Reina del sur 2
Just saying, I will not be able to recap this Fri. I am aiming to return to recapping at the end of June.

reina-sur2

Thanks, blockhead, for letting us know. I loved the recap you did last week, and I'm looking forward to your doing more when you can.

reina-sur2

I don't have time to write a recap, but here are some of the things that happened in tonight's episode.

Willy approaches Jimena on the street. He wants to see her nails. He grabs her hands. She wants nothing to do with him. He asks her where she was last before she went home. She replies, the university. He tells her she didn't kill the priest. She walks away in one direction, Willy in the other.

Lupo continues to look for Sofia. Takes the boat and looks on the water. Nada. Epifanio calls, saying he needs to give Teresa a video of Sofia noting today's date and that she's healthy. Lupo says he can't provide one, Sofia has run off. Epifanio tells him to get Batman to help him search for her.

Batman and Sheila are having a fine time when Epifanio calls. He tells Batman to go to the island to help Lupo look for Sofia. Batman tells Sheila he has to leave but he'll drop her off first. She says she'll wait for him at his place. Batman says he's not a fool, he knows her boss wants her to find information about where Sofia is being held. He then picks Sheila up and carries her off.

Danilo is apparently part of a large family, all of whom have gathered to celebrate the mother's birthday. They wonder whether Alejandro will come. He was supposed to come last year, but he didn't show.

Sanchez Godoy, Rocio, and Teresa are at the hotel where Teresa and some of her crew are staying. SG will bring Rocio to the Bar. Teresa, now alone, rings for the elevator. When it comes, Epifanio gets out! Teresa is alarmed. Epifanio wants to go to her room to talk with her. She's furious that he's there. As she's talking with him in the hallway, we see Zurdo come down the hall. SG appears momentarily and signals to Teresa to look in that direction. She spots Zurdo when his back is turned. She then starts yelling at Epifanio, making it clear that she hates him and wants nothing to do with him. He finally leaves.

Zurdo comes down the hall and asks Teresa why she was talking to Epifanio Vargas. She tells Zurdo that she was about to take the elevator when the door opened and Epifanio got out. She talks about how much she hates Vargas, and how afraid she is that if he gets to be president, she'll never be able to return to her country, Mexico. Zurdo tells her not to worry, he's been thinking more about her proposal for becoming socios. She had proposed 50-50. He counteroffers 70-30. They proceed to argue terms, percents, what each of them brings to the partnership.

Alejandro arrives at the birthday party, bringing flowers and wine. After a while, his phone starts to buzz. He ignores it for quite a while but eventually sees that it's Epifanio calling and asks whether there's somewhere quiet where he can take the call. A young woman leads him upstairs and makes it clear that the room is very private. She sees that he's not interested, and leaves. Epifanio tells him that Sofia has escaped again. Ale assures him not to worry, a 9-year-old can't escape from the island. He'll talk more to Epifanio tomorrow.

Danilo comes into the room. They begin to kiss. One of the relatives comes up the stairs with a camera and, unseen, takes photos through the partly opened door.

Batman arrives at the island. Lupo sends him off to search in one direction while he'll take the other.

In DC, a DEA man tells someone that Willy Rangel has gone to Mexico, talked to Epifanio Vargas, and seen surveillance videos that he wasn't meant to see. The DEA man then says, "I need you to find him and take the necessary means to make him stop, permanently. Can you do this, Agent Kira?" Manuela replies, Yes sir.

Thanks, Juanita. This sure reads like a recap to me! : ) I still haven’t had a chance to see this one yet.

reina-sur2

Thank you, Juanita.

Teresa called Cayetana and informed her that the Gallegos she sent to kill her, unfortunately for them, found her. Told Cayetana that her phone was tapped. Cayetana told Teresa to expect to hear from her.

Rocío and Sanchez Godoy hear part of the conversation with Cayetana. Teresa thanks SG for all the help with the "Operation Hammock," how she can pay him back. SG says just let me romance your "stepdaughter." Teresa says it is up to you two, but no overstepping. When Teresa runs into Epifanio, SG overhears their argument about the video of her daughter.

It is the first day under new management for "El Submarino." Sheila is the hostess, Conejo and Ahmed tend the bar. Paloma is a waitress. Oleg and Ray are in the command center watching surveillance feed. Sheila and Conejo lighten up the mood of the crew and of the viewers by their comments.

REINA2

Thanks, Lucio, for the added info. Sheila and Conejo were sure back at home in their element tending to the customers at El Submarino.

So, Batman has guessed what Sheila is up to but seems content to keep that info and her to himself. Could he end up being a weak link for Epifanio?

Sofía looks like she is in shock. Here is hoping somebody finds her soon.

I loved Teresa telling Cayetana about what happened to the Perna bros.

Okay, KIRA is Manuela. This could be interesting with Willy hunting her and she hunting him.

Danilo cannot catch a break with those photo loving mischievous relatives.

No spoilers here just my imagination. I would like to see Lupo take Sofía on the run to keep her safe and Teresa join forces with Zurdo so she could do the old double cross on Epifanio and sink him one last time.

La Reina 2

thanks for the recap Juanita!

and thanks to Lucio and Jarifa for your additions and comments.

that was some crowd at the club opening, where Teresa and Zurdo came to seal the deal, he has a counter offer 70/30, she has a counter offer, she want 70% on all operations outside of the U.S., Zurdo leaves.

I can't see Teresa back into the drug business, not sure why she is pushing Zurdo so hard, she looked like she really wanted him to take the deal.

I wonder if Faustino knows the part about Teresa's deal with Epi?

I guess by the way Danny's sisters were hitting on Alex, that he came as his boss, not as his lover, so I'm not sure if his family knows he's gay, interesting that his mother has kept his bedroom the same way as when he was a kid, Alex kids him about all of the pics of men around the room, and ceiling.

since agent Kira was in Mexico and is now back without bothering Teresa, she must have this whole other thing going on, maybe infiltrating Epi's operation.

Deb, I do wonder what Godoy knows, too.

Betty en NY

last night they had the big reveal,

the board sees the true financials, V&M is broke, was seized by BAR, with Betty being the sole owner, Armando's dad becomes temporary president.

Marcela sees the nasty video sent to Betty by Ricardo, where she learns Armando was sleeping with her, Betty calls her on being with Ricardo.

Betty returns everything V&M, including the car, quits, and takes a job with Catalina in Miami.

reina-sur2

I will recap tonight, but it's likely to be short. More basketball!

reina-sur2

Thanks so much, Juanita, for putting up a short, but quite good recap. I was not up to it, watching two episodes back to back.

I also enjoyed Teresa basically threatening Cayetana.

It's really hard to comment after having watched back-to-back epis. I'm confused about what happened when.

I will say that I felt not a jot of sympathy for Siso Pernas and the sadist cousin, Telmo. But I did feel sorry for Benxamin, who all the way through demonstrated some humanity. I'm sure someone else mentioned this on Thursday but Siso was either trying to do so or just didn't care either way, but he almost ran over Ray on the way out of the warehouse.

I had been suspecting for a long time that Manuela was still working for the DEA, despite having been fired by Willy for trying to kill someone he'd put in the witness protection program.

I can't quite figure out what Eric Sheldon is up to. My first instinct is that he's dirty, perhaps getting paid off by someone in Mexico, which candidate I don't know. If he's working for Epifanio, then he'd be at cross purposes with Manuela, who wants to kill Teresa and before she has the chance to sink Zurdo. His being corrupt, at least to me, is the only reason he'd be so dead set on hustling Willy out of the DEA. Willy is good at what he does. Also, Manuela likely having killed the priest would indicate that Sheldon is helping Epifanio.

That surely was a boneheaded move by Alejandro and Danilo, kissing with the door partially open, after all those efforts to make Ale only seem like a very kindly boss. He sure is a quick liar, isn't he? When Epifanio wondered what was going on, he said that he was at a meeting with some gringos who adore mariachi.

One more thing, Manuela saw Jonathan's photo on Sergio's phone.

reina-sur2

Deb, Jarifa, I think if Godoy didn't know about Epifanio and Sofía, Teresa has to come clean now.

Novelera, I also think that the DEA boss is working for Epifanio or maybe he is working for Alejandro. And he may be the one that gave him the witness protection info on Teresa. Not sure how Manuela fits in this.

reina-sur2

I went back and read the comments of Wednesday's episode. What Sanchez-Godoy said to Rocío resonated with me. The guy with the chain saw and mask was supposed to be from a US horror movie (none of which I've EVER seen - but it's seeped into the culture). But SG had a different reaction. He said something about being from Colombia. I went right to Scarface. I've never been able to watch the scene in Scarface where someone is killed in the shower with a chainsaw. I've heard about the use of chain saws by drug traffickers on competitors or their own guys who have betrayed them. I'm pretty sure that was what Faustino was thinking about.

Reina-sur-2

Thanks, Juanita.

I'm feeling bad for Danilo. He looked so moved that Alejandro came and charmed the family. That primo sneaking the foto is a nosey busybody and will ruin everything for Danilo.
We
Novelera, I agree Manuela killed the priest. I don't know exactly why she did it, but her body is a match to my eyes for the killer.

Now as narcos go, Godoy ain't bad (not a sadist, narcissist, or blood thirsty), but nope he's not good novio material for Rocio. And I'm guessing she's a virgin.

reina-sur2

Thanks very much Jarifa, Lucio, deb, novelera, and Niecie, for your great additions and comments. I've been away all day and have only just gotten back.

Jarifa, I like your suggestion about both Batman and Lupo eventually turning against Epifanio. Both men have grown fond of Sofía, whom Epifanio seems to intend eventually to kill. Batman also suspects that Epifanio was involved in Ratas' killing Batman's family.

novelera, thanks for the info about Scarface and Sanchez Godoy's reaction to the House of Horrors. I knew nothing about the movie except that it was very violent.

I too wonder what Sanchez Godoy knows about Teresa's situation.

And if there were any doubt, I think last night's episode marks the DEA boss as dirty.

Can't wait until tonight's episode!

LA REINA DEL SUR 2 – VIERNES

We see Lupo find Sofía in that hole and she calls him the father she never had. Whoops! She’s delirious or dreaming.

We see two instances of Sofía’s message in a bottle almost working and both times foiled. One time a young man is more interested in making out with his girlfriend than seeing what’s in the bottle. Another time some entitled mom doesn’t want to hear her daughter’s talk about kidnapping.

At El Submarino Teresa and Zurdo go back and forth about the terms of their partnership. The group listens in behind. Oleg tells Ray she’ll pull it off and she mostly does. After she proves the worth of her European venture, he’ll give her 50%. But he tells her the incautaciones (seizures – of drugs by the police – I assume) are covered by Teresa. She’s going to take him to Europe to show off her network. [which she doesn’t really have; Oleg is going to have to produce miracles.]

She wants a look at Zurdo’s whole operation, but he’s playing close to the vest.

Lupo puts off the search for Sofía until there’s daylight.

We get the background of how Alejandro came to work for Epifanio. Epifanio remembers getting a visit from him and laughs about seeing Alejandro at the prison muy catrín (a dandy dressed in a suit). Epi presses him about what his real motive is in helping him become president. Epi is too cynical not to believe there’s something behind it.

Ale says he was surrounded by politicians, those who complain about the left and take from the right. [I didn’t really understand what he said that well.] He apparently told the people in his party what he thought of them, and they were intent on ruining him. He says he wanted someone different, someone who had no need to steal and would help people. [Wow! Is it possible Alejandro actually believes in Epifanio?] He goes on to say that Epifanio Vargas is his revenge.

Danilo’s cousin, Edgar, shows up at Vargas HQ saying he’s looking for work. He sucks up to Epifanio and hugs Alejandro causing him to give the guy a withering look.

Willy arrives in Culiacán and calls Teresa. He wants to meet her face to face. They agree to meet at the house she shared with El Güero. Unfortunately, Manuela is there as well and follows Willy in a taxi.

Lupo’s plan to use Batman’s drone in the daytime works. Sofía is found. Lupo plans to set her arm with a stick of wood? What?

I am SO over Paloma. After getting raped by a lower-class guy, she has the nerve to judge Rocío for having a flirt with Sanchez-Godoy.

Willy is telling Teresa about the murdered priest. He says the person who did it is the same one coming after her. Willy tries for his gun, but Manuela shoots him in the head and he falls into the pool. R.I.P Willy Rangel. After this Teresa chases Manuela through the streets for an exhaustingly long time, but she gets away.

Edgar is truly disgusting in his encounter with Alejandro in the parking garage. Says he always suspected Danilo: a este se le hace agua a la canoa. (gay). Edgar keeps calling Alejandro mi lic short for licenciado but pronounced, “lick”. Alejandro finds out Danilo doesn’t know about the blackmail. He offers him 50K pesos and will meet him at 9:00. [Methinks Danilo is about to be short one cousin.]

Reina-sur-2

Thanks, Novelera. Terrific recap. A lot happened last night.

Oh no, Willy is gone. I liked him and he would've been a big help working Zurdo.

I'm having trouble remembering Ale's dirty deeds now because I'm PO'ed about this fool cousin's blackmail. Too bad Ale won't use his smarts to join those championing LGBTQI in Mexico. Yes, goodbye, cousin.

reina-sur2

Thanks very much for this heroic recap, novelera, which you managed to do splendidly even in the face of the Warriors' loss.

I gotta say, the start of the episode really fooled me. Often I can tell when what we see is a dream or a hallucination, but this time I just felt warm and fuzzy relief. Oops!

And then there was the bottle being found...and tossed. My nerves were being to fray.

Great idea about using the drone. Whew!

As for Alejandro's feelings about Epifanio, it's really hard to believe that after all he must have seen, he can believe in him. I thought it was interesting that Epi said that what really changed his (Epi's) life was when Ale brought his sister to meet Epi in jail.

Willy's getting killed off really surprised me, though I knew he was in deep doodoo when he told Teresa that he wanted to speak to her in person rather than over the phone because he feared his phone was being tapped--and in the next breath he asks her where they should meet. Duh! Surprise, surprise, Manuela was listening. At least Willy was able to tell Teresa when he saw her that the person who killed the priest was the same one who was after her.

I laughed out loud when Paloma told Rocio that Sanchez Godoy was "old enough to be our father" and Rocio replied, "Yes, but he's not."

I think you're probably right about Danilo's upcoming loss of a relative.

reina-sur2

Thank you, novelera.

Sofía's message in a bottle seems to be working. Renata, the girl that picked up the bottle, by all indications, is going to call Cayetana. Can't wait to see where that goes.

Lupo and Sofía are getting closer every day. I think they will save each other in the future. Lupo - from any danger, including Epifanio, and Sofía may be the defender of Lupo from Teresa when she finds out the truth.

La Reina 2

thanks so much for the recap novelera, your summary was so much richer than I remember!

so glad Sofia was rescued (twice) and we didn't get to see more bugs, so how is this video for Teresa going to work if she has a broken arm.

whew, I was out of breath following Teresa around, Manuela is like out of the Terminator series, so IF she killed the priest, she is connected to Alex, (who keeps his dirty deeds close to the chest as Epi doesn't want the details).

Paloma is an interesting character (not necessarily likable) in that she walks the moral ground, but in her past has picked a real bad boy, and continues to make bad decisions, she is definitely more interested in guys than babies.

when Oleg said earlier about Rocia being on a mission, I wonder if her being with Faustino is part of the plan.

yep, throw that dirty bottle away, they seemed to be playing on that bright light across the lake where Batman figured Sofia went, but instead it appears the bottle went there.

I didn't really get Alex's motivation (and would he really tell us) but he summed it up as revenge, (and his goal is to put a narco in Los Pinos), is it that he was raised and groomed to be president that he is rebelling against or is it that he knows he can't be, since he is gay?

so Teresa is playing tough with Zurdo to gain his trust and get into the inner circle, (sounds like they are going to fake the drug business) to get details, passwords, etc, so she can totally dismantle the cartel.

reina-sur2

OK, so I put on my Sherlock Holmes deerstalker hat this morning.

Erick Sheldon of the DEA appears to me to be helping Epifanio Vargas, whether for money or some other reason we haven't yet seen.

The shapely assassin who killed Padre Anselmo brought ALEJANDRO the murder weapon, wrapped in what looked like a dinner napkin. We're 99.9% sure that was Manuela. Alejandro is Vargas'campaign manager.

Manuela either wiped prints or wore gloves, but she made sure the gun was clean so that, when Jimena stupidly picked it up, the plan to get Carmen out of the picture was set in motion.

Slimy Erick addresses Manuela as Kira. And says Willy Rangel has to be stopped because he's atando cabos (putting two and two together).

Given a golden opportunity to kill Teresa, Manuela shoots Willy instead, following orders from slimy Erick.

I'm assuming the plan to kill Teresa is off the table for now because Teresa is also supposed to be helping Epifanio Vargas become president of Mexico.

Willy said his phone might be tapped, but IIRC, he gave a vague clue about where they were to meet, specifically in case that was a fact. He said something that, I thought, only Teresa would understand. But Manuela found them, I believe, by simply grabbing that convenient second cab and following Willy to the meeting place.

novelera, thank you for your very fine recap. “Me thinks Danilo is about to be short one cousin”. Could we be so lucky? I am betting that we are.

Lucio, yes, it does seem like Sofía’s message in a bottle is going to work. I wonder if Cayetana will end up coming to Mexico. That would be a nightmare but would bring another enemy of Teresa to the immediate foreground and replace the threat of the Gallegos.

Juanita, at least this proved that drones are good for something. : )

deb, “Manuela is like out of the Terminator series.” Perfect description.

Teresa needs better security if someone could infiltrate “her” house (or any meeting place) and kill Willy. That was sloppy. She needs to sharpen her game and should be traveling with a bodyguard.

Lupo sure is a jack of all trades. He even knows how to set broken arms with a splint made of wood. It isn’t as if they are stuck in the outback with no towns for 500 miles. Oh well, who knows if a doctor would do any better.

Paloma is a twit pure and simple. It seems like she still hasn’t made up her mind about having the baby but is she waits much longer, she will be having it by default.

Can’t wait for Monday!

reina-sur2

Jarifa, I'm pretty sure they can't risk taking Sofía to a doctor, unless they can airlift in that doctor that treated her in D.F. when she got sick. They'd need a narco-doc to not listen as Sofía yelled about being kidnapped.

novelera, I love “narco doc”!!! Epifanio should have plenty of those on speed dial since they are not in the middle of nowhere.

reina-sur2

I will be unable to do a recap on Tuesday or Thursday of this week. Even on Monday or Wednesday, I could do only a short one. I hope other folks will jump in to help. I might add that there will be no novelas this coming Friday. They'll all be preempted by fútbol.

Juanita, as of now, the only day I can do this week is Wed. Oh, yes, the beginning of the fútbol season. The viewing schedule always gets complicated. when that starts.

reina-sur2

Jarifa, thanks for your message. I love your marvellous Wednesday recaps. What I'm really hoping is that some folks who haven't been recapping might be willing to give it a try on Tuesday and/or Thursday this week.

I might add that this entire month is going to be problematic for me. I'm in the delightful position of being very, very busy with things I love to do: opera, symphony, theater, etc. Usually, there aren't so many events, and they're much further apart, but not this month.

Reina 2

Juanita, you can never have too much fun in this life! : )

reina-sur2

Juanita, I can do a Tuesday recap, and a shorty on Monday should be just fine!

I'll re-post this after the week's page is up there.
