Mi marido tiene familia Wednesday 11/29/17 Capítulo 69: Hopes for the Future-OR-Applause All Around

Looks like they started a few minutes early eventhough all of the listings showed them ending a few minutes early but not starting a few minutes early. The usual Univision shenanigans . . . Anyway . . .It looks like Gabriel has ended up at the Córcega’s with Daniela for dinner. He willingly calls Blanca “mamá suegra” and is told by Imelda that “Imelda” is just fine by her. He has brought them both gifts and seems to be a hit with both of them. He loves the food so much he applauds.

Outside of the apartment building, Robert and Eugenio confront Tulio about the document he had Imelda sign. Tulio states that it was the correct and legal thing to do. He did not force her to sign it. Robert does not believe him and asks him if he did not take advantage of the fact that she was ill. Tulio doesn’t want to hear about their “victimization”. Eugenio wants to know if their mother knew what she was signing. Eugenio thinks that Tulio fooled her which is neither legal or correct. Tulio gets straight to the point. The document is already signed and he needs his money or they had better get ready to turn over the apartment building and the bakery to him. Robert interrupts saying it is one thing to talk about the money that is owed him and another is blackmail. Tulio tells Robert if he is going to act as the defender of the Córcega’s then he can pay him what is owed to him. As of now, Robert has not deposited not one peso into his account. Isn’t he a successful doctor? Tulio then remembers Robert is renting an apartment in "this" neighborhood in the city. Robert reminds Tulio of the deal they initially had. The Córcega’s would stay quiet about the abduction of Juan Pablo  and Tulio would forget the debt. Is not Tulio a man of his word? Tulio says okay then since Robert deals with problems like a man. Tulio then turns to Eugenio and says it is pretty bad when Robert has to stick up for him. Eugenio lunges for Tulio. Robert pushes him back. Tulio insists that he is only telling the truth. Robert informs Tulio that he will not allow him to threaten his family. He thought that Tulio’s word meant something but he is realizing that he is just a liar. When they pay him the debt, he hopes that he and Ana go straight to the hell they deserve. Tulio finds it interesting that Robert is giving him the conditions of the deal. Robert tells him to stay away from his family or he will pay the consequences. They leave Tulio standing outside of the apartment building.

Back at the dinner, Imelda asks Gabriel if she can call him “tú”. Of course, he answers. Imelda wants to know what his intentions are with Daniela. He assure Bkanca and Imelda that his intentions are the best. The relationship that he has with Daniela is serious. He squeezes Daniela’s hand and raises it so they can see the ring. The mood is broken whe Eugenio and Robert walk in.

Bruno visits Linda at work. He has brought her a “Mi marido tiene familia” cellphone case. It is something that will make her remember him whenever she looks at her phone. She puts the case on her phone. There is more coming. He has a message for her. He texts her askng if she wants to be his girlfriend. She texts him back that of course, she does. Bruno concludes they are officially novios again and reminds her they will have to keep it hidden from his sister. Linda thinks Julieta really hates her but maybe she could win her over little by little by being like her name and making peace. She will try real hard and do it for him. He hopes it works.

Back at the dinner, Eugenio asks how the “oso” (bear) is doing and Daniela has to explain that her father is not referring to her but is referring to Gabriel. Robert just shakes his head in disbelief. Imelda thinks that “nervioso” (nervous) would be a better nickname for him. Eugenio wants to know what he is doing there. Gabriel explains that he decided to dare to make a visit and try the wonderful food. Robert cannot believe what he is hearing because it sounds so lame. Ganriel tries to call Eugenio “papá suegro” (daddy father-in-law) but that does not fly. He is to call him “don Eugenio”. Blanca tells her husband not to get angry because Gabriel is just being polite and classy. Eugenio informs Gabriel that one has to ask permission to come to that house. Daniela is mortified and starts to answer. Eugenio and Robert tell her that Gabriel can answer for himself. Robert wants to know when they formalized their relationship because nobody ever talked to him about it. Daniel says they were going to tell them little by little. Gabriel continues stating that different families have different customs. Imelda reminds Daniela that Robert as her older brother has a right to advise her, too. Robert tells Imelda that he really cannot give much of an opinion about how the family runs. For that, he respects what his father and his mother think as well as Imelda. Daniela thinks her father is exaggerating. Gabriel thinks not because there are certain protocols that he is going to follow; so he formally announces his relationship with Daniela. Eugenio is not pleased and complains it is too quick but then he is not the one who is deciding. Robert just shakes his head. Daniela tells him enough already. Eugenio continues by telling Gabriel to eat, behave himself very well and warns him not to make his daughter suffer. Blanca asks what their guest is going to say. Eugenio says he isn’t going to say anything because he is going to eat which is exactly what Gabriel does.

After dinner, Daniela and Gabriel talk outside. Daniela says that she warned him that the whole family business was going to be weird. He teases her saying that now he knows why she is strange like she is. She answers that his family wasn’t exactly normal. He says that he has an advantage because her family had a good vibe and was warm while his family is strange and cold. He repeats that he said he would do everything he needed to for her. That is a promise. He picks her up and twirls her around. He loves her. she is worried her father will see them and he’ll yell at them. They get all lovey dovey.

Later that night, Robert sees Julieta sleeping on their bed and gently covers her with a blanket. He hopes she still wants to marry him again. He goes to the roof to ask Xavi to help him musically to propose to Julieta again. He wants Xavi to “sing it.” Xavi thinks that marriage just brings problems. Robert disagrees. He is the marrying kind. As Xavi sings, Julieta is awakened and calls Luz telling her that she has come up with an idea on how to propose to Robert.

Daniela is cleaning up the basement when Amalia comes down to see what she is doing. Daniela explains this space is going to be a cape try workshop. Amalia sees it as a new apartment for herself. Daniela says it is very closed in and without adequate ventilation. It is not fitting for an apartment. Amalia starts to moan about having to move all over. Daniela says that none of them like seeing her suffer. Daniela tells her if she ever needs a friend she is there. Daniela knows how it is o feel different and alone because she felt that way for so many years. Amalia understands because she hadn’t to take the place of Juan Pablo and was burdened by guilt that wasn’t hers. Daniela thinks that people just refuse anything that is different, that they discriminate against everyone. Amalia thinks that they just have to accept their suffering and place. Daniela remembers Cassandra telling her that some people are born in first class and others in second or third. Some are born to order and others to serve. As for Daniela she is really third class and should accept her place. Daniela refuses to accept Amalia’s defeatist attitude. She asks Amalia why she doesn’t do anything to change her circumstances or to defend herself. Nobody has the right to mistreat them. Amalia thinks that with everyone pointing out what is wrong with you all of the time, it is hard to fit in. Everyone wants to be perfect. Daniela says that she doesn’t want to be perfect. She just wants to be herself and to be loved eventhough she may be different. She thinks she has finally found the person who will do that.

Bruno and Linda text back and forth realizing that just a hallway separates them. They finally meet at the tree outside the sort end building. Linda says that if they are caught they can always use ”taking out the garbage” as an excuse. When Amalia and Daniela do come out the the garbage, they hide behind a car and kiss.

Robert comes back from visiting Xavi and suspects that something is up with Julieta. He suspects that Julieta is hiding something from him.

In the bakery, Julieta is making a video of Blanca which she is sending to Luz to edit.

Julieta next goes to see Catalina to ask her to be a part of something very important in her life and she wants her to sing. She wants her to sing that song that she always did when Julieta amd her brothers were little kids. Catalina is not so sure she can do it being so sad and all with Bruno not living there, Hugo working all day long and not even lousy Diana being around. Julieta just smiles.

Eugenio runs into Juan Pablo. He asks what is up with Julieta and Blanca. Robert doesn’t know. Eugenio knows when something is up. He is convinced that they are planning a party for him and he sure deserves one.

Julieta sits down with Luz to see the final edited copy of the video. Luz cannot believe that Julieta is actually calling Blanca “mamá suegra”. Julieta explains that it is all about love. When it is edited, Julieta has Luz send it to everybody including Robert. It is a video invitation with Blanca doing the inviting for an event at the bakery. The theme of the invitation is “the magnet”. Julieta and Blanca have a big surprise for Juan Pablo. They are waiting for him (and everyone else)at the bakery. We then see everyone’s joyful reactions to receiving the invitations. Julieta tells Luz if Robert calls asking for more information, she doesn’t know a thing. Julieta leaves for the bakery.

Blanca and Imelda go choosing their outfits for the event. Blanca is so happy. There is no better woman for her son. She loves Julieta so much. Imelda could have bet that she would have never heard those words. Imelda is happy that they are getting along well, just like Blanca and her. Blanca tells her that she just cannot stop thanking God that Imelda is well. Yes, Imelda agrees that her health is good. Blanca asks about the rest. Imelda insists that the rest really does not matter. Blanca realizes she has so many things to be grateful for. She always wondered about what her son was like and what he was doing and now she is going to be a witness at his wedding.

Blanca and Julieta are working in the bakery and are so excited getting everything prepared.

Audifaz gets a text about the party and shows it to Tulio. He asks Tulio if he can leave work and go to the event. He will only be gone a short time. Work schedules with Tulio are very strict so that is a no go. Since Tulio thinks that Audifaz has no cash, Tulio gives him an advance on his salary. Audifaz is surprised and pleased with the amount of the check. Tulio tells him to think about his family and work rather than about parties. Audifaz agrees.

Robert cannot get in touch with Julieta or his mother as he is walking home. His friend Tavo catches up to him on the street. He also got the invitation. No, Robert does not know what is going on. Robert finds it strange he cannot get in contact with Julieta. Tavo warns him he cannot spend his whole life thinking that Julieta is going to disappear. Frida sees them coming and tells everyone.

In the meantime at the orphanage, Dave is depressed and not talking to anyone.

The event is on at the bakery. Everyone is having a good time. Polita is disappointed that Audifaz cannot be there. Imelda wonders how Audifaz came to work for Tulio. Amalia, of course, wants to horn in on Catalina’s musical performance. She says that Catalina doesn’t know how to sing so they should just let her. Xavi suggests that they sing some “coplas” so they end up both singing spontaneous rhyming insults at each other taking turns and each trying to best the other. Everyone gets a good laugh out of the “friendly” competition.

Robert finally arrives and finds out that the party is for him. Blanca assures him this is a very good thing. Hugo Sr. says it is a surprise event for him. Eugenio says he originally thought it was a party for him. They all laugh. Blanca explains that she and Julieta have been working on a new bread for the bakery. Eugenio immediately says it is very difficult to sell a new item in the bakery. Blanca tells him he has to open himself to new ideas. She goes for Julieta who emerges in her bakers outfit with a new bread on covered tray. She speaks to the group and Robert. As they can all see she is more than involved in the bakery thanks to the lessons she got for her mamá suegra Blanca. This is Julieta’s way of showing that she is part of this family as well as her own. She notes that her mother, father, two brothers and sister-in-law are there. Eventhough everybody knows she never wanted in-laws, she is happy today having met such good and lovely people. She loves all of them. Although they will continue having their differences, she does not want to be separated from them. The reason for all of this has a name: Robert and Juan Pablo. So she and Blanca prepared for Robert and the family a special bread whose main ingredient is love. So, she is introducing the new bread to everyone and to him Robert Cooper/ Juan Pablo Córcega the new bread called “Magnet Bread”. Robert removes the cover and there is a bread made up of two-colored dough in the shape of a heart.

Audifaz asks Ana why she didn’t go to the party. She says wasn’t “needed”. Ana looks upset. He asks what is wrong. She says that affection sometimes ends overnight. She would really be grateful if he didn’t ask her so many questions. She has a bad headache.

Julieta explains that they also invented the “Magnet Bread” to sell at the bakery to help increase sales. There are two differently flavored halves that are joined by love. Blanca adds that the secret is if somebody buys “Magnet Bread” they will have to remember that it will attract everything they want in their life. Julieta reminds Robert that their “magnet”is what united them and brought them to live in this building where there were other magnets attracting the boy who had been lost. Robert wants to know if he can just have a taste. Julieta and Blanca warn him to try it very carefully so he can taste the two flavors. He tries two bites and in the second one he discovers a wedding ring which he pulls out of his mouth. There are applause all around. Julieta announces to everyone that Robert is her magnet. She drops to one knee and Robert joins her. She asks him to marry her. She has decided to spend the rest of her life with him because she loves him. He is the marvelous being who attracted her heart like a magnet. They both stand up with their hands joined. Robert is so shocked he cannot speak. Xavi asks if he needs to hear the question again. Daniela tells him to answer already because he is making her nervous. Bratty Linda tells him to think it over V E R Y well. Blanca tells Linda not to be ignorant. Catalina tells Linda to have some respect. Imelda laughs saying that Catalina and Blanca agree on at least one thing. Robert finally answers saying that he cannot find the words to thank Julieta for her love and his answer is yes. He never doubted it for a second. He accepts her proposal to get married and spend the rest of his life with her. (A pissy faced Linda looks on).He loves her and they kiss. Everyone applauds.

Jarifa, your standard of excellence continues. Loved the recap.

“They get all lovey dovey” and “Daniela says that she doesn’t want to be perfect. She just wants to be herself and to be loved even though she may be different” (sign) were among many favorites.

“The usual Univision shenanigans”. Thank you for confirming another inexplicable timing hiccup.

I enjoyed the singing “competition” immensely. Everyone looked like they were having fun. It was nice to see the actress playing Amalia shine a bit, shedding her rather unlikeable character for a few moments. The magnet bread was clever and actually looked delish.

“In the meantime at the orphanage, Dave is depressed and not talking to anyone”. Well, of course he isn’t. Badly burned and abandoned by his mother. Who can blame the poor child? So incredibly sad.

“Ganriel tries to call Eugenio “papá suegro” (daddy father-in-law) but that does not fly”. No, it didn’t did it? A cute moment. “Robert wants to know when they formalized their relationship because nobody ever talked to him about it”. What really surprised me was Robert practically scowling for heaven’s sake, acting like the big brother he is! It is apparent the male family members are immune to Gabi’s charms.

Linda thinks Julieta really hates her but maybe she could win her over little by little by being like her name and making peace. Hmmm. Then perhaps rolling your eyes and making faces where Julieta can see might not be the best plan. But hey, she isn’t doing “A pissy face” behind her back so that is something, right?

Why wasn’t Luz at the proposal?

Xavi is quietly blending in and becoming part of the family. He is a great addition.
I fear for Audi and pray Tulio doesn’t break his spirit. I have no doubt the family will rally and come up with the money to pay him off somehow.

Jarifa, you made my day! Thank you.

Diana

Diana: Is that Jade Fraser in this TN ?

Jarifa: I noticed Jessica Coch is in this TN too.

Yes Steve, Jade Fraser is playing Linda.

Diana

Good Morning!

Jarifa, thank you for yet another spectacular recap! You captured the essence of all the events. That I can see, the only scene at the beginning that was cut was when Julieta, accompanied by Luz, went to pick out Robert's ring. Julieta commented that she has accepted the reality--the family is not going to change and neither is she, but she is at peace with that.

Diana, the singing competition was such a great addition tot he scene...loved it!! Adn "What really surprised me was Robert practically scowling for heaven’s sake" I think he was scowling more because it was Gabriel (Julieta's special friend who told him they had been to the beach together) who he was addressing. I interpreted his statements more as a drollery than a criticism or disapproval.

I didn't like "the talk" Amalia had with Dani, but glad Dani responded the way she did.

The proposal was so creative, I'm just glad Robert didn't swallow the ring...Hahaha!

Tulio continues to be despicable; can we all pitch in and rent that bus Andy suggested?

Thanks Jarifa for the recap. I missed the whole beginning. I had no idea it had started earlier.

I love that Robert quickly took up the role of protective brother and was making faces throughout the dinner. It made me laugh. and of course Eugenio the protective father. I love when he kept telling Gabriel to eat and Gabriel widened his eyes and took big bites of his food. JP Minor is pretty good with comedy. "papa suegro" lol I love it. I hope he keeps trying to call him that. Very cute.

"They get all lovey dovey" It was a cute scene. I'm glad we get to see more of those scenes. I have never seen such wider smiles from either of them. They glow when they're together.

Is it bad I still don't care about Linda and Bruno? I think it's because I just don't get them....I don't understand the point of their story? Young love? They just keep hurting each other. Also Linda wants to change but not for herself...for him...for a boy?? I don't know.

The proposal was so fun and beautiful. Definitely one of my favorite moments of the TN. With everyone gathered there it felt very lively and even I felt like I was there enjoying the surprise with the families. The singing competition. Hilarious. Revealing that the surprise is a new bread Julieta made as to not give anything away yet to Juan Pablo/Robert and then surprise its actually a proposal! It was very well done. I'm very happy for them and I can't wait for that wedding.

Also I haven't been here a few days so I'm not sure what the bus is but if it means a bus to take Tulio very far away from our main characters I will gladly pitch in.

-Jackie

Diana, thanks. Xavi really is just blending in and becoming a part for the family, isn’t he? Great observation. The singing competition was the best: two rather unsympathetic characters going after each other with lots of pointed but good humor.

Steve, I never have seen Jessica Coch before this novela.

RgvChick, thanks for filling in the part of the episode that was on before 8:00 here. I also did not like Amalia and Daniela’s talk. Amalia was her usual self-centered “poor me” self and therefore just plain obnoxious. That was a dangerous move putting the ring in the bread. : )

Yay! A wedding seems to be just around the corner. Something happy!

Another superb recap, Jarifa! I liked the way Robert stood up to Tulio. There ought to be the seeds of a lawsuit in what he said about Imelda having been too out of it to knowingly sign anything, but this is a tn, and none of the Córcegas is a lawyer. I too was a little surprised at Robert's treatment of Dani and Gabriel. He was acting like the stereotypical Latin big brother/future paterfamilias, even though he wasn't actually raised in this family. Yep, the singing duel between Catalina and Amalia was hilarious, especially with the double entendres that their audience reacted to with amused shock. It was kind of like being back in the Middle Ages with a couple of dueling juglares.

"...think he was scowling more because it was Gabriel (Julieta's special friend who told him they had been to the beach together) who he was addressing. I interpreted his statements more as a drollery than a criticism or disapproval".

Rgv Chick, what a memory you have!! I'm sure that did play a part.

SpanProf, I did smile at your noting Robert was certainly acting the part of the big brother.

Jackie, I love JP. I can't imagine anyone else in his role. I smile when he comes on the screen.

The acting has been stellar all the way around.

Diana

Jackie, you are welcome. As you can tell, we are all sick of Tulio.

SpanProf, great comparison to the juglares. On a contemporary note, it reminded me of “playing the dozens”.

Diana, it always surprises me that there are so many actors in the Hispanic world that can do both comedy and drama well. I would think that could add to more $$ in any actor’s pocket . Actors are much more pigeonholed in the US market.

Jarifa, muchísimas gracias! A great and very detailed recap, and extremely helpful.

I love this TN and this episode was one of the better ones. Dani and Gabriel are my favorite couple and I think it's great the way the two of them have blossomed.

What a great party that was with everybody there except Tulio and Ana... and Audifaz. Tread carefully Audi! The singing competion was fun even though I didn't understand the words; the family reactions made it easy enough to keep score.

Jackie, we are all rooting for Tulio to just throw himself under a bus, but no such luck I think.

I love these comments, they help me believe that I'm not crazy taking a telenovela so seriously. (I will admit that, just for a microsecond or so, I thought I might still be crazy but at least I have company :-)

Is Dave going to be coming to these parties in the future? Hmmm...

Andy, you are welcome. For me a lot of the fun watching these novelas comes from being able to comment about them here.

ITA about Audi needing to tread carefully. Frankly, I was surprised that in spite of all he had been through trying to get a job and knowing how Tulio is, that Audifaz would have even asked Tulio to go to the event. I am waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don’t trust Tulio.

Jarifa – Thank you for the recap!!!

Audio problems continue and one point, the entire show went out, as in "test screen". LOL I must endure.....

Was I asleep at the wheel this week? When did Bruno do his about-face re: not-so-Linda? EEEw. Whatever.
And a “MMTF” phone case? Really? QTH? That made no sense to me at all.

Robert’s behavior toward Gabriel is odd. I don’t get why he is so anti-Gab and going all "big brother" on Dani.

I loved the party, the “playing the dozens” (I had to look that one up, Jarifa, and learned something new today, so than you again!), and the proposal. However, my left brain kept thinking “ good thing Robert did not have to eat that entire loaf of bread to get the ring! “ LOL The entire segment had me smiling like the silly old romantic fool. :-)

Honestly, Linda must have a chronic terminal case of PMS. What a bruja.

”Xavi is quietly blending in and becoming part of the family.” Diana, you are so right! Isn't it wonderful?!?!

Andy Banda – yes, Audi needs to tread carefully around Tulio, but I think he is too naïve and trusting.
Jarifa – yes, the other shoe will drop and methinks it won’t be pretty. "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark."

Andy, you are definitely not crazy or alone. I tend to think too much about this TN too especially Dani and Gabriel haha but i can't help it I love them so much. Sharing and exchanging ideas of what we think here is awesome. It's nice to see how we all agree on most things or how we try and predict things. This place really adds to the experience of watching this show.

Doris, I was thinking the same thing! Was I asleep too? Because I have no idea how that happened?? And the phone case made no sense either. I usually like when shows break the fourth wall, but that was a weird way to do it.

-Jackie

Jackie, "the bus" refers to Andy's suggestion that Tulio throw himself under a bus. Just about everyone got on board with that idea. Some of us even want to help him do it :-)

Jackie, I kept wondering if they were giving away or trying to sell those cellphone cases.LOL

doris, you are welcome. Robert’s behavior with Daniela and Gabriel was obnoxious to me. Eugenio’s was bad enough but I could excuse that as him being of a certain age and being her father. I felt sorry for her she was so nervous enough to begin with.

I'm another one who thinks that Robert/JP's interrogation of Gabriel was not really serious. His facial expression said as much I think. I agree with Rgv Chick that it was just drollery. And thank you, Rgv Chick, for "drollery", that's my (English) vocabulary word for today :-)

Sorry I'm late to the party! Thanks so much Jarifa for the awesome recap!!!

I guess Juli never talked with Rob about Gabi's growing feelings for Dani. I think he was trying to have fun at Gabi's expense--but also knowing how Gabi can come across as not caring and transient. Maybe he did worry that Gabi wasn't serious about Dani. Lord knows he doesn't want her to feel any more pain.

Audi accepting that advance on his salary was not good. This plays right into Tulio's hands.

Was happy when Rob told Tulio off. He could have both Ana and Tulio put in jail if he wanted to.

Linda/Bruno meh. How easy was it for him to get her back.

The proposal was awesome. Now waiting for Dafne to come in and try to hijack the wedding.

Thanks, Carvivlie. Linda and Bruno are the big “meh”. You are so right about Audi playing into Tulio’s hands.

As for Robert, I am sticking to my point of view. Even if he wasn’t totally serious, it was too much for Daniela to have to put up with. Why should she a grown woman have to?

Jarifa, you are right about the dinner situation. Poor Dani, who is 34, finally brings a guy home and the family is trying to scare him away. Sheesh

Thanks, Jarifa. Terrific job.

I got a kick out of Eugenio and Robert giving Gabriel a hard time. They could see all the lady family members were as pleased as punch with him, but they were sure to put him in his place. Gabe stepped in it when he asked if he should call Eugenio "papa suegra." Too funny.

Love the dueling song between Catalina and Amalia. Those two should head straight for Broadway.

Thanks, Niecie. The dueling songsters were a hoot.

Why does everyone say Dani is 34? Was it mentioned previously in the show? To be fair everyone looks in their twenties with Robert being the oldest looking followed by Marisol then Daniela and then Linda. If she really is past 30 then wow thats embarrassing to still be getting parental permission to date.

Ana, Dani was born on the day that JP was taken to the orphanage by Ana. That was 34 years ago.
