Reina del Sur 2
Thanks for the scheduling updates! I am up for a recap Fri night if that’s ok. Buenas noches!

I can't wait to get started watching La Reina del Sur. I hate narco-novelas but somehow I loved RDS #1, even though they killed off Ivan Sanchez.

reina-sur2

blockhead, I'm really glad that you'll be able to do this Friday's recap!

reina-sur2

Jarifa, thanks very much for checking the scene with FLEM standing in a room with a woman in a bed. I'm glad to know the woman was indeed Teresa.

reina-sur2

I'll be on vacation next week, mostly in CA spending time with family, so I won't be available for any recaps.

Blockhead, thanks so much for recapping tonight. I will be watching and looking forward to a recap.

Novelera

Have a blast while on vacation! Enjoy yourself and being with family!!!

Reina del sur 2 Friday recap Part 1

After a long futbol delay, Teresa, Epifano and Alejandro meet to arrange the end game. Alejandro wants a run through of the game plan. At 1:05 Teresa says they will be able to arrest Zurdo and deliver Sofia. Teresa says she will arrive at a pre-arranged location in a helicopter to get her daughter. She has provided them with the address of Zurdo's ranch and a map to his bunker. Teresa has had enough of Alejandro and lets him know it in no uncertain terms. Once this job is done, she is out.
La Conejo and Sheila are packing, and they are both sad about the job ending and parting ways. Sheila teases her about her crush on Ray though Conejo seems sad about it. Sheila laments leaving Batman. Conejo is heartbroken over leaving Teresa and the lonely life that awaits her. They make plans for their life and talk about maybe staying together.
Paloma and Rocio talk in their room, they are both confused over their men. Paloma reminds Rocio that Faustino is a narco and tries again to turn her against him. Rocio is torn. Paloma says she understands why Ray is undecided to commit to her, as she says this Ray knocks on the door to say Teresa is waiting for them. Rocio calls him out for what he's doing with Paloma. I love Rocio's gumption. She challenges him on everything he's done (and not done). Ray plays dumb and Rocio rips him up one side and down the other over Jimena. Ray tries to make nice with Paloma but she brushes him off.
Epifanio, Alejandro and Lupo meet at an outdoor meeting place. They ask him how he's going to disappear and Lupo tells them that's his problem. They give him a payment and Lupo drives off. Epifanio says he doesn't trust Lupo but Alejandro assures him Lupo's in it for the money and he'll complete the job. If not, Alejandro will find someone to wipe Lupo off of the map.
At Zurdo's ranch, Zurdo torments one of his henchmen for telling the police some information before putting a hood on him and...shooting into the air. Just when the guy thinks he's getting mercy THEN Zurdo and others shoot him full of holes. Zurdo tells Lencho not to let Teresa find out about this so that Teresa will keep trusting him, and that all his men are kept in line.
Teresa gets the gang together for one last meeting to see that everyone has made their future plans. Teresa will be on a flight with Sofia to their hiding place and Cayetana will be on a flight back to Spain. Anyone who wants to go back to Spain needs to be on the same flight. Ahmed asks if there's any other option, being with La Abuela for so long doesn't sound good to him. Ahmed says he's going back to Morocco, since he has no ties in Mexico or Spain (we're looking at you, Sheila). Sheila is torn on what to do, but she's got a 24 hr deadline. Conejo is going with Teresa and Sofia! Rocio has to talk to Faustino and make a decision and Paloma has no idea what she's doing (as usual). Teresa tells her she can go with her if she wants to. Ray says things should be better in DC so he plans to go back to his mother and Teresa has to tell him to have a talk with Paloma. Teresa gives them a final loving thank you. This is so sad!

Reina del sur 2 Friday recap Part 2
Alejandro calls Danilo from another outdoor meeting place and tells him to arrange a press conference for a special announcement from the current president and where Epifano is going to appear. Alejandro starts ordering him around and won't give him any details. Danilo agrees but then hangs up on him. A General (General Rodriguez Quiroga) arrives and Alejandro offers him a cabinet position for his help in rounding up Zurdo. Alejandro gives him the details and they shake on it.
Oleg and Teresa finalize details for setting up Zurdo. A helicopter will be waiting for her, piloted by Jonathan. Oleg won't be there when Teresa is reunited with Sofia. Teresa thanks him for everything. She's going to Australia! Oleg asks about Lupo/Francesco and she says he's either going with them or they say goodbye.
Alejandro is further instructing the general and sells him on the idea that he'll be a hero. He instructs him to tell the president that Zurdo admits to financing Mariano Bravo. The general scoffs at passing on unproven information but Alejandro assures him it will be proven when they extract all the info from the bunker.
Lupo and Teresa are at the beach. She tells him she's getting Sofia back. She tells him she's going to disappear and she's not going to Europe. She asks him if he'd like to disappear with them. (Well, since you put it THAT way...) She takes his silence for a negative, so she tells him it's ok and he doesn't have to justify anything. So they decide to say goodbye. With a tequila.
Rocio and Sanchez Godoy are out to eat. She told him she's leaving with Teresa and doesn't know when she'll be back. She's acting nervous and evasive and he says so but she tells him not to insist. He gets down on his knees and proposes! She's delighted at first, but then reality sets in and she says she can't. He asks her one more time and she is frozen in thought.
Paloma is in her room when Ray shows up. She asks him about Jimena and Ray tells her he only wants to be with Paloma. They kiss.
Manuela. Now she's at the meeting place with Alejandro. She asks what they're doing with the money she stole from Teresa, he tells her it's for the campaign. Alejandro tells her the most important day is at hand and he doesn't trust Lupo.
Until next time!
Per the commercial La Reina regresa Julio 8!!
How did they know you’d be on vaca Novelera?! Enjoy!

reina-sur2, telemundo

Have a great time, novelera! You picked a good time to be away. As far as I can tell from Zap2It, there will be NO NOVELAS at all this coming week!! On Tuesday and Wednesday, there's fútbol, and on the other three days Telemundo is showing movies. Do they really think we want to see The Amazing Spider-Man2 rather than La Reina del Sur 2? Arrgh.

reina-sur2

Thanks VERY much, blockhead, for another terrific recap. I saw that you already had it up when I posted my message before this one, but I wanted to see the episode before reading the recap, and since I'm on the West Coast, it hadn't started yet.

I loved your "After a long fútbol delay...." And now, alas, we're apparently going to have a full week's delay. I can understand Telemundo's preempting the novelas this coming Tuesday and Wednesday for more fútbol, but why not show the novelas on the other three days? Oh well....

A few days ago I said I understood why Teresa was feeling sympathy with Zurdo, and I was feeling it, too. Tonight's episode took care of that problem. What a sadist!

The general Alejandro was talking to didn't really seem all that enthusiastic about the plan, nor about what Ale was offering him. I wonder whether he's really going to do what Ale wants.

I loved Faustino's getting down on his knees and saying to Rocio that she probably knows what he's about to do, from having seen it in the movies. And then, when she says she can't marry him, he says that's not the answer he was expecting, so let's do the scene over again!

I suspect that we haven't seen the last of Jimena. Given that she's Carmen's granddaughter and Bebita's student, she seems too smart and too connected to the plot to be written off so quickly.

blockhead, I hope you'll be able to recap during the two remaining weeks. You do such a great job.

Reina 2
Thanks Juanita! I also loved Faustino’s proposal. Rocio’s face lights up at his antics, they are so cool together.
Good point about Jimena. She’s not one to just sit back. I wonder if she, her mom, and Carmencita have been at their house in Culiacan all this time? It was jarring when they mentioned a few episodes back that several months had gone by.
I think I can probably do the last two Friday recaps coming up. Will confirm closer to the date.

Great recap! thanks, blockhead!

What a good episode! I hate having a week off but I guess it will give me time to catch up on other shows/movies.

I loved Teresa calling Alejandro a “fresita”.

blockhead, yes! It was so sad seeing Teresa starting to saying goodbye to Oleg and the gang.

Juanita, you and me both are having misgivings about the General, I wonder whose payroll he might be on. BTW, we have three weeks and one day left; gran final is 7/29.

If Rocío is smart, she will leave with Teresa. Godoy is cute but his profession isn’t.

I worry for anyone associated with Teresa who is left behind if the plan goes wrong and Zurdo is at large. His execution of the traitor was what I would expect from him.

Interesting ”behind the scenes” about the soundtrack.

Reina-sur-2

Thanks, blockhead. Awesome. Now it's all clear to me.

Conejo and Sheila were touching talking about their futures. If I got it right, they joked about becoming lovers but nixed that because neither is into women that way. Funny. I'm glad Conejo will go with Teresa. Sheila has grown feelings for Batman that she didn't expect.

Now I'm wondering what will happen to Faustino once Zurdo is captured. Will this be his downfall too? Will he get fingered by Zurdo camp as part of the betrayal since he have Teresa have a history?

Glad Danilo is fed up with Ale's superior attitude.

We have to wait a whole week for the next episode? Dang!

La Reina 2

love your recaps Blockhead, such a unique style!

great comments all!

too many goodbyes with too many shows left, makes you wonder if anyone is going anywhere.

smiley Epi and smug Ale meeting with Teresa, she has to remind Epi of his unborn child and Ale of his special friend.

I got the idea Ray was sleeping with both girls, and he was being a little too sweet with Paloma, crawling into her bed.

wondering if the guy Zurdo executed being Lencho's best buddy will influence things, Lencho is the guy in charge of the backup computer, hmm, the future flashforwards of the raid on Zurdo's bunker don't show that it self destructs.

I was thinking that the General is a good guy, he wasn't into Ale's secret meeting, or his offers, and kept his distance so the slime wouldn't drip on him, but yes, he'll do his job.

still want to see Cayetana and Carmen together.

Teresa made it clear to Rocia, not to spill to Faustino about the Zurdo plan, so he is not part of the big picture? betrayed as well?

Teresa's plan is too simple, especially since she gave up all the details: agent Alex working for the DEA is not being addressed by anyone: politician Epi pretty much stands around and smiles: terminator Manuela now has Lupo in her sights: can we count on Zurdo doing anything rational, like showing up on time.

and why does Teresa have a transmitter in her heel and why is Jonathan flying the helicopter?

reina-sur2

How very thoughtful of Telemundo to schedule their hiatus around my vacation! This will save me from binge watching episodes, something I truly hate.

Thanks SO much for the terrific recap, Blockhead! And also for volunteering for the last two Fridays.

They seemed to be saying that the General would be a cabinet level head of the Department of Defense. Does Mexico have such a position or are they saying that for US Spanish speaking audiences who know about US cabinet positions?

Ale said that Lupo would follow through with the plan because the last of his money wouldn't be delivered until he arrived in Italy. But then he went to Agent Kira saying he doesn't trust him. This all seems odd. Teresa's only wish is to get Sofía back. So why not just let the plan play out?

The missing days in the show give my memory fits. Did they actually show Ray in bed with Jimena? I thought I remembered that. But now it seems odd he's suddenly back on Team Paloma. Anyway, if El Güero were still around, I think he'd plant a solid kick on his nephew's hindquarters.

Maybe it was discussed and I missed it, but I'm confused about Manuela's "stealing" of the money. Wasn't Teresa's plan all along to steal Zurdo's money? Ale and Manuela seem to me to be behaving as if they've somehow tricked Teresa by taking the money out of that warehouse.

Yes, the goodbye scenes were very, very sad. And Conejo's desire to have Teresa and Sofía be her family was very touching.

I think the smart thing for Rocío to do would be to take the engagement ring so as to not tip off Faustino about the Mendoza gang all disappearing when Zurdo is taken down. I've been confused all along about how much Faustino knows about the whole plan. Teresa, for sure, told Rocío to keep quiet.

reina-sur2

I had typed a whole comment and then it went up in smoke.

I just remembered what I had typed, and lost, before. The Italian actor perfectly showed his distress when Teresa asked him to join her in Australia. The look on his face! Teresa thinks he won't come because of his children in Italy and his business in Italy. But the real reason is what he told sofía. Inevitably, the child would out him as her kidnapper and the relationship could never work.
