Part 1
The Truth May Set You Free. Elsewhere. But Not Here.
Following last night’s car crash aftermath, Yameli and Charly lie motionless amid a cloud of smoke. Tonight, we realize Karina is dead as her body bag is quickly zipped. Yameli and Charly are in an ambulance, as Yameli, sporting a neck brace, calls out to Charly who does not respond.
Monchis is verbally torturing Lidia about Erick but ends up calling him so she can speak with him. Monchis circles her like a vulture as she lies through her teeth to Erick, grasping for words to explain why she is staying with Monchis. Concurrently, Rizzo has marshaled his forces who are ready to strike.
The young woman El Buho brought in to audition is “killing it”. Erick arrives late and is stopped by Juanjo. He confesses his mother was kidnapped to which Juanjo (understandably) asks if he called the police to which Erick admits no.
Monchis takes a(nother) drink as Rizzo’s troops are closing in, infiltrating the property and picking off his henchmen. Amid a hail of gunfire, Monchis and his small contingent including his prisoner Lidia try to escape. There are casualties on both sides as Monchis blasts his way out a la Bonnie and Clyde. His plans are thwarted as his car is surrounded. Monchis spins the car like an out of control top as Lidia opens the door and jumps. Monchis stops the car and is quickly captured. Monchis shoots and the officers retaliate. Yet, he lives.
Diana shows up at the hospital. Charly is out of it, not even a flutter of an eyelid to be seen. Then, the scene shifts as Yameli’s eyes quickly open wide as she tears out her IV, throws on her clothes and leaves in record time, calling Rizzo asking about Monchis arriving at police headquarters shortly thereafter.
Monchis is put in an ambulance and as Lidia thanks Rizzo who calls for a medic to look at her arm.
New singer and Erick speak – she is impressed and he doesn’t seem to mind. They are both declared winners.
Vanesa is walking the rehab grounds as Ruco sneaks up on her. She gives him the brush off and he is not pleased.
Axel comforts Diana as they try and figure out what happened. Diana checks in on Vanesa.
Erick and Juanjo are in the studio when Lidia calls, telling Erick she is all right, although she clearly is not.
Word must have gotten out as Charly’s ardent fans are cheering and waving signs at the hospital door.
Axel and Diana have a heart to heart. They clearly care about someone who has treated neither of them kindly.
Yameli looks none the worse for wear as Rizzo informs her Monchis is critical but still alive.
Erick runs home and Lidia is there with many hugs and tears of relief as she tells him her hand/arm was fractured. She fills him in as he stares horrified. His eyes fill as he asks if she is sure she is all right. Is Monchis alive he asks? Yes, but in serious condition she avers. Diana interrupts their momentary relief calling Erick saying Charly is in the hospital.

Part 2
The Truth May Set You Free. Elsewhere. But Not Here
The doctor tells Diana Charly has lost a lot of blood. Charly is awake as she kisses him. She justifies her presence and support. You are the father of my child she tells him after which he actually manages to give her a genuine smile. But then, he remembers and excitedly asks where Lari is. Diana is obviously confused, asking why is he inquiring about Lari. She calls Lari who fibs and says she is at home.
Juanjo sees the story on the news and calls Yameli upset.
Meanwhile, Lari/Yameli meets Rizzo pleading to see Monchis. Rizzo acquiesces but just for a few minutes he sternly admonishes her. As she enters the room, Yameli has a quick succession of flashbacks. First, to her parents’ murder, then to when Monchis comforted and lied to her and her grandmother. Then, to Charly betraying her, the loss of her child and finally, to her murdered friend and defender in prison. Monchis lies there silently as she sits on the bed. Monchis she calls as he begins to regain consciousness. She tells him he murdered her parents. As he struggles to open his eyes, taking off his mask and fights to speak, she reveals her identity As his face contorts with hatred, Rizzo realizes he let things go too far as the doctor is summoned.
Diana
Diana, you didn't miss a thing and the title is perfect! I am beyond impressed...thank you!!
I'm glad Rizzo allowed Yameli to go to see Monchis. If Monchis dies, I'm sure that her last words to him will resonate all the way down to hell--"I want you to remember that it was Yameli Montoya who brought you down."
More tomorrow...thank you so much, Diana!
Thanks Diana for the recap. I'm,glad Monchis was caught and knows that Yameli help put him there. Im glad Lidia is safe. Maybe her and Rizzo can find some love.
Welcome Saints505! Happy you are here with our stalwart and fun little group. I join you in being very relieved Lidia is safe. I fear she is in for much more heartache though as I suspect (no spoiler) Charly's fate will not be a happy one.
Looks like another blockbuster tonight. Will be riveted to the screen...:)
Oh, and can anyone tell me who the dark haired singer is and what TN she recently appeared in?? I can see her in my mind's eye calling someone "papi", but for the life of me, can't remember where. She reminds me a bit of Livia Brito...
Diana
Thank you for the heads up Alex!
I hadn't heard of this but this looks good. I had to look up Renata Notni and recognized her from Sueno de nightmare. I see she was also in Un gancho al corazón, a teenager at the time. Now, 10 years later she is the leading lady. A bit of an age difference between her and Rulli, right?
Diana
Does anyone know how many episodes are left? It seems as though we are hurtling toward a conclusion now that Rizzo got Monchis's gang. However, Monchis is not dead , and indeed that he will escape that hospital and cause more havoc.
I am looking forward to Dragon because I have liked Rulli since I first saw him in Passion with Fernando Colunga and William Levy. Is Dragon replacing Reina Soy?
Thank you, Diana.
The fall of Monchis is a big step towards freedom for Yamelí. It will end her jail sentence, but also make her free to seek happiness instead of vengeance if she so chooses.
"Axel and Diana have a heart to heart. They clearly care about someone who has treated neither of them kindly." Some more on this. Diana says, we need to make an announcement to Charly's fans explaining what happened. Axel: "Are you sure Charly wants it?" Diana: "Charly is in no position to decide. I have to protect him." Axel: "But the two of you can't stand each other!?" Diana: "I still love Charly and even though we separated he is still my husband, the father of my daughter. Do you think I will let him drown?! No!"
Later, Diana looked a little annoyed about Charly asking insistently about Lari. I have noticed a couple of eye-rolls.
The winners of Buho's contest were Pez Koi and Irma, el Huracán. Played by Yany Prado, who was also Génesis in "La doble vida de Estela Carrillo"
The series is about 80 episodes long. We are on episode 35.
if Monchis survives he will likely escape or can still wreak havoc while in prison.
Hi everyone.
Susanlynn, I suspect you might be Anon at 9:02...To be honest, I had no idea how many episodes are left so thank you Lucio for providing that critical answer. So, we aren't even halfway through! 80 episodes are relatively short for a TN but this is intriguing and it seems the good ones always leave you wanting more.
As soon as we saw Monchis didn't die, we knew there would be (even more) dire consequences.
Lucio, thank you. I appreciate the information you added. I will need to remember "Irma". Wow, all the way back to Estela Carrillo? I could have sworn I saw her sooner but that's my memory. The expanded exchange between Diana and Axel is very helpful..
That said, was anyone else surprised Diana didn't immediately realize something was very wrong in Charly asking for Yameli from his not quite dead hospital bed? That seems to prove she trusts Yameli, which she will likely live to regret.
Anon at 9:24, I'm on the fence about Yameli's fate. There are few TNs that have ended without the traditional happy ending. La Malquerida was one (where Mane was also the protag) and of course Rubi, whose title character was evil to the core. I believe Dona Barbara (which I didn't see) falls into the latter category.
Diana
Lucio. thanks for adding that conversation between Diana and Axel. It's obvious that Diana is hurting much more than Charly with the separation. When he repeatedly asked for Lari, Diana was visibly annoyed; I'm surprised she didn't call him on it.
I like how Erick described his song; he said it was about family...who can give us the most sincere love yet the most profound pain. Whoever is writing the songs for each critical event is quite gifted. That is what I enjoy most about this TN..the way the songs are related to the different situations. I don't think I've ever seen a TN that has done that so well.
Susanlynn and Anon 9:24, I was really surprised when Monchis was taken down and flatlined so early on in the show. Both of you may be right, Monchis will probably survive, but if he does, I'm sure he'd want to get word to Charly of Yamelli's true identity...so may be there is hope that he will die after all.
Diana, our comments crossed. "was anyone else surprised Diana didn't immediately realize something was very wrong in Charly asking for Yameli from his not quite dead hospital bed?" Raising my hand... :-)
Rgv Chick, I agree they made the songs fit so well in the story, become part of he story. Taking the opportunity that the show is about singers and songwriters. One other TN that fits songs well into the story is "La hija del mariachi" - one of my favorites.
Thank you Rgv Chick for pointing out the poignancy of the music. Something I would never pick up on, on my own.
I am enjoying the music and singing in this. Also, is Michelle really singing in the opening sequence (and did she sing in the first few episodes or is it being dubbed?)
Diana
Diana, from what I have the read, the songs are the original songs from the Colombian version, but they are sung by the current actors; so, yes, Michelle is singing the songs.
Interesting - thanks Rgv Chick!
We had a commenter for quite a few years who signed his name as "gringo". He always said "must see TV". Think that will apply to tonight!

Ep 36: Part 1 Just Friends
Yameli breathes deeply as Ben approaches and tell her that he had never known someone like her…so “chida” (cool/awesome). What she did was incredible. For years, Yameli had dreamed of this moment and she feels like a ton has been lifted from her shoulders. She smiles as Ben tells her she is completely free; he just needs to complete the paperwork Yameli tells him that she did everything for her family and her son. When Ben offers her a ride, she tells him that she is going to call her best friend.
Dian asks Charly what happened; so he tells her it was his uncle’s doing. When he adds that Monchis kidnapped his mother, Diana tells him that his mother is with Erick. As Charly is about to argue, Lidia walks in and tells him she is free, but it wasn’t Monchis’s doing. She then tells him how the DEA caught Monchis. Lidia asks to talk to Charly privately and tells him that Monchis confessed to her that he killed Charly’s father and he didn’t even show any remorse. Charly is flabbergasted and can’t believe how they could have lived with Monchis for so many years. Charly apologizes for not protecting Lidia from Monchis and for leaving her alone with him for 17 years. Outside the room, Dina asks Erick what is going on, but Erick prefers that Charly tell her about it. As Lidia and Charly talk, they hear the news report that Moncis has died.
At Yameli’s place Yameli tells Jianjo tha she feels relieved that Monchis won’t hurt anyone else; though she knows tha it won’t bring her family back. When he asks if getting the information the way she did was worth it, Yameli tells him ‘yes’ because that was how they caught Monchis. Juanjo then asks about Charly, so Yameli shares that Charly thinks they have a loving relationship. Just then, Charly calls Yameli and tells her that he misses her and wants to see her. Charly has heard the news about Monchis, Vanesa is about to finish up at the rahab center; so Charly thinks things are getting better. As Yameli talks, she feels uncomfortable since Juanjo is listening. As Charly hangs up, Diana enters and asks who he was talking to . Charly lies and tells her it was just an employee who was concerned about him. Diana then tells Charly that there are a lot of fans outside; so he thanks her. Back with Yameli, Juanjo congratulates her for succeeding with her mission. Yameli thanks him too since she couldn’t have done it without him. Juanjo suggests that Yameli forget about everything and start a new life, but Yameli still has to take Charly down…she has to seek justice for her family and for the Yameli whom he talks so much about and had her dreams stolen from her. After Juanjo reminds her that Yameli has always been there, they share a warm hug.
Juanoj gets home to find Wendy waiting for him. She has heard about Monchis; so now Juanjo can stop his little drama with Lari/Yameli. Juanjo doesn’t know what will happen with Lari because all of this is very odd.
Ben gives Yameli her freedom in writing. After she thanks him, Ben asks for a hug and asks what Yameli will do next. When she replies that she will continue at Luxor, Ben assumes that she still has something pending with Charly. He warns her that the DEA will be completely out now, so Yameli will have to look out for herself. (Aww, no more Ben?? Sigh)
Lidia gets ready to go to Monchis’ funeral and recalls when Monchis first brought Erick to her; she thinks that was the only good thing Monchis did. When she tells Erick that he doesn’t have to go to the funeral, Erick replies that he doesn’t want her going alone and Monchis, after all, was his father.
Ep 36: Part 2 Just Friends
Charly gets dismissed from the hospital and walks out to be greeted by reporters. When they ask about Monchis, Charly replies that it was a tragedy, but Monchis asked for it. Once in the car, Diana asks Charly if he is going to the funeral. Charly replies, “Of course not.” When he asks if he should take her to her house, Diana is surprised since Charly still needs care and she thought he would want to spend time with her and Vanessa. Charly bluntly tells her that she is wrong… he does want to spend time with Vanessa, but not with Diana…and he as someone to take care of him… Axel, of course!
There is a funeral procession with music for Monchis. Lidia feels that everything is so surreal. When Erick asks if Lidia misses Monchis, Lidia assures him that she doesn’t, but she finds it hard to be happy that Monchis is dead. Erick feels the same way. Lidia then comments about the number of people that showed up to the funeral, so Erick reminds her that Monchis gave lots of people jobs….though the jobs were for the wrong reasons. As they place the coffin in the mausoleum, Lidia regrets that her Adalberto will have to lie eternally beside his murderer.
Wedding day for Juanjo and Wendy—Yameli arrives in her red dress and tells Juanjo he looks very handsome; he returns the compliment and asks to talk to her alone. As Wendy has her pictures taken, Juanjo tells Yameli that he needs to tell Wendy who she really is; he doesn’t want to start his marriage with lies…it’s not right and he feels bad. Yameli wants to talk to Wendy later, but Juanjo insists that he needs to tell her now. Wendy approaches so Yameli starts to explain, but Wendy thinks they have something going. Juanjo denies it and asks if she remembers Yameli. Of course Wendy remembers her; she was her friend. When Yameli confesses who she really is, Wendy asks Juanjo how long he has known about it. After he tells her that he has known for quite some, Wendy gets pissy and tells him to go to hell as she walks off. Pati wonders what is happening; so Juanjo asks her to tell the priest that they are postponing the wedding for an hour.
Once home, Lidia asks Erick not to keep from doing what he wants to do; he should go to Juanjo’s wedding. Erick doesn’t want to leave her alone, but after Lidia insists, he decides to go.
Juanjo goes in to talk to Wendy and tries to put his hands on her shoulders, but she doesn’t want him to touch her. He knows this is difficult for Wendy, but he couldn’t lie anymore. He didn’t want to start their marriage with lies. When Juanjo reminds her that Yameli was their friend, Wendy retorts that Yameli was the love of his life; what he feels for her doesn’t compare to what he feels for Yameli. Juanjo insists that everything is in the past. When Wendy asks if he still loves Yameli, he admits that he does and he will love her for the rest of his life…as the friend that she is. He will wait outside so that Wendy can decide what she wants to do; he just asks that she remember how much they have loved each other.
Diana meets with her lawyer who advises her that the divorce process will take long. They also have to consider custody of Vanessa. When the lawyer mentions the house, Dian insists that she will keep the house…but she isn’t sure she wants to continue living there. When he sees her cry, the lawyer asks Diana if she is sure she wants to continue with everything…usually in cases like this, when the fighting stops, there comes a time of doubt. Diana has always forgiven Charly but she isn’t sure if Charly would want to reconsider. The lawyer advises her to try to talk to him and try to resolve things because once the process starts, things get more difficult. He speaks from experience since he is divorced and has had to spend a lot of money in therapy for his children.
Ep 36: Part 3 Just Friends
Charly visits Lidia who tells him that she feels strange--in a way she feels free, but then her life has changed so much. Charly assures her that she will be fine; then he wonders why she went to the funeral since Monchis made their lives miserable. Lidia advises him not to keep all that resentment in his heart because life is short. When she asks about his marriage, Charly replies that his marriage is deader than Monchis. Diana and he have taken different roads and they have changed so much. Lidia advises that whatever they decide to do, they should keep Vanessa in mind since she will be the one to suffer the consequences.
At the rehab center, Ruco and Vanessa talk. Vanessa wants to change for the better. When Ruco tells her that he adores her and that she never wanted to come to a place like this, Vanesa responds that she thinks she needs to be in this place. If he isn’t going to help her, then he should leave her alone.
Wendy’s mother questions why the ceremony has been postponed. Juanjo tells her that Wendy just needs some time because she doesn’t feel well. Meanwhile, Yameli goes in to talk to Wendy and tells her that Juanjo has nothing to do with her. Wendy points out that Juanjo has been lying for quite some time. When Yameli explains that Juanjo was only trying to protect Wendy, Wendy thinks that Yameli was the one Juanjo wanted to protect because when Yameli shows up, Wendy feels that she doesn’t matter. Yameli insists that Juanjo loves Wendy and is going to marry her, but Wendy knows that there has always been a special connection between them…Yameli has no idea what Juanjo went through when she was in jail . Yameli doesn’t deny that they have a special connection, but it is a friendship. Nothing has happened and nothing will happem…she swears.
Juano is inside the church waiting for Wendy. She finally shows up with her mother at her side. The wedding continues.
Erick and Serg are at the radio station when they hear Irma singing. Serg enjoys what he sees. Erick thinks that aside from being pretty, Irma is very talented. As Serg talks, Erick is oblivious s to what he is saying since he is totally smitten by Irma who swings her hips and smiles at him as she sings.
Charly leaves the building when Axel approaches only to be scolded by Charly because he is late. As they get into the car and leave, someone (Toño??) is watching them.
The priest declares Juanjo and Wendy man and wife. Yameli half-smiles as the couple walk out of the church followed by the guests.
Thank you, Rgv Chick.
It is unfair to Wendy to reveal that Lari is Yamelí 5 minutes before the wedding. Cancelling now would be too drastic and Wendy is forced into a difficult position without having time to evaluate the situation.
Outstanding Rgv Chick. "Just Friends" indeed, a dash of vocabulary and smooth as silk writing from start to finish.
"After Juanjo reminds her that Yameli has always been there, they share a warm hug". I believe there is love at the core but flows from different places. Juanjo's memory of what wasn't and what might have been from the past. Yameli's too late dawning that she picked the wrong man all those years ago. They are best as friends. Yet, she wants to pick up the shards of her life and the temptation to turn to someone who does and has always loved her may be overwhelming.
I want to cut and paste the entire summary but let's start with "Yameli breathes deeply as Ben approaches and tell her that he had never known someone like her…so “chida” (cool/awesome). What she did was incredible". I've felt Ben was cold and rather obsessed with finding justice no matter who is in the way. It was nice to see a human side to him. I'm sorry that he and Jack, two of the more interesting characters will be seen no longer.
"Nothing has happened and nothing will happen…she swears". And I believe in the moment, Yameli does mean it.
"When Erick asks if Lidia misses Monchis, Lidia assures him that she doesn’t, but she finds it hard to be happy that Monchis is dead" and "Charly replies that his marriage is deader than Monchis". Perhaps too cynical after more than a decade of TN viewing but can these statements signal anything other than Monchis still lives?
White wedding blues. A new beginning while the past tries to be reconciled. What will be next??
Rgv Chick, thank you - this was wonderful.
Diana
Lucio, "It is unfair to Wendy to reveal that Lari is Yamelí 5 minutes before the wedding." You are so right! Despite all his excuses, I think Juanjo really wanted Wendy to call off the Wedding since he didn't have the nerve (to put it mildly) to do it himself (coward!)
Lucio- I agree with you. Juanjo should have leveled with Wendy a long time ago. I was surprised she went on with the wedding...
Diana
Diana, our comments cross once moer. Loved this--"I believe there is love at the core but flows from different places. Juanjo's memory of what wasn't and what might have been from the past. Yameli's too late dawning that she picked the wrong man all those years ago. They are best as friends. Yet, she wants to pick up the shards of her life and the temptation to turn to someone who does and has always loved her may be overwhelming." I admire your insight and your eloquence in communicating it. Thank You!
Rgv Chick, thank you for your kind words. But the truth is I am only reacting to the events you relay so carefully and beautifully.
This show is such a gem and am only sorry more aren't watching.
I don't believe for a minute Monchis is dead (speculation only)...I also thought it was Tono watching Charly and why would he be if his boss was dead? Monchis is the devil and only the good die young. Will he be manipulating and destroying behind the curtain like an evil wizard of Oz?
Diana
Diana, I always love to read your insightful comments.
Add me to the list of those who don't believe that Monchis is dead, but now could be pull that off in the hospital. Did he bribe a doctor ?
I,too, thought that telling Wendy that Lari was actually Yami right before the wedding was bizarre . Maybe Juanjo was hoping that she would call the wedding off.
