The Futility of Double Crossing the Devil

While exchanging pleasantries with Wendy, Yameli gets a call (courtesy of Ben). Yameli makes excuses and beats a hasty retreat. Yameli speeds to Luxor as she touches base with Ben. Axel is giving a tour of Luxor showing off and telling his attractive “friend” how important he is. He is laying it on thick, and his mind clearly isn’t on her mental assets.

Carrancho and Monchis have emerged from the car driver’s seat and trunk (respectively) and are drinking (shocker) and counting money. Monchis calls bad henchie after Carrancho leaves and he tells him to follow him. Axel continues his self-promotion tour saying how tight he and Charly are. Then he tells his date he has a secret. We see a black and white flashback to what looks like a talent show with a young Axel and Charly. I could not understand the significance of what transpired.

Diana and Lidia are in the kitchen sparring verbally. Charly tells Erick Juanjo is the best producer in Mexico as Juanjo looks extremely uncomfortable.

Vanesa is concocting a strong drink as Erick walks in, takes it in and seems chagrined. The extortionist (thanks Rgv Chick) calls Erick again and oh my, we see who it is – Carrancho! Bad henchie has been likewise enlightened, going to the public phone, calling back the last number dialed and confirming was Erick who answers. Carrancho has been “made”.

Yameli has made her way into the Luxor security office and has the file (tape of her planting the microphone) on the screen as Axel and his friend make their way to the studio.

Charly’s not so fabulous and rather poorly attended party is ending. Wendy mentions the wedding as they leave. Is it just me or does Charly look perpetually nervous? Juanjo is not happy. Lidia and Charly argue about Monchis.

Vanesa gives Erick a huge wad of cash (to pay the extortionist) and then pulls out her pretty little pills. Vanesa gives Diana some lip and asks if she is OK as Vanesa leaves – even Charly doesn’t stop her.

Charly gets a call from Luxor security as Axel treats us to a catchy rap song. Security comes in and then Charly calls, reaming him out and then hanging up. Axel pretends the conversation has continued for benefit of the girlfriend. The security officer and Axel enter and after the tape has finished downloading, take it and leave with Yameli still hiding. Axel and his date get in the cherry red sports car and take off – Yameli arrives seconds too late to stop them. She calls Ben in a panic, describing the car.

Axel is driving as he swigs from the bottle, safe driving the last thing on his mind. The police pull him over as Axel tells his date to relax, there’s no problem. Yep, they call Ben’s office and invite him out of the car. The officer bends him over the car and searches him, then gives him the breathalyzer. Axel tries to bribe his way out of it - to no avail. Then he gets abusive to the policeman which does not go over well – he is taken away as the policeman calls Ben and confirms he’s got the tape!

Juanjo and Wendy have another discussion regarding Yameli. Once again, Juanjo’s defensiveness and Wendy’s insecurity fueling the fire.

Yameli and Ben celebrate the recovery of the tape with coffee. Erick celebrates his influx of cash with Serg. Little does he know the extortionist will not be singing. At least to him.

Charly and Vanesa talk – I think she says she is going to a movie with Erick. Axel calls Charly and tells him where he is, asking for help. Charly is less than pleased. Once again, Axel talks to a silent phone.

Erick and Yameli talk. I think they make plans to meet up.

Lidia goes through a photo album and sees that a picture is missing. She ponders…
Carrancho is talking with a woman drinking. Bad henchie watches and shakes his head. He tells Monchis who pitches a fit of forced laughter which is strangely almost as intense as his anger might have been.

Diana

REINA

I would NOT want to be in Axel's shoes but I would want to be in Carrancho's even less.

So, was Axel another of Charly's victims? If someone understood that flashback, please explain.

Sleep well all.

SILVIA #6 Monday 6/3/19

Silvia returns from Cuba totally in love with Arturo and with multiple movie deals. Unfortunately, Arturo is only interested in seeing Silvia “whenever” he feels like it and is no closer to divorce or discussing a serious relationship. Silvia is ready to follow Arturo to Brazil where he is going to film a movie and asks Gregorio her manager for an advance and to postpone her own movie filming. Gregorio refuses knowing the situation. Everyone sees the situation as it is except for Silvia. Finally, Arturo sends her a letter saying he is breaking it off with her because as Gregorio had pointed out to him in Cuba, he is really too old for her. Silvia is destroyed. She decides to concentrate on her work and her daughter. Silvia has enough money at this point to build the home of her dreams. She and her friend Sonia also open up an appliance store as a side business. Soon Sonia tells her that her boss Emilio Azcárraga (influential television executive) is interested in her. Silvia is reluctant to get involved again but Emilio soon sweeps her off her feet with a quick flight aboard a private plane to Acapulco. Over a romantic dinner on the beach complete with a private violinist to serenade them, he tells her she has a little mouth like that of a “pato encantador” (an enchanting duck) and gives her the nickname “Pato.” He is widowed and has broken up with another actress Rocío. He is a free man. Silvia declares herself a free woman and a new love affair starts. Silvia mentions it was finally with a man her own age. Emilio’s philosophy is “para que nada nos separe, que nada nos una”. (So that nothing should separate us, let nothing unite us). Silvia is nominated for the Best Actress award of the Ariel Awards in Mexico but does not win. Emilio maintains a personal life apart from Silvia and much to her surprise he decides to go back to his previous girlfriend Rocío and marry her. Silvia is broken up over this. Sonia tells her to stop him. Silvia only wants him to be happy. Emilio tracks Silvia down at a club and tells her that he made a mistake and that his marriage to Rocío is off. He is lost without Silvia. She forgives him and they are back together. Silvia tells the viewer so much for a man who said “para que nada nos separe, que nada nos una” . . .

Such an enjoyable episode. I loved the appliance store.

REINA-SOY

Diana, I will never tire of telling you how amazing you are. Thank you for such a remarkable retelling of tonight's events.

The flashback was indeed a type of talent show, much like the ones that Erick went to at the boxing arena. The only difference was that "back then" the competitions were outside. In that particular flashback, Axel and his partner won the competition by default since Charly and Juanjo were late. So it seems that Charly has surrounded himself by his acquaintances from the barrio. And what a blow for Axel to go from aspiring rapper to head security. That might have been Charly's way of thwarting his competition or sending him a very rude message--"I rule!" Yup, Diana..another of Charly's victims.

"Wendy mentions the wedding as they leave. Is it just me or does Charly look perpetually nervous? Juanjo is not happy." Nope, Juanjo is not happy because he'll be in the dog house. When Charly asked if they had set a wedding date, Wendy replied, "In 3 weeks," while Juanjo replied "No!" Later, when Wendy and Juanjo were talking, Wendy does not like the fact that, now that Lareli is around, Juanjo's dreams in the music business have resurfaced. Juanjo refused to go in the doghouse since he replied, "Yeah, And?"

"Diana and Lidia are in the kitchen sparring verbally." They certainly were! Diana was berating Lidia for making light of Charly's mishap with Monchis. Lidia was actually shocked since she had no clue. While Diana was telling her about Charly getting shot while with Monchis, Vanesa was listening. Vanesa now feels she can lie to her parents since they lie to her.

"Charly tells Erick Juanjo is the best producer in Mexico as Juanjo looks extremely uncomfortable." I think Juanjo was just being humble in that scene...maybe a bit upset since Charly was being such a fake an dso presumptuous. Erick was quite uncomfortable too. Charly was sharing his plans for Erick. Once Erick finishes his schooling, Erick will go work for him and be trained by Juanjo so that Erick can become his music producer...since Charly is the only singer in the family (BLECH!). Erick turned to Lidia and sarcastically told her that Charly had it all planned out for him...SWEET! (NOT!)

Hasta Mañana, Patio Peeps!

REINA

Ahh Rgv Chick. You tied together all the loose ends beautifully and in a large bow in your always perceptive and wise way. Thank you so very much...

I just loved "Juanjo refused to go in the doghouse since he replied, "Yeah, And?" Perfect Rgv just perfect.

"what a blow for Axel to go from aspiring rapper to head security". Indeed! While stylistically different, Axel did have talent. It must have been a cruel blow to have been edged aside. In a way Juanjo was similarly affected, allowed to keep "his place" as he did not design to sing. Perhaps that is a blessing.

The fact Charly told Erick he "is the only singer in the family (BLECH!)" seems to bear out his entitlement to being the only singer in his empire.

And why does Axel call him "papi"? I gather that is a term of something - respect?

I wondered what Lidia knew of the shooting so appreciate your noting she didn't know. I guess Lidia is a stand by her man (when he does not deserve it) kind of gal. Ack.

So what is going to happen to railroad Juanjo's wedding!? I cannot wait to find out.

Diana

SILVIA

Jarifa, I continually marvel at your picture perfect words that continually capture every essence of a story. Lovely.

Silvia is such a romantic yet a free spirit who loves and lives passionately. What an exciting life she led. Yet, despite her giving her heart so freely, fiercely and completely, the recent men in her life seem to lack real commitment.

I also loved the appliance store scene. The acting has me on the edge of my seat.

Thank you Jarifa - this was wonderful.

Diana

Diana, you always start my day off with a smile with your kind comments. . Thanks! Yes, these men don’t seem to be interested in much of anything except their own freedom, putting it nicely.

BTW, the Latin American Tower was dedicated in 1956. So, that would make Silvia 25 at this point.

"REINA":

RGV Chick: Something tells me Juanjo's wedding will NOT end well.

REINA

This was such a great zinger Diana...

He is laying it on thick, and his mind clearly isn’t on her mental assets.

as was this....

Charly's not so fabulous and poorly attended party

Well, we're gradually learning that Charly is not so fabulous, period. An empty shell, feeding off the work and creativity of others, and ready to shove aside and step on anybody who doesn't serve his purposes.

Thanks for doing such an incredible job on this. If I had your schedule, honestly I'd be heading straight to bed after I got home. You're a champ, kid.

Oh, and great title also--very perceptive.

SILVIA

Thanks Jarifa for the resumé of last night's events. Ahhhh, that dear Silvia just breaks my heart. She's looking for love in all the wrong places. I don't know if there are any faithful, committed men around, but if there are, they are not in Silvia's orbit. The only "keeper" was her first husband...whom she didn't want. And can't blame her.

But oh my, what a glorious, romantic ride she had in each case, before crashing to the ground. A psychologist once said that men are looking for power, freedom and fun. And have trouble with the commitment of marriage. Sure seems to be the case here.

So far anyway. Silvia is a game girl.Ready to pick herself up and go forward after each heartbreak. I'm liking her more and more as I learn about her life.

Gracias amiga mia.

REINA

Judy, thank you for your kind words.

If we had a dictionary of characters, your "An empty shell, feeding off the work and creativity of others, and ready to shove aside and step on anybody who doesn't serve his purposes" would surely be the definition of Charly.

Among the many sad things here is that Charly has a good voice and incredible moves. He could have shared the glory with Yameli but chose another path. Selfish folks want to vanquish their competition, not include them.

Oh what might have been.

Diana

SILVIA

JudyB, Silvia sure had a taste for the bad boys but then again she is so young. Boring and stable doesn’t do it at that age for many. Well, we will just have to see if Emilio lasts longer than Arturo.

Sure hope that the Emilio idyll last a little longer, Jarifa. Heartbreak is a terrible drain on one's energy, and Sylvia needs all she has to keep supporting her family and her home. Mortgages don't just pay themselves, alas! Nor are they paid with passionate kisses and bottles of champagne.

What a perfect definition of "selfishness" Diana. Vanquish rather than include.

Got to wean myself off the computer now and start the yardwork. Have a great day everybody!

Keep forgetting to put up headings. Sorry folks.

reina-soy

Thank you Diana, Rgv Chick.

Vanesa tells Charly that she made a friend - Silvana. But Diana doesn't like her. You know, she doesn't like anybody. She asks to go to the movies with her. Vanesa seems to be a good girl with Charly, but rebellious with Diana. Even though it is Diana who supported her modeling and Charly said no. And the alcohol and the pills - I think Vanesa is heading into substance abuse.

SILVIA

JudyB, I have a hard time remembering the headings, too.

REINA

Thanks Lucio! I had to smile. Diana doesn't like anyone, you are so right! I am not even convinced she likes Charly. She may love him a bit but that doesn't necessarily means she likes him.

I wouldn't quite call Vanesa a daddy's girl (on her part). On his, absolutely.

Vanesa isn't happy and with her two terrible parents, how could she be?

Diana

SILVIA

Well, haven't made it out to yard yet but dinner is bubbling away in the Crockpot. I'm thinking that our lovely young Sylvia is a prize these men want to win--but not keep. They remind me of little kids who want a puppy but don't want to bother taking care of it long-term.

Good Morning, Patio!!

REINA-SOY

Diana, I have noticed in several of the TNs that men call each other "papi/papa." It's used more like American's use "dude," "bro," or "man."

JudyB, I agree with Diana, "An empty shell, feeding off the work and creativity of others, and ready to shove aside and step on anybody who doesn't serve his purposes." Perfect definition for Charly.

Lucio, thanks for clarifying about who Vanesa is going to the movies with. Vanesa does seem to be a good girl with Charly. It was genuine since he was her idol. but now that she found out where he really was for those two weeks and why, I think she is now playing him. Her comment to Silvana was after all, "They lie to me; so I can lie to them." I do agree that she is heading toward substance abuse. Maybe Erick will be the one to help her avoid that becasue I surely don't see her allowing her parents to help her.

Ben told Yameli to start using Erick as a means to get to Monchis. I thought she might resist because of the "call of the blood", but she went right along with it.

SILVIA

I haven't seen the episode yet, but after reading your superb minicap, Jarifa, I can't wait to see what Emilio looks like...and the appliance store!

Thank you, Jarifa!

SILVIA

RgvChick, I loved the store. For me, it showed a willingness and versatility in making $ on Silvia’s part.

REINA

Apparently Wendy like Juanjo better when he's goal-less and dissatisfied with life. Why doesn't she find a way to get involved in his passions rather than fight them off? Shows she never cared about his aspirations from the start.

SILVIA

was tough to watch. She was incredibly naive. Interesting that she let go of her morals, given the time period. When Sonia was trying to convince Silvia that she could find a husband, Silvia looked taken aback and claimed that even if she was one of those producers, she wouldn't marry a woman like herself. Was it because she felt tainted after falling for Arturo, and then followed a similar path with Emilio? It was very obvious both men weren't looking for anything serious with her, and she wasn't in the dark about it.

SILVIA

Thanks, Jarifa. I missed watching last night. You sure have a talent for cutting to the chase, like this: Everyone sees the situation as it is except for Silvia.

Poor naïve Silvia. Landing good work, but a bust in romantic love. I can't believe she was willing to delay her own movie to follow Arturo. Oh well, young and dumb -- been there, done that.

SYLVIA

Thank you ,Jarifa. Sylvia sure had a go at a couple lovers before she hit 25. She was a very free spirit for the times.I fell asleep and missed the end.

REINA SOY

Thanks to Diana for another excellent recap and to Chickie for filling in some gaps. ( I just got an email with a photo of my 8year old Grandgirl holding a baby chick that they raised in the classroom !)

Well, the 11_year old is home with me today. The local strawberries are finally in ,and we are enjoying them. Have a good xay, all. Sunny but only high 60s here .

REINA

Rgv Chick, thank you for the explanation of "papi". I was puzzled so appreciate your clearing that up for me.

Susanlynn, fresh strawberries (and blackberries) are two of my favs...Enjoy...

Diana

SILVIA

Niecie I smiled (ruefully) at your "Oh well, young and dumb -- been there, done that".

Yeah. Me too! :(

Diana

SILVIA

Anon, yes, Silvia was incredibly naive. I often wonder if the “morals” at that time kept people more in line or if sexual behavior was just more “underground” so to speak.

Niecie, Diana, I think many of us had the “young and dumb” experience. So funny but so true!

REINA Part 1

Time, Love and Tenderness. Somewhere. But not here.

Charly and the guard enter Luxor’s security office. Upon logging on, they quickly discover the files showing who planted the microphone are gone. The guard is incredulous and Charly is furious. The guard swears on his mother that he doesn’t know what happened. Charly is immune to his protestations of innocence and fires him.

Serg watches as Erick counts his cash. Handshakes and hugs as Erick leaves to meet the extortionist.

At their studio, Vibes, Yameli and Juanjo start jabbering about Charly but are mercifully interrupted by Erick.

Charly is having a very, very bad day. Axel is the next victim of his wrath, thinking it was he who betrayed him. Axel denies up and down but Charley isn’t having it and dismisses him. In an instant, he loses one of the few in his inner circle.

Next, the sting goes down. A woman (Carrancho’s woman/accomplice or both) comes and sits next to Erick on the park bench. He shows her the cash and she tells him his mother is dead but his father is still alive. The camera pans up and we see bad henchie sprawled out face down on the grass like a sniper, with a clear path to the target. A shot rings out! The woman is hit, slumps and falls to the ground. Carrancho comes out of his hiding place, knowing instinctively where the shot came from and fires. But the other is quicker and he falls. Erick and the bystanders run for their lives.

Yameli eavesdrops as Charly and Diana discuss his loving uncle. Charly invites her in and explains the situation getting a bit too close to her as she leaves. Yameli realizes she just dodged a bullet (one of the lucky few who did tonight) and calls Ben.

Diana

REINA Part 2

Time, Love and Tenderness. Somewhere. But not here.

Rose gives Charly a file on the security guard I think. Yameli visits Diana and asks if she is OK. As they talk, we see a black and white flashback of Charly singing Yameli’s song as an adoring Yam and Juanjo are on the sidelines.

Bad henchie (whose name I now think is Antonio) tells Monchis the news. It doesn’t seem to be of grave consequence to Monchis who proceeds to stuff his face with pizza and hot sauce.

Lidia and Antonio are being tailed as they leave her apartment, headed for Monchis’ lair. Lidia does not feel particularly amorous as she questions Monchis about what happened to Charly. He tells her the news that Carrancho was the extortionist. She demands to know who Erick’s father is after which the tone and tenure of the conversation quickly deteriorates as he asserts he is her husband. He is pushed even closer to the edge of insanity and violence, turning a purplish shade of red as his rage grows. Lidia is clearly upset and wants to get away as he pushes her down and grabs her by the throat. Unfortunately, there is no sniper in sight. We next see her disheveled, lip trembling, numb as tears slowly make their way down her face. It appears she has been raped. She is in a daze and in shock.

Erick and Serge discuss what happened and try to put the pieces together. No surprise Monchis’ name is mentioned as they try and digest what occurred. I was typing and missed the image Erick calls upon his computer. Was it an article on Yameli being arrested for drugs?

Monchis and Antonio talk and count money (several different scenes of that tonight)
.
Oh goody, it’s Brandon the sleazy photographer. Vanesa is impressed but Diana is not.
`
Oh noes. Charly, Diana and Vanesa at the Luxor posing once again as a unified, happy family as Yameli smiles from the sidelines. She must be assigned wardrobe duty that night as she fluffs Charly’s jacket before he poses with fans. Charly is sandwiched between Vanesa and Diana with kisses from either side. Blech. In a flash, he is transported to the studio where he once again stands in the middle, this time between Yameli and Juanjo, clearly doing a bit more than flirting.

Monchis and Charly correspond on the internet which I cannot discern.

Yameli arrives at the studio and Juanjo ignores her. The fact that Charly is smitten does not escape him and he tells Yameli to be careful. Ahh, speak of the devil and he appears. He manhandles Yameli’s arm which Juanjo doesn’t like and leaves. Yameli flirts a bit and the gullible Charly is eating it up. He watches her walk away with longing. Yameli is frustrated as she gets to her car, throwing her bag and bending over, clearly bothered. All this is seen by Juanjo who watches. And wonders…

Diana

REINA

Tonight was a tough one.

The dialog seemed to fly fast and furious and words were being bandied about at a far too rapid pace for me.

Please fill in what I missed and correct what I got wrong.

Sleep well!

Diana

SILVIA #7 Tuesday 6/4/19

Silvia keeps looking for Mr. Right. Her non-committal romance with Emilio continues. In meantime, she is pursued by Severiano de la Barrera and becomes engaged to him knowing she is not in love with him. She ends up choosing her uncertain relationship with Emilio rather than going through with the marriage.

Silvia also decides that she wants a huge portrait of herself by the famous painter Diego Rivera to fill one of the walls of her new house. Diego Rivera agrees to paint a full length portrait of Silvia and charges her nothing. Silvia shows the viewer her portrait.

Silvia’s good friend Pedro Infante dies in a plane crash. The whole nation is in mourning.

Emilio wants to take Silvia on a trip with him to New York. Her daughter is not happy with Silvia leaving again. Silvia is interested in seeing all of the musicals. She would like to bring musicals like those in New York back to Mexico. She and Emilio return to Mexico City and co-produce a musical in which Silvia also stars called “Ring, ring, llama el amor”. (Ring, Ring, Love Calling). It is an artistic success in Mexico City but not necessarily a financial one. Silvia comes up with the idea of taking it on tour where they are able to make up the money they need. While she is on tour, Emilio comes to visit her and inform her that he is getting married to somebody else. He explains that he and Silvia are just in different places in their lives. She has her family and work and his life is going in a different direction. Silvia is not happy.

Silvia explains to the viewer that it would take a while but they would become “friends” again eventually. She remarks that so much happened in 1957. An earthquake even knocked the “Angel de la independencia” statue off of its base.

reina-soy

Thank you, Diana.

"Yameli visits Diana and asks if she is OK." Diana admits that she doesn't like Axel because Charly trusts him more than her. Yameli tells Diana that she made Chary. Without her there would not have been Charly. Diana takes it in. Yameli is building Diana up, sensing her feeling not appreciated.

The modeling agency executive, Alberto Cantú (Brandon Peniche,) says the client liked Vanesa a lot and they are going to sign the contract and expand the campaign to TV, billboards, points of sale. Oops, that means Charly will find out. Vanesa is being brave with her mother saying it is her life and her career and Charly shouldn't interfere. But Diana quickly returns her to earth by pretending to call Charly right this moment. Vanesa backpedals a bit, saying she herself will talk to Charly, when the time is right.

GENERAL FYI:

Univision (https://www.univision.com) is posting transcripts of scenes and episodes for its novelas so if you're not sure about what some characters said, you could check them out (I'm not sure how accurate they are & Univision has started & stopped this practice before.) The full transcripts for the episodes (as opposed to scenes) seem to be available only if you have access to one of the cable networks that has an agreement with Univision.

REINA-SOY

Diana, you have spun a golden masterpiece. You had a tough episode and you summed it up exquisitely.

Before Erick got to Vibes, Juanjo was quite bothered by having to lie to Charlie about working with Erick. Yameli understands, but tells him that sometimes lies are necessary; and since Erick requested anonymity, they should respect Erick's wishes. When Erick arrives, Yameli tries her best to get him to talk to Monchis about his desire to sing, but Erick won't budge and doesn't appreciate Yameli's insistence that he allow them to reveal who he is and walks out. I think Yameli was pressing Erick to talk to his father since Ben had insisted that she use Erick to find out where Monchis is.

Yameli did dodge a bullet since Charly blamed Peralta for being the snitch. When Charly insinuated that Peralta would have to be taken care of, Yameli immediately called Ben and told him that Peralta is in danger. Ben assured her that they would take care of Peralta.

Erick did find an article about this mother, Yameli. He was shocked to see that she had been killed in prison and that she had been in prison for drug trafficking. Was it an article on Yameli being arrested for drugs? When Serg suggested that Erick give up his search, Erick responded that Serg can't understand because he has a loving family; in contrast, Erick knows nothing about his bio parents and feels like he has no family.

"Monchis and Antonio talk and count money" Unfortunately. Monchis is running out of money; so he has Tono contact Cahrly and tell him to hurry up with a concert so that they can launder money. Charly wasn;t too keen on the idea, but still went to tell Juanjo and Yameil taht they needed to hurry and prepare Chris for his first concert. Neither Juanjo or Yameli think Chris is ready, but the boss has spoken!

In regards to Vanesa and Diana's conversation with Cantu, the agent/photographer, Cantu told them that the sponsor wanted to go national with the campaign Vanesa modeled for. Diana worries that Charlie will find out; so Cantu urges them to tell Charly ASAP. Vanesa insisted that she be the one to tell Charly. Vanesa is impressed but Diana is not.

Hasta Mañana, Patio!

REINA-SOY

Lucio our comments crossed! Thanks for elaborating on the scene with Alberto and explaining Diana's feelings about Axel. Yameli sure knows how to win over Diana...stroke, stroke, stroke that ego!

SILVIA

Another very entertaining episode. I really enjoyed seeing Diego Rivera’s portrait of Silvia and see Silvia move onto producing besides acting. The footage from Pedro Infante’s funeral and the earthquake damage done to the “Angel de la independencia ” was fascinating.

REINA

Lucio, "Yameli is building Diana up, sensing her feeling not appreciated". Thank you! Your information was so helpful and fills in the gaps perfectly. You have a great way with words. Gracias.

Rgv Chick, thank you for your always generous support!

All of your comments were invaluable and were carefully created. You have such attention to detail! Now, I understand Erick's reluctance and frankly, I'm not comfortable with Yameli manipulating him, although it's part of her mission. That said, her son is now in her orbit...

I'm glad that Ben agreed to protect Perlata. Let's hope that mission is accomplished.

I thought the article might have said Yameli died, but thank you for confirming that. I am reluctant sometimes to write things if I'm not sure.

Yes, Chris doesn't seem to be ready vocally or emotionally and pushing for a concert prematurely seems to be a bad idea.

So here's my question. I thought Cantu was a fraud. Does he have some legitimacy? I can't see him lying to Diana at this point but...

And Anon, thank you for the tip on the transcripts. With working away from home (and at home), being gone over half the day, my time is limited as it is. I so appreciate the fact the patio is here to help and bail me out.

Lucio and Rgv Chick, thank you, thank you!

Diana

"REINA":

Diana: I'm hoping Yameli's undercover is NOT blown.

SILVIA

Jarifa, just lovely.

Silvia continues to not only bounce back but thrive despite one heartache to the next.

"Emilio comes to visit her and inform her that he is getting married to somebody else. He explains that he and Silvia are just in different places in their lives:" just made me cringe. That's worse than the "it's not you - it's me" line. Ack. This is proof positive Silvia is much kinder than I - as I would have cut him off at the knees. Well not really but...

And Jarifa, could you kindly explain the scene with the money? I was lost...

Thank you so much for the excellent recap.

Diana

Diana, thanks! I did not record this and do not remember the money scene. : (. Sorry. Maybe somebody else will have the answer.

SILVIA

Maybe I have it wrong Jarifa. It seemed Silvia was at a party and she gave the man some sort of cloth bag, I thought of money. i think it was the man she was engaged to, he was very angry.

Diana

THE BAG CONTAINED ALL OF THE JEWELRY THAT SEVERIANO DE LA BARRERA HAD GIVEN HER PRIOR TO THE ENGAGEMENT. HE WAS UPSET BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T ARRIVE FOR THE REUNION HE HAD GATHERED TO FORMALLY ASK HER HAND IN MARRIAGE. INSTEAD SHE SPENT IT IN THE RAIN WITH EMILIO AFTER THE THEATER. SEVERIANO THOUGHT SHE WAS PLAYING WITH HIM AND USING HIM TO GET THINGS FROM HIM, BUT SILVIA PROVED HIM WRONG BECAUSE SHE HAD ALREADY PLANNED TO RETURN EVERYTHING TO HIM, HENCE THE BAG. SHE GAVE HIM A SPEECH ABOUT TREATING WOMEN FOR WHO THEY ARE, NOT AS TROPHIES. HE SAID SHE HAD NO HEART. AND THAT'S THE END OF THAT.

Oh thank you so much Anon!!

That clarifies everything. I so appreciate your taking the time to answer my question. And doing so with such excellent detail!

I am very appreciative!

Above. Sorry. Diana

Time, Love and Tenderness. Somewhere. But not here.

You come up with the best titles Diana. And sounds like this was a brutal, violent episode on many levels. I may not catch up on the story until this weekend, but the pace is certainly fast and furious.

With the other granny out of town (in Alaska of all places) I've been babysitting more than usual. Sure is cutting into my telenovela time but I'm not complaining.

Happy Wednesday everybody.

And Diana, Happy Work Anniversary. I've long ago forgotten my Linkedin password so I'll just congratulate you here!

SILVIA

Did get to see this one, Jarifa. And what a sad, sad episode. Silvia was certainly mistreated by her two great loves. Seems like the only men who treat her well are those for whom she feels only a tepid affection. Hope she starts having better luck soon!

"REINA":

Judy: Happy Hump Day to you too from the Alamo City!

REINA

I'm so happy you have extra time with your grandbabies Judy! I know you savor each and every moment.

This was a brutal episode and joy is no where to be found.

Thank you for your good wishes - 19 years where I am now and a good many previously elsewhere :)

Diana

Thanks, Anon, for the info.

Diana, I was happy she told Severiano off and returned everything she hadn’t asked for. She also made a comment about giving of himself and not things somewhere along the line. What a whirlwind of a life!

JudyB, yes! Silvia does need a break in this parade of men that aren’t good for her.

Thanks, all, for stopping by the patio.

Thank you Diana and jarifa. The telenovelas and your recaps and The comments provide me with some needed distraction. I appreciate your time talent, and effort.

Monchis is a monster.

SILVIA

Susanlynn, thanks for joining us on the Silvia patio. It is fun having a different kind of program to watch.

REINA

Susanlynn, you read my mind. All day long I've been thinking Monchis is a monster and lo and behold, you say it exactly.

I was also thinking he has nothing to offer. No goodness, kindness, humor - nada. What on earth ever attracted Lidia to him?

Diana

Thanks, Jarifa and everybody commenting. I loved seeing Diego's painting of Silvia. Funny he suggested she go nude for her sitting. She teased him about all his women. I wonder if Frida Kahlo was in his life at this point.

Tough being a young divorced mother in the 1950s. Such stigma.

One more thing. Interesting that Silvia and Arturo did work together again, though it wasn't shown. I was hoping for another look-see at Marcelo Cordoba in vintage clothes, but nope.

Oops, SILVIA.

Diana, I am not surprised that you and I are on the same wavelength. It's not the first time that has happened. Monchis seems almost beastlike to me...The way he treats people...his facial expressions.....The way he eats. Ugh.

REINA Part 1

A Family In Crisis

Alberto and Diana chat and flirt while elsewhere, Erick and Serge watch the news about the shooting. Carrancho is dead. Erick expresses whom he thinks is culpable. The next step in the chain reaction is Antonio getting in Charly’s car with a wad of cash in exchange for Peralta’s (the Luxor security guard’s) file.

Yameli looks at her story board and picks up the recent picture of Charly and his adoring family. I believe Ben calls to tell her Peralta will be protected.

Monchis is trying to reach Erick to no avail. The file is now in Monchis blood stained hands.

Lidia is still suffering after being brutalized. She can barely walk, wincing in pain as Erick arrives. Erick notices the bruises immediately and gently strokes the angry red welts. Lidia tries to restrain him from doing anything rash, gently speaking to him as both end up in tears in a loving, embracing hug.

Diana and Charly are in bed ostensibly alone, but there are actually three people present. At least emotionally. While we see Diana’s blonde visage, Charly sees only Yameli. As Diana mercifully does not share the same vision, that secret is safe for the moment. Diana rewards him with breakfast in bed. They start a conversation that quickly deteriorates, Charly’s still painful wound reminding him he came close to losing his life. Charly seems to put Diana down and assert his place as the head of the family Their conversation seems crucial to this episode but I could not translate it. If anyone can shed some light on this, please do so.

Vanessa and her friends end up a dance party, initially looking less than thrilled. Drugs are changing hands and their companion offers both girls a little green pill.

Diana shows up at Alberto’s. Coincidentally, there is a bottle of wine and two glasses. Was it for her or was it for whoever happened to show up? Alberto clicks away and Diana tries to pose but clearly, her heart isn’t in it. He finally gets the start of a smile but she is obviously blue. A bit of red wine seems to lift her spirits a bit. He is laying on the flattery with a trowel but recalling her words with Charly, she retreats a bit.

I assume Vanesa took the pill as she is happily dancing by herself. Uhh oh. Vanesa has gotten a gander of Chris and she likes what she sees. They talk and she teases him.

Charly shows up at Yameli’s, drunk as a skunk. Now the entire family inbibing one drug of choice or another is high. He is grinning like an idiot, inebriated beyond belief. He is babbling and invading her personal space. She evades his octopus embrace and rancid breath as he complains about his wife and then Monchis which finally piques her interest but the topic quickly turns to Vanesa.

Alberto puts the pressure on, getting Diana to sit next to him as he raves about her pictures. And here it is – a kiss that takes but minutes to ignite into passion. There is more post coital talk than afterglow.

At another home, Yameli is offering her unwelcome house guest strong coffee. He seems a bit more lucid and talks about Vanesa as we watch Vanesa dancing still stoned out of her mind. Then, she goes to the car – is the fresh air helping?

REINA Part 2

A Family In Crisis

Vanesa and her friend are driving and BAM, they are in an accident! The impact was significant as Vanesa is slumped over. We see whiffs of white smoke…

Back to Yameli. Jack calls and is not happy Charly is there. Before Jack calls however, Yameli and Charly almost kiss. While Yameli tries to end the call with Jack, Charly wanders. He enters the room where Charly’s reader board is on display in all its not so great glory. He is in shock as Yameli trips over her words, trying for some type of explanation. Despite the obvious, what his eyes are clearly conveying to his brain, Charly’s massive ego takes over as he says she is obsessed with him. His expression changes and he starts singing. He kisses her and correct me if I’m wrong but after a second or so, it looks like she is really getting into the kiss. Saved by the call that Vanesa was in an accident. He and Yameli head out. Diana head out alone.

Jack watches form his car as he likely ponders that there is severe emotional turmoil ahead. Little does he know the torment has already begun.

Diana

REINA

Each successive episode is getting more difficult for me.

But I have to say I was shocked Charly found Yameli's "homage" to him. Give the actor credit - you could see his shock and almost horror at first, slowly replaced by the misapprehension this was in effect a shrine to him.

I really also thought that for a moment, Yameli "lost" herself in Charly, beyond any rationale. What would have happened if the phone hadn't rung? I could hardly believe my eyes but perhaps she fooled me as much as Charly.

A pivotal episode.

Til tomorrow - Diana

REINA

You were on fire with this one Diana. Powerful writing. Like this:

The file is now in Monchi’s blood-stained hands

He’s laying on the flattery with a trowel

She evades his octopus embrace and his rancid breath

A kiss that takes but moments to ignite into passion

This recap really had a punch. Too bad you can’t quit your day job and write full-time. I can see you spinning out mysteries or dishing up bodice rippers. “Work from home”! As the ads say.
Thanks amiga Mia. Sounds like I don’t want to miss this pivotal episode.

REINA-SOY

Diana, another superb recap! Thank you! JudyB already outlined most of my favorite lines; I would like to add--

"...While we see Diana’s blonde visage, Charly sees only Yameli. As Diana mercifully does not share the same vision, that secret is safe for the moment." Beautifully written! I am SO enjoying your writing, thank you for sharing your time and talent.

In the call with Ben, Yameli informed him of the concert Charly wants to set up ASAP; she is sure Monchis is behind it and alerts Ben that it could be their opportunity to catch Monchis.

The scene with Erick and Lidia was quite moving--good performance by both actors. Erick wanted to go confront Monchis about what he did to Lidia, but Lidia begged him to stay away from Monchis..just as she plans to do the same. She was also pleading with Erick to stop his search for his parents. If he stops asking questions, she promises to help him find his bio parents.

Charly were verbally brutal with Diana since she knew all along about Vanesa's modeling. He thinks Diana wants Vanesa to fulfill her (Diana's) own dream of becoming a model. He puts her down cruelly telling her that she didn't have a chance because she was so bad at it and looked pitiful. later, when Charly was with Yameli, he shared the real reason why he doesn't wants Vanesa to model; he thinks Vanesa will have the same fate as Diana did. Apparently, Diana got hooked on pills to lose weight and to help her deal with the stresses of modeling, Charly is afraid the same thing will happen to Vanesa. Little does he know that Vanesa is already heading down that road.

At the dance party, Vanesa did seem to be taken by Chris, but she ended up insulting him as she was leaving. She told him he was second rate and he would never make it in the music business.

Diana, "Yameli "lost" herself in Charly, beyond any rationale." It sure looked like that to me too. She did try to stop herself at first, but then she really let go. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if the phone hadn't wrung.

SILVIA

Got in late tonight. The recap will be up tomorrow morning.

SILVIA

Emilio Azcárraga Milmo was the son of Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta, the creator of Televisa (first XEW, then Telesistema Mexicano, and then Televisa), it is said that the reason he ended up with Silvia was because his family forced him, not for lack of love, but because he could not give up being the heir of the emporium. This was mentioned in chapter 7 very subtly, when the father meets him and Silvia's friend tells her that she heard them arguing.

REINA

Judy, thank you for your always uplifting support and comments. With only two hours of sleep last night, your comments made me feel refreshed. Bless you. I would dearly love to write full time - I can always dream :)

Rgv Chick, thank you for providing important details in your always excellent fashion. I had no idea about Diana's past modeling aspirations! And yes, sadly the ship has sailed on Vanesa's chances of being drug free.

I wonder if Lidia is sincere in that she will actually help Erick??

And yes, I do remember a snitty Vanessa saying something to Chris but I didn't realize it was such a put down.

I'm still struggling to comprehend Yameli's reaction (and action) to Charly. I would think being jailed unjustly and losing a child would have given her a suit of armor. Her reaction was primal. Charly's attraction completely eludes me but...

Thank you so much for brightening up my day Judy and Rgv Chick....

Diana

"REINA":

Diana: I do NOT trust Lidia.

REINA SOY

Thank you so much, Diana, for that excellent recap. You have become part of my early morning ritual since I usually cannot sleep past 6 a.m. I do worry about you not getting enough sleep. Your health comes first. Thanks also for filling in some details, Chickie . You two are a great duo. I wish that I could meet you both and share some real time instead of just cyber time.

I only understand a few words ..like "largete." But Yami did seem ready to kiss Charly. Ugh. I also figured out that narcissistic Charly thought that wall of his photos was a Yami' s obsession board . Is that arm of tattoos real? A lot happened last nigbt. Now where is this heading?

SYLVIA
I was confused about the new guy. Were they married ? Did he die in a plane crash? He seemed to be the love of her life. Why do we never see her daughter? Is the dark haired woman her assistant? I am trying to figure out where I have seen her before. She always seems so cheerful. Sylvia 's many affairs make me think of Liz Taylor. . Beautiful , rich, and famous but tragic.

Sunny and 80 here.

Tquir, thanks for the info about Emilio and his connection to Televisa and with the origins of Televisa itself.

REINA

Susanlynn, I so appreciate your kindness. I must admit sleep has been elusive.

I think we are all in agreement that Yameli is treading on thin ice. And Charly's vanity has surpassed new heights.

Those tats certainly look real. I keep thinking that is an odd shirt he has on, continually forgetting about it :)

Diana

SYLVIA

Susanlynn, I can't answer as to who the man is that died last night. She was certainly heartbroken. I am sure Jarifa's recap will answer our questions...

Yes, it has been bugging me as to where I've seen her friend before. Recently but I can't for the life of me remember.

Diana

REINA-SOY

Diana, I do hope you take of yourself and get some much need sleep tonight. I remember having those sleepless nights and having to go to work the next morning...lots of coffee and chocolate helped me make it through the day.

I forgot to mention that Peralta is safe...for now. When Tono gave Monchis the file, Monchis asked him if he had shut the man up permanently. Tono replied that he hadn't because when they got to Peralta's apartment, it had been cleared out.

Also, at the beginning when Diana and Charly were arguing in their bedroom, Diana was trying to get Charly to take more time off from work to recuperate, but Charly insisted that he has to work and make some money. they are running out of money because he put much of it into the recording studio and his last album didn't fare well. Diana suggested that they get money fromt heir investments, but NOPIS! that is long gone!

Hoppy Thursday to all!

SILVIA

Susanlynn, I'll give you some quickie answers to your questions since Jarifa is probably still working on her minicap.

Enrique "El Guero" was a successful businessman and he was married, but was getting a divorce. He was Silvia's love of her life, but he died in a plane crash on the day she was performing a show with a dance routine. I must admire Silvia's strength and resolve to finish her performance after being told that Enrique had died. She went right back on stage and finished her performance because she had promised Enrique that she would be dancing for him.

The dark haired lady is Silvia's loyal friend, Sonia. Another tidbit of info on Sonia--when Silvia had just arrived in Mexico City, it was Sonia who introduced her to important people since she worked at Televisa and had a very good social standing. IIRC, she was also the one who gave Silvia the idea about opening the appliance store.

SILVIA Wed #8 Wed. 6/5/19

Silvia makes a movie with her former lover Arturo de Córdova but decides to keep it all business this time and tells him so.

The wedding of the year turns out to be Emilio’s. Wes about it is plastered evruwhere is public. Silvia is still bothered by that situation and decides to bury herself in her work.

Everyone is impressed by her musical “Ring Ring” and her role as producer as well as actress.

A new man appears in Silvia’s life. He is Enrique Rodríguez Alday a business man in the wood industry. His nickname is El Güero. He meets her at a premiere and is interested in her from the start. Silvia tells the viewer she is a “fortunate woman and that life has given her beautiful things but this was the most beautiful gift: a pure love; a love that would last until death.” El Güero wants to see her the next day after they meet. Silvia has to go to Guadalajara to work. He pops up in Guadalajara to get to know her . Silvia tells the viewer how he renewed her life. El Güero’s soon to be ex wife is giving him problems. He also has a daughter. Silvia can commiserate. She knows how hard that situation can be. She tells him to be patient, give it time and try to put himself in the other person’s shoes. Shortly, he wants to formalize his relationship with Silvia and she is in all the way..

It is 1958 and Silvia is working on the film “Una cita de amor” where the director is demanding that the actors stay on set for the entire length of filming which is two weeks. Silvia’s daughter is ill which is a problem for her,.The Director will not make an exception for her. She calls El Güero to help her go see her daughter, She manages to lower herself from the hotel room (at least once) via bedsheets and El Güero is there waiting for her. She is back at dawn. At the end of filming, the director lets her know he knew all about her escapades.

El Güero is taking flying lessons. Silvia is worried that he could end up like Pedro Infante. He says accidents happen everyday crossing the streets. He takes her flying. Later, he tells her as soon as his divorce is final, he is going to propose to her. He asks her on the spot and she says she would love to spend her life with him.

Silvia wins the best actress of 1958 in Mexico’s Ariel Awards,

El Güero is off flying to Acapulco. She says goodbye to him at the airport. Silvia reminds the viewer that is is “true that life only gives us happiness in instants.” Later that day, Silvia is performing in her musical. Emílio wants to see her in his office at the theater. He tells her that El Güero’s plane crashed and that he is dead. Silvia is floored by the news and he offers to cancel the rest of the performance. Silvia takes the “the show must go on” attitude and continues on on stage. Silvia tells the viewer that “if before she had ever touched heaven, hell was truly under her feet.” She could never had conceived the pain she was feeling.

Again, Silvia buries herself in her work. Emilio remains her steadfast friend and advises her to feel her pain and not try to evade it. That is the only way she will find peace. Silvia admits to the viewer that the “hole left by that ‘once in a lifetime love’ was never ever filled.”

Vanessa is the spitting image of her dad in the scene where she insults Chris. Notice Charly had been brutal to Diana earlier in the episode, and she did the same to Chris. If you have nothing nice to say, say nothing. She wants to become a famous model, but puts down others on their way to reach their aspirations? Let Vanessa sink in her own venom.

Yameli definitely fell for Charly already. Poor Juanjo. He deserves better. And not Wendy as consolation prize.

SILVIA

I loved the hotel escape via the bedsheets. Silvia sure has had bad luck in the love department but not professionally. Silvia was very much in demand and was cranking out one movie after another in addition to appearing in the theater as shown here.

All the comments and summaries add so much to my experience with these two TNs.

SILVIA
I continue to enjoy the vintage fashions and cars. The escape down the rope of sheets was hilarious. Silvia seems to have a "muy simpatico" personality and the ability to get along with everyone.

El Güero's loss was a real tragedy for Silvia. I was impressed with Itati's acting skill in the scene where Silvia decides to continue with the dance--dancing as a machine, I think she said. You could see the deep pain below the surface.

I, too, would like to identify Sonia, Silvia's assistant. I think she played the star's aunt in another TN, but I might be confusing her with someone else. Her name is listed as Gabriela Rivero.

SILVIA
OK, Gaby Rivero did play Angelique Boyer's Aunt Carlota in Lo Que la Vida Me Robo.

Thanks, LaPaloma, she did look familiar.

SILVIA

Another outstanding recap Jarifa.

Silvia's pain was heartbreaking. I marvel at her resilience, that she has loved so intensely and deeply, yet continues to open herself up. To love and pain.

For years, I've said "there is no everlasting happiness. There are only moments. So, I was delighted to read “true that life only gives us happiness in instants.” I could not agree more.

Thank you so much!

Diana

SILVIA

As always, loved the show and the recap both, Jarifa. Lots to admire about our Silvia, especially her grit in risking a descent via some tied up sheets. Both she and her accomplice friend must have had some serious musculature to manage that! Enjoyed the realistic flop at the bottom especially.

Ah, that pure, sweet love! Yes, that memory will always be pure and sweet because the actual romance did not have time to fade with time or turn bitter with betrayal. Not that they all do, of course, but they say that the best predictor of the future is the past, and this ardent suitor already had one bitter wife and divorce under the belt so to speak. I'm glad he did not have time to disappoint Silvia as well. She will always have that happy memory and I am glad.

Have you ever heard the song El Amor Acaba sung by JoséJosé The lyrics mention how "la caricia más divina" becomes ordinary and repetitive y "hasta la belleza cansa". Still, the early days of infatuation and passionate love are intoxicating. May she always treasure the memory of those moments.

SILVIA

Thanks, all, for stopping by the patio. Silvia is proving to be a real survivor.

Diana, very interesting philosophy you and Silvia have about “moments/instants” of happiness. It is something to think about.

JudyB, I never heard that song. Intriguing lyrics.

The lyrics were written by a woman, so that may explain the jaded, cynical cast. Quite a lovely song though, as is anything JoséJosé sings.

SILVIA

Thanks, Jarifa. I look forward to the TN and your mini-recaps each day.

I have to admit when Silvia, who I have no doubt loved with no limits, threw herself on the grave, I wondered if that was true or dramatic license.
