Scenes
combined where it made sense to do so.
Mexico
City: Sofia waited while Camila went for her tests.
Alonso
called Lourdes after breakfast to see if he could see her later to
talk. This doesn't usually mean anything good.
Adrián,
Victoria, and Roberto asked to see Alonso when he came in regarding
the case in Los Angeles. Carmen wanted to fill him in first.
Ricardo
discussed the Carlos issue with Gustavo, telling him about what he
found out from Sonia. Gustavo asked how this connected Carlos with
organized crime. They finally decided that they needed to investigate
all of Carlos' clients.
El
Gringo handed four thick stacks of little green pieces of paper to El
Chivo, enumerating what they were for. As El Chivo pocketed them,
El Gringo pulled out a high-powered black pistol and reminded him
about the penalty for betrayal. They parted company on El Chivo's
word and a handshake.
Carmen
went into Alonso's office to tell him about her sister's problem and
to promise to pay her bills. He told her not to worry about it; his
employees are family.
Ricardo
called Sofia to find out how things were going. She explained the
situation and that she was worried. She also told him she would call
Alonso later to let him know what was happening. Ricardo told her
not to worry about that and that he was sorry to hear about the
doctor's suspicions. He offered his help.
Lourdes
visited Paula to find out what happened in court. Paula explained
it, saying that she had to choose between losing her home and losing
a friend. She explained Jaime's argument of the situation, that
Gilberto had taken advantage of her grief and tricked her into
signing the contract that could have lost her her house. She still
seemed to be in shock over it all.
The
neurologist looked at the test results on his computer screen and
informed Camila and Sofia that his suspicions had been founded.
Camila had Alzheimer's Disease. She began to cry. Sofia asked what
would happen next. The doctor told them that there were medications
that could improve the quality of Camila's life. He also said that
she needed to be physically active on a daily basis and he strongly
recommended that they see a specialist and get psychological help.
Camila began crying and was nearly hysterical. Sofia asked how
serious her mother was. The doctor told her that her mother's
condition was advanced. Camila was in denial.
Carmen
brought her sister into Alonso's office. Mercedes didn't have the
documentation to go to claim Ramón's body, so Carmen had to do it.
Victoria was about to take her licensing exam and Adrián said he
would speak to the Mexican consulate in Los Angeles. Alonso assured
Carmen that the firm would cover the costs. They would be leaving
the next day.
Lourdes
told Paula that she would eventually get better. No time frame, but
someday she would wake up and feel better. Paula hated losing Alicia
as a friend but the worst of all was losing Alejandra, who had been
her reason to live. Lourdes told her she had her and Jaime and a
good heart. This was one more test in life.
Los
Angeles: At the police station the two cops looked at a
security video showing the shooting. The one who shot Ramón was
sorry about this, saying he made a mistake. His partner told him he
wasn't wrong because it looked as though Ramón would shoot at them.
He was tired of illegal immigrants and said that they had to learn to
respect the law. He told him that he was not to admit error; he was
just doing his job.
Mexico
City: Alonso assured Mercedes that they would take care of
things for her. Roberto reminded the others that this was not over
yet. Alonso had connexions and he asked Carmen to place a call for
him.
Juan
carried the TV set out to the moving van and put it on board.
Susanna brought out her Virgencita, which Juan handed to the movers,
telling them to take special care of it [I personally think he
should bring it there in his car]. Fernanda came by and saw
this. Juan explained that they were moving to a larger house in a
more secure neighborhood. The usual goodbyes for this situation were
said, with an awkward silence between Fernanda and Juan before she
turned away to go to work.
Los
Angeles: Mercedes called Erick to tell him that her sister would
be coming to Los Angeles with lawyers. He was to talk to them and
tell them the truth about what happened. He was in front of the
police station and wanted to talk to someone and she told him not to.
Which he immediately disobeyed when he ended the call and the shooter
came out of the station. Erick accused the cop of being racist and
he said he was only doing his job. That he was the law and must be
respected. Erick replied that “We are the community and your duty
is to protect us, not kill us.” The reply? “Only real citizens.
Most immigrants are delinquents.” He threatened to arrest Erick
if he didn't leave. Erick left, but not without saying he was still
going to fight this.
Mexico
City: Sofia took her mother home and opened the calendar showing
the schedule of medications and exercise. Camila asked about a nurse
because she couldn't be alone. Sofia told her she was going to
resign from the firm to stay home with her. They disagreed about
this, Camila telling Sofia that she had to live her own life.
Nancy
and Carlos seemd to be the last ones in the office and he was
preparing to leave. Once again he declined her offer to help with
his new client. He was almost out the door when he asked what she
was doing there late. She told him it was about El Gringo. They
left together.
Later
Nancy went back to the office and went through Carlos' desk. She
photographed the pages in Michelle's file, including the copy of her
ID card.
Roberto
went to Victoria's office and they went back to their Beatrice and
Benedick interactions. She did get serious about one thing, that she
didn't want any conflict on the trip to Los Angeles. She called him
out on his jealousy, which he continued to deny.
Alonso
and Lourdes ate in a truly gorgeous restaurant and she told him she
didn't know how to help Paula. He told her that her company and
friendship was what Paula needed most, as he needed her. He had
missed her when he was in Jalisco and told her he wanted her to live
with him.
Juan
and Susanna were moved in and still setting up the furniture. The
Virgencita arrived safely, as did the memory box, and Juan had bought
a large plant. He talked about having a housewarming party.
Roberto
ate with his father, who hoped that this trip would help him fix
things with Victoria.
Sofia
researched Alzheimer's on the internet and found it disturbing. She
finally closed her computer and slumped over.
Ricardo
was at the office highlighting various information on the documents
in the Ibarra file. He picked up his cell to look something up.
The
next morning Alonso explained the absence of Adrián, Victoria,
Roberto, and Carmen and that the case was pro bono.
Los
Angeles: Carmen and the lawyers met with Erick who told them
that when he got back to the car the police didn't allow him to
explain the situation. He described what happened when he
encountered the shooter. Adrián said they needed to get to the
police station and talk to someone.
Mexico
City: Marcella, the nurse Sofia hired, arrived at the house.
She handed her the calendar with the information about medications
and activity schedules. She was also to record any lapses in memory
or other similar things as they happened. Marcella told Camila that
she had cared for other patients like her and she was not to worry.
She seemed sincere and she looked mature enough to have plenty of
experience. Camila told her they would get along fine and asked her
to talk Sofia our of resigning from the firm.
Los
Angeles: Adrián, Roberto, and Victoria confronted the senior
officer on the scene. They got the same bad vibe as Erick got from
the junior officer. They pointed out that Ramón Chávez had been a
legal resident and he would have to prove that he had broken the law.
