Por Amar Sin Ley, Season 2 Miercoles 6/26/19 Episode 71: See You In Court, Part IV

Scenes combined where it made sense to do so.

Javier explained at the staff meeting that the ballistics reports he studied pointed to El Gringo's cartel as the ones responsible for the attacks on members of their firm.

Alan denied having anything to do with Téllez' death, claiming that there was nothing to connect him to it. Sonia told him there was; the police had Téllez' cell phone which showed numerous calls made to him. Alan said this proved nothing. Sonia said that there was no other suspect and they were taking him into custody pending final proof. She preferred to get this over with as soon as possible. He stood up, apparently thinking that he could get free within a few hours. Carlos came into the office and asked what was going on. Sonia greeted him in an ironic tone of voice. His facial expression said that he had an idea what this was about.

Javier was certain that it was El Gringo's cartel but could not yet find the connexion to Dorantes nor to anyone at the firm. Alonso reminded him that they don't take drug dealers on as clients; it was one of the rules. He asked whether this was about past cases and Alonso suggested he get Carmen to help. The meeting ended except for Alonso, Javier, Ricardo, and Gustavo. Alonso asked Javier where he got his information.

Sonia told Carlos that Alan was under arrest and explained that he was the last person Téllez talked to before he was murdered. Carlos called this an abuse of authority. Sonia told him she was just doing her job. If no proof can be found, Alan will be released. Alan claimed he had nothing to hide and had nothing to do with the crime, but would go through the motions. He started to leave with the police, telling them they didn't need to cuff him. Nancy came down the stairs just in time to see this. She asked what was going on and Alan said “Only a mistake; I'll be back later.”. Carlos said he was going to the police station. “Let's go. I'll explain on the way.”

Javier explained that El Gringo's group was active in the US and was protected through bribes. He was sure of his information. Gustavo wondered who was benefitting from El Gringo's activity and how they became targets. Gustavo was angry that Javier wasn't sharing more information. Alonso finally decided that Javier would continue the investigation on his own while Gustavo and Ricardo would stay out of it. He got them to agree to obey this.

El Cuervo made a few cuts into the packages and El Ciego inhaled enough to be satisfied of the quality of the merchandise. They both gloated over getting it from El Gringo. El Chivo sat at the table having a beer and El Ciego called him over. He wasn't quite gloating along and El Ciego's manner implied – based on past observation – that he was suspicious. He finally said that anyone who betrays him he will kill. El Cuervo took one packet and suggested to El Chivo they go and celebrate. They walked out together and El Ciego was satisfied with his job well done.

El Gringo was furious at what happened, going on about how this could not be allowed to happen again. Michelle listened to him and then he began blaming her. She told him “You don't yell at me. You send your errand boy after me and you don't know my plan.” El Gringo dismissed his henchman and accused Michelle of liking Carlos and wanting to boink him. She told him that was none of his business. She told him that Carlos had gotten El Ciego out of jail and was in debt to him. He had a foundation with cash and she was sure this was not a coincidence.

Tatiana called Juan, saying she felt neglected. He apologised, but said he had a lot of work. She persisted and he finally agreed to dine with her that night. She talked about him being positive and happy. He said “Yes, I'm happy.” But his tone of voice clearly indicated he was not.

El Gringo (whose first name seems to be Alberto) said he assigned her to find out about the connexions between El Ciego and Carlos. She said she was doing that but these things take their own time. She told him to be patient. He was getting just as impatient as his rival but Michelle told him if he didn't agree with her plan and trust her that was not her problem.

Sonia seemed to get a charge out of Alan not calling Carlos for help. Alan reminded her that he was a lawyer and she started to point out that a lawyer should not represent himself. He reminded her that they were not yet in court and this rule did not apply to the current procedures. She asked him about his relationship with the victim. He said “None; I met him at the end of Carlos' incarceration. He was the lawyer of a fellow named Pedro who knew the victim.” Sonia asked how, therefore, his was the last phone number Téllez called. He had asked his assistance on a case. To her question “Why you?” he answered “Maybe he admired me or the speed with which my firm solved Carlos' situation.” [We all know this is a whopper of a lie.] Further, that he didn't have the resources to deal with a fraud case that also involved death threats. The number of calls was evidence of his desperation. He then asked why it was that with all the investigation she made into Carlos' murder accusation she didn't find anything. She said it was a quest for the truth. He said since she didn't have any real evidence here why was he arrested and she said “Homicide is a very serious offense. There is no other suspect, and you are being put in preventive detention until we are finished investigating.” He started going on about how she could not do this. She motioned for two policemen to come and take him away.

Elsewhere in the building Carlos was venting to Nancy about Alan always causing problems. Not just this but even in front of clients. He asked “Whom do you know here?” She told him “No one, but you know that is no impediment.” and to leave it in her hands. He was not to worry and she would do whatever he wanted. He told her this was not to get back to anyone at Vega. He did not really want to see Alan, and he was getting nervous and impatient, especially when Nancy told him that Sonia was in charge.

Ricardo went into Sofia's office and found her organizing files. He asked about her mother and she finally admitted that things were not going well. She described her reaction to her mother's first major break with reality, how that was not a good thing, and how was she going to manage this and do her work, etc. He told her that she was learning how to do this and would make mistakes. She should also ask for help. He said he was there to help her. He suggested they talk to Nicolás and get his opinion or a recommendation to another specialist. She agreed and thanked him for his help.

Carlos marched into Sonia's office and demanded to know about Alan. She told him Alan was being detained for 72 hours at least. He asked what she had against his firm and she said “I never believed in you. People like you are accustomed to deceive in order to win.” That riled him and he accused her of arrogance. She answered that she had all she needed to find out what he and his cousin have been hiding.

Ricardo and Roberto talked about the latter's problems with his parents. Ricardo offered to help in whatever way he could and praised Nicolás for his help with his case in Los Cabos by providing the theory of the crime. He wanted to see him to thank him and... to ask for help about Sofia's mother. Roberto said that wouldn't be a problem.

Sonia and Carlos argued about his lack of integrity. She accused him of manipulating the law to free criminals and when he said he was doing his job she reminded him that her job was defending the city from criminals. He accused her of abuse of authority once again and threatened to file charges against her with the goal of getting her dismissed once Alan's case was resolved. She called his bluff and told him to go ahead and try because at the end of this case everyone would see who was in the right.

Victoria was nervous about the Massachussetts bar exam. Adrian tried to make her feel better and asked if she would like to dine with him. She said Yes, but after the exam is over. He agreed. All looks ripe for something soon.

Nancy tried to tell Carlos not to provoke Sonia. They had to look at where she was investigating and think clearly. He decided to go to the neighborhood where this happened.

Ricardo told Sofia that he had arranged a meeting with Nicolás at his apartment. She thanked him.

Carlos saw Alan in lockup and started by saying “You know I didn't want any problems.” Alan said that Sonia is doing this because she hates them. Carlos agreed, but demanded to know everything. How was it that there were so many calls between him and Téllez and Alan said that this was just a coincidence. He didn't want to talk and Carlos reminded him that he had to tell him everything if he was expected to defend him. Carlos told him that the last thing he wanted was for the investigation to continue. He warned him that if Alan has done anything to hurt the firm he was done with him. Alan played the Family Card, saying that he had to get him out and reminded him about El Ciego's money and what he did to help with that. [Really, what was it again?] Carlos agreed, but reminded him that he was always saving his butt their whole lives and it would stop with this. He walked out and Alan was not happy.

Juan and Manuel exchanged lovelorn stories and Juan said that he thought maybe Roberto was right about not having feelings about this.

Gustavo and Lorena discussed their case. She didn't understand how a parent could financially neglect a child and he was about to talk about some people preferring adventures and another life when Sara's husband showed up claiming he had an appointment with Gustavo. He said that his wife had no resources to care for the child and he would prevail in the case. Carmen asked Gustavo if he wanted her to call security. Gustavo said he would talk to the man and directed him into his office. He creep looked at Lorena in a way that we hope Carmen noticed before she returned to her desk. Lorena followed him into the office and we now hope that Gustavo noticed how his eyes followed her. Gustavo sat down at his desk and Lorena stood on that side as he began by saying that by law the man must pay all he owed for the support of the child. The man refused to pay anything to Sara, but Gustavo reminded him that Sara worked round the clock to provide for the child and now needs childcare for him. He refused, threatened to get a lawyer, and threatened Gustavo's safety if they encountered each other on the street. Lorena took out her cell and shouted she was calling security. The man looked at Gustavo and said “See you in court” before walking out. Gustavo slammed the door.

That evening Nicolás explained the situation to Sofia, saying that Camila's doctor was right. This was common with this condition and it would get worse over time. In the meantime maintaining their routine was a good thing for her. She should go to work, talk about it later as she used to, and since she knew her mother better than anyone else she would learn how to handle it. Sofia asked her final question, which was that because her mother's condition started early it could be hereditary. She was getting worried that this would happen to her. Nicolás told her that for something to be genetic it needed to be a 50% greater probability than for the general population. He recommended that she keep mentally active by learning something new, for example. This did make her feel better and more optimistic. She thanked him and Ricardo, then took her leave.

Nancy and Carlos discussed Alan's case. The phone calls were allegedly about a fraud case. Nancy said she would have to look into Téllez' case history. She then got up from her chair and walked over to Carlos saying she would make him feel better. She started to kneel in front of him but looked up and asked him one question: Do you believe your cousin? Carlos thought for a moment and said “Yes. He's incapable of doing anything like this.” Nancy stood up, made a face to herself and asked “Are you sure?” He said Alan always needed someone to help him and had always been like that. Carlos had always corrected his mistakes. He explained he did this because Alan was family and that his aunt had asked him to. Alan had always been distracted and preferred the easy things. She toldl him she had seen Alan on the day of the crime but had made nothing of it. Carlos said Alan had come to his apartment that night. “He couldn't be in two places at once.”

Ricardo and Nicolás talked about Roberto. Nicolás was concerned that Lucia would hurt Roberto again.

Juan had dinner with Tatiana but he didn't look like he was having a good time. She said that Fernanda didn't appreciate what she had and it was best he forget about her and give his heart to someone else. [We all know what that really means.]

My apologies for this being so late. I ws hanging out in Starbucks drinking free refills in a nicely air-conditioned environment today.

It looks like Gustavo is going to have a nasty family court fight on his hands with Sara's husband. I have the feeling he is also a rapist and Gustavo will end up having to protect Lorena from him.

Thanks, Urban. No apologies needed. You are crafting sterling recaps here. Glad you caught a break to cool off and chill.

Boy, is Carlos in for a surprise. His screwup cousin has turned into a serial killer. I'm just waiting for Sonia to find out Alan put his car in the shop and the damage could match Tellez's injuries. Or maybe Nancy will figure it out first.

I can't figure out if Javier at least told Alonso who his source is about the cartels.

I'm a little bit ahead of the game and have missed your recaps and comments so much. It's a thrill to watch an episode and then read, almost, right away, your recap, particularly if one is older and losing their mind!

I like this novela because the cases proceed pretty quickly and don't waste valuable time regurgitating stuff. Each actor's character is also unique and their areas of expertise seem to fit their personalities.

Also, I'm still loving Guillermo Cantú, but hated him in Fuego. I must be losing my mind because I'm not bothered as much as I thought I would be by David Zepeda.

The casting director was pretty much on point with his/her/their selection.

Although, I've had enough of Tatiana, Juan (turning into a real douchebag now), Adrián (a really pushy guy and liar to boot), and even Nancy (although I'd like to know her ulterior motives and she seems to be dressing more low key now).

Also, I love how they are casting known, established actor's cameo appearances.

I forgot to add what is Helena Rojo up to? It can't be anything good, otherwise Roberto's father would have been more open about their divorce. I believe he wanted to protect Roberto and, therefore, didn't say anything negative about his mother.

And what is the back story on why Javier doesn't like and resists working with anyone else? Does anyone know where he worked before coming to Vegas & Associates?

And enough already, take Lorena away. She's even more of a wimp here than in LQLVMR.

I am also mystified at the lack of backstory on Javier. It's actually annoying.

GGC's Fernando in Fuego en la Sangre was about as evil as a person could get. I think that in the recaps here over 20 deaths were attributed to him either by him doing the killing or ordering someone else to do it. Not to mention the rapes.

Every time I see a character that toxic I wonder whether the actor has to see a shrink during shooting or afterward for recovery.

Alan isn't a serial killer, which doesn't mean he isn't a sociopath. He killed with a clear motive each time. The first was premeditated and the second was probably not so but the motive was to prevent the victim ratting him out about the first time.

Lucia is clearly messing with Roberto's head and adding to the mess she created years ago. If this runs another 20 episodes we better find out the truth about the divorce.
