wow, thanks so much for digging out the facts on this first show (posted on the previous page), it really helps.

not sure but I think Juan's chauffeur is Joel, Sofia's chauffeur (actually he is her bodyguard) is Germán, and the evil oral secretary is Paula Duarte.

"LADO":

Deb: I went ROFLOL on your description of "The EVIL oral Secretary".

Lado - Capítulo 2

Here are some events from the first part of the episode. I hope people will take it from here.

Max tells Jennifer that their marriage is over and he wants a divorce. He hands her divorce papers. She says this is not his decision to make.

Sofia is horrified to see that Irene knows Joel. "Are the two of you in this together?" she asks. Joel finally tells her he's an Interpol agent working undercover and that she, Sofia, has jeopardized months of hard work. Moreover, she has caused the death of the security guard who discovered Joel and Sofia together. "He had to be killed," Joel tells her. Sofia asks Joel how he could know about all this corruption for months and do nothing. He replies, "All this time you suspected nothing about your husband? Or did you just look the other way?"

Sofia asks Joel what will happen to the kidnapped girls. He tells her matter-of-factly that some will go to the United States, others to Europe or Asia. Some will eventually be freed. Others...not. Sofia is furious and says she'll go to the President. Joel tells her that will do no good. It will simply alert the network, and it will relocate.

Sofia continues to be very disturbed about the kidnapped girls, and she talks about how she feels as a mother. I think she then goes home and makes a call, asking to speak to a newspaper editor.

I'm not wholly clear about what happens next. A bad guy discovers the body of the murdered security guard. Two cars approach the Rancho--I think they're filled with reporters, but I'm not sure. The bad guys at the Rancho start to shoot. Joel has driven Juan Estevez to the scene, but when the shooting starts, Joel pulls out a gun and orders Estevez out of the car (thus apparently blowing his cover). He leaves the car, sees Irene headed toward the Rancho, pushes her to the ground for safety, and starts shooting at the bad guys, killing at least two.

I'm really pressed for time, and so I'll have to stop. I hope others will provide the rest of the recap and correct whatever wrong statements I've made.

Lado

thanks so much Juanita!

Max (who is Khotan from "Dame Chocolate")... are his kids with Eliza older than Charlie with Jennifer, Jennifer goes to her brother Steve, who is the company lawyer, to stop the divorce but he doesn't want to get involved, hmm apparently their dad financed Max's company and made everything possible, and Max seemed to have waited till he had died before this move of bringing Eliza to the states.

Eliza's son left his passport at the governor's place at the party showing it to his friend, the govs son, so Eliza stops by to get it and unknowingly convinces Sofia to rat out the kidnappers, and Eliza figures this out later after watching the news.

Sofia has anonymously called the editor of the paper who sent two truckloads of reporters to the ranch, who opened fire on them, Joel sees something is up and pulls over, dumps Juan, and rushes to protect Irene.

later Juan mentions that Joel looked as surprised as he was and thought he just got scared and ran off.

The gov sends the cops and the children are rescued, the gov later tells Sofia two of the guys responsible were caught.

Juan waits for the gov while chatting with Paula, they point the finger at Sofia while saying she isn't smart enough to do it, Paula brings up the reporter Irene, the gov arrives, not impressed with Juan sitting in his chair, states that it was not Sofia, who convinced him she found out by seeing her ranch on the news.

Joel has bought a plane ticket for Irene, he wants her out of town and back in the U.S., was that a sonogram picture of an unborn baby she was fawning over earlier.

Enemigo

Alejandro lives to find his sister and avenge his parents death, he has their picture on his locker door.

Alejandro arrests Roxana for money laundering while Federico escapes through a tunnel, Alejandro is not liking this new tunnel fad, he keeps her overnight chained to a pole looking for answers, she knows nothing, she did mention at age 5 she was sold into prostitution and that Federico saved her from that world and is going to marry her (he does state that he loves her) but Alejandro isn't buying it.

Roxana is then turned over to the D.A., a judge sentences her to 60 ?? days, while her lawyer complains she just got the case 2 hours ago and isn't prepared.

so Roxana goes to this horrible prison which is half men and half women, and it seems the prisoners run the place under the supervision of the warden, Guillotina runs the mens side and Roxana upon hearing his voice gets flashbacks of when she was kidnapped.

the lady that runs the women's side choses Roxana to be her personal assistant, Ochún the boxer slams her a couple of punches to the gut to seal the deal, of course all of the inmates are drooling over her.

other drama, Guillotina's girlfriend Dulcita while putting on a show for all was lured to the cellar and brutally raped, the prison psychiatrist digs out the guard that did it, I think the warden is sending him to another prison where out of his jurisdiction he doesn't care what happens to him, hmm, I thought they were going to give him to Guillotina.

Olivia, who runs the office, brings Alejandro a bottle of tequila, wants to reward him and starts undressing, Alejandro isn't interested in being told what to do so she leaves, wait, he grabs her and takes control, and onto the bed they go.

Eliot Ness, er, Alejandro and the untouchables pick up on an incoming shipment, 5 or 7 tons of weapons and are at customs to intercept, he takes the new guy, Daniel, with him.

"ENEMIGO":

Deb: I see that Roxana noticed Guillotina & the flashbacks of him decapitating her parents.

I believe the Prison Warden all but handed the guard to Guillotina on a silver platter & it wasn't surprising that the guard violately raped Dulcita.

When they did the autopsy, I'm surprised the medical examiner yanked off the sheet like that, revealing her naked body, etc.,

HALIMACANDY: The corrupt United States Senator from FL is upping the ante with the Drug Cartel business.

"LADO":

HALIMACANDY: Daniela Bascope is in this TN, she was previously in "LA Dona".

Juanita: Jennifer is Deborah Sanders 2.0 & you can tell by her Buji-ism.

Lado

@Halimacandy: the guy the Interpol agent said was killed was NOT some innocent civilian. He was an armed security guard for the human trafficking network. His job was to prevent anyone from poking around on the Rancho or trying to rescue the kidnapped girls.

@Steve: Thanks for the info about the actress who plays Jennifer. I knew she looked very familiar, but I couldn't figure out why.

Lado

Thanks very much, deb, for all your excellent additions and clarifications. And yes, I too wondered whether what Irene was looking at was a sonogram. Probably it was, especially in view of the conversation she had with Joel where she talked about "my son and I." He asks her (with what looked to me like eager anticipation) whether she was pregnant. She denies it, but....

"LADO":

Juanita: Irene has some splaining to do.

"ENEMIGO":

Juanita: What really disturbed me was that arrogant Alejandro didn't even let Roxana go to the restroom & we saw that scene, it was odd & unnecessary.

Lado

wow, Dimas from Sangre is Pastrana the hitman in this one.

"LADO":

Deb: Not shocked Irene the Journalist got whacked on the orders of Dumb Blonde Paula.

Bizzaro Gaviota 2.0 did managed to pick-up several documents & the DVD before leaving.

Lado

Well, since no one has offered a recap, I'll get one started.
=========

Julian finds Sofia at the safe. What are you doing there, he asks. She manages to give him a plausible answer, and her snotty son leaves. The more I see of him, the more I think that the image of a woman and "son" fleeing in episode 1 is Sofia and her daughter Alondra disguised as a boy (or perhaps not really disguised but with short hair and pants rather than a skirt). Julian is insufferable and very loyal to his father.

Sofia has found financial papers linked to the human trafficking network, and she calls Irene to say she has info she has to show her right away.

Meanwhile, Max and Jennifer are talking about their marriage. He wants a divorce, but she does not. She asks whether he's in love with another woman. His cell phone rings, he doesn't answer it but leaves to call Eliza back. He says he loves her "more than ever" and will meet her flight the next day. Eliza's mother remains skeptical about Max and suggests perhaps he has another woman. "You watch too many telenovelas," says Eliza. [No, Eliza, screams Viewerville, you should watch more of them!]

Sofia persuades Germán, her driver, to help her get out of the house. He says that her husband has ordered that she not leave. "He's not what you think he is," says Sofia. "You have to trust me." She wins, and Germán smuggles her out in the trunk of the car, telling the guards at the gate that he has to get aspirins for la Señora, who has a bad headache.

Patrick is angry with Joel for ruining all the work they've been doing by dropping his cover and going to protect Irene. It turns out that Irene is his sister, and presumably not the one whose child she is carrying [but these days on Telemundo one never knows]. Patrick wants to send Joel back to New York, but finally he agrees to let Joel continue to work. But if there's one more screwup....

Paula feels that Irene is a threat and must be dealt with. She orders her favorite assassin to handle things and, of course, say nothing to anyone.

Juan Estevez is at Don Chente's, and Don Chente's son is convinced that Juan is a traitor. He gives Juan a good thrashing, after which Juan calls Ernesto and says they're going to kill me unless you come here and talk to Don Chente. Ernesto comes. He tells Don Chente that Sofia had nothing to do with the press raid on the Rancho. Don Chente says Juan says Sofia is involved. Ernesto gets Juan to admit that he has no proof. Don Chente lets the two of them leave, warning that if he finds out differently....

Sofia comes to see Irene with the documents from the safe. Irene feels these documents are very important. She scans them and tells Sofia to put the originals back in the safe. She also tells Sofia that she, Irene, is leaving for the United States today. Joel is afraid things are too dangerous for her to remain in Mexico. Normally, she wouldn't agree to go, but now she has to think of her son. She tells Sofia she's 4 months pregnant, and I think she shows her the sonogram. She then falls to the floor. Sofia at first thinks she has fainted, but then she sees that Irene has been shot by a bullet that came through the window. Terrified, Sofia gathers up the papers from the floor and a DVD that was in the computer, and she leaves. She doesn't realize that there's one bloody page lying under Irene's corpse.

OK, folks, I have to stop now. I hope some of you will finish/correct/add to the above.

Lado

good night Irene,
(from a song written by Leadbelly back in the 30's)

Sofia, for her own protection has been locked in the mansion, by order of the gov, but German seems to bend to her will.

Eliza will be taking a bus and arrive in LA in a day or so, Max will meet her.

the papers Sofia have appear to be bank statements, Irene points out that these show deposits for all of their transactions and could bring down the whole network, she makes copies (on her laptop ?? and on a backup cd.

after the hit, Sofia takes a cab to see Eliza, gives her the cd but won't say more because it might endanger her, she will see Eliza in LA in a couple of days and get it back.

Pastrana checks his hit, yep dead, and rounds up anything that might be of interest, Irene's purse, laptop, hmm, what's this, a bloody bank statement under the body, gives all to Paula.

Joel finally meets with Sofia, he's crushed, he fauiled to protect his sister (there are similar storylines with Enemigo) and tells of losing their parents, but why did you go to see her?

Sofia tells of the evidence but won't give till he gets her, and kids, out of the country and under protection.

Sofia gets the papers back in the safe.

Paula shows the gov Irene's stuff.

and it seems Max married Eliza 10 years ago, but had a drunken fling with Jennifer 5 years ago, she got pregnant, and under threat of her father pulling the plug on his company, married her, the father also had 2 wives ?? and Steve is Jennifer's half brother, who wishes Max had come clean with him long time ago, they are buds, and urges him to do so with Jennifer.

(btw, el cohete has posted detailed recaps of the first 2 episodes)

Lado

At the beginning of episode 1, Sofia was with her daughter...her long dark ponytail barely noticeable. So for whatever reason, Julian, who is more loyal to his dad, stayed behind.

Enemigo:

After 3 episodes, we have so many people so connected in each other's lives, it's hard to keep track. It appears that Roxana recognizes her brother Alejandro, but is not going to tell him. He, on the other hand, doesn't recognize her at all. I don't think she knows that her fiancé Federico, whom she thinks is just a bank president, is really a money launderer. She originally was sentenced to 60 days while the police are building their case, now it's reduced to a month, but that's still way too much, she might not survive another week. She has a couple of allies, Clarissa, a sort of mother figure, who gives her tips, and other young prisoner whose name I didn't get, who tried to be extra friendly to the prison librarian.

As for enemies, the female Mera Mera named Soraya is sort of an enemy, although she's currently protecting Roxana. However, Roxana has to wait on Soraya hand and foot, and also Soraya has sort of saved her twice, and says Rox owes Soraya for that. And Pumba (who had her ear bitten off in a fight with Mamba) hates Roxana for sure.

The cops don't realize that the prosecutor is giving all the tips to the cartel guys. Alejandro, after pulling out the tooth of a guy from a successful police raid of an arms shipment, got the info that the prosecutor is dirty, but Alejandro's boss, who goes by the book, doesn't think there's any proof yet.

The Warden, Borjes, is not in league with the bad guys, but he does deal with them. He agrees with Guillotina (whose prison name is Madre) that if Borjes finds out who killed Madre's girlfriend Dulcita, there will be peace in the prison. Borjes finds out it's the chief of security of the prison, who he has arrested. He sends him off to be transferred, letting Madre know, and Madre sends his guys to intercept the transfer. They do, and the chief of security is burned alive as retribution.

This angers the Professor, the big head of the cartel (I think), who wanted a low profile. He also wants Roxana protected, since she's Federico's girlfriend, but the prosecutor says this will be difficult. The Professor's son Luis is a hothead who's sure to cause trouble.

And who is that hacker working for? I think he's working for the cartel guys, but I can't be sure.

For the actress who plays Roxana, this is a big change from her last role as Mónica on Señor de los Cielos, where she was very confident, outgoing, tough. Her she's quiet and scared (so far). But this might change.

The actor who plays Alejandro last played Chacorta, brother of El Señor de los Cielos. In that show, he was a druglord, here he's a super cop. But his methods are a bit over the line, which is not making he boss happy. Olivia, another cop who's a computer expert, knows that Alejandro has been crossing the line, but won't rat on him because she has a thing for him. He's not returning her passion (although they did do the deed once), but she's still hoping.

I only hope that this show actually ends, instead of turning into a multi parter. However, since it's a "super series", that probably means it will have part 2...and part 3...and........

"ENEMIGO":

Hombre: Yep. Expect this TN to last until at least 2020.

"LADO":

Juanita: Eliza is STUPID. Her mommy is right along with Viewerville: dumb girl has no idea what's in store for her when she moves to the United States.

I also see Jennifer AKA Deborah Sanders 2.0 being super EVIL here.

Enemigo

ah Hombre, nice to see you are watching this one, yep, they are calling this a series so I'm guessing more than one season, depending on ratings.

I'm watching Lado as well, which is pretty good, but it's confusing me because of the similarity, the narco boss and son are pretty much interchangeable.

I didn't think Roxana recognized her brother, because I thought she should have because of his name, but she did have tears in her eyes when she first saw him.

are you getting that Guillotina may have been her kidnapper?

I think it was the Deputy D.A. that pitched getting the Hacker his new stuff, and to let them see what he can do, rather than taking their 400 guns and attacking the feds when all they really need to do is kill Alejandro.

interesting that the cartel boss gets on Guillotina for not keeping a low profile and then tells him to kill Patojo, Alejandro's informer, who is being held there, across the hall from Puma.

Alejandro's boss is the cop that showed up when his parents were killed, right?

yep, I too thought Roxana would be much tougher, given her history.

"ENEMIGO":

Deb: Alejandro's boss is the cop who showed up when his parents were decapitated.

Guillotina is the one, who kidnapped Roxanna, who is likely to get tougher down the road.

Enemigo:

Thanks Deb and Steve for clearing some things up. BTW, Alejandro's boss is Comandante David Gómez. Luis father's name is Don Nemisio Rendón. And I don't think we know who the Professor is yet, although I could be wrong. I also misspelled Puma and Clarisa, but after looking at the "elenco" on Telemundo, now I have it straight. Also, the young police officer Daniel is supposed to be an important part of the cast, but he hasn't done much yet.

"ENEMIGO":

Hombre: Raul Mendez, who's portraying Alejandro in this TN, also portrayed former Colombian President Cesar Gaviria in "Narcos".

Lado

Thanks so much, Juanita and Deb, for your terrific recaps. There isn't much more to add. I did notice that, when Irene was explaining to Sofía what the documents she'd brought meant, she mentioned that Ernesto and Juan had created a shell company in which to deposit the ill-gotten gains from trafficking of little girls. Somehow Irene was going to get these published as evidence to take down Ernesto. But, of course, things never work out so neatly early on in telenovelas. Irene is killed before she can publish. Sofía put back the documents, except for the missing bloody page.

And now the only evidence is on the disc Sofía gave to Eliza, probably making them both targets of Chente and his evil son. I think something was said about Texas. Although Ernesto came to some dark, spooky warehouse in Mexico to meet with Chente, I think these baddies might normally be headquartered in the US. Not sure where I got that idea and it could be mistaken

Juanita, 100% agree that Julián, the snotty son of Ernesto and Sofía, will likely side with his father and hate his mother for her "betrayal".

I wonder if they're going in a similar direction as La Reina del Sur in that, after the time jump, Ernesto becomes a candidate for President like the character Epifanio Vargas did.

It was interesting to discover that Max married Eliza first, making hers the legal marriage. This being a telenovela and things needing to be dragged out, Max doesn't just tell Jennifer she's the one who's been living in sin and there's no need for a divorce at all. But he did correctly tell his brother-in-law that Jennifer is a vengeful person. He fears not being able to see his child with Jennifer ever again.

So far I'm enjoying the novela. I'll put up a recap for tomorrow's show (Monday) just to dust the cobwebs off my recapping. I'm just not sure if I can commit to doing so regularly. I work four days a week, and Monday is my day off.

Enemigo

Still haven't been able to watch the recorded episodes of this one. Nice to see you back here commenting Hombre de Misterio! Or maybe you've been commenting for months and I've been the one taking a hiatus.

I will try to watch the first few to see if an interest develops. I don't think I have the stamina to watch two.

One of the reasons I spend less time with telenovelas is my spending a lot of time watching the Golden State Warriors, my Bay Area team that's become amazing the last 3 or 4 years.

General:

Hi, Novelera! I understand the Golden State Warriors thing:)
I haven't been commenting much for years because first, I've been watching Brazilian novelas on Globo as part of learning Portuguese, and second, now that I've started watching Telemundo again, I watch the shows the next night, because then they're on demand which is HD. So I'm always a day late. But I can comment on the weekends.

General:

Anyone have an idea why Telemundo is skipping opening credits nowadays?

Ah, Portuguese! I took a year of Portuguese in the 80's, motivated by a relationship with a Brazilian man. An interesting fact is that my teacher at a local community college was from the Azores. There is apparently a good-sized community of people from the Azores in the Bay Area, as opposed to people from mainland Portugal. There was, at least to me, a big difference in pronunciation between Portuguese from Portugal and the Azores and the Brazilian variety. A bank manager at our company's bank now greets me with a bom día when I show up there to make a deposit. She and her husband are both from the Azores.

When I went to Brazil I could get by, but the, to me, big difference in the way words were pronounced in Brazil made me have to ask people to repeat things again to get the gist.

My Brazilian friends at that time told me there was a habit, especially in the big cities, of making fun of immigrants from Portugal. Sort of like Polish jokes used to circulate here in the US. One guy could do a dead-on, if exaggerated, imitation of spoken Portuguese from Portugal, with the point being that the guy from the mainland was dumb as a box of rocks!

Sadly, Spanish has pretty much wiped out my comprehension of spoken Portuguese. I did watch La Esclava Isaura a few years ago, but it was a Brazilian novela dubbed into Spanish. I would try to read their lips sometimes to get the Portuguese.

Lado

novelera, so nice to read your comments again,

thanks for throwing in the off shore company stuff, a construction company I believe, put together when Ernesto was still Attorney General, that was getting contracts from the Mexican government.

hmm, there is a character named the Texan, he put up the money to buy a third of the girls.

so far Kat has put up detailed recaps of the first 3 episodes here,

http://5ftlatina.com/cohete/

"LADO":

Novelera: I guess that Snotty Julian will be corrupt just like his Daddy when he gets older.

"LADO":

Deb: Ernesto has aspirations for Los Pinos (Residence of the President) considering he's already AG of the United Mexican States & current Governor of the State of Puebla.
