Por Amar Sin Ley, 6/20/18 Chapter 79 Miercoles: Words (#80 covered in the comments section)

Chapter 79: Words
I'm Christopher Mason. To anyone in the practice of law words are more than communication; they are weapons. Many people with less expertise use words to hit others with, but lawyers and politicians can and do use words with knife-sharp precision. In our story tonight we will see the direction of this war on all its fronts.
  • Jaime put the morning paper on the table and demanded an explanation from Jacinto Durantes. He told him in no uncertain terms that if he was deceiving him he would resign his case. Durantes told him he ha been in Alonso's office when the crime took place and he was fed up with lies being told about himself. He claimed he was fighting for his life.
  • Leticia stood up at the staff meeting, demanding to know what happened to Elena. Roberto told her to calm down and what hospital Elena was in. Gustavo said that Ricardo always helps everyone so they must now help him. Alonso said that Ricardo now had to deal with his family problems. Alejandra said “Of course,” and looked as though she was losing all hope. Benjamín made a sarcastic comment. Alonso told him and Leticia to stand up. He then told them to wait for him in his office, then wished everyone else a good week. He was not in a good mood.
The others left; Benjamín and Leticia were alone in the conference room.
He asked if she was alright and she told him “No. My friend's life is in danger and now I have to worry about my job. If you think I will forgive you you are very mistaken.” She blamed him for this, he said they were both guilty, and she said “You were the married one, not I.”
She went to her office, leaving him alone in the conference room. He punched the table in frustration.
  • This is the rejection that Leticia should have made long ago.
  • Jaime gave advice that Jacinto rejected, saying that the scandal would be ruinous. He made an insincere comment of lament about Fausto's death, but claimed that Fausto was power-hungry. He claimed to be innocent. Jaime said he would seek justice. He told Jaime to be impartial. Jaime said not to worry.
However, he did look like he was beginning to have doubts.
  • Lourdes talked about Alonso with her friends while they were all getting manicures and sipping bellinis. They speculated on what could happen to the friendship of Alonso and Jaime because of the current case.
  • Alejandra was concerned about Ricardo's situation. Victoria told her that Elena wsas in very serious condition and that Ricardo was wrongly blaming himself for it because he went to her apartment to get the children. All three knew that Ricardo was not at fault but Victoria had trouble convincing him of that. Alejandra wanted to contact him but didn't know if that was correct. They all decided that she should wait until Elena was better.
  • Which could be never, under the circumstances. Since Elena and Ricardo were divorced at least a year ago, there is no justifiable reason for Alejandra to keep her distance.... except for what Carlos would make of this.
  • Alonso lectured the transgressors about respecting their place of work for the sake of their clients. Karina had caught them in the act and it could have been a client. Leticia tried to apologise, Bejamin tried making excuses, but Alonso was not having it. He told them that this had better never happen again. Both left the office. Alonso looked as though he had a few dowbts of his own.
  • Carmen told Roberto and Leonardo about Durantes' visit and how Alonso didn't want her to call the police. Roberto guessed that Durantes was feeling cornered and was probably capable of anything. Carmen was concerned because Alonso doesn't want security like this. Roberto and Leonardo thanked her and said they would see what they could do.
  • Alejandra finished her tea and decided to get started on Ricardo's pending cases. She thanked Victoria and left her office. Olivia commented that Alejandra is sad that Ricardo is with Elena, but Victoria said she must understand why. More conversation about not being able to help someone important to one during life's difficulties, but Victoria said that Ricardo is strong and will survive this, especially because of his children. Olivia mentioned how nice the kids were and how good Leonardo was with them. She was definitely impressed by that.
  • Lisabeth Herrera came to see Alonso because Durantes' office had contacted her. He wants to be on the air about the investigation. Lisabeth came to Alonso's office to see if he was willing to be on the air with him. Alonso was alright with that. Of course this would also be about Fausto's death, which he is investigating. This was to take place that evening.
  • Of course, for Lisabeth this is really all about ratings.
  • Roberto dozed off while working with Juan, then explained he had been up with Ricardo the whole night before. Juan understood and offered his and his mother's help watching the kids, or whatever else was needed. There was a knock and Carmen admitted the two women whom he represented. Their lives were back to normal and they came to thank him. They brought a cake they made and cut a slice which had to be more delicious than it looked.
  • Carmen escorted one of Ricardo's clients in to see Alejandra. Daniela Seguro needed help because Nuria was not complying with the terms worked out months before. She had done so in the beginning, sending photos of their son and information about his schoolwork, but had stopped writing two months ago. Daniela had deposited money for the boy's care. Daniela had sent e-mails and called her cell phone, but she would not answer. Alejandra said she would look into it. Daniela asked about Ricardo and Alejandra said he was handling a personal problem but she was handling cases for him. She said not to worry, that she would personally contact Nuria.
  • Ricardo sat at Elena's bedside. There had been no change in her condition. Leonardo and Olivia arrived and Ricardo stepped out of the room to talk to him. Ricardo was still feeling guilty about the accident. Leonardo told him he shouldn't in view of the situation. There had been tests that disclosed that Miguel had consumed drugs but Elena had not. However, he was in better condition than Elena. Ricardo just hoped that Elena would recover for the children's sake, as they were sad and worried. He wasn't sure how much longer they could take this.
  • Olivia stopped by Benjamín's office with Karina's divorce petition. Benjamín whined about why Karina didn't talk to him and Olivia told him that it was way too late for that and now was the time to think about his son. Benjamín told her that everything he ever did was for his son. He looked at the file and said Karina was demanding too much. She was looking for the house, alimony, and child support. Benjamín protested that she will have to work and Olivia said that until then he will have to pay. He tried to weasel his way out of this, saying “You're my colleague...” etc., but Olivia stood firm.
“Sorry; that is what Karina wants.”
The net of his refusal was “I'll see you in court.”
Olivia did not flinch, but she told him to at least review it.
  • When she was working late that night Alejandra screwed her courage to the sticking place and called Ricardo. He was happy she called him and said so. She told him she was taking care of his cases while he took care of family business. He was grateful. The call was brief and she cried after ending it.
  • The late news that night carried the encounter between Alonso and Durantes. It started out civil but Alonso mentioned Fauto's death and Durantes claimed that he had nothing to do with that. Alonso asked about the money meant for education and health. Durantes claimed to have inherited a lot of red ink and the money had to go where it was most needed. He insisted his hands were clean. Alonso raised the issue of the construction fraud and the charges of corruption.
  • Alejandra visited Nuria's home and was told by her father that she was away on vacation. When she introduced herself as having been Nuria's lawyer he said “You're the lawyer who lost the case that thing brought against my daughter, claiming to be the father of her son.” Alejandra told him that his daughter had signed an agreement that she is no longer complying with and that she was there to find out why. He demanded to know whether that agreement allowed “that thing” to call their house. She said it didn't, but the only reason Daniela called was because Nuria had stopped sending photos and information.
Nuria's father said that the agreement was a mistake and that “that thing” has no rights over his grandson. He didn't want “that thing” in his grandson's life. Alejandra told him that if this continues he will be getting a court order, then left.
  • Durantes said he had nothing to hide. He knew he wasn't perfect and that he makes mistakes but what about Vega & Associates? Are they free from corruption? Alonso said that neither he nor any of his lawyers have anyting to do with such things. Durantes then told Lisabeth that he gave a disc to her production department that had arrived at his office that morning and they went to video.
The video was the one Ramiro shot of Benjamín in the parking garage. Alonso carefully did not react. Durantes said that Benjamín Acosta worked for Vega and was laundering money. He challenged Alonso to comment. Alonso admitted that Benjamín worked at his firm but said that he does not tolerate such actions. Durantes then accused Alonso of hypocrisy because of this activity. Alonso disavowed any knowledge of Benjamín's actions. Durantes played the victim and then named the female lawyers, Carlos, and their involvement in the foundation where the money was being laundered.
  • Victoria saw this on the news and called Roberto. The video had ended so she told him about it. Both knew that this would impact the firm. Durantes kept on saying that he was just one of Alonso's victims. Alonso denied corruption and said that when he had it all together he is willing to confront Durantes again. At which point Lisabeth ended the segment because they were “out of time.” She did the sign-off and the program ended. Durantes needled Alonso, but he didn't flinch, saying that everyone who is guilty will pay.
  • Alejandra heard about the news broadcast from Paula when she arrived home. She didn't believe it. When Paula told her that the dirty money was laundered through the foundation Alejandra wouldn't believe it. She refused to believe that Carlos was in any way responsible for this. Paula told her not to put her hands in the fire over that, but she was stubborn. She picked up a tablet to look up the phone number of the TV station.
  • Alonso and Durantes continued the name-calling in the studio, off-camera. It ended with another threat from Durantes which may have been heard by Lisabeth.
  • Obviously, Durantes did this so that the public would no longer trust Vega & Associates. However, his victim act was less than convincing.
  • Natalia had a nightmare about her mother and came running out into the living room. Leonardo calmed her down and picked her up to take her back to bed. Olivia was very impressed.
  • The night nurse lowered the medication in Elena's IV. It was at the doctor's instructions, to see how she reacted. After she left Ricardo talked to Elena, telling her she had always been strong and she will get well because their children needed her.
  • Alejandra called up the braodcast on the tablet and watched it in disbelief.
The doorbell rang and it was Carlos, feigning shock and claiming that he thought Benjamín was trustworthy. Paula was not ready to believe him.
  • Olivia poured a fresh cup of tea for Leonardo as he came out of Natalia's room. She told him he always knew the right thing to say to make people feel better. He claimed not to be an expert on children, then wondered what he could say to make her feel better about being with him. A little more in this vein and they kissed.
Words are useful things. They can be reassuring, like the words between a parent and child, things to hide behind for lovers who can't take the plunge, or deadly weapons between enemies. They can also lead to libel suits and political warfare. We may see some of that. Until next we meet Behind Mansion Walls, I'm Christopher Mason.

Whoa, a lot of sturm und drang in this one, Urban. But by far the best part of the recap was your prologue, side comments and wrap-up paragraph. So true that words are powerful, both as weapons but also as great sources of comfort.

Of course, actions are powerful as well. I wonder if men know how magnetic kindness to children (or animals) is to most women. Not surprised that our maternal Oli is falling all over again, fast and furious. I think biologically we are programmed to be attracted to males who seen protective of offspring. Can't see Carlos in that mode at all. Although I still have to admit I find Ricardo's overenthusiastic coddling of his kids a bit off-putting.

Well, our good Alonso is in danger...both in terms of reputation and in terms of his life. Looks like we're heading for a couple of cliffhangers as this first season wraps up.

Thoroughly enjoyed the recap and another one of Christoper's colorful outfits and witty comments. Thanks for all you do UA.

Awesome! Loved the MacBeth reference. Thank you so much!

You're welcome, Judy. It feels good to be appreciated.

Carlos definitely picked the right specialty because he clearly doesn't give a flying damn about children. He took Elena's case to get revenge on Ricardo and when he finds out about Elena's accident and condition will do whatever it takes to prevent Ricardo from getting even temporary custody of Fede and Nati. They are likely to end up as wards of the state because Elena seems to have no blood relatives unless a sensible judge hears the case.

Is that too much to ask?

Blue Lass, thanks. I keep wondering why Alejandra has been such a coward about relationships. She isn't a teen or a college student anymore. When she found out about the hooker she ended the relationship by returning all the wedding gifts. She caved to Alan's demand that she not leave Carlos without hope. She has been paying for that ever since. That Elena causes her grief doesn't help.

Hope not Steve. I like the character of Alonso.

Thanks UA. Screenshots are great, love them.

I hope Elena doesn't make it to the other side because that's all we need for Brick and Ale to take their pettiness to the next level. Also hoping she doesn't wake up blind or paralyzed or even much worse with amnesia. Ain't no body got time for that.

I guess I'm the only one who can't stand Oli and Leo.

What in the name of all that's holy were the writers (or Director) thinking of when they had Leo pick up that huge, preteen in his arms? Can you say inappropriate?? Come on! A five-year-old is too big to be picked up like that, much less an eleven-year-old! You WALK her back to her room, genius! She looks almost his size in that screenshot. Really, people? Really?

I don't think Alonso will bite the dust, I think Gustavo will bite the dust and Alonso will blame himself (rightly) for Gustavo's death, because he refused to take precautions to ensure the safety of his team.

Alonso mentioned having children; I'm not sure if he mentioned how many. I'm going to guess Alonso probably has 2 sons and a daughter and Ricardo, Roberto and Victoria are Alonso's replacement children.

Alejandra is just stupid. Even Paula was giving her the side eye like "You are really dumb, for real." At this point, Alejandra just needs to go back to Carlos and marry him. It's what she deserves.

Carlos will probably engineer getting the kids taken away from Ricardo by child services and Ricardo will go back to Elena to prevent that, because Elena's not going to be able to take care of those kids by herself while she is recovering.

Leticia still isn't taking responsibility for her role in the affair, saying well Benjamin was the one who was married to Karina, not her. And this is true. Leticia had no obligation to be loyal to Karina (just like Melina had no obligation to be loyal to Isabel). But at the same time, Karina has no obligation to let Leticia off the hook, because Leticia participated in a conspiracy of lies, betrayals and diversion of resources from Karina's household.

Leticia is just going to have to take that L and live with the shame and scorn she brought upon herself and if she doesn't like it, quit Vega & Associates and go away for a fresh start. And close her legs to married men /housewivesrealityshow

Benjamin is another one who refuses to take responsibility for his actions, from the tantrums & threats he threw when Alonso fired him. This fool really thought Karina and Alonso wouldn't kick him to the curb? Really? But Karina is asking for too much and Alonso is being unfair. Boy bye. Benjamin will probably end up cellmates with the guy he laughed at in the beginning of the show. That dude probably won't miss this time. Take that L.

Thanks, Urban. You have the Christopher Mason bit down so well, it is amazing!

"Since Elena and Ricardo were divorced at least a year ago, there is no justifiable reason for Alejandra to keep her distance.... except for what Carlos would make of this." ITA!! I am so done with Alejandra I could care less if she agrees to marry Carlos at this point. ITA with Anon207 it is exactly what she deserves.

Benjamin is the one most in denial here. In addition he treated Karina like crap at the birthday party on the day Gustavo's sex life was exposed on a DVD sent by Milena. This should have scared the living daylights out of him.

He is also delusional about other social rules, like needing to be a team player. Leticia could fake it when she had to; he didn't even try. He was never a team player and g staff meetingsI'm sure that when Ricardo called him on the carpet for that in an early episode that wasn't the first time. He also laughed at other lawyers' cases during staff meetings. That was why he was never made partner.

I agree that Ricardo, Roberto, and Victoria are Alonso's replacement children.

Alejandra is being stupid about Carlos. Didn't she once warn him about getting involved with El Ciego? Is she incapable of seeing this connexion?

I don't think Karina is demanding too much. She put up with his sorry butt too long. She should get the house, child support until her son graduates college, and alimony for at least the next five years. Although his finances will now be under investigation, so that will be hard.

Thanks, Urban. Great recap and screenshots.

Uni did it again, compressing episodes. On the TV broadcast, El Ciego is ticked about Benji and the foundation being exposed. With his henchman, he apparently rushed Carlos out of his house (Carlos wasn't wearing a suit jacket and was carrying his tie in his hand) and forces him to look in an industrial drum (barrel?) and says that's what happens to folks who cross us. Carlos looks shocked and ill seeing and smelling bloody goo. I hesitate to say what else happened last night because I'm foggy on some things that were in the episode and others in the preview, but the episode did not end with Leo kissing Oli.

I'm convinced the writers are somehow unaware that the kids are 10 and 13 and not 5 and 7. At 13, Fedi is about old enough to visit his mom in the hospital.

Alonso also told Benjamin he was never at the other lawyers' level as he fired him. That's going to leave a burn on Benjamin's a$$ and Benjamin is going to make Alonso pay for that statement.

That being said, if Benjamin thinks he's so great as a lawyer and should be running things, now is a perfect time to put that to the test. Go open up Acosta and Associates since you are so great.

Leticia looked scared/concerned when Alonso announced in the subsequent staff meeting that Benjamin was fired. Leticia's only saving grace at Vega & Associates is that she is a good (research) lawyer. She just needs to lay low and do her work competently and she should be fine, especially if the other lady lawyers don't shun her for what she did.

Fun facts: El Gato's name is Nestor, and El Ciego told Durantes that "they call me the blind man because I work in the dark." (Which doesn't really make any sense, but why start now?)

Oh, crap! WTF? This makes me so sick.

What else did they add from #80 and why did nobody tell me this morning?

Urban, thank you for another superb recap. Wonderfully fitting title, amazing analysis and, as always, absolutely fantastic screen grabs (I especially loved the one of Benjy grabbing Leticia)
I must admit that yet again I failed to find the theme of the episode and was ashamed of myself when it became so obvious after reading the recap.
Loved your conclusion: "Words are useful things. They can be reassuring, like the words between a parent and child, things to hide behind for lovers who can't take the plunge, or deadly weapons between enemies." So true!

"I still have to admit I find Ricardo's overenthusiastic coddling of his kids a bit off-putting" . JudyB, I love your very fitting description of Ric's relationship with his "babies", although I personally find him not just a bit off-putting but nauseatingly cloying and overbearing. All that sugary sweetness makes me want to gag.

Anon 10:13, you totally read my mind about Leo carrying a preteen girl like a toddler. It was ridiculous beyond belief.
Thank God this telenovela is heading towards the finishing line, because I am running out of barf bag.

Ava, you are not the only one who can't stand Leo and Oli. I personally never liked Oli's sanctimonious and bland character and her obsession with Leo. I like Leo as a character, but his sudden, out of the blue love for Oli is not believable and his attempts to win her over by carrying a prepubescent girl to bed is ludicrous.

I will probably be pelted by virtual rotten tomatoes, but (save Victoria) the only relatable and believable character in this telenovela is actually Leticia. She is not a goody two shoes and is unapologetic about it, makes very bad choices sometimes like any normal person, is ambitious and loves money, tells it the way it is, is unafraid to say what she thinks and doesn't care what the others think about her. She is not self-righteous and doesn't suffer from false politeness, like the rest of the Vega crew and I will be sad to see her go.

Irene

How was Nuria able to take the son out of the country without Daniela's consent? She was paying child support. This won't end well for the child.

Imagine if Ricardo and Elena put aside their differences and get together again? It kind of seemed to me that Ricardo seemed to feel a little more for Elena than just worry for her life and the kids. Unless that was just guilt, maybe I'm seeing more than there is. But why couldn't Alejandra be supportive of Ricardo by being there with him? The phone call she made to support him seemed to be more about her than him.

Ditto on Paula looking at Carlos and Alejandra like they're retarded. Seriously though, Alejandra acts like a teenager, getting all this supportive relationship advice from both her parents, as if she had never dated anyone before, or doesn't have a logical brain to sort her problems out, despite being some impressive lawyer. I can't take her seriously. Her parents coddle her too much. I guess some parents are as supportive, but I actually find their parenting a little too much for her age.

I saw the scene of Carlos being taken to a barrel of human remains possibly decomposed by acid.

Someone yesterday mentioned that Natalia looked like she was already developing into a teen. Girls these days start to develop as early as 8, and get their periods at 11. It's happened in my family. Sometimes physical biology doesn't match brain development, especially if you add the social upbringing.

Ava, you're not the only one on Leo and Olivia. I couldn't stand Olivia at all since the beginning. And Leo turned unbearable to watch. FFWD.

Anon1146

I remember the following from the latter half of the episode (and it's REAL obvious they are cutting and splicing and dicing):

Elena woke up; the investigators wanted to talk to her and Ricardo said he was her lawyer. I think the investigators wanted blood and urine samples from Elena and she said she would speak to them.

Jaime went to Jacinto and was pissed that Alejandra's name got dragged into it. I think he quit as Jacinto's lawyer.

Alonso called Benjamin into the office and fired him. He also told him when the investigators come he would give them all the information they need on Benjamin. Benjamin whined about all the money he brought to the firm and told Alonso to think carefully about firing him. Benjamin was resisting leaving and Alonso told him get out or he'd get security to put Benjamin out. Alonso told Benjamin he was never at the same level as the other lawyers, good bye and get to steppin' as Benjamin left.

They had another staff meeting where Alonso announced Benjamin was fired (Leticia looked shocked and scared and said NOTHING during this meeting). Alonso demanded to know from Alejandra & Victoria what was going on. Gustavo & Ricardo asked Alonso for more security and he said no. They said just to put a couple of extra security men out in the lobby; Alonso said he'd take care of it (but you know he won't). Alonso told them to audit their cases from top to bottom because the investigators would be looking for any little thing.

All the media was demanding a statement from Vega & Associates from Carmen. Carlos showed up and gave a statement to the media. He told them he didn't know nothing and Alejandra had nothing to do with it. He met with Alonso and told him the same thing.

Alonso showed up with the rest of the lawyers and told the media he had fired Benjamin and he runs an ethical firm and would be cooperating with the authorities. Victoria & Alejandra told the media they had nothing to do with money laundering and their only involvement with the foundation was drawing up the incorporation papers; they did not handle anything financial and they would also be cooperating fully with the authorities.

That should be Gustavo and ROBERTO asked Alonso for more security, since Ricardo is at Elena's beside in the hospital.

And I do think Ricardo loves Elena and he would still be with her and be content and happy with her had she not cheated on him.

Leticia definitely has some some good qualities. When she's one on one with Elena, she's given her BFF good advice (move on, stop fighting with Ric over the kids, let's go out and meet some new men, etc.), but when she was with her colleagues at the firm she'd gloat at Ric's misfortunes and stick pins in him. Well, now Leticia better worry if the Feds are going to trace the dirty money Benji put in her bank account. "How much did you know and when did you know it?")

Thanks, Anon207.

I also didn't like seeing Leo pick up Nati as though she were five, although sometimes I think she is five years old emotionally. This could be cultural bias on my part, but if someone in the US did this I'd be completely creeped out. If Carlos saw that he would make something really vile out of it.

Ricardo needs to stop blaming himself for this accident because Elena could use that against him.

Elena also lied about having cheated on him. Had she been honest about it at the time and talked it out this may have worked. I would really hate to see them get back together because that gives this worthless woman what she wants.

Urban, I didn't even think about how inappropriate it was for Leo to pick up an almost teenager like this (I was totally engrossed in how ridiculous it was), but you are totally right, it's super creepy and thank goodness Carlos wasn't there to see it.

Niecie, I don't see Leticia not agreeing with Brick and taking Elena's side as gloating at Brick's troubles. She genuinely is Elena's friend and sympathizes with her and not with Brick. I actually was very pissed off when the entire office bullied her for defending her friend and not taking Brick's side.
But, yes, she made a really big mistake in taking that money from Benjy and might even go to prison for her stupidity and greed, even though I am not sure she actually knows that it came from money laundering. Maybe I missed something, but it seems to me that Benjy never said to her that he is laundering the money and her assumption is that he just took on some wealthy clients without reporting to Alonso.

Irene

Thanks Urban for covering what was not broadcast. It always adds the richness these productions really deserve and of late regularly get robbed. I wonder if Televisa actually knows their tns are getting cut like this.

Thanks to the collaborative effort to bring the missing parts of the next chapter to light. In these cases, more is better.

Don't forget, folks, Leticia got a CAR out of Benji's ill-gotten gains. That won't be too hard to trace. I can't remember if he bought the car and just gave it to her, or whether he had it registered in her name. In any case, that should come to light. She made a big mistake, pinning her future on money and a jerk and not legitimate work and a good salary--attorneys can earn a decent living (except the poor public defenders, as I recall).

The entire office knows that Elena cheated on Rick, that's why they're taking Rick's side over Elena's. The office tends not to side with cheaters. They didn't side with Gustavo and Alonso personally pledged his and the office's support to Karina. Even though they were sympathetic to Gustavo, they let him know that he was wrong and had to accept the consequences of his actions.

Further, everyone in the firm knows how much Rick loves Fede & Natalia and all of them (including Leticia) know he would never harm them and the only reason Elena slapped a restraining order on him was because she's upset he doesn't want her anymore.

Leticia is going to learn a lesson very soon that when you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas, and nobody is going to feel very sorry for her.

The only thing we saw about Benjamin's purchase of the car was when he handed the keys to her. I don't remember anything having been said about it being in her name or his.

The bank account transfer will be very damning.

Anon207: Personally, I hope Leticia dies a very BIGLY violent death! The sooner , the better & GOOD RIDDANCE if that happens.

UA: Elena just needs to flat out DIE. Hurry up already! On Benny: he's involved with money laundering ? I wouldn't be shocked if he's also involved in illegal criminal activities as well.

Steve, I don't wish a violent death or death period on Leticia. As Alejandra told her by the elevator bank, she's pretty, she's smart, she's capable. She has everything a single man would want, so why waste it on a married man?

However, Leticia is going to have to pay the price for getting involved with a married man, and that price will probably be losing her job, losing her law license and possibly losing her freedom because of the bank transfer.

A character (Alonso?) may have mentioned this last night, but if you're cheating in one area of your life, you're bound to be cheating in another. Leticia should not be surprised when Benjamin's crimes get her caught up, too. If she wants to save herself, she needs to go to Alonso NOW and tell him about the bank transfer and the car.

Otherwise, she will be occupying a cell next to Melina at the Reclusorio Sur.

Irene, I get Leticia's loyalty to her friend, and she's got a right to have her own opinion and not be in lockstep with the rest of Vega on personal matters.

But Leticia had a big ole grin on her face when the police handed Ric a restraining order to block him from seeing his kids at all. Knowing that Ric loves the kids and vice versa and that he has never abused them or Elena, that grin was just plain mean. One thing she and Benji had in common was gloating at other folks' pain. Interesting that Leticia, to our knowledge, never told Elena that she (Leticia) was getting it on with an actively married man with child, while her friend was up in arms over her ex dating.

I don't want to see Leticia in prison. Initially, she did warn Benji about taking that client off the books. I don't remember whether she warned him about the money laundering, but she's smart enough to know the sudden gifts of the car, expensive watch/necklace(?), the bank transfer were somehow shady. Anyhoo, the wardrobe department definitelys loves her cause her clothes are always becoming to her. So if she gets locked up, I can see her in form-fitting prison khaki.

Anon207, while I agree that Leticia might ultimately lose her freedom because of the bank transfer (even though she thought what Benjy was doing was unethical, not illegal),I honestly doubt she will lose her job and her license just because she was sleeping with a married man. If that were the case, half of the lawyers of the world would have been out of jobsand disbarred. I think Alonso himself said that he doesn't care what they do in their free time, as long as it doesn't affect the bufete, and he is right. No one suggested firing Gustavo, even though his shenanigans with Milena affected the bufete quite a lot, so Leticia shouldn't be fired either.
Benjamin is a different case altogether, he committed a crime and was disloyal towards his workplace and that's why Alonso fired him, not for cheating on his wife.
And yes, it was terribly dumb on her part to sleep with Benji in his office, but she is not the only one of Vega lawyers to disrespect her workplace like that. As far as I can remember, Roberto was about to sleep with some girl in his office (again, with the door open) and didn't do it only because Victoria caught them. It could have easily been a client opening Rob's door, just like Karina opened Benji's.

I am in no way defending Leticia for her behavior, but she definitely does not deserve to be fired for it.
My advice for her would be to just quit and start anew in another law firm, because even if Alonso doesn't fire her, the atmosphere will always be toxic between her and her colleagues (that didn't like her in the first place ) and it's just not worth going through life suffering in the workplace like that.

Niecie, I agree that Leticia's grin was mean, but she is a human being and though hating is uncharitable, it's a natural human reaction that happens to the best of us. I am sure there is not a single person on this patio that never hated, or at least disliked, a colleague. It happens whether we want it or not and Leticia is just like the rest of us.

I have to say that I actually like the fact that at least some of the lawyers at Vega are somewhat humanized, it's a pity that they are portrayed as almost villains instead of just common people, with their defaults.

I can even understand Benjamin's behavior to some extent. He keeps saying that he brings the most money into the practice but is not appreciated. And I think he is not appreciated because he is not like the other lawyers in that he is not a team player and doesn't want to be all budy budy with Rick, Rob and Leo. In Alonso's firm, such behavior is not acceptable, even though there is nothing wrong with it as long as the firm keeps benefiting from the fact that he brings the money. He shouldn't have associated with such a firm in the first place and should have quit long ago, but I can somehow understand Benji's frustration at being penalized and not being made partner just because he is not like the others, even though his work was good and he was the one bringing the bacon that kept the firm afloat when the others were playing knights in shining armor with all those pro bono cases.

I also don't think Katrina is asking for to much. Hes a lodown dirty sneaky cheat. I remember how he laughed at gus, I knew his was comin, And it was sweet and letty displayed her cockiness to. But she seems more
Remorseful. That old sayin the Old folks used to say"A hard head makes a soft behind"? Look out Benny the anvil
Is comin.

Thank you Urban, you and Mr mason are a good team.

I actually wonder whether the risk of discovery wasn't part of the thrill. Leticia definitely treated this all as a game at least for a while.

I do agree with Alejandra in that she is capable, beautiful, and should definitely be able to land a single man worthy of that. However, she is going to have to pay for her sins and I'm not even talking about the adultery but the complicity in Benjamin's outside activities. If she is smart she'll leave Vega and go somewhere else, preferably another city, to start over.

Or another country. Spain, Australia.
She has got herself in a hot mess.
