LA REINA DEL SUR 2, Jueves

The Mexicans are looking quite peaceful of late in comparison to the Spaniards!

We see a battle going on in Lebanon, with some soldiers shooting at what appear to be sort of ISIS type guys. Later we discover Lupo was in the military there and saw some women and children killed by friendly fire.

Teresa figures out Lupo's name in Sofía's mural. She says it appears in two parts: The LU has rainbows and suns, while the PO has un colmillo y sangre (a fang and some blood). Somehow this tells her that Lupo is the kidnapper, even though Epifanio ordered it.

We then see Lupo remembering Sofía asking him why he kidnapped her and burying his face in his hands. [This Italian actor does guilt-stricken face very well!]

I can’t figure out why Jonathan is in some loud club in D.C. trying to buy drugs. Later I realize that he’s approached Sergio, Manuela’s nephew. Willy has helped set up a fake police sting in which Sergio believes that his new buddy shot a cop to save him. Actually, I don’t think shooting was the plan, but Sergio was armed and Jonathan was afraid he would actually hurt someone. Jonathan knew the cop had on a vest. Willy plans to use the friendship with Sergio to find out what Manuela is up to.

Oleg’s hacker finds that Francesco checks out as who he said he is. But we later find out that Alejandro set something up to foil the hacker.

Morgana ratted out Batman for the call to Teresa and Epi is ready to – once again – burn the palm of his hand. But Batman is saved by Alejandro telling Epi about the hacker looking into Lupo.

Manuela finds Sergio having a seizure or something when she comes home. I think he took too many of the legally prescribed drugs he takes for his mental illness.

Sofía has managed to get the cat inside and is talking to it. Rotten Morgana sees a poster with a lost cat reward, but later it doesn’t appear she knows the cat has been inside.

Alejandro spies on Carmen in church. [I’m surprised a bolt from on high doesn’t strike this devil.] He asks Epifanio to find out something about Padre Anselmo.

Morgana is messing with Batman, thinking she’s got the upper hand. Big mistake, Morgana. Sofía throws water and puts out Morgana’s cigarette and later finds the lighter she left.

The plane bringing Teresa and Oleg to Málaga arrives and Francesco meets them. Oleg doesn’t look impressed by the Italian. Oleg goes off to settle with Petrovich, the Russian who sold Teresa to the Galicians. Apparently the guy ratted Oleg out to Moscow and killed the family of Oleg’s bodyguard. Petrovich’s life expectancy is not very long.

All the TV’s in Marbella are full of news about Rocío and Paloma, the Aljarafe murderers. The ghastly woman who owns the pensión sees it on her TV. She comes to confront them and to lock them in until the police arrive. A bad fight happens. At first I think the harridan might have killed Paloma knocking her head into a mirror. Anyway, Rocío calls Teresa, who is on her way. Flores is also on the way. Nah! Flores never succeeds at anything. The girls are sure to be rescued by Teresa.

Thank you, deb, for the programming info. “No te puedes esconder” sounds good because it is ten episodes. I like those short runs on tv whether they be one season like “The Fix” or multi seasoned like “Killing Eve” or “Walking Dead.”

Thank you, novelera. I am glad that you knew that was Lebanon. I hadn’t a clue. It sure makes Francesco more complicated.

I am not happy that Epifanio’s visit gave Morgana the temerity to slap “sardines for breakfast” Sofía. That cat will have a happy bfast.. Also, I didn’t like that Epifanio threatened to burn out Batman’s eyes next time if he ever did something like letting Sofía talk to her mother again. Anyway, it looks like Batman is putting Morgana in her place one more time with the threat of physical violence himself. I hope she has an unpleasant end. Haven’t I said that before? Maybe she and Cayetana can leave town together or share a cell or a grave . . . . Nor was I happy that Epifanio and crew were able to block Oleg’s hacker’s internet search of Francesco.

It made me laugh when Francesco described Oleg as “un poco áspero” (a little surly).

Should be a good one tonight.

"Flores is also on the way. Nah! Flores never succeeds at anything." It was a relief to see Flores participate. The girls will be safe.

There was so much more I would have liked to have written. Crazy week. I had an evening meeting, evening class, and book club this week and a dinner thing tonight. I feel like I'm meeting myself at the front door.

I also loved the things Morgana and Batman said to each other. She said she had a dog that used to be tough but she turned it into a perro faldero (lap dog); i.e. she had Batman where she wanted him. Later he said he had a dog that barked all the time until he knocked out its teeth. Then the dog was quiet. I know he's a despicable narco, but I've sort of liked Batman through both series. I remember well how he despised Ratas even before the murder of his family.

That owner of the pensión is a piece of work. She also looks like she might have run a brothel to get the money for the place. I was expecting Rocío to kill her when they struggled, but that would have been too much.

Thanks so much, Lucio, for the explanation of how Juan went over the side of the building. I watched the recording a couple of times and couldn't really see it well.

I want to add my belated thanks to Lucio for the very helpful details about Juanito's death. Also, thanks to deb for the info about upcoming Telemundo offerings. I'll take a pass on El Señor and Sin Senos, but the shorter one may be interesting. I guess the next one up is Un poquito tuyo, which starts on Monday at 8 PM. I doubt I'll watch it, but the presence of Jorge Salinas is a bit tempting. I enjoyed him a LOT in La que no podia amar on Univision years ago.

And MANY thanks, novelera, for another excellent recap. I suspect Telemundo used some old news footage for the Lebanon scenes, just inserting Lupo's face briefly so we'd know he had been there and had been devastated over the deaths of the women and children whose deaths he tried unsuccessfully to stop. Sofia's portrayal of Lupo as split between goodness and evil seems more and more true. And at the end of last night's episode, we find what is probably another reason not to trust him. He tells Teresa that he hired a lawyer who gave the police lots of evidence about who killed Pedro, and they now realize that Teresa is innocent and Interpol is no longer looking for her. Hmmm, for some reason I don't think he's telling the truth (again).

I too was confused at first at the drug scene. I didn't even recognize Jonathan, and for a while I thought he was Sergio! I eventually caught on, but it really took the later scene with Willy, Jonathan, and the guy who played the cop Jonathan supposedly killed before I pieced the whole thing together. (I do remember wondering why a cop would patrol an area like that at night without a partner.)

I was surprised and dismayed that the hacker Oleg hired found only the page the bad guys had put up to fool searches for info about Francesco. Gimme a break! With all the info on the Internet these days from so many different sources, I find it hard to believe that any hacker worth his salt could find only that one [fake] page. I also was surprised that the bad guys could know that Oleg et al had found the fake page. Wouldn't the hacker have taken steps to disguise who and where he is before he does such a search?

So Oleg has an additional reason to come to Málaga: to deal with the treacherous Russian Ivanovich (I'm pretty sure that's his name) who set up Teresa with the Galicians AND informed on Oleg to the Russian government, causing Oleg to have to return to Russia and leave his business in Ivanovich's hands. Oleg plans to administer Russian justice. As you said, novelera, the guy is probably not long for this world.

Did anyone happen to notice the necklaces that the obnoxious hotel owner (?) was wearing. I think I may have caught a glimpse of the emerald, but I'm not sure.

One more question: why did the priest leave the confessional after Carmen left. Other people were waiting. Did Padre Anselmo come just for her? It seemed a bit strange. Then again....

I thought for sure Batman would say he let Sofia make the call to get the phone number, but nope, he's tough, and knew the drill when Epi lit the cigar.

Sofia showed Batman his boys names in the drawing and I think he saw earlier Lupo's name that didn't get washed off and he showed those parts of the drawing as Sofia narrated, he must have known what she was doing, his boys names didn't matter because he revealed himself at the end of the call.

and thanks Juanita for adding the good/bad in her drawing of Lupo, which concerns Oleg and Teresa.

and the boys names had little angel wings.

I'm thinking Francesco really did clear Teresa for the killing of Pedro in Italy, he knew she was in Mexico at the time, and Teresa/Maria thanked him because she wanted to go back there, but it's like Oleg says, he's too good.

Deb, you have an eagle eye for Pote's gun. That could well be it. And I wondered later how Sergio could have gotten into that club packing heat. The District of Colombia has very strict gun laws.

I also think, deb, that Lupo may have gotten security camera footage of Siso and the Psychos that would have cleared Teresa. After all, I would strongly suspect Teresa to have had security cameras set up long ago, perhaps before she fully trusted the Witness Protection that was set up. And, goodness knows, Epifanio has a vested interest in Teresa being free to return to Mexico and infiltrate Zurdo Villa's cartel.

And, Jarifa, you gave me a real "Duh!" moment. I wasn't connecting the dots that the sardines were for the cat. And Sofía was so clever, saying she didn't like to be watched while she ate. And she only threw the water at Morgana, keeping the sardines for El Gato.
 

novelera, since I do like sardines myself and might consider them for a late breakfast, I confess that it didn’t hit me about them being for the cat until I wrote my comments this a.m.

So many plots and so many details!

Talking about cat. Ideas for free-Sofía: She has crayons and the cat. What if she puts a message on the cat with "Sofía + Teresa's phone number." If someone finds the cat, they will think it is the owner's phone, contact Teresa to get the cat and she will come to pick it up.

La Reina del Sur 2 - Viernes - Parte 1 de 2
Vasily Ivanovich is sitting at a bar in Marbella, drinking. Suddenly Oleg appears. Ivanovich is stunned. He thought Oleg would never return. Oleg takes out a pistol and tells Ivanovich that they're going to play Russian roulette. Six chambers, one bullet. He'll have to pull the trigger twice, once for killing the family of Oleg's friend and employee Anton, and once as payback for selling out the Mexicana to Siso Pernas.

The scene shifts to Málaga. Francesco and Teresa arrive at the pensión where Rocio and Paloma have been locked up by the owner, who has also called the police. The owner, Francisca, is outside waiting for the police. Francesco and Teresa claim they are from the homicide department and have come in response to her call. After some uncertainty, Francisca leads them upstairs, making it clear that she's risking her life to help them and expects something in return. Francesco calls out to the girls that they should open the door, he's the National Police. He and Teresa enter. Rocio immediately grasps what's happening. She and Paloma put up their hands and let the "police" lead them from the room. As they're about to go down the stairs to the ground floor, Francisca says that she she expects a favor in return, such as no more inspections of the pensión. Rocio says it's not a pensión, it's a pigsty (pocilga). Francisca goes after her, and Rocio punches her, causing her to fall down the stairs.

The scene shifts back to Marbella. A very nervous Ivanovich pulls the trigger. Click. "You're a lucky man," says Oleg. "One more time and you'll be rid of us."

In Málaga, Flores arrives. He enters the pensión and sees Francesco at the desk. Francesco claims to be the owner, and shows Flores his "wife," bound and gagged. This is what the girls did to her. He gives Flores the key to the girls' room. Flores goes upstairs and, to his astonishment, he finds Teresa. He's delighted that he'll now have a chance to arrest her. He puts on handcuffs and accuses Teresa of being bored with the respectable life Willy made possible. Flores is sure that Teresa has returned for vengeance and to get back the money that was taken from her. Teresa, in turn, tells Flores that he used to be a good cop but sold out. She said that right before he died, Teo told her that he, Teo, had betrayed her because Flores offered him a 2-year prison term and permission to keep the millions of dollars he had stolen from Teresa. Rocio and Paloma, hiding in a sort of closet, overhear the entire conversation between Teresa and Flores.

The scene shifts again to Marbella. Ivanovich pulls the trigger for the second time. Oops. His luck ran out.

Flores continues to berate Teresa. He's sure that Teresa first tried to get the money back from Cayetana, but Cayetana refused, so now Teresa is trying to blackmail the granddaughters. Teresa finds Flores' account amusing. He is about to take her downstairs when Francesco comes up behind him and knocks him out. The girls come out of hiding, but sirens announce the arrival of the backups Flores had called for. But not even this fazes Teresa. She and Francesco come out the front door seeming to be the captives of Rocio and Paloma, who are right behind them. Francesco and Teresa explain to the two policemen that the girls are very dangerous. The girls demand that the police put down their weapons, which they do. The girls then push Teresa and Francesco into the two policemen, knocking them out. Then the four of them get away in Francesco's car.

We then see Siso and others sitting in a car watching Conejo's house (which is also in Málaga, I think). They're waiting for Teresa. Siso is sure she'll arrive within 24 hours.

La Reina del Sur 2 - Viernes - Parte 2 de 2

Epifanio talks with Alejandro about Padre Anselmo. Epifanio met the priest through Carmen, and Carmen insisted that Padre Anselmo be the one to marry them. From then on, Epifanio found himself giving money to the priest for an orphanage. Epifanio kept trying to find something bad about him, but he failed. He tells Alejandro that he, Epifanio, is going to go see Carmen and put an end to their marriage. Just then, a young man comes into the room to tell them that a TV journalist, Marietta Lancaster, is saying nasty things about Epifanio. They turn on the TV. Lancaster says that for months, she and her team have been investigating candidate Vargas, and she promises that her next program will be devoted to answering the question "What is Epifanio Vargas hiding?"

Genoveva Alcala is at the studio watching as Marietta ends the program. She's furious with Marietta. Marietta is disappointed that Genoveva, who comes from a good family and used to be her student, doesn't see the truth about Epifanio: he's a drug lord. Genoveva denies this, and the two of them continue to argue. Finally, Genoveva says that she's planning to announce her engagement to Epifanio on her show, and after that, she'll step down, since her journalistic ethics tell her that she can't interview him if she's engaged to him. Marietta persists in telling Genoveva that she's making a mistake about Epifanio.

Francesco drives to a deserted place where Oleg is waiting. Francesco helps Rocio out of the car. There seems to be a momentary attraction between them, but finally all Rocio says is "You look familiar". The two girls get into Oleg's car, and Teresa is about to follow. She won't tell Francesco where she'll be ("for security reasons"), but she says he has her phone number. He tells her he's puzzled: "Teresa, Tesa, Maria Dantes--who are you?" Teresa says she'll explain everything the next time she sees him. "Are we on for dinner tonight?" he asks. She tells him she's not sure. Oleg continues to glare at Francesco as Teresa gets into Oleg's car.

Oleg takes Teresa and the girls to a house owned by someone whom Oleg trusts. Teresa tells Paloma she knows that she doesn't really want to be here, but at least she's safe. Paloma tells her she overheard everything Teresa said about her father. "He may have done some bad things, but he was my father." Teresa tells her she not only understands her feeling, she respects it.

Anton returns to the house with several shopping bags filled with clothes for the girls and Teresa. Teresa gives the shopping bags to the girls and tells them to go upstairs, bathe, and rest. She also tells them that they can't go back to their old lives. They can't stay in Spain.

As if to underscore their not being able to remain in Spain, we see Juan's mother looking fierce and Drago sharpening a knife. At night, a number of the gypsies arrive at what I think is Cayetana's house. It's surrounded by a wall, but one of the gypsies gets over the wall and opens the door to the grounds.

Both Francesco and Teresa are taking showers--quite separately, but they seem to be thinking of each other. Finally Francesco calls her. He asks whether he should call off what he'd planned for that night. She tells him it can't be in any public place. No problem. He'll call and give her the address. After hanging up, she chooses one of the dresses Anton has bought for her. It's a long black dress that seems designed to show off her boobs. What effect it will have remains to be seen, since the episode ends.

I've got dirt on the candidate, believe him to be a narco murderer. Details next week. Wow! Something bad is going to happen to her or her family.

"You look familiar" - interesting, is there something behind it? Like maybe Paloma did see Lupo somewhere before?

In the conversation between Paloma and Teresa, Paloma said: "And now everybody is looking for us as murderers." And then she added – "Something like that happened to you and my father, didn't it?" – looking her in the eye, almost begging. Teresa nodded, not very convincing to me, but maybe that was enough for Paloma. Paloma witnessed how Teresa put a lot of effort, risked her life to save her and her sister. It is vitally important for her to accept Teresa's help. But the accusation that Teresa killed her father makes her very uncomfortable. I think she needs this version of the truth to accept Teresa. And Teresa should grab the version Paloma offered and stick to it.

The Aljarafe girls are now completely dependent on Teresa. Isn't she technically their stepmother? Maybe she will take them to Mexico.

The estrega spit out the accusation of Teresa killing Teo Aljarafe, her father, to Sofïa, just to hurt her, really. Estrega.

Flores didn't disappoint. He decides to confront two murderer suspects on his own. Finds Teresa in their room, another murder suspect. But that doesn't faze him. He can do it! Capture three murder suspects, all on his own! Oh, well.

Thanks very much, Lucio, for your great comments. Yes, I too was astonished that Marietta Lancaster said she'd spill all on the NEXT program. Jeez, she's been investigating Epifanio for months and yet she seems clueless about how much danger her statement puts her in. Even my beanie is complaining.

And thanks, too, for mentioning Sofia and the witch. That scene between them was heartbreaking. Not only does Morgana tell Sofia about Teresa's killing Teo, she also accuses her of not even knowing her mother's name--or hers. And perhaps most upsetting of all, when Sofia tries again to scare Morgana by claiming her dead father is in the room, Morgana laughs in her face and says she's not believing any of Sofia's hallucinations any longer. So Sofia is now pretty much powerless. Indeed, Morgana chokes her and says she'd love to kill her, but she won't since her employer doesn't want her to. (Yet.)

Yes, the slight nod that Teresa gives Paloma may be enough for Paloma to cling to. I was glad, though, that Teresa also told her that she not only understood Paloma's feelings for her father but also respected them.

I'm not sure why you suggest that Teresa may be technically the girls' stepmother. IIRC, Teresa was never married to Teo. It's true that her daughter is their step-sister, but I don't think that makes Teresa their step-mother. Am I wrong?

I was hoping that the Strega Morgana choked Sofía hard enough to leave bruises that she could then show to Batman and maybe get her somewhere better.

Teresa had good info for the sisters: their life as they know it is over.

It looks like Cayetana is going to have a big surprise.

Juanita, I, too, was wondering about Marietta Lancaster’s carefree attitude about spilling the beans on Epifanio.

ah, that was such a wonderful in depth recap Juanita!

I'm kinda liking the new Oleg, he didn't like calling it Russian roulette, makes russians seem suicidal, he calls it the wheel of fortune, I'm surprised he took the gun afterward, he could have left it to appear a suicide, don't know why no one ever peeks at the front of the cylinder to see where the bullet is.

that was quite a dramatic escape which seals the girls fate, seems like they could have used Francesco's lawyers to get them off, Lupo calls someone to pick up the car, paint it and change the plates.

Rocio lunging at Francesca and knocking her down the stairs, yikes!

Paloma scares me, she seems like the one that will always be causing problems.

Rocio has seen Francesco before, must have been when he was dealing with granny, will she make a play for him.

hmm, Russian taste in clothes, waiting to see picks for Rocio.

Oleg has conditions, no one comes or goes without his permission.

loved the scene where he is glaring at Francesco from inside the car, and raises the tinted window.

Thanks Juanita for the scene between Genoveva (Veva, Bebita) and Marietta because my tv was fritzing, but I kind of got that that Marietta's announcement totally boogered Genoveva's planned interview of Epi, and I think I heard her father was governor of Sinaloa, yep, she needs one of those long white walking canes when it comes to Epi.

well, the cat was outed as he finished off the sardines but escapes a trip home as Morgana eyes the reward.

loved the gypsy torches, there must be a Frankenstein store in town, no escaping this mob.

Jarifa, I too was hoping that Morgana would go too far with Sofia, or at least that Batman would come by and catch her in the act. That woman has GOT to go! And belated thanks for pointing out that the sardines were for the cat. I hadn't realized that until you said it, after which a lot made more sense.

deb, you were in top form today! I especially loved "there must be a Frankenstein store in town."

And like you, I'm finding that the new Oleg is growing on me. I think it was only in last night's episode that I came to think so.

The plot keeps developing more twists. I'm eager to see what's with Rocio's finding Francesco's face familiar. Other parts of him seem to interest her as well.

Monday's episode should be interesting.

I never tire of seeing Flores foiled again.

One thing I don't think anyone mentioned: Teresa tells Paloma not to be ashamed of having been raped by Juan; the same thing happened to her many years ago, perpetrated by one Gato Fierros. I thought this won Paloma over quite a bit.

Yep, La Strega needs to go and fast. I gotta say the actor is doing a great job of being despicable. I also thought Batman would come back and stop her hurting Sofía.

And, deb, terrific line about Frankenstein. Flaming torches, check. Rustic looking villagers/gypsies, check. I can't even begin to imagine how this scene is going to go. They won't find Rocío or Paloma, but they'd be in a world of hurt if they harm Cayetana.

Belated thanks, novelera, for your comments. I'm very glad you mentioned Teresa's urging Paloma not to be ashamed about what Juan did to her, and her telling Paloma about her own rape experience. I think you're right about Paloma's being a bit more receptive to Teresa after this.
