Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia, Capitulo 39, Tuesday, October 30, 2018; “Nothing but Chaos”

We open with Yela telling Julieta that David’s father is a very bad person who is in prison, but is ready to get out. She tells Julieta that he is in prison because he once kidnapped David from her when he was very small. Now he is ready to look for David again, she tells Julieta tearfully. Julieta asks her what her real reason is for coming because last time she was there, she asked for money and then took off with David. Dave comes in to say goodbye to Yela and wants to know if she is coming to his birthday party. Then he asks about his bio father, so Julieta says he has gone far away and no one knows where he is.

Susana knocks on the door, sees David and says, “Oh I didn’t know your children were here.” Julieta explains there was a problem at her mother in law’s house…and Susana realizes it was the problem with her mother. Then she reminds Julieta that she must personally pay that penalty for the cloth order error by tomorrow. David says to Susana (and he called her Susana) to say hello to Sebas for him. She leaves to go pick up Sebas at school.

Robert talks with the lawyer who advises him that if Crisanta finds out that Imelda was the one who faked Canuto’s death, then she could lose everything.

Vicente comes in to see Robert, and the lawyer leaves. Vicente tells him he is going to go back to Africa, but would like to have dinner with him and Julieta before he leaves. Robert lets him know that the foundation is still in trouble. Vicente says he would like to stay around more but the people in Africa need him to go back

Hugo and Catalina are told by an inspector that they cannot sell anything without a permit. They each scratch their heads thinking about “what permits?”

Tulio tells Imelda that if the authorities find out that she faked Canuto’s death, then she could end up in prison and Crisanta could end up with everything and blackmail them as well.

Looks like Daniela has moved out and moved into her parents’ apartment building. She’s crying, Linda tried to comfort her. When Dani walks out of the room, Linda tries to call Gabriel.

Susana goes to pick up Sebas from school and runs into Pancho. She tells him she is so embarrassed about her mother trying to move in with him. Pancho pretty much says it’s okay, that it’s probably just for a few days and he will take care of her. Susana also thanks him for putting up with her mother and for all the things he has done to help their family. Susana mentions that they have a pending talk about what happened to Rebeca (she whispers).  Pancho mentions about doing the dance thing together, but she remembers how sad she was last time so she says since her mother isn’t around right now to take care of Sebas, then they need to postpone that outing.

Outside the school, a crowd of kids and a few adults have gathered around Hugo’s food cart and the inspector won’t let them serve anyone without a permit.  Diana comes out to see what is going on.The inspector says that Hugo was closed down in another business because his cookies poisoned people. Catalina points to Susana and blames her for the whole thing. Then Susana steps up and says withdrew the complaint against Hugo. Finally, Hugo says he never applied for a permit. The inspector yellow tapes that cart and declares the business as CLOSED. [Well there goes the money that he is supposed to repay Julieta and Robert back with.]

Ari wants him and his friends including Temo to get ear piercings, but Temo says his dad doesn’t allow that sort of stuff.

Audifáz is at this religious building where people are heard saying “Praise him, praise him, praise the Lord!” He watches the people coming in singing and clapping. The pastor comes in and asks Audi his name and wants to know why he is there. Audifáz shows him the flyer and says he wants answer to know why he exists in this life. He know that his life exists for a reason. The pastor answers, “You have come to the right place.” They start to sing praises to the Lord again.

Later we see him addressing the congregation as they listen with his life story of how he has felt so lost all his life and felt no one has wanted to listen to him. He feels like he has been living a life deceived and most of all wants to lead his family and for them to come out ahead. The pastor thanks him for his testimony and tells him his most important guide will be the Word of God. The pastor asks him to close his eyes. Then the congregation comes to lay hands on him and pray.

Imelda has placed her own yellow tape around the entrance door to their apartments. Tulio warns her to not get Crisanta upset and provoke because it will make more trouble for them. But Imelda insists that she will not be allowing Crisanta to come back in. And she is holding a fire extinguisher too! Imelda exclaims that Crisanta will never put one foot in the door and thus discover her secrets.  “What secrets?” Eugenio asks Blanca. But then, Julieta comes walking up with the children and wants to know what this is all about. Blanca explains what Imelda is doing and Imelda says she is not afraid to use that fire extinguisher against Crisanta. Julieta’s phone rings and it’s Catalina crying about what happened, blaming Susana. The sun, moon, and stars have abandoned Catalina once again!

Now Crisanta comes walking up to the building and she wants to come in. There is a commotion with Imelda. Julieta tells her not to do anything in front of the children. Then Robert comes walking up to see what is going on. And sees the arguing going on between the two Señoras. He quickly talks to Julieta who briefly tells him of her meeting with Yela and how Dave’s bio father is in prison, ready to get out and will be looking for David. He is a very dangerous man. As the viejitas (old women) continue their arguing, Imelda lifts up the fire extinguisher to try to spray Crisanta. Both Robert and Pancho run over to her and fight over the fire extinguisher. Pretty soon they set it off and everyone gets sprayed with the white substance, most likely potassium bicarbonate. It looks like a slapstick comedy. [All we need are the pies with whipped cream.] Robert and Pancho start yelling at each other  and Blanca tells them to put a lid on it because they are acting like children. Eugenio calls for family unity, but Imelda wants war. They begin to argue again and the men have to hold each woman back. Finally, Pancho lets Crisanta in. Then everyone starts to go inside. Julieta leaves the children with Blanca while she tries to talk with Robert.

Then Ari comes up to Julieta and says he needs their assistance with something. Robert and Julieta think he wants to talk to them about being gay, but it’s not about that. Robert and Julieta tell him that he should come over to their house so that they can all have dinner together, the 3 of them or the 4 of them. Ari is a bit confused, so he says “the three of them.” Then he says that he wants to start up with therapy with Octavio again. He mentions how he wants to get an ear piercing and asks Julieta if there is any problem with his wearing an earring for the catalog photos.  Julieta assures him there is no problem. After he leaves, Julieta brings up about David’s birthday and is upset about David wanting to be with his bio parents more than them. She mentions how David hugged Yela and looked like he truly loved her with all his heart. Robert tries to reassure her about her love for David and how everything will be okay. Julieta says she will relax just for them.

However, Julieta has more bad news. She tells Robert how someone from the bank came to her office and that they are in danger of losing their home. He reassures her that will not happen, Vicente invited them to have dinner with them and he believes that Vicente is going to do something to help. [I’m thinking now that Robert hasn’t been paid because the foundation’s funds are so low?]

At Pancho’s place, he brings Crisanta in to sit down. Frida comes in with Lupe and then Pancho wants to know why they are receiving packages. He has Frida hand it over opens it and find the sunglasses. Frida tells him they ordered it on the internet. Pancho says, “With what credit card?” Frida lies and says her uncle Gabriel did it for her because she and Lupe want to take selfies together. Later they all have dinner together. She tells the children to think of her as though she was their grandmother.

Over at Susana’s place, they have dinner. Axel offers to pay Susana for her bailing him out, but she says it is not necessary.  Then Sebas wants to know where his grandmother is. He cries and wants to know if she has gone to where his grandfather has gone. Susana assures him that she has not, she is only staying with a friend. Susana embraces Sebas.  They talk about fun and humorous times regarding Canuto.

Enzo picks up Amalia from the dress shop and he asks her what she wants to eat. She says she is going to eat very little. Just a bowl of vegetable soup and a saltine cracker. Enzo says that he doesn’t want her to start in on the dieting again. He’s happy with her as she is a “gordita” (affectionately, chubby girl). But she does not want to be a “gordita”. He tries to explain that it’s affection, but meanwhile, a slim girl walks in the store and he looks at her.

Dinner at the Corsegas has the family present. David mentions his birthday party and says that he wants Sebas to come. Imelda says she doesn’t want him to come but Robert says that David will have his friend over. They talk about the location of the party and what they will eat. David says his mother used to make tacos from “tripa” (tripe) and pansa (cow stomach, it’s what menudo is made of.) Linda makes a face thinks it’s gross. Frida also loses her appetite. Daniela looks very sad and we see her tears.

Clarisa goes over to Gabriel’s, is trying to get Gabe going. She is very worried about him because of what happened with their mother.. Gabe says all he wants to do is sleep and doesn’t have any energy for anything. He says what he is suffering is much stronger than he is. Daniela is listening to him on the other side of the door and is in tears. Clarisa gives Gabe a hug.

Thank you, Cynthia for the excellent recap of a very entertaining episode. Yes, we did need some whipped cream pies to finish off the slap stick. I loved it. You made another good point about Robert perhaps getting paid through the foundation and that is why they do not have as much money as we might think. I also liked your comment about the loan repayment disappearing with the hotdog business. Really? No permits. Somebody, was it Julieta ? reminded Hugo about getting the permits. I have no patience for him.

Poor Crisanta again! Everyone helped Imelda and the others remove the fire retardant but nobody helped Crisanta and she didn't even start it.

I always get a kick out of the twins calling Pancho "PaPancho".

Poor Daniela sure got an earful.

The party promises to be interesting. I wonder if Yela will really come.

More non-stop crises I see. "Nothing but Chaos" is right, Cynthia! Thanks so much for doing this. Glad that Crisanta has a friend in Pancho. And in our list of PSA's did we have one on the dangers of extreme dieting out of fear of losing someone's love? Certainly sounds like it's going to be an issue.

Cynthia, thank you for the marvelous recap. As Judy mentioned "Nothing but Chaos" could not have been more appropriate. Screen shots - incredible.

I thought there were several poignant, rather soberting events last night.

"He says what he is suffering is much stronger than he is" brought a lump to my throat. Depression is crippling and crushing. What makes it even more insidious is that those that love the person affected are virtually rendered powerless. They can support and care but in some cases, even those strong emotions can't penetrate the wall of hopelessness. Not to mention how it devastates the family as Dani and Clarissa are proving.

I enjoyed the "fire extinguisher" hosing. A bit of levity.

And even though Catalina and her big baby Hugo are frustrating, I enjoyed the crowd rally to "release the hot dogs". As you pointed out Jarifa, Hugo just doesn't get it. Whatever does Diana see??

I could not for the life of me understand what Ari was proposing. Earrings, huh? Not much Audi can say as he is sporting those two little min-buns that are beyond annoying. I can't figure out what will happen with him. He has no money so the "church" can't fleece him. Could this really just be a supportive, healing group of people?

"Then she reminds Julieta that she must personally pay that penalty for the cloth order error by tomorrow".

And Julieta. Her face mirroring a mixture of pain and strength as she deals with Yela. I'm sorry but as was pointed out yesterday, she abandoned her son as she didn't want to be bothered with his treatment. In this particular case, I have little sympathy. While having birth and adoptive parents works out well in some cases (Robert), I have little hope for this extended "family". And now of course the threat of David's father reappearing is grim.

I just love Diana Bracho. Every actor is fairly flawless here but she and Daniel Arenas are the heart of this TN.

And you and Jarifa are our inspirations here Cynthia. Thank you for another fine, fine outing.

Diana

I didn't finish my thought on the quote about Susana reminding Julieta about her debt.

I think we can now sense Susana's mood by how tight her curls and her dress is. When her garb is more relaxed and flowing, she seems to be as well.

Well, she wasn't nasty when she said it so her overall tone is improving. At least.

Diana

Judy B, I will have to add your diet suggestion to the PSA list.

"Oh noes!"...the list truly is getting longer!

I wonder how long it will be by the end considering how quickly they are popping up. 🤔🎃

Thank you, Cynthia, for the splendid recap and exceptional screenshots.

The Crisanta-Imelda feud really needs to end. Has Imelda forgotten that she has a heart condition?? What would be really funny is if they end up BFFs by the end and they both throw Canuto's ashes out to sea.

Diana, "here were several poignant, rather sobering events last night" yes there were. Seeing Gabe at his worst or anyone with severe depression can take a toll on the people who care about them. It becomes frustrating because whatever they do or say doesn't seem to mean anything to the depressed person. Gabe is the only one who can take himself out of that dug he has dug for himself with some professional help. Tavo is a psychiatrist, why hasn't he been called?? And what happened to Daphne...she was a psychologist???

Ari wanted the team to have earrings as something that would distinguish them as a team...isn't that what the uniforms are for?? Anyway his advice to Temo about "asking for forgiveness is better than asking for permission" wasn't very good...so is he being a bad influence on Temo?

Diana, I have no pity for Yela either. and now that we know that his father is about to get out of prison, I fear for David. Yela said that that father knew influential people; I'm just wondering what kind of influential people he knows..the political kind and/or the criminal kind?

And about Susana's curls...I was totally distracted with that one curl on the right side that was dangling and hanging lower than the rest!!

Thanks everyone!

RGV Chick: I love your idea about Imelda and Crisanta becomng BFFs and throwing the ashes out to the sea at the end. Now that I would love to see. :) You are so right to about that Ari might be a bad influence on Temo with that quote that asking for forgiveness is better than asking for permission. That doesn't sound very repentant to me!

Have a very Happy Halloween everyone!

Cynthia, thank you for this fine recap. And thank you for using the terms "bio father" and "bio parents" rather than "real" parents. Julieta should use "bio" rather than "real", because it would help them all understand that David's adoptive parents are now his real parents.

Poor Audifaz! Diana, yeah, let's hope that this is just "a supportive, healing group of people."

The cost of medical care keeps coming up in Mexican TNs. It can be a problem in most parts of the world, including here in the US, but it often seems to be a minor theme in these TNs.

Hugo really can be very childish, while Diana has it together. Well, we can play pop psychologist to our hearts' content with these TNs, and I sometimes wonder if Teacher Diana is drawn to kids, even to the point of marrying one. Maybe she just likes being the mature and responsible one, and her appearance does somewhat strike me as a bit strict or severe, though only sometimes. Anyway, Hugo is lucky because a lot of other women would have kicked him to the curb a long time ago.

"Ari wanted the team to have earrings as something that would distinguish them as a team...isn't that what the uniforms are for??" HA RgvChick! So true! :)

And ITA wiht you and Cynthia that Ari's advice on asking for forgivensss after the fact was very unwise. I have seen several examples of that happening in real life and things did not go well.

I'm not quite sure though that Temo didn't agree because of his father. I don't think he wanted to do the ear piercing. Maybe because he felt he would be taunted further and/or wasn't up to "bonding" with his team mates.

Diana

At least now we know why the holy righteous Imelda hasn't said a peep to Crisanta or tried to take anything away from the second Corcegas. It's uncharacteristic of her. Also, not only is the faked death certificate a problem, but also the paid for empty tomb. Tulio brought up the second point to Imelda before she began sweating.

Maybe Yela actually needed family counseling prior to giving up David. She was going through several traumatic things at once, and it makes sense that some people automatically opt for the easy way out at first. She needed more time to think over the reality that she was abandoning her son. Maybe Juls and Rob are going to end up letting Dave go home...

"Maybe Juls and Rob are going to end up letting Dave go home..."

Dave is home. Home is where the heart is and where love flourishes, free of brualizing and pain.

With all due respect, no one should abandon their child when the child needs them the most.

I have compassion for almost all. None for Yela.

Diana

No parent should abandon their child. But they should be counseled on the issue. Yela needed psychiatric help. The husband stole Dave, then ended up in jail because she reported him. So she had no child support from there. Then Dave gets burned, she sees that his treatments could end up being very costly and possibly for life? She got frustrated. Then there was Juls desperate to adopt the child too. Too many things were happening for Yela at the time, and she acted in a bad way. But anyone can make huge mistakes at any time.

If Dave still loves his biological mother, there's a reason. Children are quick to see when someone isn't affectionate with them. He wants her back in his life for a reason.

Thank you for your recap, Cynthia!

Still shaking my head over R&J loaning money to Hugo while their own house payment is two months in arrears!

If Imelda is in jail for fraud, how could Crisanta blackmail her? Beanie hat moment?!?

AndyBanda - Spot on with the bio- vs real parent!

RgvChick - I love your idea about the two old bats becoming BFFS and tossing Cowardo's ashes into the ocean.

Amalia's current storyline is very similar to one of the characters in Kristan Higgins' latest book Good Luck With That. An excellent read (contemporary women's fiction) in which one of the women ruined her marriage because she could. not. believe. her. husband. loved. her. the way she was. And he adored her. The book has been well received and I'll bet it was thoroughly researched. It was quite educational for me.

Awful to see Gabe so depressed. We know someone who recently was so depressed that he could not see any way out other than suicide. He had legal problems, lost his job, a drinking problem long before the other problems began, wife divorced him., etc., He just could not and WOULD NOT help himself. He always was a big of a jerk, yet everyone tried hard to help him and support him, all the while could not see any other solution, so he killed himself. He had threatened for years. We feel so badly for his children. Sometimes depression is bigger than anything and everyone.

Thanks, Cynthia. The title is excellent and you capture the zany, the sad, and the silly.

Earrings, huh? Not much Audi can say as he is sporting those two little min-buns that are beyond annoying.

Diana, thanks for the laugh!

Tavo is a psychiatrist, why hasn't he been called??

Rgv Chick, ITA. It’s tough to watch Gabe this depressed, but also to see his family floundering not knowing what to do. Yes, why doesn’t someone bring Tavo over, or the monks from the monastery he fled to in Season 1?

I have little sympathy for Yela. She’s a negative, soul-sucking person. She knows Dave will get much more nurturing from Julieta and Robert than he’d ever get with her. Every time she pops up it’s because of her need (money in the past, apparently how to avoid Dave’s biopop now), not Dave’s. I've said before, there are lots of adopted folks in my extended family. At some point, some have wanted to connect with their bioparents and done so, but all remained much much closer to their adopted parents.

Niecie, I like the "soul-sucking" description.

Diana, ITA "blood" doesn't necessarily make a family.
