OT-ANNOUNCEMENT

The "Coming Soon to a Screen Near You" page has been updated to include "Amor Eterno" which will begin on July 8th at 7pm(E) on Univision. It's a Turkish drama/series... If you want to read more about it, follow the link:

http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2019/04/coming-to-screen-near-you-april-7-2109.html

The "2019 Recapper Gallery" has also been updated to include Diana and JudyB!

OT-MIRADA
Gee, RGV, the beginning of Amor Eterno sounds like a mix of Susu pimping out Vanessa. In this one, it isn't Monster Half-Face that saves Marina. It'll be an interesting change from the Mexican Playbook of Telenovelas to one with an international flavor. I wonder if they use the same Cliché Writing Handbook.

Hello, just here to interrupt that Edith Gontales died at 54 after a long battle with cancer.RIP Edith!

CountxAlacran - Thank you for alerting us to this sad news. I has no idea she has been ill. Such a big loss to the telenovela community. QEPD

RgvChick - will this be the first time Univision puts a Turkish drama in during prime time?

Edith Gonzales*

OT-Rest in Peace, Edith, I hardly knew ya.

Doris: You may be correct. Telemundo has done them in past years, with La Sultana being the most recent one.

Doris...Nopis, I watched Fatih Harbiye a while back on UniMas. It was pretty good. They were speaking Turk, but with Spanish dubbed in. An interesting change from the Latin culture in the hundreds of TNs we normally see. Boy those Turkish girls are skin-neee compared to the TeleNovela Goddesses from Miami and CDMX.

MIRADA

Oh, please! Margarito could not possibly be that stupid. This shows just how much I like this TN, that I didn't immediately turn off the TV and look for something else to occupy my time. It would have been a fine bit for the Three Stooges, or for a cartoon (much like those where some character goes out on a tree limb to cut it down; y'all know which side of the cut he's sitting on :-)

Oh, yesterday I opined that Doc Bazán's hair was OK, but that he might want to "change the oil" a little more often. My mistake, I was thinking of Lino, who is another nice guy like Doc Bazán. There are a few docs in this TN, but Bazán is the only one I think is OK. A little over the top maybe, as in "Hey, hot little blind girl, come to my house and I'll take care of you and change your bandages for you."

More later after I read the recap and marvel over how much I missed in today's show.

Hi, Kirby!

andy

MIRADA

Anita, wanted to wish you Safe Travels on your trip to Scotland. I promise to not make any kilt jokes.

Sad news about Edith Gonzales. She was marvelous in Doña Barbara,

Andy you're right, Lino has a lot of motor oil on his hair as well, but it doesn't drip down into his eyes the way that Doc Bazán's random locks do.

MIRADA #59 VANESSA TELLS THE TRUTH, NOBODY ELSE DOES

Part 1

One thing you can count on in telenovelas is that there will be a lot of deception, lying to others, lying to oneself and just general moral murkiness. There was a lot of that happening today. Still, one bright moment-- No Name Baby, who exists on nothing but air, made a brief appearance. And appears to be thriving in spite of never being fed. It's like a miracle at Lourdes.

But back to the nitty gritty and daily humdrum. Marina is addressing the fluid amoeba of Valle de Bravo folks and telling them she's not worried at all about Baby. He'll be fine with them while she's recuperating at Doc Bazán's home. {Baby, what baby?] Damiana makes a quick request for the arc angels help in the matter and the amoeba oozes happily out of the clinic. Doc Mask, still wearing the red shoes and lurking in the doorway sees them leave. But remains unaware that Marina has been spirited out the back door.

Romance is a-foot at the hospital nearby. Beto has sent a big bouquet of flowers to Lucrecia to thank her for being such a fun colleague. Erick's giving him a hard time about being on the prowl, but Beto is firm that he's just being polite. He's got a full-time job digging Marina out of his heart. He's in no mood for a serious relationship with anyone else. Doubt that Lucrecia will see it that way.

Policeman arrives at Doc Mask's office (wow! quick followup) and wants to see the good doc. Renata puts him off with a fib about the doc checking on a patient and tells him to come back in a couple of hours. Then phones Doc Red Shoes, whose cell battery has not run down during his long stay in town. As if! He hustles back to town so he can tell some even larger fibs to the investigator.

Meanwhile Marina is in Doc Bazan's swank digs, complete with a private nurse. Too soon to take off the bandages but she'll be well attended while she's there. Only problem...Doc has to cancel his dinner with Mom. Mom is not happy. Soooo, you've got that "muchachita" in your home, the one you rushed off to see last night? Doc fibs that it's just because he's trying to reduce her hospital costs. And you're paying for the private nurse out of your own pocket! snaps Mom. Clearly another storm is brewing on this front.

And speaking of storms, Hurricane Chucha has just blown into Vanessa's room. She screeches that Vane looks like a "piltrafa" [complete wreck] and that she'd better put herself together because they have a hot date with Big Ed. Vane burrows down a little deeper in the pillows but you know Chucha is going to get her way. She always does.

More fibs. This time from Marina. When she calls Prudencia to tell her where she's staying, she says nothing about the attempted kidnapping or strangulation. Staying in her surgeon's personal home is just a normal cost-saving device. And how is she?...oh, a little headache, nothing more.

A storm brewing here and a storm brewing at the ranch. Zack is setting up Margarito for an accident, sending him off with Zack's henchie Delfino, to repair a rickety wood fence. There's a lot of grousing about how the fence is bad because Zack bought second rate wood, but the upshot is that Margarito falls, rolls down an embankment and injures his back and hip. Lots of groaning and gasping and sending Delfino for help.

But the true highlight reel of this section is when Mom Bazán bursts into Marina's room and says WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SON'S HOUSE?!

We should end the episode right there...it would be a great cliffhanger. But the story goes on after the ads.

MIRADA #59 VANESSA TELLS THE TRUTH, NOBODY ELSE DOES

Part 2

Dear sweet Marina is reaching out her hand to DoctorMom but nothin' doin'. Mom flounces out to read her son the riot act. No way should a single guy have a young patient staying in his house. He bristles and tells her to butt out. He's no longer a teenager who has to listen to scoldings. (This is going to be an interesting dynamic. She's not just a little sweetie mom...there are some thorns in those roses!)

Let's stay with this a moment. The good doc goes back to apologize for Mamita's behavior. Marina understands but slips in a new request. Her dear friend Toribio, who has had nightmares ever since he got a bullet in his brain, needs a doctor. Could Doc Bazán treat him? Well, it's not his specialty, but he has a neurologist friend and he'll see what he can do. Just like that--problem solved. Or about to be. Another miracle at Lourdes perhaps?

Meanwhile lots more fibs going on. Well outright lies if you must. Doc Mask gets back, meets the inspector and lays out a big tale of how he helped and mentored this young woman who repays him by accusing him of rape and attempted kidnapping. Can you believe it? Inspector looks dubious and ends the visit by telling Doc Mask to leave the young woman alone. Time to cry on Renata's weary shoulder. Isauro blubbers away about how he's the only one who truly loves Marina and baby. Not like that swine Alberto who abandoned her. So how can she reject me? HOW?! Renata looks like she needs an antacid. Or something stronger.

MIRADA #59 VANESSA TELLS THE TRUTH, NOBODY ELSE DOES

Part 3

Wow..back from the ads to a vision of an impatient Big Ed in polyester and humongous gold chains. Toribio isn't the only one who's going to have nightmares tonight. There's a little salivating over Vanessa's beauty (she appears to be a very well-dressed,mute, lovely catatonic--Ed's ideal gal); the waiter brings champagne, Ed grabs the bottle, fills up the glasses to the brim and Vane drains hers right off the bat. Okay. First date going well so far.

But how about those former dates? You know, the impromptu hot kisses with Lino, at the ranch, at the fountain, in the countryside. Those dates that are still tormenting Lino even as Anita tries to soften his heart a little. Noble girl that she is, she's sharing that Vanessa truly seemed heartbroken when told Lino had left no forwarding address. Lino remains staunch. I gave my heart and soul to that "love" and it didn't work. Sometimes Love is not enough.

(See what I mean about self-deception? You know...you just know...that Lino will fall back into Vane's arms eventually. Heck, that's why we watch these stories. And for the Spanish of course)

The little vecindad episode ends with an odd scene. Damiana is tending some plants for medicinal purposes and Doña Chole keeps asking her if she's practicing "brujeria" [witchcraft. She actually asks a couple of times and Damiana gets rather pissy that she's a healer, not a bruja. Now here's my take on it. Doña Chole gets all misty-eyed anytime Baldomero comes within range. I'm thinking she's looking for a love potion. Anybody want to join me in frivolous speculation?

And more ads arrive.

MIRADA #59 VANESSA TELLS THE TRUTH, NOBODY ELSE DOES

Part 4

Useless Yola is back in Valle de Bravo and fibbing to Erasmo that she's still looking for books in Mexico City (never mind about what) and will have to return on a regular basis. But she has to hurry back to the ranch when she learns Dad Margarito has been injured. He's in great pain but has already been released from the hospital. Can't decide if Zack wanted him injured or actually hoped to kill the guy. Time will tell.

Doc Bazán has given Damiana the phone number of the neurologist and she's going to call him on Toribio's behalf. Nameless Baby makes brief appearance as Mom Dam hauls him out of the wee nest. Nice head of hair. Doesn't make a peep. Reminds me of catatonic Vanessa. Lovely but mute.

More fun stuff. Cranky Doc Mask calls the clinic to see how Marina is doing. Nurse won't tell him. He's furious. As always. Finally learns that she been discharged. REALLY MAD NOW! AND FRUSTRATED.

How about Lino? Well, he's been following up on the job leads Anita found for him. Seems don Luis is looking for a chauffeur for his business. Should he apply? Afraid that don Luis will blow him off again but he's going to give it a shot. Hmmm...perhaps a way to reconnect with Vanessa?

And our little Vanny? Well, she's roused from her stupor enough to give Big Ed the 411. When he asks if she's always so quiet (Mom has vamoosed by the way) she snaps that the only reason she's here is that her mama made her come.

Cara de impactada de Big Ed. And a big cheer for Vanessa. Perfect example of transparency. Efficiently expressed. No beating around the bush.

This section ends with Beto and Lucrecia trailing around a photo exposition that he pretends is fascinating while she pretends she's just wanting to be good buddies, sharing cultural events together. Y'all need to take a lesson from Vanessa.

JudyB--You just kilt me with your recap.

MIRADA #59 VANESSA TELLS THE TRUTH, NOBODY ELSE DOES

Part 5

In the final section we flip back and forth between Doc B/Marina and Beto/Lucrecia--our ill-assorted couples.

Doc B is telling Marina she can go anywhere in the house. Inés the nurse is there to help 24/7 I guess. Marina still wants to know when she can open her eyes and Doc decides that maybe after she takes a drink of water, it might be alright to try. (Sure hope this is Lourdes water). But let's hold off on that and get Beto and Lucrecia out of the way.

He's telling her he's not the right guy for her. Still dealing with an unhealed romantic hurt that HE DOES NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT. She goes all therapeutic on him and says he needs to work through it. Maybe not talk to her, since ethically that would be murky. But talk to someone. But hey!, she's not looking for a partner anyway, so no problemo. It's just that she knows nobody else in Mexico. That's why she's hanging around Beto. Big fib we know but he's all apologetic and "I'm sorry I misinterpreted etc."

So now, what's going on with Marina's fluttery eyelids and Doc B's tender ministrations? It gets a wee bit Helen Keller. He's having her touch things (like the glass of water, and later, a sculpture of a wing) and then look at them to make the association.

Frankly it looks like she can't see bupkis, just smeary, bubbly shapes. But Doc has an explanation for that. The brain doesn't know what it's processing.

It sure doesn't! Yikes.

I hope the eventual outcome of the surgery is better than what we saw today. Otherwise, Marina will have no idea what her No Name No Eat Baby looks like. Much less the condition of Beto's pores.

But fear not dear Patio. Friday is just around the corner. We'll find out more then.

Hah Anita! Okay, you win! You got in the first kilt joke. And before the recap was even finished. You rule lady! Have a blast in Scotland.

MIRADA

Judy, Thank you for another wonderful recap. “Heck, that's why we watch these stories. And for the Spanish of course” Yes, it’s always about the Spanish. ;-)

ANITA - Ooooooh, Scotland. I love Scotland. Have a wonderful trip!!!

ANDY BANDA – I’m with you about Margo; I saw that one coming. How stupid could he be??? This is his own fault.

And, yeah, Doc Bazan’s hair isn’t all that bad. I just wish he would lose the beard.
Speaking of Doc Bazinga, his home is decorated very “on trend” with all the gray. My eye kept going to the tromp l’oeil “panels” under the chair rail in the room where Marina is parked. Very nice touch.

So, Big Ed wants to hob nob with the Upper Crust but, dude, you’ve got to DRESS THE PART or they won’t give you a second look or the time of day. Lose the bad necklaces and shirts, like, yesterday. Big Ed reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield’s character in Caddyshack. Yeesh.....

MIRADA

JudyB, thanks for yet another Snarktastic recap!

Loved the way Vanesa bluntly told Mr. Big Chains that she was not there if her own accord. He’ll probably see it as a challenge and put that pedal to the medal to carry her off into the wild blue yonder.

Doc Grease’s mom seems like she is going to be a force to be reckoned with. Could she be the reason why the doc is divorced?

More laters...I’m sitting at the vet’s with a sick bow wow. My checkbook will be hurtin’ ACK!!

MIRADA

JudyB — Stellar recap!

Vanessa reminded me of Nikki in Amores Verdaderos with the whole “captas” bit. Chucha is definitely a cougar but it seems like she just warmed Edson up. Vanessa is obviously uninterested. Hopefully nothing comes of that.

Alberto, however, seems to slowly falling for Lucrecia’s charm. He’s not all the way in yet but I doubt he will run while he still has time.

I’m guessing DocB is a momma’s boy/only son. Will DocMom stand in the way of DocB and Marina potentially pursuing a relationship?

Does MX have a policy of registering a newborn child (with a name) like the US does? So that the baby has a birth certificate etc.

MIRADA--
JudyB--I'm sorry I interrupted the smoothie (oops, well some of them are made with ice cream) flow of your recap. It sounded as if it was over. I haven't watched it yet, so again, forgive me. At least you didn't get your kilt in a twist.

MIRADA--
TF--we've been wondering about that name registration thing. Are the writers aware that she was whisked out of the hospital in no time--as in no time to get the paperwork done? And no follow-up? Remember Marina and Beto were born at home and Marina had trouble getting her birth certificate for an episode or two. MAYBE the writers have something in mind--oh, forgot to register baby? The time comes around and No-Name non-baby needs one. Maybe it will happen after Marina and Beto are back together and they name him Luis Alberto Three Stick.

MIRADA

Judy, just grand, great fun.

"It's like a miracle at Lourdes" was my favoite but "He's got a full-time job digging Marina out of his heart", "swank digs" and "lovely catatonic" were close runner ups.

Anita, Scotland!! Oh my. Have a wonderful trip!

Rgv Chick, I hope your fur dog is OK - please let us know. And I feel your pocketbook pain. Their meds and visits are often much more than ours. But worth every single penny.

Diana

MIRADA

"At least you didn't get your kilt in a twist". I just laughed out loud Anita :)

Diana

MIRADA OT--Doris, thank you, this is my first extended trip, mainly to Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Borders region (not the Highlands--I'll take you and JudyB with me when we want to see Outlander guys in respectable plaids.)

What made me want to go back is I met some very nice people when we visited the Shetlands, the Orkneys and Edinburgh, each for part of a day.

MIRADA -OT

ANITA
- I read the book OUTLANDER before our first trip there in 2001. So, I had to visit the Battle of Culloden site while we were in Nairn. It is just a big field now, and a nice visitor info center. If I had not read Ourlander, this historic place would have been unknown and bypassed. (No Jamie sightings). And just down the road is the Clava Cairns, so we had to stop there. And a few km down the road from Clava Cairns is Cawdor Castle which was definitely worth the visit.

RIP Edith Gonzalez :(

I'm sorry to hear about this.

I'm just devastated to hear about this. She was great in "DB".

Anita — OMG I didn’t think of that but if nothing is done that could possibly give Doc Two Face the chance to make sure HIS name is listed as the father. And if a paternity test is done there’s another telenovela cliché of manipulating the test if the child is truly Beto’s.

MIRADA - OT
Doris--You are way ahead of me. I am making a day trip down to Hadrian's Wall. It's been on my bucket list since I read Hadrian's memoirs in college!

MIRADA -OT

Anita - Oh, that is wonderful! Hadrian's Wall is on my wish list. It was always too far out of the way from our itineraries on both trips. If I ever get back there, I hope to see it!

MIRADA

Thank you for another great recap, JudyB! ITA that a reason we watch these TNs is "...for the Spanish of course"

I'm sure we're all in agreement about that     :-)

I have no theory at this time as to what's up with doña Chole and brujeria. The TN sure made it seem important, but we'll see. But I wonder what would happen if she did want a love potion from Damiana to use on Baldomero. He is supposed to be Damiana's main squeeze now, though I don't see a whole lot of squeezing going on. And Margarito might need a little nursing about now.

I don't know that I like the idea of Lino going to work for Don Louse again. I will admit that Don Louse is a lot more human these days, and even funny at times, but I still think he's a [censored]. He and Beto both need to work on getting a lot of good karma before I'll be OK with them.

andy

JudyB you deserve a standing ovation.
You make these serious people so funny

Doc B is a big boy. He don't need moma's ok to have anyone at his house.

Yaaah she can see. It's a miracle. The tea did it. Lol.

Ok more tomorrow. Thank you Ms Chick!
You're an amazing story teller.

MIRADA
Too much fun, Judy B. Learning Spanish is supposed to be work!
Telenovela first today! A doc that couldn’t cover all necessary specialties! The same doc who wore his mask under his nose in operating room. Go figure
Is survival queen Su at least going to google Big Ed (good one Judy B) to check on his claims. Maybe she will end up with him and check him out too late
I don’t see how injury to Magro is Zac’s fault. He didn’t make him climb on an obviously unstable, poorly constructed fence held together with wire
Really don’t like Rapunzel. Between Doc and her my FF gets a workout
Thanks again Judy B
And thanks Count for dropping in to let us know the sad news

Wow..once again the crazy Patio was jumping and jiving last evening. Seems like it's always party time here. Sure works for me.

Rgv Chick...Love your name for Doc B...Doc Grease. Yes, we definitely have to have a long talk with him about personal grooming. So sorry to hear that your doggie is ill. As you know, our hearts just break whenever something goes wrong with our pets. Keeping my fingers crossed for you and pup.

Doris..."on trend". Did not know that term but have been seeing gray all over the place at the decor shows. I'm not "on trend" at all at home. In fact I still wish I had my avocado washer and dryer, but alas they died. Ditto for the Harvest Gold fridge.

Diana...I've had Lourdes on my mind lately. At the tradtional service that I attend, most of the folks going up for communion have stooped shoulders, rounded spines, canes etc. or are holding on to the edge of the rail for support as they walk up. And I suspect I'm limping a little myself! Just makes me think of the road to Lourdes and am trying to keep my sense of humor.

TF...Loved your observation that Susana the Cougar just warmed Big Ed up...and now he's ready for Ms. Vanessa herself. Doubt it will work out that way but I like thinking of Chucha as "the opening act". Too funny.

Andy...Yes, indeed, the relationship of Damiana and Baldomero seems platonic in the extreme. But how could it be otherwise? There are always other people around. No squeezing, no nothing. I think Doña Chole and her toolbelt might have a shot there.

Nina, Nina...Aren't you sweet! "Ed is a nice guy looking for love in all the wrong places". Well, could be. Have to admit that I should have given Ed credit for honesty as well. He's crude. But he's showing all his cards. No hidden agenda there.

Mely...The whole issue with surgical or intensive care face masks is a hoot. They wear them but then they lower them at critical moments. Nice for us if we're lip reading but pretty darn funny. And I think all on the Patio agree that we don't like Lucrecia/Rapunzel at all. Just totally annoying for some reason. In addition to sticking to Beto like some burr on his sock.

Steve...very sad about Edith Gonzales. In addition to being a terrific actress, she was just a beautiful, brave lady and a delight to behold.

MIRADA - OT - JudyB

"In fact I still wish I had my avocado washer and dryer, but alas they died. Ditto for the Harvest Gold fridge."
Oops, Judy, your 1970s are showing. LOL We had a harvest gold washer & dryer, first major appliances we bought when renting an apt. that had the hookups and no community laundry room. By the time we bought our first house and had to buy other appliances, we chose white. It is a timeless color. Goes with everything. The LBD of appliances.

MIRADA OT

Alas, I have fallen into the pit of stainless steel appliances. They always look streaked. Almost as bad a choice as the white shag rug, decades ago, that my kids would spill Dairy Queen drinks on. My life has been a series of Decorator Tragedies!

MIRADA

Wow this patio is on fire...what great comments!

OT- Diana and JudyB, thank you for your kind words. My doggy is doing well and is on antibiotics for a stomach infection which I am told gets more frequent as dogs age :-( My pocketbook took a good hit too OUCH!!! :-(

FLOR (highlights)
Ep 43: Part 1 Flor Finally Says “NO!”

Teo cuddles with Flor as he suggests that she stop taking her contraceptives…it would be nice to have a baby of their own. Flor half-heartedly smiles and agrees. Later, as Teo sleeps, Flor thinks about how happy she was when she thought she and Val were having a baby.

Aure goes to see Marga since he is worried about her and wonders what is bothering her. Marga replies with not much—just that my children are upset with me, I’m the outcast of the town and I destroyed a painting that is priceless and I don’t know how I am going to pay for it.

Next Morning—

Teo brings Flor downstairs and shows her a budget sheet showing all the costs and profits for the dance academy which clearly show that the dance academy is not profitable. As Flor stands there with her arms crossed (in other words, back off, buddy!), he goes on an on about how she spends so much time at the academy and how it would be more beneficial to convert the dance academy into something more profitable. Flor could spend her time doing other things that she should be enjoying—like raising a family. Flor only nods with a “You’re kidding me, right?” look as he speaks.

Aure voices his concern about his mother to Rose who brushes him off because she has her own problems and their mother needs to assume responsibility for her actions.

Rose goes to complain to Tere that Flor stole her destiny, but she is going to show everyone that love is not the only means to happiness.

Flor goes to see Mariana and confides that she feels guilty about not being honest with Teo. After Mariana advises her to be totally honest with Teo, Flor isn’t sure because what Teo wants makes a lot of sense. Meanwhile, Teo tells Mica that his finance analysis had good results…Flor said “yes” to what he proposed…well sort of “yes”…well he had a good feeling that she agreed with him. Mica warns him that it doesn’t sound like Flor was in agreement at all.

Teo meets with an architect. He wants to do some major remodeling of his house; so he draws a rough sketch of what he wants. He has a large room which is currently being used as a dance academy. He wants the architect to plan for converting it into 2 medical offices.

Oscar calls Teo , but gets his voicemail. Oscar recalls how Elpi advised him that lies weigh much more on the soul that telling the truth.

FLOR (highlights)
Ep 43: Part 2 Flor Finally Says “NO!”

Next Day—

Teo brings the architect, Salas, to meet Flor. When Teo tells her that the architect has drawn up some quick blueprints to convert her dance academy into 2 medical offices. Flor is floored for the third time so she asks to talk to Teo privately (third time he’s out?? cuz it’s certainly not a charm!). She makes it clear that she does not want to have a baby right now; and she does not want to give up her dance academy which she has worked so hard to build up. Teo doesn’t know what to say; so Flor blames herself for not being honest with him from the start. After Teo gets upset and reminds Flor that she said she wanted to be a mother, Flor agrees but insists that she wants to do other things before having a baby…the baby will have to wait. When she mentions that good things are happening for the dance academy and that she will be going to the city for a couple of days. Teo really loses it and questions if they are truly a married couple because Flor is doing things without telling him (Hell-o-o! didn’t you just bring an architect with blueprints??).

Jovita is talking to a reporter at the church who is interviewing her about the painting that was destroyed. He asks her to give the name of the person who did such a ghastly thing; so she very smugly gives him Marga’s name. Later, as she finishes her interview with the reporter. Marga comes to confront Jovita because she saw the live interview on the TV. After they bark at each other for awhile, Marga grabs Jovita by the hair, but Elpi intervenes and takes Marga into the church.

After the architect leaves, Flor points out to Teo that she isn’t used to having decisions made for her—he paid off her debt when she wanted to do that on her own; he redecorated the house including a nursery for a baby that doesn’t exist, now he is making plans to convert her dance academy into medical offices. Teo repeatedly says, “Well forgive me!” and heatedly argues that he is trying to help her and she is being very selfish. He is furious because She is forgetting about the future that they should be building together…her dream is more important.

Oscar meets Teo outside and has something to tell him. After seeing that he is upset, Teo admits that he is angry.

Flor dances alone at her studio remembering moments with Val when they first came back to town and repaired Casa Rosa. She ends up on the floor crying and exhausted…for the first time in a long time, she misses Val and the freedom he taught her to fight for…she softly says his name.

The Next Day—

Flor wakes up hearing her name being called out. She goes to the bathroom and calls out for Teo but gets no response. When she turns around, she sees Val on top of the chest and screams…she thinks she is dreaming so Val gets close to her and as she reaches out, she can touch him…SCREEAAMM! She then jumps into bed and pulls the covers over her head and counts to 3 but when she opens her eyes, Val is right over her…SCREEAAMM! Once she calms down, Val tells her that she is talking to a ghost, he is there to help her…he wants her to love him. Flor tells him to leave, but Valentin argues that she needs him.

FLOR (highlights)
Ep 43: Part 3 Flor Finally Says “NO!”

Oscar advises Teo that he can be leaving his house every time he has an argument with Flor. Teo doesn’t know what to do…Flor doesn’t want to satisfy his need to be a father; and Flor is very angry with him (and she should be!). After Oscar advises him to start by telling Flor that he loves her, Teo agrees and heads back home.

At breakfast, Aure questions Xochitl about how things are going with her—her friends, school. After he explains that he is concerned because her bed was wet this morning, Xochitl gets upset and tells him to not be a busy body.

Sami returns and finds Octi going through her things. After she asks for Aure, Octi tells her that Aure is not there…and she should sit down because she does not look well. When Sami accuses him of stealing from her, Octi explains that Teo paid off Flor’s debt and he is going on a trip.

Val wonders if Flor is happy because when they were together she always had a big smile, but Flor reminds him that their happiness was based on lies. She chides him for making her trust him and won’t forgive him for everything he did. She regrets having given him her heart. After Flor tells him everything she had to do to try to pay off his debt, Val mentions that she was the one who called him. Flor quickly denies it; but Val explains that she called him with her heart. When he asks her to swear to him that she didn’t miss him, Flor can’t; so Val gets closer and kisses her passionately. As they kiss, Teo arrives and sees Flor with her arms up and swaying her head. After she slaps the air, Teo asks her what she is doing. Flor is flabbergasted as she looks from Teo to Val.

FLOR

First Rgv Chick, I am glad your fur child is on the mend. I suspect your purse will take longer to heal :)

A lovely spun yarn.

"(third time he’s out?? cuz it’s certainly not a charm!)" and "(Hell-o-o! didn’t you just bring an architect with blueprints??)" made me smile in delight.

“Later, as Teo sleeps, Flor thinks about how happy she was when she thought she and Val were having a baby”. Our thoughts come to us mostly unbidden, don’t they? Yet, it would seem strange if she weren’t thinking about Val. That wound has not healed.

I’m seeing a not so subtle shift in Teo’s character. I don’t care if Flor’s business is profitable or not. It’s HER business. “Flor only nods with a “You’re kidding me, right?” look as he speaks”. I don’t think I would have been quite so calm.

And then (I echo as I shake my head indignently):”He has a large room which is currently being used as a dance academy. He wants the architect to plan for converting it into 2 medical offices”. Dude, your Plan A has been denied by the Zoning Board. You can’t get to Plan B!

“Mica warns him that it doesn’t sound like Flor was in agreement at all”. Yes, but he wasn’t listening to ANY conversation, was he? Ack.

“When he asks her to swear to him that she didn’t miss him, Flor can’t; so Val gets closer and kisses her passionately”. Despite how eloquently this was written, I would loved to have seen this!!

So is it live or is it Memorex?

Rgv Chick, thank you for the fun and fabulous recap...it was great!

Diana

MIRADA

I won't get to see this until tomorrow. About half the local airing was preempted by an "alerta local" covering the guilty verdict in the trial resulting from a brutal, public murder about a year ago and caught on camera. A mistaken gang killing, I believe. I don't generally follow news of this sort, I take refuge in TNs.

MIRADA #60 COMING TOGETHER, BREAKING APART

Part 1

You know, a certain amount of "suspension of disbelief" is necessary to enjoy these stories, but oh my word! they've gone too far for this gal. I'm saying WTF almost every other scene. But I'll try and calm down and give you a reasonable resumé of what went on today.

Yes, take a deep breath now and start typing...you can do this Judy!

Brief scene with Doc BadHair showing Marina a mirror. She can see her face in a watery, foggy sort of way and slowly touches her cheeks, nose, hair etc. to make a connection her brain can understand.

Then we flip to Big Ed, still negotiating romance and marriage with a tough-minded Vanessa. He gets that she's renounced an engagement with the scion of one of the richest, most distinguished families in Mexico. But hey, he's got something to offer as well. Oodles and oodles on money, honey. [Con varo anda el carro] Such a great dicho that he says it twice in the course of the conversation. Vane makes it clear that there will be no physical contact until she "falls in love with him". He says okay but let's get our motors warmed up (evidently he's a fan of the wit and wisdom of trucking lingo) Little rascal tries to slip a hand around Vane's waist as they leave the restaurant. She bats if off. This could get interesting.

Back to our other couple. Marina is now looking at DocB and asking if he's guapo. He modestly replies that good looks are very subjective, but we have some more touchy feely action--this time on HIS face. It's all very intimate and sweet. She likes his voice and feels very secure with him. He's all happy because restoring her sight is the greatest accomplishment of his career. Now she needs to train her brain and sight together with her loved ones. But only one at a time. Starting tomorrow.

We leave this sweet scene to ponder Doc Gruesome, flipping Marina's cane back and forth, wondering where she is. And Vane is in the bathroom, hyperventilating and weeping, calling Lino and begging him to answer. Hardhearted Lino listens, thinks, and then eliminates Vane as a contact on his phone. HARSH! Elsewhere, eye-on-the-ball Susana is having her bracelet appraised at the jewelers. Love the focus of this gal. If she'd gone into business instead of trying to sell her daughter, I think she would have been a CEO by now.

Lino, in addition to wiping Vane out of his life, is not about to even consider a job with don Luis' firm in town. Too big a chance of seeing his ex-love. So Anita comes up with another proposition. She's a graphic designer, she can make a video of him singing with his guitar, pretty it up with a background shot of the city skyscrapers, edit out the crappy steps he's sitting on and upload it to youtube. And voilá, a Star is Born! Maybe. Lino observes that Anita, in addition to being pretty is super-smart. If she weren't already hopelessly smitten, she is now. Totally.

MIRADA #60 COMING TOGETHER, BREAKING APART

Part 2

Beto's at his mentor's office, mooning around... remembering visiting Marina in the clinic. Erick bursts in (does this guy ever work?) and wants to know where Beto was in the morning. A little chat about the gallery visit and telling Lucrecia he's not the right guy for her. Not ready to fall in love again. Why not? queries Erick. I fall in love 2 or 3 times a week!

Alright...here it comes. This is the first scene that JUST DROVE ME NUTS. Marina is making plans for the first visit of a loved one. No, she doesn't want to see her baby. You know, the one she just had..the one she is nursing. Nope, let's wait on that. Besides, Doc Bazan doesn't know I have a son.

Crimenetly! How does a surgeon not know you just had a baby. Or the nurse! There's an aftermath for one thing. And if you're nursing...Oh well, I'll just shut up. But honestly, I'm frothing at the mouth. Sorry.

Back to the story. She wants Damiana to come. Fine. Whatever.

At the ranch, Margarito is limping around on crutches. Turns out he didn't break anything...just a bad sprain [esguince]. Nevertheless Zack is trying to work things so don Luis fires him. Hey, these old people develop one ache after another (tell me about it) Why don't you give him his walking papers and a nice payout. After all, the hospital had to do certain tests, and you're expected to pay for them. Don Luis blows him off, tells him to pay the bills and we'll talk later.

Is Don Luis a good guy? Or is he just looking forward to the rendezvous he's arranged with Susana at a new location. Well, I imagine it's a little bit of both, with a whole lot being the latter.

Sure enough, the next scene is at the "nidito de amor"[love nest] that Luis has picked out. Susana hates it but pretends she doesn't. Then Luis grabs her and she hates it but pretends she doesn't.

So glad to know that she's not enjoying one little minute of these strenuous romps with our big guy.

Vane has escaped the truck drivin' clutches of Big Ed and is back home being interrogated by Angustias and Prudencia. They can't quite grasp why she's now dating this trashy new guy from the club. Wasn't she in love with someone else? Susana bursts in and they work out that Susana also knew about the other love. Why didn't she say something? Didn't want you to think badly of my Vane, coos Susana.

Prudencia has that look on her face. You know...the one she had when she found Luis and Chucha behind locked doors. She's copping to the subterfuges but hasn't decided to blow the whistle yet. Biding her time.

MIRADA #60 COMING TOGETHER, BREAKING APART

Part 3

Ugh, DocHorrible is back skulking around the clinic and as soon as the desk nurse leaves her post, he looks at the files, checks out the computer, finds out Marina is Doc B's patient; what He looks like and obtains his home address. Just like that! Ridiculous-- but for some reason this bothers me less than the new mother, nursing baby business.

Here we go, speaking of moms and their kids...another violent scene with Susana and Vanessa. Vane wants to know why Mom doesn't marry the disgusting trucking driving Big Ed if he's such a good catch. And gets roundly slapped for her impertinence. Gotta respect your mama. First rule of telenovelas. Surprised Vane didn't know that.

And when Luis gets home and hears about Vane's new swain, he does indeed know the name. Edson Oivares...Why yes, one of the biggest names in the trucking business. Why?

Prudencia, still with that "I know something's up" look on her face, asks Luis how his business dinner was. "A pedir de boca" [just great!]he enthuses. Well, give Chucha credit, she must have played her part well. Earning that diamond bracelet the hard way.

And speaking of hard, how hard is it to spot a suspicious monster in a black hoodie and bright red shoes lurking around a gated community???!!!! Evidently DocMask remains invisible as he spots Damiana arriving in a taxi at Doc Bazan's place. Problem solved. He now knows where Marina is staying and won't lose track of her again. But he won't take unnecessary risks. Whatever that means.

MIRADA #60 COMING TOGETHER, BREAKING APART

Part 4

Damiana and Doc B are having a chat. He's lauding Marina's courage in having the surgery; she's thanking him for arranging Toribio's treatment and then.....

Here comes Marina. Eyes closed, being led by the nurse. What follows is supposed to be a very touching scene. In fact Doc B gets all choked up and Marina sheds some tears as well--which burn like crazy but no problem! The inflammation will go down. But I'll make it brief. Marina sees Mom's wrinkles [arrugas] for the first time and that's her favorite part...because those wrinkles are the result of all the years Mom and the arc angels put in caring for her. Lots of patting and touching and smiling and talking and it's just all too much. For me anyway.

But the scene switches to Vanessa packing up her bags. Why? Surely she's not going to move in with Ed? Anyway Angustias tries to stop her from leaving but Vane is adamant. After all, as Mom says, millionaires don't grow on trees [no se dan en maceta]and off she goes. Whence? We don't know. At least I don't

Anita and Lino are filming the video and Doc B receives a phone call that DocMask's alibi of being in Valle de Bravo the whole time has been confirmed by his assistant Ramona. No proof whatsoever that he assaulted and tried to kidnap Marina. And yes, the good Doc Isauro is still lurking outside the gated community, miraculously invisible to one and all.

I'm ready for some ads. How about you?

MIRADA

Judy, thank you for another great recap and idiom translations!
Yes, this one required our beanie hats. And lots of eye-rolling.

Snark aside, watching Marina learning how to “see” makes so much sense. Learning shapes, colors, distances and depth perception; things we sighted take for granted.

Lino should take the driving job at Don L’s, and then he could somehow, some way, por casualidad, run across Big Ed via his transportation biz and see him with Vanessa. Maybe even intervene with Big Ed roughing up Vane. Telenovela fireworks, no? Crockpot Theory™ #89. (LOL)

I’ve been wondering if Marina really is nursing that baby who never cries, eats, or has poopy diapers.
Otherwise, who has been running the pumped milk back and forth while she is in hiding from Doc Red Sneakers.

Speaking of red sneakers . . . the last time I saw a guy wearing red shoes was Long Duck Dong in Sixteen Candles. ‘nuff said …..

OT - MIRADA – Patio chatter

RgvChick - What a relief that your furbaby is better. We worry so much, and they cannot tell us where it hurts. Our dog is 10 1/2 years old and her age is taking its toll on her... and me.

Diana - It is so nice to see you checking in here, even though you are not watching Mirada with us.

JudyB - when we recently remodeled our kitchen, we went with stainless steel appliances, too. Our almost 20-year old refrigerator is SS. I got tired of the special cleaners, etc. and now swear by good old Barkeeper’s Friend powder. Enough people on the Gardenweb forums swore by it, so I gave it a try. BKF works way better than the fancy cleaners that leave an oily residue. And is cheaper, easier to find in stores. YMMV

MIRADA #60 COMING TOGETHER, BREAKING APART

Part 5

We're at the neighborhood market and Toribio is having his own little anxiety attack about brain surgery. He doesn't want anybody sticking nails in his head [coco] like Nico told him it would be. Baldy scolds him for being a "miedosote" [big scaredy-cat]. After all, if Marina is brave enough to have surgery on her eyes, Toribio ought to man up for his treatment.

Meanwhile Vane and her wee suitcase are at the hospital, and she's curled up with Beto talking about her arranged marriage with Big Ed. Beto's confused. As he so often is. Thought you were in love with Lino?! Oh yeah, but we're in different worlds. We want different things. I need to go out, socialize, have fun..you know. No, Beto really doesn't. And besides he's worried about her panic attacks. Some more cozy chit-chat and she advises him to get over Marina post haste [pasar la pagina].

And then...

Up creeps Rapunzel in her stiletto heels. Scopes out the scene. Quietly evaluates Vanessa. Who's evaluating right back. As any woman can tell you, there's an immediate check list when meeting a new gal. In which way is she better looking? Where do you have the advantage? Who has more cellulite? Who wins out in the cleavage department? Etc.

Lucrecia and Vane are drawing up their respective charts in that split second look, but we'll leave them to it and rejoin Susana and Big Ed.

Who are drawing up their own charts. Ed's showing he's no fool. He knows Susana is after his money but hey! I can be a generous son-in-law if you play your cards right. But now hear this--I'm in no mood to lollygag. I want to get married by the end of the month. Mom's on board.

Back to our vixens. Lucrecia draws first blood. She tells Vane she's much prettier than she appears in the social media photos! Ouch! It sounds like a compliment but it really isn't.

Beto, oblivious, suggests they exchange phone numbers and become new best friends. Lucrecia doesn't know anybody in town and Vane can get her connected socially.

Lucrecia, always heavy-handed, plows ahead...I'm really amazed you two get along so well. I mean, after such a breakup.

Vane gives her a syrupy smile and admits that she and Beto are much better friends than fiancés.

Is this a good start to a friendship? I don't think so. But I could be wrong.

But back to Doc B's home where amazing and thrilling new developments are taking place. Marina, whose vision still is decidedly murky, and who is bumping into furniture right and left, has been offered a job as Doc B's receptionist.

What will she have to do? Well, greet patients, answer phone, take notes, ...TAKE NOTES!!!???? Damiana points out that Marina only knows how to read and write in Braille. No problem. Best way to learn is by doing. She'll learn as she goes along.

Now who am I to doubt? It will surely be just as Doc B intends. We've already had other miracles right and left, including a baby who can live on thin air alone. Marina tentatively shakes his hand to seal the deal and Doc B sees Damiana to the door. Our sweet heroine continues to trundle around the room bumping into furniture and realizing that things "are going to be harder than she thought". Or maybe not.

And there we end. Not exactly a cliffhanger. More like What the Heck just Happened here?

Couples are coupling and uncoupling and none of it makes sense at all. It's just another puzzling yet wonderful day in the telenovela life span. Brush up your beanies, gird your loins, fasten your seat belts and get ready for Monday folks.

Thanks Doris for the Barkeeper's Friend tip. I do have some.

And there is still a Part V. But I love it that people already make comments before the full recap is posted. Just shows what a lively patio we have. None better.

Just like don Luis. Hot to trot and ready to ramble.

FLOR (highlights)
Ep 44: Part 1 Sleeping with the Ghost

Flor tries to explain to Teo that she didn’t summon Val. When he appeared, she asked him to leave. As Val interrupts, she swings her arm trying to shut Val up, but she tells Teo that she is shooing off a fly. After Teo apologizes to Flor and tells her that they can wait until she is ready to have a baby, she tells Teo to go up to the bedroom and wait for her because she missed him very much. Teo happily goes up and dances as jig as he takes off his clothes and jumps into bed. Alone with Val, Flor insists that Val leave, but Val hits her with a series of questions—is Teo as good a lover as he is: does she feel free? is she as happy as she was with him? Flor doesn’t answer, but tells Val that she refuses to let him mess with her intimate life with Teo.

Chile writes an ad to sell off the funeral home; in the ad he even includes that he could also use a friend. Afterwards, he goes to talk to Elpi, but sees Marga and Elpi sitting very close and holding hands in the church. When Marga walks out, Chile’s green-eyed monster chides Marga for already finding solace in another man. Later, Elpi clarifies to Chile that he was just trying to comfort Marga since she is going through a very rough time.

Teo and Flor are cuddling in bed. When Flor sees Val, she tries to get him to leave while trying to show Teo how much she wants him. As she continues, Val is walking around the room criticizing everything that Teo changed.

Flor tells Itza about Val. Itza already knew about Val since she sensed it and Chile confirmed it; that is why she gave Flor the blessed necklace and did some other rituals. When she asks Flor if she was thinking of Val or wished him to appear, Flor’s look admits that she did. Flor wants Itza to make her another necklace, but Itza explains that since Flor summoned Val, there is nothing that she can do.

Val goes to see Maxi who explains that he is back only because Flor summoned him…and because he didn’t really sell off his soul. Had he bothered to read the contract, he would have seen that it stated that nothing in the contract was valid. Later, Val is talking to Carlota who confesses that she reported Maxi ever since she promised to give Val special abilities and the higher ups had her shot out into the universe. Carlota has been pretending to be Maxi ever since then. When Val insists that he needs to be with Flor, Carlota chides him for being so stubborn and not figuring out what his true mission is. From now on, Val will be alone in limbo where he will probably remain forever.

Teo meets with Oscar and thanks him for always giving him such good advice and for being such a good role model. Later, Oscar confides in Elpi that he worries because Teo idolizes him…it’ll make things worse when he tells Teo his truth.

At the casino, Gladys, the dark haired girl, tells Sami that she doesn’t look well. Sami admits that she feels ill and collapses. After Gladys calls Octi, he takes her to Teo who checks her and finds that her implants have caused a severe infection; and Sami will need to go see a specialist.

Aure tells Mariana that Xochitl has started wetting her bed; so they meet with Xochitl and assure her that they won’t be fighting over her anymore…she can choose whoever she wants to live with as long as she spends time with both of them.

FLOR (highlights)
Ep 44: Part 2 Sleeping with the Ghost

Flor goes to talk to Chile and asks him to tell her everything he knows about Val…since she can see and hear him now. Chile admits that he would see Val and was very happy that Val had returned, but later he distanced himself from Val because Val started doing things he didn’t agree with. Flor wants to know how she can get rid of Val, but Chile seizes the opportunity and tells Flor that he will help her only if she accepts his relationship with Marga.

At night, Flor is in her bathroom getting ready for bed. When she steps out into the bedroom she sees Teo…AND VAL waiting for her in bed. She slowly goes to her side of the bed where Val lies and climbs on the bed to step over Val to lie between Teo and Val. Val tells her that no matter what she says or does, he isn’t leaving because she is his wife. Both Teo and Val cuddle up to Flor. Later at night, Flor is asleep and slowly turns toward Val who is looking at her with is sexy eyes. After she tells him that she has missed him and wants him to touch her and caress her, Teo wakes up and tells her she was talking in her sleep. Flor swears to Teo that she was dreaming of him. Just then, Teo gets a call from Octi who tells him that Sami has taken a turn for the worse; so Teo rushes to the hospital. After Teo reviews the case, he tells Octi that Sami needs emergency surgery.

In Flor’s bedroom, Val tells Flor not to fight her feelings for him. After Flor locks herself in the bathroom, Sami appears on Flor’s bed and wonders what she is doing there. Val quickly takes her out of the bedroom and they whiz over to the hospital where Sami sees herself hooked up to machines. She thinks she might be dead, but Val tells her that the machines show she is still alive.

MIRADA

JudyB, most of Friday's episode was preempted for a news alert here in NY. I just set the DVR to record the 2 AM showing and I'll watch it tomorrow, but I suspect it will be a bit of a disappointment in comparison with your fun and funny recap.

The recap was so good I'll even forgive "Vane has escaped the truck drivin' clutches of Big Ed..."     :-)

Getting a little action seems to have done Don Louse some good, at least he's being decent with Margo. Don Louse has been a lot more human lately, so I suspect he's on the path to TN redemption.

doris, ITA that "Snark aside, watching Marina learning how to “see” makes so much sense." I was afraid they would do something silly like have Doc Bazán take off her bandages and have her say something like "Oh, wow! You're so handsome, why don't you help me out of these clothes now..."

BTW, I'm probably the last to know that Bazán has a first name, but I heard it today. And promptly forgot it, but I'll listen for it now.

This is a fun TN as long as you don't take it "too" seriously. "Too" in this case meaning something like "in the slightest".

andy

MIRADA

It's worth a watch Andy, just to see Lucrecia and Vanessa sizing up each other. And yes, "truck drivin' clutches" was pretty awful. But I couldn't resist.

Doris...I too thought about the unlikely possibility of sending "milk" over. Of course there's no refrigeration in the little vecindad digs. And no pump. But no matter. Baby never needs to eat anyway. It's a Festivus Miracle.

FLOR

Rgv Chick, your excellent rendition really brought this to life for me.

"Chile writes an ad to sell off the funeral home; in the ad he even includes that he could also use a friend" struck me as very sad.

"Itza explains that since Flor summoned Val, there is nothing that she can do". So, it seems no one can do anything - except Val who can choose to die (please correct me if I am wrong).

Flor loves Val with her heart and she loves Teo with her head. The emotions are so different, but I must admit her "pull" toward Val, especially as Teo has been acting selfishly, wanting what he feels is best for himself. Not necessarily Flor.

Chile is out in the cold and Oscar is also afraid he will be estranged from Teo once his secret is revealed. Too many secrets and deceptions.

So did Val transport Sami to Flor's or did she walk there?

Rgv Chick, you are the best! Thanks for keeping this alive for us.

Diana

FLOR

I was trying to say I can't blame Flor for being pulled toward Val is understandable. Sorry, way too long a day.

Diana

"MIRADA":

Judy: Did I just see Lino washing his hands of Vanessa ?

MIRADA

Judy, I was blown away by "She can see her face in a watery, foggy sort of way and slowly touches her cheeks, nose, hair etc. to make a connection her brain can understand". I think you've captured the essence of how one begins to recover from a life altering injury/surgery perfectly. The slow dawning realization life has been altered is earth shattering, thankfully for the better for her.

"(evidently he's a fan of the wit and wisdom of trucking lingo)" wsa fun and "Couples are coupling and uncoupling and none of it makes sense" could not be more true!

doris, yes, it's been some time since I've seen red sneakers too but were pretty popular in Jersey where I grew up back in the day.

andy, so often the recaps are far more superior than the show itself and our current recappers certainly fit that bill.

Diana

MIRADA

I’d choose Vane over Lucreepy any day, just sayin’

So I guess since Ed and fam have the dough, Chucha is ready to grab it. If Vane and Ed make it down the aisle, I’ll be shocked.

So Marina can sort of see now but will it ever be 100%?

MIRADA

TF, "So Marina can sort of see now but will it ever be 100%?"

I think so, it will be another Festivus Miracle in June or July.

:-)

andy

JudyB girl, you hit this better than tiger woods hits the golf balls. And I love the snarky remarks You say about these silly confused men And women. And it's funny.

The one that had me laughing for a few minutes," meanwhile van and her wee suitcase are at the hospital and she's curled up with beto talking about her arranged marriage with big Ed. Beto is Confused, as he so often is." laughed
So hard my brother yelled back to ask what I was laughing at.

Now about marina wanting to see her mom, well I kinda understand. ButIf I had Carried a little human in my body for Almost a year and pushed him out, and Couldn't even see him, you better know That I'd want to see that little angel I Bonded with from the inside. This is me,"momma bring me my baby, I want to see you and him before anybody else.
Well she did see Doc hotty first, but that's not the same as seeing the mom
That raised me and loved me through al my blindness, and was there when I gave birth to my first baby, sight unseen. But This is A tn. Why didn't dami just bring the baby with her? Well Monday is comin.

I like that idea Anita came up with for lino. He could be an overnight sensation cuz alot of people watch yutube. He could get rich quick.

I think donnydoo thinks pru ain't to
Bright. He is in for a rude awakening.

I like that name "lucreepy". It fits her perfectly. It would be easy for her to trip up poor confused beto. Cuz he is often confused.

Doc redshoes, he so stupid.

Come on monday. Thank you JudyB. You
Got the recappin touch.

As always, my dear crazy Patio is brightening up a gray morning in Ohio. We seem to specialize in overcast skies here, but you all are making me smile and laugh right off the bat.

Diana and Doris, thanks for the kind words and props-- the red sneaker question is interesting. One of my sons-in-law has worn red Converse sneakers for years. He also has a more discreet black pair, but I have to admit I like the red ones. Or did until Doc Gruesome started wearing them!

TF...what a great nickname for Lucrecia--Lucreepy! Oh yes, it's a keeper for sure. Vane is pretty but rather useless right now. But Lucreepy, with all her intrusive "psychiatric" questions would wear thin quickly. With me anyway. Can we shunt her off to Big Ed?

Andy...I think we're going to have a number of Festivus Miracles in this one. For every month of the year.

Nina darlin'...Glad I could make you laugh. And loud. I embarrass my kids sometimes because I have a very loud laugh as well. But it's what gets me through the tough times. And I agree, Donnydoo underestimates Prudencia's intelligence. And her patience! She's going to lower the boom on him sometime soon..if she can just get her hands on her own money first.

Well, now that we've analyzed and "solved" most of the questions in this just-a-story, time to come to grips with Real Life. Have a great Saturday Patio Peeps.

Oh and yes, Steve, it appears that Lino has broken off completely with Vanessa. But I think, long-term, that they will be together.

MIRADA

"Lucreeepy" is a perfect name. She really is not a bad person, and if she was after anyone other than Beto, we would not give her a second thought. But hey, girl, hands off! He is marked for Marina and don't go trying to confuse him! Besides, smart people don't date their boss's daughter.

Lino deleting Vane from his contacts is a good step. Did he block her as a caller, too? Would it kill Vanessa to get a job? Does she even know what one is? Vane is sliding (already there?) into needy stalkerish behaviors and, quite frankly, it is getting tiresome. For Lino and for me. Her mother is such poor role model and parent. Hopefully, Vane will grow up soon, grow a spine, become more independent, and not be her mother's puppet-for-money.

MIRADA

First of all OT, Barkeeper's Friend worked great Doris. I've been beavering away in the kitchen this morning, and for once getting some results I like. Eternally grateful, amiga.

Also agree that Vanessa should get a job. She has the same work qualifications as Marina--Very Pretty.

And in addition, she can actually read and write in normal Spanish rather than Braille. It's a no-brainer--perfect for Vane (no pun intended)

Oh yes and "puppet for money". The Susana-Vanessa act makes you think of those organ grinders with the miserable little monkey dancing and frolicking for some pesos. Sad, sad, sad.

MIRADA

The Susana insisting Vane marry a rich guy instead of one with no money is the same theme Amor Real had. My money is on this one ending differently. Bankrupt parent need daughter to marry money. It happens in a lot of the historical and regency romance novels because, at one time in real life, love had nothing to do with marriage; it was about titles and/or money, for men and women. For women, in times when it was not appropriate for women to work, the idea was the norm. But nowadays, Vane could and needs to get a job. Women's Lib changed a lot of ideas that needed changing.

Downton Abbey had the same premise, but the Crawleys ended up liking and eventually loving each other. Lady Sybil running off with the chauffeur was not well received.

OT - Judy

I'm so glad the BKF worked for you. Best kept secret in the kitchen appliance world. And no throwing out of cleaning rags soaked with petrochemicals. Win-win.

MIRADA

I thought it was creepy and stalkerish how Lu just walked up when Beto and Vane were talking. I know they were at the hospital where Lu and Beto are obviously bound to see each other often but Lu and Beto are not a couple (yet???) she doesn’t need to be keeping tabs on him.

MIRADA

Good morning.

JudyB, this is really interesting. I was waiting impatiently "just to see Lucrecia and Vanessa sizing up each other." I saw it, I was not impressed.

Sure, they did size each other up, but it was no big deal. At this point I don't think Vane is competing with Rapunzel and I didn't see much hostility. Not a lot of warmth, but no hostility after they got it sorted out that Vane and Beto were not reconciling.

Now, did I read it totally wrong? I think this is totally cool, two people seeing something very differently. More fun.

I was very impressed with how Vanesa handled Big Ed.

Ah Andy, how true, how true. Different perspectives, different subjectivities. And it's not a male-female thing either. My sister and I can be talking about the same memory, and her interpretation of events is totally different from mine.

If the writers turn Vane and Lucreepy into best friends, we'll know a little more about the dynamic. Right now it's "seriously, that's what you think?.."

But also could be me projecting more into it than there was, simply to make the events "more interesting". Who knows? Like Beto, I confuse myself.

MIRADA ... on the Patio

Sizing each other up, yes I noticed it, everyone does it in all cultures and age groups, but usually in more subtle ways 😉. . .
Big Ed sizing up Chu and Vane, there was nothing subtle about that.

Poetic (artistic) license, or hyperbole, that our recappers can take, often for our enhanced entertainment benefit, is fun. It often makes the recap more fun than the episode, itself. Thank you recappers! 💗

While I now have closed captions that actually stay on the TV screen, they are pathetic. Yesterday, "Baldomero" was transcribed in the subtitles as "Maldumbero." Gah! It would work if he was a bad or stupid guy, but there you have it. These younger actors talk so fast that without recaps, I would be lost. What happened to distinct neutral Spanish diction?

I'm making peach cobbler for dessert tonight. With a side of vanilla ice cream, of course. 🍨 I acquired this easy-peasy recipe in 1974, lost it somewhere along the way, and then it showed up in my Facebook feed this week. It's a sign from above, right? It will be added back in to the rota of covered dish deserts now that we are reunited.

Good Day, Patio!!

Mirada

JudyB, another outstanding recap and the sides are magically delicious; I look forward to those every day.

JudyB, "The Susana-Vanessa act makes you think of those organ grinders with the miserable little monkey dancing and frolicking for some pesos. Sad, sad, sad." Excellent analogy!

Andy, you're not alone on the Van/Lulu "sizing up". Once Van told her that she and Beto had always been more friends than anything else, Lulu's defenses came down. They may not become besties, but I don't think they will be rivals.

OT-You bakers are making me feel guilty. I do enjoy baking, but the days are so hot here that I avoid turning on the stove as much as I can. I am, however, satisfied with all the virtual treats here on the patio :-)

Here's wishing Diana and Anita a safe trip and...

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO EVERYONE!!

FLOR

Diana, I think Val must have wished Sami there since Flor had just brought up his alleged stalking of Sami. And if Val isn't careful and figure out his true mission soon, he'll remain in limbo eternally.

So do I.

MIRADA

doris., Yesterday, "Baldomero" was transcribed in the subtitles as "Maldumbero."

I think Caray folks are having an influence, now even the Closed Captioning is getting snarky.     :-)

And I just had a couple of brain..., um, "incidents". What if Vane and Rapunzel do start getting together and going out together, and Vane introduces Rapunzel to Big Ed, and then Rapunzel thinks, "OMG, what a jerk! But I could remake him into someone sooooo much better!"

She wouldn't be the first woman to think like that.

Second brain fart, er, incident, was since there are so many couplings and potential couplings (undefined for now) with seemingly somebody for everybody in this TN, and my expectation is that most everybody will in fact wind up with somebody, I think Doc Mask is going to wind up with Ramona whether he likes it or not. Hey, it would be better than the usual TN rough justice where he would get beat up or worse in prison.

I think it's a good idea for lino/van
To cut their Ties for now cuz neither one of them is ready for the Other. Vanny Needs to grow up. Alot, cuz like you say JudyB she's that lil monkey jumpin Around tryin to get moma some money. That is a sad situation. Does sudoo even know what a job is? When van grows up She will be able to deal with her pushy ma. Not Until then.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY YALL!

MIRADA

OK, I'll try to cut back on the caffeine, but I've got one more point. At the restaurant Big Ed, the Big Spender, must have left a fine tip, because Vanesa ogled it and had to force herself to leave it on the table. She's feeling the pinch of poverty.

I love it that we’re still rehashing this episode one day later. Hanging out on the patio is great fun.

Because I’m madly taking notes, I often miss visuals....like Big Ed’s big tip and Vane’s reaction. But glad Ed’s a good tipper because he’s invariably rude and crude with the waitstaff.

MIRADA

JudyB, watching these TNs can be great fun, but also problematic for those of us whose Spanish is limited. When I got back into watching TNs about two years ago with Mi adorable maldición I was really lost. Sometimes I would watch an episode twice or more, with Closed Captioning turned on at least for one viewing. The CC helped a lot but I found I really missed much of the visuals when I was busy reading instead of watching the show. Still, I was very lucky that MAM had, as far as I could tell, letter perfect Closed Captioning. They must have worked from the script, and quite often during a scene change the CC dialog would start before the actors said anything. Then the CC would struggle to keep up and sometimes fell behind which was confusing.

After MAM I found Caray,Caray and I gave up on CC and went back to just watching and listening, and I enjoy the shows a lot more. Of course I depend now on the recaps to fill in what I did not understand. Some days that's not so much, other days it's most of the show. I go back and forth on watching first or reading the recap first.

Long story short, I very much appreciate the work you and other recappers do, and realize that it is a quite a lot of work. I also appreciate all the comments we all make. It's so much more fun to watch these TNs "with somebody" rather than alone.

:-)

Interesting perspective on the best way to watch telenovelas, Andy. Now that my hearing has deteriorated, I even have the closed captioning on during programs in English. (Hearing aids restore the high tones that you've lost, but don't really restore your original, 'healthy" hearing). I still understand one to one conversations fine in Spanish, but would often be lost on TV now without the closed captions.

Still, I'm amazed at how much Diana can understand while recapping Reina. She doesn't know Spanish (other than a few phrases that she's picked up from watching for several years) but she gleans so much just through observation.

You've given me the idea that perhaps I should make the time to watch twice...once with and once without.

Watching a program and pulling it into some kind of cohesive, written whole IS hard work. But we're rewarded when our "fellow family room viewers" laugh or cry with us (through what we read in their posts). I find fellowship and laughter here and I went back to recapping precisely to cope with a recent loss in my life. I knew the focus and energy I would put into the recaps would help me get through each day.

So I thank you all for being here with me, laughing with me, worrying over these Pretend People with me, and then laughing at ourselves for taking these stories so darned seriously! In some crazy, curious kind of way it feels like fun group therapy.

Does that make sense?

Or as that character in Mi Marido Tiene Mas Familia...Did I say that or just think it?

Happy Sunday and Happy Father's Day to all.

Bless your heart JudyB. I'm glad we can help you in someway. I suppose we
Kinda help each other get through stuff. The laughter and the anger help
Us forget our own junk we're dealing with. Kind of a fun adventurous escape
For grown-ups. Yaaah for us! :-)

PATIO

Judy - so many times the recaps here, snark, and fellowship of telenovela addicts is the brightest thing in the Internet. It has provided me some nice distractions, over the years, and often my laugh of the day. I have even met a lovely Patio friend who is local, and we girls get together for lunch from time to time.

Recapping is work and I always appreciate the time given so freely to us. My deepest hanks to all y'all recappers! 🥰🥰🥰

Hi Nina and Doris...yes, it's amazing how sometimes the Patio is the best part of the day.

Nursing a miserable sore throat and head cold at the moment (thanks to my adorable grandson) but will be in my chair at 3 pm, watching and then writing up whatever penetrated the fog in my brain.

See you all later.
