I will do a recap Tuesday of this week.

Novelera: I'll be looking forward to seeing the recap.

reina-sur2

novelera, I'm delighted that you'll do the Tuesday recap. Am I right in assuming that
this is in response to my saying that I could do a short recap on Monday but nothing on Tuesday? If so, I'll be happy to do a short recap of tonight's episode.

reina-sur2

Hi Recappers and Commenters!

I just wanted to say thank you for all the great recaps and comments on Reina Del Sur 2. I'm on the West Coast and by the time I get computer access, you all are already on to the next episode, and I don't want to read the recaps until I watch the show. So I'm late to the party every time. But I really appreciate reading all the wonderful information and details! Like some of you, I never expected to watch a narco novela. My wife Gail started watching it while I was on vacation and when I got back, she got me to give it a chance. Now we're both hooked! It's a great show and not too much violence so I can handle it. (I leave the room when it's too much and Gail calls me back in when the bad stuff is over.) I really love Sophia's character -- what a smart, intrepid girl! And nice too. I loved her friendship with the little boy, hope he pops back up at some point. Lots of great acting all around, and high production values. It's fun hopping from one country to another. Though since my Spanish isn't that good, it makes it even harder to understand, what with all the different accents. We had been watching Dona Flor, which I liked fine, but Gail wasn't too into it. She is loving Reina del Sur. We can only manage one show at at time so we'll stick with this one for now, maybe some day I'll go back to Dona Flor. One more note -- we went out to lunch at a local Oaxacan restaurant last week that had a band playing -- and suddenly they started playing a song we recognized -- it was the Reina del Sur theme song! That was a kick. Okay, enough for now,I mainly wanted to thank the hardworking recappers and everyone who comments. Looking forward to tonight's episode!
Lynne

reina-sur2

Welcome, Lynne. It's great to hear that you and Gail are watching and enjoying La Reina del Sur2. And I loved your story about the band at the Oaxacan restaurant playing the novela's theme song!

Being on the West Coast myself, I know that the time difference can sometimes make things difficult. But please know that your comments are welcome, even about a past episode.

La Reina del Sur2 - Lunes - Parte 1 de 2

Teresa returns to the house after unsuccessfully chasing the woman who killed Willy. She's stunned to see that his body is not in the pool, it's on a poolside chaise longue. Photos are in his hand. Teresa looks at one that shows Willy and Teresa, with Jonathan (I think) in the background.

Manuela changes clothes and reports by phone: "The job is done, sir."

Jonathan has come to Teresa's house, as Willy had instructed. Teresa tells him that Willy has just been killed, a bullet in his forehead. Teresa wonders how the killer could have beaten her back to the house to remove the corpse from the pool and leave the photos. She seems to have forgotten that the killer finally got away by stealing a moto.

In Málaga, Cayetana meets with her lawyer. He tells her that the judge is likely to grant her custody of Sofia, but it would help things if Cayetana could get one of her granddaughters to testify against Teresa. The phone rings. Renate, the girl who found Sofia's note in the bottle, calls and tells Cayetana that Sofia has been kidnapped and asked Sofia to call her grandmother. Cayetana finally decides that Renate is playing childish games and hangs up. The lawyer says that he'll nonetheless notify the Mexican police.

Jonathan is very upset about Willy's death. Willy was almost like a father to him. Jonathan had the feeling that he was like the son Willy lost. Teresa says Willy told her to trust Jonathan as she trusted him; she regrets not trusting Willy sooner.

Lupo is bandaging Sofia's arm. He tells her it's not broken, but immobilizing it will help it to heal faster. Sofia hugs Lupo and thanks him for saving her. She was afraid she was going to die. "Bad girls never die," responds Lupo.

Jonathan swears that he'll find who killed Willy. Teresa leaves, and Jonathan calls someone and asks "did any of our planes land in Culiacán in the last 2 hours?"

Lupo tells Batman to contact Epifanio and let him know that Sofia is back, and that Lupo will send a video soon.

Teresa tells her crew about Willy's death. Ray is particularly upset. Teresa says she knows he was like a godfather to him Ray wants to help find the killer. Oleg tells her that he's going to double the security on Teresa. He also assures Teresa that he will get all his contacts arranged to give Zurdo the impression that she's the head of an immense network.

Manuela gets on a small plane. Jonathan is hiding in the bushes watching. He says that Willy discovered something hugely important, and he promises the dead Willy that he will find out what it was.

Teresa arrives at Zurdo's. They're planning to leave for Europe later that day. Suddenly his daughter Renate arrives. Yup, that Renate. Teresa tells them that she has a daughter, Sofia, who is Renate's age. Renate says that she has a friend named Sofia. Teresa looks stunned .Zurdo says that Renate comes up with a new imaginary friend every week.

In Mexico City, Veva announces on television that this will be her last day on the show. She is engaged to one of the candidates, Epifanio Vargas. And then who should appear but Epifanio, with flowers. Carmen is watching the show and is furious when Epifanio shows up on the program. She looks for the card that Willy had given her when he told her he could help her. She finds it and calls. Jonathan answers and tells her that Willy can't come to the phone. He's dead. Carmen is shocked.

La Reina del Sur2 - Lunes - Parte 2 de 2

Off camera (I think), Epifanio tells Veva that he'd like them to get married next week. Veva is taken aback. That's so little time.

Zurdo tells Teresa that ever since he separated from Renate's mother, Renate has had imaginary friends. She's been home-schooled, so she doesn't have many real friends. We also learn that Sanchez Godoy is going with Zurdo and Teresa to Europe.

After Sofia falls asleep, Lupo looks at her notebook. In it, Sofia said that her mother lies, that her name isn't Dantes, and she's the one who had Sofia kidnapped. Moreover, "My mother does't want to see me. She prefers Lupo. Mommy, I don't love you."

Teresa and Renate play "Little Red Riding Hood" with their hands. Renate tells her that the Big Bad Wolf has kidnapped her friend Sofia, and she has to save her. Unnerved, Teresa says she has to leave to get ready for their trip.

Having read parts of Sofia's notebook, Lupo is depressed. He sits and stares at the lake. Then he calls Teresa. When she answers, he says, "Your voice tells me that something is wrong." She explains that a friend has just died, and that as often as she has encountered death, it always disturbs her. Lupo asks whether there's anything he can do to help. Yes, says Teresa, she'd like a hug from him. He'd like that, too, but he won't be in Mexico this week. She tells him that she'll be in Italy. They could meet tomorrow in Rome. When he agrees to this, she says that perhaps she could also meet his children. After a few ums and pauses, Lupo says that unfortunately, they've left with their mother for the South. No problem, says Teresa, because she has to be in Palermo, too, so she could meet him there instead. Uh, right. He also says that he hopes Zurdo isn't also negotiating some other kind of business. Teresa assures him that Zurdo has been a gentleman with her. Moreover, no one touches her unless she wants them to. Teresa and Lupo wish each other a good trip and hang up.

Lupo is very frustrated with this new turn of events. He lets out a frustrated yell and kicks the ground. Of course, his kick turns up Sofia's notepad (which she probably used to write the note for the bottle about being kidnapped). He sees that something has left an impression. He picks up some dirt and tries to make the impression clearer.( All I could see was a blank white page. I don't know whether he saw more.)

Alejandro goes at night to meet someone. I assumed it was the guy who was trying to blackmail him with photos of him and Danilo kissing. Oops, wrong again. He meets with Manuela, a.k.a Agent Kira, who calls him "sir" and reports that the mission was successful. Alejandro says that Willy had to be gotten out of the way or their mission would have been ruined. Manuela tells him, "It was a pleasure for me to work with one of our best agents."

"REINA SUR":

Juanita: Does Teresa have any allies to help her out ? Has her daughter been rescued yet ?

Lynne, great to see you on the patio here. Don’t be a stranger. Wow! Hearing the theme song at a restaurant.

Juanita, thank you for your comprehensive and fabulous recap that sorted it all out so well especially for people like me who often do more listening than watching. I am usually doing a couple of things at once . . . except when I am recapping. : (

Anyway, Another packed episode.

Yes, Oleg! Teresa needs her security increased.

This is all starting to stink to high heaven with Manuela telling Alejandro that it was a pleasure to work with one of their best agents. Exactly who is who here? Carmen should get out of town and take a long trip.

I loved El Zurdo’s shirt. I want one just like it.

Poor Teresa getting her interest piqued with the mention of a Sofía/lobo from Renata who she really couldn’t ask more questions to.

Lupo has it bad for Teresa and clearly wants the family that would come with her.

Can’t wait for tonight.

La Reina 2

thanks so much Juanita for the wonderful recap!

and thanks for the info on the pics that Teresa found on Willy, I think they came to the conclusion that everyone associated with Teresa is at risk, (as we all look at Jonathan).

Renata sure was a twist, kept waiting for her to let slip Sofia's last name, loved the painted hands telling a story.

hmm, so an earlier conversation takes us back to where agent Alex put into motion Epi's release from prison and his run for president.

reina-sur2

Many thanks, Jarifa and deb, for your great comments.

Jarifa, yes, I hope Carmen listens to you about getting out of town and taking a long trip. I doubt, however, that she will. :-)

deb, thanks for mention of the role Ale had in Epi's release from prison and his run for the presidency. I'd forgotten about that. But is Ale working for the DEA? Is the DEA (or parts of it) so corrupt that it wants Epi to become president? And does Manuela's remark at the end mean that Alejandro is a DEA agent? Questions, questions, questions.

BTW, I was miffed to see that I missed an obvious typo in parte 1 of my recap. In mentioning Renate's phone call to Cayetana, I apparently wrote that Renate "tells Cayetana that Sofia has been kidnapped and asked Sofia to call her grandmother." Clearly, I meant that she asked Renate to call. And a bit further on, in the paragraph about Teresa telling her crew about Willy's death, there should be a period between "godfather to him" and "Ray".

La Reina 2

thanks Juanita!

yes, I wasn't sure who Alex is an agent of,

but from a DEA standpoint, Epi is no longer a narco ?? and the plan includes taking out Zurdo and dismantling his cartel, but this is complicated in that it was Cayetana that sniffed out Teresa, and then Manuela that tried to kill her, but maybe the Teresa part is just an add on done later by Epi, so then maybe Manuela can't kill Teresa now, until after she takes down Zurdo.

and Willy was a problem because he was going after who killed the priest, which would lead back to Alex.

La Reina 2

oh, and it was Sheldon (the DEA boss) that told Manuela to take care of Willy, but then Manuela uses the name Kira with Alex.

reina-sur2

deb, Manuela was also called "Agent Kira" by the DEA boss who gave her the assignment to get rid of Willy. And the flash drive that Jonathan found in the safe deposit box was marked KIRA. So at least in some circles of the DEA, she is known as Agent Kira. But Jonathan didn't know that, even though he's with the DEA, nor I think did Willy. And last night's episode would seem to suggest that Alejandro is also a DEA agent, "one of our best agents," said Manuela in praising him. ????

One sort of off-topic piece of, um, information. I did a search for "Agent Kira" on Google, trying to find the mentions in our recaps. Most of the first hits were to porn sites and porn folks, one or more of whom is apparently known as Agent Kira! I wonder whether the writers knew this. :-)

reina-sur2

Thanks SO much for the fine recap, Juanita.

I had a “come onnnn” moment when the Renata who found the message in the bottle turned out to be Zurdo’s kid. And I guess it’s not much fun being the child of a narco. The little girl has to have school at home. And, I maybe remember a guard at the beach where the snotty mother was hanging out. Zurdo mentioned guards for his child. If I do remember seeing a guard at the beach, I probably assumed rich, entitled people go to the beach with them.

So what happened to Teresa’s demand that they send her a video of Sofía today? This demand seems to have been lost in the flurry of getting ready for Europe. I’m glad Sanchez-Godoy is going as well. The guy perks up every scene he’s in.

Yep, Lupo/Francesco is on the way to a big rehabilitation. When reading Sofía’s renouncing of her mother and knowing it was the kidnapping that ruined the loving relationship between mother and daughter, he looked stricken. So, what’s going to happen when he rushes off to Rome?

Well, Manuela flat out said that Alejandro is a DEA agent. It might be that Sheldon is the corrupt one and has told “Kira” that to keep her in line and killing the people he wants killed. I can’t see the DEA actually having an enrolled and sworn agent who is not a US citizen. And, yes, Manuela must let Teresa live – at least until she can mess up Zurdo’s empire.

reina-sur2

Many thanks, novelera, for your comments and your willingness to do tonight's recap. Should be an interesting episode!

Yes, having Renate be Zurdo's daughter was a bit much. I actually snorted my "come onnn"! And I too wonder about the video, which Teresa had presented as an urgent demand. Oh well....

LA REINA DEL SUR – MARTES – Parte 1 de 2

Oleg has brought Teresa, Rocío and Sheila to the air field where the plane is to take them to Morocco. Oleg warns them Zurdo didn’t get to where he is by being stupid and they should be very careful.

On the island near Culiacán Lupo grills Sofía about, it appears, the note he could make out from what he found on the beach. She tells him she never called Cayetana.

Jonathan meets with Carmen, her daughter (whose name I can never remember) and Jimena. He asks Jimena about her meeting with Willy. He goes on to tell them that Willy did not suffer when he was killed. He warns them to never say anything about this to anyone or they’d be in danger.

Manuela tells Alejandro about Jonathan getting to know Sergio and searching her house. She swears he wasn’t able to learn anything. He tells her he still needs her service.

On the plane, Zurdo somehow knows Teresa has a video of Sofía. He wants to see it and is offended when she isn’t handing it over, saying she met HIS daughter. Sheila saves the day, saying it was personal, Sofía showing her mother that she’s getting breasts.

Sánchez-Godoy continues to amuse and to charm Rocío (and me). He prays that the plane lands safely. Then he promises to take Rocío to see her grandmother and her nanny in a helicopter. [Rocío, I thought you were smarter than this!]

Jonathan gets some security camera pictures of Alejandro. Not sure where this was or why it matters. If anyone else knows, please chime in. The video guy gets a big bribe and a promise of more.

Edgar is gloating over the photo on his phone of Alejandro and Danilo kissing. Alejandro arrives and hands over the $50K pesos. He grills him about his perhaps having put it in the cloud. Edgar: ¿Qué? Ale tells him he’ll have this phone checked by an expert and will know if he’s sent in anywhere. Edgar is as disgusting as always, asking Ale to name his and Dani’s firstborn after him. Ale has bought Edgar’s jacket for an additional $10K pesos.

When Edgar leaves on his motorcycle, Alejandro gives Manuela the distinctive jacket with a dragon on the back.

Aboard the plane to Morocco, Zurdo politely tells Sheila another chair is more comfortable and gets the seat beside Teresa. He starts putting some moves on Teresa and then whistles. A song comes on, loud. It’s De que manera te olvido, a song I love. Zurdo is a very good singer, as we’ve seen before. After the song is over, he tells Teresa he’s not as good as Chente (Vicente Fernández, whose version of this is very, very famous), but he didn’t think it would make her sad.

She tells him that every time she boards a plane she’s afraid she’ll never see Mexico again.

Manuela boards a motorcycle wearing Edgar’s jacket and proceeds to snatch someone’s purse and fire shots (not hitting anyone) at some witnesses. They take a cell phone photo of the back of her.

LA REINA DEL SUR – MARTES – Parte 2 de 2

Alejandro meets with Lupo to give him some credit cards in the name of Francesco Belmondo to use on the trip to Italy. He asks how Lupo is going to handle Teresa’s request. Lupo says he’s going to introduce Teresa to his children. [!!! So he has some or he’s buying some actors to portray them???] Alejandro suspects that Lupo is feeling something for Teresa.

Manuela catches up with Edgar and insists he take back the jacket, even showing him a pistol. She then calls the police, saying she’s been robbed by a guy in a dragon jacket, and giving them the location. Idiot Edgar keeps racing away from the police and, oddly, pulls out a pistol briefly. They proceed to shoot him dead almost at his mother’s feet.

Danilo, in tears, calls Ale to tell him what happened. Ale comes to the scene offering comfort to them and offering to pay for the funeral. [I certainly hope what a snake this guy is will be revealed to Danilo at some point.]

Lupo calls Cayetana, who tells him some child called her about a kidnapped girl. He says he lost his phone with the numbers in it and this is probably why she got the prank call.

Lupo calls Batman and tells him to get all the bottles out of the house. He also says that Sofía has memorized a number (from the copy of the note he found) and Batman must NOT let her get her hands on his phone. Batman puts Sofía on and tells her she lied to him. He also tells her he spoke to her grandmother and that she thinks it’s a bad joke. She’s furious.

When Teresa goes to the bathroom, Zurdo tells Sheila Teresa stole his heart. She tells him that she has 30 years in her profession…as a psychiatrist [!] Sheila then goes to the bathroom and Zurdo is amazed women even go to the bathroom together in planes.

Teresa plays the video she got. Viewerville didn’t see Lupo make this. But Sofía is very cold to her mother. The video is only from the neck up. Sheila reassures Teresa that someday this will be a joke between she and her daughter.

Jonathan is at home in D.C., drinking. Manuela shows up, threatening him about Sergio. He tries to throw her out. Then they start trying choke holds on each other and, sadly, end up on the floor having sex. At least he never told her he suspects her of killing Willy.

Teresa, Zurdo, and the others on the plane arrive in Morocco. There’s an honor guard of Moroccan soldiers. She introduces Abdelkader Chaib. He tells Zurdo that before they leave for Spain he’s going to give them a “modest reception” at his palace. Zurdo: “You have a palace?” Chaib: “Two”. Zurdo is completely wowed by this whole thing, taking selfies on the way to the car.

La reina 2

another terrific recap novelera, you are so good to us!

I saw in the before scenes that Manuela talks to Alex about OUR agency.

ah, Cayetana knows Lupo as Emilio.

so Sofia hasn't revealed her earlier call to Cayetana, interesting this game they play.

Epi's daughters name is Virginia, took me awhile to capture that, she's kind of a background nothing, interesting.

ok, Jimena gave the location, her college, where the gun may have been planted, and there was Alex in the videos.

on Alex smoothing things on the Edgar death scene, loved how a black cat walked through.

Women's World Cup

REINA

Excellent recap! Thank you so much, novelera.

deb, Francesco has like “two” too many names! Funny.

I am hoping he will be “Epifanio’s” weak link in this when it all hits the fan eventually.

Best scene: El Zurdo with his music all cued up and his serenade.

Pretty slick set up and assassination of Edgar at hands of police (and not Manuela.)

Alejandro is just as ratty as the drug dealers and the new and “improved” Epifanio. Poor Danilo loving him without even having a clue to how corrupt he is.

Jonathan and Manuela together. Yuck!

On we go!

reina-sur2

Thank you, novelera.

Cayetana needs one of her granddaughters to testify against Teresa. Rocío is going to present herself as a candidate. I imagine Cayetana will try to coerce Rocío by any means possible. Carrot and stick. I don't exclude trapping Rocío and calling the police on her. Will Rocío betray Teresa?

I wonder what "Agency" Alejandro works for. Installing presidents in foreign countries is more of a job for the CIA, not the DEA.

POQUITO:

Last night was a banner episode for Bingo Card #8 -- I got both "character says name of show" AND "doctor tells family patient could die."

So yes, in case you were wondering, I DO like playing all by myself. ;}

REINA

Lucio, good comment about this seeming to be more a CIA job.

reina-sur2

Thanks very much, novelera, for another excellent recap. I confess that I had no idea about the song Zurdo sang or about Chente. In fact, only the fact that Teresa clearly knew the words told me that Zurdo hadn't written it.

When Cayetana tells Charo that the call was just a prank, Charo looked rather skeptical. That may prove important--or not. :-)

I was surprised that Jonathan seemed to open the door without even looking to see who it was. Though perhaps I missed his doing so? At any rate, given the fact that Jimena had told him that Willy was very interested in her nails, plus Willy's having asked Jonathan about Manuela's nails and then immediately told him to come see him, should have made Jonathan more wary of Manuela than he seemed to be. I found the fight turning into a rough sex scene pretty gross. And though I suspect she didn't kill him, the camera view at the end seemed to show his legs going limp, as if he were dead, or had at least lost consciousness.

Was there a date in Sofia's video? I don't remember one, but I was very tired and may have missed it. At any rate, didn't Teresa specify that it had to include the current date?

Alejandro's plan to deal with Edgar was ingenious. And his phony expressions of sympathy to Danilo and his family made me want to throw something at my TV.

reina-sur2

Juanita, I agree that Alejandro's plan for Edgar was ingenious. But it only worked because Edgar ran from the pursuing police motorcycles. If he'd just stopped right away and raised his hands, he'd probably have gone to jail. But he might have been furious at the trick and dragged Ale kicking and screaming out of the closet as revenge.

Good point about the video without a date, unless somehow we didn't see that there was one.

And, Lucio, you're so right about the CIA being more likely to interfere in foreign elections. Although I can't think of a single reason why anyone in the US would want Vargas to be Mexico's president except if money changed hands!

Also, Lucio, thanks for reminding me that Rocío might be the one being coerced to sign a statement against Teresa for the custody scheme. I've been waiting for Cayetana to reach out to Paloma la Idiota for just this thing. I think the person Rocío really wants to see is Charo.

LA REINA DEL SUR 2 #37 Wednesday 6/12/19 Part 1

Back in Washington D.C., Manuela and Jonathan are still panting and getting dressed. He offers to pay for the sex. She tells him to stay away from Sergio. He asks her what she is doing now to support herself now that she is no longer with the DEA. He asks if she is making money like this. He also asks if she has given up her stupid idea of killing Teresa. Manuela warns Jonathan again. If he approaches Sergio again, they next time they meet up, it won’t be to “have sex.”

It is party time at Chaib’s place in Morocco. As Chaib escorts Teresa’s group in, Zurdo is impressed.

At the campaign office, Alejandro talks to Danilo about his cousin. No, Danilo was not surprised with him being killed. Alejandro tells Danilo that his cousin tried to blackmail him saying he knew all about him and Danilo. So the check that Alejandro is writing now is for his funeral expenses and not for the bribe he was going to give him. Danilo is so grateful.

Back at the party, Chaib introduces Teresa and Zurdo to one of the richest and most “powerful men” in Morocco his friend Abdullah. He makes a point of saying he has invited a lot of people who want to talk about “business”. They joke about his four wives. Zurdo couldn’t put up with just one!

Rocío and Godoy leave together to go visit her granny.

Zurdo thanks Chaib for warning them about the Perna brothers. Chaib tells Teresa and Zurdo that his friend Abdullah owes him a favor and is ready to invest a big quantity of money in their venture.

Paloma is with Ray at a local clinic. She is there to get her pregnancy evaluated and to decide on having an abortion or not. She insists it is her body and her decision. She gets upset when she hears the 12 week old ferus’ Heart beat but still leaves with the abortion pills in hand.

Just Teresa and Chaib talk about other events at his home in the past with nostalgia. She thanks him for dong so much for her daughter.
She says she finds herself endebted to him one more time. Zurdo comes back around to see what they are talking about. Chaib says that Teresa trusts Zurdo to do business with. Chaib wants to know what kind of business are they talking about and how much is he going to make. Zurdo says that his partner Teresa can talk for the two of them. Teresa is suggesting a “monopoly” of the only four people who are capable of taking possession of the world market: Zurdo, Godoy, Chaib and herself.

LA REINA DEL SUR Part 2

She goes on to explain that Godoy runs the biggest cocaine production in all of South America, Zurdo takes care of the Golden Triangle including Mexico and the USA. Chaib himself produces almost all of the hashish that comes out of Africa. She, Teresa, provides transportation from point A to point B. Next, they have to go to Italy to line up the distributors. She impresses on Zurdo that they will meet the biggest buyers there. Chaib toasts to a return to good times and to the return of LA REINA DEL SUR.

At the campaign office, Epifanio is telling Alejandro that if Teresa does what she is supposed to with Zurdo, in less than a month his opponent Mario Bravo won’t have any money to run a campaign against him. Where is Lupo? Alejandro tells him he is in Italy and to see the trip as an investment and not an expenditure. Epifanio heard about Danilo’s cousin the thief getting killed. He asks if Alejandro trusts Danilo. Yes, Alejandro does. Epifanio extends his sympathies to Danilo and offers to send some flowers. Danilo excuses himself to get back to work. Epifanio is still not too sure about Danilo coming from a family of thieves. Veva comes by to see Epifanio. She is on the way to go shopping for a wedding dress; something suitable so nobody can criticize her for being too “showy”.

Godoy and Rocío have made a quick trip by helicopter to go visit Cayetana’s house. Rocío visits Charo in the kitchen. Charo tells her to be careful because the police are still looking for her. Cayetana soon discovers that she is there and wants to talk to her alone. Godoy who has not made a a good impression on Cayetana ( she wouldn’t even shake her hand when he introduced himself), leaves the room for a short time. She asks how Paloma is doing. Rocío says she is just as messed up as she Rocío is. Cayetana is really worried about Sofía and wants Rocío to testify against Teresa so she Cayetana can get custody of Sofía. Rocío makes it clear that she will not be helping. They start to argue, Godoy hears and says it is time to go. By the way, Godoy tells Cayetana that he and Rocío are novios. Cayetana cannot believe it. After Rocío leaves, Cayetana is so frustrated she knocks all of the food that Charo was preparing off the counter and onto the floor. She tells Charo to clean it up.

Alone by themselves, Teresa thanks Chaib again. He reminds her that he told her he would always be by her side to help. He says this is gong to be very lucrative. While Teresa is making an impression on the “Mexican Narco” as a strategy to get her daughter back, they are going to be making lots of money which is okay. He also tells her that things will be okay with Sofía when she is older and gives Teresa an example with his own kids.

LA REINA DEL SUR Part 3

When Zurdo rejoins them, Chaib decides to baptize Teresa’s “monopoly” venture with 100 million dollars on the table to get ti going. He asks if Zurdo is ready to do the same. Chaib knows that Tersa can double or triple the money. Teresa reiterates that she doesn’t buy one sell drugs, she just moves them. Zurdo is in. That is what he came for, right? Zurdo says he made the best business decision of his life joining up with Teresa. They all toast.

Veva is trying wedding dresses on when she is interrupted by a visit from Carmen reminding her about white dresses are to be worn only by virgins like when she married Epifanio in the church. She reminds Veva that “What God has joined together, let no man put asunder”. Veva says she can understand how Carmen feels but it is time to just say goodbye already. Carmen warns her about Epifanio and all of the promises he will make but end will up being just the same old devil as always. Veva asks Carmen to leave them in peace. Carmen isn’t planning on that.

Back in Mexico, Paloma puts one of the abortion pills in her mouth but then takes it out. Conejo comes in. It turns out Ray told Conejo all about Paloma’s visit to the clinic. Paloma reiterates that it is her body and she doesn’t want anyone to give their opinion or know. Conejo had two abortions and said nothing to her husband. She tells her how rotten her husband and mother-in-law were and how she killed them. She wasn’t sorry and isn’t sorry for what she did. Paloma can identify with that and tells her story but she still doesn’t know what to do about the baby. Conejo tells her that the baby’s father is dead and can never abuse her again. She tells her “Life is a dream, and dreams are dreams” (“La vida es sueño y los sueños sueños son”) (quote from Calderón de la Barca Spanish writer of 17th century) Conejo thinks that Paloma should at least think about since she has the opportunity to give her baby the chance to dream her own dreams. Conejo says they will be there to help out Paloma. Paloma ends up dissolving the abortion pills in the sink.

Now she has decided that she wants to do her thesis about security in Sinaloa here is Culiacán. They introduce themselves to each other. LA REINA DEL SUR Part 4

At the party, Teresa gets a call from Francesco who has just arrived in Palermo Italy. She agrees to come and see him this evening.

Veva tells Epifanio about her encounter with Carmen and all of the nasty things she said about him. He tells her to forget it. Veva can understand how humiliated Carmen is but a humiliated woman is capable of doing anything. He says when they are married and she is the First Lady, Carmen won’t be able to say anything. Veva knows she will not leave them in peace. Epifanio says she will do it either the easy way or the “ presidential way.”

Back on the island, Batman is drinking beer, belching and fishing. Lupo calls to see how Sofía is doing. Batman has her busy cleaning up around the property. Lupo says he is having dinner with Teresa. Batman says to give her his regards. Sofí makes fun of Barman not knowing how to fish since he hasn’t caught even one yet.

Cayetana gets a visit from her lawyer Rodrigo. The court has awarded her custody of Sofía without any extra testimony. Now she can get the Mexican authorities involved to help find her. She doesn’t want to hear from Charo about putting Sofía in danger with the kidnappers . It is time to get packed because Cayetana is going to Mexico herself.

Muchísimas gracias, Jarifa, for another amazing recap.

One thing struck me as I was watching the episode. As Epifanio was leaving after talking with Alejandro and Danilo, Danilo had a rather troubled or skeptical look on his face. I was surprised and am not sure what provoked that look.

I was a bit nervous when Rocio and Faustino arrived at Cayetana's house. All the doors were locked, and Faustino said something about knowing how to pick locks. I pictured his being shot by Cayetana as a burglar. Fortunately, that didn't happen, the worst he got from her were dirty looks and nasty remarks. I was really pleased with what Rocio said to her grandmother in refusing to testify against Teresa.

Well, apparently Ray isn't as smitten with Paloma as I feared. And I guess the writers realized that his becoming interested in Jimena would do more for the plot.

What does the judge's granting Cayetana custody of Sofia mean? It seems a bit strange to have done this without any input from Sofia or her mother. I remember someone explaining that now Teresa would have a chance to respond, but still....

Juanita, thanks for bringing up Danilo’s look and describing it as troubled or skeptical. I had forgotten all about it but had noticed it at the time.

The whole granting of custody of Sofía to Cayetana—a grandparent— so easily across borders seemed odd to me, too. They have no idea if Sofía really contacted anyone without seeing her. Not liking that plot line.

Yes! Rocío did not give in to Cayetana. I was glad Godoy got her out of there ASAP.

Another pregnancy, still no novela abortion, only the license to get one and tales of past ones. Almost but no cigar.

Sofía is one busy chica. Will there be another escape attempt? Poor Batman doesn’t look like he is up to the job.

Thank you, Jarifa.

"He gives her his number in case she needs anything like finding out what the best night spots are in the city" - like "El Submarino"?

"She doesn’t want to hear from Charo about putting Sofía in danger with the kidnappers" - I think she will celebrate "mission accomplished" if Sofía gets killed.

Terrific recap, Jarifa! I loved your putting in the quote from Calderon de Barca. We read some of his work in my Spanish class many years ago.

Danilo also said to Alejandro that Edgar knew he was gay from when they were children and bullied him about it.

Rocío is done with granny for sure. She was sort of stunned the old witch would have her appear before a judge when she's on wanted posters all over Malaga and would go straight to a cell after her testimony.

When, oh when will Charo ever walk out on Cayetana? She appears willing to tolerate any amount of abuse. Slap across the face, check. Special delicious soup knocked to the floor, check. Clean up said soup, check.

I can't figure out how Teresa is going to shake Zurdo in order to get to Palermo. He even walked up on her conversation with Chaib, looking a bit jealous. And, how does she get there? Telenovela Airlines, I presume.

Chaib still has a thing for Teresa. He reminded her of that night long ago that she spent with him, calling it perhaps the best night of his life. The guy is so classy it doesn't seem icky that he's reminding her she "sacrificed" herself for Fisterra. And I'm pretty sure she didn't think that was an awful night at the time.

IIRC Batman told Lupo that Sofía had decided to do an environmental project, cleaning up trash on the island. Lupo definitely does not completely trust Batman's chances against Sofía's clever tricks.

La Reina 2

you write such wonderful recaps Jarifa, as if they were the script the show was taken from!

and great comments all!

ah yes, we need to help Charo find a new job, hmm, Cayetana in Culiacan, she implies the Mexican authorities will help to recover Sofia, will we see her and Carmen having tea.

Epi the politician, pours it on for Danilo, then calls him an idiot when he walks away, so slick the way Alex told his side of the story about Edgar, he didn't have a chance to pay off the blackmail.

and Zurdo puts up his $100 million, is that the lucrative profits Chaib talks about? so it's off to Italy to meet the distributors.

Lupo's no-bottle rule is a bit lax as Batman has a beer, I'm curious about Sofia with the not quite broken arm, rounding up an interesting assortment of items.

Preso no1

"an upcoming Telemundo political thriller television series"

"Carmelo Alvarado (Erik Hayser) is a man of humble origins and firm values who, thanks to his charisma and intelligence, becomes the president of Mexico. Carmelo is accused and imprisoned unjustly for a millionaire fraud he did not commit, causing a scandal in the country."

I saw a promo for this last night.

Thanks, all, for stopping by the patio and making such insightful comments. They always give me more to think about.

deb, thanks for the info on “Preso No. 1”. I will have to keep my eyes open for the promo.

Thanks Juanita and Jarifa for your kind welcomes! Thanks again to all for the great recaps and comments.
A few thoughts...
Why is Lupo so mad at Sophia for trying to escape? He acts as if she's betraying him! For gosh sakes, you kidnapped her -- of course she'll try to escape! I'm very glad that he found her in the hole in the woods, of course. Another ordeal for poor Sophia. That girl is a fighter.
Teresa had better stop looking at her phone around Zurdo. One of these days he's going to see something he shouldn't see, or grab it away from her and find out all kinds of things she doesn't want him to know.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Zurdo fares in Morocco and Europe. So far I think he is pretty impressed by Teresa's connections.
So much good acting on this show!
