Amar a Muerte, 3/13/19: A Post-Mortem

VALE'S VALE OF TEARS

Of all the tragic characters who have suffered greatly in this story, Valentina Carvajal is the one I suggest has suffered the most. We wish her well in whatever path her future takes her.

First she loses her mother at a very young age. As a teenager, her father decides to remarry someone about the same age as her older sister, Eva.

Vale then loses her father in a most unfortunate incident on his wedding day--right before her eyes, including the stabbing to death of the stabber by a trusted family associate. Detective Montilla grills her on her father’s associates for enemies he might have had. It just serves to rattle her further—she knows nothing of her father’s business. She takes solace in alcohol and withdraws. She is most probably clinically depressed, but no one does anything except urge her to “get out more.”

She’s basically ignored by the rest of the household. Even her interaction with Lucia is at a minimum, though congenial. Her sister Eva bullies her regularly and dismisses her contributions. She has an abusive boyfriend who "owns" her and uses her to meet his own needs.

She has her own brush with death when she falls into their swimming pool, drunk, and nearly drowns. Jacobo, the new family chauffeur saves her. This is not what the family meant by “get out more.”

Amar A Muerte, 3/9/19, Episode 86: In Which Confession Is NOT Good For The Soul

     Parte 1~~
  • Aprehensive over what comes next, Johny and Lucia walk into the living room followed by Jacobo, aka León who is ready for bear.  "--It's time that the three of us should have a talk."  Johny objects to speaking with a lowly chauffeur but Leo is ahead of him.  "--The chauffeur is outside and I am in here asking questions.  Now, there's no better time than now wouldn't you two agree?"  JC turns to Lucia and asks just what's going on here.  Lucia is temporarily suffering from lock-jaw brought on by severe panic.  "--Care to explain a bit about which one of you two orchestrated--or perhaps it was bright little Lucia who contributed to this plan."  JC starts to say "Excuse me--" but Leo cuts him off.  "--No there's nothing to excuse.  Or, well let's begin at the beginning: Wasn't it you who hired Lucia and put her at the reception desk so that she would stop me from entering simply because I didn't have a name tag [gafete]?" JC stutters and Leo repeats the question more forcefully.  "Jacobo, or Chino...or...--"  "--León!"

Amar a Muerte, 3/7/19, Episode 85: Watch Out Kiddies—Daddy’s Back

To bring you up to date with our main transmigrated souls, here is a quick overview of Leon Carvajal and Macario, El Chino, Valdes, followed by Thursday night's highlights.

León Carvajal/Macario El Chino Valdés/Jacobo Reyes/Leónchi/LCJ/León
At the top of his game, León Carvajal, this scion of a successful media conglomerate, with a beautiful young trophy wife, two adult children and one nearly ready to fledge, is stabbed to death on his wedding day. End of story.

No, as prepared as he was to manage a large and diverse company with foreign business ties, meetings, daily reports, ratings, fiscal bottom lines, board of directors to head and a very public face, he finds himself in a world he merely reported on from the comfort of an executive suite. A handsome new and younger body is the least of this transmigrant’s problems.

He is dirty, smelly, in the hands of not so nice prison personnel. He’s being turned loose as his execution was not successful. He’s not even in his own country. Two women he does not know, claim him. He struggles to understand the unknowable. Before he can extricate himself from them and the poverty they live in, narco assassins come after him for some stash of money stolen from them and a hurricane destroys everything. He’s separated from these two who assured him his role is hired killer, suspected philanderer, husband and father, in that order.

The good news is, Daddy is back, the bad news is Sister is leaving.
Previously: Eva walked into the editing room and saw everyone watching the special report on HER!

Eva tells Palomarez to turn off the television, she frantically tells everyone not to believe everything they see. Everything is false, they know she wouldn’t do something like that. She is going to sue that TV station for slandering her. She then orders everyone to get to work instead of standing around gossiping.

At Silvina’s house, Beltrino bangs on the door as he holds a bouquet of fresh flowers in his other hand. He yells out to Loopy and Juls. He knows she is angry, but he wants to talk it out. Just then, Tiberio arrives and tells him that they no longer live there, they left the city. Juls wonders how Lupita can be having erotic dreams of her father when she saw her on the couch with Pancho. Lupita reiterates that that is why it is odd, but it is one thing she and El Chino did very well. Juls is disgusted that Lupita may still be in love with El Chino. Ha ! Everybody else is.

Montilla is still in Johny’s office questioning Magda, the secretary. Once finished, he asks for a copy of Johny’s agenda for the day on which Susana was murdered. Montilla takes the cups of coffee and is about to leave when Lucía rushes in, but when she sees Montilla, she excuses herself and starts to leave. Montilla tells her he is leaving and regrets that Johny didn’t want his coffee. After Montilla and Magda leave, Lucía asks what happened with Montilla. Johny assures her everything is well, but wonders what is going on with her since she looks so upset. Lucía doesn’t know whether to call it a miracle or craziness…Jacobo Reyes is León Carvajal! Johny smirks and wonders if she is going to continue with that nonsense; those are ideas of the common folk. Lucía swears that this is different; she just came from talking to Lupita, Jacobo’s alleged wife. Lupita confirmed it; there is a different person in her husband’s body. Johny thinks it’s something that many wives say; maybe they got together and want money or he is lying to her. Lucía also went to see Camilo who also confirmed that LCJ (León/Chino/Jacobo) is León. Johny insists that Cami is Jacobo’s friend and is defending him, Lucía points out that Cami is also a scientist with an impeccable reputation; they call this transmigration of souls. Johny argues and tells her to think it through because he doesn’t have time for her stupidities…their boat is sinking and she comes with this nonsense. Lucía gives up and storms out.  (And takes her shark repellant with her)

Amar a Muerte, 3/1/19, Episode 81: So Hard To Believe?

In the darkened theater, Lucia tells Jacobo, aka León, that what he's telling her is impossible.  How could he expect her to believe such a cruel thing?  Jacón replies that he's asked himself a thousand times the same thing.  She insists León died in her arms and she herself saw him buried.  Now he expects her to believe he was [like Dios] brought back and arose three days later?  "--NOT three days later--it was the same day!"  She accuses him of playing a disgusting trick on her.  He mentions things the two of them alone would have share: the origamis birds because she felt jailed and wanted to fly away; the dinner in Paris where she learned to eat snails; and the tea they had in Japan served by a geisha.  "--Come closer, Lucia.  I know that it is strange.  The body is Chino Valdez but the soul is my own.  I am León Carvajal.  It's name is transmigration of souls and that's what happened to me the day of my death."

Johny speaks to one of the security or police to trace Lucia's phone so he can "rescue her from a very dangerous man."

Lucia races back towards the lobby telling Jacon that it's superstitious rubbish; a person dies and that's that.  He insists to her that it isn't that easy and it is something he had to come to terms with and accept.  She insists he's lying to her and is NOT Leon because he loved her and wouldn't dare pull something so nasty on her.  He already admitted he hates her.  He declares that he finally understood he had to accept it all when he watched his widow and his former right hand man and best friend discussing how they had planned his murder.  "--So how did you divine that?  He yells back that he didn't have to.  He viewed it all through the cameras he had placed throughout the entire house and watched it from that secret room they discovered a few days back.  One of those cameras was placed in her studio.  "--And shall I relay to you what happened next?  Because I have the time to!!"  "--I am not going to play your little game!!"  She races out into the street just as Johny pulls up.  She gets in and tells Johny to floor it.

Amar a Muerte, 2/27/2019, Episode 79: Gypsies in the Castles, can Candy, Loopy and Juls get a place together?

Previously: Lucía told Candela to pack her things and leave. Vale asked Juls if she had sex with Sergio. LCJ went to see Mateo to talk to him about Eva, he thinks Eva was being coerced into the money laundering business. Mateo gave him a shocker when he told LCJ that Eva was also doing the horizontal mambo with Alacrán.

LCJ (León/Chino/Jacobo) doesn’t believe it, but Mateo assures him that he saw it with his own eyes. LCJ wants to know what Mateo heard, so Mateo tells him that Eva told Alacrán that if he died, she wanted to die too because she loves him. LCJ thinks Mateo must be mistaken. Mateo wishes he was mistaken, his whole life has been a lie…his marriage…and now he doesn’t even know if the child Eva is having is his. LCJ wants Mateo to talk to her so she can explain, but Mateo knows she will continue lying. He had already asked her about the money laundering and all she did was lie to his face. Mateo can’t trust her, what he has to do is go to the newspaper and publish his report….if they won’t do it, he’ll go to the competition. LCJ heatedly tells Mateo to calm down, the baby might be his and they could be blackmailing Eva. Mateo retorts, “Oh, yeah! They put a gun to her head so that she could be rolling around with that criminal! That’s what happened! Enough! I have to bring her down, that’s what I need to do!” LCJ yells that what he needs to do is not act on impulse. Mateo gets his laptop and starts to leave, but LCJ blocks his way.

Amar a Muerte, 2/26/2019, Episode 78: A Hard Fall from Grace

Eva arrives at Alacrán’s hideout and is patted down before she enters to see Alacrán. After she and the goons enter, Mateo cautiously comes out from the side of the building. He doesn’t dare go inside, but finds a scaffolding leading up to the second floor and starts his way up.

At Barb’s house, LCJ (León/Chino/Jacobo) laughs as he teases Camilo for trying to be a jokester in his old age since he is trying to make him believe that his daughter is laundering money for the Cartel de los Sierra. Cami chides LCJ for thinking that he would go there just to say jokes so that LCJ can have a good time. When Cami tells LCJ that Mateo went to his house, LCJ asks him to tell him exactly what Mateo said.  Mateo told Cami something very serious—the Carvajal Group is involved in money laundering. Cami asks LCJ to think about who heads the company if not Eva. LCJ thinks that the idea that his daughter is laundering money in the company that he built is crazy. Cami asserts that Mateo arrived at his house and he has evidence. This is a critical situation since LCJ has been marked as a sicario. LCJ wants to go talk to Mateo so Mateo can explain it to him, but Cami tells him he can’t; Cami is there so LCJ can tell him what he needs to do.

Amar a Muerte, 2/25/19, Episode 77: To Tell the Truth—Will the Real Father Please Stand Up?

* Montilla and his fully-black-suited and armed posse raid Al’s place. Gancho has managed to evade them and has arrived where Al is hiding, wounded, somewhere in the bowels of his fortress. He’s bleeding. They manage to drag him away, swiftly followed by the police, who, of course, are a minute too late and they lose track of what’s left of the mighty Sierra Cartel gang.
* Jules stands between the two men. She needs an explanation—NOW. Beltino tells her they have to leave. He’ll explain later. Juls balks. She’s not leaving without her ma. Beltino gets in her face. He grabs at her and LCJ, watching all this tells her to mind him. Juls is so confused. One of them acts just like her father and the other one looks just like her father.
* Candy and Johny are standing in Lucia’s living room. Candy is still looking for forgiveness. Johny is pushing Luci to forgive her, too. He thinks everybody deserves a second chance. Luci says Candy used up all her second chances. Amar A Muerte, 2/22/19, Episode 76: Goons And Gálans To The Rescue

Parte 1~~

So, via Lucia's directive, the news gets out. Guillermo's stint in jail gets publicized nationwide with a sympathetic slant  (natch):  "--The young heir to the Carvajal news empire hoping to fashion his own road to success fell victim to a youthful and spirited horseplay which turned into a tragic accident.  As one can see (and of course, the liquor store owner and his wife just happen to be in the audience), the young man was not aware of what was about to occur and once he saw what his friend intended, he tried to avoid the gun play but the bullet went astray and tragedy struck.  Now all of Mexico is on the edge of their seat wondering what his fate will be."  Mrs. Liquorstore Owner angrily calls the news broadcast manipulative--and she ain't wrong.  Mr. Liquorstore Owner is thinking things over and seems to have a different twist on it all.

A bit later in the day, Valentina races into Montilla's office asking him to rescue Juliana from the same men who once kidnapped her mother.  He says he'll try but ain't promisin' nuthin'.  She races back out in a snitfit.

Amar a Muerte, 2/20/2019, Episode 75: DRAT, Now where did I put dem bullets?

Previously: Lucía asked Camilo if he thought she and Johny were León’s murderers.
Camilo laughs it off and assures Lucía that he could never think she would commit such a crime. When Lucía asks about Johny, Cami confesses that he thinks Johny is terribly wicked, calculating, and a game player, if Jacobo accuses him there must be a good reason. Cami adds that that is a conversation that Johny and Jacobo should have, it’s not any of Cami's business. Lucía asks Cami not to be a hypocrite, he is good friends, and probably an accomplice, with Jacobo and surely, Jacobo has told him that they had a relationship. Cami remarks that Jacobo is the problem. Lucía gets annoyed and asks what it is they want…do they want to drive her crazy? Cami denies wanting to make her crazy and reiterates that Jacobo is the one that needs to have that conversation with her.

At Beltrino’s house, Alicia watches one of Beltrán’s lectures where he presents information on Plato and his theory that purports the passing of certain psychic abilities from body to body after death. She continues to listen as a woman in the audience, Micaela Robles, affirms that the transmigration of souls does exist…because she is a transmigrant. Alicia is shocked, but writes down the name.

At Barb’s house, Barb has microwaved something for León since her cooking is a joke. She asks LCJ to tell her more about Vale and Juls, but LCJ doesn’t think he needs to go into detail. Barb cackles as she thinks about the face Beltrino will make when he finds out. LCJ scoldes her for laughing and asks if she thinks that this is really funny, Barb admits that it is, but she doesn’t think it’s a coincidence…it’s destiny. LCJ and Beltrino were meant to meet through the transmigration of their souls or through their daughters…or maybe one thing happened so that the other might occur. LCJ agrees that there has to be a purpose for all of this…maybe so that he can help Betrino save his daughter, but there has to be something more.

Amar A Muerte, 2/15/19, Episode 72: They Can't Handle The Truth Or In Need Of A Few Good Believers

Parte 1~~

While Guillermo thinks back over and over again to his careless adventure at the liquor store, Dr. Camilo Guerra ponders his sleepless night and the mysterious, mystical events of the day before.  He and his housekeeper worry that members of La Sierra Cartel will return there in their search for El Chino.

El Alacran is planning on doing just that and says to Gancho, "--The old doctor doesn't have any idea of what's waiting for him!"

Lupita comments to Panchito that she's wondering where her poor daughter slept last night.  Could something have happened to her.  Panch tells Lupi not to worry, that the girl is old enough to take care of herself now.  (Viewerville thinks that should anybody attempt anything with Juliana, that nasty, rude and thankless bitch, it's them that need to be careful!)  Perla calls to inform Lupi that Jules slept there last night and is working there with her.  Panchito says let her alone for a while but Lupi will go to check on Jules without him.

Alicia is still having difficulty believing the tale Beltran, aka El Chino Valdez, has told her.  He recalls to her the different doctors, fortune tellers, shamans and witchdoctors he's gone to trying to learn how and why he was brought back from the dead and put into her husbands dead body.  All his strange disappearances, he admits, have been due to meeting these people and his looking for answers.

Valentina reaches out to Jules via text.

León, aka Jacobo, and Cam discuss the supposed "grave robbing" of the night before.  Jake admits digging up the grave but insists the body was not in the coffin to begin with.  Somebody must be walking around in his body somewhere!

Amar a Muerte, 2/15/19: Karmageddon Awaits!

Actually, considering the supernatural events from the outset it is already in force. The transmigration is just the torture before the end. There were lessons to be learned while some do not appear to have landed yet and lots can still happen before the end. Let's get started in the usual manner:

-- What do you think the writers will do to them?
-- What would you do if you disagree?

At Barb’s house, Cami is on the phone with Mercedes who tells him, in a panic, about Alacrán and his goons coming in and ransacking the place. Cami tries to calm her down and tells her that the important thing is that nothing happened to her. After he ends the call, Cami turns to LCJ and tells him that it is confirmed…they destroyed everything. After LCJ apologizes, Cami assures him that they are in this together. LCJ is leery about Beltrino and Barb, so he tells Cami that he will leave first and Cami can follow afterwards. Barb is happy that they are leaving so her things won’t get destroyed too, but Beltrino insists that this is the safest place on the planet for LCJ. He tells Barb to let LCJ stay until the Doc can figure out a way to help them so he can get his body back. When Cami comments that he cannot help Beltrino with that, Beltrino suggests that Barb summon Death so she can speak to the Doc.

Cami stresses that he is a scientist and abides by certain rules. Beltrino points out that there are no rules in this area…Cami should have figured that out already. He continues that Cami is the person who is most versed in that room, maybe he can interpret what Death tells Barb…they can ask Death how they can resolve this. Cami questions if he can really talk to Death, so Beltrino clarifies that Barb will be the one to talk to Death. Beltrino sits Barb down and orders her to summon Death…maybe they can ask their questions through her. As Cami starts to insist that he cannot help them, they all feel a presence…and Death Chick looks Cami straight in the eye and doesn’t look happy.
