Sangre

Hola. I've been trying to watch Sangre de mi Tierra. It's the first novella I've watched in many months, and I've found that my Spanish has all but disappeared. I'm hoping I'll understand more as I continue to watch, but I'm far from being able to recap. It would be great if we could get a conversation going. Unfortunately, my DVR failed me in my first attempt to use it, and the version available the next morning on my computer was pretty much unwatchable: buffering every few seconds, captions that at itmes didn't go with the video, and sudden jumps back to the beginning. So there are some important gaps in my understanding of the story line. But if other people offer comments or summaries or whatever, I may be able to chime in as well. Or at least ask questions.

Sangre

Hi Juanita. I'm returning to Telemundo for the fist time since Baja de Mismo Cielo to watch Sangre (I only watched bits/pieces of a few others). I hope it won't disappoint but so far, it's not bad...but I've only watched 2 of the 3 epis.

I can try to comment to help build momentum but if I have to use the beanie cap too often, this one will loose me. My spanish is not good enuf to recap but I'm good for comments here and there. I'm not able to watch each night and can't record.

Sangre

Hi Nett. Welcome back to Telemundo. It would be great if you posted some comments to help build momentum. It's possible that I might be able to join in, but I right now I'd love someone to get things started, and I suspect others may feel the same way.

Sangre

hi Juanita,

5ftLatina at her site "El Cohete" did an excellent detailed recap of the first show here,
http://5ftlatina.com/cohete/

maybe she will do more.

I'm kinda watching this, but "Jenni" soured me on drama, feel sorry for Paloma though, nice girl, who is getting it from all directions, I'm glad they didn't follow through with the rape last night, her sister is a free spirit, love the lady sheriff.

(I'm still using a dial-up internet connection at home and the recaptcha is making it near impossible to make a post from there)

TELEMUNDO...

"José José, el príncipe de la canción" may follow "Milagros de Navidad" which I'm guessing will run to Christmas ???

some interesting cast members are Danna Paola ("¿Quién es quién?", "La Doña") and María Fernanda Yépes (Yessica in the original "Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso")

SANGRE

After my long stint of watching novelas online, (and sadly not commenting on here for a while), Sangre caught me. Maybe because the whole concept of two wine making families fighting makes me think of Gran Reserva (A Spanish series that I absolutely LOVED).

Sangre has its own distinction though, and after
seeing the first 3 episodes I’ve got to say i’m hooked. Juanjo’s up the river without a paddle so far. Him letting go of Aurora just to protect her is pretty noble but it might get him into a pretty sticky situation. As for Aurora, I love her spunk. The girl’s got some ovaries. Juanjo and Aurora are AMAZING together. (Their song is great too.) Let’s just hope Juanjo doesn’t dig himself into a deeper hole... which probably will happen. Rule 1: Never trust anyone while you’re in the tambo m’ijo.

Crisanto needs to tone down the “my way or the highway” mentality. He’s only making things worse. You lose a kid, sure, you have a right to be upset, but pinning it on solely Juanjo is completely unfair. Aurora even said it was just a freak accident and that everyone was pretty much equally drunk/stoned. (It was even Emilio that was passing around the mota.)

For a second I thought Natalia had gone absolutely batty when she started pouring gas over the grapevines. But I could understand why she’d want to burn down the section of land that she’d unwillingly sold to Crisanto. That land had been her family’s all her life. She wasn’t about to lie down and just take it.

Paloma confused me for a minute in the beginning. At first I thought she was gay. (I’d read somewhere that there would be a character with a sexual identity struggle.) But then I saw Jordan and it clicked. Crisanto wasn’t going to like her dating a black guy.
(Honestly Crisanto, interracial relationships are the norm now. It shouldn’t matter.)

So far i’m really liking this novela. But I might need to keep my beanie nearby just in case.

Sangre

deb, thanks VERY much for calling attention to 5ft's recap of episode 1. It was just what I needed. I'm still a bit confused about who's who, but much less so than before.

Madison, I really enjoyed your comments. I too thought that Natalia had completely cracked up when she started pouring gasoline on the grapevines. I was surprised when the others were able to stop her.

For a while, I was assuming that Crisanto was simply the novela's Bad Guy, but then he apologized to Aurora. So either he's going to be a more interesting villain than we normally see in novelas or the real villain isn't yet apparent. (Surely there has to be one, right?)

Sangre

I was disappointed at how fast 30 years or more....of being like family went out the window. Chris is hurting but his kids willingly participated in the drinking and Emilio supplied the drugs but no one is thinking about this. Also, he was in the hospital for days. A thorough exam and xrays should have been done. I think the hospital is negligent for missing this. However, I was ready to blame mom, Merche, cause he started choking after taking a bit of her home cooking.

Chris is also annoying with his macho disdain for the women in his family. We're learning that the formula for the award winning was hers.....as well as Emilio's I think. But for dad to give Roberto a leadership role over his daughter was awful.....regardless of the pending/planned matrimony between the 2.

Chris has run 2 daughters off and the remaining son should run. Lie Emilio, he has been tied down to the area/family forever by accepting the gift of land.

Looks like Aurora gets to return home....which is safest for her. I hate that Jaun will be lured into a life of crime due to the blackmail and fear of further danger to Aurora. I don't see how he gets out of this situation unscathed.

I am liking the pace of this TN. So far so good but I do see some typical cliches and ludicrous story lines ahead....but we will see.

Nett

Sangre

Nett, I agree with just about everything you've said. However, without some typical cliches and ludicrous story lines, how would we know it's a telenovela? :-)

So far between Crisanto and Roberto, it’s going to be interesting. Roberto’s definitely the two faced villain in my opinion. I don’t think he’s just gonna sit back and let Aurora pine over Juanjo. So far he’s earned some points with Aurora for letting her stay at his house.

As for Cris... he earned a few points with me apologizing to Aurora. This might be an improvement, no matter how slight it is.

"SANGRE":

Juanita: Looking forward to seeing this. Anything crazy happening so far ?
