Hi Niecie,

Glad you're watching Reina2, and I'm especially glad that you're enjoying it more than you expected. I feel that way too. I keep fearing that they'll screw up, but so far, the casting, the acting, the story line, and the overall production have all been VERY good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Last night I saw how possible it is for even a very highly regarded show to screw up. I've been watching Game of Thrones and have been impressed with many things about it. But last night, almost the entire episode was filmed with so little light that I found it often impossible to see what was happening and to whom. It was one of the most inept hours of TV that I've ever seen.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to tonight's Reina2. And I'm hoping that more people will post about it (but NOT about Game of Thrones). It's more fun when more people get into the conversation.

A very brief recap for La Reina del Sur – Lunes

Jonathan, the DEA agent, follows Manuela, the ex-DEA agent, to the bedside of her mother in the hospital. He overhears her say that he was just el tapete (lit. rug; presumably a cover) she used to get to Teresa. We find out her dead sister had a child, Sergio, 17 years old, and that Manuela is caring for him.

Teresa verbally jousts with Siso at the disco. One of the guys with Siso (a brother, or a cousin?) is some kind of slavering psychopath. Teresa outsmarts this idiot and then sets the bar floor on fire and gets away.

Jesús, the papichulo taxista came back. He figured out she’s la reina del sur and is helping her. He admits he thought about stealing the money. Well, it looks like they’re going to get away since Jesús obviously knows Marbella better than the Galicians, but no. Jesús is shot and Teresa is captured once again.

Siso Pernas takes Teresa to some sort of place where they grind up pigs for sausage. [How does a Galician know about this place in Marbella?]

Sofía pretends to be sick, fooling Lupo. This goes on for a bit, with Sofía coming up with ever more clever plans. She even gets a charger and is able to call her mother. But just before she outs Lupo, he snatches away the phone.

For maybe the 20th time Flores gloats that Teresa is finished.

A swat team arrives at the pig grinding place, but Siso insists on not leaving until he’s dropped Teresa into the machine. [Come on! They expect us to believe Teresa Mendoza is going to be ground up in the second week?] The power is cut before she can be harmed. It’s her old buddy, Colonel Abdelkaber Chaib, now General Chaib, of the Moroccan military. They pretended to be Spanish police to rescue Teresa.

Siso calls Cayetana to say that Teresa is dead. She gloats some and then calls Epifanio to say the same.

Teresa calls Epifanio to ream him out about her daughter being upset. Epifanio is trying to placate her [doubtless relieved he doesn’t have to go to Plan B and kill his opponent in the election], but the campaign manager (Alejandro?) gets on the phone and plays hardball.

Reina sur-2

Novelera, thanks! You got it “papichulo” (sorry the cutie got shot) and all.

Teresa in the pig processing plant was a porky twist (couldn’t resist). 🐷

Sofía never gives up just like her mother.

Chaim was a welcome sight.

Does there seem to be more commercials and less show than normal in these episodes? 🤔

Reina 2

wow, I like your short recaps novelera, spot on.

goodbye Jesus, but why oh why did you have to stop and chat everytime you gave Siso/cops the slip.

and Siso is right, the body count is climbing, Teresa ought to open a funeral home.

I'll never think of chorizo the same, is that a piece of clothing?

I didn't get Sofia's trick, rubbing the orange peel on the soles of her feet, did that make her flush giving Lupo the idea she had a fever, confirmed by the light bulb warmed thermometer.

when Sofia went for the charger I was yelling to close the door and lock Morgana in, but I guess where would she go, she doesn't even know where she is. (and I guess Morgana dresses as a nun when she goes out)

and the Colonel er General, calms Teresa as she is reintegrated back into the narco world, one thing at a time, and we last see her scuttle off alone on the Aljarafe estate, are they enjoying their wine?

does Flores know Teresa is dead, I think so far he's only seen the taxi video.

Epifanio, who always does things his way, seems to be deferring to Alejandro in handling Teresa, is there something we don;t know about this guy.

reina-sur

Deb, I agree that Flores only saw the taxi video. I think he meant that, now she's out in the open in Spain, he, the brilliant detective, NOT, will be sure to bring her to justice. That's what he told Cayetana.

I was also mystified by the orange peel on the feet.

Jarifa, "porky twist", a good one!

I DVR everything I ever watch on TV and whiz through commercials so I can't say I notice the length of commercials for this one. I usually start watching about a half hour later than the start time. I've mentioned here before, I believe, that I am the beneficiary, because of DirecTV, of having two showings of novelas from which to choose. The box records the 7:00, East Coast broadcast. The 10:00 West Coast one, which is all I'd have if I didn't have the dish, is also listed in the on-screen guide. Thus I am able to put up recaps without it being so very late.

reina-sur2

novelera, you nailed it! A great recap that's short but covers just about everything. ¡Muchísimas gracias!

Add me to the list of people puzzled by Sofia's use of the orange.

And poor Jesus. I really liked him and hoped we'd see more of him. But I suspected he was doomed as soon as he said he felt lucky.

The scene between Manuela and her mother was interesting. I don't recall Veronica ever mentioning that she had a child. Also, I guess the relationship between Jonathan and Manuela is done done done after his overhearing her say he was just a way for her to find Teresa. I also found interesting her comparing tracking and meeting Teresa to running in a marathon, being within sight of the finish line, and the excitement of overcoming pain to get there.

So it's now General Chaib. I'm glad he's back, though I don't really understand how he could be where he needed to be in time to rescue Teresa, nor how he could bring two official-looking police cars with him with heavily armed men. Anyway, I like him (though I can't forgive him for his ordering the horrific punishment of Lalo in Reina1). I noted that when he wanted to give a confused and upset Teresa a military man's advice, he asked "Will you permit me?" Not your average (military) man.

So apparently Chaib has brought Teresa at her request to Plaza Aljarafe, a bull ring, and probably the one where we saw Cayetana and her granddaughters an episode or two ago. I can't believe that Teresa would have arranged to meet Cayetana there, nor does it seem likely that Cayetana hangs out there all the time and that Teresa knows this. Oh well, that's what we'll learn in tonight's episode, I suppose.

I'll be out late tonight so I won't be able to do a recap, but I'm hoping to do one for Wednesday's episode. I'm hoping someone will step up for tonight's. As novelera has beautifully demonstrated, it doesn't have to be long. C'mon, folks. Give it a try.

Reina 2

when Epifanio gets the call that Teresa is dead, interesting that he can't get ahold of Alejandro who is off getting laid, and his guy following Teresa doesn't have a clue, but wait, Gen Chaib has had Teresa followed all this time, ("General de la Real Gendarmeria de Marruecos") who seems to have kept on top of things, but didn't know Teresa had a daughter.

and he doesn't know much about Oleg, who was called back to Moscow by the president, Teresa says something about going after him.

yep Juanita, the General is more than polite with Teresa.

I can't find anything on the orange peel other than it is supposedly better for you to eat than the orange, but some think putting an onion in your armpit overnight will cause a temperature, ok, who's going to try this?

say, didn't Teresa make it through the entire season 1 without killing anyone, that is until she killed Ratas, again and again, no one seems to be stepping in to keep her hands clean this season, and everything in her purse was laying in that blood.

I wonder if Jonathan will get obsessed with Manuela to prove that she really does love him, and I'm wondering when we will see Pote's gun again.

reina-sur2

I just realized that I forgot to put a "2" on my mini-cap and subsequent comment. I know these tags are meant to enable visitors to the site to look at things even years later, so I'll try to put the correct one up.

Tonight is Game 2 of the Warriors' basketball semi-final. I may or may not find time to watch the novela, but I would not be doing a recap, nor will Juanita.

We'd appreciate some description of what happened in order to stimulate comments.

BTW, deb, I really appreciate your fleshing out very brief recaps with important details, like Oleg being in Moscú, which explains how his crooked bar manager was able to lure Teresa to the place.

reina-sur2

Great comments, deb, as always! One thing: I think General Chaib has been having Teresa followed only after she called him to say she wanted to talk to him about a business deal. That alerted him to the fact that something was wrong, and it was then, I think, that he had someone following her and people keeping him informed about her. If I'm right, then there would be little reason for him to know that she has a daughter.

I'm still wondering how Chaib got to Spain so quickly, and with all those men and police vans. Another example of the superlative service of Telenovela Airlines? And do they also transport heavy freight (police vans), or is there a sister company, Telenovela Cruise Lines, that can transport stuff by sea, with the same rapid speed as their sister airline? And where did I put my beanie?

Reina Sur-2

Does Mark Tacher always play “ the creepy side kick” role? Of course, these actors are all type cast . . . But he is a relatively nice looking guy so I have always wondered how he got pigeonholed.

Somehow I do not think Epifanio would be pleased with Sofía in the basement if he knew. Lupo is no bargain but it could get worse for Sofía if Lupo does end up being sent to Europe as Alejandro suggested.

I still am enjoying the “porcine” influence. I loved when Teresa earned Cayetana’s slap calling Teo a pig as well as warning Cayetana not to keep provoking her. At least Teresa had the support of Teo’s daughter Rocío as his other daughter “Paloma” literally flew the coop with her boyfriend. Sorry, I couldn’t resist the birdie pun.

Cayetana’s bonfire of Paloma’s belongings was a little extreme but it showed how far out there Cayetana is.

Teresa was a smartie taking the brush for an eventual DNA test.

I also loved the bull chasing Teresa and the behind the scenes showing us how it was done. There was also that aerial shot of the bullring that was spectacular.

Chaib thought of all of the details of getting Teresa out of Spain and off to Russia including the hijab. The Spanish official was surprisingly nasty remarking about Moors still not learning Spanish after all this time when Teresa didn’t speak. At least the officers covered for her reminding the official she was a Muslim woman on her own and he was a man, etc.

Oh, no! Teresa is being followed from the get go in Moscow.

Looking forward to tonight.

Reina 2

thanks so much Jarifa, and I also find the filming interested, who would have guessed a guy with a small green screen was chasing Teresa through the narrow passages of the rink, and the above shots must be being done with a drone, such quality.

let's see what I remember,

Epifanio takes charge again, liking how Alejandro shut Teresa up, but wants Lupo to be their European guy, Batman to take charge of Sofia because Morgana is no match for her, and a better guy to track Teresa, is this that guy following her in Moscow?

Cayetana comes upon Paloma and boyfriend (the young bull fighter ??) in the bull ring, is Paloma pulling up her undies, and discharges him with a sword to the throat. (she later mentions they raise the best fighting bulls in Spain)

Teresa's attempt to square things with Cayetana once again puts her in harm's way (when she is trapped with the bull), and needs to be rescued by another, this time goth daughter Rocio who seems to admire her, has read her dad's 400+ page file and gives it to Teresa, what?, as they remember meeting years earlier. Rocoa wants to meet Sofia, Teresa shows her the video on her phone, and explains that Sofia knows nothing of her past.

Teresa manages to get away (again) in the confusion of Paloma hopping on the back of her boyfriends moto, even though Flores and his men are everywhere. Flores tells Cayetana, thanks but no thanks, don't call me again.

Alejandro visits the house of Sofia, jumps on Morgana for having a phone, she's not worried as the deal was she couldn't be fired, he says in this business they have more permanent solutions. (and once again I get the idea he is not just Epifanio's campaign manager, but running the whole show)

Manuela goes home to spilled pill bottles and nephew Sergio playing with Pote's gun, this guy is trouble, and seems to go through her stuff on a regular basis (and I'm still trying to live with Manuela's haircut).

"I'm not really a bad guy", Lupo, brings Sofia drawing supplies to keep her busy, as she realizes how long he has been tracking them and how much he knows about her, they banter keeping score (cute,) he leaves, she eyes an empty wall.

muslim girl Teresa arrives in Moscow on a Moroccan military plane on her quest to find Oleg, she remembers an address (hmm, the one he gave her of his safe house he lives in with his family in season 1) (Chaib was marveled by her memory, as well as other things)

she hops a cap, her tail has a car waiting to follow.

Reina

I'm so glad you all are keeping up with this. I missed last night and the last I saw of Monday, Teresa was hanging by a hook about to ruin some chorizo. Next thing I see is her on a place to Moscow and wondering how the heck THAT happened. She is having one heck of a bad week.

Is Rocio interested in Teresa as the bad guy, or does she really believe Abuela is nuts to blame Teresa for everything? I'm loving the "how it was made" scenes at the end of the show and seeing the actor being chased by a green screen.

Kelly

reina-sur2

Thanks so much, Jarifa and deb, for all the helpful and interesting comments (and in deb's case a short recap). I was out last night and so only got to watch the episode this morning.

I loved the scene where Sofia was led into a basement room for punishment. Rather than going to pieces or pleading to be forgiven, Sofia looks around her in the basement with a marvellous look combining fright and concentration. The actress playing Sofia is doing a superb job!

I guess we'll finally be able to keep Cayetana's granddaughters straight. Paloma, the older one, in love with the toreador-in-training, while the younger one, Rocio, is the goth fan (but not fanatic). She rightly accuses her grandmother of having ordered Teresa's death and therefore of being an assassin just like Teresa.

Cayetana goes off to the bullring to look for Paloma. She finds her, having sex with her toreador. The young man insists he loves Paloma and wants to continue to see her. Cayetana tells him to get lost and threatens him. After he leaves, Cayetana looks up and sees a ghost: Teresa. Teresa assures Cayetana that she's alive and says something like "you messed with the wasp's nest, and now you have to deal with the queen of the bees." Teresa also admits that she gave the order to kill Teo and explains why. Rocio, unseen, has come to the bullring and overhears everything. Including Cayetana's statement about her two granddaughters, and Teresa's correcting her: "Three." (Just as in the scene with Teo right before Pote kills him.) Teresa tells Cayetana that she's not vengeful, she simply wants to be left in peace. But she also warns Cayetana that "people who mess with me pay."

Charo arrives and tells Cayetana that she called the police as soon as she saw Teresa (?), and they'll arrive very soon. In the meantime, Cayetana releases a bull that goes after Teresa. Rocio comes to Teresa's aid and leads her away. The police (headed by Flores) arrive and don't find Teresa. Suddenly, Cayetana fears that perhaps Teresa has invaded her house and is endangering her granddaughters. Everyone rushes back to the house. Rocio, who has had a heart-to-heart with Teresa, helps her escape to a ledge outside a window in her room. When the police enter the room and go to the window, they and Cayetana spot Paloma leaving. That momentarily diverts everyone's attention away from the search for Teresa. Toreador arrives on his motorcycle, Paloma gets on, and off they go. Cayetana wants Flores to go after Paloma. He tells her he came to find Teresa. Paloma is old enough to sleep with whoever she wishes, that's not Flores' business. He then tells Cayetana not to call him again unless it's something very serious. She threatens to tell his supervisor. Unconcerned, he leaves.

reina-sur2

Yikes, I had no idea that I was writing so much, but when I tried to post my message, it was rejected as too long. So here's the rest.

Meanwhile, in Mexico, Lupo tells Sofia that her punishment is all her fault, since she stole a cell phone and called her mother. The seemingly indomitable Sofia replies, "You're afraid of my mother. One day she'll find you and Morgana and make you pay for kidnapping me. She knows where I am. I told her before you took the phone away." Lupo tells her she's a liar, since even she doesn't know where she is. Unfazed, Sofia corrects his Spanish. "The word is 'mentirosa,' not 'mentarosa,'" she tells him. [Yay, Sofia!]

Jonathan tells Willy that he overheard Manuela tell her mother that she was just using him to get to Teresa. Willy says they have to focus on what to do next. Jonathan asks Willy, who he says knows Teresa better than anyone else, what she's likely to do. Willy (who apparently has been watching this telenovela) tells Jonathan that Teresa needs to get out of Spain, and if she does, she'll try to find Oleg, so she'll go to Russia.

Sure enough, we see that General Chaib has arranged for Teresa to take a Moroccan military airplane to Moscow. We see that he's still devoted to her, that he can't come to Moscow to help or protect her, and that the only address she has for Oleg is one Oleg gave her ten years ago. Chaib gives her a scarf that she should use as a hijab on the plane (since she's going to use a passport with Arabic on it). And off she goes.

This is getting too long. Let me just say that we also learn that Lupo speaks six languages while Sofia knows only three: Spanish, Italian, and English. (You win, she tells him.) But we also learn that he can't read! She tells him, if he could read, he'd know that she used oranges to make it seem as if she had a fever. (Hmmm..I guess I can't read either, since I had no idea what the oranges were for.)

I'm planning to do a recap of tonight's episode. I had the advantage of being able to go over the recording for what I've written now, but that won't be true tonight, so it will probably be short.

reina-sur2

Kelly, I didn't see your message until after I'd posted mine (and wrestled with the length). Good question about Rocio. The scenes with her seemed to make it clear that she admires Teresa, feels that Teresa understands her in a way that her grandmother certainly doesn't, loves the fact that Teresa admits that when she's scared, she thinks of and apparently identifies with vampires (Rocio has pictures of vampires on the walls of her room), and also is very pleased to learn that she has a younger half-sister (Sofia) that she knew nothing about. Rocio does think her grandmother is off-the-wall obsessed with her hatred of Teresa, but I think Rocio comes to feel a kinship with Teresa that has very little to do with Rocio's dislike of Cayetana.

reina-sur2

Thanks SO much, Jarifa, Juanita, and deb for the recaps! The Warriors won! And we had a really fantastic episode last night. I did watch Reina after the game, so I was up rather later than I had wanted.

Did we know in Reina 1 that the Aljarafe family raised fighting bulls? I only remember their being rich.

I really, really like Rocío. It was a bit hard to believe she managed to get a long report (the police one?) about her father. So she’s known for some time that her father, even though she loves him still, was not an admirable man. But she has a lot of spirit and, obviously, Teresa is her type of spirited person.

The scene with Teresa and Cayetana was gold. Even though it was late, I watched it twice!

I’m not sure exactly why Teresa wants Cayetana to know Sofía is her granddaughter. Spite? Hopes of an inheritance for Sofía? If I were Teresa I’d be afraid the hag would try to get her away from her mother.

Yes, that Alejandro is quite the Machiavelli. It worries me that Teresa is being followed in Moscow. Juanita, thanks for mentioning that at least Teresa has an old address for Oleg. I missed that. But, of course, in telenovelas people find each other easily in a city of 12 million inhabitants.

Reina 2

iirc at the end of season one Oleg introduced Teresa to his wife and son. Because narcos often threaten a person's family, he has them stashed away and no one knows about them. (also the reason they were not lovers) I think this is the address he gave to her but I fear Teresa showing up on his doorstep will not be a good thing.

Reina sur 2

Thanks, deb and Juanita for the recaps.

Kelly, good to see you on the patio!

deb, Rocío was a breath of fresh air in this episode as Chaib’s appearance was in the last one. Teresa keeps on just slipping through total annihilation. Good point about not knowing about what Oleg’s reaction to Teresa is going to be.

Juanita, I also appreciated Sofía correcting Lupo’s vocabulary. Anyway, it seems like Sofía is up for the long haul. She has been trained to be a survivor.

novelera, congrats on your Warriors winning! The question is, I guess, who is following Teresa? I hope it isn’t some new adversary.

Cannot wait for tonight!

Jarifa,

Mark Tacher was the hero of La Hija del Mariachi, one of the most popular Colombian novelas.

Thanks, anon, for the info.

reina-sur2
La Reina del Sur2 - Capítulo 7 - Parte 1 de 2

The episode opens with a conversation between Siso and Cayetana. Siso claims it's impossible that Teresa is alive. "She went into the grinder before the police came." Cayetana replies that Flores was still looking for her when he came to the bull ring. Hmmm, thinks Siso, perhaps it wasn't Flores' police who came to the place where the grinder was.

In Mexico City, Alejandro tells Epifanio that he needs to change his image in order to reach younger voters. Epifanio is shown a demo of a cartoon figure, Super Epi, who will fight against all social ills. "He'll be like you, Epifanio, but with more energy." Epifanio objects, saying that Teresa Mendoza is all we need. Perhaps, says Alejandro, but you asked for a Plan B.

The scene shifts to Sinaloa, where there's a huge outdoor celebration under way. We see a big man in a white suit, Mariano Bravo, Epifanio's opponent in the upcoming election. He seems like a sleazeball. And who should appear but Faustino Sanchez Godoy, the Colombian drug lord. They greet each other warmly. Apparently the party has been staged and paid for by drug lord Zurdo Villa, who we now get to see. He asks a waiter to bring over the special bottle of tequila that sells for $1000. The waiter complies and is pouring it when fireworks go off and the bottle falls. Villa tells the waiter to get down and lick it all up or he'll kill him. As the waiter gets down, Villa steps on his back to push him all the way down. While the waiter is licking up the tequila, Villa has them bring another bottle--"I have 10 more like it."

Meanwhile, in Moscow, Teresa takes a cab to a building that turns out to be the Moscow Ballet Academy. She goes in and first encounters two ballet dancers who speak only Russian. She then walks around the hall and sees a large portrait that turns out to be of Alexei Yasikov (the painting is identified in both Russian and English). She then comes upon an older woman who is training the dancers. The woman speaks Spanish, having been a professor in the Ballet Nacional de Cuba in Havana in the 1980s. Teresa learns that Alexei Yasikov was Oleg's great-grandfather, and that this was the Yasikov house. Olga (Oleg's wife?) was a ballet fan, and so they donated the house to the Ballet Academy. Teresa asks whether the woman can give her Oleg's address. "No one knows Oleg's address," replies the woman, "and if I knew it, I wouldn't tell you, especially now that no one wants anything to do with the Yasikovs." Teresa asks why this is so, but the woman simply says she has to get back to the rehersal. Outside the house, the guy who has been following Teresa since she arrived in Moscow calls his boss and reports that the boss was right, Teresa is trying to locate Oleg.

Back in Mexico, Sofia has been creating a huge mural on the wall. She tells Lupo that his name is hidden in it, as is Morgana's. However, he won't find it, because "you need a heart to appreciate art, and you don't have one." He tells Sofia that he is an orphan who never knew his parents, and we see him remember a scene from his childhood where he draws something on the blackboard and the other boys in the class make fun of him and throw things at the blackboard. The boys seem to be speaking English. [I'm not sure where this is leading.]

In Malaga (I think), Juan and Paloma enter his mother's house. Paloma isn't happy with this arrangement, but there were no rooms available in the hostels. Juan's mother appears and is not pleased that he has brought a girl to the house. She demands that the girl leave. He tells his mother that the girl is Paloma, granddaughter of Cayetana Aljarafe. That just makes the mother more adamant that the girl leave. Apparently the mother doesn't think well of Cayetana.

reina-sur2
La Reina del Sur2 - Cap.7 - 2 de 2

There's a knock at the door. It's Rocio. She tries to persuade Paloma that Juan isn't right for her, and she should come home. "Is it worth it, throwing everything away?" asks Rocio. She tells Paloma about their sister, Sofia. Paloma doesn't trust what "the assassin" Teresa has said. She insists that she loves Juan and wants to make a new life with him. Rocio leaves. [Goth Rocio here seems like the more grounded, practical one!]

Epifanio is getting his hair cut shorter to fit his new image. He isn't pleased. Also, he's told that his boots need a rest, he should switch to these Italian shoes. Epifanio is upset that there are lifts inside the shoes. Alejandro tells him it will add 5 cm to his height, which will be useful in his upcoming debate with Bravo, who is taller. Someone adds that Trump used lifts to appear taller and more intimidating in his debate with Hillary Clinton. [No comment]

Villa's outdoor celebration includes lots of impressive fireworks. Also, Villa sings a song in honor of the next president, Mariano Bravo. Suddenly, someone yells "the Federal Police are coming, we have to get out now!" The police arrive, shooting. A number of people at the celebration return fire. Bravo, Villa, Godoy, and some others flee. Soon they arrive at a shed where Villa has a number of motorcycles. Each person takes one, and they go off into the woods on motorcycles! Eventually, they abandon the motos and continue on horseback. Just where the horses came from, complete with saddles, isn't clear.

Lupo tells Sofia that he brought her crayons because he knows she likes to draw. He tells her her punishment is over and she can come upstairs for a hot meal.

Juan turns out not to be such a bargain. Paloma isn't in the mood for sex, but that doesn't stop Juan. He ignores her pleas to stop. Looks as if Rocio was right.

Teresa takes the famed Moscow subway. Her follower is apparently just a few feet away in the same car. It's not clear whether she's aware of him.

Zurdo Villa and Sanchez Godoy arrive at Villa's house (or, more likely, one of them). Lots of memorabilia about Pancho Villa, who turns out to be Zurdo's great-grandfather. Godoy asks about an interesting container on a table. Villa takes the top off, revealing the contents: the heart of Pancho Villa (I think), which Zurdo bought for megabucks some years ago. He offers to let Godoy hold it, but Godoy says thanks but no thanks. He's surprised that he and Villa have worked together for two years but he never knew Villa had this place. Godoy then comes upon another surprise: a framed picture of Teresa Mendoza. Villa admits that he knows her only by reputation, but he's apparently a VERY VERY enthusiastic fan. Scarily enthusiastic. Godoy says that yes, he knows Teresa. Their relationship was not sexual, just professional. He made a huge amount of money thanks to her. Villa tells Godoy that he wrote a corrida for Teresa, and he proceeds to sing it. He has been lusting after her for quite a while. Godoy tells him that if Teresa ever returns, he'll bring her to Villa. Villa tells him that when Bravo becomes president, they'll be rolling in money. And then he asks Godoy to find Teresa and bring her to him. The episode ends here, but I fear we can now add Villa to the list of Teresa's problems.

Reina del sur 2

Thank you, Juanita.

I am sure hoping Teresa is aware she is being followed. It would be very very very hard to believe that “Teresa” would not have checked to see if she were being followed by now as a matter of course considering the situation she is in.

With the size of Mariano, Epifanio will need those lifts.

“Scarily enthusiastic”, good description, Juanita. Yes, it was supposed to be the heart of Pancho Villa.

Where oh where can our Oleg be? I am hoping Teresa visiting the ballet school is passed on to him but then again maybe he really is persona non grata. Moscow is a huge city to just to try to run into him.

Reina 2

thanks so much Juanita!

I needed a recap on this one as things happen fast, quickly switching scenes, and the captioning seems to flash by.

yep, Siso confirms Teresa is alive by going over witch Cayetana's security footage, does he say they must get her before she leaves Europe?

ah, super Epi, and they want give him the look of a leader, not sure who the guy and girl on Alex's team are, she touched him as she walked out, is this the girl he slept with?

I was fascinated with Sofia's wall mural, as she and Lupo continue to bond, he pointed out the tree was like the drawing in her room at home, she pointed out how her mother taught her how to hide messages in paintings, when she sees this she will know all (is she goofing on him?), Lupo is not worried, when Teresa shows he will disappear forever, it will take her another week to finish (I think Lupo is happy she is busy), Sofia is determined but the thought of a warm meal has her scurrying up the steps after him.

yep, Rocio has Paloma pegged, but do her pleas to return reflect her own interests, staying with granny to perhaps inherit it all.

wow, Teresa is stopped cold and alone, but we get iconic Russian scenes as she wanders, and no indication who her tail is working for, I agree Jarifa, perhaps now Oleg may find her.

Splendid recap, amiga! Great details. I was skeptical that they could pull off a sequel, but every episode is riveting

I thought maybe Teresa looked aware of the tail when she was on an escalator. Hard to imagine she's missed him; the guy sticks out like a sore thumb in Moscow.

I'm dubious about Zurdo Villa's claim to be the great grandson of Pancho Villa. Could be. But Villa is a major figure of the revolution for the Mexican people. I think it might be hard to swallow for them to believe his descendent would be a cruel narco. Maybe later it will be revealed he made the whole thing up to appear more formidable.

I'll say one thing for Zurdo - he can sure sing! Since I got home from my Spanish class on the late side, I didn't spend any time googling the guy.

How I love Sánchez Godoy. I've seen Lincoln Palomeque in other novelas, and that Medellin accent he uses is part of the role. And he's great in it and funny as well. Loved the comment, Juanita, about the already saddled horses appearing de la nada.

Juan had me fooled. He professed his great love for Paloma to her granny, and then proceeded to rape her.

I don't think Villa is likely to be a problem for Teresa, at least in the near term. The fact that he has a fixation on her plays right into Epifanio's plot for her to get close to him. His obsession with her has echoes of El Chapo's wanting to meet Kate.

Many thanks, Jarifa, deb, and novelera, for your great comments! Yes, Jarifa, it's hard to imagine Teresa just wandering about Moscow and coming upon Oleg. My guess is that she has some place in mind when she takes the subway, but I could be wrong (it's been known to happen :-) )

deb, I too was fascinated by Sofia's wall painting. I wonder whether the scene from his childhood that Lupo remembers, where he's been drawing on the blackboard, indicates that he (secretly) shares Sofia's love of drawing. And I wonder what else that scene of the young Lupo was meant to tell us.

novelera, I too was VERY skeptical about Telemundo's ability to pull this off, but so far.... (fingers crossed--I don't want to jinx it :-) ). I'm especially impressed by role of Sofia and the marvellous acting by Isabella Sierra.

I too enjoy Sanchez Godoy, though I have a terrible time with his accent. That was true in Reina1, and Reina2 makes me realize that I've made NO progress since then! :-( Oh well.

I worry about Zurdo Villa. He really seems psychopathically interested in Teresa. I suppose it's possible that that interest may turn out to protect her from others who are trying to harm her, but....

Oops, two more things I meant to say. One is that it's clear that Teresa keeps looking over her shoulder and is aware that someone might be following her, but so far I haven't seen any sign that she has noticed the specific guy who is following her and has been since she arrived in Moscow. Then again, perhaps she wants to trap and confront him rather than simply temporarily elude him. I guess we'll see.

And novelera, good point about the way in which Villa's obsession with Teresa has echoes of El Chapo's wanting to meet Kate.

I think Sofia is allergic to oranges. Rubbing on her feet and skin would cause her skin to blister. I think her comment "You don't know anything" refers to his spying on Theresa's family for so long, he missed her allergy.
