Amar a Muerte, 12/18/2018, Episode 32: Something's Burning

For those who may not have visited a patio for Monday’s episode, Anita posted this comment:
OPEN LETTER TO CARAYCARAY DEVOTEES
A new CarayCaray team is now in place of our departing guru, Jane, aka Melinama. We appreciate from the bottom of our hearts the tireless stewardship of her blog since she started it with Alborada, all those years ago. We want to thank her for letting us take on the job of continuing with and nurturing this blog. We hope we can do it justice.

To note, the storylines, dialog and content of telenovelas have evolved, many in ways which we don't like or approve. The English language has also evolved and what used to be offensive is now part of social content nation-wide. That goes for standard English broadcasts that are populating the cable and the airwaves as well. We who want to, change with the times, or filter out what is objectionable.

We recap and follow telenovelas for the pleasure of being in a community interested in telenovelas, Spanish language and Central and Latin American culture. The Univision and Telemundo products offered, drive the conversations.

If you have noticed that the number of telenovelas recapped, comments and "hits" on each recap is way down from days of yore, it can be assumed it may stem from the availability of closed captions getting better. Plenty of non-Spanish speakers have drifted off. What is left is a community of like-minded spirits who enjoy the conversations after the recap is posted. We hope each one of you are and continue to be one of them.

And now for the TN--

JohnyBStalled is at the gate with Fabricio who wants to talk to him. Fabricio convinces him to wait by telling him that when he had a problem, he would talk it over with Don León, but now that he isn’t  here… Johny lifts his collar and agrees to hear out Fabricio. Meanwhile, in the study, Leon/Chino/Jacobo (LCJ) and Lucía are engrossed in studying their mouths and necks. (Oh Joco, how did you know about that little place on my neck that sends me into OR-BIT?” Um..duh..er lucky guess sweets.”) Fabricio tells Johny about his father is very ill (Johny is probably thinking, “And? Do you think I care?); and he isn’t making enough money and he doesn’t want his father to die. Johny had no idea and gladly agrees to help Fab…and Johny would be ever so grateful if Fab would keep him up-to-date about all the goings-on at the Carvajal house, especially anything having to do with LCJ—what time he leaves, arrives, what he eats (uhmm, Lucía’s tongue right now!), etc… Fabricio agrees.

Johny enters the house and Silvina tells him Lucía is in the study. She offers to go tell Lucía, but Johny insists on going himself. Meanwhile, as LCJ has Lucía heatedly pinned to the desk, he watches as Johny approaches. Lucía notices LCJ is distracted and sees Johny too; she starts to push LCJ away, but he wants to continue (see me, Johny, I got her!!). Lucía manages to push LCJ away and tells him to compose himself. A few seconds pass, and Johny enters as Lucía is powdering her nose. Johny notices that she is acting strange and seems upset (Yeah! You interrupted her dessert!). He goes after her and grabs her wanting to kiss her, but she pushes him away and tells him she is not at all happy with him. As she tells him that she needs to talk to him outside, LCJ crouches behind a piece of furniture. As they walk outside, Lucía tells Johny that Montilla didn’t really tell her anything. She thinks he just wanted to shake her up…Monty told her he has nothing concrete against anyone. Johny stops her and reminds her that he knows her better than anyone and he knows when she lies to him. Lucía replies that he is being paranoid.

Armenta is at his home watching his interview again. He comments about Lucía’s eyes and suggests that she is very much in love…with him! When his assistant remarks that Lucía is somewhat young for him, Armenta snaps back that if Lucía married someone like León, then she is prepared to have a man like him. Armenta can’t stop thinking about her; he likes her spunk and that she is refined. He adds that Lucía just won the lottery…Well, not quite Gramps, suitor #…..?, dang I lost count,  interrupted them.

At the company, Guille watches Mayela’s, aka Patito’s, show on the TV from his office; and Renata and Kayla watch at the cafeteria. Renata thinks Mayela is anorexic, but Kayla insists that she should stop obsessing over Mayela, and set her sights on getting Guille. Just then, Mayela walks up to Renata and Kayla and tells Renata that she wants to talk to her in her dressing room. When Renata tells her she has too much work, Mayela insists it will only take a few minutes…she will talk to Guille for Renata. After she leaves, Renata gobbles her sandwich saying, “I hate her!”…then wonders if Mayela knows that she likes Guille. Kayla wonders if Mayela has some plan to get rid of Renata and suggests that Renata not eat anything Mayela will offer her.  Yeah, like “Oh Patito, let’s be sandwich Sisters, you eat mine and I’ll eat yours.?”   Kayla, you have been watching Tns haven’t you?

Octavio talks to Alicia in her kitchen and tells her about his conversation with Beltino. Beltino didn’t seem to remember anything about their trip to Puerto Vallarta. Just then Alicia receives an invitation for Beltino to an anthropology conference. After Octavio comments that Beltino will be happy, Alicia responds that he would have been happy before…she recalls how excited Beltran was a year ago when he received the same invitation…and how interested he was in promoting anthropology.  She misses that Beltan; she would be mesmerized by his passion for anthropology. When Octavio comments that after the accident Beltino’s personality did  change, Alicia shares that Beltino is very different; it seems that a dark side of him has emerged…it scares her. Octavio has already mentioned that to his wife, Cristina. When Beltino beat him up, he grabbed him and looked at him as if he was crazy…like a murderer. Alicia wonders if Beltino had mentioned anything about the trip to Octavio, but Octavio knew nothing about it…Beltino was just somewhat nervous on his way to the airport and kept his eye on his phone.

In Mayela’s dressing room, Mayela notes what a good relationship Renata has with Guille. Renata agrees that she and Guille have a good “working” relationship. Since Renata is Guille’s right-hand person, Mayela wants Renata to help her organize a birthday party for Guille at his house (birthday is the next day) since Renata has all his contacts. Renata tries to get out of it, but Mayela won’t take no for an answer since all of Guille’s friends have told her that Guille has had it rough lately and he doesn’t even want to go out to the park. Renata considers the proposal.

In San Antonio, Beltino and Barb have arrived—Beltino with a bad headache and nauseated. After Barb tells him to take it like “a man,” Beltino breathes deeply…there’s nothing like the clean air in his land!

Vale and her old bestie are in her room changing and dancing when Lucho comes in. Vale tries to push him out, but he pushes her onto the bed and they go at it while the friend leaves the room.  (Amateurs compared to Lucia and LCJ!)

At the airport, Beltino and Barb are munching when Fabian passes by. Beltino stops him and wishes him luck with the criminal he is after. After Fabian walks away, Beltino laughs and tells Barb that the slime will never find him.  Yeppers you have a very…...elaborate, disguise, should we say?

Outside the Carvajal home, Tiberio watches as Guille plays with Max, the dog. After Tiberio points out that Max allows LCJ to play with him, Guille is surprised since Max only played with him and his father. He asks for LCJ, so Tiberio tells him LCJ is probably in the house.  But we heard he was busy.
LCJ is in the kitchen when Guille comes in to ask if he knows about cars; his car is making a noise. He is embarrassed to ask, but needs help. LCJ tells Guille never to feel embarrassed to ask for help, especially when it comes to women and cars.

Karla is at a restaurant when Ernesto walks in with Monica. Ernesto apologizes for being late, but the lady who was to take care of Monica was running late. Kayla doesn’t seem to be listening since she is so focused on Monica and caressing her face. Monica thanks Karla for the lollipops that were like those that her mother would buy her for behaving well…but her mother died; though she always dreams of her. They all agree to start their lunch with dessert.

Montilla is home in his kitchen and goes to hug his wife who has a weak heart. When she asks how things are going, he tells her about how his morning was wasted with the fire alarm. He then shares how he set a trap for Lucía just to see how she would react. He thinks Lucía is quite strange…and that she may be having a romantic relationship…with her chauffeur!! Cristina wonders what everyone would say about the grand widow of Mexico. When Montilla adds that Lucia is ”the main suspect of her husband’s murder,” Cristina remarks that Lucía is much more ambitious and intelligent than anyone knows. As Montilla gets something to munch on, he tells Cristina that the one who is most dangerous is Eva…she seems to be involved in something tumultuous. Yeah.  A henpecked husband and a boyfriend who kills TVs.

Alacrán is in his shower with Eva-so-tumultuous. He tells her about his idea to be shown on TV as he is right now (eeewww!); he will surely upstage her stepmother. When he adds that he can help be rid of Lucía, Eva tells him she will get rid of her in her own way; she already has a plan.   So Lucia, don’t eat anything she gives you , right Kayla?

At the company, Mateo asks Palomarez about his article, but Palomarez hasn’t had a chance to talk to Eva. Mateo chides him for needing to ask for permission since he is the chief editor, but Palomarez thinks it’s a very sensitive topic. Palomarez truly wants to publish Mateo's article, but Eva keeps avoiding him. It irks Palomarez that Mateo is right; he is going to publish the article…and warns Mateo to prepare for what’s coming. Yes, some sandbags and plywood, because you will have a Cat 5 Eva on your ass when that hits the airwaves.

At the restaurant, Karla sees her former self in a mirror while away from Ernesto and Monica. She feels herself in her Jeraldi body and fears that Ernesto and Monica will see her too. As she starts to leave, Ernesto calls out to her so she slowly turns around as Karla.

Outside the Carvajal house, LCJ is taking a look at Guille’s car motor since Guille knows nothing about cars. Guille starts talking about his father’s love for cars; his father even had an antique car collection that he would work on every Sunday as Guille watched; though Guille doubts that his father even noticed him. Guille misses his father more than he realized, especially during these days. After LCJ questions why these days, Guille replies that tomorrow is his birthday—it was the only day that his father made him feel as if he were the most important person in his life.

At the restaurant, Karla is enjoying her time with Monica and Ernesto. Monica invites her to a dance recital at her school the following week; so Karla gladly accepts.

In San Antonio, Beltino arrives at his old trailer. Barb comments that for someone who claims he has as much money as he says, he sure didn’t live well. (Slap her Beltino or stick a crystal ball in her big mouth) Beltino enters the trailer and sees how it has been ransacked. Barb refuses to sleep in that atrocity…while Beltino seethes.

Vale wakes up in her bed with Lucho beside her. She notices Juls’s missed call and calls her back to apologize for offending her. After she tells Juls that she really likes her and doesn’t want to lose her, Lucho asks who Vale is talking to.   Your competition dude, deal with it.

Renata is in her apartment complaining to Kayla that it irks her that Mayela will win over Guille with the party Renata will plan for Guille. Kayla wants Renata to take her to the party, but Renata realizes that she has no money to buy Guille a present.

Johny is at his home when Fabricio calls him with a report that we are not made privy to.

Karla calls Cami to tell him that she is on her way up to see El Ruso; she is not scared of what they might do to her. She agrees to send Cami her location. If he doesn’t hear from her after two hours, he should go for her.

El Ruso is surprised to see Karla. He tells his men to warm her up before they get rid of her. When Karla tells him that she came to play, El Ruso allows her to come in, but they will not play for money. She will play for her life.

LCJ arrives at Cami’s out and calls out for him. Just then the doorbell rings and...heeeere’s Johny!

Lucía is on her couch thinking of her tryst with LCJ on her desk. As she smiles, Armenta calls her and asks if she has missed him…because he has missed her…MUCHO! After Lucía tells him that she is surprised by his call, Armenta comments about how the media is saying that they are quite close. Lucía doesn’t think he shouldn’t believe everything the media says…it’s often times exaggerated. After they chat about how both of them benefited from the interview, Armenta invites her to dinner to celebrate their success…alone and without such a ruckus. Lucía wants to check her schedule, but Armenta insists that he will call her in a couple of days to set the time and place.   Aw shoot, line up boys. Everybody luuuurves Lucy!

At Cami’s house, Johny wonders if LCJ works there too because it would be odd that he would be living there. Maybe none of yore Bidness boo boo.  When LCJ tells him that he is waiting for Cami, Johny invites himself to sit down and wait also. They can talk while they wait together.  IE: Interrogation

Cami is out driving around looking frantically for the address Karla sent him. Meanwhile, Karla is with El Ruso and his gang at the private game table. Karla hesitates in playing her game since she is playing for her life. Karla wants assurance that if she wins, they will not go looking for her or bother her anymore. El Ruso points out that she is in no position to be setting conditions. He then tells her “sure”, but adds “that will not happen.”

Lupita enters Juls’s bedroom as Juls sits on the bed brooding. She is wondering who decides how and where they are born. Why did they have to be born in the miserable corner in San Antonio? Why did she have to have the father she had? Why is God so generous with some and he gives them nothing? After Lupita responds that some say God has the perfect plan for everyone, she suggest that Juls go to bed…maybe she can think about things.

In Vale’s bedroom, Lucho rags on Vale for the way she has been treating him and wonders what her phone call to Juls was all about; it sounded as if she were talking to him. After he imitates her and tells her she spends all her time with Juls, Vale tells him he can’t understand because he doesn’t have anyone whom he could call a true friend. (Tell him Val) Lucho shouts that they just slept together and wonders if he isn’t enough for her. (Tell him Val, he asked first) Vale laughs that he is jealous. When Lucho continues his rant, Vale throws him out and Lucia hears all the commotion. (Tell him Val, it will shut him up faster than duct tape) Lucia goes out, but then when she sees that Lucho is gone, she goes back into her bedroom and gets her phone…thinking about calling LCJ.

At the card game, Karla plays her last game. As she hesitates to show her cards, one of the goons asks the other if they were sure to check for a weapon; they did. Karla has three 8s and El Ruso shows his full house. Karla is reeeally skeered.

At Cami’s house, LCJ and Johny are engaged in their little chat when LCJ’s phone rings (Lucia calling), but doesn’t answer.

When Johny asks why all the mystery, LCJ replies that they all have something they hide. Johny then suggests that LCJ tell him about himself…does he have family. LCJ counters that maybe Johny should tell LCJ about himself…since LCJ is not very interesting; he is but a simple chauffeur as Johny has indicated previously. After Johny avoids talking about himself and points out that neither of them know much about each other, LCJ assures Johny that he (LCJ) knows quite a bit about him. Johny would like LCJ to tell him what he knows; so LCJ stands and tells Johny that he knows that Johny has dedicated most of his life to getting all of León’s fortune. This gets LCJ a quick jab to his face…

But if you look at it closelyJohny doesnt really strike him LOL

Great recap. Thanks
LCJ, please don't forget to lock the door next time.

RGV Chick: Loved the recap. I went ROFLOL when you mentioned Lucia being pimped out by Gramps..... YIKES!

Let's hope she doesn't get PREGGERS.

Looked like Psychopath Erick Montenegro didn't even punch LCJ from what I can tell.

Well, well, well, Ms. Snappy that was quick. Thank You for an entertaining recap.
Ole Johny on the spot is everywhere! Does he ever sleep or buy groceries or wash his car? He seems to spend about 23 hours a day bird dogging Lucia and LCJ. Hee Hee with good reason it appears. It was funny seeing Lucia frantically trying to get her face put back on when Johny came in, as the majority of it was hiding behind the credenza on Joco's smoochers.

Val just needs to take Lugo off the access list, but, well, he seems to be briefly welcome when she is drinking and if he does not speak. Surprised her little friend skedaddled out of there like she did, knowing Val and her friends.

Oh Please, now Armenta is chasing Lucia too? What is this, I Love Lucy? I'm waiting for Ricky Ricardo to show up. I wonder how our clever little gal will wriggle out of this one. The looks on her face were a riot when he was talking to her on the phone.

And snotty old broad Barb turning up her nose at Beltran's palacial camper. Ha ! What was she expecting? Actually what was he expecting, the fellows who want to kill him because he stole their money are not going to be all that respectful of his things as they search for him. But it is a camping trailer, maybe it was just racoons.

Johny annoys me in a homicidal way, but Barb annoys me in a Hee Haw funny kind of way.

I have no idea where Karla thought this last card game was going. It looks like, you win you are dead, you lose you are dead. Wait, that was her grand ambition to begin with, to kill herself, take a Mother away from a darling little girl and a wife from a man, and burn down all the worldly possessions of the those two. Hmmm doesn't sound too glamorous when you put it that way.

You know, if Alacran were not a Narco murderer covered in tattoos, and if Eva were not setting the bar higher every day for bitchiness and connivery, they almost look like a happy (Hoppy) couple. I wonder...NAH, fagettaboutit.

And Thanks again Ms Chik for all the work you do.

Thanks, Anon4:58, Steve and Kirby!

Anon 4:48, LCJ should=a locked the door, but from what I saw, he WANTED to get caught!

Steve, that screenshot of the (non)punch was a fluke, by when I saw it, I just had to share.

Kirby, “I Love Lucy” Love it!

More laters...much to do!

Even though I can't watch this, I can't but help stopping by from time to time.

RgvChick, I'm surprised your screen shot didn't melt my computer!!! Wow. Hawt, hawt, hawt.

Perfect title. Your and Kirby's sweet avatars are delightful.

Wonderful news about Caray continuing. Anita and her incredible team have my sincere thanks and gratitude.

Diana

Good morning Patio. Yes, Rgv Chick put in some hot screenshots and followed it up with a lot of snappy, hot prose. Very enjoyable read. My favorite:

"Johny notices that she is acting strange and seems upset (Yeah! You interrupted her dessert!)"

And I loved that Karla and her family have a tradition of ordering dessert first. Gals, how many of you, when looking at a new cookbook, turn to the dessert section first? (Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa)

Given Lemon Studio's penchant for eliminating beloved characters (Yago, I'm looking at you) I was in agony watching the tender scene with Karla's family, and the equally tender scene with Montilla and his beloved wife. Just getting a bad feeling already.

Still get a kick out of Beltrám and Barbara. So typical of his macho persona that he expected Barbara to carry all the suitcases into the trailer. And of course his continued teasing of the judge's son. Such a scoundrel but I'm getting so fond of him I forget that he is also an assassin.

I do like it that this story poses the questions that bedevil all of us.
Why was I born?
Why was I born into this circumstance?
Why do some people have it so easy and others are trapped into lives of unrelenting misery and abuse?
If God's way is perfect, why is there so much suffering in the world?
And especially why do seemingly innocent people suffer such cruelty?

For that reason, I thought Juliana's scene was the most important of the episode, even though there was a lot more excitement with our primo couple, and a lot more tension in Karla's card game.

And Lord! Johny is so unctuous he makes me gag anytime he's on screen. This "mi niña, mi niño stuff just makes me want to hurl.

Thanks Rgv Chick and thanks Anita and Team for continuing the great CarayCaray tradition. We are all so grateful to you, commenters and lurkers alike, I'm sure.

Chickie, thanks so much for reporting all the happenings .

Judyb, I read your questions shaking my head in agreement. My head is more filled with unanswerable questions now than when I was young.

Thanks again to all those who saved caray. I like to drop by every day to "see" all of you and feel you near.

Food but sunny here. Now I am off to grocery shop and then chores.

Food???...that was supposed to be "cold" ...sorry..I am a little out of it today.I am trying to snap out of it , but....

Kirby: I went LOL at your "I Love Lucy" reference. It seems everybody wants to get freaky with Lucia.

Yet she cannot control herself.

Yes Steve, it looks like almost a rerun of Bela (Esmeralda) in Beauty and the Beasts, when she was in disguise as the hot blonde and courting the old beast who (thought he) could not wait to get her clothes off. Oops, didn't live long enough.

She came up with more excuses than a high school virgin to put him off. It will be a circus if we get to see Lucia and another frisky bad guy doing the same dance.

PS I know a HS virgin was last seen in 1986. It is a figure of speech. :-)

RGV Chick, I don't often comment, but I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed your recap. I chuckled all the way through it. I love the references to "I Love Lucy."
I thought Alejandro Nones was obnoxious in "Teresa" as Teresa's first love, but he excels in his disgustingness (is that a word?) in this telenovela. During interviews he seems like such a nice guy, so he must be doing a great job of acting. Wonder if he might be nominated for villain in the telenovela awards coming in March.
Thanks to all of you who recap each episode. You do a wonderful job and it is greatly appreciated since I don't know Spanish. I'm one of those who slipped through the cracks before Spanish was offered as a second language in small-town Ohio 1960's-USA. I may have said this before, but I opted for French over Latin. Can you guess how many times I have used French since then? 0 times...not even in college.

Thanks, Diana, JudyB, Susanlynn and Ginger. Great comments and insight from everyone! This was a good episode! but then, if you ask me, tha ay are; and they just get better n better.

Diana, always glad when you drop in. Those two protags really do sizzle; I'm surprised I didn't see any smoke coming out of my TV.

JudyB, Barb and Bel do bring some lighter shades into this dark story as do Renata and Kayla. Oh yeah, Bel is an assassin...ugh! And ah, yes, those questions tha we all tend to ask at some point in time. As Susanlynn stated; there are more questions now than in the good ol' days.

Ginger, it's always nice to know that we make some one laugh; that is, after all, what we are here for..to entertain and share with the good company we keep. I had never seen Nones before, but he must be good since he is portraying a character that has come to be so hated...a job that he is doing really well.

RE- Episodes--Meant to say "they are all good" 'spose I should proofread before clicking on publish, huh?

BTW, did I see right, that Patio or whatever, oh Mayela is hosting a cooking show? I didn't really pay attention, with the Renata and Kayla show on at the same time. Woof. Wag....

So little Renata has to compete, at least she thinks, with an on the air personality who seems to have a history with Mr. Gully Golden. And for the ultimate insult she is asked to organize a birthday party on behalf of her nemesis which will by all standards almost surely drive her man into the other woman's arms. Those two are not hard to look at, and they are hilarious on top of it.

She is too young and nice to really fight dirty, so she is in romance purgatory.

Ginger, I agree. Nones was obnoxious in Teresa from the get-go. And I also studied French in high school, although Spanish was offered. But I've been trying to learn español for the past 14 years on my own, precisely because it is the one foreign language (other than Somali) that is useful in the US.

Buy yourself some Teach Yourself Spanish books and put on the closed captions in Spanish, you'll be surprised how quickly you can learn.

Lucobo's 1st time in the river, 2nd on the desk, 3rd I don't know, maybe limousine.

12:56 Yep I was thinking the same thing. If she got him in her normal bed he might have problems. While Eva and Alac seem to be into Ninja encounters, Joco and Luci seem to be more into 'Sorpresa ! hookups.

I too, am shocked the Limo with the blacked out windows has not been utilized. If the Caddy's a rockin, don't come a knockin, ....John....

If we had not gotten the clue that Leon was not much of a Father, it was crystal clear last night when LCJ had the little chat with Guille. That is not necessarily an indictment of Leon, though, as compared to some really bad Fathers. He loved his children and more than amply provided for them, but in so doing, was sort of disconnected and too busy.

But there are a lot of kids who would gladly accept that in lieu of having the holy bejesus beat out of them by a parent or parents who ARE around all the time. Or a couple of druggie or drunk parents who they can not wait to escape from.

So don't cry too many big crocodile tears for spoiled worthless Guille. He has had life handed to him on a silver platter and he does not even know which end of his car contains the engine.

there :-)

And truth be known, I am still mad at him for the way he treated Fabiola. :-)

RGV--what a hilarious romp through the Gardens of Iniquity last night with such brilliance. Thank you. Please do it again, soon.

We all love to hate Johny. Here's what I picked up just in today's comments. I'm sure there have already been plenty. Unctuous is my new favorite. I like dufus, too. Don't know if any of you recall that I drew up a list of all the names and character descriptions the Patio gave Alonso in Amor Bravio.

Johny on the spot is everywhere
Johny annoys me in a homicidal way
Johny is so unctuous he makes me gag anytime he's on screen
[Johny] excels in his disgustingness (is that a word?) in this telenovela

Ginger and judyb, my small, rural high school offered three languages German (because most of population was of German descent), Latin, and French. I studied two years of Latin and two years of French ( my French name was Suzette). Both were taught by my tiny, proper, elderly English teacher Miss Moore. We mostly learned songs which I still remember. Adesta Fidelis (oh Come All He Faithful) , Frere jacques, Alouette, Sur La Ponte. Then I struggled with two semesters of French in college. I can still remember some vocabulary but cannot understand or speak French.

After watching telenovelas for 11years and teaching many Spanish speaking students I still cannot understand or speak much Spanish. Having taught ESLfor many years, I have found that some people pick up languages easily and quickly and others struggle.

Susanlynn--glad you checked in with us. I just met a young man who works for a window installing company. I said something inadvertently in Spanish and he caught it and asked if I spoke Spanish. We had quite a conversation in Spanish. I was especially impressed when he told me he was (African)American, but took Spanish in ELEMENTARY school and hadn't really used it much since--he looked as if he could be in his late 20s early 30s. We finally reverted to English, a relief for both of us. You never know. Now he's glad he did as he works with a lot of employees whose 1st language is Spanish and are struggling with their English.

I took French in high school, thinking, as it was a Romance language and I already knew Spanish it ought to have been a snap. WRONG. It took going to a French immersion summer school for me to start thinking in French rather than translating in my head from English to French before saying anything, so I never participated and froze when called on.

Kudos to you for taking French in college. I chose German and had a worse time than with French, until I moved into the German House on campus--a substitute for an immersion summer.

Oh (she admits, red faced), I got the the guy's name wrong AND the telenovela I created the list of appellations. I guess I'm working with fewer brain cells these days.

It was Dr. Alvaro Nesme in Cuando me Enamoro.

Anita, I once read that dreaming in a new language that you are learning indicates that you are actually starting to think in that language. I share this with my students at the beginning of a semester and ask if anyone has dreamed in English. Then, throughout the semester I have excited students telling me , "I dreamed in English last night!!" I also have had students who told me that they are better in English if they have a drink!

I know quite a lot of Arabic after having many Arabicspeaking students throughout the years and a bit OF Chinese.

Anita
Thank you so much for taking over for Jane.
I'm not sure I could be happy without my daily fix of Caray.
I re-watch a good deal of older telenovelas and love it when there is a recap here, especially reading the comments

"what time he leaves, arrives, what he eats (uhmm, Lucia's tongue right now!)"
BEST!!!
