Greetings, Caraymates!

Welcome to page 2 of Primetime TNs/Series which are not being covered by recappers. Highlights, summaries, or details of scenes/episodes are encouraged (this would be a good time to practice your skills in recapping :-). As of now, Diana is providing mini-caps for LRSY and Jarifa is providing them for SPFAT, but if some brave souls would like to contribute some highlights or a mini-recap, I’m sure it would be very appreciated. TNs/series covered by this page are:
  • 8-9PM   – La Reina Soy Yo : Ep. 20-21
  • 9-10PM – Silvia Pinal: Frenti a Ti: Ep. 9-10
As with other discussion pages for more than one TN, PLEASE identify the TN you are commenting on to avoid confusion and so readers can easily find the conversations they are looking for. (You can shorten the title to one word, i.e., “Silvia”)

Discussion pages will be posted on Mondays and Thursdays at 9PM.

The Princess Sleeps…

Diana is at the hospital nurses station as Silvana’s parents join her. Yameli ligers in the background. The doctor arrives with an update and I believe imparts the news the girls tested positive for drugs. Yameli seems genuinely concerned and closes her eyes, emotion evident on her face. Jack appears briefly in the background abut quickly leaves.

A tender scene between Lidia and Erick where he shares his secret – his music, with her. She looks touched and teary eyed. He tells Lidia she is not alone. They discuss his parents – something about the possibility of his mother being in the US (?)

Charly calls Lidia with the news of the accident as she pleads with him to be calm. Erick immediately guesses Vanesa is the victim. In the hospital hall, Diana and Charly loudly play the blame game as Yameli tries to keep the peace. They continue to snipe at each other that it is not their respective faults. Perhaps they should be concentrating on their daughter but I digress.

Erick and Lidia are picked up in a taxi driven by one of Ben’s crew. Charly is at the church chapel, praying for his princess. Yameli looks unmoved even as Charly says he is guilty. She says the only thing that is important is your daughter as pure ice radiates from her eyes. Lidia and Erick arrive and comfort Diana. The doctor gives rather grave news although I cannot relate the exact diagnosis. Jack calls angrily asking why she is at the hospital as she shakes her head and gets into his waiting car. Jack is genuinely worried about her and they argue about the game plan as Yameli has enough and storms off. Jack’s face mirrors his frustration.

Charly, Diana, Erick and Lidia visit Vanesa who has a cervical collar on and as well as a nasty red facial bruise. Erick sings to her that she is not alone. Perhaps she hears him subconsciously.

The police arrive and will be investigating - Carlos Cruz’ name is mentioned.

Lidia seems to feel Yameli might be a threat to Diana and Charly. Yes, Lidia in more ways than you can imagine. Silvana’s parents appear to blame Vanesa as the discussion gets heated and the wives hold their husbands back. Yameli gets Silvana’s father’s number and makes an anonymous call.

Charly takes Yameli home and his ardor is a bit cooler but certainly not extinguished. He tells her he cares about her as she stares stonily and pulls back her head to avoid his kiss although it seemed to take considerable effort. Think of your daughter she tells him. She climbs the stairs, shaken and stirred recalling their earlier kiss, followed by Jack’s warning. She dissolves in tears. Charly picks up a picture of a younger Vanesa and sits on his daughter’s bed. Her comatose image appears on the screen as Diana sits by her side. Alberto calls Diana which she promptly ignores.

Erick has a one way conversation with someone unseen.

Yameli recalls a montage of scenes from her past, first, her younger self with Charly as they make love. Next she is caught with drugs and in jail. She receives an ultrasound and then told her baby is dead.

Yameli and Jack talk and initially appear to hug it out. The conversation interspersed with Charly, Monchis et al. quickly deteriorates and arguments ensure. Jack tells her he is returning to Miami immediately. He makes an impassioned speech, tells her he cares about her, grabs her, kisses her cheek and leaves.

Yameli dissolves in tears as she breaks down.

The recap will be up tomorrow morning some time.

REINA

Friends, this is my last recap for Reina for the immediate future. We all experience periods where things unexpectedly arise and this is such a time for me. It has been a pleasure recapping and something I truly enjoy. We can’t always do it all, and in attempting to find the balance we need, often must make the difficult choice not to do what we love most.

To all those who took the time to read and comment, thank you. I could not have done this without the marvelous Rgv Chick and Judy who gave so generously of their time to fill in so much that I missed. Thank you amigas.

Caray, Caray! is very important to me and I plan to continue to read the extraordinary recaps and comments. I am hopeful I might be able to recap a bit again in the not too far future.

I wish my recap was better tonight but this was the most difficult to date for me.

See you tomorrow.

Diana

REINA

As always, I’m amazed at what you’re able to glean through the visuals Diana. These two observations really stood out to me—

“ She (Yareli) says the only thing that is important is your daughter as pure ice radiates from her eyes.”

And

Lidia seems to feel Yameli might be a threat to Diana and Charlotte. Yes, Lidia in more ways than you can imagine.”

So on target Diana!

I’m not going to watch this till tomorrow but wanted you to know that I’m with you tonight. Recapping takes a lot of energy and with a killer job and commute continuing this is just impossible. I’m hoping that one or two of the Patio, with more free time than you have, can step in and help out.
You’ve done an incredible job and started Reina off with a bang. You’re the best kiddo.

Judy, thank you for commenting tonight and so late. I'm a bit wound up and very grateful to read your supportive comment as i know it's going to be a long night.

I'm enjoying every minute of this TN - Michelle Renaud is "killing it" and I cant wait to see what happens next,

Diana

REINA-SOY

Diana, an excellent recap again. While I'm sorry to see that this will be you're last recap (until time and circumstances permit), I am glad that you are taking the time that you need to address whatever circumstances you are experiencing. I will echo JudyB; your ability to surmise so much just from what you see is exceptional. I only have some of the conversations to add.

When Yameli went to talk to Jack in his car, she wondered why Jack was following her. Jack started with some not-so-convincing excuses, but when Yameli pressed him for a better explanation, jack declared his love for her...he didn't plan it; it just happened and every day the feelings get stronger. It upsets him that Yameli doesn't reciprocate. Yameli assures him that she cannot love any man right now, but Jack thinks that it is her obsession with Charly that is keeping her from loving him and he is afraid that she will go to the greatest of lengths, including sleeping with Charly, to accomplish her mission. When Jack brings up Charly's family and how they will be hurt, Yameli argues that she will not hurt Charly's family; whatever happens to the family will be on Charly who must pay for all he did to Yameli.

Erick found some phone cards in the trash and asked Lidia about them. Lidia replied that Monchis had given them to her so that she could call him, but since she won't be talking to Monchis anymore, she threw them away. The call Erick made was to Monchis; he wants to meet with him, so Monchis will arrange a meeting.

In the last scene with Jack and Yameli, Jack did tell Yameli that he was returning to Miami. Yameli tried to talk him into staying, but Jack refuses to do so because he knows that, in the end, Yameli will be the one who will be hurt; and he doesn't want to witness that. He pointed out that her desire to avenge Charly is already changing her and he fears that by the time Yameli completes her personal mission, he won't love the person she will become.

G-nite....See y'all tomorrow!

SILVIA #9 Thursday 6/7/19 Part 1

Silvia tells the viewer how after the death of El Güero she found refuge in keeping extremely busy in her work so she could fall in bed exhausted and ready to sleep every night.

The viewer sees Silvia rehearsing a dance routine for the stage as the director and Emilio watch. It is time for a lunch break. She has a car accident on the way to see her daughter and is taken unconscious in an ambulance to the hospital.Emilio tells Gregorio her manager that Silvia has been killing herself with work since the death of El Güero and they are helping her do it. Emilio tries to impress on Silvia how serious this was: she lost control, she fainted and hit her head. Silvia tries to minimize it all. Sure she fainted but now she is just fine. Emilio tells her she needs a break. Silvia doesn’t agree. She has to work to support herself and her family. Emilio explains that is exactly why he wants her to take a vacation to deal with her mourning and to enjoy her family.

Silvia returns to work and finds that Emilio has replaced her because he wanted to and he could. If she is not capable of looking out for her health, he will do it. Gregorio has cut back on her filming schedule, too. He sees it as less is more. She is shocked that everyone is making these decisions without consulting her. She wants a rep who will not treat her like a child. Gregorio offers her a list of his competitors but also mentions that it is too bad that they will not be able to offer her a movie in Spain, another in Italy and the chance to work with the director Vittorio de Sica. This interests Silvia and she signs the contract. Silvia wants her daughter to come with her. Soon, she and little Silvia (Livia) are at the airport ready to leave for Barcelona. Her friends know she will do well.

Silvia and Livia arrive in Barcelona where an assistant helps her settle in and find a school for Livia. They visit a very conservative Catholic school where the Mother Superior is neither impressed with or interested in what Silvia does or her divorced status. This is also a boarding school. Silvia explains to the viewer that it was 1959 and her first experience in Franco’s Spain. She being an “artist and a divorced woman was a total rarity.” Silvia asks her assistant about finding a less restrictive kind of school for Livia. The assistant tells her that in Spain they are all going to be the same. Silvia ends up making a “cash donation” to the Mother Superior to get Livia into the school.

Silvia starts filming her movie “Charleston”. The director is impressed. Livia visits her on the set. Silvia mentions to the viewer that she got to enjoy her daughter like she had never before during their time in Barcelona. When it is time for Silvia to travel from Spain it is hard for her and Livia who doesn’t want to stay at the boarding school. Silvia tells her commitments are commitments. She will be away for only two months. Livia is not happy.

Silvia goes to Italy and makes her movie. She tries to call Livia on her birthday but the Mother Superior turns down her request saying Livia is in class when she really isn’t. Livia asks another nun if her mother has called. She is told how busy her mother is and taken to bake a cake. Silvia is soon back with loads of gifts and wants to take Livia to the Costa Brava to the beach. Livia says she can’t go because she is in the Blessed Virgin choir and they are going to sing at mass. She prefers to do that. She won’t be forced “again.” Silvia goes to the beach alone.

When they are ready to go back to Mexico, Silvia has a problem. The Mother Superior supports Livia’s calling to become a nun and her wanting to stay with them. Silvia barges into the church and reclaims her daughter. Silvia tells the viewer later they would laugh about all of this.

SILVIA Part 2

It is 1960 and there is a welcome back party for Silvia. Gustavo Alatriste has noticed her and bribes her friend Ernesto to get to sit by her. She seems to like Gustavo until she finds that Ernesto had been given this huge decorative vase in exchange for the favor. Gustavo finally apologizes and she seems to be interested in him until his wife suddenly appears on the scene. Sonia tells her their marriage is on the rocks.

Silvia thanks Emilio for making her go to Europe. It was truly worthwhile.

SYLVIA

Oh my, that little bribe Silvia offered to get her daughter into the Spanish school is like a shoutout to the university admission scandals going on now. As the French say, The more things change, the more they stay the same."

I really got worried that Silvia was not going to be able to wrest her little gal away from the determined nuns. Pretty scary.

Looks like there may be a new romance looming on the horizon.

Thanks for keeping us up to date Jarifa. Love getting to know more about Silvia's life and loves.

reina-soy

Thank you, Diana. And special thanks for all the recaps you did for this show.

Vanesa will come out of the accident OK. She is in no danger. Silvana is not so lucky. They had to amputate her foot. When Silvana's parents found out that the accident happened in the car registered to Carlos Cruz they realized Vanesa was driving. They started blaming Charly and Diana. Charly offered to cover hospital expenses. In the call to Silvana's father, Yamelí told him that what Charly offered was pittance, the expenses continue after the hospital. Silvana would need rehabilitation, counseling and all is very expensive. She told him get a lawyer and not waste time.

Thank you, Diana and Chickie. I was especially interested in finding out that Jack declared his love for Yami. I didnt know if he lived her or LOVED her. I am rooting for him , but I am afraid that she and Juanjo are destined to be together. I would choose Jack . Marcelo always reminded me a little of Hub.

Diana, you have gone above and beyond to bring us your wonderful recaps . Your own obligations come first. I have had a lot to deal with lately , so I understand that life gets busy\messy\complicated. We are lucky to have the patio to gather on for a little escape from reality.

REINA

Rgv Chick, thank you for your kind words. As usual, you've come to my rescue like the hero that you are.

So Jack's impassioned speech was a declaration of love. I'm relieved though that he is leaving as he has no hope.

"her desire to avenge Charly is already changing her and he fears that by the time Yameli completes her personal mission, he won't love the person she will become". Yameli has indeed changed right before our eyes. And her conflict regarding Charly is frightening and frankly perplexing. "he is afraid that she will go to the greatest of lengths, including sleeping with Charly, to accomplish her mission". Jack is not alone in his fear. It is ours as well.

Crucial details intriguingly told. Thank you!

Diana

REINA

Lucio, thank you for explaining the Vanesa and Silvana's health status.

At first, I thought Silvana might have died but when that obviously wasn't the case could not figure out what it was as they never showed her. I am happy Yameli sprung into action. Charly will cover hospital costs? How not so generous. Yes, Charly must pay.

Thank you Susanlynn! Of course I'm in your camp as Marcelo Cordoba has been in our sights since Pasion! (And I think on your radar before that). I think he is handsome and a bit brooding. I said early on I thought he and Yameli would be great together. Interesting that Juanjo has been almost absent the past few episodes. My slight quibble with him is that he seems a bit emotionless, I'm not sensing any smoldering passion. I want to be proven wrong.

Diana

Good Morning, Patio!

Lucio, thank you for adding that vital information. I'm just wondering where Charly is going to get the money to pay for both hospital bills since he is practically broke.

JudyB likes to point out sayings and there was one that Jack mentioned that I had never heard. I think it was on the Daytime page that we had a discussion about forgiveness.Jack's saying is "El olvido es el único perdón y la única venganza" which literally means "Forgetting is the only forgiveness and the only revenge." There is much merit to the saying, but I don't know that I have forgiven those who I thought I had forgiven since there are things that are hard to forget :-(

Reina

Charly isn't paying the hospital costs out of pocket. He told Lari that the insurance would take care of Silvana's hospital costs.

Agree about Juanjo seeming emontionless, but I think it's the character, not the actor.

Sylvia

Unpopular opinion here, but it does seem Silvia is choosing her career over her child. It's just project after project after project. She's not necessarily doing it out of grief- she's actually selfish. She didn't really want to take the child to Europe, she did it out of guilt.

REINA-SOY

Anon 11:44, "Charly isn't paying the hospital costs out of pocket." Oh yeah, I had forgotten about that! This is a TN so that will probably happen, but in RL, would the insurance pay if the driver was DWI? Even if it did, insurance costs would probably skyrocket...but yeah, this is a TN ACK!

REINA

So glad you mentioned that dicho Chickie. I just finished watching the episode and was struck by how much it resembled the advice given in the book Perdonar Para Sanar by Frederick Luskin. However, Jack seemed premature in pushing Lari towards this. No one can tell you when to forgive, and as Yameli pointed out, he has not had his parents, grandmother nor child killed, so who is he to preach?

Off-topic a bit...I got caught up on past episodes and laughed my head off watching Monchis dump a pool of Tabasco sauce on his pizza in one scene. Reminds me of how one of my sons-in-law eats and who, as a result, has acid reflux.

Terribly worried that after Monchi's rant about not tolerating "betrayal", he's going to see Lidia's exit that way and kill her. Not a spoiler. Just a worry. She's one of my favorite characters and I don't want to see her bumped off.

SILVIA

Niecie in MD wrote on the previous page (regarding Silvia throwing herself on the grave) "I wondered if that was true or dramatic license." I wonder how much of what Silvia did (or is shown doing) is "dramatic license." She is, after all, an actress. Some have pointed out that she has shown how she forgot about Livia in a few instances, but how much is Silvia leaving out? I tend to agree with Anon 11:44, the woman is selfish...and obstinate.

SILVIA

One of the things that I liked about SILVIA FRENTE A TI, it is that Silvia Pinal was very brave to tell her story, with all her ups and downs ... what it is said in the series is quite acurate to what is common knowledge, does not paint herself as a saint or as a victim; the relationship with her daughter was exactly how is telled: her career comes first.

I was never fan of her as an actress (she is not bad and had very good comedies in older years, but she is not the best either); but her life is quite fascinating (so much to come in the next 12 episodes)

SILVIA

Hola Patio--I'm only 3 episodes behind now. Just wanted to add my thanks to Jarifa for keeping up with all the recaps on this excellent bio-pic. The comments have been super. Now that we are in the late 50s early 60s, I'm reliving my high school years. I feel quite at home.

Morality, or lack of it was the stuff of celebrity gossip magazines to titillate their readers and sell copies. I don't think acceptance of ill-matched liaisons reached down in such a public way to the general population, especially scions of empires, who themselves might have come up through the ranks. Men with money and position were excused from having lovers on the side; wife had to stay pure. I'm up to where Emilio tries to chase down a photographer to take away his picture, or bribe him not to publish. He apparently got away with it and published their picture. That's where Daddy came back into the picture and the next thing we heard was an "arranged" marriage for Emilio.

Silvia, as you all have mentioned, is still very young and loses her heart easily only to find it betrayed her. WAS she looking for a long stable marriage? She desperately wanted both, a man to marry who wouldn't stray and yet allow her to continue with her career, in which many an attractive man tried to turn her head and be able to say he had an affair with her. I had high hopes for Severiano, but like she and all you said, he was treating her as an ornament to be decorated with his lavish gifts and not as a woman with feelings. I think she also told him he had no feelings.

If only her first husband, Rafael, had been successful, too. I wonder where that would have taken her.

SILVIA

Thanks, Jarifa. I was confused about the nuns and couldn't process that they would lie about Silvia not phoning and actually try to prevent mother from retrieving daughter. But your recap laid it out so clearly. That's exactly what they did.

Oh no, Silvia. Not another married man! All these guys are always on their way to get divorced but not quite there. What takes them so long to get divorced? Anybody remember the days when rich Americans (hey, you, Liz Taylor and Marilyn Monroe) would go to Mexico for a quickie divorce?

Yes, Silvia is not such a great mother at this point. She takes her daughter for granted.

Loving Sylvia's clothes.

Thank you, Jarifa, for so generously giving us your time and talent to recap this interesting show. Her wardrobe is gorgeous. It does seem that Sylvia was a free spirit who did not live by societal norms. I wonder where that free spirit came from in those repressive times. Gee,we couldnt even wear slacks on front campus...and we didnt.

OT..Anita, we are planning a trip northward. Can you refresh my memory on your usual route. I think that it was 81 to avoid NYC and Boston. My daughter fears that it would add 3 hours to our trip. Hub likewise never tried it because he said it would take longer. Thanks . P.s. Check Outlander Online for some information on season four

OT, WAY OT
Directions North--Susanlynn. It IS a longer trip, but less traffic (unless there are major road repairs). It's lovely country side. It's NOT I-81, that's too far West.

I take I-95 and the NJ Turnpike to I-287 (near Metuchen, NJ), heading west/north to I-87 (at Suffern). If you accidentally stay on I-287 going east, it'll just take you across the Tappan Zee Bridge and you can still head NE toward Boston and on North on Interstates.

If you do get onto I-87 heading North, stay on it until you reach the turn off for the NY Thruway, going EAST. It turns into I-90.

There is another variation to avoid NYC, and you get some lovely views of the city along the Hudson at some overlooks and that is to go to the end of the NJ Turnpike. You'll be on state and city roads until you hit signs to 9W and the Palisades Parkway at Fort Lee. Take the Palisades Parkway--it's on the right fork and comes up pretty fast.

Then, get off at West Nyack and choose either way to I-287 West to I-87 or East across the Tappan Zee.

I would advise consulting a Google Map before you decide.

SILVIA

Thanks, everyone, for stopping on by the patio This one is sure sparking a lot of interesting comments.

I thought it was genius for Emilio and Gregorio to send Silvia off to Europe to mourn and refocus on her career. I can pnot imagine how she felt arriving at rehearsal to see herself having been replaced.

JudyB and Niecie, I think these nuns probably thought they were saving Livia from her own mother and so felt justified in their deceptions. Creepy.

Anon and RgvChick, yep, Silvia was far from being the mother of the year at this point.

Anita, that was an interesting point wondering about what might have been if her first husband had been able to find success. The celebrity gossip magazines. I remember those well.

Susanlynn, I think you hit the nail on the head with Silvia being a free spirit and tries to make the best of whatever comes. I remember those repressive times, too, right down to the white gloves.

"SILVIA":

Jarifa: I'm assuming Emilio & Gregorio were annoyed with Silvia's diva behavior ?

"REINA":

Judy: Michelle Renaud is AWESOME & she's killing it for sure BIGLY.

OT..Anita...thanks so much. Hub always dfove. This trip Will be the first time our younger daughter will try driving . My son in law drove a different route than my husband chose . Thanks .

SILVIA

Busy busy weekend. The recap for Friday’s episode will be up some time Sunday.

REINA-SOY
Ep 21: Part 1 A Slip of the Tongue OR The Prince Gets a Lashing

Early morning, Erick comes downstairs hauling his backpack. Lidia was hoping he would go with her to the hospital, but Erick has others things he needs to do. He gets on his bike thinking of the horrible things Monchis has done and takes off as Lady DEA follows...too close because Erick spots her and ducks into some stores and gets away. He hops on Chente’s bike and is taken to Monchis.

Wendy brings Juanjo the wedding invitations. He wonders why he is getting so many; so Wendy suggests that he invite Charly’s family and Lareli. Juanjo is surprised that Wendy would want to invite Lareli since she doesn’t seem to like her, but Wendy insists that she has nothing against Lareli.

Erick enters Monchis’ hideout. Monchis approaches him ready for a hug, but Erick tackles him and warns him that he’d better not touch his mother again…he is going to turn in Monchis. Monchis fights back like a lion attacking a cub. As Toño and Chente hodl Erick, Monchis punches Erick and throws him face down on the table. He takes off his belt and brutally lashes Erick. When Monchis turns his belt to hit Erick with the large buckle, Toño and Chente hold him back reminding him that Erick is his son. As Erick leaves, Monchis warns him that he’d better not turn him in.

Lidia is at the hospital visiting Vanesa. While she stays with Vanesa, Charly and Diana go talk to Octavio in the hallway. Octavio tells them that he expects them to pay, not only the hospital bill, but also, any rehabilitation, prosthetics and psychological treatment needed by Silvana. Charly insults him by calling him a rat. When Octavio gets too close to Charly, Axel steps in between them until Diana tells him to step back. After Octavio reminds them that Silvana was a well-liked model and now her career is over, he informs them that he will be suing them and walks away. Diana asks Charly what they are going to do. Charly would like to send Octavio to the dogs, but Diana points out that Octavio has a good case. Diana then tells Charly that the investigators have already questioned Vanesa, but she was not able to remember very much. Chary thinks they all need to get together and get on the same page in regards to what they will say.

Erick staggers as he walks close to Serg’s house. When Serg sees that Erick has been beat up, he quickly goes to him and helps him in the house.

Charly and Diana enter Vanesa’s room and ask Lidia to allow them some privacy. Once alone, Diana and Charly question Vanesa. After Charley tries to blame Silvana for the changes in Vanesa and for making her take drugs, Vanesa blurts out that Diana also takes drugs. If Charly’s looks could kill, Diana would have been struck dead. They go out into the hallway, where Charly questions Diana who admits that she took some pills with Vanesa when they were celebrating the modeling contract. Chary blames Diana for what is happening to their daughter, but Diana counters that Charly is an alcoholic.

After Diana leaves, Lidia approaches Charly to ask about Erick, but Charly is more into himself and barks that he could care less about Erick. When Charly tells Lidia that he is tired of Diana and insinuates getting a divorce, Lidia assumes that it has more to do with Lari and advises Charly that he needs to think of his daughter who needs her family…together.

REINA-SOY
Ep 21: Part 2 A Slip of the Tongue OR The Prince Gets a Lashing

Lareli and Juanjo are in their recording studio waiting for Erick, but Erick is still at Serg’s place packing his things…he needs to go home and be with his mother since Monchis might harm her. After Serg reminds him that everyone will see what Monchis did to him, Erick decides to stay with Serg a bit longer. Back at the studio. Juanjo gives the wedding invitation to Lari and asks if she will go. After Lari responds that she’ll go if she is still in Mexico, she calls Erick because she has a bad feeling, but she gets a “not available” recording. Juanjo and Lareli decide to go to the barrio to see if they can find him. Since they are going there, they can also take Erick’s demo to El Buho.

Octavio is outside the hospital taking to a group of reporters. He tells them that Vanessa was on drugs when she had the accident and her father Charly Flow, is refusing to take responsibility. Axel happens to be walking out and sees Octavio; so he rushes back inside to warn Charly and Diana who are about to take Vanesa home. Charly suggests that they take the fire exit, but when Axel opens the door, the fire alarm goes off. The reporters hear the alarm and run over quickly, but Axel holds them back while the family gets into their car.

Yameli and Juanjo take Erick’s demo to El Buho, the DJ. After El Buho recognizes Pez Koi’s voice and agrees to play the song on his station, he starts telling Lareli about Soul & Bass, but especially about Yameli who he remembers as being very talented…but now dead. He and Juanjo then start mentioning how the group worked so hard to make the money needed for their first recording. When Yameli blurts out that there was a concert at the old church, Juanjo looks at her questioningly; so she quickly tells El Bujo how Juanjo brought her to the Barrio and told her all about Soul and Bass. Later, when they are alone, Juanjo questions Lareli since he never told her about the concert; so Lareli tells him that it was Charly who told (quick save! maybe…). Lareli then gets a call from Chary telling her that they are back home and he needs to talk to her. Juanjo offers to take her and after he drops her off, he recalls how Wendy mentioned that Lareli reminded her of someone.

Erick looks at his bruised face and is cleaning himself as he cries. Later Lidia calls him since she was expecting him at the hospital and he never arrived. After Erick apologizes for not going, he tells her that he will be staying at Serg’s for a while since he has to gather his things.

At Charly’s house, Vanessa finds out that Silvana lost a leg and freaks out. Diana tries to calm her down, but as Vanesa cries, she grabs a knife; so Diana yells out for Charly who comes running in followed by Lareli. When Vanesa won’t listen to Charly and Diana since they have been lying to her about so many things, Lareli approaches her and calms her down. Later, Charly, Diana and Yameli talk in the kitchen. Charly tells Lareli abot Octoavio demands; so Lareli advises him to settle with Octavio, but Charly confides that they have no money…that is why he needs to set up the concert ASAP so he wants Lareli to set it up.

Juanjo is having dinner with his family, but is lost in thought about Lareli. Meanwhile, Lareli looks at a picture of Charly, Diana and baby Vanesa. She calls Jack, but gets his voicemail. She leaves a message that he was right; people are getting hurt who shouldn’t get hurt. She wants to follow his advice and really does want to forget, but she can’t.

REINA-SOY
Ep 21: Part 3 A Slip of the Tongue OR The Prince Gets a Lashing

Diana and Charlie argue about Charly’s decision to let Lareli take charge of the concert. They then talk about Vanesa and how she needs both of them. Diana thinks Vanesa also needs psychological help, but Chalry disagrees; he doesn’t want his daughter talking about all their problems. When Diana reminds him that he asked her for a divorce at the hospital, Charly tells her he changed his mind…for their daughter who needs both of them.

Alberto calls Diana since he found out about Vanesa. He worries that it might affect the photo campaign. When he suggests that they meet, Diana replies that she isn’t sure when they can meet since there are so many personal things going on.

Wendy and Juanjo are cuddled in bed when she asks if he gave Lareli and Charly the wedding invitations. After Juanjo respnds that he was only able to give the invitation to Lareli, he asks Wendy about her comment that Lareli reminded her of someone. Wendy shares that when Lareli said something, it sounded like something that Yameli would say…many things about Lareli remind her of Yameli.

Powerful yet hauntingly beautiful. I think this is your finest recap yet. The title was incredible Rgv Chick.

Every gamut of emotion vividly realized from water cascading gently down a brook to waves crashing mercilessly against the shore.

“Monchis fights back like a lion attacking a cub”. In my mind, I had likened it to a lion attacking a lamb and this was so similar, I had to smile... But, Monchis was pure evil in its most hideous form. A crazed and insane devil.

When Vanesa held the knife to her arm, a red trickle oozing down her arm, I found myself as horrified and transfixed as Charly an Diana. Yameli seemed to be as well but thankfully was able to shake off her stupor and save her.

Yameli realized her vengeance repercussions are having far reaching consequences. Few (except Monchis) are alone and are affected. And devastated.

"Lidia approaches Charly to ask about Erick, but Charly is more into himself and barks that he could care less about Erick" was the bitter, clear truth.

Yameli "slipping" about the concert was not unnoticed by Juanjo but it was a gentle prick of conscience, not a stunning blow. Wendy seems to be unknowingly assisting this secret to be far from safe.

"You could see Yameli calls Erick because she has a bad feeling". The call of the blood is starting to surge just a bit.

A long day ahead so more later.

Rgv Chick, you've outdone yourself. Thank you.

Diana and I are always on the same wavelength. I too was struck by the title which was a subtle play on words. A Slip of the Tongue....A Tongue Lashing?..no, not a tongue lashing, but a brutal, out of control physical lashing "like a lion attacking a cub". Powerful image.

I also was struck by the unexpected humanity of Monchi's two minions when they prevented their boss from further brutality. That was almost a tender moment in the midst of all the ugly rage.

I'm really conflicted about the Juanjo-Lari-Wendy triangle. Wendy seems like a good, loyal person and they were sweet cuddled up in bed discussing the wedding. I'd much rather see Lari/Yameli end up with Jack I guess. But the plot seems to be pointing the other way. Hope that the writers are just messing with us.

And speaking of loyalty, there was Axel at the hospital, trying to do his best to prop up and protect Charly, in spite of being humiliated and fired only shortly before. He's better than our self-involved rock star deserves.

As for the toxic Charly/Diana interactions--it's so depressing but realistic. We like to think that tragedy and family trouble bring out the best in us, but we often deteriorate into our worst selves under stress. And that's what they seem to be doing.

Ah well. More drama to come I'm sure.

Thanks for the recap Chickie. And Diana, hope that you can catch up on some lost sleep this weekend, in spite of all you have to do.

RGV Chick: Bold Prediction: Yameli's undercover will be blown! Mark my words!

Wendy will open her damn mouth.

Chickie...wow..thank you so much for that wonderful recap. ..so much going on.Thanks for providing me with a little escape this morning. I appreciate it.

Monchis has turned a corner and has become an animal. He seems to be losing his mind. First, he attacks and rapes his wife and then he brutalizes his "son." He has gone out of control. Serg has been a good friend to Erich and gave him a safe haven to retreat to.

What a family . Diana did drugs with Vanessa ? I missed that. And Charly is an alcoholic. What a mess. Life is hard enough , but people sometimes are their own worst enemies and make life even harder than it just naturally is.

WEll, now that Wendy shared with Juanjo that Larli reminds her of Yami the wheels are turning in his head.

Thank you, Rgv Chick.

Charly's fortunes since he met Lari:
He got caught on camera cheating on his wife and it was widely published.
He was chased by the police and got shot.
The relationship with his wife is at a very low point. They both look for partners on the side, separation or divorce was brought up.
His daughter had an accident while high, the other injured girl's parents demand payment for her treatment.
And Yamelí is just starting.

Being in charge of the concert is a good opportunity for Yamelí to do some more harm.

I continue to notice the use of songs to convey the moods. When Eric goes to visit Monchis the song "Family" plays. The one that he sang to Vanesa by her bedside. Later, when Yamelí has the crisis of conscience and looking at the photo of Charly, Diana and little Vanesa, the song "Perdóname" plays sung by a female voice. We have heard this song before, sung by Charly.

Thank you, Diana, JudyB, Susanlynn, Steven and Lucio! Great comments all around.

Diana, "When Vanesa held the knife to her arm, a red trickle oozing down her arm, I found myself as horrified and transfixed as Charly an Diana." Isn;t it amazing how real these things seem to be? And to think that the knife was rigged to leak out a little paint with pressure...at least that is what goes through my mind so that can remember thta "this is just s story!" (as JudyB likes to point out :-)

JudyB, "A Slip of the Tongue....A Tongue Lashing" We're thinking alike, amiga! I actually did think of using "tongue lashing" somewhere, but Monchis was so brutal that I threw that thought right out. And when I saw Axel appear at the hospital, I was perplexed---why is this guy back? Is he a glutton for punishment? I sure hope Univision isn't cutting out scenes, but it does seem so because here is no explanation as to how/when Charly asked Axel to come back.

Steve, Wendy just has a strange feeling about Yameli right now; so there is no way she can "blow her cover." If anything, she is just putting ideas into Juanjo's mind and/or supporting what he is already sensing.

Lucio, WOW, thanks for summing up everything that has happened since Yameli started interacting with Charly's family. You're right,; Yameli is just starting..and that is scary. I notice the songs too; they are very well coordinated with the scenes and add much to the drama.

RGV Chick: I do NOT like Wendy. Something about this girl is annoying.

SILVIA Part 1

It is 1960.

Silvia sees Gustavo Altatriste and his wife at an art exhibit. The wife notices them talking from across the room. Silvia discretely tells Gus about a record he left at her place. Later Silvia runs into the wife I the rest room and the wife makes it clear that despite what people say, she and Gus are at a very good point in their marriage but that she also knows how seductive her husband can be. She goes on to say that a lot of women don’t care if he is married. Silvia agrees saying there are all kinds of people out there.

Later at a beauty shop appointment, Silvia hears other clients talking about Gus’ impending divorce “documented” in some gossip magazines and later reads all about it herself.

It is a couple of months after Gus’ divorce, he visits Silvia . His “La Donna è movile ” record is still at Silvia’s playing (a bit too loudly) in the background. He has paid her a visit to tell her he is interested in her and it is clear she is still interested in him.

It is 1961.

Gus is helping Silvia redecorate since his business is furniture. He gives her a piece of ornate pottery to immortalize the day they met. She remembers the deal he made with Ernesto. Gus proposes to her and she accepts. They get married. Gus wants to produce a movie with her in it as the star. She just has to tell him what kind of movie she’d like to star in. She wants to do a movie with the Spanish director Luis Buñuel. She wants to do an adaptation of the novel “Tristana” by Benito Pérez Galdós (Spanish novelist late 19th-early 20th C) Gus is all in to make it happen.

They head to Madrid and arrange to meet with Buñuel. He is happy to see Silvia. She would love to do a movie with him. He would love to do a movie with her, but it is the same old problem. Where will thy find a producer. That's where Gus comes in. His business is furniture. Buñuel reminds them that he does not do commercial cinema. Silvia says Gus wants to do it because he loves her. That is a good reason to Buñuel. They all travel back to Mexico. Buñuel has a script that Silvia is pleased with and sees her as the protagonist “Viridiana.” As producer, Gus things they need to make the movie in Spain to make the movie as authentic as possible.

Silvia tells the viewer that Buñuel was one of the most controversial directors out there. He was “incomprehensible in the Spain and Mexico of those times”. He was also persecuted politically. Silvia found the whole situation dangerously attractive.

SILVIA Part 2

Silvia, Gus, and Buñuel arrive in Spain where Buñuel is harassed at customs from the get go. On set, they find out via Gus that they have problems with the government “censor” who wants them to change the ending of the movie. Everyone is upset. Buñuel is enraged saying they don’t get the parody of “The Last Supper”, etc. Buñuel says he’ll go talk to them about it. Silvia warns him about that saying he could end up in prison or executed. She pleads with him in front of everyone for him to change the ending himself and not allow the censors to change it for him.

Buñuel sends Silvia and Gus to represent the film at its premiere at the Cannes film festival in 1961. Gus is ill so Silvia is left to go on her own and represent the film. She is turned away because she forgot her invitation but manages to force her way in anyway. Security chase her but she gets in. “Viridiana” wins the “Palme d’Or”. Silvia doesn’t get to accept the award. Silvia tells the viewer that after all the problems the Franco regime had caused them, the same Spanish censor who threatened to close down filming was the one to accept the award. The next day Buñuel calls Silvia and Gus and reads them a newspaper film review from Rome calling his movie repulsive, blasphemous, etc. When back in Spain, Buñuel tells Gus and Silvia that the government is seizing all copies of the movie. Silvia has a copy and plans to smuggle it out to Mexico in her handbag. Everyone warns her how dangerous that could be. Silvia insists saying it is her best work. No dictator will take that from her. Silvia also has a place for them to hide the remaining other two copies of the movie: at the home of the bullfighter Luis Dominguín. They end up burying the film reels on his property.

It is 1962 and President John F. Kennedy, Jr. visits Mexico to ask for Mexican support in the fight against Communism.

Back at home in Mexico, Gus is having a hard time distributing “Viridiana” in Mexico. Those who agreed to show it weren’t too enthusiastic. Others wouldn’t touch it because of the censure from the Vatican. Silvia’s grandmother falls ill. There is little they can do for her. She dies. Silvia tells the viewer that without all of the support of her grandmother, her life would have been a different story.

Some good news for Silvia and Gus. She is pregnant. Livia is happy, too.

Silvia and Gus meet with Buñuel. After all of the success of “Viridiana, they cannot believe that a year has gone by. The police ended up at the Buñuel’s house looking for more copies of the movie because Dominguín had dug up one of the copies and showed it to some guests. Buñuel says that not Franco nor anybody is going to impede “Viridiana”. He hopes his next movie “El ángel exterminador” has the same good luck. They toast to it. Silvia mentions that he he said he might have a role for her in his new movie. Buñuel says he has lots of roles in that movie but they are small roles; really too small for her after “Viridiana”. Silvia sees it differently, rather than roles being “big or small”; she sees actors that are either “big or small.” Silvia tells them she is pregnant. They all toast one more time.

Silvia informs the viewer that Buñuel’s next movie “EL ángel exterminador” was really a precursor to all of those reality shows where you get all of these people together in one room to see how “they behave under pressure”; “total reality”.

Buñuel is shown on set, setting the mood of the scene they are about to shoot. It sounds like it will be one continual scene over the entirety of the shooting where things will remain the same and just become dirty and worn with time as the actors will react as aristocrats trapped in a new situation beyond their control. Silvia sounds not too happy being pregnant in the midst of it.

Silvia is at home watching TV when she starts having labor pains. She sends her mother to call Gus and Livia for her suitcase.

I have enjoyed all of them, but this was my favorite episode so far. I especially enjoyed the “Viridiana” parts.

I went online and found the trailer to “Vidriana” and could see why super conservatives like Franco and the Vatican were upset. The movie looks like quite a ride. You can rent the movie. It looked interesting enough that I will have to do just that sometime. In spite of all of the initial problems with its release, the movie is considered a masterpiece today.

I could not imagine how heavy Silvia's purse was with two movie reels packed away.

Sorry for the typos!

Thanks Jarifa. For some reason this was not my favorite episode. Although historically it was very interesting. But seeing Sylvia get involved in another marriage and sensing it would not go well for very long just somehow depressed me.

But she's a game gal. Ready for anything and quite daring. Truly a lady with a zest for life and not afraid to break the "rules".

SILVIA

JudyB, ITA that there is no moss growing under Silvia’s feet. This is only husband #2 but with the romances it seems there were more at this point.

SILVIA

She didn't have time to raise her daughter, but had more than enough for numerous affairs.

Silvia just liked to get attention it seems.
