Nina, ITA with you.
Up until now I was willingly to wait to see if Don Louse was really as bad as he seemed. No doubt now, he is. Nobody has a right to do what he did.
Doc Mask is right behind.

Ep 33: Part 1 In the Arms of the Devil
Marina finishes up polishing the silver with Tori’s help. After Su comments that they are very shiny, Baldo arrives to take Tori back. After they leave, Marina goes to see Dami and Su puts the silver into a plastic breadbox and sprinkles sulfur over them.
Mago (Margarito) is with Dami and asks her if, at some time, she was interested in him.
Su tells Vanesa how she sprinkled the silver with sulfur so they can get tarnished. Vanesa thinks Su is wasting her time because Beto is going to end up taking Marina to the city with Pru’s approval and support. Su is adamant that it won’t happen; and when Don L finds out how Pru betrayed him, he will probably divorce her . When Vanesa suggests that they find some other means of financial support, Su insists that Vanesa will marry Beto. Vanesa rolls her eyes and points out that Marina has them beat and that Su should give it up; in response, Su tells her that she is ashamed to have a daughter like her. Su knows she can’t count on Vanesa, so she will take care of the situation.
Dami admits to Mago that she was interested in him for years; she was hoping he would notice. Mago wonders why she never said anything; so Dami tells him he was too fixed on the memory of his wife. Mago apologizes and knows he shouldn’t ask anything of her. He knows Baldo has loved her for a long time and won’t bother her anymore.
Baldo and Tori are together when Tori suddenly keeps saying that he is dumb; he forgot to tell Marina what Doc Mask did. Baldo calms him down and tells him he didn’t tell Marina either because he didn’t want her to worry about Doc looking for them. He assures Tori that Marina and Dami are safer at the ranch. Tori then tells Baldo that Beto is going to take away his nightmares when he goes to the city. Baldo smiles as he tells Tori that both of them will be going to the city; he already asked for a transfer to the cemetery in the city…and Tori will go with him and always have food to eat.
Marina returns Vanesa’s dress and thanks her. She then tells Vanesa that she is no one to be giving her advice, but she should open up her heart and follow it. Vanesa would like to, but they come from very different worlds. Vanesa confides that she would like to be more like Marina.
Mari notices that Dami seems sad, but Dami tells her she is fine and asks Mari what she was doing; so Mari tells her about cleaning the silver. Pru that comes in and tells them that neither Su nor Vanesa will join them for supper. Marina goes downstairs hoping that she won’t bump into anything. Meanwhile, Su puts a liquor cart in the middle of the hall. When Marina bumps into it, Pru quickly stops her and guides her as Su watches from behind a door and smirks. She then goes off and thinks about how Vanesa was right in saying that everything she does fails. She needs to think of something drastic to make Marina look bad. Just then, Zackrat greets her from behind a wall. Su warns him not to stay there because Dami already said that it was he who attacked her. Zackrat curses Dami since he had warned her not to say anything; and Su tells him not to do anything until Don L returns. Zack agrees and gives her his phone number so she can let him know when Don L gets back. After he leaves, Su calls Don L several times, but Don L has his phone off.
*Doc Mask is stroking his mask as he thinks about how Don L will run Marina off his property and Beto won’t be there to protect her. He calls her his love and thinks about how they are going to be together.
Ep 33: Part 2 In the Arms of the Devil
*Pru praises Marina getting around and doing so many things on her own. When she tells Marina that Beto was not mistaken since she is a grand woman, Marina is grateful for her words. Pru then tells her that she is going to accept their love; she just asks that they be patient and not get ahead of themselves…and she wants Don L to see that they make good decisions and that they love each other.
Eric accompanies Beto to his exam. Eric’s dad comes for him and explains what he will have to do—take the exam and be interviewed by a panel of doctors. As he takes the exam and has the interview, Marina prays for him.
Horti shows Pru the silver and how tarnished it is. Marina cries that she cleaned them herself; and Pru tries to reassure her.
Later, Marina is out walking alone trying to calm herself down when she hears Don L bark as he asks her what she is doing on his land and tells her that she needs to get out. Marina retorts that she is not leaving until Beto returns. Don L threatens that if she does not leave on her own, he’ll kick her out himself. When Don L tells her that she isn’t even Beto’s girlfriend anymore, Marina blurts out that she isn’t Beto’s girlfriend; she is his WIFE!! After Don L cackles, he tells her that it can’t be. They continue to argue and yell at each other. Marina brings up that her mother is hurt because of him, but Don L argues that her mother got aggressive and that is why she was hit. When Marina reiterates that she and Beto are married and he can’t do anything about it, Don L grabs her and tells her that he will definitely do something about it. They struggle as Don L drags her to his truck until they fall to the ground and Marina passes out.
Eric congratulates Beto. Dr Bazan comes out and congratulates him too; Beto was glad to see he was part of the panel. Eric and Beto then discuss next steps, but Beto wants to tell Marina that he passed his test…and he needs to confront his parents and tell them that he married Marina as soon as possible.
Don L whistles as he drives. When Marina wakes up, she asks where he is taking her and pleads with him to let her out. He tells her that he is taking her to a place where she belongs. Marina continues to cry out for help as Don L whistles and drives.
Pru and Angsty discuss the tarnished silver and what could have happened. Pru then tells Dami that she told Marina that she would be supportive of her and Beto even if her husband gets angry. Su comes in to emphasize the tarnished silverware, but Angsty hints that she had something to do with it; Su, of course, feigns ignorance. When Su and Pru leave, Angsty tells Dami that she is fed up with Su.
Marina continues to plead with Don L who is pissed because everyone betrayed him. He wonders what Marina did to get Beto to marry him. Marina keeps pleading and trying to explain. When she tells him that he can’t take her against her will, Don L slams his fist on the seat which scares Marina. When she gets quiet, Don L starts whistling again.
Horti shows Pru that she has already cleaned the silver almost as good as Marina did. When she asks Su to back up what she said, Pru is surprised that Su knew about it. Vanesa then comes in and asks for Marina. When Su tells her that she is spending time with Yola…her people, Vanesa volunteers to go look for her.
Ep 33: Part 3 In the Arms of the Devil
Marina worries what Beto will think when he finds out what Don L did to her, but then assures Don L that she won’t tell Beto anything. Don L finally stops the truck and they get out as Marina continues to cry. Don L then carries Marina into Doc Mask’s home like a sack of potatoes. When he puts her down, he tells her that monkeys belong with monkeys, and blind ones belong with the fried ones. He threatens her that if she continues to put stones in his shoes, the devil will appear to her. He then turns to Doc and tells him to do with her what he wants…and to take her far away from his land. Marina is in tears as she asks Doc to help her and explains how Don L took her from his ranch.
Ramona is in town asking for Dami and Marina.
Doc wonders why Marina would go stay at the ranch. When Marina explains that many things have changed, Doc remarks that she changed him for Beto. Marina doesn’t understand why Don L can’t believe that she has no other interest in Beto other than the love she has for him. Marina then asks Doc to lend her his phone to call Beto and let him know where she is, but Doc lies and tells her that both his phones aren’t working.
Su finally gets through to Don Louse and tells him that everything is topsy-turvy at the ranch…horrible things are happening. When he tells her that he is on the way back, Su will wait till he gets there to tell him.
Vanesa calls out to Yola asking for Marina. When Yola tells her she is not there, Vanesa tells her about the tarnished silver and how Marina was probably upset about it. Vanesa then tells Yola that she apologized and clarified things with Marina (about her and Lino). Yola tells her not to worry, Marina won’t tell anyone her secret.
Marina tells Doc about her marriage and why they kept it from everyone…but she blurted it out and told Don L today. Doc chides her for keeping things from him; she doesn’t know how far Don L can go. When Doc mentions Dami, Marina cries and worries about Dami since she is still at the ranch; so Doc gives her something to calm down (Oh noes!!). Once calm, Doc assures Marina that he will go for Dami. When Marina falls asleep, he carries her to his bed. After she wakes and sits up, Marina asks for Beto, but Doc pushes her back on the bed. He grabs her by the shoulders as her chides her for trying to leave with Beto after all he has done for her…now he has her there in his bed and he isn’t going to let her go.
Don L goes into his house like a tornado and he shouts at Pru that she brought the blind one to his house. Pru tries to explain how she went to Marina to try to get her away from Beto, but Pru regretted it. She then went and apologized to Marina and asked her to come stay there so they could get to know each other. Don L grabs her tightly from the shoulders and, as he gets in her face, hisses that when the cat’s away, the rats play. He can’t believe she lowered herself to that level….he would never have allowed the blind one in his house. When Pru asks him to try to get to know Marina and give her a chance, Don L tells her that he just threw her out of his land.
Don Louse is evil and cruel. I was worried that he would rape her, so to his credit he did not do that. Hank heavens!!! I also worried that he was going to leave her in the middle of nowhere, and without her cane. So it could have been worse. I know, I know, things are bad enough as it is.
Louse's "mic drop" of Miranda's cane at Doc Mask's House was a nice touch. Jerk.
Who keeps sulphur in their kitchen? In an unmarked baggie? Beanie hat time?
Zackrat and Doc Mask can burn in hell, along with the Louse. I'm a wreck after watching this episode.
I didn't know what Don louseyass said to pru, I thought he told her to get
Out. But he's a bold lo-life. He says
He threw her off his land. Where does
He get off thinking hes above anybody?
Calling her a monkey, insulting her blindness. I don't care if he is her bio dad, when she finds out I hope she
Don't give him the time of day. And He dont even deserve her,he doesn't even
Deserve pru. Su, he deserves. She'll
Probly kill him and take his money. She said when he finds out what pru did he will devorce her. Thats a good
Thing, cuz she don't deserve that bitch
Yeah a man can be just as Bitchy as a
Woman. Worst. This guy is a new kind of low.
Doris,"I'm a wreck after watching this show. I know exactly how you feel.
He should go straight to he'll! And take the monster in the mask with him.
I hope the mask Dont try and rape her.
Beto you need to get you butt back home. HURRY PLEASE!!!!!
Well, I'm glad nobody is taking this episode too seriously or getting upset about it. :-)
Rgv chickie, thank you for taking us through this rough episode. I think you got everything just right; I know you filled in some details for me.
Unfortunately, Don Louse's type is not nearly as rare as we might hope. Not everybody is born with the gift of good character, many of us need some guidance and schooling through hard knocks over the years to develop into decent human beings. The rich and coddled are often shielded from that and sometimes never do become decent people at all.

Ep 15: The Ugly Truths
*Val peeks over the casket lid as Xotchitl reads her letter. After he sees Chile crying, he goes over to Xotchitl who is telling him that she is going to help take care of her little cousin and spoil him. When Father thanks her and tells her that Val will be happy to hear her wherever he is, Val wonders who died as they pray the Our Father. He goes over to the casket and sees himself…he thinks this is a nightmare. He then goes to Flor and calls to her, then to Chile, but they don’t hear him. Val realizes he is DEAD!.
*At Casa Rosa, one of Sami’s girls (it wasn’t Cassy after all who entered, sorry!) wants to deal with the goons and tells them that if they find the lottery ticket, they can split the money…it’s their ticket to freedom. The goons agree.
*In Mexico City, a man tells Elsa that he remembers Val and his wife who was very nice. After he tells her they had a taco stand until the cops came and took it and that Flor was from city whose name he can’t really remember, Elsa asks for Val’s wife’s name.
*At Casa Rosa, the goons and gals are tearing up the place; they won’t leave there until they find the ticket. They even wonder if the ticket might be elsewhere, but they keep looking there anyway.
*At the church, everyone is somber, except Octi who insists to Oscar that someone has to talk to the widow. The priest asks if anyone would like to say their last good-byes; so Flor approaches as the others get in line. As Tere is leaving the casket, Nestór sees that she drops her rosary, so picks it up…and sees that the casket is from ValdeGhost’s mortuary. Elsewhere, Flor sees that Itza is looking nervous; so Itza tells her she’d like to go home.
*In Mexico City, Elsa finds some cheap airline tickets while Diego writes down everything he wants to tell his father; he is glad that the man finally remembered the name of the city where Flor was from.
*Nestór is questioning Chile about the casket, but Chile denies getting it from Valdeghost’s mortuary. When he fumbles and tells Nestór that he took it only because he didn’t have money and couldn’t ask Flor for it, Nestór arrests him while Valdeghost watches and smiles. While everyone slowly walks out of the church, Nestór and his partner walk Chile to the police station as Chile pleads with them not to take him in. Nestór finally tells Chile that there may be a way for him to keep from going to jail; Chile just needs to tell him where the lottery ticket is. Chile swears he doesn’t know where the ticket is. As Nestór comments that that is what he gets for not closing down Valdeghost’s business and auctioning everything off, Valdeghost is dismayed that Nestór wants to do that. Nestór continues to take Chile to the police station.
*Itza is home and thinks the situation is a mess. Tito reminds her that Val has gone to the beyond since she put her pendant on him, but Itza isn’t sure anymore since Val didn’t have the pendant….she doesn’t know how; someone must have taken it from him. This is very serious because someone just condemned him to be punished. Tito thinks that there is still a chance since they still need to say the rosary and he can place Val’s name on the list of souls to be remembered at each mass. Itza reads her cards and keeps saying “No” because she sees that Flor’s love is among the dead and the living.
At the jail, Chile yells at the Chief Nestór…he wants him to take him out. When he gives up and asks that Val help him, ValdeGhost whispers his name which scares the heebie jeebies out of Chile. When Chile asks who he is, Valdeghost tells him he is Joaquin; so Chile starts praying that the souls leave him alone.
Ep 15, Part 2: The Ugly Truths
*Flor and friends are walking in a procession as the casket is being carried to the cemetery. Val walks beside her and calls to her, but she doesn’t hear him. Meanwhile, at Casa Rosa, the goons and gals are exhausted; they have looked everywhere and found nothing. They agree to leave and assure each other that no one will tell Sami or Octi that they were planning to keep the lottery ticket for themselves.
*Tito wonders what he can do to help Itza feel better. Itza knows that only she can handle the situation…she must make sure that Val’s soul continue on to the beyond.
*In his cell, Chile hears Valdeghost talk to him and wonders if he is a condemned soul who is there because he is with Val. Valdeghost replies that he hasn’t seen Val and thinks that he probably is on his way to the other world. Chile realizes that this is the ghost who has been bothering him all along; so Valdeghost admits that it is he…his death ended the business that had been in his family and he is not going to allow that. Chile congratulates him on his business and asks how he can help him. Valdeghost replies that he can get Chile out of there under one condition. As Chile stabs and kicks in the air trying to hit Valdeghost, he asks what the condition is; so Valdeghost tells him that he will have to take over his funeral home. Chile wonders how he is going to do that.
At the cemetery, everyone is walking to the gravesite as Val is inside the grave yelling at Flor not to leave him in there; she could at least cremate him and take him home with her. Nestór catches up to Octi and asks if the priest has talked to Flor.
At the church, Itza has a pendent like the one she gave Val and dips it in holy water to bless it. Meanwhile at the cemetery. Father Elpi starts the service and thanks everyone for being there. Flor then thanks everyone and tells them that Val would be glad to see them there. As she recalls what Sami and Cassy told her, she tells the people that she doesn’t know if Val was perfect or not…or if he made mistakes, but only God can forgive him. As she tells the people that Val left her the most beautiful thing he could leave her, a baby, Val stands beside her smiling and is overjoyed that he is going to be a father. Flor then asks that the people to pray for Val and for her.
Blondie tells Sami that they didn’t find the ticket. After she tells Sami that when they got there, the house had already been searched, Sami assumes it must have been Octi’s doing.
Teo gives his condolences to Flor and tells her that he is there for her…for whatever she needs. He is not returning to Spain so he will be close and help her while not expecting anything in return. Close by, Carmen is complaining about how long it’s taking to give her condolences to Flor when she slips and falls into the grave taking Tere and another couple with her. As everyone freaks out, Itza runs to the casket and tries to open it to put he pendant inside, but there are now too many people close by…and Val wonders what she is trying to do to him.
At the jail, Valdeghost is trying to convince Chile to take over his business. Chile wonders how Valdeghost is going to help him if he is dead; and then sets his own condition—he wants Valdeghost to help him contact Val. After Valdeghost agrees, Chile wonders how they can “high-five” if Valdeghost is dead.
At the cemetery, the casket is lowered into the grave as everyone watches. Val watches too and cries. In the back, the goon tells Octi that they didn’t find anything, but someone got there before they did and searched the place. Octi then calls over Father Elpi and tells him that he either talks to Flor about all of Val’s debts or he will. Father reminds him where they are and as Octi argues with him ,Val appears and listens. After Flor dismisses Mariana, Octi approaches her and asks to talk to her about Val’s business deals and debts with him. They agree to meet later.
Ep 15, Part 3: The Ugly Truths
Marga and Rose try to get Flor to go home, but she wants to stay there for a while. Val wonders what they have told Flor about him. Once alone, Flor comments that he just left and she is finding out such awful things about him. Val fans himself and loosens his tie as she mentions the 2 million dollars and that Cassy said the same figure, Val is surprised that Cassy came to see Flor…as he continues to get out of his tight suit.
Cassy is back home with her father who chides her for taking long to get there. She then tells him that Val has paid for everything he did to her and for the year she spent in jail. When he asks if she killed him, Cassy replies, “BINGO! …there is one less roach in the world.” After Cassy leaves, Bendito listens to the recording he just made of Cassy admitting to killing Val.
Flor is still at the cemetery. When she brings up that he was blackmailing Sami, Val tries to tell her that it was Sami who was blackmailing him. Flor then cries as she recalls what Octi said and walks away. Val is now shirtless!
Octi is at the restaurant with Flor. Val is sitting with them still shirtless. Octi thinks it’s probably not good timing, but they need to talk about Val’s debts which he had promised to pay him with the lottery ticket.
At the jail, Chile calls Nestór over and tells him that he didn’t steal anything since Valdeghost left him the business… Nestór can confirm it since there is a will in the store.
Octi continues to tell Flor about all the money Val owes him and how Val gave him the deed to her house which he has in his office. Val tries to tell Flor that he was going to pay everything back as Flor tells Octi that she wants to see all the documentation.
Cassy thinks her dad must have money in the house. She tells Malba they can use it to go on a trip, but Malba is tired of looking out for Cassy. When Cassy reminds her that they are partners, Malba reminds her that she has killed two men and thinks that Bendito will have them followed until they get their money back. Malba refuses to go with Cassy and walks away.
At the police station, Chile is in his cell talking to Val and asking for his help since he is hearing this voice or he is going crazy. He even swears not to smoke what he smoked the last time if he helps him.
At the funeral home, Nestór finds the will and asks Oscar to check it as Valdeghost watches and smiles.
Mariana asks Aure if Val talked to him about anything since Flor is being told some gossip…Sami is saying that Val was after her. Aure doesn’t believe it. Val only spoke about Flor…he never saw Val with another woman.
At the casino, Octi shows Flor all the documentation he has with Val’s signature, so Flor tells him she will pay him back every cent. Octi hopes she isn’t trying to cheat him like Val tried to do. When For asks what he means by that, Octi tells her that he caught Val cheating at his casino; that is why Val was working for him…to pay him back. Flor doesn’t want to learn anything else about Val and leaves.
Flor is on her way back when Mariana catches up to her since Xotchitl wants to stay with her so that she won’t be alone. Mariana sees that Flor is upset; so she sends Xotchitl off to buy something. Once alone, and with Val listening (now wearing a white shirt), Flor tells Mariana that she feels that she hates Val with all her might…he was a thief, a scammer, he left her full of debts and he cheated on her. Just then, Elsa walks up with Diego and asks if they happen to know Valentín Hernández. Val wonders what Elsa is doing there after such a long time. He then looks at Diego and wonders, “Don’t tell me that little boy is…”
Thank you ever so much, RGV. This was a tough episode to have to watch and then you had to recap it, a double punch in the stomach.
I was also afraid Don Louse was going to rape her or leave her in alone in a woods without her cane. Can we say he has a little heart for a fellow human being? NO? Ok, I'm with you all on that one. He's the devil alright, and he doesn't even need to be in disguise. Dumping her on Doc Mask was just as evil, because he already knows the "fried" one is obsessed with Marina and will probably keep her imprisoned. I wonder what Ramona will think when she gets back home. Will she help Marina escape?
Poor Pru--being shaken like a rag doll. This should be the limit of the abuse she takes from him. It's obvious to the Patio that she doesn't like the way he yells and at her, then immediately tries some lovey dovey stuff. She cringes.
I didn't catch at the time what Susu shook all over the silver, but yeah, who keeps sulfur in a baggie in the kitchen. And beyond that where in the world does one buy a baggie of sulfur? The potions lady in the center of town?
So, Beto decided to check out some apartments before going home. Of course he couldn't know, but bad decision. There is nothing along that path to indicate Mari was ever there, so we'll have a missing person search for at least a couple of episodes.
RGV--After MIRADA, you get another tough one, on the same day. Hopeo you had time to go pet your goats and feed them something special.
OK, so, Val is dead, but not gone. The medallion was supposed to make him go to heaven, or ward off evil spirits on the way? ...I'm confused.
Poor Flor and Xochi. They'll have a huge clean-up job when they get home, as if the revelations about Val weren't enough. I wonder where the lottery ticket is. IS there a lottery ticket? Did he really win it? If he did, then Flor must know where the ticket is. All that happened while Uni cut away to the Venezuelan troubles. My bet is that it got buried in the suit pocket with Val, but wouldn't he have said something (which of course Flor can't hear, but we could).
So, now we know Cassy claimed the honor of dispatching Val--and Daddy recorded it. I guess he's going to use it to turn her over, to keep peace in the party.
Thank you RGV
I know I am alone. It I am enjoying the actor’s portrayal of Don Louse. He is doing it with gusto, but to me he is not evil. Just a self centered opinionated jerk with glimpses of basic humanity. I think we can count on rehabilitation here. If not he will go down spectacularly
Also super is the character of Toribio. This is just perfectly done
Mely (don’t hate me)
Mely--We don't hate here. We are just "differently abled" to opine on characters. Instead of attaching all those adjectives you used to Don Louse, we just call him evil. Yes, he's doing a great job with the part. I love him in his sun glasses. Too bad he is a Louse.
The fluidity and expressiveness of your recap is not indicative of the time, effort and care you took to create this.
I never, ever thought I would be able to follow along for a show I saw only 5 times. It usually takes me weeks to figure out who everyone is but now, I'm seeing everything through your observant eyes, Rgv Chick.
So Cassy is a murderess. Will she be betrayed by her own father??
Beyond sorry I missed "Val is now shirtless!" :)
"Chile wonders how they can “high-five” if Valdeghost is dead" had me smiling. This unlikely duo is sure to make things interesting.
It seems Flor is trying to remember Val as the man she fell in love with and I can't blame her unwillingness to try and process his less than pristine past.
"Valdeghost tells him that he will have to take over his funeral home. Chile wonders how he is going to do that" makes me anticipate how all this is going to turn out.
"He then looks at Diego and wonders, “Don’t tell me that little boy is…” I wonder too. Could be a red herring, guess we will need to find out.
Anita, loved "differently abled"... in your Mirada comment above.
Rgv Chick, you are getting better all the time. As impossible as that is, you shine brighter each day. Thank you!
Diana
Good morning Patio. Still a bit under the weather but tried to watch this yesterday while I was eating. Big mistake! Hard to digest well when you're horrified and worried and yes "it's just a story but your insides are roiling.
And don't worry Mely. I too like the actor's portrayal of Don Luis, he not only does it with gusto but with a sly humor...as if to say, don't worry guys, I'm really a nice sort but they're paying me to play this villain.
Anyway, I finally turned it off and ate my dinner in peace. More or less.
Thanks so much Rgv Chick. You're a trooper and a saint to do all this.
Mely - don't worry, everyone here i has an opinion and we treat each other with respect and no judging each other----justbthe characters and writers. LOL . It's just a show. Santamaria is doing a great job in this role. I hope his character is redeemable.
The Louse mentioned "the devil" yesterday, in the first person IIRC, so he is probably responsible for Toribio's condition.
Judy - I'm glad you are feeling better!
Anita - Ramona probably doesn't have the courage to help Mari escape and thus incur the outrage of Doc Wacko.
Chickie, wow...how do you keep up with recapping ? I thank you for you dedication to the patio. I am not happy with another ghost story after that last one we went through. I need a telenovela with a happier theme.
Judyb, I hope that feel better soon.
Doris, I hope that you see improvement with each and every day.
Judy
Thank you everyone! I'm really enjoying the comments today. Very good conversation and observations.
Doris, I just love Sarah M’s song. I hesitated to change it to fit the TN, but I couldn’t resist. I didn’t occur to me that Don L would rape Marina, but I did think he would hit her or push her down a hill…if not that, leave her there without her cane. ITA that Ramona won’t have it in her to help Marina.
Nina, I was thinking the same thing about Pru divorcing Don L…ohhh, if only!
Steve, ITA agree with your description of Don Louse.
Andy, I shudder to think that Don L’s type is not as rare as we’d hope. Their poor families and victims need to get away from them or give them an ultimatum—change or be alone for the rest of your life.
Anita, this was definitely a tough episode to watch. I cringed when Don L would bark at Marina; and I couldn’t believe Marina would not back down…the girl has quite a spine, but she needs to know when to keep her mouth shut. She really added fuel to the fire by telling Don L that she and Beto are married. Did she really think she could talk some sense into that crazed devil?
In regards to Beto, I was expecting him to get some type of “feeling” that Marina was in trouble, but I guess he must not have that strong of a connection with her. I was disappointed that he allowed Eric to talk him into not rushing back.
Mely, I echo what the others have said—no haters here. I can see how Don L has some, let’s say “better” qualities. There have been a few times (emphasis on “few”) when he does seem to have a heart; and I did find it amusing how he was whistling while driving….like he didn’t have a care in the world and certainly no remorse about what he was doing.
JudyB, on Santamaria--“he not only does it with gusto but with a sly humor...as if to say, don't worry guys, I'm really a nice sort but they're paying me to play this villain.” I concur! Gotta hand it to him, he is doing a good job.
OT-JudyB, hope you continue to recover. Always glad to “see” you here.
Again, thank you to everyone for making this conversation so much more entertaining.
Anita, according to what Rose explained to Xotchitl, the Xoloitzcuintli (a hairless dog) is supposed to guide the dead to the world beyond. I suppose Itza went and bought another medallion of a Xoloitzcuintli because I didn’t see the original medallion returned to anyone.
I don’t think Flor knows where the lottery ticket is, but Flor and we did see it so we know that Val did have it in his possession. Flor told Val to put it in a safe place and left the room; so who knows where Val hid it.
Diana, I do think Cassy’s father is at least thinking about turning her in. As he was advised, it would be for the good of the country and his people (rolling eyes). Regarding Chile and Valdeghost—“This unlikely duo is sure to make things interesting.” ITA! And I am looking forward to their mischievous deeds!
Susanlynn, I’m hoping that the worst of the ghost storyline is over so you can stick to Flor. I think that this TN will be on a lighter and happier side than any other recent TN.
Doris, I forgot to mention that I had to look up "dragonglass" (since I am not a GoT fan). It is now in my vocabulary list and I think that Don L would certainly benefit from a bunch of dragonglass poured into his pants...teeheehee
Oh and I do hope you are feeling and getting around better each day.
Thank you all for your kind wishes. Each day brings imrovement. I'm looking forward to the day I am pain fee. Wheee!!! It's a process..... 🤞🏻🤞🏻
I've overdosed on Hallmark movies 😜. (often required wearing my telenovela beanie! so formulaic!!), so Mirada and hockey games have been my refuge from eye strain due reading lots of books during this time too. One day, this will all be behind me. In the meantime, I can relate to Damiana as she is back on her feet and getting around. 😉
My thanks to Rgv Chickie, or whoever put up the notice on the daytime front page, that two days are pre-empted for fútbol. I cancelled the recording, otherwise I would later try to watch and spend a lot of time scratching my head and wondering what I did wrong. :-)
andy
So sending good vibes(((((()))))))and hopefully you can rewatch some great movies on DVD like What Women Want, Somethings Gotta Give and When Harry Met Sally. Oh yes, and Moonstruck. All good.
Ep 16, Part 1: A Meeting of Souls OR False Hopes
Val is still wondering about Diego when Elsa again asks Flor and Mariana if they know Val. Flor and Mariana remain quiet until Mariana tells her it’s not a good time since Val died. Diego cries and asks if his father is dead. Flor looks shocked and repulsed at the thought of yet another devastating lie. Flor asks Elsa if she is Val’s wife; so Elsa admits that she isn’t as Diego cries that he wanted to meet his dad. Elsa hugs Diego as Val is tempted to stroke Diego’s hair, but pulls back his hand.
At the jail, Nestór and Oscar tell Chile that he is indeed the owner of the funeral home, but they have their doubts about when Valdeghost could have made his will. Chile is elated…he jumps up and dances at the thought of being the owner...and FREEEEEE! After the men leave, Chile thanks Valdeghost.
Mica chides Teo for staying. She saw him suffer…depressed, downtrodden and he even tried to take his own life. With the trip, Teo has a new perspective on the situation; he should have never asked Flor to marry him since they are just friends. And the thing about the gun shouldn’t be taken seriously because he was drunk and wasn’t really going to go through with it. Mica is afraid that he will fall again; so Teo assures her that Flor is only his friend and he will be there to support her however he can. Mica still insists that Teo has other agendas…and let lightening strike her if it isn’t so!
At the cemetery, Chile apologizes to Val for not making it to his funeral...Val wouldn’t believe the trouble he was in and even more so, the person who helped him, Valdeghost! Val must think he is gong crazy, but he really does hear Valdeghost. He asks Val to send him a message with Valdeghost if he sees him because he really doesn’t know what to do because Flor is starting to hate Val and Chile doesn’t know what to say or do. As Chile walks away, he tells Val that he misses him very much and hopes he rests in peace.
At a diner, Elsa consoles Diego and asks him to forgive her for not looking for Val earlier. Diego then asks if they can go visit the gravesite.
Mariana and Flor walk together, both in shock. Flor can’t believe that a person has to die to be known well; Val was one big lie…and the worst thing is that she can’t confront him to release all that anger she is feeling. Just then, Xotchitl approaches and asks why the little boy is sad. Mariana evades the question, but Xotchitl insists; so Flor tells her that the little boy is Val’s son. When Xotchitl asks if the boy is Flor’s son, Flor replies that the lady with him is his mother.
At the funeral home, Chile sits down at the desk to drink some coffee. When Aurelio calls to him, Chile gets startled and spills the coffee all over. Aure wonders how he got out of jail; so Chile tells him it’s a long story…but he is now the owner of the business. After he shows Aure the will, Aure wonders if Chile is feeling okay. Valdeghost then appears and tells Chile that he would like Aure to be co-owner. Chile asks Aure if he heard that, but Aure is worried that Chile has been smoking something. Chile tries to negotiate with Valdeghost and suggests that Aure get only 20%, but Valdeghost slams the drawer shut on Chile’s hand. Chile cies out in pain as Aure watches in disbelief. Chile agrees and tells Aure that they can be equal partners if Aure agrees.
At Teo’s office, Oriana complains to Teo that she needs an appointment to see him. When he reminds her that he won’t have too much time to spend with her, Oriana takes off his glasses and puts her arms around him. She understands, but she didn’t come from Spain just to go to a funeral. Teo blushes and reminds her that they are in his office, but Oriana thinks he is being distant because of Flor. She points out that a widow takes long to get over the death of her husband; and in the meantime, they can have fun and have a good time together.
Ep 16, Part 2: A Meeting of Souls OR False Hopes
Aure tries to walk out on Chile because he thinks Chile is pulling his leg…he is not amused. When Chile stops him and tells him that it’s Valdeghost who is making the suggestion, Aure responds that he doesn’t even like that business; he likes trailers. Chile asks Valdeghost if he is listening; so Aure tells him that Valdeghost was a good friend of his and Chile should not be so disrespectful to the dead. After Aure leaves, Chile asks Valdeghost if he heard how Chile was insisting to Aure about the business. When Chile gets frustrated and tells Valdeghost that he shouldn’t bother him anymore, Valdeghost speaks up and tells him that he will have to be more insistent with Aure. For some reason, Valdeghost can only be heard by Chile…so Chile is the only one who can help him rest in peace. They both wonder why Chile is the “chosen one.”
Mariana and Flor accompany Elsa and Diego to the cemetery. While Diego and Xotchitl go to the grave, Flor asks Elsa if Val knew that he had a son. Val is beside Flor and hopes that Elsa tells the truth, but Elsa replies that Val did know, but never took responsibility. Val curses and wonders why Elsa would lie.
At Val’s grave, Xotchitl suggests to Diego that he read his letter to Val, but Diego thinks it’s of no use since he wrote about things he would like to do with his father. Xotchitl then asks Diego how long they will stay in town, but Diego isn’t sure…he thinks they will leave soon. Xotchitl hopes not because Val was a lot of fun and had many friends. After she shows him pictures of Val on her phone, Xotchitl would like to take Diego around town to meet his father’s friends so that they can tell him about Val…that way Diego can get to know his father. Val is listening and praises Xotchitl for being so thoughtful; he then turns to Diego and tells him that he would have really liked to have been his father. The children go back to the ladies; and Elsa allows Diego to go with Xotchitl after Flor and Mariana assure Elsa that Diego will be fine and that the town is very safe. After the children leave, Flor wonders if Elsa will be staying in town for a while. Elsa tells her that they have airline tickets for the next day, but when Flor tells her that the bus going out of town has already left and invites Elsa to stay at her house so that Diego can see where his father lived, Elsa agrees.
The ladies arrive at Casa Rosa only to be shocked by the disarray. As Mariana goes upstairs to make sure no one is there, Flor goes from room to room shocked to see everything in shambles. As she leans against the wall, Val comes in through another wall and is amazed that he can do such a thing. Mariana comes down to tell them that no one is there and they are safe. Flor is still in disbelief with her house and blames Val since this was probably done by someone he owed money to. When Mariana wonders why anyone would do this, Elsa suggests that they had to be after something of value. Mariana realizes that they were probably after the lottery ticket. Flor is aghast and doesn’t want to hear or know anything about Val.
Bendito admits to Cassy that he had always wanted a son; he knows that it was dumb of him. When he tells Cassy that she has always been a rebel, Cassy points out that it was her way of getting his attention…she felt like he didn’t want to be close to her. Bendito responds that it was probably because she looks so much like her mother. Cassy remarks that he was comparing a one year old to a woman who left him. Bendito gets up as he tells Cassy that he never knew she was being hurt so much; he is sorry. Cassy thinks that things will now change for the better and asks for a toast to their future, but Bendito hesitates and can’t look her in the eye before lifting his glass.
Ep 16, Part 3: A Meeting of Souls OR False Hopes
At Casa Rosa, Nestór is investigating the break-in and assures Flor that he is going to set aside all the other cases he has to catch the thieves. After Flor tells Nestór that nothing is missing, he leaves. Elsa thinks Flor should go rest, but Mariana suggests that they both go stay at her house since the thieves might return. All agree.
Itza is at church telling Father Elpidio that she feels that Val’s soul is stuck. Father tells her not to worry since they will be saying a rosary to pray for Val’s soul, but Itza doesn’t think that is enough. She wants to make sure that Val’s soul doesn’t stay back in penance. Val, who is listening, doesn’t want to leave since he has so many things to do here.
At Mariana’s house, Aure can’t believe all the lies Val told them. He even wonders if the lottery ticket was a hoax. Mariana isn’t sure, but it hasn’t appeared. Before Aure leaves, Mariana warns him to be careful of what he says to Flor; so he only tells Flor that he had no idea about all the things Val had done. Mariana then suggests that Flor go rest. Elsa agrees that she needs to rest and take care of the baby. Flor shares that she is more disappointed than tired, but they are right, she needs to concentrate on the baby; she needs to throw Val down the tube and focus all her energy on the baby. Val, who was sitting beside Flor, looks downtrodden.
At the casino, Octi questions Nestór and can’t believe no one has found the lottery ticket. He thinks Flor is just avoiding paying off all of Val’s debts. After Nestór points out that Flor is a good person, Octi insists that Flor might have it and is waiting for her mourning period to end and for things to settle down, so she can split town. He tells Nestór not to take his eyes off of Flor…either she or Chile must have the ticket.
Rose and Marga go see Flor and badmouth Val since they always knew Val was a good-for-nothing. As Rose comments that Val may have thought he danced in a very sexy way, but he was an embarrassment, Val looks at them like a beat horse.
At the funeral home, Chile asks Valdeghost where the bed is. Valdeghost fudges as he tells Chile that there is no bed…but there is a casket that is very comfortable. Chile refuses to sleep in a casket.
Mariana suggests to Flor that they take all the flowers to the cemetery the next day, but Flor would rather not go. She just wants to stay calm and focus on her baby…she needs to figure out how to get over the disappointment.
The Next Day—
Chile and Valdeghost listen to the news report about Cassy being arrested for another murder based on a recording where she confesses. As Cassy is put in the patrol car, she declares that everything was her father’s doing and she has proof!
Cayetano, the party representative, calls Bendito and chides him for permitting Cassy to speak in front of the cameras. Bendito isn’t worried because it’s his word against Cassy’s; so Cayetano points out that Cassy has evidence and she will be their downfall…it won’t be long before they come after them. After Bendito hangs up, three detectives show up.
At Mariana’s house, Mariana insists that she will help Flor pay all the debts since she is Flor’s partner. While Flor argues, Val is telling them that the lottery ticket is inside the Saint Valentine figurine. Valdeghost is behind him and listening. Later, Mariana explains to Aure why she feels that she needs to help Flor pay all the debts. Aure wishes he could help, but his current job doesn’t pay much. He then tells her that he was offered a business deal and he is going to take it.
Val is at the church asking God to help him find a way to tell Flor where the ticket is. As he recalls that Chile was hearing voices and thinks that Chile might be the one to help him, Valdeghost appears and tells him that it won’t be Chile who will help him. Val jumps off the pew and wonders what Valdeghost is doing there.
Ep 16, Part 4: A Meeting of Souls OR False Hopes
Elsa thanks Flor for her hospitality. She also thinks Xotchitl is good for Diego since she is helping him overcome his sadness. Flor comments that though Val never recognized Diego as his son, Diego has a right to anything Val owned. Elsa is impressed with Flor’s generosity, but she knows that Val only had debts and problems. Flor then leaves because she has to go see Doc Mica for a check up.
Aure goes to see Chile to tell him that he changed his mind about the business offer since he needs the money. After Chile gladly welcomes him, he goes to sit at his desk and puts on some glasses…because he thinks it makes him look more interesting.
At the church, Val is glad that he is not alone. When he asks Valdeghost how he is, Valdeghost replies, “Dead.” Val gets more serious as he realizes that he is talking to the person who was killed because of him. After he apologizes to Valdeghost, Valdeghost is glad that he is there…at least he has someone to talk to. Val asks about what is happening to them; so Valdeghost explains that he has tried to figure out the mysteries of this limbo where they are. Val then realizes that Valdeghost is the one who had been talking to Chile…and since he is a master of this ghostliness, Val wonders if he can help him tell Flor where the lottery ticket is. Valdeghost closes his eyes and frowns since he doesn’t even know how he was able to get through to Chile. Val suggests that Valdeghost can tell Chile…they have a mission…and they are like superheroes in this limbo!
Val insists on asking Valdeghost if he can talk to Chile, but Valdeghost isn’t sure…he must speak to the delegate. After Val points out that they are like brothers now and gives him a hug, Valdeghost explains that there is someone referred to as the heavenly delegate. Talking to her depends on how one behaves. It’s not that easy to talk to her. If Val wants to complain to the one higher up, he can try to do so, but he may end up talking to the one lower down. Val prefers to be patient. Valdeghost then tells Val that he has to go meet with the delegate, so Val asks him to ask what she can do for him.
Valdeghost goes to see the delegate (a short, bleach-blonde lady who can’t get his name right and sounds like a female Scooby Doo) who sits at a desk surrounded by uneven stacks of files and binders. When she asks him about his student, trainee, pupil…whatever he wants to call him, Valdeghost tells her that the only one he can talk to is the one who caused his death. The delegate tells him that Val is the one she is talking about. She then looks at Val’s file that has a picture of him and comments that he is VERY good-looking...she is even going to put his picture on a calendar. She gives Valdeghost some paperwork and tells him that if he wants to pass on to the beyond, he will have to be a consultant for his student.
Flor is with Doc Mica and asks if she will need to follow a special diet because of her pregnancy. Doc Mica tells her it won’t be necessary; she has the test results…and Flor is NOT pregnant! Flor is flabbergasted.
Wow...Flor is not pregnant. That is an unexpected turn of events.
Doris, I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. People tell me that I am also going through a "process, " but I do not think that the process will ever be completed. I still feel lost and heartbroken.
Rgv Chick, so happy I decided to visit Caray tonight.
What a wonderful recap! Completely mesmerizing and fascinating. Perfect title.
First, Flor is not pregnant. A bit of a surprise and a sad disappointment for Flor, especially when it (hopefully) comes out Val may have been a bit of a scoundrel but had a heart of gold.
You conveyed the gamut of emotions so well - "Flor looks shocked and repulsed at the thought of yet another devastating lie" and then "Val curses and wonders why Elsa would lie". So many deceptions.
"Val looks at them like a beat horse" could not have been more descriptive.
“Val is listening and praises Xotchitl for being so thoughtful; he then turns to Diego and tells him that he would have really liked to have been his father”. So, he isn’t the father. An untruth corrected relatively quickly. Sadly only to viewerville.
"Cassy thinks that things will now change for the better and asks for a toast to their future, but Bendito hesitates and can’t look her in the eye before lifting his glass'. So he was a lousy father. More common than not. Isn't the strength of individuals formed when they rise to overcome toxic parenting? Not quite feeling sorry for Cassy.
“Mica still insists that Teo has other agendas”. I liked this kind but no nonsense peripheral character and glad she is still in the story.
Wish I'd seen the "delegate (a short, bleach-blonde lady who can’t get his name right and sounds like a female Scooby Doo") Sounds fun! :)
I like Val and Valde have each other and that Chile has both of them. Well, sort of...
Rgv Chick, again, my heartfelt thanks and appreciation.
Diana
YES the man is a good actor, but I can
Not stand his character he is playing. He is heartless.
About marina not backin down, she may
Have gotten that stubbornness from her
Bio daddy. Of course its gettin her into trouble. But I hope she keeps that stubborn strength, she's gonna need it.
I think Ramona may be to afraid of the
Mask to help marina. And he lookin at her body like He's gonna have his way with It. HELL TO THE NO!
JudyB I hope you come back pain free &
Happier than a bouncy babygirl.
Yes, grief is a process and it's neither fun nor pretty. It's messy. Everyone does it at their own speed. You suffered a terrible loss last year, and to add insult to injury, were completely blindsided by the unexpected suddenness of it. It's the pits. Really. While your husband is physically no longer on this earth, I believe his spirit will always be with you and he will always be in your heart. You will move forward at your own pace and come out the other side whole. (((Hugs))) You continue in my prayers.💗💗💗
Thanks for the support re my enjoyment of Santamarina’s portrayal of Don Louse. I never skip ahead when he is on. I even replayed the “mic drop” with Marina’s cane. OTOH I usually FF Doctor Isauro. He really disturbs me
To be truthful, I enjoyed Claudia Martin’s performance in Amar more than her portrayal of Marina. I thought she earned her entire paycheck in the scene where her husband was accusing and berating her and they mainly just showed her face
On a happier note Luís Bayard is fabulous as Toribio. He is amazing
Mely
I will echo your lovely sentiments doris, and I gree that he will always be there and with our Susanlynn. Not being able to say goodbye must be beyond painful Susanlynn but I would wager you told him you loved him every day in every way. Knowing he was loved so deeply was a blessing and I'm sure a comfort.
Also, just as a bit of encouragement doris, hub had both his knees replaced and while I can't say I could "feel" his pain, he was in agony at times especially early on. But, brighter days came and he did end up virtually pain free with just a twinge every now and then just to remind him. I pray those days are here for your soon.
Diana
FLOR
Susanlynn and Diana, not being pregnant is going to be another devastating hit for Flor...that was the one thing that she was hoping to help her through all the disappointment, now she has nothing. I hope she finds something or someone that will help and give her a reason to get everything.
Diana, thank you for your kindness and my apologies for not being clear. Val IS Diego's father. He was telling Diego that he wished he could have been a father to him, but now he can't because he is dead. What I'm wondering is why Elsa would lie to Flor by telling her that Val did know about Diego when, in reality, he didn't. To add to that, I was thinking that maybe Diego was actually Chile's son (Chile could have used Val's name); Diego does seem to resemble Chile more than Val (maybe the hair?) but I threw out that thought since Val truly believes that Diego is his son.
BTW Did anyone notice that Chile was looking straight at Valdeghost when they were sitting side-by-side? Chile is noly supposed to be hearing Valdeghost, not seeing him too.
Ep 17, Part 1: Between a Rock and a Devil’s Deal
Mica runs over to Teo and tells him he might want to go in and see Flor. When he asks what is wrong, Mica tells him that there is nothing wrong with Flor, but she just told Flor that she wasn’t pregnant…and Flor is looking very sad…she really wanted to be a mother.
Teo goes in to see Flor who is still stunned. Somber music plays as Flor tells him that there is no baby; there never was. Teo tells her that things happen in life and there’s always a reason. Flor wonders why things happen to her; the baby was the only thing that gave her purpose…and now she has lost everything…her house, her academy…since Val left her with so much debt. Teo offers to lend her money. Flor appreciates it, but she doesn’t need another debt. Flor doesn’t need money; she needs time to get out of this pit. When Teo notes that she sounds very disillusioned with life, Flor replies that is how she is feeling...for being so trusting; she should have known better. After she thanks him for worrying about her, she leaves.
Chile and Aure are at Casa Rosa cleaning up. Chile wonders if the ticket got lost. Aure wonders too since that ticket was going to help many of them, but then tells Chile that they need to get to work…they struggle as they try to place potted palm trees where they used to be.
Outside, Oriana bumps into Flor and invites her for a drink. Flor tries to get out of it, but Oriana insists because it is thanks to Flor that she met Teo…and who else better to tell her more about Teo than Flor.
Lady Delegate urges Valdeghost to help Val…maybe he is the key to getting Valdeghost to cross over. She then points out that if he had gone to the training, he’d have a better understanding about how everything works. Valdeghost doesn’t think it’s fair that everything is being given to Val on a silver platter with a mentor when he had no one to guide him. Lady Delegate tells him that is called “coaching” and nothing is fair after death. Each soul has a different way of crossing over…some things are required of some that are not required for others…it’s just a mess. Valdeghost then assumes that his mission is to help Val complete his own mission. Lady Delegate gives a snorty laugh before she tells him that he isn’t as dumb as he looks. Yes, he needs to help Val communicate to his loved ones through someone named “Chile.” Lady Del then has to leave because there was a bus accident and it s gonna take her all day long.
Flor and Oriana sit in front of a restaurant as Oriana tells Flor that Teo has everything…intelligence, good-looking, charisma…and a good lover! He is like a gift from God. Oriana notes that Flor is somewhat out of it, but Flor assures her she is heard everything…divine gift and all. Oriana doesn’t understand how Flor didn’t pay any attention to him, so Flor explains that she does love Teo very much, but in a different way. Oriana is glad because when she met Teo he was like a bullfighter right smack in the middle of an arena. Flor asks that they continue talking later because she is really not up to this right now. Oriana tries to insist on continuing, but finally let’s Flor go.
Valdghost goes to tell Val that he has good news and bad news. The good news is that they can talk to Chile about Val’s issues; the bad news is that Valdeghost is the only one who can actually talk to Chile. When Val complains, Valdeghost emphasizes that the delegate clearly told him that Val is forbidden from having any contact with anyone from the world of the living. If he tries contact anyone, Val will be punished. They then go on their way to talk to Chile.
Ep 17, Part 2: Between a Rock and a Devil’s Deal
Flor arrives to Mariana’s looking devastated; so Mariana knows that something is wrong. When Flor tells her that there is no pregnancy, Mariana invites her to stay with her as long as she wants, but Flor needs to be alone so that she can get over all the hurt caused by Val’s death. Flor is furious that Val had to die so that she could find out what type of man he was. Mariana reminds Flor that things happen for a reason. Flor agrees…maybe this pregnancy didn’t happen so that she can take Val completely out of her heart. Mariana worries that Flor is so full of resentment; she doesn’t want her keeping all of that in. Flor needs time and to be alone in order to succeed in being rid of all the hurt and resentment.
Sami is in bed with Octi (clothed) and tells him that she cannot be with a man who doubts her. Octi insists that it isn’t just doubts that he has because he saw her with his own eyes. Sami retorts that he only saw part of it and imagined the rest; so Octi gives up and tells her that eventually she will come begging to him. Sami wonders what he means by that.
Elsa tells Flor that she and Diego should be leaving soon. Flor wants her to wait a while since she has a surprise for Diego—pictures of Val. Diego thinks his father had the eyes of a sleeping sheep and makes a face. After Xotchitl remarks that she doesn’t want them to leave unless Elsa promises that they will return, Diego also states that he doesn’t want to leave. The children then go off for some ice cream. When Flor asks Elsa if she would like something of Val’s to remember him by, Elsa declines the offer. She thanks Flor for making her feel so welcome.
Aure tells Chile that they are finally finished, As Chile turns the Saint Valentine statuette around, Flor enters and crosses her arms when Chile greets her. Flor tells him that she wants him out of her house NOW! Chile wonders why; so Flor responds that just because he cleaned up a bit, she isn’t going to forgive him for all the lies he covered up for Val. Chile understands what she must be going through, but he has no idea what Flor is talking about. Aure tries to speak up for Chile, but Flor tells him to be quiet and proceeds to run Chile out of her house. After Chile mentions that Val would not have allowed it, Flor hisses that she doesn’t want that name being mentioned to her. Chile looks downhearted as he agrees to leave. Aure then tells Flor that she went too far with Chile, but Flor ignores him and asks if he saw a box of photos of Val as they were cleaning. Aure didn’t see such a box.
Octi goes to Blondie (Paris) and gives her a kiss; she is his favorite dancer. When he tells her that she will be the main dancer of the show, Paris wonders if Sami knows that she will be replacing her; Paris doesn’t want any problems. Octi insists that she do as he says; if she has any problems with Sami, she should come to him. He then tells her that if she is going to rehearse, that she do it quietly.
Flor found the box of photos. She cuts herself out of each one and throws her pictures away. She then puts the remainder of the photos in the box to take to Diego.
Chile is at the funeral home by himself when Valdeghost appears and startles him. Valdeghost tells him that he has seen his friend who can’t come to him because he is being punished, but Val sent a message…the message is not for Chile, it is actually for Flor. And Chile will have to relay it to Flor.
Flor gives Diego the pictures. After he expresses his gratitude, Elsa tells her that she and Diego are leaving. Flor and Xotchitl invite them to come back since they are welcome to stay in Flor’s home.
In town, a vagabond is going around asking for a taco. One of the restaurant owners offers him some free food as Nestór watches and tells his partner that they don’t need people like that in their town.
Ep 17, Part 3: Between a Rock and a Devil’s Deal
Flor walks through town with Mariana who can’t believe Teo would be such a ladies’ man once he got to Spain. She wonders if Flor believes what Oriana said since they all know that Teo is the quiet type and well-mannered. Flor isn’t sure but it really doesn’t matter to her; what bothered her is the way Oriana was talking…quite uppity and odd. Mariana wonders if Flor is a bit jealous, but the last thing Flor wants to do right now is think about a man. Just then, they bump into Marga and Rose. Marga was thinking of going to see Flor since they have so many things to do now that there is a baby on the way. Flor evades the topic and tells Marga that she needs to be alone and walks away leaving Mariana to explain to Marga about the disappointing news.
Flor goes home and walks through the house remembering her happy times with Val. Just then, Chile bangs on the door asking to let him in so they can talk; he has something important to tell her. Flor yells at him to leave; she doesn’t want to talk to him. Chile tries to give up, but Valdeghost urges him to go back and try again. Chile goes back and tells Flor that it has to do with the lottery ticket. As he tells her where it is, one of the HTT ladies overhears and goes to spread the info. Meanwhile, Val worries whether Flor heard or if she will find the ticket. After pleading with Valdeghost who warns him that he can’t contact or touch Flor, Val enters the house.
The townspeople all gather to discuss/argue about how they should claim the money and what they should do with the money. Marga and Rose approach and chide the townspeople for talking about Flor’s money as if it belonged to the town. After Marga calls them vultures, Rose tells them they should all get to work. Later, Marga, Rose, Octi and Oscar all barge into Flor’s home. When Oscar tells her that Chile shouted to her about where the lottery ticket is, Flor wonders if they really believe Chile. Rose tells her where it is, so Flor goes to get the statuette gives it to them. Octi grabs it and is about to slam it on the floor when Rose stops him, but he continues to do so anyway. There is NO ticket! Flor asks them to leave her house now that they see that the ticket is not there. Flor thinks that Chile probably lied so Octi wants to have Chile arrested for withholding information, giving false statements and whatever else they can think of. Rose agrees that Chule has to tell them everything he knows. They all argue until Flor interrupts and asks if any of them have taken her feelings into consideration. After they all get quiet, Octi tells Flor that he is not moving from there until they figure out how Flor is going to pay for all of Val’s scams. Val, who has been listening all the while, lunges at Octi demanding that he not talk to his wife like that, but Valdeghost holds him back and reminds him he might be sent to hell if he makes contact with them.
Outside the city, Nestór and his partner escort the vagabond out of the city. Nestór tells him that there are only hard working people in town, so the vagabond should think of getting some type of work. The vagabond reacts as if he were being offered poison, so Nestór tells him that he wil then go to jail. As the vagabond argues, Valdeghost places the lottery ticket in the vagabond’s coin can. Nestór then warns the vagabond that if he catches him begging for money again, he will be in big trouble; so the vagabond leaves.
Chile is at the funeral home when Octi and Oscar come in to question him. Octi wants to get physical since Chile tells them that he knows nothing more than what he told Flor, but Oscar tells him to calm down; he doesn’t want violence. When Oscar tells Chile that the ticket was not in the statuette, Octi thinks that Chile has it; so Chile invites them to search around because he doesn’t have it.
Ep 17, Part 4: Between a Rock and a Devil’s Deal
Marga and Rose are with Flor. Marga recalls how the same thing happened to her when her husband died; people tried to take advantage of her because she was now alone. Rose mentions that Flor is now a millionaire so men will probably be after her. Marga reminds her that the ticket still has to appear. When Marga and Rose start talking about taking trips, Flor invites them to leave and go talk to the other ladies who like to talk about money and such things; Flor just wants to rest. Marga and Rose continue to argue until Flor tells them that if she happens to find the ticket, she will give it to them…they just need to leave NOW.
Oscar is at his house when Teo sees that he is worried. Oscar tells him about the predicament Flor is in with all of Val’s debts.
Marga and Rose are in front of Flor’s house trying to figure out what happened to the ticket. Rose thinks Flor has it and Marga thinks someone stole it. As they talk, Octi comes and barges into Flor’s house despite being warned that Flor is in a really bad mood.
At the town gazebo, Val swears to Valdeghost that he left the ticket in the statuette. He worries that he left Flor alone, a widow full of debts. He asks Valdeghost to help him because Flor is getting to the point where she doesn’t even want to say his name. Valdeghost gasps since that would be a real tragedy—if his loved ones forget about Val, then his soul will just disappear…POOF,,, into the land of the forgotten.
The vagabond stops to rest under a bridge. He sits back and relaxes before looking in his coin can and finds the lottery ticket. He laughs as he looks around making sure no one is looking.
Aure asks Marga to look after Xotchitl so he can spend some alone time with Mariana. Marga thinks that they are still having problems and suggests that he just go ahead with the divorce, but Aure clarifies that things are good between him and Mariana.
Octi and Flor are talking at her house. When Octi asks how she plans to pay back Val’s debts, Flor tells him she might get a mortgage on the house, but Octi reminds her that the house is not hers. Val is listening and cursing Octi as Flor pleads with him not to take her house and the academy. Flor offers to pay Octi in monthly payments, but Octi isn’t into that type of business. When Flor mentions that it is all she and Mariana have, Octi brings up her baby; so Flor tells him she isn’t pregnant. Val looks at her sadly and wonders how it is that she isn’t pregnant. After Flor explains to Octi that it was a false alarm, she pleads with him to come to some type of an agreement; she is willing to do anything. This catches Octi’s attention and interest since there is something she could do for him…something she is good at and isn’t doing. Octi wants her to dance for him at the casino; he wants her to be the star of the show!
Rgv Chick, thank you for clearing the fact that Val IS Diego's father. How sad for both of them.
Now, I see you've posted another recap so must read immediately.

Loved “Between a Rock and a Devil’s Deal” Rgv Chick!
Another amazing outing. Your creative inspiration continues.
Sometimes just the smallest crafted phrases bring the greatest joy – “snorty laugh” was my favorite.
“Somber music plays as Flor tells him that there is no baby; there never was”. How utterly sad. “Lady Del then has to leave because there was a bus accident and it s gonna take her all day long” made me shiver a bit.
I had to smile at “Lady Delegate tells him that is called “coaching” which of course is so prevalent in today’s work environment. So, death mirrors life. Ironic…
“Oriana tells Flor that Teo has everything…intelligence, good-looking, charisma…and a good lover! He is like a gift from God”. TMI Oriana, TMI Reading this, I think Oriana’s time with Teo will shortly come to an end. Is she as obnoxious as she sounds or does she lack confidence trying to hold onto her man or thirdly, is she just trying to convince herself?? Hmmm. Reading further, I think Flor’s assessment “quite uppity and odd” may have answered my question.
“Flor… proceeds to run Chile out of her house”. Oh noes!!! Hopefully this relationship can be repaired. Quickly.
So what will happen with the wayward lottery ticket? Was Valdeghost's spiriting it away (sorry, couldn't help myself) part of some larger scheme?
“Valdeghost holds him back and reminds him he might be sent to hell if he makes contact with them” and “if his loved ones forget about Val, then his soul will just disappear…POOF,,, into the land of the forgotten” So, this isn’t quite all fun and games. There is a serious side to death, or actually near death in this case, isn’t there?
Thank you, thank you Rgv Chick. Having savored your recap, I’m ready to face the day.

This is for anyone reading these wonderful recaps who has not commented.
Please make your presence known by taking a moment to thank our fabulous recappers. Even though there are only a few faithful regular commenters, these recaps continue to be written with the care and effort usually reserved for a much larger audience.
You don't need to even sign your real name - a nickname will do! We're being given such gifts, it would be wonderful if others could step forward and join in the fun.

Diana, thank you for your encouragement. I hope your hubby did not have both knees done at the same time. Wonderful that he is doing great! All my friends who've had total knee replacement say the physical therapy is awful. Our son's fiancé had torn ACL surgery and I think the recovery and P.T. for it was equally bad or worse because of the brace she has to wear. I will be curious to see what my Ortho surgeon says about my knees next week. Ugh... the warranty has expired on this body and now it is patch, patch, patch. LOL I'm so grateful that I still get around on my own!!! Knowing a friend with MS (who shows no self pity) keeps me on the gratitude side of life. The God of my understanding 💗 puts people in my life to show me the way to live.
FLOR
I felt so sorry for Chile when Flor ran him off so cold-heartedly. I do understand that she is very hurt because of everything she is finding out about Val, but she is taking it out on Chile, who while a dedicated friend to Val, still has a big heart.
I'm really not sure how serious Valdeghost is when he warns Val about being punished and going to the land of the lost. He always has this smirk that makes me doubt him, plus the fact that he is such a prankster and wants to get even with Val for having been killed. OTOH, Lady Del did tell Valdeghost that Val was prohibited from making contact with the living and she did give him something to read but we were never informed as to what the information indicated.
Re: the lottery ticket--I have no idea why Valdeghost chose the vagabond to give the ticket to, but I did think it was mean of him to take the ticket from Flor who is not responsible for anything Val did. I'm hopeoing that he will repent and get it back to Flor somehow.
doris, I smiled broadly at "Ugh... the warranty has expired on this body and now it is patch, patch, patch". I feel the same way but have never managed to express it so perfectly!
And I've written down "The God of my understanding 💗 puts people in my life to show me the way to live" which made my eyes well up. Just beautiful.
No, hub had both done separately. doris, in the interest of full disclosure, the doctor told him he should have had them done a minimum of 10 years earlier which I think was a huge contributor to his particular pain. Driving a truck, pushing on the clutch hundreds of times every day for decades took a toll. PT was rough most days but he persevered. He is grateful and doing fine.
Praying for a positive outcome at the ortho next week.

Rgv Chick, it is I who am grateful but your kind words are always so very appreciated!
Thank you for your insight on Valdeghost. It would certainly make sense he is still upset and is far from forgiving, let alone forgetting. Maybe he wants to scare the "daylights" out of Val (again, so sorry, I just don't seem to be able to stop myself) which is somewhat understandable. But as you noted, Flor doesn't deserve his interference.
I'm going to cut Flor some slack for her treatment of my man Chile but do expect her to reconsider once her heart starts healing. That said, I'm not sure if anyone is standing up for Val other than Chile who's been exiled.
Things are grim for Flor but at least she has a job offer doing something she loves. Or used to love...
Thank you Rgv Chick!!!
