thanks Halimacandi!

hmm, methanol, wiki,

"It is a light, volatile, colorless, flammable liquid with a distinctive odor very similar to that of ethanol (drinking alcohol). However, unlike ethanol, methanol is highly toxic and unfit for consumption"

"Methanol when drunk is metabolized first to formaldehyde and then to formic acid or formate salts. These are poisonous to the central nervous system and may result in blindness, coma, and death."

"the median lethal dose is typically 100 mL"

interesting how smiling bubbly Kimberly just pops up, then leaves.

the Ivan story is moving right along, wait, was there a chain on that chain saw, and did Ivan tell Candi he was going on a long trip, and who was the girl that got run over, his daughter, seems you have to keep watching this show just to figure out what you have already seen.

love the end to every show when the glass explodes.

Sangre

thanks, Halimacandi and deb, for your helpful and interesting comments. deb, I'm not sure I want to watch tonight's episode, since yes, it did look as if Ivan had a chainsaw that he was going to use on Juanjo. I'm assuming/hoping that Telemundo won't sink so low as to let Ivan succeed, but who knows? And yes, I think Candi's days are numbered, assuming zero is a number. Ivan said something to the unconscious Juanjo about the foolishness of trusting your friends, since they always betray you. Presumably he's referring in part to Candi's having brought Juanjo to Ivan. (Though who could blame Candi, forced to choose between his daughter and his best friend?) As for the little girl hit by the car, it wasn't clear to me whether she was Candi's daughter or whether the daughter was the one looking on in horror.

Did Juaquin tell Natalia that he couldn't see? Apparently one of the consequences that methanol can cause is blindness. The doctor did warn that even if Juaquin survived, there could be secuelas. Of course, telenovela medicine has a life of its own. :-)

I was happy to see Meche and Natalia embrace. Apparently Meche's promise years ago to Juaquin's dying wife that she (Meche) would look after Juaquin and Natalia carried more weight with her than the stupid feud between the families.

Sangre

Juanita, I too thought the embrace between Nat and Meche was a good sign. A little late but never the less it might be the start of a long over due reconciliation between the two families. I also appreciated the scene where Serena told Chris off about Emilio and what he would have thought about her trying to study and better herself.

The Juaquin character is so likable...hope he doesn't exit the show but by TN rules...it's time for a main character to exit or be sidelined.

I didn't watch the entire bedroom scene with Meche...I thought Chris turned her down...but sounds like she lit things up. He was moping around like a rejected puppy so I guess she put him out of his misery.

Tonight's epi will be interesting. I don't see how Juan gets out of this...he's got a time bomb ticking in his kidney and he's out numbered....and clueless Susan is not on the trail....or is she?

I made a comment some time ago about Juan and Serena hitting the sheets together but it sounds like I was wrong. I realize now...I must have seen the epi where Aurora dreamed she was with him....and thought it was Serena for real. So for now, Serena is still in the friend box...despite the celebratory kiss in the hospital. Question is...does she stay in the friend box fore ever...or does something happen between them eventually.

A distressing amount of last night's episode went right by me, but here's some of what I remember. The episode opens with Candi saying the Lord's Prayer as the two thugs lead him to his execution. One of the thugs puts a pistol to Candi's head, and we hear a shot--but it's not from the thug's gun. The cavalry (i.e., Susan & Co.) has arrived and shot Candi's would-be murderer before he could pull the trigger. Inside, Ivan wonders why he heard a shot, since the thug's gun had a silencer. With Ivan momentarily distracted, Juanjo makes a break for it. He shoots one of the thugs guarding him and gets into a standoff with Ivan, who winds up dead (I'm not sure who shot him).

The Good Guys have won--for now. Everyone celebrates. Everyone, that is, except Roberto [hiss here], who complains to his therapist that Aurora values everyone more than she values him: her son, her friends, her family, her job, and, of course, Juanjo. Yada yada yada.

Meanwhile, thanks to the wonders of telenovela medicine, Juaquín makes a miraculous recovery, moving from death's door to being alert and active in his hospital bed. He tells Crisanto that he's looking forward to the day Crisanto gives Natalia back her vineyards, and even more to the day Crisanto ends his bitterness toward Juanjo. And, just a few minutes of telenovela time later, we see an apparently fully recovered Juaquín at home cooking chicharrones (even though the doctor has told him to avoid fat).

Over in the Casteñeda kitchen, Roberto is buttering up Meche by being the ideal son-in-law. He buys the groceries (including her favorite tomatoes) without being asked, praises her cooking repeatedly, does the dishes so she can rest, and says that he wishes Aurora were more like Meche, devoted to home and family. But his scheming doesn't stop with Meche. When Aurora leaves him in charge of the wine production for a short time (while she goes shopping with Serena?), he turns up the temperature, thereby ruining the wine. Crisanto accuses Aurora of ruining the wine, telling her that she shouldn't have left anyone else in charge, she should have stayed with the wine.

Roberto also works his scheming on Crisanto, suggesting to Cris that he's a naive patsy in the hands of the Monteils, and that Natalia plans to undermine him. This, of course, leads Crisanto to be very hostile and paranoid when Natalia meets with him in hopes of negotiating a better deal. All this is rather fuzzy in my mind. IIRC Crisanto finally says he'll negotiate under one condition: Juanjo is no longer a stockholder.

That's it for now.

It was good to see both families come together when Juaguin was fighting for his life. Thanks to Meche and Natalia for that. Of course It didn't end well but it does show that they're capable of putting pettiness aside when necessary.

I for one am happy to see Juanjo and Serena together despite the fact that under normal circumstances a relationship between these two is off limits. Fact is he's a good guy who's just a scapegoat for the bitter and wicked. It won't last of course. But Serena deserved a lil support. A lot of people would rather she stay in her place.

So we didnt see it happen but apparently Candido contacted Susan. Now Ivan is really dead. That was probably the shortest "return of a bad guy/enemy from the past" that i've seen. Its been 2-3 years since my last novela and i find this show to be too rushed. Although it could take weeks or months before people wise up to Roberto

Spanish Student

thanks so much for your summary Juanita!

Spanish Student, I think Juanjo was in on it too, as I think someone said he was the bait.

let's see if I remember some more,

some of the growers went to Cris to ask for a better price this year, but Cris wasn't going for it.

Cris makes Nat a better offer on her price but (with Roberto's edging, asking if he's weak, and about making Juanjo a shareholder rich) Cris adds the part about taking Juanjo's shares away from him, Paco and Joaquin weren't going for it but Nat says I'm the president, were taking the deal.

then the growers all meet over at Natalia's to see about holding out but Nat says she just can't throw in with them because of her current finances, while Roberto calls Anita and gets a heads up, but apparently turns the story around as Natalia having called the meeting to go AGAINST Cris which led to his blow-up where he insulted her and would not even let her speak (and I'm thinking her being a girl is probably a factor)

there is also the deal where Roberto wants to get Aurora more isolated, he is hanging on to his apartment but Aurora says it's too small, so he suggests a house, a realtor finds a nice place close by but Roberto tells him he wants a place far away that will make it hard to commute to the winery, they look at a place but Aurora shuts him down.

and there is the deal where Roberto convinces Merche that Serena is trying to get Aurora to hook up with Juanjo so Merche blows up on her.

Muchas gracias, Spanish Student and deb, for your valuable comments. Spanish Student, though you may feel that the resolution of the Ivan problem was rushed (and in a way, I suppose it was), I have noticed this on other Telemundo novelas of the past few years as well, and it's one of the things I really like about Telemundo. They often resolve problems very quickly. I used to watch Univision novelas, where a problem could drag on for weeks (or even months) before being resolved. I found the Telemundo approach refreshing.

deb, thanks so much for adding and clarifying so many important segments from last night's episode. I just remembered one more thing, relatively minor. Aurora wanted to lend Serena a dress, but she couldn't find the one she was looking for. She asked Paloma and Meche whether they had seen it, but they hadn't. Too bad she didn't ask Leo! It turned out that Leo had taken the dress and hidden it in his closet. After he overheard Aurora say she was looking for it, he removed it from its hiding place and put it in his backpack (I think). But what he was going to do with it then wasn't made clear. We also see him very uncomfortable with his girlfriend, Sofia. He tries to assure her that he's not avoiding her, but that's exactly what he's doing. Sofi wants to have sex or at least make out, and he's very uncomfortable and tries to convince her that they should just watch a movie. A lot of telenovelas seem to have a message to convey, and I suspect that one of the messages in this one will be about homosexuality and coming out.

Juanita i agree that, as far as the protagonists are concerned, it's best if life or death situations are resolved quickly. I just felt like I'd missed something. Problem is Roberto will do much damage before the tide turns against him.

I wonder how he'll act once he and Aurora learn of Juanjo and Serena's relationship. Will he call down. He's too obsessed.

Is it just a simple case of latent homosexuality with Leo? He's stealing women's clothes so I was thinking crossdresser. Either way Meche and Cris are about to lose son #2 and they can't blame anyone else for this.

Does anyone think that Leo might be transgender? No more sons in the family.
Has there ever been a transgender story line in a novela?

Sangre

Spanish Student, I agree about Roberto. I think that thread will be the problem that will NOT be resolved quickly (probably including all kinds of complications with Juanjo as well).

As for Leo's sexuality, I confess that I know relatively little about crossdressing. I guess I assumed that his attraction to female clothing, coupled with his dislike of his father's emphasis on being macho, and his avoidance of Sofi, all point toward his being homosexual, though I don't think he's shown (yet) that he's attracted to males.

dondi356, welcome to the forum. You raise an interesting question. I don't recall another novela having a transgender story line, but I'm not really familiar with lots of other novelas (and I also have a rotten memory). I think Telemundo tries to be current, but that may be too current for them. :-) I've been assuming they simply want to deal with homophobia, but I may be underestimating them.

Sangre

Yes, dondi356, perhaps trangender is a more accurate description of Leo. Juanita, i tried but couldnt recall any plots from tv or film involving latent homosexuality that included a facination with women's clothing and that's all we know right now. I also dont remember if he was curious or tolerant when the two guys kissed in the workplace. Guess we'll have to wait and see where the Telemundo sponsors/writers are going with this one. Either way the best part will be Meche and Crisanto's response.

Happy Holidays,
Spanish Student

Leo's story from friday, he is off to futbol practice with what's his name, the guy everyone ignores but Leo, when Sofi pops up, are you avoiding me, Leo stumbles around and says he'll stop by her place later, they can watch a movie...and when he does Sofi's mom is out, yoga class be gone a good 2 hours, Sofi wants to play, Leo hedges, when Sofi pushes he confesses, her pregnancy scare got his attention, he is not ready to start a family, hmmm, but wait Sofi's mom comes home, she'll go back to her room and watch a movie, but Sofi is up, I'll go to my room, you two can watch your movie here.
