Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia, Capítulo 131, Thursday, March 21, 2019; Yolo uncooperative as usual and Pancho puts an end to his mustache masquerade

We begin with Ari vowing that he will walk again.

At the hospital, Pancho continues with his mustache debacle, speaking in two different voices, one as “Pancho” and the other sounding like a radio announcer. Susana wants a good explanation as to why he is talking so differently. They see Dr. Carlos in the hallway and he gives them his card as a pediatrician. Carlos offers to Daniela to help Ari and give him exercises to do.

Temo shows up with the gift of an electric keyboard for Ari. As Temo goes to give Ari a hug, Audifáz shows up at the door. “Aristotelis, can we talk?”

At the Córsega apartment, Eugenio, Blanca and Imelda are in the living room. Blanca and Eugenio are talking about Ari’s accident and Eugenio says he hopes that Ari recovers well. Then Imelda starts saying that this happened to Ari because it’s a punishment from God because he is living his life wrongly. Basically she says that he had it coming. Blanca gets angry and says she is not going to allow her to spew such hatred in their home and reads her the riot act. Imelda then says, “How dare YOU speak to me that way?” Blanca tells her, “Well if things don’t change, we cannot go on living under the same roof together.”

Blanca holds her ground against Imelda but Eugenio is kind of wishy-washy trying to make peace. He tries to calm Blanca down, but Blanca boldly says, “No!” [Seems to me that Eugenio should be standing up to his mother and taking his wife’s side. It’s what my husband would do. It’s what my sons would do too if there was disagreement like that between their wives and me.]

The Rey family is having a meal together at home and Yolo announces that she is ready to forgive her mother. Her brothers just look at her and Neto says, “The reality is that we can never be the same kind of family again.” Then Yolo says, “You could give her another chance. You might be able to find the love again.” Neto says, “Sorry, but that is never going to happen. I stopped loving her a long time ago when she abandoned us; she just hurt me too deeply.” Then Neto says he has an announcement to make. “Grecia and I are novios.” Then Yolo stands up and says, “No dad! I do not want to put up with Grecia.” Neto tells her to sit down, but Yolo says, “But mother has just returned for us.” Neto tries to tell her that she is not a child anymore and love goes in cycles and he no longer loves her mother. “In fact, your mother was the one who ended things between us.”

Neto tries to explain to Yolo about his relationship with Grecia and even the twins are getting it, but Yolo refuses. She threatens to go live with her mother and storms out of the room.

At the hospital, Audi enters Ari’s room. Audi says, “Do you think your friend could step out for a minute so we can talk?” Ari defiantly says, “He’s not my friend, he’s my novio and anything you have to say you can say in front of him.” But Temo takes the high road and tells Ari that it’s better that he speak to his father alone. “After all, you probably have a lot to say.”

At Susana’s house, Grecia and Crisanta talk. Grecia doesn’t think that buying the bar is such a good idea either. Crisanta says that Susana and Pancho think the same way. Grecia tells her that she already has her dress shop business. However Crisanta says that it just doesn’t satisfy her. Then Grecia says that investing herself in her family is what is most important. Cristanta says, “The bar was just a fleeting idea. But the family…the family is forever.” They change the subject to Grecia’s love life with Neto and she shares that the twins are such good boys, but Yolo is really hard. Before Crisanta leaves, she says that they both have to face their problems with the best attitude.

Susana is watching one of Blanca’s videos online. This recipe is called “Caldo de Piedra.” (Stone soup, it’s a soup made with heated rocks!) She shows the chopped tomatoes, cilantro, onions, and green chilis. Susana is trying to follow along with not much success. Sebas comes up and he offers to help and she puts him to work chopping onions. They have some good mother son time talking about how he needs to speak up if something is wrong so they can solve the problem together. In the video, Blanca shows some heated rocks that she puts into the soup. The soup is supposed to cook with the hot rocks inside the pot.

Back at the Córsega discussion with Blanca and Imelda, Blanca summarizes how she has changed over the years and grown. She learned to drive a car. She learned English. She learned to make cooking videos. And she learned to be open and accept Ari as he is. Imelda says, “I’m never going to accept such deviant behavior! What are you going to do now, Blanca? Put up a rainbow flag above the door? I’m not going to put up with this and if you don’t like it, you can leave MY HOUSE!” Blanca just tells her that at this time, they cannot go find another place to live. They are helping out Daniela with her triplets and Eugenio is suffering from his problems. You are the one who needs to change and understand.”

At the hospital, Audi asks Ari if he is in pain. Ari says, “No they gave me a sedative.” Audi tells him that he is sure that he will recover from the accident and mentions that he is in debt to Pancho for paying the hospital bill. Ari says, “thank you but now. I will work to pay of the debt.” Audi says, “Well if you need any help…” Ari responds, “Actually I would like another type of help from you. I don’t even know what you are doing here today. You hate me and I think that you would be happier if I would have died in the accident.” Audi says, “No Ari! Don’t ever think that way. It’s just that I don’t have the words for you right now. I’m just not ready right now…but I promise that one day I will be ready.” As Audi turns around to leave, he comes face to face with Polita.

As Polita comes in they discuss Audi’s visit and Ari says he felt a little closer to his father. He asks Polita if she still loves Audi and she doesn’t answer. But then there is a knock at the door and it’s Eduardo with a gift of candy for Ari. He apologizes for coming without calling first, but Ari says “Thank you so much!” Eduardo tells Ari that he can count on him too. Ari thanks him for being there for him and his mom. After Eduardo leaves, Ari gives his stamp of approval.

Back in Susana’s kitchen, the children come home and want to know what she is cooking. Then Crisanta arrives in the kitchen and surprises Susana. “Mother, I thought you would be busy negotiating your new business.” Crisanta replies, “No, I decided my place was with my family.” Then Susana asks Crisanta to try the soup, but it looks undone. Then the kids get to work like “Junior Master Chef” and help Susana complete the meal.

Pancho comes home and still doing the ½ mustache thing with Pancho one on side and a radio announcer on the other. Crisanta comes out with some very large scissors to cut off the rest of Pancho’s mustache. Then Susana glues a fake ½ mustache on him and the entire Pancho is back. Turns out that Pancho has been faking the whole thing as a test to see if Susana liked him better the formal way. Susana is not happy to hear this and neither are the rest of the children as they stand there with folded arms. Crisanta then takes the children to the kitchen to get ready for dinner. After the children leave, Susana says she always loved the authentic Pancho and never wants him to change. She likes his ‘no manches’ personality better.

Neto goes to talk with Yolo and she actually starts asking him to understand her and how her own life was ripped from her. All of a sudden she has had to move thousands of miles away, go to a new school, adopt a new language, find out that the Córsegas are family and now being asked to accept that her father has a new girlfriend is too much to process. She makes it very clear that, “The life I want is in the United States!” Changing her tone a little she then says, “But if my mother were to stay in Oaxaca and if we could all live together, then I would feel better.” Neto tells her not to make abrupt decisions. “All I’m asking you to do is think about this.”

Yolo skypes with Guido and tells him how her father doesn’t understand her. She tells him, “Someday I just want to escape from here.” Guido tells her that he can come with her so they can see the world together and love together.

Neto goes to see Eugenio and he asks Neto how things are going with his children. “Not too well. The twins don’t say much, but they seem to be assimilating. And with Yolo, everything bothers her. She wants to go live with her mother and she isn’t accepting my relationship with Grecia.” Eugenio tells him that these things take time and somehow life will surprise him. “I love you” says Eugenio. Neto tells Eugenio that he loves him too.

Dinner turned out fabulous in Susana’s kitchen. The whole family just loved the soup!

As Blanca helps Daniela with the triplets, she reminds her that time goes by very quickly and she needs to take more pictures and more videos. Daniela thanks her for being there for her and giving her such a good example.

There is a time jump and all of a sudden, the babies are sitting up by themselves.

Frida comes in full of make up and is going to show Yolo. Blanca doesn’t think Yolo is a good example for Frida, but Daniela says it’s normal for Frida to look up to an older girl.

Carlos shows up to accompany Daniela to work as a “friend.”

Ariana shows up at Neto’s place in the morning to take her children to school. Neto is not happy to see her and says the agreement is that he takes them in the morning and she can pick them up in the afternoon. Before Neto walked in Ariana and Yolo seemed to be discussing about Yolo living with her, but Ariana said her place was too small.  Then Neto says he is going across the hall to see his father. He and Eugenio talk about a time when they all went to the park to kick around the soccer ball and what a precious memory it is. Blanca comes in and she offers him coffee. Then Eugenio says, “We just took a picture of us and it came out really nice.” He says it twice and doesn’t realize he did. Blanca tells Neto that Eugenio is getting worse and worse.

Cynthia, wonderful recap and title! Thank you. I loved “ mustache masquerade” and also your comment about Eugenio not taking his wife Blanca’s side. That seems to have always been the problem. I was happy that Blanca spoke her mind and was not bullied into submission by nasty Imelda. Ari also did a fine job not caving into Audi and his nebulous message about “someday”. As for Pancho, he made me laugh and smile when he explained his act to his “Susanita”.

One more thing, I liked Ari and then Temo realizing Eduardo is interested in Polita. That was cute. : )

Outstanding, just outstanding Cynthia.

“Mustache masquerade” and "Then the kids get to work like “Junior Master Chef” and help Susana complete the meal" were gold nuggets.

“Blanca tells her, “Well if things don’t change, we cannot go on living under the same roof together.” While that was wonderful, Blanca telling Imelds THEY would not be moving was even better. Evict Imelda now I say.

"Eugenio should be standing up to his mother and taking his wife’s side". Yes. That is Eugenio's Achilles heel. (I typed "hell" first - think that was subliminal :))

“I’m just not ready right now…” One of life’s cruel ironies is that time is fleeting. You may never have another chance – to forgive, to understand, to love. Audi had a golden opportunity that he squandered once again.

I liked the mustache silliness.

And Jarifa, the highlight for me was the fact Eduardo was smitten dawning Ari and Temo. Temo seemed delighted. What a difference it would make in all their lives. However, Polita has never said she doesn't love Audi. Loved "nebulous message".

All the love in the world cannot fix what is wrong with Eugenio. If only it could.

Excellent Cynthia. Thank you so much.

Diana

Diana, I am hoping that Polita is able to leave Audi in the past and have a future with someone else. After all that Audi has done and hasn’t done, he cannot be trusted. Yes, the mustache silliness. Susana sure learned how sensitive Pancho López is and how her seemingly “constructive” criticism (is any criticism really constructive if you are on the receiving end? 🤔) had really hurt him. He still looked like a dog kicked to the curb. Well,at least that plot is closed with a good result.

Thanks Cynthia. Always enjoy the "red Cynthia" coming through, and how fortunate you are that your husband would take your side in a dispute with mom. Ditto for your daughter-in-laws. My husband would never directly disagree with his mom. On anything. Very difficult. However, I have always had the impression that in Latino households the Mother was sacred and it was unthinkable to be anything but compliant with "the one who gave you life". Mind you, I'm only going on what I've learned from telenovelas...not the most reliable I'm sure!

Happy to know there has been a time jump. Time to wrap up this story and all the PSA's in a nice big bow.

And agree with everybody else..."Mustache Masquerade". Great writing indeed!

Cynthia: You are amazing.

Jarifa: Susana & the kids cooking together was cool.

Judy: I'm looking forward to seeing Stupid Yolo getting her anvil once Guido does something harmful to her soon.

Cynthia, thank you once again for a great recap.

Maybe I will change my name to Susanita.

It seems that the living arrangement of Imelda , Eugenii, and Blanca is becoming more and more strained as they are feeling with Euvenio's issues and Imelda's increasing nastiness and bullying.I was blessed to have a wonderful husband who always was ON my side no matter what...and likewise. We always said that all our stress and problems came from outside our marriage...work, parents, siblibgs, children. We were the ones everybody came to go "fix" things for them or "make something happen." Then, we looked at each other and did our best to support each other so that we could help each other or others.I sure miss him and his unwavering love, help, protection, and support. He used to say, "I'm doing this for you" when he helped someone in my family. My mother used to say "you are so lucky to have him" , and I would tell them "and YOU'RE so lucky I have him." I

Well, it is a gray here , but the rain appears to have stopped.

P.s. I always love to read the wise and witty comments from the patio peeps. Have a good day , all.

Thank you for your recap, Cynthia, and I love "mustache masquerade"! I don't know how that actor switches "personalities" as quickly as he covers his 'stach/no-'stache. He really is talented.

"Ari says, “thank you but now. I will work to pay of the debt.” Audi says, “Well if you need any help…” This just says it all about Audi. No declarations of YES I WILL PAY FOR THE OPERATION BECAUSE IT IS MY PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY OR DUTY. Just nothing ... from the family's biggest loser. And just like in real life, some people never change.

I almost gave Blanca a standing ovation when she told off Jabba The Hutt. Sad thing is, they are unable to move out. There would be financial repercussions (rent! moving expenses!) and it would really throw Eugenio's dementia for a loop. He knows his way around that house.

Eugenio just sitting there, doing nothing, again reflects his codependency on Imelda. Momma's boy. All three of her sons are like that. With the onset of Eugenio's Alzheimer's disease, he really is unable to do much else, as he becomes more dependent on others. It's just a shame he never stood up against his mother, ever.

Blanca has grown more as a person than any other character, in both seasons of this telenovela. She is more than ready to take over as matriarch.

OT: I found this on my PBS OnDemand this week. The series is from 2017 and is called “Craft in America” . Only the first two episodes were posted and were about the relationship between the USA and Mexico in the terms of arts and crafts. Oaxaca was a major focus as well as Chicago. I learned a lot.

doris, you called it with the term “codependency” in that family between the sons and Imelda. This is clearly a case where “family” did not support the sons in what they might have been. It was pathetic that Audi would even allow his son to feel so financially responsible for his family. I have always felt sorry for Ari for that misplaced responsibility he has taken on as his own. I would love for Eduardo to sweep Polita off her feet and leave Audi in the dust.

Steve Please be kinder, its only a soap opera after all. No one in this story deserves harm. Yolo needs to learn selflessness while Guido needs mental help in an institution or prison time. Imelda needs to learn tolerance and understanding. No one needs physical harm.

Cynthia, thanks for your excellent recap and for your famous comments in red :-)

Mostly good stuff this episode, even Guido wasn't too creepy. It is sad about Eugenio though. He and Neto should have taken one more picture together, one with Blanca.

Diana, great comment about time being fleeting and there not always being another chance to do right, so true.

The pace has picked up a bit. Dr Carlos is a regular now, and Lic Eduardo got thumbs up all around in the hospital. It was fun seeing Ari and Temo slowly realize that Eduardo had a non-professional interest in Polita; smiles all around. It looks like Audifaz is history even though he is taking some baby steps towards redemption.

Sheesh! Nobody said anything to Frida about the eye makeup? Imelda doesn't count.

Didn't Neto at some point mention to someone that his wife abandoned the family to run off with another man because he had money? Or maybe I'm confusing tns, but I could've sworn that was the case. If that's what happened, is she back because he kicked her to the curb? Lost his money? Or maybe she's still with him but just really wanted to see her children and plans to go back, which is why she looked kind of freaked out when Yolo said she would go back to Miami with her.

I don't remember about the money part, but I do remember that she ran off with another man. And since he didn't have children, probably he had more disposable income...not to mention time and energy for romance. Children seem to vacuum up every penny!

When Panfrisco was walking with Susana in the hospital and first encountered Doctor Carlos, it was funny how he stared at him and looked him up and down until Carlos asked him if he could help him. Pancho said, you remind me of my son-in-law. The actor played his son in law in Una Familia Con Suerte. Clever how they threw that in.

Blanca's "sopa de piedras" (or was that sopa con piedras?) reminded me of an old story "Stone Soup" that I remember was read often on Captain Kangaroo show, ca. 1960. It had a European setting to it, at that time. Does anyone else remember it?

Thank you everyone. It's been a very busy day for me and I just don't have the time to check in like I used to when I had my old job. (That job I could do in my sleep) But this one is go, go, go, all day long. The good thing is it makes the day go by very quickly.

Anon@ 2:57, I had no idea that the actor playing Carlos played the son in law to Pancho on the other TN. I wondered he said that. I never saw Una Familia Con Suerte. Now I want to see it.

I know everyone is rooting for Eduardo and Polita, but I am kind of hoping that Audifaz will have a change of heart and get a job. It's never too late to change, repent, and ask forgiveness.

I was so proud of Blanca standing up to Imelda, even though Eugenio won't stand up with her. Maybe Imelda will go off into the sunset with Massimo or something and stop interfering with her family's life.

Anon, thanks for telling us about the crossover moment with “Una familia con suerte”. I love that kind of stuff.

Doris, i read "Stone Soup"to my grandgirls many times. In the tale, hungry travelers stop at a village, but nobody will give them food. They tell the villagers about that then can make stone Soup aND ask the villagers to heat up a big pot full of water and They will add the "magic" stones to make the soup. the villagers are intrigued. However, they tell the villagers that the soup will be even more delicious if the villagers have any other things to add. Of course, the villagers begin to bring their carrots, potatoes, onions, etc to add the pot of hot water. And..the result..delicious "Stone soup/"

Cynthia, thanks for the great recap. I'm another one who loved Pancho's half-moustache split personality -- and Doris, I agree with you that the actor is very talented to switch personalities/voices so rapidly! I loved Ari's and Temo's expressions as they figured out Eduardo was interested in Polita and sweetly teased her about it. I like Eduardo but I really do hope that Audifaz accepts Ari before the end of the TN. I know he hasn't been kind or responsible but I feel as if he has a good heart deep inside and I hope it comes out. Maybe Imelda will move in with Massimo to that gigantic house that Guido bought. I agree that Eugenio needs to stay in his familiar home. It's funny to me how the TN will jump ahead in time when they feel like it -- as in this episode -- and some things change but others seem to just lie dormant. Like, Guido was so invested in harming the children at the beginning of the episode, but after the time jump, it seems as if he just forgot about it for a few months!

Thanks, Cynthia. So much happening now.

Crisanta was funny when she said the presentation of the soup was horrible, just like a famous chef would, but the soup was delicious.

Yep, Imelda sure did a job on her boys. As for Eugenio, as the oldest son of a single, sacrificing mom he's felt the honorable thing to do was support her in everything. Imelda has milked that for all it's worth. I would like to see what he'll do if he really has to choose between Blanca and mom.

He's still a murderer.

Yay! we have a show tonight!
