Papá a toda madre Wed. 4/25/18 Capítulo 70: Reality Bites--OR--Kika On a Roll

At Logatoys, Mauricio is having it out with Falcón. Mauricio asks him point blank if it was Fabián who had María put in jail. Falcón laughs him off. The loss of the company is really affecting him. Mauricio informs him: if Fabián had something to do with it, he will pay for it. Falcón says he will tell Fabián and asks him to leave. Mauricio makes a point of telling him that he cannot be threatened like Renée. No matter what Fabián does the cooperative will move on ahead. Still chuckling, Falcón decides if there is anything else Mauricio has to say then he really should write it all down in a notebook. A more serious Falcón then wishes him good luck in proving his accusations. Fabián is not as stupid as he is. Mauricio leaves telling Falcón to tell Fabián what he said.

At Jorge's, Jorge goes to talk to Lili in her bedroom. She has been looking at photos on her phone of her mother and the early Christmas they had with him or rather "Uncle Jorge". She asks who came up with the idea of "Uncle Jorge". Jorge remembers that he talked to her mother telling her that he had to see his children even if it could only be once a year. From that, her mother decided that they should invent "Uncle Jorge" so he could be with them. Lili reminds him that his visits were not enough. Jorge does not disagree but hopes that maybe someday she will understand the guilt he lives with. Jorge admits that when he sees everything that is going on now . . . with this "mistake", he blames himself for not being there. Lili gets upset. Her baby is not a "mistake" and she doesn't want it to be considered as such. Why cannot he try to understand her and walk in her shoes? He is trying . . . Lili does not agree. Even though they live together, he is still very "absent" and not just for her and Baldo but also for Valentina and Samuel.

Fabián is with his father Noél. Fabián is looking over the plans for a robot his father invented. Fabián asks him if he remembers when his beloved "KR15" robot was all he could talk about because Fabián remembers. Fabián was dying to to see it all ready to go, play with it and then one day Noél stopped working on it just like that. He never found out why. He imagined it must have gotten lost . . . Just at that moment a visibly upset Noél takes the plans and starts ripping them up. When he is done, Fabián asks him "why?" His father insists that the project was a big mistake, the beginning of the end. Noél thanks Fabián for having reminded him of the worst moment in his life. Fabián has just proved himself to be an imbecile once again.

Charytín, Kika's sister, has just arrived at her suite in full disguise with the head scarf and sunglasses that she used when she was in Jorge's car. She comes in moaning about arriving last night and wanting to sleep until noon today. Kika cannot believe how exaggerated she is. It was only a three hour flight. Kika says it wasn't like a flight from Moscow or Beijing. She thanks her for coming to help out with the sham. Did she give him her card? Yes, he practically snatched it out of her hand. He really seemed desperate for work. Kika asks if she thought he was handsome. Charytín agrees that he was not ugly. Kika thinks he is so very handsome. She feels that she really loves him.

Jorge is informing Lili how difficult it is to deal with four adolescents every single day. He cannot be a full-time father. Lili says that they don't want that but if being a father is so complicated and so hard why not try being like a "mother" a little with them. That confuses Jorge. Lili explains that he could be more charming, more cool, lighten up just a little bit. That throws Jorge for a loop. He doesn't get it. It is sort of strange. In order to be a mother he would have to be a woman. He is a man. He can only be a father. Lili looks fed up as Jorge goes on and on and continues by saying that that is how men end up like that little couple living in the cul-de-sac who want her baby. Lili tells him that maybe he should think before he speaks and maybe think before he offers his opinion about other people because his way of judging the world may not be as Christian as he thinks. Jorge calms down and does not want to argue. Lili next tells Jorge that she and Pablo have decided not to give the baby up for adoption. Jorge is the happiest man in the world but not for long because Lili adds that she and Pablo are going to the USA so her baby can be born there.

At Restrepo Sistemas, Verónica calls her secretary Adelina to see if she found out anything about Sr. Antonio. Adelina stutters out a yes. Verónica asks if he is on his way. Adelina stutters out a "Bu-". Verónica wonders what is he doing so much with Bustamante? She needs him now. Adelina says she told him and stutters out that that is how men are. Verónica tells her yes, men are very dumb. She thanks her and hangs up.

Renée is talking with Rafael. He wants to know what she found out from Fabián about the man living with him. Fabián almost said he wasn't his father but she feels that that the man is Noél Carvajal even though she cannot prove it. Rafael wants to know why she is so sure. Renée says because her house is in his name, the photo of her mother where she is is looking at him, Fabián's attitude towards her as well as how surprised "don Noél" got when she mentioned her mother. Rafael reminds her there was another man in the photo. Maybe he is her father. Renée says no it could not be Bosco and he should not even go there.

Mauricio and María are out walking in a park. María contacted some of her friends to see who could behind this all. Mauricio tells her she can investigate all she wants but he feels like it is Fabián. He does not know how he knows it. It is a hunch. María is having a tough time believing Fabián would go to such lengths involving her and his own child. Mauricio is sure that Fabián does not want to hurt her, he Mauricio is the target. He knows Fabián very well and he would do this and a lot more to get back at him. Mauricio does not understand what Fabián would have to be envious of now in the state he is in. María knows that when it comes to her or the cooperative Mauricio will not give up on them. She trusts him. Mauricio likes what he hears. He thinks that is the best compliment he has ever been given in his whole life.

At work, it is clear that Verónica is outside of the "old boys club" as she watches as Toño his boss "don Busta" and another employee are all yukking it up in his bosses' offie. The boss apologizes for having kept Toño for so long. It was all his fault and finally Toño returns to work. Verónica lets him have it about "don Busta" and the cozy little get together. She reminds him that they both need their jobs. Toño understands that. He was just making use of his charm. Did she not see how happy they were? She tells him it is always the same with him. If he would just do his work . . . Toño interrupts her to show her discount coupons for Flor's medications. She is impressed and wants to know how he did it. Toño says a magician never gives away his tricks and smiles like the Cheshire cat.

Renée says of course the best thing would be to ask Noél directly even though he and Fabián say he is Fabián's uncle. It seems they are lying to her and she is going to prove it. Mauricio told her that Fabián was taking care of an uncle. Rafael thinks it would be a good time to confront him and find out about her so-called brother. The truth of the matter was he almost didn't talk when she saw him. If she could see him without Fabián chances are he would tell her the truth and maybe stop Fabián from taking her house away..
At Logatoys, Fabián is wondering how he is going to make it all happen. He announces that first he will have to fire that useless Gladys as he plays with some tape as he repairs the ripped up toy plans. Falcón asks him what he is taping. Fabián turns around and asks Falcón if his father is alive. Falcón's father is dead. Fabián asks if his father ever played with him, supported him or was he a real pain, hurting him, vilely tormenting him, humiliating him as some fathers have been known to do. Falcón remembers his father as being very stern and not very expressive as one would say but he worked very hard to give him a good education. That was not easy because there were so many kids in the family. Fabián asks if he got along well with his siblings and if he still sees them. Yes, Falcón does and wants to know where these questions are heading. Fabián shows Falcón the only toy plan of his father's that he has and he mentions that he had to take it by force. They are going to make a toy based on that design. He is going to have to make some adjustments that his father is not going to like. He gives Falcón the tape to find the end to he can tear off the small pieces he needs.

Jorge makes it clear to Lili that if she is telling him all of this to provoke him, he is not going to get into it with her. If she is telling him that is what she is really planning on doing, it is a monumental mistake for of all three of them to go to the USA. Lili is confused. Isn't he all about "family values"? Well, that is what she is supporting. She and Pablo are going on together. Would Jorge prefer that her child grow up without his father? Jorge asks what "father". Pablo has no job and is poor. He is not responsible or he would not have gotten her pregnant. She informs him that they are both responsible and for his information (TMI) the one who decided to "do it" without a condom was her. Jorge cannot bear to hear any of those intimate details. Jorge decides that they are going to go and tell Rodrigo and Rafael to forget about the baby and then he can sit down and talk to her and the Guatemalan. Lili cannot believe what she is hearing and informs Jorge that he has nothing to do with with this issue and he better not dare try to stick his nose in it. Jorge says he just wants to make sure that Pablo does not leave her and gives Rodolfo and Rafael his grandchild. Lili thinks that each day is just worse with Jorge. The only thing that he wants to do is impose his will but this time he is not going to be able to.

At her house, Flor is telling Pablo how happy she is that he and Lili have reconciled and have decided not to give up the baby. She is giving him baby advice. Disposable diapers are more expensive than gasoline. If anyone wants to give him anything, he might as well ask for 10 kilos of them, etc. Even if Pablo doesn't know how he and Lilli may end up, having a baby is a live-long commitment. Nerón arrives and thanks Pablo for staying with Flor. Now he can go to the tire shop. He reminds her of her pending doctor's appointment.

Back at work with Verónica and Toño. She is sitting at her desk working away as he is strolling with his cellphone around her office laughing. She asks to him go because he is distracting her. Her wishes are his commands. He excuses himself because he has to look at his phone and sees something that makes him laugh out loud again. She asks him to silence his phone and his laugh. Toño informs her that it is the group chat from the office that he is monitoring it. Important information can come that way.She knows nothing about it. He offers to include her. She cannot be bothered. He tells her that even though this is a "conservative" firm, the people working there are a lot of fun. He suggests it as a way for her to make a good impression on people. She asks if she is not making a good impression now. Toño starts to lecture on first impressions being very important. He tells her that if on the first day, one is distant in greeting people, doesn't have a cup of coffee, remains distant . . . Verónica insists she has done none of that. Toño says she is right she has not done any of it. Verónica is left looking bewildered as Toño excuses himself to go pick up the kids at school. He hands her his work, leaves with his eyes on his phone, laughing and saying he will forward that post to her. Verónica is left stewing. She picks up her phone and asks the secretary for a list of all of the employees' birthdays.

Mauricio and María go pick up Anifer where they run into Toño. The conversation goes from the teacher telling them that Anifer and Neto will be in a production to Toño talking about getting used to his new work schedule to María talking about needing to get a job. She asks Toño if something might be available where he works. He says he will ask around. The rest of the kids join them.

Rodrigo arrives home where Rafael and Renée are eating. Rafael gets up to get him a plate. Renée fills Rodrigo in on what is going on. They were having a conversation about the house and the man who wants to take it from her. She leaves. Rodrigo feels sorry for her. Rafael thinks that she is very strong and can handle this and worse. Rodrigo asks if he has talked to Jorge. Rafael says there has been no communication. They should stay away from them for a few ways until they can consult with a lawyer. The doorbell rings. It is Lili and Pablo. Pablo tells them the bad news. After thinking about their situation, he and Lili have decided not to give up their baby for adoption. Rafael and Rodrigo are stunned but manage to grab each other's hand in mutual consolation.

Valentina asks her father if he is doing okay as they both sit at the dining room table. Jorge admits that there are just a lot of things going on. Baldo breaks his gaming haze long enough to asks where Lili is and to be indignant that she is with that guy from the cul-de-sac. Jorge says they will talk about that another time. Valentina asks how his day was. He says that thanks to God it was very busy. Valentina adds "thanks to Kika". Jorge wonders what she is talking about. Valentina says that Kika has just been wonderful with all of them and now with Lili. He moves to the gamers in the living room and tells them to turn it down because he is getting a headache. Valentina gets a message on her phone: "Seriously, you aren't going to 'friend' me?"

As they get their manicure done together, Charytín is giving Kika a tough time about her sexy loser of a boyfriend not having called all morning. Kika is not letting it get to her. if he does not call today, he will call tomorrow. Charytín says supposing that he does call, is her associate ready with the plan. Of course! Everything is just so well planned so her beautiful Jorge has a super job. She loves him so much. Charytín asks if they are going to pay him more than what he is worth. Kika is getting annoyed. Her man should have time to take care of his cooperative. Charytín always knew she was a populist. Kika is determined to help her beautiful man until he is well established in his cooperative.

Rodrigo asks if they are backing out because Jorge threatened them. Pablo says no and tells them that he and Lili made the decision themselves as he tenderly puts his arm around her. Lili tells them that Jorge does not want them together. Pablo knows they are not going to have it easy. On one hand, Rodrigo is very happy for them and he knows that his husband will understand, too, even if he does not look like he does now. Rodrigo puts his arm around a sadly smiling Rafael. He hopes they are sure about what they are going to do because they are going to have to grow up really quickly. Pablo thanks them for seeing them and says goodbye along with Lili. A deflated Rafael is left clearing the table. He notices a gift sitting on the table. He asks about it. Rodrigo says it really just some foolishness and leaves Rafael alone with the box. There is a baby rattle in it. Rodrigo says he is buying toys for a baby they are never going to have. He asks Rafael if they made a mistake. Rafael says no, they did not make a mistake. The rattle is not for Lili's baby but it is is for their own baby. It is time for them to legally adopt a baby the right way like Rodrigo wanted to do in the first place. Rodrigo smiles.

Mauricio is at home talking to María. Mauricio thinks that Juan Pérez could be the key in finding out what is going on with Fabián. María says they have to find something that can connect them. Mauricio knows a policeman that might be able to lend them a hand. María does not want to involve the police.

Pablo has accompanied Lili to her home and is talking to Jorge. He wants Jorge to hear this from his mouth. He and Lili have decided to take care of their baby and will be moving on together. Baldo is lingering in the background listening to it all. Jorge wants to know how he plans to cross the border. Are they going to risk their lives along with that of the baby? The situation for immigrants in the USA is really bad right now. Baldo has to chime in saying that the only reason Lili is with Pablo is because he got her pregnant. Lili asks him to try to understand and to not stick his nose in her business. Jorge adds tha nobody was talking to him. Jorge wants to know how they are going to live in he USA. What are they going to do to feed the baby? Pablo has it all planned out. He will start working right away and also studying so he can get his high school diploma. He is also sure that his father will help him out as soon as he finds him. Jorge asks him what that means. It is obvious that he has not found his father yet. Is there a lead he has to follow or is this just his own wishful thinking? Pablo admits that he knows nothing yet but there is a Guatemalan community that is lending him a hand in finding his father. Jorge tells them both that what they have told him is not enough to be able to subsist in a country that is not their own and that has another language. They are going to be illegal and have problems with the law. Their plan is absurd from beginning to end. Lili reminds him that she and Baldo will soon be eighteen and they will have access to the inheritance that her mother left them. Jorge leaves the room and yells at Valentina and Samuel for listening in.

Renée shows up outside of Noél's house banging on the metal gate outside saying it is urgent that she talk to him. She has an envelope in her hand. She knows he is inside and it will only take ten minutes. She wants to ask him about things that only he is probably able to answer. It all has to do with things from the past. She asks for his help. Since there is no answer, she yells that she wrote him something just in case he wasn't going to see her. She asks him to read it. She is risking that Fabián will see the letter instead of him. He can only imagine how desperate she is. She pushes the envelope in between the metal doors and it drops to the ground on the other side where it is secured on the ground by the rubber tip of a cane.

Mauricio is with María and asking for help from Rodrigo. He is silent as María has to stick in her unsolicited opinion that she thinks that the police should be at the community's service. That clearly rubs Rodrigo the wrong way. He isn't even on duty. Mauricio calls a time-out because he doesn't want them to get into it. He asks María not to start making complaints against the police. She says okay but this situation of asking the police for help is entirely new for her. Rodrigo reminds her that se has to understand that not all police are the same. He asks Mauricio how he can help since everything that Mauricio has mentioned are just suppositions. They cannot do a single thing without proof. Is there a clue, something they could follow up on, anything?

Inside of his home, Noél opens up the envelope and looks at the photo at Logatoys from so many years ago. He then reads Renée's letter. The only thing that she is asking is that she read this letter until the end. She wants him to understand that Fabián wants to kick her out of the house that her mother Catalina Moreno left her before she died. Fabián took a design and some plans that she was going to use in her graduate studies. She thinks he plagiarized them and she can show him.

At Logatoys in his office in the presence of Falcón, Fabián is telling an engineer to adapt the plans but not to change anything without consulting with him first. The engineer is not too sure about that since the plans are for building a real robot. Fabián sarcastically asks him why he bothered to study because it is obvious that he has to adapt it to be a toy: not life-size but the size of a toy. The engineer agrees warily and packs up to leave his office.

Mauricio goes over to Toño's thinking they were going to have a meeting. Toño's kids are home so Mauricio suggests that they could join Anifer. Mauricio is sort of stuck on what to do next with the cooperative. Toño tells him they need a new product. They also need time and money. Time and money and patience.

Nerón goes with Flor to her doctor who says that Flor is dong fine with the chemotherapy. Of course, there are side effects but that is unavoidable. Flor asks what happens next. They are going to intensify the chemotherapy so the side effects will appear more quickly. Nerón wants to know what he is talking about. The doctor talks about Flor losing her hair. Flor jokes about it. Also, her general health could deteriorate. Flor does not have a problem with that because whatever happens she doesn't want it ever to be said that Flor Ivonne was unwilling to give it a try or that she gave up.

In the middle of their gaming, Samuel and Baldo get into it about Pablo. Samuel thinks that Pablo is a good guy. Baldo doesn't see how that gives him permission to get his sister pregnant. Samuel accuses him of racism. Baldo insists it is not racism; it is just that we are not all the same. That does nothing to change Samuel's mind. Baldo is now a "mega-racist". Baldo goes into the dining room to talk to Jorge who is working at the dining room table. He wants a new pair of tennis shoes and does not get the answer he wants. Jorge tells him that they do not have any extra money for expenses like that right now. Baldo throws a tantrum saying they are not going to be poor if he gets a new pair of shoes, etc., etc., etc. Jorge asks him to just go back to his video games. Baldo starts talking about taking money from his inheritance which will be his when he is eighteen. Jorge informs him that the inheritance is for his education not for tennis shoes. Baldo does not agree. That is Jorge's idea not what his mother intended. The money was supposed to be for whatever he wanted to do with it. Jorge tells him that he has more important things to do. He is going to Mauricio's for a meeting. He leaves telling the boys to behave themselves.

At Nerón's house, he and Flor are commiserating and comforting each other with the news from the latest doctor visit. She is going to put on a brave face. Better to laugh than cry. Somebody knocks at the door. It is Renée who Nerón asked to come and stay with Flor awhile he has to be out. Flor is not happy. Renée says she only came to talk without Nerón being around which makes Flor happy. Flor immediately notices that something is off with Renée and asks her if everything is okay. Flor loves her gossip. Renée is going to tell her everything.

Mauricio and the other members of the cooperative meet in the gazebo. Nerón wants to know what new product is he talking about. Mauricio explains this is a brainstorming session. Toño' kids are playing outside under his watchful eye because there is nowhere else for them to be. Jorge would love to see his kids out of the house to see the light of day and take a break from their video games especially Samuel. Nerón reminds them he is the one whose wife is ill with cancer. Mauricio gets the meeting going and talks about the "life" of a toy being increasingly short. When the kids are little they are just perfect but when they see those video games they stay plugged in. Toño says that is happening sooner and sooner and uses his own kids as an example.

At Kika's suite, Kika is just so happy that everything is going so wonderfully. Charytín tells her it has until now but she better pray to Babalú or whatever saint she wants that her "associate" doesn't mention anything to her useless guy that she is behind this all. Kika fully trusts her associate. Charytín informs her that their dad wants to talk to Kika. Kika will do that later. She is too excited with everything going so well../Cultural trivia: Babalú (Ayé)is one of the spirits of the Yoruba religion that came to the New World with African slave labor and continued to exist parallel to the Africans' conversion to Christianity and ended up mingling with it. Nowadays, it is commonly known as santería in the Cuban community but has left an imprint all over the Caribbean. Kika and Charytín are from Venezuela and Babalú was mentioned along with all of the other the saints. He has become a part of the general culture. So, Desi Arnaz was not singing about something frivolous in Babalú Ayé way back when. :) /

Back at the gazebo, Toño is giving Nerón some coupons that he can use to really cut the cost of Flor's medications. Nerón is so grateful. Toño says it doesn't cost him a thing and it is for Nerón and his family. Next, Jorge gives Nerón an interest free payment of his future earnings from the cooperative that he can pay back whenever. Nerón is overwhelmed. Jorge tells them that he has an interview for a new job as a lawyer. Nerón wonders if he can borrow Jorge's car and make some money driving while he is at work. Mauricio interrupts them with an idea. He has been observing the children outside with their tablet. He has noticed that the kids play with their video games for a while and then they get tired of them. Mauricio is interested in creating a toy that joins video games and physical activity. They start talking about games they played when they were kids.

Renée is finishing her conversation with Flor. Yes, she is single once again. Flor tells her not to say that. She is a real catch. Flor lists all of her good qualities. Renée confesses that she has no interest in men right now. Flor tells her that everything happens for a reason. Renée asks Flor if she wants more coffee. Flor accuses her of changing the subject. Flor says what she really needs her to do is help her shave her head. That is not what Renée was expecting.

Not too bad of an episode. Finally Renée Is paying attention to what she should be paying attention to: solving the Noél connection.. Jorge was right how Lili and Pablo’s plans to go to USA were useless. I wonder if he will try to help them.

Haven't seen the episode but sure enjoyed the recap, starting with the sassy title.

and this:
"Rafael and Rodrigo are stunned but manage to grab each other's hand in mutual consolation."

At last, they're supporting each other, rather than lapsing into sulks and misunderstandings. Nice to see that evolution and the resulting decision to adopt a child through normal channels.

Loved "gaming haze". Yes, indeed. Our son has been in a gaming haze since the age of 10. Thirty some years later, still in the same haze. Family get-togethers and work are just an annoying interruption.

Also loved the info on Babalu. When I was in Rio visiting some Brazilian friends (eons ago when I had a more interesting life) I heard lots about the influx of African saints and religious practices and how they had melded with Catholicism. Not that different from how the Winter celebrations in areas like today's Germany melded into Catholicism to produce Christmas traditions. Religious practices and customs seem to evolve and change in the same way that language does.

Rodrigo must be a saint. He's had to withstand verbal assaults and insults from both Jorge and Maria lately. Still think he needs a long hot shower to relax after those confrontations.Happy to provide the soap.

Thanks Jarifa. Lovely start to my day.

Jarifa, I loved the episode but your recap brought a brillantly shining sun into the day. I enjoyed every single word. A short story masterpiece.

"Baldo breaks his gaming haze" and "Rafael and Rodrigo are stunned but manage to grab each other's hand in mutual consolation" were among many favorites.

Enjoyed reading about "Babalú (Ayé)". You always infuse such interesting vocabulary and fun facts. Thank you.

"Toño says a magician never gives away his tricks and smiles like the Cheshire cat". One of the best scenes of the night. Tono has many fautlts but a hard heart is not one of them.

"He tells her that if on the first day, one is distant in greeting people, doesn't have a cup of coffee, remains distant . . .". Surprisingly sage advice from our not quite out of the doghouse Tono. Vero is a staunch, supportive friend and she needs to find a way to transition her caring nature into the workplace. It may not be fair, but people naturally gravitate toward those warm and friendly. Workplace 101.

"It is time for them to legally adopt a baby the right way like Rodrigo wanted to do in the first place. Rodrigo smiles". Finally!

So, is there any inheritance left or is it all in Mau’s co-op???

"whatever happens she doesn't want it ever to be said that Flor Ivonne was unwilling to give it a try or that she gave up". Your family needs you Flor. As do we.

“Baldo insists it is not racism; it is just that we are not all the same”. Is there anything the tiniest bit likeable about Baldo? Please patio peeps, if you can find something, please share.

Renee may get to keep her house but ending up with monsters for a brother and father may be too high a price.

Yes, Kika is likely to be the one to help Lili and Pablo. I'm dying to see how she does it.

I typed a very long comment and lost it so this is my second...Getting ready to post and I'm smiling as I see you and I loved the same lines Judy. No surprise!

Jarifa, thank you, thank you.

Diana

JudyB, Rafael was incredibly under control when he received the bad news. His opening the box with the rattle was so sad but now that he has agreed to adopt, I hope we get to see R and R with a child before the end of this . . . And maybe Rafael with a bar of soap in his hand . . . He is a cutie.

Diana, I never thought about Renée “with monsters for a brother and father” implicating all it does. Nasty people! As for the inheritance . . . That could be one difficult conversation. Maybe Baldo will run away from home. I can hope, right?

Well, Thank You Jarifa, are we there yet? The Kika Show rocks. Luuuurve Kika, she is smart and gets things done. And she thinks outside the box.

Not hard to look at. But that black number looked like Home Depot had shrink wrapped her like a pallet of Mulch ready for delivery. Complete with some thigh-exposing defects in the shrink wrap plastic. Sorry Kika, you're still pretty.

Charytin is nice too. we have not had that many good looks at her in person. I loved her facial expressions behind Kika's back when she was going headlong with her plans.

I have NO CLUE what giving the original picture to Noel is supposed to achieve. He can now take out his BIC and burn it to a crisp and send the ashes back to numbskull with a note: Thanks, Dummy.

“Are we there yet?” Is perfect. Very funny as the plot goes crawling along. Also, very funny is that Kika is far more interesting than the heroine at the present time.

Jarifa – Thank you for your recap *and* the education on Babalú. I had no idea and always thought it was a Desi Arnaz/I Love Lucy thing, too. It’s always nice when a religion or native ideas are permitted to interweave with a new religion, like the Irish were allowed to keep their “faeries” when Catholicism was brought in. Smart.

Poor Jorge, he only sees the world as black and white with no gray middle area. Narrow-minded wretch that he is, there is only hope that he will open his mind. And heart. Seriously, I do not know what Kika sees in him beyond “project!” The guy must be really good in the sack.

Pablo and Lili really don’t stand a chance in the U.S. on their own. I’m not sure how Pablo could enroll in high school without the right documents, but what do I know? They have no clue how expensive rent and living costs will be, nor does Pablo really know how his father is doing, financially. Whatever, I’m glad Lili is taking a stand against Jorge steamrolling her life.

Baldo, get a part-time job if you want new shoes! I know this is just a plot propeller to uncover the trust funds used toward the cooperative, but, still …

” Tono has many fautlts but a hard heart is not one of them.” So true, Diana, and this is why I cannot dislike him.

doris, you are making me laugh: “The guy must be “really” good in the sack.” I have also wondered what the attraction is. You just might be right.

Jarifa, thank you for another of your always entertaining and detailed recaps.

Wow, I enjoyed all the insightful comments this morning.

Tono does have a good heart , and he looked very nice in his suit.
Doris, I think you may have the answer to kikis attraction to Jorny after also sampling Fab and Maury',s charms. Who would have suspected that he is a generous , skilled lover?

Jarifa: You are AWESOME!

Good Morning. Patio Peeps! Thank you, Jarifa for a most excellent recap...and thank yuo for the tidbit of info on Babalu...always something to learn here at Caray :-)

I was not impressed with how Mau reacted to Falcon's responses. I wonder if Rulli has the same type of response in real life..."Eh! Eh!" That was somewhat annoying to me. And of course, everyone knew (except for Mau) that Falcon wouldn't divulge any information.

Jarifa, "Jorge was right how Lili and Pablo’s plans to go to USA were useless." ITA, finally, I agreed with one of Jorge's opinions.

Diana, "Vero is a staunch, supportive friend and she needs to find a way to transition her caring nature into the workplace." Yes, she does!

Kirby, "I loved her facial expressions behind Kika's back when she was going headlong with her plans." Those were pretty good, I like them too.

Doris, "Seriously, I do not know what Kika sees in him beyond “project!” The guy must be really good in the sack." With all the experience(s) she has had...he must be! THey can;t understand how they ended up together; and neither can I.

I love Flor's attitude...what a strong woman she is.

Was Tono unqualified to have Vero's job, or did he specifically look for an assistant type of position? The boss likes him, so I figured he would have a better position already.

Pablo and Lili can make it in the US, but it would take a lot of dedication, hardwork, and some disappointing times. But they can do it. Lot's of young people under 21 cross the border and survive here, whether alone or with family. Plus, if their baby is born in the US, the baby would be entitled to medical and food benefits, at the very least.

Dulce said Jorge sucked in bed and couldn't stand being with him anymore because of it. Maybe Kika just likes different things.

Maia

Maia, I think both Tono and Vero are computer engineers, but remember that Vero beat out Tono at Inovacars because she knew multiple languages and was more up-to-date on current trends sice she had more time to do some home studying and research when she was working part-time. also when TOno first applied for the job, Vero was still working at Inovacars; so Tono was only looking for a part-time job.

And, "Dulce said Jorge sucked in bed and couldn't stand being with him anymore because of it." Different strokes for different folks??? What one may like, the other may not :-)

Thanks, Steve.

RgvChick, thanks for mentioning Mauricio and the “Eh?” thing. It got on my nerves, too, and became almost comical which was not the intent.

Maia, I think Dulce told him he was bad in bed just to hurt him.

Susanlynn, ITA about Toño having a good heart in a general sense. Too bad he couldn't have had the same good heart in how he treated Verónica as a wife. So sad.

Almost every one of these do that Eh? thing. It seems to be primarily in a semi confrontational conversation, as in "What do you have to say now, smartie, huh? huh?" Renee does it all the time, and I noticed after Jorge awoke from his Kika pillow and they were arguing she did it a lot. There is a lot more.

Jarifa, thanks for your great recap and for the extra information. I didn't know anything about Babalú, not even the Desi Arnaz association. The only thing that comes to mind is a very short musical line that goes "Babalú, where are you?" Don't ask, I don't know where that comes from and a quick search turns up nothing. Ah, life can be tough sometimes.

Kika is more interesting, but Charytín is cuter. Just sayin'.

andy

Re Charytin: Andy, once again your taste in women is spot on. Me...mine seems to be colored by my fasciantion for carnival rides which require a waiver and seatbelt.

Kirby, yes, “eh” is equivalent to “huh”. It is true that it is used frequently by many, maybe it was supposed to be comical, but last night Mau just sounded dumb. There are some other frequently used expressions I have learned since I started watching these TNs...though I’ve been bilingual my entire life. Here are two others—

“Va” = okay

Neta = really/honestly. Or
La neta = the truth/to be honest

RgvChick, if nothing else these novelas keep us up to date on current colloquial vocab and expressions. The "va" thing seems to be rather recent.

Andy, you never know what you are going to find in these novelas . . . even a Charyttín!

"Va" has always been around, but novelas don't really use it. And novelas tend to focus more on the lives of the wealthy, who don't speak in those terms.

Thanks, Jarifa. I missed it completely last night and I'm looking forward to reading your recap tonight.

Slow day on the patio...Dreary day in the RGV, but we got some much needed rain last night!! Woohooo!!

Anon 3:20 I returned to TNLand approximately 18 months, but ever since then, in every TN I have watched, the expression "va" has been used...even among the wealthy TN families. In "Simplemente Maria" one of the wealthy antagonists likes to use "Captas?" which means "Get it?/Understand?" Now my sister and I use it all the time :-)

...that would be "18 months AGO" ...

The Mexican version of Capiche??

Hey RGV what is it that TN people always say when they are busy and someone rings the doorbell too many times?
It is Voy or Va or something, and said like 'Alright already, I am coming"
It is a short little one syllable word.

Kirby, it’s “voy” like GOING!!

Or rather “COMING!!!” But they tend to drag it out ...”VOOOOY!!!” :-)

Maaaan Ximena Cordoba didn't last long with Rooms To Go.
Now that Sophia Viagra is back on every commercial for RTG.

Xemina just can't find a good place to light and stay for a while.

OK, I was hearing right VOooOY ! Thanks

Oh Shoot showtime....bye
