Two short announcements:

1) novelera will be posting a recap of tonight's 2-hour Falsa Identidad episode(s). The recap will probably appear later than usual.

2) CarayCaray has been undergoing some changes in management. Jane Peppler, aka Melinama, who founded CarayCaray and has been in charge, has decided to step down and turn the management over to others. A team of people involved with CarayCaray have agreed to take over its management. Apparently, relatively little will change. CarayCaray will continue to be a place for discussing telenovelas. More information will be forthcoming.

FALSA IDENTIDAD – LUNES – Parte 1 de 5

Friday
- Gavino says that the reason he ratted out Circe in court is to prevent her leaving the country.
- Circe gives Isabel a big insincere smile and tells her she should go away with Porfirio.
- Gavino is declared innocent.
- Circe is furious upon hearing what happened in court, saying she paid $$$ so he would rot in jail.
- Isa tries to get Marlene to go to Sonora on the fool’s errand of a better burial for the Guevaras.
- Fernando thinks out loud, telling Salas that she could end up in prison.
- Diego tells Deivid that they’re going to give the DEA the drugs and then retachar (bounce) to Sonora to kill Gavino
- Piochas and some others grab up Ramona.
- Lucía refuses to help Lourdes in bringing down Mateo.

Gavino threatens Ramona. She is going to tell him every detail of Circe and Diego’s plans to leave the country. Ramona says she doesn’t know anything, and Gavino laughs at her. Ramona is tough. She says she knows they’re going to leave but not where to or when. She gets a hard backhand from Gavino for this. He says he’s been in a prison cell all these months thinking about his revenge. He begins to choke Ramona.

Piochas comes in with news. Somehow the Gaona cartel knows that Deivid and Diego are at the border. Gavino roars at Ramona; Diego is in Sonora and she hasn’t told him?

Sitting in a booth in Sonora with Deivid, Diego learns that it’s all over the news that he’s alive and being hunted everywhere. Deivid has a plan. He suggests that he himself cross with the RV and Diego and the rest of Circe’s guys cross the desert into the US.

Joselito calls Circe and tries to talk her into joining up with him. He says he’s got contacts with Los Ticos (Costa Ricans). She replies that neither of them trusts the other. He reminds her she caused him the worst humiliation of his life (the stick inserted where we think it was inserted); but ... bygones. He’ll come to Mexico and kill Gavino for her. She rubs some salt in his wounds. “Don’t worry. I’m not alone. I’m with Diego.” Joselito throws his cell in the pool.

Salas and Fernando worry about their bad boy, Diego. She tells him, with a tender smile, about Diego’s calling her ma. She tells him also that they have to create a diversion so Diego can escape. She wants to go to Hermosillo and give herself up.

Amanda and Ricas ask their father why he bought candles, etc. He says it’s a surprise for their mother.

At Babel something about the news of Diego being alive causes Marlene to say to Isa that they can’t proceed with the “plan” (the idiocy of re-burying Los Guevara).

FALSA IDENTIDAD – LUNES – Parte 2 de 5

Jim tells the others that they’ll have to put on a show without Nuria, who is MIA.

We get a very, very cute scene of Porfirio’s preparations. Some good banda music plays. He showers, trims his beard, sprays cologne all over himself, and sprays mouthwash. He dances around in time to the music and plans to offer her some wine.

The scene switches to Marlene, Isabel, and Paloma doing a flamenco dance, with some men as their partners.

Gavino sends some guys to find Diego in Sonora. Mateo keeps trying to save Ramona.

Salas is admiring Fernanda for her courage in giving herself up. She says she knows the judge, Alberto Sánchez. He was a good friend of Eliseo. She’s stunned he’d turn on Eliseo. Salas: Poderoso caballero es Don Dinero. Fernanda is ready to do anything to defend her children (the memory of the dead one and the safety of the living one).

Ramona takes Gavino to task for years and years of serving him, being forced to leave Sonora and Circe. “And you KNEW that that witch killed my sister.” Gavino, always the master manipulator: ¿Eso es lo que arde? (This is what burns or seethes in anger?)

OK, he says; let’s make a deal. He wants her to tell him what Diego’s up to in Sonora and he’ll “take care of” Felipa. She blurts out that Diego is in Sonora to cross the border with a ton of merca. And that this is what they have to do for Ibarra in order to be free.

Gabriela’s plan that she relates to her sister, Mara, is to ask Jim for help with his contacts in order to get work as a dancer in Las Vegas.

After all of those preparations, Porfi falls asleep in a chair. The thought crossed my mind that he’d died. Isa comes home, tries to wake Porfirio and then gets into bed with her clothes on and falls asleep.

Diego’s contact in the US is Frank Scavo, the same guy who gave them spending money in the US when Isabel and Diego crossed the border into the US planning to live there. Diego asks him if he has someone he can trust in the DEA. Diego needs to speak to that guy.

Isa wakes up. Porfirio is not dead. He makes a move on her, but the kids come in and see all the candles and rose petals. Amanda smirks a little but Ricas has no clue.

Paloma is outside Nuria’s apartment and calls Isabel to say Nuria isn’t answering. Snore. This recap is long anyway, and I’m not wasting typing strokes on Nuria’s OD. Of course, she didn’t die.

Apparently the handover of the drugs is to be in Santa Fe. This surprises me; that’s pretty far from the border. Diego is with the end customer of the drugs in the RV. He takes a phone call and then tells the guy the “candies” are on their way.

FALSA IDENTIDAD – LUNES – Parte 3 de 5

In Hermosilla Fernanda spots the judge and approaches him. He’s surprised to see her. She tells him she’s come to respond to the accusations against her. This guy is very uncomfortable. She says she wants to make una declaración (a statement). When he seems ready to refuse, Salas asks him whether he’d rather they made a statement to the press. Fernanda adds that the press might be even more interested than the judge is. Trapped the judge asks a guard to prepare things for her statement. He reminds her that this is an investigation, and not a trial.

Circe breaks the news to Jim that she’s leaving Babel. Then she gets a call from Ramona saying that Gavino’s guys brought her to Sonora. But now her loyalty is to Gavino because he promised her what Circe would not give her: the death of Felipa. She tells Circe that Gavino is on his way to D.F. But this is a ploy. We see that Gavino is at his ranch with Ramona. She begs him not to kill Circe. He evades a bit, saying that Circe will look for Felipa now that Ramona is no longer with her. He’s planning to follow Circe there to get Felipa.

Felipa is doing some daytime brujería. She is looking at cards we can’t see or maybe snake bones, who knows. El rey…la reina…será la lucha final. (The king...the queen...it will be the final battle.) Who will survive? She then begins shrieking No! No! No! No!

Deivid arrives in the RV at the place where the drugs are to be handed over. The “customers” take only a few seconds to find and verify all is well. When Diego and Deivid try to leave, they are told they have to stay. Diego tells Deivid out of their earshot that, when the feds come, they are to shoot some rounds into the air and run out the back way.

Fernanda is fabulous while making her statement. The crooked judge with the beautiful eyes tells her to be careful. If they don’t find Diego’s remains from that crime scene… She says that, if her ex said on the stand that Diego is alive, neither she nor Eliseo knew this. [Ok…she’s lying, but so well!] She goes on to say that the narcos tried to buy him, but he never went for it. And this is why he’s dead.

Fernanda goes on to say that she has proof that Augusto Orozco and Gavino Gaona had plans to cross a half ton of drugs across the border. At this Judge Papichulo stops the woman who’s typing Fernanda’s statement. After the woman leaves he asks Fernanda if she has any idea what a mess she’s in. Salas: “If you refer to the fact that Fernanda is in danger because Gaona is free due to the fact that you declared him innocent, yes, we know.” Fernanda announces that she has the recording Eliseo made about the drugs and that also contains Augusto confessing to murder. We hear some of this recording again.

The US drug customer tells Diego that he called the Ibarras to say that the merchandise was delivered. Just then a firefight erupts. But Diego and Deivid get away. [For some reason I was afraid Deivid would get shot.]

FALSA IDENTIDAD – LUNES – Parte 4 de 5

Fernanda gets right in the judge’s face, reminding him that Eliseo was his best friend, a friend who stayed up all night helping him pass his exams. She accuses him of dirtying the name of her son and setting free his killer. He responds that she still hasn’t gotten over the loss of her son and is making false accusations. She replies that she intends to take this audio to a court in the capital. She won’t permit anyone to enlodar (lit. put mud on, or make dirty) either her name or the name of her son.

Mateo has a house guest: Ramona. He gripes that Piochas has left his house un chiquero (pigsty). Ramona muses. “And if I told you that, as a girl, I was dying to see this house?” She says she had visions of his bringing her to this house. And she adds: Vamos a hablar a calzón quitado. (talk with your pants down or call a spade a spade). She tells him that she didn’t voluntarily leave. He sent her away because he was afraid she’d tell his wife. She says that she was the first woman they put to work in the capital. He forces a kiss on her; and, like nearly all women in TNs, she succumbs.

Ricas tells his father he wants to say something and that his father should not be mad. He hates to leave this house because then Diego won’t be able to find him. And he’ll never get to see Diego again. Porfi doesn’t like this, but he takes it.

Piochas tells Gavino about Diego delivering the drugs and the DEA showing up.

Alberto Sánchez shows up at Gavino’s ranch. He says that it was not a good idea to involve Fernanda nor Diego in the trial. [Significant look at Augusto from Gavino.] Beto goes on to say that, far from being scared, she came to make a statement and also brought a recording of Gavino and Augusto talking about trafficking.

Talk about being hoist with your own petard! Augusto insisted on throwing Fernanda and Diego under the bus, which definitely roused her. Gavino roars at Augusto that he knew about the recording. Later on he tells Disgusto to start thinking of some ways to be useful because…

Frank Scavo tells Diego that the raid was a success. They got the whole group that sells coke in the US (all of them, really?) and now they’re going after the Ibarras. He also says that the FBI wants to pursue things, and they know who’s trafficking from Mexico, one Circe Gaona! Diego pretends never to have heard of her.

Fernanda has come to Álamos to visit Eliseo’s grave. She tells the gravestone that her grief is as bad as ever. She says she has some good news: that things are better between her and Diego. She swears to clear his name and make a prisoner of the one who took his life.

Just then Gavino approaches and says he’s in agreement with that. Fernanda tries to attack him, but Piochas stops her. Gavino says he wants to take a little trip with her. He promises not to hurt her. And, with an actual twinkle in his eye, tells her that he’s uncomfortable in the cemetery because there’s a lot of guys here who would like to pull on his feet.

Diego calls to tell Circe that the DEA got the drugs.

FALSA IDENTIDAD – LUNES – Parte 5 de 5

Porfirio tries it on again, saying to Isa that the kids are in school. She keeps making excuses about his not being fully healed. Porfirio finally gets it. He tells Isa that she doesn’t want to be with him. He goes on to say that their thing is in the past. And he wonders what ese canijo tiene. He not only stole his woman; he also stole his son.

Circe tells Diego that, if she doesn’t escape, she’s still grateful to him and that being with him was worth everything that happens.

Gavino has brought Fernanda to his ranch. He promises that, if she gives him what he wants, she won’t be harmed. She thinks it’s the recording. He laughs, saying that she could have lots of copies so what good would that do him. He then says: Cuando la gallina se pierde los pollitos van buscandola. (When the hen is out of sight the chicks look for her.) The penny drops for Fernanda. “This is a trap for Diego." Gavino: “Yes.”

Fernanda tells him she won’t let him harm Diego. He gives her an admiring look. He says that she went to a judge to accuse him. He also tells her she’s chula. She tells him that he already killed one of her sons and she won’t let him take the other.

Gavino says he wants to make things clear. He didn’t kill the first one nor will he take the second. What he wants to do is open Diego’s eyes. He wants justice for Eliseo. He didn’t kill him. And he shows her the other surprise – Augusto!

Jim feels guilty that he didn’t recognize Nuria’s problem. They talk about how the customers aren’t happy with the reduced number of dancers. He decides to proceed with his earlier plan – to dance himself – and this time with Marlene instead of Isabel.

Chucho talks with his mother in Nayarit, and decides he’s going to go see his friends in D.F.

Lourdes and her parents are…somewhere when Lucía approaches to say she wants Mateo to pay for what he did. And she has three more women to join in.

Los Ibarra are confronting Circe. JJ tells her that something smells about this. He wants her to get his drugs or his money back or she’ll die.

Diego’s phone rings while he and Deivid are still on the road. He tells Deivid it’s mi jefa. But it’s Gavino on the line.

"FALSA IDENTIDAD":

Novelera: Sonya Smith is very good in her role.

identidad

Steve, I agree. Sonya is always good.

identidad

Wow! Given how good your recaps always are, novelera, I didn't think it would be possible for you to outdo yourself, but you sure have with this one. I found myself scratching my head any number of times while watching the novela, and your recap cleared up just about all my confusion, as well as telling me things I didn't even realize I hadn't understood. ¡Muchísimas gracias!

I thought that all along Deivid and Diego were going to cross together, but Deivid now proposes that they do so? Also, are all the drugs in the RV? If so, why would Circe's people cross via the desert? To distract the authorities? I'm still a little confused about the plan, but less confused than before I read your recap.

I was surprised to see male dancers with the three women at Babel. Where did the men come from? I don't recall seeing men in any of the routines before. And when would they all have had time to work out the routine?

Like you, novelera, I thought that Porfi might be dead rather than asleep in the chair. Later, again like you, I feared that Deivid was going to be shot as he and Diego were escaping. I guess we have similar imaginations of disaster. :-)

THANK YOU for not bothering with Nuria. Snore snore snore.

The scene where Jim dances with Marlene added to my feeling that the two of them may wind up together. But be that as it may, I was surprised that they could dance so well together with no rehearsal or discussion of what Jim has in mind. Have the two of them ever danced together before?

When Gavino told Fernanda that he didn't kill Eliseo, I expected that he might tell her who did, or at least that she would ask. But no, he simply surprises her with Disgusto.

I liked your saying "Lourdes and her parents are…somewhere when Lucía approaches." Head scratching time again. Lourdes and her parents have fled from their home so that Mateo can't find them, but somehow Lucia does???

Again, MANY MANY THANKS for doing this marvellous, heroic recap. I'm also grateful that tonight's episode (which I expect to recap) will be just one hour.

OPEN LETTER TO CARAYCARAY DEVOTEES
A new CarayCaray team is now in place of our departing guru, Jane, aka Melinama. We appreciate from the bottom of our hearts the tireless stewardship of her blog since she started it with Alborada, all those years ago. We want to thank her for letting us take on the job of continuing with and nurturing this blog. We hope we can do it justice.

To note, the storylines, dialog and content of telenovelas have evolved, many in ways which we don't like or approve. The English language has also evolved and what used to be offensive is now part of social content nation-wide. That goes for standard English broadcasts that are populating the cable and the airwaves as well. We who want to, change with the times, or filter out what is objectionable.

We recap and follow telenovelas for the pleasure of being in a community interested in telenovelas, Spanish language and Central and Latin American culture. The Univision and Telemundo products offered, drive the conversations.

If you have noticed that the number of telenovelas recapped, comments and "hits" on each recap is way down from days of yore, it can be assumed it may stem from the availability of closed captions getting better. Plenty of non-Spanish speakers have drifted off. What is left is a community of like-minded spirits who enjoy the conversations after the recap is posted. We hope each one of you are and continue to be one of them.

identidad--
Now that that little epistle has been delivered, I want to thank novelera for, yes, this heroic task. It was a good thing she didn't ask me to help her out, because we were still in the midst of crisis over the "smooth" transition from Melinama. I was finally able to sit down and watch the 2d hour, and looking forward to the 1st, oddly.

This is my highlight: so, poor Isa just couldn't get it on with Porfi last night. He wouldn't even take her into the bedroom? He kept saying the kids weren't around. He's right to feel frustrated since she kept insisting on continuing the charade, making him think things were ok and she only needed time. Of course it was Diego. That was so clear when WE got to see her flashback. Porfi apparently never learned how to make love to a woman. It is all about him and his needs. Diego showed Isa what it was to make love. (IMHO) But, does this mean Diego end up with Isa? Not if the cliffhanger suggests.

identidad

Juanita, the discussion Deivid and Diego had in that café concerned the fact that Diego's face was all over the news. He might have been recognized as he tried to cross the border as an RV tourist. This is why Deivid offered to cross alone, because of his anonymity. And Diego needed to alert the DEA, at least I think that's what his cell phone call was about. They never really said.

Thanks, Novelera. I'm so grateful for your double recap. Diego and Deivid's plan made no sense to me, but now I get it. I sure hope this is their last running g shootout with the law.

At last, Porfirio realizes it's over with Isa. I've come to like him. Maybe he'll take his unspent energy and work on his career.

So Mateo and Ramona had a thing. Those two creeps deserve each other.

Gavino's wiserack in the graveyard was a hoot.

Identidad

outstanding recap novelera!!!

kind of interesting watching Gavino implement his plan that he put together in prison, he knows people well.

A big ole La Sultana tiara to Melinama for all her hard work on this site. It makes watching the shows more fun, especially when the story is less than good (hello, El Talisman!). I've had to miss two days a week of novela time, and would be so lost without this site. (And thanks for the reminder about El Cohete where I try to catch up on La Sultana. That change in lead actress was very confusing. Fortunately, I mostly watch for the costumes and sets. And tiaras, of course).

Falsa- I think Porfirio has to live a little longer so he can heroically save the family in a final gun battle, hopefully against his father. That guy needs to die. After his victims go public and ruin him. It'll give Porfi a chance for full redemption, and from what we've heard of his singing, that music career may not go far. I would like for Jim to take some of the women- Marlene, Paloma, Nuria (only because her mother seemed nice and shouldn't have to lose her daughter), etc.- and start a big revue in Vegas. Get them out of the way of the drug dealers. And give them all tiaras. Someone needs to bring back that look.

Kelly

identidad, telemundo

Many thanks, deb, for the info about what's upcoming on Telemundo. I was especially interested in Jugar con Fuego, not so much in the show but in the fact that it will start at 9 PM on Jan. 22. So apparently Falsa Identidad will end on Monday, January 21.

Falsa Identidad - Capítulo 69 - Parte 1 de 3

The episode begins where the last one left off. Gavino has called Diego as he and Deivid are driving. Gavino says he's throwing a party and the guests include Fernanda, Salas, and Augusto. "We're waiting for you, Diego. Come without guns, without tricks." Diego is furious that Gavino has somehow kidnapped his mother. He tells Deivid that they're going to go to Gavino's. At first, he tells Deivid to get out of the car. It's his responsibility. There's no reason for Deivid to come. Deivid points out that Gavino's thugs killed his mother. He's going with Diego.

The Colombians confront Circe. JJ tells her "it looks like your women are the only ones who have stayed with you. Where are Ramona and the witch Felipa?" One of JJ's men adds, "And where is Emiliano?" JJ tells Circe that she and Emiliano are going to stay here [I assume "here" means in Mexico] until we get back what's ours.

Jim and Marlene discuss the moves in their dance. Jim asks her why she's so serious. Is something about this bothering her? Marlene replies that she's just concerned about Paloma and Isabel. She doesn't want them to misinterpret anything. It's clear, however, that Marlene is aroused, and probably Jim as well. He puts his hand on top of hers to thank her for her help and her professionalism. [Yeah, sure.]

Ricas asks Porfirio why he's packing his suitcase. Porfi tells him he's moving out. Amanda says, "It's because of Diego, right?" Porfi replies that he and Isabel are trying to work things out, but it's better that he leave. Things will be calmer. Isabel overhears this conversation. Later she admits to Porfirio that she doesn't feel romantic toward him. He mentions Diego, and she claims that Diego is past history. Porfi tells her he still loves her, but if it doesn't work, he should leave, he doesn't want charity.

Paloma and Gabi bring Nuria home from the hospital. Gabi puts her to bed while Paloma answers a knock at the door. It's Erick, who has come to see Nuria and wants to know what happened. Paloma insists that he leave. She tells him that Nuria needs her family and her friends, not a man who has betrayed her with many other women and even earned money from doing so (no al man que le puso los caches como con 50 y que además gane oro por eso). Paloma also tells him that Ramona was the one who plunged Nuria into the world of drugs. Erick is stunned, but he still wants to see Nuria. Gabi too tells him to leave. Erick claims that he loves Nuria more than anything. Finally, Nuria comes out, and she too tells him to leave. "I don't want you in my life. You're toxic."

Diego and Deivid arrive at Gavino's ranch. "Here I am," he tells Gavino. "What do you want?" Gavino tells him to sit down and eat. "Here in Mexico, we settle things with food," he tells Diego." And if that doesn't work, with bullets." Gavino leads him into the dining room, where the table is piled high with food. Diego, Deivid, and Gavino join Fernanda, Salas, and Augusto, who are already seated. Gavino proposes a toast, but Diego doesn't join in. He asks Gavino how he got out of prison. A smiling Gavino replies, "You and Circe paid plenty to keep me there, but I paid more." Gavino is clearly enjoying this opportunity to show that he's undefeated. He continues, "You and Circe thought that I was screwed, but in prison, I reinvented myself. I got back my contacts, inside and outside, and I made a ton of money. I became king."

Falsa Identidad - Capítulo 69 - Parte 2 de 3

Gavino reminds Diego, "You said many times that you wanted to be like me." He then turns to Deivid and says, "I gave you food when you were hungry, and you steal my gasoline." Turning to Augustus, he says, "I think there's no one at this table that you haven't betrayed." As for Fernanda, Gavino says she was Augusto's accomplice. She hid the pistol he used to kill Ramiro. Fernanda protests that that's not exactly right. Gavino moves on to Diego. "I opened the door to you, I opened Circe's legs to you, but you screwed my wife." He continues, "That's why we're here. All of you bit the hand that fed you."

Mateo asks someone (one of his policemen?) whether there have been any inquiries about the girls who have disappeared. The man assures Mateo that some of the parents have made inquiries, but none of the girls have made accusations.

The scene shifts to wherever Lourdes and her family are staying. Lourdes' mother, Lourdes, and Lucia are all intent on denouncing Mateo. Her father, on the other hand, is not sure whether that's a wise thing to do. The women seem to win out. They're scared but determined.

Isa comes to see Zoraida. Zoraida asks how Porfirio's recovery is progressing, and Isabel replies that it's going well. Zoraida notes that there doesn't seem to be much joy in Isabel's response. Isabel admits that she doesn't feel sexually attracted to Porfirio. "I've tried and tried, but I can't. I feel terrible." Zoraida advises her that she should listen to her heart. If he's not the right man, she should let him go. "Admit to yourself that you still love Diego."

Topo calls José in Costa Rica and then gives the phone to Felipa. José recognizes Felipa's voice and makes a crack about mules talking. Felipa tells him she's calling about Circe. If José still loves her, he should come back to Mexico, where he'd have a second chance to save her. "Don't lose it," she tells him. Soon afterward, José tells his men to prepare a plane and an army. He has visions of defeating JJ and the Colombians and taking back the territory they took from him. This will bring his men a lot of money.

Still at Gavino's food-laden table, Diego asks him what he wants. "Do you want to kill me? Why do you want to kill me? Because of your wife? If so, you'd have to kill half the pueblo, because she was very hot." Gavino pulls a gun on Diego. He tells his men to look after his guests. He and Diego are going into another room to have dessert. Fernanda looks on, terrified. She pleads, "No more blood."

When Diego and Gavino are alone in the other room, Diego accuses Gavino of not having the balls to kill him in front of the others. Gavino replies, "You and I have an enemy in common," and he proposes a partnership (sociedad). Diego is incredulous. "The only enemy I have is you," he tells Gavino. Gavino tells him that Circe is Diego's true and only enemy.

Circe, meanwhile, recognizes that she's in deep mierda. The DEA has her drugs, the police are after her, and Ramona has betrayed her. She tells one of her men, Gancho, to get more men, they need an army because the Colombians, Gavino, and the police are looking for them.

Gavino tells Diego that Circe is not what he thinks. "She put me in prison for what I didn't do. I'm going to get revenge, and you're going to help me." Diego says he won't let anyone hurt his woman. With a smile on his face, Gavino tells Diego how he pictured this scene over and over again when he was in prison. 'You sleeping with your worst enemy and not knowing it. Circe killed Eliseo."

Falsa Identidad - Capítulo 69 - Parte 3 de 3

Back at Gavino's fiesta table, Fernanda is frantic, while Salas and Augusto almost come to blows but are kept apart by Gavino's men, who insist that both of them sit back down. I'm not sure how this happens, but suddenly Deivid is able to grab the gun from one of Gavino's men, and Salas too suddenly has a gun in his hand. There's a brief standoff, but the last Gavino man with a gun gives in. Salas wants Fernanda to leave now while she can. She protests that she won't leave without Salas and Diego. Salas insists, and she finally agrees. The main Gavino guy gives her the keys to a car parked outside. Salas tells him to call down to the men outside to let her go. He does so. She gets into the car and drives off.

At Babel, Marlene, Gabi, and Paloma are talking about Nuria. Jim comes in and asks Marlene whether she's ready to do the dance that "you and I" have rehearsed. She hesitantly says yes and the two of them leave. Paloma is stunned. What's this "you and I" business?

Mateo and Ramona are together. Ramona wonders what it would be like to be a normal person. Mateo assures her she's not abnormal. [How would he know what's normal?] He points to some people and says, they're lovers. And the guy's wife is at home, being very normal. [I'm not sure what the point of any of this is.]

Diego tells Gavino that he doesn't believe that Circe killed Eliseo. Gavino describes the strange circumstances surrounding the death. Diego agrees they're strange, but he still doesn't believe that Circe killed his brother. Gavino offers to prove it to him. He calls Circe and holds the phone at a slight distance from his face, so Diego can hear as well. After some opening unpleasantries, he accuses her of killing Eliseo and sending him to jail for a crime he didn't commit. But now that he's out of prison, he's going to see that she's punished. He points out that she doesn't have Ramona or Felipa any longer, and what happens when Diego finds out what she did? Circe replies confidently, "That's not going to happen, because before you have time to open your mouth, I'll kill you. Just as I killed Eliseo, I'll kill you, Papa." Diego's stunned face ends the episode.

Juanita: Any chance Telemundo brings this back for 2nd Season ?

Oops, one small correction to part 3 of the recap. I said that Marlene, Gabi, and Paloma were at Babel. I meant to say Isabel, not Gabi.

Terrific recap, Juanita! This was a very exciting episode. And I thought all the actors were very, very good. Sergio Goyri is amazing. He plays a cold blooded killer and drug trafficker, but somehow manages to appear as "old school", someone who is certainly capable of loyalty. And, as he said last night, the one thing that matters to him is loyalty. And he's great at dark humor.

Luis Ernesto Franco was also very good. His bravery and refusal to be cowed by Gavino were notable. And Ignacio Salas, wow! I was cheering for him. I remembered when he saved Eliseo at least once. Let's hear it for grey-haired heroes. Somehow he and Deivid were on the same page, but Salas orchestrated the maneuver to outwit Gavino's random thugs, one of whom insulted Fernanda. And he scared our sniveling coward Disgusto into shutting up.

Gavino manipulated Circe perfectly, goading her into admitting having killed Eliseo.

Marlene, Jim is a significant upgrade from being bedded by a toad. Go for it!

JJ is kind of nuts, and Circe had a very good point. Who gets any drugs, much less a ton, back from the DEA?

When Isabel was confiding in Zoraida, I remembered how, early on, Zoraida was her friend and confidante who was with her in the hospital after Porfi's beating and the news she'd lost a baby.

I'm sort of surprised, but in a good way, that they haven't, at least so far, given us the weeks of etapa culminante and other countdowns. It does seem that things are coming to a head, but they haven't said much about how much time is left.

Hmmm. I thought they said Jugar con Fuego would be at 10:00, but deb is usually right.

Wonderful recap Juanita. So great I don't need to watch it, but I will, thanks to you making it so inviting. I seem to be a day behind watching, but give me a little break.

I'm glad Diego is no longer under the illusion that Circe is a "good" narco partner. He needs to back out completely of his promise to Circe. He would do well to start over with Fernanda, Salas, Isa and the two kids. Hopefully, that will take up the last third or fourth of the run.

Disgusto needs jail. It's too easy just to bump him off.

Also, I don't want to see Sergio Goyri sprawled in the dust, bleeding to death at Circe or Joselito's hand--I would like to see Gavino, whole, riding off into the sunset with his black hat on, intact (maybe exile). He's just too good to die.

great recap Juanita!

Jose is living good but I think his whole cartel consists of Topo, but he seems to be backed by the Costa Rica cartels who plan to profit from his actions.

love watching Gavino play with his puppets.

Marlene is way too clingy for me.

Circe is up against the wall but I wouldn't count her out.

once JJ learns of Diego, he won't have any choice but to go straight.

MANY thanks, novelera, Anita, and deb, for your helpful and insightful comments.

novelera, I agree that the acting was superb last night, with special kudos to Sergio Goyri and Luis Ernesto Franco. And I loved deb's description of Gavino playing with his puppets. And, like Anita, I hope that somehow Gavino will still be alive and well at the end of the novela, riding off into the sunset.

novelera, I burst out laughing at your "Let's hear it for grey-haired heroes." YES! I'd welcome some grey-haired heroines as well. :-)

As for how much time is left, deb's announcement about Jugar con Fuego was confirmed last night during one of Falsa's commercial breaks. Jugar will run for 10 episodes beginning Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the 9 pm time slot. So apparently Falsa Identidad has about 4 more weeks to go.

Gracias, Juanita. My fave: “After some opening unpleasantries, between Gavino and Circe. I too am puzzled how Deivid and Salas both got the jump on Gavino’s men, but it sure made for good TV.

I so enjoyed Gavino’s dinner party. Yay, at long last, Diego knows the truth.

arrg, I thought we were done with Disgusto, I guess it's like Gavino said, he didn't get this far because of his pretty face.

I've never been a fan of emotional people going for a drive, whew, Diego finally stopped at the edge of a cliff.

how many times have I thought they should burn the passports, now Circe has them as she waits for Diego in his room, what's her plan?

Blondie arrives in Mexico in his jet, (actually, I think that's the smallest plane made) breathes the fresh air.

Gavino is a mastermind, earlier I remember he told his guys not to kill Circe, he wanted to save her for when he got out, he also didn't give her up to his lawyer or the judge, now he sends Diego after her, Country boy justice, did he call it?

pinning Disgusto's death on the Hidalgo clan, brilliant, he needs to get rid them all.

and he pets his dog Mateos, first to get the goods on Diego tipping the DEA, second tracking down Disgusto.

(and why does skinny girl Nuria have puffy cheeks, I keep thinking she just came from the dentist).

Paloma and Porfi, who woulda thought?

and Chucho is walking back into the action, with a promise to his mom, he won't make the same mistake.

Deb: I hope law enforcement agencies take down Gavino soon.

Thanks, deb, for the clever mini-cap!

Diego used one of my favorite expressions with Gavino: de tal palo tal astilla (lit. a splinter or chip from a stick or branch) or like father, like son or a chip off the old block. Gavino has huevos to spare. He gives Diego the gun and offers to be shot.

Marlene is very uncomfortable about telling Paloma about the partner dance with Jim and later confesses to Isa that she loves him like an adolescent.

I LOVED Paloma and Porfirio in major lust. What was especially funny was his looking at his nether regions when she left and saying that she at least could bring him some ice.

Disgusto - the cat with nine lives - really poked the bear griping to Gavino about his not having killed Diego and Fernanda. At first I thought Piochas' blow killed him.

We see Gavino's plot working beautifully. I can't quote it exactly, but what he wants is to rob Circe of being with Diego and for both of them to be suspicious and to not be happy together. And Flor suggests to Circe that maybe JJ was right about a betrayal to the DEA within the inner circle; i.e. Diego.

I watched Gavino's royal a** chewing of Piochas twice. He can't believe a politician got the drop on un sicario. It was a classic, expletive laden rant and Piochas had his head down and almost looked like a whipped dog.

I’m way behind – I’ve just seen Monday’s 2-hour show and read the recap. Outstanding job, novelera, and very much appreciated, believe me. All the slang and bleeped words mean that I’m constantly straining to understand what the heck is going on. I still don’t get why Diego called the DEA – that blows Circe’s big business deal and leaves her broke and in danger. Has this been discussed and I missed it?

I haven’t read the subsequent recaps yet, but I will when I’ve seen the episodes. BIG thanks to you all!!

Caray Caray

Heartfelt gratitude to you, Anita, and the Caray rescue squad. I just can’t imagine Caray Caray not being here for all of us. All the recappers and commenters have helped me through several years of telenovelas, and I love reading how everyone reacts to various story lines. It’s a warm and wonderful community.

I haven’t joined in much since I quit recapping, as I watch the shows now in taped bunches, and am always behind. Also, I’m on the west coast, in LA, and it seems like the best time for me to visit Caray is in the afternoon. By then, people back east are already starting dinner and turning on the evening news, and the party is over at Caray and somebody has turned out the lights for the day.

I’m sure there are many other readers like me, behind, so the number of daily commenters probably isn’t a good indicator of how many folks are enjoying each day’s recap. Recapping is fun, but also a ton of work, so a big thank-you to all you recappers!!! And to all of you for being there.

Thanks for the kind words, Maggie! Diego was outraged by the Colombians' demand that they move a whole ton of merca in order for he and Circe to get out of the biz. So he came up with the idea to alert the DEA so that JJ's whole shipment would be seized. I suspect that his thinking then was that he and Circe would run. But, like a lot of Diego's plans, it hasn't exactly panned out.

Circe is now being threatened by JJ. Of course, now, Diego won't be mind this that much. But he'd rather take revenge himself than have the Colombians do it.

If anyone else has a better memory or understanding of why Diego turned over the drugs, we'd like to know.

identidad and caray

Great comments! I'm expecting company to arrive any minute, so I'm not going to say much more than that. Like Maggie, and, I'm sure, many others, I'm very grateful to Anita and all the other folks who helped save CarayCaray.

Maggie, one more thing. Several of us watching the Telemundo novelas are located on the West Coast (novelera and I are California).

Arrgh, company is here. Bye.

Thanks, Deb.

Paloma and Porf were hilarious. I just don't see Porf dealing with her neediness, but who knows. If you can't love the one you're with, hook up with who's there.

Poor Piochas. Bested by Augusto. Oh the shame.

Joselito is so like a kid. Happy to be back home in the Mexico he loves.
