This is my final recap for this superb telenovela that I almost
didn’t watch. I’m so glad I watched the first episode to give it a try…and every
episode thereafter was a joy to view. Every aspect of this TN was exquisitely
written and portrayed by actors who were outstanding in bringing it to life.
I want to thank Alfredo for starting us up with the discussion
pages which eventually turned into full recaps…started by Jarifa, my masterful
co-recapper. Thank you Jarifa for paving the way to the recaps!
Last, but definitely not least, I want to thank all the loyal
commentators and followers/lurkers in this patio who made this so much more
enjoyable and rewarding with your kind words, insightful comments and creative
perspectives. It was an amazing experience; and I especially loved how great
the story and patio turned out to be. Hope to see you all in the next patio!
Julieta is in her bedroom
when she gets a severe cramp and her water breaks. She slowly walks toward the
phone but the cramps get more severe. She slips down to the floor and looks at
the phone which is a few feet away but can’t reach it. As she calls out Robert’s
name and yells out in pain, Dave comes rushing in wondering what is happening
to her, so she tells him to go get his Grandma Blanca. He rushes off as Julieta
clamors in pain and breathes deeply. Robert arrives and hears Julieta so he
rushes to her. When she tells him her water broke, Robert slowly lifts her to
the bed as she screams in pain and tells Dave who is watching to go let his
grandparents know and to stay at his grandparent’s home. Dave leaves as Robert
tries to calm Julieta and tells her everything will be fine. Robert starts
panicking so he asks Julieta what he should do. As Julieta yells, she manages
to tell Robert to get her clothes which he quickly does. They continue to tell
each other to calm down.
[Mexican Version: As they
are about to go to bed, Blanca and Eugenio hear the doorbell ringing and wonder
who it could be at this hour.] When they both open the door, Dave tells them
that his father took his mother to the hospital, so Blanca tells Eugenio that
she needs to go and he should stay with Dave.
As Julieta and Robert
walk to their car which seems to be really far away, Julieta walks slowly and
breathes deeply as Robert repeats that he loves her. Robert helps Julieta into
the backseat of the car as Blanca approaches and tells him he should go with Julieta
in the backseat and she will drive. When they are all in, Blanca has trouble
taking off since she is unfamiliar with Robert’s car; so Robert gives her quick
guidance. When Blanca finally speeds off, Julieta screams, not only in pain,
but in fear.
At a concert, Xavi calls
out to Marisol who is listening to him in a media van. Xavi wants to tell her
in front of all his audience that there is nothing more that he wishes in this
world than to have her as his girlfriend again. Mari smiles as she sits and
sways in delight. She gets up and runs to Xavi as he comes running down the
stairs. Mari jumps and yells, “Yes! Yes! Yes! We did it! We did so well! You
succeeded! The show was awesome! Xavi, I want to congratulate you for making
all your dreams come true…and thank you for allowing me to remind you of that
and at the same time making me remember too because I too have succeeded at
your side. Only, next time, give me time to think about my answer, okay?” After
Xavi nods in agreement, they embrace and look at each other lovingly as he
caresses her face.
At the Oso apartment,
Gabriel talks to his stuffed oso children and tells them that their mother
doesn’t know when it’s feeding time…everything is work to her. Just then,
Eugenio calls Dani to let them know Julieta is on her way to have her baby.
When she tells Gabriel she wants to go to the hospital to be with Robert and
Julieta, Gabriel agrees, but wonders when they will start producing their own
little bears. Dani tells him that this is not the time to discuss that since
they need to leave; so Gabriel flaps his arms in frustration and tells her
there is no doubt she is the general…but he loves it…and reminds her he wants
5…well 4 or 5.
As Blanca drives to the
hospital, Robert is on the phone advising the hospital that he is with his wife
who is about to give birth. As Julieta gets a cramp she yells and squeezes
Robert’s shoulder so hard that he screams in pain too! Robert continues to
advise the hospital to tell Dr. Lisboa to have everything ready. As he talks
and Julieta gets yet another cramp, she grabs and pulls Robert’s hair and tells
him to call her mother. Robert starts to call Catalina as Blanca slams on the
brakes. When Robert and Julieta yell at her, she reminds them she has only been
driving for a few months and tells Robert to call his mother-in-law and remain
calm.
At Catalina’s house,
Catalina dances around announcing that Julieta’s baby is on the way. When Hugo
asks if the baby is already going to be born, Catalina tells him they have to
go to the hospital…and her grandchild will be a Scorpio…a leader and
protagonist.
Finally at the hospital,
Julieta asks ‘Juan Pablo’ not to leave her alone.
After he assures her he
won’t leave her for a minute, she calls out to her Mama-Suegra who tells her
she will pray for both of them…and that Julieta is a great mother. As the
nurses roll Julieta into the delivery room, Robert thanks his mother for being there.
After Blanca thanks him too and tells him she will wait there, Robert leaves to
go be with Julieta.
At the hospital chapel,
Blanca kneels as she prays, “My God, I am very grateful to you and I ask that
my grandson or granddaughter be born healthy…that my daughter-in-law be well. I
beg you, Lord. Juan Pablo and Julieta deserve to be happy.
In the delivery room, the
doctor reminds Julieta that she needs to remain calm. When Julieta sees Robert
enter, she smiles as he tells her he loves her with all his heart. After she
tells him she loves him too, the doctor tells them that the anesthesia has been
administered. Robert assures Julieta that they will be in this together as they
have always been.
In the waiting room, Imelda
and Eugenio are there as Catalina, Hugo and Diana arrive. When Catalina asks
about Julieta and the baby, Blanca assures every one that everything is fine.
Catalina is very nervous, but tells Hugo to notify Bruno and his father. When
Imelda complains that Catalina will only get them more nervous, Catalina asks
her not to start attacking her. Her daughter’s pregnancy has been a very
delicate one and the risk remains as she give birth. Diana points out that
Catalina’s comments are inappropriate, Catalina chides her for not supporting
her and stressing her out more. Blanca interrupts and tells Catalina that what
they need to do is pray that all will go well. [Mexican Version: Everyone
agrees; so Catalina asks to borrow Imelda’s rosary as she takes it from Imelda,
but Imelda won’t have anything to pray with so she takes it back from Catalina.
Just then Dani and Gabriel arrive asking if the baby has been born yet, so
Blanca tells them it hasn’t.]
In the delivery room, the
doctor advises Robert that the baby has the umbilical cord wrapped around its
neck, so they will have to be more cautious and Julieta has to remain very
calm. After Julieta nods, the doctor asks if they want a girl or a boy, but
Robert replies, “Whatever God wants. We just ask that the baby is born
healthy.” When the doctor tells them
they will now start, Robert wants to count with Julieta to keep her calm, but
Julieta shakes her head and tells him, “No, my love, not right now.” The doctor
proceeds with the delivery as Robert and Julieta both try to remain calm.
[Mexican Version: At the
Córsega’s, Linda is looking after Dave as she tells him that she must admit
that Julieta has taught him well and that she is a good mother. Just then, Mari
and Frida arrive and wonder what Dave is doing there, so Linda excitedly tells
them that they took Julieta to the hospital to have her baby. Mari asks if
everything is going well, and Linda thinks it is. Linda then asks about the
concert and hopes there will be more throughout the country. When Mari replies
that it is a possibility, Frida wonders if she could go on the tour, but Mari
tells her she has to go to school.] Linda notices that Marisol is pensive so
she gets closer to Mari and asks in a whisper why she has such a long face. As
she smiles, Mari shares that Xavi asked her to be his girlfriend in from of
everyone, but when Linda whees in excitement, Mari tells her she has to think
about it. Linda chides her for taking time to think…Xavi might get tired of
waiting.
In the delivery room,
Julieta waits impatiently, so Robert tells her everything is fine. All of a
sudden, Julieta hears her baby cry out. [Mexican Version: As they remember
their night of passionate lovemaking, Robert and Julieta hold hands.] When
Robert tells her they have a girl, Julieta quickly asks if the baby is well.
The doctor announces that the baby is perfectly well. The doctor the takes the
baby girl to her parents and lays her beside Julieta and presents them their
daughter.
Julieta says to her
daughter for the first time, “Hello, my love, hello.” She then cries full of
joy and Robert, “This is our daughter,” as Robert gently kisses his daughter. Also
in tears, Robert tells Julieta they have been waiting for her for a long time…they
have a precious daughter and a beautiful son. They continue to talk to their
daughter as they admire her and coddle her filling her with love and kisses.
In the waiting room,
Imelda comments that they are taking too long. As she wonders if everything is
going well, Robert comes running and announces they have a…granddaughter!
Everyone shrieks with joy; and Eugenio declares, “Another princess in the
house!” After Catalina asks if they are well, Robert quickly and excitedly
replies that they are perfectly well. They can go see them in a little
while…and she is precious…she’s the most beautiful baby he has seen in his life!!
They all ooh and aww as they group hug.
In Julieta’s hospital
room, everyone admires the baby as Robert arrives with a bunch of pink
balloons. After Imelda admires each part of the baby’s face, she comments that
the baby is exactly like her. Catalina thinks that maybe the eyelashes look
like Imelda, but the rest of the baby is identical to her. Eugenio then states
that though she is a girl, she’s his exact replica. (Don’t think so, Eugenio!)
As they continue to
admire the baby, Gabriel asks Julieta how she feels. Julieta responds,
“Immensely happy. I can’t stop smiling and crying. It’s the best thing I have
felt in my life.” Blanca then says, “Being a mother is the most marvelous gift.”
Dani then comments that it will be great to teach her baby in this era and give
her all of Julieta’s great ideas. When Imelda asks to hold the baby though she
is scared because the baby is so small, Julieta carefully hands the baby to
Imelda…everyone then asks to be next. Robert then tells Julieta that he has
Dave on a video call, so they show Dave the baby. Dave’s first comment is, “She
has so much hair!” Everyone laughs as Julieta tells Dave that his little sister
told her a secret…that she loves him very, very much. After Dave says he love
his sister too, he asks if they have decided on a name. Julieta replies that
they did discuss boy’s and girl’s names at length though she allows Robert to
announce that they decided on…BLANCA!! Blanca is elated and jumps with joy. Catalina,
however, reverts to her old self and wonders how much they value her name; the
baby’s name could be Blanca Catalina…but everyone just ignores her!
Days
Later—
At Julieta’s apartment,
the families join to celebrate the arrival of baby Blanca. After Eugenio
remarks that baby Blanca is prettier with every day that passes, Dave agrees,
but states that she cries ALL night long. Eugenio responds that is normal; and
that Dave was like that too…babies cry for several months. Catalina then takes
the baby from Eugenio (though he hesitates in handing her over) and states that
of course the baby inherited her beauty from a good source. When Imelda states
that the baby looks like her grandmother, Catalina and Imelda start jabbing at
each other, so Julieta tells her mother not to start…anyway, Julieta thinks the
baby looks like her father. Robert tells them to listen to Julieta…end of
discussion! Blanca won’t argue; she is happy that the baby has her name…Blanca!
When Gabriel comments that the name fits the baby perfectly, Catalina remarks
that Gabriel shouldn’t fall from her graces. Audifaz adds his own two cents
that the baby could have another name, so Dave gives his suggestion, ‘Simona la
Mona,” and Polita adds “Arquimisa,” but Aris thinks the baby should have a
normal name. After Linda suggests that the stop with the name suggestions, Dani
comments that they should stop arguing and just be happy that there is a new
baby. Everyone comments about how they happy they are and the well wishes they
have for the baby, until Eugenio gets up and tells Robert that there is
something he has thought about very much and is very important to him…he is
fine with Robert’s last name being “Cooper” since that is how he was
registered, but he wonders with what name will they baptize his granddaughter.
She is not a ‘Cooper,’ she is a ‘Corsega.’ Robert responds that he understands
Eugenio arguments and knows that the baby is a ‘Córsega,’ but their married
name is ‘Cooper Aguilar.’ Eugenio then argues that Robert will deprive them of
the joy that the baby will carry the name ‘Córsega!” When Julieta suggests that
they could consider having a way to have the baby take the ‘Córsega’ name also,
Linda wonders if the baby will have three last names. Robert asks they not get
ahead of themselves. When Julieta suggests that the baby’s name could be Blanca
Aguilar Cooper, they get into a discussion of the legal possibility and how the
order of the last names can be changed….which leads into a discussion of
changing first names. Eugenio then gets upset and tells them to stop kidding
around with this. When he points out that they registered Dave with ‘Cooper
Aguilar,’ Catalina interjects that these are Robert’s and Julieta’s children
and they can register them however they want.
Eugenio is fired up and tells Robert that if he doesn’t want the baby to
carry the Córsega name, they can do whatever they wants. After Blanca tells
Eugenio to calm down, he insists that he is calm, but wants it made clear that
the baby has the Córsega blood…and they shouldn’t forget that. After Eugenio
states he is going to the bakery so as not to lose his streak of good sales,
Robert asks him not to leave upset. Eugenio retorts that he doesn’t condone
being meddlesome, but, in this case, he has every right to do so. After Eugenio
leaves, Imelda wonders who he got his temper from…certainly not from her.
Later and once alone,
Julieta tells Robert that he needs to understand his father. Robert has tried
to be understanding since the very beginning; they have done everything that
their family wanted. Julieta agrees, but reminds Robert that they have acceded
many things because they chose to do so. The perfect example is that their
daughter is named Blanca…like the mother-in-law she didn’t want to have. Robert
understands and adds that living with his family is very complicated, but
Julieta adds that living by themselves was also complicated…the important thing
is finding a middle ground. When Robert asks if Julieta truly agrees that their
daughter’s name is Blanca, Julieta assures him that she is…they chose the name
together. When she asks him why they call each other ‘Oppa,’ he recalls that it
is because, above anything else, they are a team, friends, and they understand
each other. After they both comment how they like the term, Julieta remarks how
much more handsome he looks as a father…and she doesn’t want him to be sad.
Robert feels badly about what happened; and Julieta reminds him that they knew
the issue would come up, but it’s impossible to keep everyone happy. When he
asks what she thinks about the last name, she responds that she fell in love
with Robert Cooper and that is how they married. Robert just hopes that his
father can understand it someday.
At the bakery, Blanca
explains to Eugenio that she has learned that it is not a matter of others
changing; it is a matter of changing oneself…not being stubborn or imposing one’s
will. When Eugenio comments that Robert is pushing them aside, Blanca tells him
to think about how he would feel if he had to change his name and last name.
Eugenio thinks that is different, but Blanca argues he is being stubborn and that
is what imposing his will means. Blanca then tells Eugenio that he needs to
think of the many times they had kneaded dough while they prayed that their son
return. Juan Pablo is now with them; life led him to live in their apartment.
When Blanca urges him to let them decide, Eugenio mocks that she is trying to
win the “Most Understanding” Award. Blanca adds that they can’t be selfish or
ungrateful. After Eugenio makes a face, Blanca shares that what she liked most
about Imelda giving her the family ring is that it gives her the authority to
make sure her family follows a good path…so he should just forget about his
notion regarding the last name; he should just enjoy his second granddaughter. After
Blanca criticizes how Eugenio is forming the bread, she looks at him and kisses
him which brings on Eugenio’s smile.
At her apartment, Julieta
has a video call with her father as she tells him he needs to see his granddaughter
in person…he needs to see what nice eyes she has. After she asks Linda to bring
the baby close, she reminds her father that Linda is Robert’s sister. When
Linda calls him father-in-law, she backtracks because she isn’t sure he found
out…but Hugo Sr. assures her that he did find out…in fact someone is there who
came to visit. Just then, Bruno appears and says hello to the three girls.
Linda is surprised, but gets nervous and walks away for a moment while Julieta
asks Bruno is he liked the pictures she sent him. After Bruno comments that he
has the most beautiful niece, he asks Linda how she is; so she nervously
responds that she is well and working on several projects. She tells him to
take care of himself and walks away again as Julieta continues to talk to her
father who tells her he does plan on coming to see the baby. After Julieta says
her good-bye, Bruno remarks that he loves them...all three of them! After she
hangs up, Julieta apologizes to Linda; she didn’t know her father would be with
Bruno. Linda tells her not to worry about it; she is over it and she has other
goals in her life. When she adds that Julieta was right about her and Bruno
being a bad idea, Julieta remains pensive.
At Catalina’s house,
Catalina arrives to find boxes of cookies. When she complains that he is
getting on her nerves and that this cannot continue, she gives him a choice:
his cookies or his mother. Hugo points out that Catalina should be happy that
one of his ideas was a success…he is a success! After Catalina continues to
complain that he has converted their house into a cookie factory, Hugo agrees
that she has a point; so he and Diana have come up with a solution…they are
going to rent an apartment and will be moving next week. Catalina’s jaw drops!
At Julieta’s, Linda
admits that she misses Bruno very much, but she needs to continue with her
plans. She wants to focus on the fundamental well-being of people, including
changing their appearance, providing psychological support, and physical
fitness. Julieta thinks those are good goals and she is sure thing will go well
for Linda if she focuses on them. Linda thanks Julieta, but admits that doesn’t
change the fact that she feels so bad all the time. She closes her eyes and she
sees him; sometimes she thinks Bruno is going to return at any moment. When she
cries that she doesn’t know why she can’t stop thinking about him, Julieta
shares that something very similar happened to her. When she broke up with the
guy (from the beach), she was sure it was the best thing for both of them, but
she couldn’t keep from thinking that he would come back for her. When he did
come back, Julieta didn’t want to pursue the relationship because she had other
goals; and at that time, she wanted to focus on her career and he wanted to
have a family and children. When Linda asks if she would have done something
differently, Julieta quickly tells her she wouldn’t. Everything one does is
what makes one the person he/she is. Julieta adds that though this may not seem
to have a solution, the experience will allow Linda to grow…she is a young
woman who has her whole life ahead of her; and she can accomplish great things.
When Linda wonders what she should do with all her sadness, Julieta tells her
to cry…she should cry whenever she has a need to cry; she shouldn’t keep in any
emotions. Linda gets frustrated and tells Julieta it bothers her that she has
no more motives to fight with her. When Julieta wonders if Linda wants to keep
fighting, Linda admits she doesn’t, but feels it’s unreal for them to get along…it’s
quite boring. Julieta agrees, but adds that things change; she is now a mother
to two children…and though she hates to admit it, she even loves her
sisters-in-law. Linda laughs, but as Julieta walks away, Linda’s tears flow.
[Mexican Version: At
Catalina’s house, Hugo shows his mother all the cookies in the box, but
Catalina wonders if he is capable of leaving his mother totally alone in that
house. When Hugo reminds her that she is complaining, with every reason to do
so, that they are invading her space, he points out that moving would be the
best thing for everyone. Hugo needs to do this and he promises that he will
save all the money needed to repay Robert and Julieta. As Catalina cries, Hugo
embraces her and reassures her that all will be well.]
At Julieta’s, Julieta is
in bed with baby Blanca when Robert and Dave return from the fair. Dave shows
Julieta a prize he won for Blanquita and thinks she should have the best of
everything. After Julieta comments that he is a good brother, Dave adds that he
wants the baby to be proud of him. After Dave tells her how hard he tried
before he won the prize, Julieta congratulates him. As Robert is about to go
make something to eat, Julieta gets a text message from Hugo saying that he
needs to see her.
At a studio, Xavi wonders
if Mari has thought about being his girlfriend again. When she agrees to it,
Xavi is pleasantly surprised, but Mari wants it to be clear that she wants to
do several things—be a mother, a working woman, and then be someone’s
girlfriend…and she isn’t sure he would accept that. Xavi quickly accepts; at
work, she will always be his manager, then she will be his girlfriend…and it
will always be clear to him that she is Frida’s mother. After they tell each
other, “I love you,” they seal it with a kiss.
[At the Oso apartment,
Gabriel yells out for Dani as he struggles with the kitchen faucet that is ha a
bad leak. When she runs in asking what he did and complaining that he can take
are of something so simple, he quickly points out that he studied something
total y different…not plumbing. After she tells them she won’t be fixing the
problem this time, she tell him to cover the leak with his finger, but he only
makes the water squirt all over.] As Dani rushes over and manages to shut off
the water (after they are all wet), she complains that this is over the top…they
should have made a reparations agreement before getting married. After he
sneezes and complains of being cold, he goes to Dani for a hug so he can get
“warmed up!”
Robert goes to the bakery
to talk to Eugenio about going on the excursion Eugenio won with Robert. When
Eugenio declines the invitation, Robert knows he is still hurt about the last
name, but Eugenio uses the excuse that he has a lot to do at the bakery. After
Robert offers to help Eugenio with his orders at the bakery and asks that
Eugenio join him in an outing, Eugenio hesitates.
At the Córsega’s, Blanca
continues writing in her notepad as Linda watches. When Blanca points out that
she has accomplished many things on her list(s), Linda assures her that Blanca
is already perfect in Linda’s eyes. Blanca stops to ask how Linda’s heart is
doing; so Linda replies that some days it’s good, but other days are not so
good. When Linda wonders how it can be that a person can miss someone else
after so many months, Blanca tells her that it’s possible to miss someone with
the same intensity even after years. Blanca gets up to give Linda a consoling
hug.
At Julieta’s, Robert
invites Dave to go with him and Eugenio. When Robert then brings up the baptism
for Blanquita, Julieta thinks they should wait a few months, but Robert wants
to plan things with time so everything will be perfect. Julieta insists that
they take things slowly so they can think things through, so Robert shares that
he has been thinking quite a bit and thinks that maybe they can do things as
his family wishes; he wants to compensate them with something since they got so
upset about the last name. After Robert goes to help Dave with his homework and
prepare for his outing with his father, Julieta reminds him to finish the
discussion about the last name with his father. In the meantime, she will see
what Hugo wants to talk about. Just then, Blanca arrives with some rice pudding
and comments that she heard about Robert’s outing with his father. After she
coddles the baby and Dave Blanca tells them she needs to go to her class; she
has a final exam.
At their picnic in the botanical
garden, Robert runs after Dave who is running around while Eugenio watches and
smiles. As Robert picks up Dave and hugs him, Eugenio recalls meeting Robert at
the same place right after he found out Robert was Juan Pablo. When Robert
notices Eugenio somber mood, he asks what is wrong with him, so Eugenio stands
up and slowly walks toward him. When he is close, Robert asks if he thinks he
would do something that would make him feel bad. When Eugenio replies that he
never said that, Robert wonders why he is so upset about the last name. Robert
tells Eugenio that he loves him and what he wants most is for Eugenio to be
alright, but Eugenio needs to understand him. Eugenio understands that it is
complicated and knows he must respect his decision even though he doesn’t like
it. Robert doesn’t think a last signifies the amount of love a person feels for
another…Robert feels much love for his father and his father also has his
grandchildren’s love…they are of his blood. Eugenio finally agrees and states
that their ties will never be broken. As they embrace, Dave asks if they don’t
care that he doesn’t have his blood, so Robert kneels and looks at Dave telling
him that it clearly doesn’t matter because they have a tie that is stronger
than anything…LOVE! The three Córsegas stand together as Robert and Eugenio
recall being told that they are father and son…and other special moments.
Robert then asks Eugenio is he remembers this place (where they had their first
embrace) and comments how time has passed so quickly. Eugenio then thinks about
all the years that have passed, Robert is now a father and before, Eugenio
could carry Juan Pablo on his shoulders…now he has to have Robert’s support to
walk. Robert emphasizes that the important thing is that they are there to
support each other. After Dave mentions that he has three grandfathers, they go
to their picnic and toast to the three generations.
At Julieta’s, Diana and
Hugo have arrived with gifts for Blanquita and Dave. Julieta is very pleased
that Hugo is doing so well with his cookie business; she always knew he was
capable. Hugo then comments that Julieta has always helped him and that is why
they are there. Diana then announces that they will be leaving Catalina’s house
and move to an apartment…leaving Catalina by herself. Julieta assures them she
will talk to her mother because she knows that being alone is her mother’s
worst fear. After Hugo remarks that it’s time he left the nest, he tells
Julieta there is one more thing he has to do and hands Julieta an envelope…it’s
for her and Robert…all the money they lent him when he wanted to start up the
earthworm business; the money she had saved for her own house. Julieta can’t
believe it. When she asks where he got all that money, Hugo shares that he
found an associate for his business—their father. Julieta is glad that they can
finally buy their own home.
At Polita’s, Audi shrieks
as he runs in. Polita is aghast and wonders what is wrong, so Audi gives Aris
his phone so he can read the message he received: It is a pleasure to inform you that we have read your manuscript and we
are interested in proceeding with its publication! They all hug as they
shout with joy…
In Julieta’s bedroom, Julieta
tells Dave that she wants them to take the surprise to his father together. Dave
wants to know when they will be leaving, but Julieta tells him they will decide
in a little while. When Robert calls out that dinner is ready, Julieta and Dave
take the gift to the dining area. After Julieta admires Robert’s apron, she
tells Robert that they have a surprise for him and hands him a clue…a small
door. Robert opens the gift and takes out a small model home. After Robert
looks at Julieta questioningly, she explains that Hugo paid them all the money
he owed them, including interest…and she spent all afternoon looking at houses
that they could buy; she even set some appointments to go look at some homes. Robert
doesn’t look pleased, so Julieta asks what’s wrong or if he doesn’t like the
idea. She continues that they had saved that money to buy their home. Now they
are four and their children will grow. When Julieta reminds Robert that this
has always been their dream, Robert acknowledges it, but doesn’t think it’s the
right to time to leave their apartment; he doesn’t want to leave his family. Julieta
begins to get upset and gives Robert a piercing look. She remarks that they are
also a family. She reminds him that they came to this apartment with the clear
intention of having their own home. Robert again acknowledges that Julieta is
right, but she needs to consider that, when they arrived at the building, he never
thought he would find his family. Julieta starts to show her frustration so she
tells Dave to go to his room. Dave agrees to go, but asks that they not fight. After
Dave leaves, Julieta tells Robert that she understands that he found his family
there, but they have lived there for quite some time; and she thinks they have spent
enough time close to the family. When she emphasizes that they have two children,
Robert hopes that this will not be a topic of discussion/argument. Julieta continues
that Robert knows she loves his family; she even gets along with everyone, even
Linda. When she reiterates that those were their plans, Robert asks that she
not get ahead. He assures her that his family will not interfere with their
plans; this is a decision that he will make, but Julieta thinks that this is a decision
that they both should make because his family will surely oppose that they
leave. Robert really likes the idea of having their own home, but they should
take their time. Julieta argues that she is not asking to leave tomorrow, but
they can look at the different options…a place that will be their home. The
obstacle they had before was that they didn’t have the money…now they have the
money. Robert knows she has a point, but insists that this is not the time. Julieta
continues to make her case—Blanca will need her own room; and Dave can have a
yard to play in. Robert hen counters that their children are barely growing;
Blanca was just born. He feels that it is very important that they be close to
his family. Frustrated, Julieta gives up and thinks Robert has his mind made up
already—he isn’t leaving. As she goes to her bedroom, Robert follows her and
asks that they not argue. When he suggests that they talk about it, Julieta
responds that there isn’t much to talk about; she won’t be able to change his
mind so she has to accede. Julieta walks away, but returns when Robert tells
her not to get upset. She states that some months ago she felt horrible for
wanting to go to the United States and separate him from his family. It’s only
right that they live independently…it isn’t she who is being selfish now. After
Julieta goes into the bedroom and closes the door, Robert is left with much to
think about…
