Ep 18: Part 1 For the Need of Money

*Margarito goes to see Baldo. They are both worried that Zackrat is trying to find out where Marina lives. Neither wants to go to Damiana’s house to warn her since Zackrat might follow them; so they decide to send Tori.

*Tori gets to Damiana’s house and gives them the message that they need to be careful because Zackrat is trying to find out where Marina lives.

*Margarito gets back to the ranch and sees Beto, He warns Beto to be careful because his father may have him followed in order to find out where Marina lives.

*Beto talks to Eric and shares his woes. He can’t find a way to end his relationship with Vanesa. Things are getting complicated and he needs to find a way to make his parents accept Marina. Beto then asks Eric for a favor; he wants Eric’s father to recommend a good eye specialist.

*Vanesa goes to see Lino, but Yola intervenes and tells Vanesa to stay away from Lino…she is probably just using Lino as a pastime. When Vanesa asserts that she loves Lino, Yola suggests that she end her relationship with Beto and commit to Lino.

*Margarito tells Don Luis that he can’t find where Damiana lives. Beto is present as Don Louse tells him not to worry about it; and he should concentrate on Lino’s project. After Margarito leaves, Don Louse warns Beto that he’d better not be meeting with Marina. Beto frowns and tells him he is going for a ride.

*Tori is walking toward Marina’s house. Zackrat is following him when he gets a call from Louse to follow Beto.

*Marina argues with Damiana who won’t let her leave the house; she worries that Beto and Doc will wonder why she hasn’t shown up. Damiana assures her that Tori will let them know what is going on. Just then, Tori arrives.

*Su tells Vanesa that Don Louse is looking for the blind one and will get rid of her once he finds her. When Vanesa wonders what Don Louse will do to Marina, Su retorts that what matters is that she will have Marina out of the way so she can marry Beto..Su sees that Vanesa isn’t in a rush to marry Beto; so Su tells her that she HAS to get married or they will live in poverty.

*Zackrat goes to report to Don Louse. Beto didn’t go see Marina; he went to visit the Doc in town. Don Louse tells him to find out if Marina goes to see the Doc.

*Beto goes to see Doc and asks for Marina’s record. When the Doc refuses to give it to him, Beto accuses him of trying to act like her father. This majorly pisses Doc off and he grabs Beto by the collar as he tells him that Marina belongs to him. He gave up everything for Marina. Doc then removes his mask and tells Beto that thanks to this (his scarred face), Marina is alive. He recounts how he saved Marina and how he got burned saving her. He gave up his life, his career, and his face for Marina. Doc insists that Marina is who she is because of him and he will not allow anyone to take her from him. Beto now knows that Doc loves Marina (and not as a father).

Su tells Vanesa how her father lost their money—through bad investments; he was a dreamer. He even lost the inheritance left by their grandparents. The money was also used to maintain their lifestyle and Vanesa’s whims. When she tells Vanesa that is why she planned to get her married to Beto, Vanesa thinks that Su just considers her one of her investments hoping that she solves all their problems. Su cries that they almost have nothing left; they won’t have enough money to pay for their house nor their credit cards. Only Vanesa’s matrimony with Beto can save them from ruin and embarrassment from their social circles. They can both continue their lifestyle as long as Vanesa changes her attitude about marrying Beto. Su pleads with Vanesa to help her.

Ep 18: Part 2 For the Need of Money

*Doc continues to tell Beto that Marina gives his life some sense, but she is only a whim for Beto. He hopes that Marina will love him someday because she is the only one who can love him the way he is. When Doc tells Beto to stay away from Marina, Beto asserts that Marina is the woman he loves.

*Damiana tells Tori to go tell Doc that Marina is very busy and can’t go visit him. When Tori asks what he should say if he sees Beto, Marina tells him to tell Beto that they won’t be able to see each other until he resolves what he has to resolve; it will be a test for both of them.

*Doc reminds Beto that he is getting married; so Beto retorts that he is not getting married. No one will keep him away from Marina; he will fight whoever tries to keep him away from her, including Doc. Doc wonders how Beto will keep Marina away from him. Beto assures him that he won’t tell Marina about his scar or about his feelings for her. Beto warns Doc that if he disrespects Marina in any way, he will be there to defend her.

*Tori sees Beto and gives him Marina’s message. Beto thinks that his father has gotten his way.

*Yola tells Lino that Vanesa isn’t going to leave Beto for him. She then tells him that Beto doesn’t even love Vanesa; he loves Marina. Yola still thinks that Vanesa won’t give up on marrying Beto.

*Baldo goes to talk to Doc and tells him how those at the ranch don’t like Marina. He asks him not to say anything about Marina if someone asks him. Meanwhile Zackrat talks to Ramona and asks if the Doc knows where Marina lives. When Ramona tells him she doesn’t know, he asks her to ask the Doc, but she tells him to ask the Doc himself.

*Su confronts Beto and tells him that she knows that the postponement of the wedding was his idea; Vanesa went along with it to please him. Su can’t see Vanesa sacrifice herself and won’t allow him to discard everything he has done all these years because of another woman. For her daughter, Beto is her first and only love; if they don’t marry, she will die.

*Beto goes to talk to Vanesa who tells him that she didn’t want him to know how sad she was about not getting married. Beto wants her to take some time to think about whether he is the man who will make her happy, but Vanesa insists that she loves him…she hadn’t told him to give him time and space. When she hugs him, they both look like they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. Beto then remembers that she agreed that they were moving too fast. Vanesa cries that she lied; she wants to live with him and pleads with him not to make her suffer any more.

*Doc thinks that Marina’s situation gives him the perfect opportunity to take her away to the city. Ramona warns him that if Marina finds out that he gave info to Don Louse, Marina will never forgive him.

*Beto confides in Pru that he doesn’t know how to handle the situation. Pru asks him to stop seeing Marina, but he can’t stay away from her. Just then, Beto gets a call from Eric. He tells Pru that he just got info that could change his life and Marina’s life.

*Zackrat goes to see Doc, but Doc tells him he doesn’t know where Marina lives. When Doc asks why he is looking for her, Zackrat lies and tells him that he is really looking for Damiana because he likes her. Doc agrees to ask Marina.

*Angsty sees Vanesa crying outside. Vanesa confides that she is in love with Lino and asks Angsty not to tell anyone. Angsty advises that she needs to decide what to do. If she marries Beto, they will both be miserable.

*Beto goes to see Marina to tell her that he has an appointment for her to go see a specialist who can tell them if she will be able to see or not. Damiana doesn’t think it’s a good idea, but Marina and Beto convince her to go. Marina wonders if Beto has talked to Vanesa, but he hasn’t had the heart to do it; he will talk to her when they get back. Marina wonders if his parents will accept her if she in not blind; Beto assures her that they will.

Ep 18: Part 1 For the Need of Money

*Su asks Vanesa if her little performance convinced Beto. Vanesa thinks that it did, but Su thinks that if it didn’t, they will have to take drastic measures…a baby would do it. Vanesa has no plans of getting pregnant. When Su reminds her that their lives depend on that wedding, Vanesa assures her that Beto will marry her. After Su leaves, Vanesa wonders why things have to be this way.

*Pru asks Don Louse if he is still looking for Marina. Don Louse thinks Beto is still seeing her. Pru wishes they had never come to the ranch, but Don Louse wanted to teach Beto about the ranch. He is going to make sure that there is nothing between their son and the blind one.

*Marina is excited about going to the city; she won’t be able to sleep. She thinks about how Beto loves her and she hopes that his parents will accept her (dream on!).

*Beto confides in Angsty that he is taking Marina to the city to see a specialist. Angsty will pray for them. Susana overhears Angsty ask him what time he will leave to the city. Su asks why he is going so Beto tells her he is going to see a specialist regarding his studies. It’ll be a quick trip.

*Lino goes to see Vanesa and wants a kiss. When Vanesa resists and tells him they might get caught, Lino tells her he will be back when all the lights are out.

Hopefully Beto realized what a nut job Doc Mask is.

While Vanessa was sharing her woes with Angsty at the fountain, I could see Angsty's thought bubble "This stuff is way above my pay grade!"

So why is it, in telenovelas, that people like Susana think Beto's parents will fund her lifestyle, too, after the kids are married? This is a common theme (trope?) in telenovelas.

I'm curious about how Lino got to Van's room at Chez Ocaranza with that bad leg??? Walk? Ride a horse? Either way, it had to be painful. He is in luuuurrrrve. Or something.


 

Hmmm...haven't seen this yet but I'm getting a plumbing vibe here. Things just keep circling the drain but then.... nothing. No matter. At least as telenovela veterans, we know our couple will be together at the end. Waaaaaay at the end. A bit harder for me to picture Vanessa and Lino happily ever after on a ranch with a passel of kids, but could happen!

So Dr creepouski thinks marina owes him her life. If he wasn't such a nut job he could be loved by many people.

Rgv Chickie, thanks for another fun recap. I was busy today and didn't get a chance to watch, but I recorded it. Now to find time to watch.

If I can't find the time at least I won't be lost.

Does Marina not know that Doc Mask got burned and now wears a mask? Does she not know he is absolutely looney tunes? I thought people with disabilities such as blindness or deafness compensate with other senses.

Marina seems like a rather clueless poor little blind girl.

Andy - likely Marina has no clue about anything. She has led a very sheltered life, home schooled by Damiana and Doc Mask, and Yola is probably her only friend besides Toribio. She has no point of reference except them, with Yola being the only sane friend in that orbit.
 

Good Morning, Patio! And thank you, Doris, JudyB, Nina and Andy.

I think Beto does realize what a nut job Doc is, but I don't think he realizes or can imagine the lengths Doc will go to in order to keep Marina to himself. I agree with Doris that Marina has no clue about anything, but as Andy pointed out, how could she not know that something is amiss. She knows that she is the only one the Doc will allow to visit him; and surely she must have noticed the change in his personality. Andy, yes, the other senses are enhanced in people who are blind. Marina walks all over town and people talk; so why hasn't she overheard anything about the Doc? I also don't understand why Damiana doesn't explain to Marina why she shouldn't be going to see Doc. If Damiana is accepting that Marina is in love, then she should warn her about those who have a very unhealthy "love" for her.

Nina, yes, Pru and Sudo are BFFs and have been since before they got married, but I don't think Sudo would hesitate in trying to snatch the Louse...in fact, I hope she does; they deserve each other.

Beanie moments are starting--Vanesa confiding in Angsty whom she always seems annoyed with? And Beto thinks his parents will accept Marina if she is not blind? He really isn't that naive, is he?

Ep 19: Part 1 Marina Goes to the City AND Tori Takes the Heat…errr Lashing

Don Louse grills Beto about his sudden trip to the city. Beto tells him he’s going to see a specialist related to his studies and that he will stay with Eric. He adds that Don Louse can send Zackrat, his PI, to follow him since he knows he’s been following him all along.

Beto then goes to Vanesa and tells her he’s going into the city. Vanesa hopes he takes the time to reflect about the marriage. Likewise, Beto hopes Vanesa thinks about whether he is the one she really wants to marry. He does love her (though not in that way), but the relationship has become a routine.

*Marina starts packing for her trip and wonders what it will be like to see.

*Lino returns to Vanesa’s room; he is surprised that she opened the door. Vanesa tells him that “this can’t be,” but Lino knows that she loves him. When Vanesa insists that she will be marrying Beto, Lino asks her if she loves Beto. When Vanesa responds that Beto loves her, Lino tells her that Beto loves another woman.

*Angsty prays for Marina and hopes that she can get her sight so that Pru and the Louse can accept her, not just as Beto’s novia, but as their daughter. She must tell the truth since it is killing her.

*Vanesa argues that Beto is just blinded by Marina’s beauty. Lino hugs and kisses her trying to convince her that he is the one who loves and desires her. (He spends quite some time doing that so FFW…) After he assures her that he will continue fighting for her love, Susana knocks on the door so Lino leaves. Su needs some aspirin for her headache that she got because Vanesa couldn’t convince Beto to take her to the city with him (blech!)

Next Day—


*Beto says good-bye to his mother and the other ladies. Once alone with Vanesa, Angsty asks her why she just doesn’t tell Beto that she is in love with Lino. Vanesa knows that Angsty can be happy living in a humble home, cleaning, and taking care of kids, but Vanesa is used to a another lifestyle and going to nice places. She insists that she is going to conquer Beto again.

*Zackrat reports to Don Louse that Beto is on his way to the city alone. He didn’t want to follow him through the expressway for fear of being seen.

*Beto goes to pick up Damiana and Marina on the side of the road…and they take off to the city.

*Susana is on the phone talking about a pic and the wedding announcement…she gives the go ahead. Right after she sends it off, Beto, who is at a store with Damiana at his side, gets the message that Susana sent him. As he opens it, Damiana looks over his shoulder and sees the wedding announcement. At the ranch, Su pretends to not know what happened since she had told the magazine to hold off on the article. Don Luis thinks it was good that it was announced since it will pressure Beto into marrying Vanesa. When Su mentions the blind one, Don Luis wonders if she has told Vanesa about her. Su thinks Vanesa would not able to take a hit like that…she is very depressed and trying to please Beto. Don Luis assures her that the wedding will take place.

Ep 19: Part 2 Marina Goes to the City AND Tori Takes the Heat…errr Lashing

*At the store, Beto assures Damiana that he canceled the wedding; it was Susana who uploaded the article to the internet. Marina intervenes and backs up Beto because he wuuuves her and she believes in him.

*Vanesa is talking to her friend on the phone. She tells the friend that the article should never have been published; she and Beto have postponed the wedding. Su walks in and Vanesa reproaches her for uploading the article…it will only piss off Beto, but Su doesn’t care what Beto says; this will pressure Beto into marrying her and forget about Marina.

*Yola tells Lino to give up on Vanesa who is going to marry Beto…if she doesn’t marry Beto, she’ll marry some other rich guy. Yola looks up info on Vanesa on the internet and comes across the wedding announcement. After she shows it to Lino, she advises him to forget about her; she isn’t for him.

*Beto, Marina, and Damiana are at the doctor’s office when Eric arrives. Eric sees Marina and now knows why Beto fell in love with her…she is beautiful. After Marina and Damiana go in for the exam, Eric tells Beto that he would leave Vanesa for Marina too. While Marina gets her eyes examined, Eric asks Beto about the announcement; so Beto explains that Marina is the love of his life and that he will end his relationship with Vanesa. Eric knows that Beto’s father will not be happy and Marina will take all the fallout.

*At the ranch, Pru is glad that Beto is away from Marina, so Angsty confides that Beto took Marina to the city to get her eyes examined. After Pru stresses and complains about it, Angsty tells her that Beto wuuuves Marina and hopes that Pru and Don Louse will accept her if she is no longer blind.

*Damiana and Marina are excited about all the niceties that the hotel room offers. After Damiana shows Marina how to get around the room, she takes her to the window and describes the view of the city. Beto arrives with gifts for Marina (dresses and shoes); they are going out to dinner. Beto invites Damiana to go with him, but she declines.

*Doc Mask is plotting and wondering what Marina would do if he tells her that Don Louse knows where to find her. Meanwhile, Marina comes out all dressed up and in high heels (walking very well for someone who probably had never worn heels before). Beto arrives and is quite taken with Marina. Damiana reminds them to get home at a reasonable hour since they have to return to the doctor in the morning.

*At the ranch, Lino sings and Vanesa cries because he is making her suffer.

*Beto and Marina arrive at the restaurant. Marina feels foolish when she isn’t familiar with a place; so Beto assures her that he will be her eyes. They sit at a table surrounded by lights as Marina savors the smell of the food.

*Tori is at Damiana’s house eating when Doc Mask pounds on the door; he has come to see Marina. Tori must not have been told to keep the trip a secret because he tells Doc that Marina left for the city with Beto. While Marina and Beto wine and dine, Doc pokes at Tori’s head as he scowls and asks how Marina could go with that guy. When Tori adds that Damiana went too so that a doctor could check Marina’s eyes, Doc rants that HE is her doctor, HE protects her, and she is HIS! Doc grabs Tori and slams his head on the table as he tells Tori that he should have gone to tell him. He then takes Tori to the stove and puts his head close to the burner as he asks where Beto took Marina. After Tori swears that he knows nothing else, Doc throws him to the floor and leaves.

*At the restaurant, Beto wants Marina to experience new things and he wants them to get to know the world together. Marina gets up and tells Beto that she wants him to know her world; so she blindfolds him so he can eat that way. They help each other eat as they savor the food and dessert.

I'm with you about Marina walking in those tall spike heels!!! Although, she fared quite well in the ones Yola loaned her for the big party. Amazing.
Now to await the specialist's opinion . . . . Must see tv.

I just hate how Doc Mask abused Tori. 😡

Good thing Vanessa locked her door before letting Lino in her room. Su would have walked right in, because nobody in this telenovela knocks first.

Doris, it was difficult to watch Tori getting all of Doc Mask's fury; the man is insane and brutal. He is way down deep on the totem pole along with Don Louse...maybe lower...for now. Don't you just want to hug Tori; he's one of my favorite characters.

Like when the louse destroyed marina's refreshment stand at the festival, and what that masked demon Did to sweet tori. I'd like to hate people that do
Things like that,But I try not to hate people, don't want to be like them. Besides they could care less what anyone feels about them, they'll do what ever the hell they want with no regrets. Thats why I will rejoice when
The louse winds up in Hell with his
Daddy the devil, and they can take that demon in a mask with them.

Ok back to the fun stuff. Why is it

There was this episode when the mask &
Marina were talking and she tried to touch his face and he grabbed her hand
Softly of course. But she don't know He was burned saving her life. So what if they did get married, what of the honeymoon? Everything is exposed then.
See this is why this won't work with these two. He should just "let it go".
But we know he won't so....the battle is on.Along with many other battles to be played out in this tn.

Thanks Rgv Chick. Finally got to see this last night. The dinner scene seemed like a rather sweet rendition of a movie scene I saw in the sixties, Tom Jones, where a couple also delighted in their food, but with a bit more lascivious gusto. This was very dear and romantic.

Doc Mask pushing Toribio's face down on the gas range (thank God he didn't turn on the flame) was very scary and sick-making. We do have some extremes of behavior in this one. And two candidates for the "diablo".

Yes, Happy Palm Sunday to everyone. It's raining here but according to Jarifa they're going to get snow. Rain seems nice in comparison.
 

Oh and love the avatar of mama cat with her kittens. Our dear Kizzie triggers my asthma but I still hold her...she's so lovable and dear.
 

JudyB, "We do have some extremes of behavior in this one." ITA! The two "diablos" have no mercy whatsoever in getting what they want. Doc Diablo at least (somewhat) puts on a front when Marina is around, but Don Diablo doesn't care a flyin' flip who he's talking to and who is present, he speaks his evil mind freely and proudly.

Cool front came in last night; so temps went for low 90's yesterday to high 50s this morning, but I certainly am not complaining. Tori had her babies about 6 weeks ago; now they are just all over the place!

Andy mentioned the dress Beto bought for Marina (the one she wore to dinner) on the previous page. I gotta say the dress was nice but not for a romantic dinner! I didn't get a good look at the second dress, but it was white and flowery; so maybe that would have been more appropriate.

It surprises me that doing a marathon catch-up I wanted to see more scenes with Vanessa and Lino than our two leads. Lino will make a great lover. He's doing his best to persuade Vane and the guitar solos help.

Poor Vanessa, literally. So now we know the real reason for Susana's push. But is it traditional in Mexico for a new husband to provide the support to which his new MIL has been accustomed? Is she *assuming* he will be rich the minute the ring goes on Vanessa's finger, that she will have access to his checking account? Or does she really mean to tap into Don Louse's? Yeah, I know this was brought up earlier, but it really bothered me.

It's also interesting that not once has Marina expressed any interest in getting her sight back so she can see her loved ones' features--or anyone else's.

Nina--wondering about your quip "everything is exposed" should Marina and Doc Diablo wed. I have a feeling he is so repressed, that physical intimacy isn't in the cards. He just wants to possess her whole being and have him be her focus exclusively. She'd end up his prisoner. One good eye and two blind eyes living together--well, Ramona, too.

RgvChick - the kitties are so cute! I love to visit other peoples' cats, but after 2 hours, my sinuses go nuts. I'm allergic, otherwise I would try a house cat.
