even think of adopting him. Too much else going on with The Family. ~sigh~

Benji is a jerk and Dani dodged a bullet.

Ana/Julian = FFWD-->
Amalia/Belen = FFWD-->

At least we got a break from not-so-Linda last night.

I really hope Juli tells Rob what happened with her mother and Blanca and Imelda. He needs to know what witches they are all being.

Thanks, Jarifa. Lots if energy in your recap. I missed watching last night. Sorry I didn't see Gabriel putting up his dukes!

Blanca is upset being reduced to someone's wife, someone's mother and someone's daughter-in-law.

I can't feel bad for Blanca because she is so mean to Julieta. Blanca speaks of wanting to be respected as an individual, not a wife or mother, but she's always trying to make Julieta feel inadequate. Dissing the invitations (already printed and ready to go) was just cruel and selfish.

I'm starting to think that Benji and América, like Linda and Bruno, probably deserve each other.

Carvivlie, I agree! I hope Julieta tells Rob what is going on with his mother and grandmother. Those women do not know the meaning of being tactful and gracious. They think they can get off saying anything that is on their minds no matter how much it hurts another person. How do they like it when someone speaks their mind about them? But to them that's no ok, but it is ok for them to rag mercilessly on Julieta and anyone else the feel deserves criticism. The worst thing is they don't do it in private, they do it right to their faces!

"Catalina hit a new low in emotional blackmail. She is despicable, selfish, self-centered, and now dead to me. B!tch. Get a job, lady, along with your sons".

Gee doris, I really wish you would stop beating around the bush and tell us how you really feel! :) (totally agree, btw)

SpanProf, Linda and Bruno definitely do deserve each other. I thought America might be a bit more punishment than Benji deserves but there's plenty of time to change my mind :)

Cynthia, I think Blanca (especially) has channeled her anger toward Julieta. Totally undeserved and unjustified. And as you pointed out Jarifa, the invitation fiasco sounds just cringe worthy.

Diana

I meant as you pointed out Niecie (not Jarifa)...

Diana

Thanks, everybody!

SpanProf, the "revengeful manager" was one plot twist I was not expecting.

RgvChick, I have no sympathy for that snake Benjamín either. Why would he not break up with América if he still felt something for Daniela? It sounds like he always has to have a woman on the line and it does not mater who it is. But of course, América deserves what she gets, too.

Cynthia, Blanca clearly does no know how to be gracious. She needs to get her head straight about a whole bunch of things.

doris, it was sure great not having to see "not so Linda" last night. She was only mentioned once and I didn't even include that in the recap. ; )

Carvivlie, ITA abou Amalia beng delusional and the sexual harassment aspect of her business relationship wth Enzo. She is a mess.

Niecie, Blanca has a lot of soul-searching to do about her life. It is too bad that Julieta has to be in her line of fire.
