Amar a Muerte, 2/25/19, Episode 77: To Tell the Truth—Will the Real Father Please Stand Up?

* Montilla and his fully-black-suited and armed posse raid Al’s place. Gancho has managed to evade them and has arrived where Al is hiding, wounded, somewhere in the bowels of his fortress. He’s bleeding. They manage to drag him away, swiftly followed by the police, who, of course, are a minute too late and they lose track of what’s left of the mighty Sierra Cartel gang.
* Jules stands between the two men. She needs an explanation—NOW. Beltino tells her they have to leave. He’ll explain later. Juls balks. She’s not leaving without her ma. Beltino gets in her face. He grabs at her and LCJ, watching all this tells her to mind him. Juls is so confused. One of them acts just like her father and the other one looks just like her father.
* Candy and Johny are standing in Lucia’s living room. Candy is still looking for forgiveness. Johny is pushing Luci to forgive her, too. He thinks everybody deserves a second chance. Luci says Candy used up all her second chances. When she asks Candy what she’s really there for, she just answers that she wants to spend a few days with Luci in the city, talk, and maybe Luci will change her mind.

* Lupe and Vale were taken back to headquarters and are sequestered in Montilla’s office. They want to leave. They need to know what is happening to Juls. They are told they can’t leave until Montilla returns. He’ll let them know what’s going on. Meanwhile, Vale learns Guille was set free.
* Guille is walking around Renata’s apartment telling her all the things he missed in the house (except for the cat box, which probably is no longer in the living room). He and Ren have decided to go visit the Castillos and thank them for withdrawing the charges, when Guille gets a phone call from Vale. She tells him where she is and about Lucho. The two head for headquarters instead.
* Barb is bothered by having to welcome another unwelcome guest in her house. She’s tired of all the company. Juls balks at Beltino claiming paternity. LCJ tells her it is what it is—the truth. Beltie is more concerned with not knowing El Alacrán’s fate. Jake says he’s probably in police hands. Beltie says that is like having nothing—he’ll just escape.
* They’ve taken Al to another hidey-hole with all the comforts of an aluminum cot and some blankets. He’s bleeding. Al knows he can’t go to a hospital and wants a doc. Gancho tells him there aren’t any they can trust. Gancho gets testy. He says it’s Al’s fault they are in this mess with his obsession with El Chino. Al tells Gancho he can’t die—he’s going to be a daddy. Gancho has a change of heart and leaves to see what he can do.
* Montilla has called his boss. He’s absolutely delirious with his haul of teddy bears (stuffed with stuff). Yeah, he lost El Al, but he got most of his men. It’s quite a blow to the Sierra Cartel.
* Luci and Johny are talking about Candy. The two of them are trying to sound reasonable, while Johny is pushing reconciliation, Luci is pushing back. Candy returns from powdering her nose, claiming she’s a bit tired. Luci grudgingly agrees to let her spend one night, but then she leaves. [ed. note—Why on earth didn’t Luci just tell Johny to take her to his place and put her up. I guess we’ll see in succeeding episodes if this was stupidity or a plot propeller for her presence. Sorry, I digressed.] Eva comes prancing in. She takes one look at Candy and figures her for a cockroach that needs to be squished. Johny introduces her as Luci’s mother. Candy gushes. Eva cringes. Luci has Johny usher her out. With glee, Eva says that now she understands so much about Lucia. Luci wants to know if the workers are finished at their place yet? No, Eva will be sticking around forever, to make sure the house is not turned into a Bed and Breakfast (actually she said bordello).
* Mateo has made an unexpected visit to Camilo. He comes to the point. Did León ever engage in dirty business? Like laundering money for el Cartel de la Sierra? Cam wonders if he’s talking about Lucia and Johny. No, Mateo takes his time to reply—it’s Eva, then he takes another swig.
* Barbara doesn’t think they should have told Juls the truth. She wasn’t ready. Jake tells her it’s not a matter of being ready, it was a matter that it was time. So, says Barbara, looking into his icy blue eyes, when is he going to tell his folks. They’re probably just as confused.
* Al calls Eva. He’s bleeding. She wants to come flying to be by his side. He tells her it’s too dangerous and she can’t come. He hangs up on her.
* Lupe and Vale are still stuck in Montilla’s office waiting for him. Lupe gets a text from Juls saying she’s ok. She’s with Beltino and he’s taking her back home. When Monty returns, he scolds Vale for showing up at the site of the action. She wants to see Lucho. He objects, then relents. Lupe learned it was Vale that called the police.
* Beltino is acting up just like El Chino as he talks to Juls, while Juls is convinced this “university prof” guy was paid by El Chino to say these things. Not true. Why else would he come to rescue her. Juls wonders why he wanted to rescue her. She reminds him he never believed she was his daughter. So then, Juls wants to know who is the other guy? Beltino tells her he’s some old guy who’s a millionaire. Life (or death) is funny that way. Beltie had always wanted to be a millionaire. He admits to not having been a good pa when she was little, but there’s something she doesn’t know. Lupe was unfaithful with some guy, so he’d always doubted she was his child. He asks forgiveness. He doesn’t want to lose her again. Again, Juls asks why he came to rescue her. When he’d heard she’d been kidnapped, a weird feeling came over him and he knew she was his. Juls wants to know if Lupe knows all of this. He says Lupe knows almost everything—except that he’s El Chino.
* Guille and Ren bring Vale home. She’s a mess. She’s torn up with guilt because Lucho’s death was all her fault. Guille tries to convince her it wasn’t her fault. She begs not to be left alone. They promise not to leave her side.
* Silvina helps Luci’s mother settle in to one of the guest rooms. Johny, hovering, notes how happy Luci’s made her mother. She replies curtly that he gets the credit. He’s the one who brought her (with her little black roll-bag in tow). Johny urges Luci to talk to her. Sooner or later she would have to face that part of her life and this is as good a time as any. (If looks could kill, Johny’d be a throw rug on the floor.) Luci wants to be left alone. With Silvi and Johny gone, she’s left with her mother. Luci wants to know why she’s here. If it’s for a loving reconciliation, she’s wrong. Well, Sr. Johny came…Luci already knows that. Well, can’t a mother want to see her child? A mother, yes, replies Luci, but she’s never been a mother. She’s fulfilled her duty as a daughter by sending her money. She wants a better reason. It seems mamá is envious of Luci living like a princess, while she lives off the pittance she receives from her. Candy thought she’d taught her something about men. Luci counters that with the only thing Candy taught her was to hate life, hate herself. Luci looks Candy up and down. She can’t see she’s lacking much, she’s well put-together, attractive. Candy interjects—the two of them are quite alike, only she’s with truckers and drunks while Luci is with millionaires.
* (Thank goodness we can leave those two and move back to Mateo.) He’s telling Cam all about his investigation and what his informant told him about someone at the head of Carvajal dealing with the Sierra people. At first he thought it was Lucia, but then he saw Eva at an assignation with El Alacrán. He thought maybe León had left instructions for Eva to carry on. On hearing this, Cam blows up. León hated all that drug and narco stuff. He would never have sold himself out for something like that. Cam wants to know if he’s talked to Eva. Yes, he has. Eva told him to stop investigating. Her reaction only confirmed his suspicions. He wonders what she lacked in her life to make her do such a thing. He can’t keep quiet. He can’t become an accomplice. But there’s a problem. She’s pregnant and he just can’t send her and his child to prison. He loves her. He can’t betray her. Cam says he’ll think about it and get back to him.
* Eva is calling some anonymous doctor. She’ll send him money and the directions. Poor Al gets an aspirin and some water from Gancho. He’s bleeding. Eva dials Al but Gancho answers. Al agrees to have the doctor she’s sending treat him.
* LCJ takes a call from Cam. It’s urgent he talk to LCJ, in person. He’ll be careful going there.
* Guille and Ren are still comforting Vale when Bobble-Head Johny appears, nodding and bowing and expressing his condolences regarding Lucho. When Lucia appears, he relates the story to her. Guille mentions that Vale was there when it all went down (and Lucho permanently) and Jacobo was there, too. They discuss why Jacobo should have been there. Johny says, why not, he’s a sicario. Rather scornfully, Luci points out he was there because of the sequester of his daughter. (Vale explains the scene, but she was blubbering so, I couldn’t understand her, and I don’t think the others could either.) Johny thinks he was in on it. Guille sticks up for Jacobo. He also thanks Luci for what she did to free him. (I guess Ren filled him in on Vicky’s video broadcast.) Sergio arrives. Luci makes Johny follow her to the home office.
* Luci is furious with Johny. What on earth was he thinking, bringing her mother. He doesn’t know Candy. She’s none of his business. Johny thought he was doing something good for Luci. Luci indicates if he really loves her the way he says he does, he would have learned to listen to her better. With forked-tongue flicking, Johny swears he would never do anything to hurt her. Luci goes over to the fireplace and leans on the mantle and catches her breath in sorrow. Johny thinks he has her where he wants her, vulnerable, and approaches to embrace her. She tells him not to touch her because he’s not doing her any good.
* Beltino, true to his word, has brought Juls back to Silvi’s house to a joyful reunion between Juls and Lupe. Panchito is there and hugs her. Beltie observes the happy family scene. Juls says Beltie has something to tell Lupe. Beltie wants Panchito to leave, but Lupe wants him to stay. Juls starts it by saying that Beltran is not her guardian angel. Beltie takes over and says he’s her husband. Oh, and he IS Chino Valdéz. Panchito is exasperated and Lupe is, too, for different reasons. Beltie says he just showed up in this body after his execution. Lupe looks at him. She says she knew it and he denied it. She screams at him. She doesn’t want to have anything else to do with him. She runs off inside the house. (I guess we know she and Panchito are end game.)
* Camilo shows up at Barbie’s and the two have a nice chat about death and transmigration over coffee. Barb says Death never goes away. She’s always around, but only appears when she wants to. Cam tells her Death Chick appeared to him, too, but never said a word, so he didn't get any answers. To which Barb tells him he’ll just have to die first.
* The doc is bent over treating Al. He’s bleeding. Gancho warns the doc not to let Al die. Eva calls and wants to talk to the doc. Gancho tells him the doc is busy and for her not to come. Ooops, someone has come. Death Chick is at the door, or better said, Al is at HER door.
* Mateo walks in on Eva as she’s hurrying out someplace. She says she has to hurry to the hospital. A friend of hers was in a serious accident and no, she doesn’t want him to accompany her.
* Downstairs, Mat and Guille share some quality time. Mat thinks Guille should come back to Carvajal to save his father’s company. Guille doesn’t understand. Mat says in time he will.
* Sergio is telling Vale how he knew Lucho since he was three. Juls calls. She’s ok. Jacobo and Beltran got her out. Vale tells Juls she’s not ok. They killed Lucho.
* Beltino goes home to Alicia. She wants to know where he’s been. He’s been dealing with some matters relating to his former life. He asks how Javier is. She says he’s ok, but she’s not. They agree to go see the opera singer inside Beltran’s former student’s body. (I guess we know she and Beltino are end game.)
* Candy snoops around in the Carvajal home office. Luci catches her. The hunter is now the hunted—the deer in the headlights look. Looking for the safe?
* LCJ has cleaned up a bit. It was a bit dusty out there. Camilo is glad he survived. Then he tells him what Mateo told him. It’s Eva, up to her neck in money laundering and dealing with the mismisimo El Alacrán of the Sierra Cartel.

[Ok, all done. Tomorrow, my priority is to see what happens with the Luci-Candy confrontation in the home office.]

I have so many questions that I'll wait until later to post.
I must say that all the recappers are doing a fantastic and greatly appreciated job.

I'm sure this has been asked and answered before. How many chapters are there going to be?

Victoria: How did Lucho get whacked ?

Anita: LCJ is the Latino Sonny Corinthos. Untouchable!

Good Morning, Patio! Anita, recap is excelente! Thank you!

"Deer in the headlights look" most definitely, but I do hope the deer don't get offended for being associated with the floosey mama. And I like how you put "He's bleeding" in bold. Wow, Alacran actually bleeds...and it's RED! What a shocker :-)

Eva wants to go see Alacran? That's gonna open up a can of more worms. His men will see her and maybe recognize her...or at least have a way of finding out who she is. Can't wait to see what Gancho will do if he finds out she is Mat's wife.

Looks like Vale may win over Loopy...at least Loopy is being civil to her.

So Chino did have good reason to doubt that Juls is his daughter. I'm really surprised that Loopy actually cheated on Chino. She has always seemed to kiss the ground he walks on. Now I'm wondering who the other guy was...another sicario with blue eyes??

Pobrecito LCJ, he thought Guille and Vale were giving him headaches. His eldest spawn just gave him a stupendous migraine.

Steve, Lucho was shot point blank by Gancho. He was trying to keep Gancho from getting to Loopy.

Victoria, I've read that there are 87 episodes. Since the TN ends on Monday, Mar. 11th, there are 10 episodes left. I'm just wondering if there will be a 2-hour finale on Monday???

Thank you, Anita. I Especially liked the Gabe at you kept them being us.. "He's bleeding." I

So..why has John brought Candy to Luci ?

I thought Lucho would maybe kill someone , not be killed protecting someone. That was a twist.

The strong winds are over , and it is such, clear, and cold here..30. Have a good dayv, all. I continue to keep on keeping on. No choice.

Gabe???...that was supposed to be "way"

"Them" was supposed to be "reminding" sorry...careless...as I am rushing out the door and did not proofread my comment.

Great work, Anita. My faves:

Eva comes prancing in. She takes one look at Candy and figures her for a cockroach that needs to be squished. Not that I disagree, but the only one with the right to do that is Lucia.

If looks could kill, Johny’d be a throw rug on the floor.

With forked-tongue flicking, Johny swears he would never do anything to hurt her.

Johny -- who deserves the worst fate -- is obviously trying to intimidate Lucia by dredging up her past. How does he expect to benefit from that unless he is trying to blackmail her into marriage by threatening disclosure? Shouldn't he have realized that he could have been sabotaging his own plan by bringing her to the mansion where Eva could find out?

Dona Muerte visiting El Alacran... now quite what I expected, but what sort of a body does he deserve to be in to pay for his sins?

Thank You Anita thank you thank you.

Ya know, with their business endeavors together notwithstanding, Eva and Alacran have a better relationship by far than she does with Mateo. PSA: Dripping a trail of testosterone, even when accompanied with "Toxic Masculinity" still beats a whiny little nerd with NONE. And she and Alacran actually have a lot in common mostly centered around their shared interests.

So Loopy cheated and Juls could be the result. Wonder with what? Juls looks to be primarily human. Pooch-O, be careful what you wish for.

After what she did to her own daughter, WHY does Lucia even talk to FloozieMom? Second question: Has Lucia lost her mind allowing it to spend the night? Third question: Why was she not escorted out at gunpoint by "Security" (which, BTW does not appear to exist) when she was discovered ransacking the place? It is so much simpler being a guy. You just jump up and beat the living daylights out of them and physically carry them to the front door and Heave Hoe. Are the writers just trying to drive us crazy?

"sort of a body does he deserve to be in to pay for his sins?" Maybe Lucia's teenage Sister who still lives with the cockroach. Yes it was nice to see Death Chick again. What a sweetie. :-)

We haven't seen all of Alacran's crimes, so we have no idea how many there were. We did hear him lament his horrible youth and we've seen him pet and coddle his wabbits. He seemed pleased at the prospect of fatherhood, however unrealistic it would be in his situation. Dona Muerte has a strange sense of humor, so could he possibly end up in the body of a child with decent parents who would love him and send him to good schools? He's not a stupid guy and might appreciate the irony of the situation.

Lucia should have called security and had Candela thrown out, but she may not have out of fear she would go to the gutter press and tell all. She is currently in a position to pay her off to leave the country and not look back, so that would be my recommendation.

Thank you all for stopping by so early, too (for me anyway). Lots of thoughts swirling around in contemplation for where this is going to go next.

We saw one mother and child reunion go well, the other one not so well. Can't wait for JudyB to weigh in with her keen insight.

I have a feeling that one day in the mansion for Candy will turn into several. I pity poor Silvina. She seems to have to do all the housework and the cooking and bringing tea and water to all the sibs. That's a heavy burden. If they can afford Fab and half a dozen security guards, she should go on strike until they hire someone to do the chores. Then she can read her coffee grounds in peace.

Candy will surely feel this is like Motel 8 on steroids and milk it for all its worth. OTOH, Luci has very little reputation left to maintain so she just might go for risking exposure. It might be inspirational to others in similar situations. She had and has no other friends of Leon's stature to answer to and she has her hands full with Johny and Jacobo and Eva.

Mommy won't go quietly into the night after getting a taste of Paree en Mexico, so a trip to the real Paree by herself probably won't be in the cards. Don't know why I'm coming down so hard on the intrusion, but I resented her appearance and having to write her into the recap. Yuck. Well, we did get one hint about her own background. Her own mother forced her into prostitution, so I guess she felt it was an inherited career to be passed down.

Loved the Beltie-Jake-Juls scene right after the shooting. Juls, though still skeptical, has decided to accept the unbelievable story the two men have told her. Lupe has, but that doesn't mean she's going to take him back--and I don't think Beltino wants to come back. He's been domesticated by Javier and Alicia.

Loved the episode and your recap Anita. Yes, lots of blood in this one, and el Alacrán is such a wiry little fella, I'm surprised he had any left by the time the doc got there.

Did want to clear up one thing about the Lupita/Chino situation. There was a time when he disappeared out of her life for a LONG time without explanation. (on a job no doubt) So she did get involved with another guy, feeling that she was abandoned. After he returned and reclaimed her, he refused to believe the subsequent pregnancy was due to him. But clearly it was. As she insisted.

Okay, back to the episode:

I LOVED that moment when Juliana refused to believe Beltrino was her father because of the tender, intense hug. Only when he switched to his "old" self and started BERATING her, did she start to realize "Yeah, this does SOUND like him." Sad, but also funny.

Same thing happened a few episodes ago with Lupita. When she told Beltrino about Juliana's relationship with Valentina, he switched from kindly, enlightened professor mode to berating her about being a bad mom and screwing up her daughter. Again, her eyes widened like "Wow, that sounds like my Chino. Whassup?" I do love how the actor switches gears so convincingly. This is his role of a lifetime.

And honestly, the actor playing Johny has the role of a lifetime too. He's in more scenes than anyone else, he never drops character. He's completely into it, not just with posture (loved your Bobblehead quip), gestures, and oily, obsequious language, but even his mirada which just seems to drip toxic syrup. Ay yi yi, he's killing this role! Incredible. You can hate him all you want, but he's tearing up every scene he's in.

And as much as I love our blue-eyed hunk, his stoic performance in no way matches that of Beltrino and Johny. Those two are pulling off a tour de force. And LCJ is not the only blue-eyed hunk anyway. Let's not forget our cuddly bear Montilla. I usually like 'em lean and long, but this actor is changing my mind for sure.

In short, wonderful title, "Bobblehead" was super, and especially loved this:

(If looks could kill, Johny’d be a throw rug on the floor.)

We can but hope. Johny is like some fungus which just never, ever goes away.

As always, can't wait 'till tomorrow! Bring it on! And thanks again, Anita.

Eva? She’s pregnant..(who is the daddy?) Mateo is figuring it all, out, her maybe baby daddy is bleeding. His cohorts are acting like little nurses, she’s in deep doody and still has the nerve to insult Lucia about during the manse into a bordello?,!!, hope her fate is really terrible.

Leon turned the house into a bordello the minute he brought the skank in! She's slept with three men there within a few months.

JudyB--Right on! And your parting gift: Johny as Fungus.

I did a couple of internet searches and couldn't find any estimates on multi-generational prostitution. While I find it to be a believable concept in history there is no good reason for it to be happening in the 21st Century.

Candela likely threw Lucia to the wolves so she would suffer the same indignities and never get out of that hell.

RGV Chick: Death Chick needs to make a visit to the following people:

1.) Johnny

2.) Lucia: DUMB BLONDE is annoying me to no end LOL.

3.) Loopy, Crazy, Whacky Lupita

4.) Eva: Karma better be cooking a very special diet of Karma with Anvils on it :)

5.) El Alcaran

6.) Some other people too many to remind everybody about.

UA—entierly logical presumption. Only a few hours to go to find out. See you all tomorrow.

Steve: Thanks, do you work for Montilla?

Or does he work for you? :-)

I will just say this about Lucia and Candy. Wounds inflicted on a helpless child by a parent never heal. You may learn how to live with them or overcome their effects, but they are still always there under the surface.
