MIRADA

OK, maybe Doc Rapunzel is a tiny bit nastier than I thought.   :-)

Whenever I comment on Lino I usually say something about "poor Lino". Today it's just "Lino" but it's "poor Vanesa".

A big difference between the situations of Lino and poor Vanesa. He looks to be starting a new romance with Anita (wow, Lino, don't waste your life pining for the lost Vanesa! a few hours was plenty), and poor Vanesa is stuck with her aggressive naco. On the bright side, if she and the naco have children the kids should have great hair.

Boo, hiss, boo to Televisa and Univision. If they are going to end an episode with Don Louse saying something significant to Prudy they should put a quick English translation on the screen. It took me 10 minutes with the DVR and Closed Captioning to figure out what he said. (I'm pretty sure I figured it out, he could have been more explicit. "Bring him (lo) to the house." I think. I'm pretty sure, but Spanish could really use some better pronouns. Well, so could English, we can't use "they" for everything. )

:-)

MIRADA

"Bring him to the house" was how I understood it, too.

MIRADA

Thanks, Doris! Context is everything, I wouldn't have had a clue otherwise.

And I have already watched and promptly deleted, so I can't even go back and check the CCs. I need to stop deleting these episodes as soon as I finish watching.

Ep 70: Part 1 The Chipayate (Kid) Makes an Impression

Marina never imagined that the woman Mago saw Beto kissing would be Lucreepy. Rick doesn’t like talking badly about Beto (Aww, go ahead!), but he doubts that Beto has told Lucreepy anything about his past.

Erasmo tells ZackAss about taking the horses so that they will be ready for whenever the boss gets back. ZackAss tells him to tread carefully because no one is left there to defend him…and Yola seems to have forgotten about him…maybe she has found herself another BF in the city.

Marina is struggling with computer because she can’t concentrate…thinking about Beto and his new squeeze.

Lino is looking over some books to see if what he should study for the area he is interested, When he mentions Don L giving him the day off, Yola is surprised. Since he is having trouble understanding the materials, he is going to ask Anita for help. Yola then mentions that Anita’s b-day is coming up and she wants to make her a little party; she suggests that Lino invite Anita out. Lino will try…

Ms. Tools is sad because Baldo hardly talks to her anymore. When she tells Anita how she pointed out to Baldo that Dami was too attentive with Mago, Anita thinks she should have kept her mouth shut (daughter knows better!) and let people figure things out on their own. Lino arrives and Anita smiles cheek-to-cheek.

Baldo and Mago are out walking around the city and stop for a beer. Mago has noticed that Baldo isn’t comfortable with his presence; so Baldo asks him bluntly if he wants something with Dami. Mago admits that he has probably always loved Dami, but he has always being tied to the memory of his wife. Baldo thinks that Mago should make his feelings known…because Baldo thinks that the third wheel in the relationship is him (Baldo).

Lucreepy tells her father the real reason why Beto wanted to resign. She is afraid that Marina wants Beto back…and Mari probably came to this hospital to snare him up again. Dr. Z doesn’t think Beto will pay Mari any attention, but LucreepySnake tells him that, from what Beto has told her, Marina seems to be the typical jealous, obsessive ex-novia…but she doesn’t want daddy-o to tell Beto that she told him anything.

Beto approaches Marina. He isn’t going to hide anything from her, but Mari doesn’t expect any explanations from him. When Mari mentions that Tori will continue seeing Lucreepy since she probably knows nothing about them, Beto enlightens her that Lucreepy knows everything about them. Beto tells Mari that he only told Lucreep that they had a very nice relationship, not that they got married…and nothing about the baby. Marina points out that BetOhLiar lives on half-truths.

Horti tells Don L that Pru isn’t there. Chooch the Mooch rubs it in that Pru lost no time in going to see her lover. Don L will race over…and Chooch will wait in their apartment to hear the outcome.

Mago thinks that Baldo has won Dami’s love, but Baldo doubts it. He thought things would change with time, but Dami’s attention and care is with Mago…Mago should open his eyes because Dami loves him; and Baldo can’t continue pretending to not see…he won’t come between them anymore. Mago tells Baldo to leave things the way they are, but Baldo wants Dami to be happy and her happiness is with Mago. Baldo is going to get Dami to break up with him.

Ep 70: Part 2 The Chipayate (Kid) Makes an Impression

Anita helps Lino get the info he needs. He mentions her birthday; so she invites him to her party. Lino suggests that they celebrate at the bar where he works…they can invite their friends and family. They chat about her work and get too close for comfort.

In Honolulu, Vanesa sits in her robe looking like she was run over by a big rig. Chains comes out admiring his big doll (not that one...I meant Vanesa ). When she complains that he was a little too rough, he tells her not to worry; she will have plenty of time to get used to what he likes.

LuSnake goes to see Mari. Beto told her about his relationship with Mari, but LuSnake still wants them to be besties (the keep your enemy close thing, ya know?). Mari prefers they not be besties and anything of the sort….anyway they have nothing in common.

Beto gives Eric an update. Beto wanted to be friends with Mari, but she doesn’t want anything to do with him. As Eric tells Beto that he should forget about Mari and advises him that LuSnake shouldn’t find out what he still feels for Mari, the Snake slithers by and listens…HISSSSSS!

Don L bangs on Lino’s door. Ms. Tools, carrying Rafy, tells him that no one is home and recognizes him as the man who was there before.

Chooch gets a call from MamaBigRigs who wants to get together for a drink. They talk about the wedding. Chooch’s friends left early, but Mama noticed that they drank all the liquor and were having a good time. Chooch tries to get out of meeting up with MamaBR, but finally concedes...just for a little while cuz she’s got things to do, ya know?

Don L is watching the vecindad when he sees Dami approach and walk in. He follows her in and, when he sees her carrying Rafy, he assumes the baby is Mari’s kid. Dami wonders how Don L found them and thinks Lino must have told him; but Don L assures her that the traitor said nothing…he found this place through his own means. He laughs when he tells her that he thought Pru was having a thing with Lino, but now he knows why Pru spends so much time there. He gets close to Rafy to take a good look, but Dami turns away from him and reminds him that he never wanted anything to do with Marina…so he should leave...Sacate! Dude!

LuSnake tells Beto that Mari doesn’t want to be her friend. When Beto questions why LuSnake is so insistent, LuSnake replies that Mari is an admirable person…the type one wants to get to know (so she can gain her trust and do some stabbing). Beto remarks that Mari doesn’t want his friendship or LuSnake’s friendship, so LuSnake should just drop it. LuSnake thinks Beto still wants Mari, but he denies it, “Clearly, not!, he says. LuSnake doesn’t understand and keeps questioning Beto, but he tells her to stop, he’s had enough.

Mari complains to Rick that Beto wants to continue to be friends…and LuSnake became friends with Vanesa and now wants to do the same with her. She is very grateful to LuSnake for helping Tori…but friends, never!

Lino arrives home and Dami tells him that Don L was there. Lino decides to go talk to him to explain why he lied; he will take the blame so Pru won’t get into problems.

Don L arrives at his lover’s den and tells Chooch that there is no infidelity, Pru spends her time in the vecindad with the baby and Marina. Chooch insists that Pru must have a thing with Lino (wishful thinking).

Dami tells Anita and Ms. Tools about Lino’s dilemma. She needs to call Pru to warn her, but Pru isn’t home.

Ep 70: Part 3 The Chipayate (Kid) Makes an Impression

Doc Limp goes for a session with LuSnake. He needs his problem resolved ASAP. When she asks how long it’s been since he went limp, Doc Mask tells how he ended up in the town and met “HER.” the woman whom he loves intensely. It wasn’t the first time he fell in love, but this woman was different—he wanted to protect her. When he met her when she was an adolescent; and he dedicated himself to educating her and taking care of her, but she fell in love with someone else. When he bangs on the desk, Lu tells him to relax because his anger could be part of the problem. Doc gets frustrated and thinks he has said enough; talking about “her” hurts him. When LuSnake recommends that he maintain a healthy life and eat well, he walks out.

Mari looks into Rick’s eye with an instrument; and he explains what she is seeing. When he tells her that the eyes are the window to the soul, there’s a deep WHOOOSH. She moves back and responds that she was taught that the soul is felt, not seen. There is a pause before he gives her some info on becoming a nurse.

Pru and Angy arrive home. Horti tells Pru to call Dami, but Don L arrives and tells Pru that he knows where she has been spending all her time. He knows because he was there and talked to Dami. Angy takes the blame for Pru going to see Marina’s baby. When Don L threatens to throw out Angy into the streets, Pru tells him that she will be going too…Angy didn’t have to convince her of anything; and if she didn’t tell Don L anything, it’s because he had no interest in knowing about Mari or their grandson. Don L orders Pru into the study.

Rick tells Mari that Encarny wants to go celebrate because she got her license; she wants to buy a car.

In the study, Pru tells Don L that he has nothing to reproach her since he told Lino to spy on her. Don L thinks he had every right because she gave him reason to doubt her. Lino told him what she asked him to tell him…she was only playing along with Don L’s game. When he tells her he saw the kid who has his blood and that Dami didn’t let him see the baby, he tells her to bring him to their house.

Wow Rgv Chick. Thank you for pitching in yet again. Just arrived home, haven't unpacked yet. Lovely to read the recap and know that I can wait until tomorrow to recap myself. Vacation with family was lovely but exhausting. But when it comes to exhausting, you know more than I, Iron Lady. Thanks for taking another one for the team. Sounds like Vanessa has gone from being abused by her mother to being abused by Big Ed.

Love "Doc Limp". Perfect name for our nemesis. Like Chooch too. Rhymes with Mooch.

Thank you Chickie !

MIRADA

I only saw the last half hour of this episode but maybe I’ll watch the rest and come back again.

So the two creepy doctors know each other now. I think if Doc Mask really needs help with his issues down yonder, he should see a male doctor lol I was freaking out hoping he wouldn’t tell Lu the name of the woman he’s “in love” with. But it’ll probably come out sooner or later if he lets Lu treat him, which would not be good for Beto and Marina.

I bet Luis only wants to be around his grandson because since he only cares about name and status, Rafael is an Ocaranza and is the only one to carry on the name. I really hope Beto changes his name eventually. He could either decide to honor his biological parents or just keep Pru’s last name.

And we’ll see if Marina actually agrees to letting Luis see Rafael. There’s likely no chance Luis and Marina will ever accept each other and have a father daughter relationship but maybe being around his grandson will soften Luis up a bit. He needs to thaw out that cold heart of his.

MIRADA

Oh my..."Doc Rapunzel", "Ms. Tools", "MamaBigRigs", "Mari, the Snake", "Chains", Doc Limp", "Lucreepy", "Encarny" and "BetOhLiar".

It really makes me wonder who in the world these people are!!

You are having so much fun - great recap Rgv Chick!

Diana

MIRADA

Thanks, Rgv Chickie, this was fabulous. Thank you also for earlier answering my question about "sácate".

Doc Limp... he has a limp? I hadn't noticed.

I think Baldomero did the right thing, but this TN specializes in the unexpected so we'll see what happens.

I don't think Marina should take, or let Prudy take, baby Rafito to Don Louse. But I think she could invite him to come to where she lives. Sure, it's a small step up from a hovel, and there's always a line for the bathroom (how come we haven't seen anybody on the line?), but she would be on her own territory.

Otherwise let Prudy show him some pictures and let it go at that.

andy

MIRADA

Thank you for another great recap, Rgv Chick! I loved “Doc Limp.” ;-)

The contrast between Lucreepy’s lies and misrepresentations to her father and Beto v.s. nice-guy Baldo who is honestly giving Mago a chance at Damiana, is amazing.

"Marina is struggling with computer because she can’t concentrate…thinking about Beto and his new squeeze. "
But... but .... but ... she insists she is over him and has moved on. Riiiiiight.

Chuch the Mooch is doing her best to drive a wedge between Louse and Pru, and she just can’t win. Bless her heart.

That discussion between Angy & Luis was sort of fun.

Lucreepy’s villana personality is really starting to show itself. Her new name might be Lucrappy.

Ew, so the marriage was consummated. And Vane looked like she wanted to bathe in Clorox. Ed’s comments sounded like he might be into some "different" stuff where Vane is a more traditional type person. Her face and body language said 'rape victim.'

Ana is getting the wrong idea about Lino’s interest. Telenovela crisis #39. Next…?

Andy, ITA. Let Louse come to Marina's house to see the baby.

Welcome back, JudyB. There’s no place like home.

Think you Ms Chick. Fun recap. I think
Angsty has fun getin in Donny's face.
She acts ignorant but she's not, and I
Don't think he knows that. So she has fun with him. I they both are Havin faith with their parts in this tn.

When I saw van the girl looked like she's been raped. She was rubbin her arm. She probly got bruses on her body
Which I don't want to see. I really want her to get out of that marriage.
It ain't healthy. And the mooch need to Get up off her butt and go get a job. And stop moochin off her daughter
But as long as said daughter continues
To allow the mooch to mooch, she gonna
Mooch.

Andy,it's sweet that you hoped against
Hope, but the lucreepy is carppy. And
I think we will see more of that in The coming episodes. And she's wrong about marina, she's not typical. Tho she maybe jealous, she's not gonna go
All lifetime on anybody like maybe she
Might do. And I think she is right marina does want beto back. And she'll
Have him after all the crap is over.
I like rick but I can't see him and marina as endgame. A lot of stuff will go down before these 2 get back in the
Throws of passion(marina & beto).

So papi wants rafy in the house. He's
Got to know Mari won't allow that with
Out her. This is gonna be interesting to see. More fun to be had with lousy & angsty.

Sweet Anita is gonna get her heart broken.
Baldomero's is already. But Ms tools is able to heal that broken heart if she stop thinkin bout Margo.

Ms Chicky this was fun.Thank you much.

MIRADA

Nina - I think Ms. Tools really wants Baldo, not Margo. When she invited Margo out on that not a date, it was probably to be neighborly but it also looked like a test....of Damiana. Baldo is available, Marg has a job and house, back at La. Añoranza. Baldo is already here 100%, and an able bodied handyman.

"MIRADA":

Doris: I'm assuming nobody wants Don Psycho to see the baby ?

MIRADA
Steve - that is right. The Louse is not a psycho, but he has not been a nice guy and behaves more like a jerk.

MIRADA
Thanks Andy, Doris, TF,, Nina and JudyB!

TF, "I bet Luis only wants to be around his grandson because since he only cares about name and status..." I'm sure you're right. Carrying on his name is about the only thing that the Louse cares about, other than his trysts with his Choochie Hoochie mama.

Andy, "Doc Limp... he has a limp? I hadn't noticed." Yup, he does, it's the smaller leg you can't see :-D

Doris and Nina, the first thing that crossed my mind when I first saw Vanesa was that Chainman had raped her, but when she told him that he was little too rough, that idea went out the window. I think he likes the rough stuff; had he raped her, I'm sure she would have said something like, "you're an animal" or something similar. Andy, I agree, it's "poor Vanesa" now, unfortunately, she did make that bed that she is now lying in.

Doris, "I think Ms. Tools really wants Baldo, not Margo." Spot on! Ms. Tools has it bad for Baldo. She was all depressed because Baldo hadn't talked to her since she pointed out Dami's attention to Mago. She used a good tactic though since Baldo, the galan of the show, is now handing Dami to Mago on a silver platter.

I don't think Marina should allow the Louse to see the baby AT ALL! He never accepted her as his daughter; so why give him the satisfaction of seeing his grandson?
JudyB, I'm SO glad you're back safe and sound...and even happier to hand back your torch.

MIRADA

Rgv Chickie, thanks again for the recap and thanks for your helpful and fun comments. I hope we don't lose you completely to doña Flor and her buddies.

JudyB, it's nice to see you back, I hope you're largely recovered from your vacation   :-)

Re poor Vanesa and the Chainman, what happened to all that spoiling her and giving her pretty much whatever she wanted? Married now, don't have to be nice anymore?

This TN is just contrarian enough to have Damiana actually prefer Baldo, and all her annoyance with him lately be because of her frustration with his jealousy of Margo. I hope that's not the case, because Damiana with Margo, Baldomero with Sra. Tools just works better for everybody.

The actor playing Don Louse may be enjoying the role, but the role is that of a very not nice person. He has flashes of decency, and his bits with Angustias are funny, but still not a nice or very good person. Beto is not my favorite person in this TN, but it's a surprise that he turned out as well as he has. Credit to Prudy probably.

In any case Don Louse is Baby Rafa's grandfather and should not be completely out of the baby loop, but should not be allowed too much contact or control either.

Well, having solved most of the world's problems, I think it's time for lunch.

:-)

FLOR
Ep 55: Part 1 Surprise! New Kid in the House!

Flor is in church talking to Elpi. She doesn’t think that the solution is to send Val off to the next world; she is very conflicted and feels guilty since Teo is such a wonderful and honest man. Elpi advises her not mention anything to Teo since he would not be prepared to hear something like this. He offers advice as a friend and the father of her brother—this is not the time to tell Teo. He asks her to pray much about it and she will find the answer.

Val complains to Chile and wonders why Flor is having such a difficult time since he loves her so much and she knows it. Chile points out that Val is a ghost and Teo is alive…flesh and bone. Val still thinks he needs to give Flor time to think; it hurts him to see Flor going through such a bad time and he can’t help her. Meanwhile, Flor is with Mariana who also advises her that this is not the time to tell Teo the truth; what Flor does need to do is get Val out of her life once and for all. Flor retorts that it’s not easy because she feels like she is killing Val again. Mariana then mentions that she is having her own problems…and she is realizing that she must stop thinking of herself and concentrate on Xochitl. Just then, Mariana gets a call from Elsa who has just arrived in town with Diego.

Rose and Tere go to Nestor to report the merchandise as missing; they need to find the merchandise because they have the fashion show that evening. Nestor brushes them off since he is no longer chief. They will have to wait until the new chief arrives so that they can proceed with their report.

Mariana, Flor and Aure meet with Elsa who didn’t get the message that Mariana had called off Diego’s trip to spend time with Xochitl. Elsa is in a bind because she was hoping to leave Diego there so that she could go work for a couple of weeks in the USA. Flor chimes in that Elsa has all of her support and will help however she can. Upstairs, Diego tells Xochitl that maybe, if she tells her parents why she stole things and that she is sorry, her parents will let him stay there. Later, Xochitl confesses to her parents, but her parents are firm that she needs a punishment. Xochitl pulls at their heartstrings as she pleads with them to help her friend, Diego.

Tere suggests to Rose that they postpone the fashion show, but Rose responds that it’s too late since the CKLASS reps are about to arrive. They will be laughing stock of the town. As they talk and Rose cries, Vicente watches from a distance feeling guilty.

Flor talks to Elsa who finally admits that Val never knew about Diego. Flor offers to take care of Diego since Elsa has no one else to turn to.

The CKLASS reps arrive in town. Tere and Ati greet them as if nothing were wrong. As they talk, Vicente pulls Tere away and tells her that he knows where the merchandise is.

Flor takes Diego home with her and shows her the room he will be using—the one Teo had decorated as a nursery. After Flor leaves him alone, Diego looks at Val’s picture so Val appears since Diego was thinking of him…and Val realizes that Diego is in Flor’s house.

Rose goes to cry on Marga’s shoulder…she is a failure and everyone knows that. Rose thinks she deserves it because it’s karma…she hasn’t been a good person especially to Marga. Marga encourages her and tells her that everything will turn out well, but Rose insists that she has always been the stinker in the family. Marga assures Rose that she is very special; she hasn’t been the best of mothers, but she loves her. Rose has a pity party because no one loves her; Marga tells her that she is strong and beautiful.

Val talks to Flor about taking care of Diego; so Flor explains Elsa’s situation. Later, Elsa says good-bye to Diego and thanks Flor for all that she is doing.

FLOR
Ep 55: Part 2 Surprise! New Kid in the House!

Flor takes Diego inside. Val is there admiring the family he has always wanted. After Flor asks Diego to go get some lemonade, Val wonders why Flor agreed to take care of Diego; he thinks she wants the perfect family, but not with Val…with Teo. When he tells Flor that she is testing the waters to see if Teo will be a good father, Flor insists that she is just helping Elsa.

In the evening, everyone has arrived for the fashion show. Jovita is up on a balcony with Nestor and Vicente hoping that they cancel the show. Vicente sneaks away and goes to offer his help to get the models ready. Mariana arrives with the academy dancers to be models…and the show goes on!

At the border, Elsa has been detained and questioned about having drugs. As they check her suitcase, the DEA agent finds drugs within her clothes. Elsa claims that those are not her clothes, but the agent tells her there is nothing more she can do; she is being arrested for drug trafficking.

Teo arrives home and meets Diego. Flor explains that Diego is Val’s son and that she agreed to help Elsa by taking care of Diego for a couple of weeks. Teo is speechless. After Flor introduces Diego to Teo, Teo wants to leave to the fashion show to be with Xochitl, but Teo wants some time to talk; so Flor calls Mariana to come for Diego. Val chides Flor for letting Diego go off by himself just so that she can talk to Teo. Flor explains that what she is doing is trying to communicate with her husband…something Val was never good at.

Tito tries to convince Lola to go to the fashion show, but she doesn’t want to see anyone, especially not her Aunt Jovita.

Diego tells Xochitl that he doesn’t know what he will do since Teo doesn’t like him; maybe Xochitl’s parents will allow him to stay with them. Mariana approaches as does Ati who is the photographer for the event. After he takes some pictures of the children, Mariana rushes them off and gives Ati a somber look.

After the show, Lalo asks Gris why she didn’t help out as a model; so she explains that she was not in the mood…she doesn’t feel like smiling. When she mentions that she has already found a doctor that can help her, Lalo insists that he should have a say-so in the decision, but Gris retorts that it is her body and her decision. Later, Lalo goes to Oscar and asks to talk to him privately.

Teo is not upset about Diego staying; he is just surprised…and he feels odd since Diego is Val’s son. Flor explains how she had to help Elsa. Teo understands, but he doesn’t think it will be easy to be around Diego. While Teo goes for coffee, Val tells Flor that Teo is as cold as an iceberg…he doesn’t want to have Diego there. When Teo returns, Teo tells Flor that he has thought about it and he is fine with Diego staying there; it is the right thing to do. As they hug, Val watches and frowns. Teo then wants to go upstairs and look at the nursery to see what adjustments need to be made. Val whispers to Flor that this is not going to work out.

"I think they both are Havin fun
With their parts in this tn".

Rgv chick, thank you for the most excellent recap!

Your "voice" is a lyrical, bright beacon that shines and enlightens. Even when the subject matter is rather dark, you always know just what to say.

I'm at such a disadvantage -it's hard to judge Teo's reaction without actually seeing it. I can understand he is surprised and that having Val's son stay might be uncomfortable for him. I mean, first Val's wife, then his son, 'nuff said. But none of that should matter in the way he treats Diego. The situation itself may be uncomfortable, being around Diego should not be.

"Upstairs, Diego tells Xochitl that maybe, if she tells her parents why she stole things and that she is sorry, her parents will let him stay there" hurt my heart. I can't imagine being a child who thinks they have been abandoned (not intentionally but with the same result nevertheless).

“Rose thinks she deserves it because it’s karma…she hasn’t been a good person”. Oh my Rose – is THAT an understatement. Cruel, heartless and vindictive. “Marga tells her that she is strong and beautiful”. Blech. Yup, no tears to be shed here.

"She doesn’t think that the solution is to send Val off to the next world; she is very conflicted and feels guilty since Teo is such a wonderful and honest man". Yet, but not a perfect man. And how would she ever explain the unexplainable???

this was great Rgv Chick - thank you so much!

Novela Fashion Rules

Rule #1: Bad girls always dress with big hair, little skirts. As a matter of fact, the length of their hair is ALWAYS longer than the length of their skirts.

Rule #2: The protagonista always gets her clothes at Goodwill or the Salvation Army. When she dresses up, she will go to Target, Wal-Mart, or some comparable budget shop.

Rule #3: The bigger the breast implant, the smaller the top.

Rule #4: The girl with the biggest breasts is the most evil viper in the story.

Rule #5: The protagonista will ALWAYS get a makeover at some point in the story.

Rule#6: The leading man always looks stylish not matter what his social standing happens to be.

There are a few other rules; I just can't remember them now. I'm sure others out there will post them as they come up."

MIRADA

HOW does Doc Mask show up everywhere? Where exactly was he when he was looking down on that little celebration party?

WHY do they keep showing Don Louse tossing back another drink? Can't the writers think of something else for him to do? Unless he winds up with liver problems before the end of this TN all this tossing back was just filler.

And an entire episode with no poor Vanesa? It's not fair!

Doris, thanks for reposting these old "rules". Helps explain why guys will often defend the antagonistas.

"MIRADA":

Andy: Like I said before, Vanessa made her bed & will need to lie in it!

She needs to feel more PAIN & Karma before she gets redeemed, which I doubt, but let's see if Lino will be there when the inevitable anvil hits.

MIRADA #71 SHE SMOKED HIM LIKE A CHEAP CIGAR

Intro:

Whew, Hurricane Yola just blew in and dumped Erick on his noble tush, leaving him "plantado" in the restaurant after learning his best friend is that scoundrel Beto. This was the best part of the episode, other than the other Hurricane, Hilda, and the various humiliations of Chucha who can't seem to get anywhere yet with her nefarious plans.

Otherwise, there was lots of "circling the drain" with each character trying to convince another character to feel differently than they actually feel. Kind of exhausting, when you think about it.

Before I start in on the play by play, let me take issue with one of Ruby's Rules..."the girl with the biggest breasts is the most evil viper." Clearly, the episode winner in this contest is Prudencia, who cleared up any doubts about THAT when she wore that amazing red dress to the wedding. She's leaving all the other females in the dust on that score. Doubtful that Luis wants to leave that comfy marital pillow anytime soon, regardless of Chucha's pushing.

But back to today's events. PART 1

Our don Luis (redeemable or not? hard to decide) is trying to convince Pru to bring him the little chilpayate [kid] without having to go through that annoying middle step of apologizing to Marina for his loathsome behavior in the past. NOT his style to ask forgiveness. But man, he's dying to see how much that little squirt resembles him. Because surely he does! How could he not? being an Ocaranza and all.

But Marina can't forget how he not only threw her out of the house, he then dragged her off to Doc Mask's lair where she was allegedly ravished, lost her innocence and saw her happy marriage go down the drain. Yep, pretty big stuff to just shrug off and say "Yeah, snuggle up and be the granddaddy you swine." So that plan is churning but not advancing at the moment.

How about Hilda's wish to be Chucha's next New Best Friend? Well, Lord knows, Hilda is a game gal. She's got a neighborhood bar where she's known and loved and the little pistol can down the tequilas even faster than Chooch Mooch and Luis. (Is tequila a product placement in this one?) But Choochie couldn't get out of there fast enough. Especially when some dubious fellas want to join the Good Time Gals' party. Too bad. I love me some Hilda and would like to see more of her. Very entertaining is our Hilda.

How about Lucreepy and her game plan? Well, she overheard Marina's plans to have dinner with Doc Hair and his mom and she's playing this up to Beto like it's Love in Bloom. Or at least Get Ahead in Life for Marina. Whatever. Beto is troubled by it and will clearly have trouble studying tonight for his test.

Lino is sweating his meeting with don Luis, figuring he's about to get fired for lying to his boss about Prudencia's whereabouts but Luis is giving him another chance. Making it clear that Lino OWES HIM...and Lino correctly intuits there may be pressure to help him get his hands on Baby Rafa. Who by the way is making up for his past silence and cried quite a bit in this episode.

Even Pru is weakening and thinking of bringing the baby to Lousy Luis, but Angustias warns her about the risks of going along with a husband like hers.

Meanwhile, Marina, Dona Encarnacion, Damiana and Doc Yearning are all having a grand old time at dinner, while yes, Andy, the omnipresent Doc Mask seems to be gazing at them through a skylight. CREEPY.

MIRADA #71 SHE SMOKED HIM LIKE A CHEAP CIGAR

Part 2

Back in the vecindad, opinions vary on whether or not Marina should let Louse see his grandchild. Lino thinks it might soften the old tyrant's heart. Margarito nixes that..."how little you know him son." Prudencia though is softening. Angustias not a jot or a whittle. Even Damiana jumps in with the tired old "your rancor and unforgiveness is hurting you Marina". Marina begs to differ. I don't care about don Luis one way or another. But I'm NOT going to let him see his grandchild. Even little Rafa is wailing in the background. Case closed! For now.

Meanwhile, Chooch Mooch, having escaped the neighborhood bar and Hilda, is trailing around some godforsaken neighborhood calling Doc Mask with the info on Marina's address, work location, vision status etc. It's old news to the Doc and he blows her off as effectively as she once dissed him. So she assumes he no longer cares for Marina. Alas no, he then delivers the most scary line ever....

MY LOVE FOR HER IS ETERNAL.

Yikes. And there's another Eternal Love brewing. Lucreepy is telling Dad she's not only in love with Beto, she's decided she wants to "formar una familia" with this dolt. Serious business. He's thinking she needs to work elsewhere then, but she assures him that Marina is all wrapped up with Doc Bazán, so there should be no collegial tension between the Beto and his former friend. Wishful thinking on Lucreepy's part. But there's a lot of wishful thinking going on at the moment. Business as usual.

Wishful Thinker Erick is still trying to narrow down which of the three Yola's on Beto's cellphone is his next romantic victim. Evidently this is way more important than the fact that he's skipped out on his work in the Emergency Department. But Dad doesn't think so. When he comes to check on him and the nurse tells him Sonny Boy has left the building because he wasn't feeling well, Dad reasonably asks "Then why wasn't he treated HERE?" Methinks Erick's days as an Emergency Doc are numbered.

How about his days as Yola's next swain? Well, he DOES call her. And Yola is brusque at first but he persists and Marina, in the background, encourages her to at least give the guy a chance. What harm can come out of going out to dinner?

What's our Choochie up to during all this time? Still hammering away at Luis, trying to discourage him from any interest in his grandson. I AM INTERESTED IN HIM, HE HAS MY BLOOD! "But also the icky blood of Doc Sotero" whines Susanita. "So what? He's an Ocaranza! And don't start with your opinions about my marriage either. What we have is different."

Okay, I know Luis is a Louse. Pure and simple. But when he shuts down Choochie, you just have to love him. I do anyway.

Again, Doc Mask steals the show though with his ominous gym exercises in his apartment. He's holding onto a bar and lifting his legs, thinking of strengthening his abdominals although actually he's really tightening his hip flexors. And when those babies are too tight, they really hurt. Here's hoping his do. But he does look dreadfully in form. Strong and ready to do damage. No more "limping" for our guy!

MIRADA #71 SHE SMOKES HIM LIKE A CHEAP CIGAR

Part 3

More wishful thinking. Doña Chole is gazing fondly down at Baldomero and Toribio arriving home from the market. She's afraid she's alienated him by telling him Damiana's still sweet on Margarito. And wants to walk that back a little. Maybe they're just good friends. Nopis. The truth hurts. But Baldomero has a plan to break up with Dam and leave the field clear for Marg. See, he wants her to do the leaving, so he knows she isn't staying with him out of compassion. Chole is even more deeply smitten when she realizes what a prince Baldo is. They sure didn't make enough guys like you! Whatever the plan is, we'll learn about it later folks. Although I agree with Dona Toolbelt, why not just tell Damiana like it is. But that's not the telenovela way.

More churning at the big house. Three women sitting around wondering when and if Don Luis will be home for dinner. "Who knows," muses Pru. "He's so busy these days." "So are you, Susana," glares Angustias. "Well, I have to distract myself now that Vanessa is gone."

Enough of that. The big guy arrives and wants to express his outrage at his dear wife's deception: Imagine, she's been in touch with Marina all this time! Behind my back!

Pru would like to continue this marital discussion in his office but he's ready to keep venting with a larger audience. And Choocie is ready to jump right in, opining that the "muchachita" has been very disrespectful of her dead dad.

"That "muchachita" is MY DAUGHTER" snaps Prudencia. And flounces out to the office. Chooch Mooch wants Luis to make Pru treat her better, but Luis is having none of it. You overstepped yourself Lady! And THAT IS MY WIFE! (Okay, still loving Luis when he does that.)

While that fire is simmering, how's it going with Erick and Yola? She's decided to meet him for drinks and dinner, with Lino lurking in the background as her chaperone. And she's dazzling him with her difference. Not at all like the others he's dated. For one thing, no alcohol. Just an aguita de horchata, thank you. And when he moves in to sit beside her, she quickly jumps over to a different divan. Okay. He's definitely intrigued.

MIRADA #71 SHE SMOKED HIM LIKE A CHEAP CIGAR

Yes, the date seems to be going well, in spite of Yola's shyness, until Erick confides that Beto Ocaranza is his best buddy. "Your best friend is that dolt?!" End of evening Mr. Erick. Yola stands, glares, and stomps out. And Erick is dazzled. Evidently his first turndown ever. By a decisive, fiery, natural, direct, gorgeous little brunette! Smoked like a cheap cigar indeed. What's not to like?

Meanwhile Erasmo has called Lino. Hears Yola in the background and surmises that she's dating someone in the city, just like Zack insinuated. Oh my.

Okay, back to the Big House. Luis is still trying to wheedle Prudencia into sneaking the chilpayate in to the house without him having to do something unthinkable...like apologize for past loathsome behavior. She's gently holding her own. Not. Doing. It. Honey.

And Angustias is holding her own with Susana. Why are you still here? Marina is out of the picture. Vanessa is off on a honeymoon with her new husband. Why are you still hanging around? Trying to be the next señora of the house?

Choochie does her usual obfuscating. This is like my family. I don't want to be alone. Don Luis has offered his support. Etc. etc. Angustias isn't fooled for a minute.

And neither is Yola. She's back in the vecindad telling Marina that Erick is the same kind of lowlife as Beto [cortados con la misma tijera]

Anybody fooled? Not me. I'm saying these two end up together. We'll just have to find someone else for Erasmo. Anita perhaps?

Angustias is dealing with her old adversary Luis. He's now blaming her for Prudencia developing a spine. She's reminding him that Pru is a good wife and respects her husband. BUT DOES HE RESPECT HER? Clearly Angy is up to date on the shenanigans twixt Chooch and Louse, even if she doesn't have proof yet.

We end the episode with one last visit to the Sardine House where Dam, Marina, Yola and Baby Rafa are all sleeping in very close quarters. And Marina is wondering if she really should forgive dear old Dad and let him see his nieto.

Well, this is a big question. Weigh in on this and anything else on your mind Dear Patio. It's good to be back with you.

FLOR
Ep 56: Part 1 Diego and Teo Get Close

The fashion show ends with Rose and Tere on the stage thanking everyone as they applaud her. At Flor’s house, Flor remembers about the fashion show, but it is too late; she knows Rose will be upset. At the shop, customers crowd in to look at he catalogs. Teo suggests that they go to the fashion despite the hour, but Flor knows that Rose will make a scene. They are saved by Mariana who has brought back Diego.

Jovita slaps Vicente on the shoulder and calls him a Judas’ she knows it was him who betrayed them. Vicente tells her that he was not going to allow the show to fail because Tere and Rose just want their business to succeed. He suggests to Jovita that she drop her schemes because that poison kills the soul.

At Flor’s house, Teo has prepared some type of porridge for Diego and tries to get him to eat it. Flor is in another room with Mariana who asks if Val has been around. Flor admits that Val is all over the place, but she feels bad for him because he is having to watch his son get close to the man whom he is jealous of. In the kitchen, Diego eats some of the porridge that is supposedly delicious; so he asks Teo to join him since it’s so “good.”. Teo hesitates, but ends up eating a spoonful which he almost gags on and has to go spit out. Val watches and smiles proudly at his son who keeps telling Teo that it is very good. Later, Diego wonders about his mother since he hasn’t heard from her. Teo tries calling the number Elsa left, but the phone is off or not in a service area. Teo goes up to the bedroom where Diego asks Teo if he knew his father, Val, and what his father was like since he didn’t get to meet him. Val smirks as he wonders how Teo will answer. Teo struggles at first, but tells Diego that his father was fun and since Val was also in love with Flor and Flor loved him, he must have been a good guy.

Rose and Tere take their party to the casino to celebrate. Paris approaches Aure and tells him that he should get over Mariana since she already is seeing someone else. Later, Sami approaches paris and tells her to tread carefully with Aure what has changed for the better. Paris insists that she is going after Aure since he is single now.

After Diego falls asleep, Teo goes to his bedroom and tells Flor that they should try ot find a way to talk to Elsa since she hasn’t communicated with Diego. Flor also thinks its odd that Elsa hasn’t called.

Gris is having dinner with her parents who are happy that she has nothing to do with Lalo. They are very proud that she will be joining that dance company and not ruining her life like their friends daughter who got pregnant.

Flor tries to call Elsa but has no success. Val is in Diego’s bedroom watching him when it occurs to him that he can contact Diego through his dreams. Diego dreams of his father, Val, who is playing football with him. When Val suddenly disappears from the dream, Diego calls out to him while he frantically looks for him. Teo hears Diego crying out and goes to him. Diego tells Teo that he had a nightmare and doesn’t want to stay alone; so Teo takes him to sleep with him and Flor.

Gris is walking around town when Celeste’s program comes on. Celeste is talking to Lalo who tells her that he wants to show Gris that he wants to fight for her…he will work day and night for her and the baby…it is something that gives him much hope and happiness. He wants them to work together to make a decision; he doesn’t care what she decides; he just wants to be with Gris and support her.

Chile enters his funeral home as he chides Val for not telling him that his nephew, Diego is in town. Val asks Chile to help him by telling Diego all about him.

At the DEA office, Elsa admits to being paid to carry in the drugs. She pleads with the agent to let her return to her home, but the agent tells her that she will spend many years in jail. The agent offers Elsa a phone so that she can call her family.

FLOR
Ep 56: Part 2 Diego and Teo Get Close

Chile goes to Flor’s house to spend time with Diego, but Flor tells him that Teo and Diego already have plans. Teo wanted to take Diego to some type of museum, but allows Diego to choose whatever he wants to do…which is to play football. Outside, as Diego runs to kick the ball to Teo, Val joins in the kick which sends the ball straight into Teo’s forehead sending him to the ground. Diego and Flor run to Teo to help him up. After Diego apologizes, he asks for a group hug…as Val watches then fades away in disappointment.

At Mariana’s house, Xochitl comes to the kitchen looking very sad; she had another accident. She asks Mariana not to tell her father.

Teo, Flor and Diego return home. When Flor gets after Teo and Diego for playing inside, Diego tells her not to get angry and calls her “bonita,” just like Val used to. After Teo takes Diego to the kitchen, Diego asks for his mother again, so Teo lies and tells him that his mother called while he was taking a bath.

Lalo catches up to Gris in town. She tells him that she didn’t go through with the abortion, but she hasn’t given up the idea.

Jovita worries that they might end up in jail for stealing Rose’s merchandise, but Nestor assures her that there were no witnesses…and if Vicente talks, it’ll be his word against theirs.

Flor takes Rose a plant as a peace offering for not having gone to her fashion show. Rose is back to her arrogant self and wishes that the day would come when Flor would put her first before everything else.

Val goes to complain to Chile that Diego seems to be getting close to Teo. He is feeling so many bad feelings…and he is only a ghost. Val thought he could win Flor back, but Flor has chosen to live her life with Teo who is even starting to look like a good guy to Val.

Teo tells Flor that he worries that Elsa has not called them. After he tries again without success, Teo suggests that they try to find someone who can go look for her, but Flor thinks they should wait since it has only been one day.

Flor summons Val and asks him to try to find Elsa, but Val can’t because he only goes to places that he is familiar with and Elsa would have to think about him and summon him. Val goes to Elsa’s home and looks around, but finds nothing. Meanwhile, Teo tells Mica about Elsa. Mica has a patient that works with the migration office; so she will try to get him to help. Later, Teo calls Flor and tells her that the migration office confirmed that Elsa did cross the border. Flor worries because she did notice that Elsa was somewhat nervous when she left. Teo thinks that the only option they have now is to go look for Elsa at the address she left them.

MIRADA

"SHE SMOKED HIM LIKE A CHEAP CIGAR> She's baaack! And what a homecoming. Loved it Judy.

And continuing to hit the ground running, "Hurricane Yola just blew in and dumped Erick on his noble tush, leaving him "plantado" in the restaurant..." and "comfy marital pillow". Wow. I am impressed.

Just wonderful Judy.

Diana

FLOR

Thanks for the recap Rgv Chick. Being away for over a week has not aided my comprehension of the plot, but it does seem that Val is coming to an understanding that Flor is moving on with her life and that Teo is not the evil rival he once thought he was. Some bittersweet realizations as Val sees the gap between Life and Death.

FLOR

And yet another outstanding Flor recap today Rgv Chick. I will just add my praise to my earlier comment and add a few more.

“Teo takes him to sleep with him and Flor” answered my earlier concerns – Teo is indeed taking Diego to heart. And what Val thought so selfishly would work to help him is only serving to bring Diego closer to Teo.

“Elsa admits to being paid to carry in the drugs”. She must have felt she had no choice but she will pay dearly.

“After Diego apologizes, he asks for a group hug…as Val watches then fades away in disappointment”. Sorry Val, you got what you deserve.

“Rose is back to her arrogant self and wishes that the day would come when Flor would put her first before everything else”. Rose is the most selfish person. Ever.

Your descriptions are so vivid I could really envision this in my mind’s eye.
I am concerned for Elsa but relieved Diego has found a place.

Thank you for spending so much of your valuable time making ours so enjoyable!

Diana

MIRADA

Thank you, Judy, for your recap. Great title, too! You have not lost your touch while you were gone, and you just amaze with how quickly you get these recaps up!!!

The only difference that I see with the Telenovela Rules is that Pru’s cleavage looked real. Most villanas’ flotation devices are so obviously fake, one might look for a product placement logo on them. Or a plastic surgeon’s billboard somewhere in the background.

” Very entertaining is our Hilda.” Speak like Yoda you can! LOL
Hilda was really tossing them back, wasn’t she?!? I never clearly saw a label, so probably not product placement. Darn. I could have marked off another Bingo square.

Great moment when Don L basically said to Chuch the Mooch, “She IS my wife (and you’re just … ahem).”

Angsty serving Chu her shots and asking why she is still sticking around Chez Ocaranza was great! Angsty has it all figured out.

Doc Mask’s scar tissue looked like it was becoming unattached around his eye today. Makeup dept. probably said, “ Ay caray, just let it go. The guy has lost his marbles anyway.”

No, no Erick + Yola. Nopis. Erick doesn’t even want to be a doctor, and I’m okay with that, but trying to get fired from the hospital by just taking off puts him in loser/bad news territory. Yola deserves someone better than that.

JudyB is back on the patio! Girl it left the ball part and went into orbit.

"Chooch mooch want Luis to make pru treat her better". Seriously bitch? You Ridin That woman's husband in her own house and you got the nerve to demand Respect? She need to be bitch slapped.
And I'm thinking that Could be comin when pru finds out about that cheap affair, oh she'll find out, yall know it. People like them will always get exposed. The sheer arrogance of the both of em!

The creep in the mask!
"MY LOVE FOR MARINA IS ETERNAL". Oboy!
He's the type of guy that does the murder/suicide thing. Marina needs to be protected. Pronto!

Lucreepy is obsessive about beto. She
Is clingy. Beto is gonna have to fight
For his life to get away from that train wreck.

This is getting gooder n gooder.
Thank you JudyB, and welcome back!:-)

MIRADA ^^^ABOVE.

MIRADA

JudyB, welcome back, and thank you very much for this fine recap.

"Our don Luis (redeemable or not? hard to decide)..." By the end of the TN, I think 'yes' for the writers, they'll have him redeemed and forgiven; I think they have planned a redemption for him all along. For me, sure, but first I want to see him wear a hair shirt for a few months until Holy Week when he takes part in a Passion Play wherein he is continually flogged and then nailed to a cross in the hot sun for several hours. We can skip the lance in the side bit because I'm all about forgiving him.

But he should pay penance.

I am really upset that we didn't get an update on our honeymooners. At this point I couldn't care less about Hilda. That may change, but for now I just want to know how Vane is doing.

I gather that some here think Lino and Anita are not endgame. Maybe not, but I'm not writing off anybody in this TN. Even Doc Masked Limpy Scarface might wind up with a consolation prize. I'm enjoying how this TN keeps me guessing. Other TNs I was pretty sure I knew exactly how things would work out... and was often wrong, but at least for a while I was pretty smug. Not with this one, except that I think and hope the writers are not going to give us any nasty ending.

andy

Goooood Morning Patio! Nice to be back with you and to dish the dirt together on this one.

Diana...Glad you enjoyed the title. It came from the opinion of one fellow on how a recent political debate played out. I thought it was a hilariously funny description of the interchange.

Doris...I agree. Right now Eric is a total waste of oxygen. And leaving the Emergency department understaffed is grievously irresponsible. But telenovelas seem to love having feisty, strong heroines shape up lazy toads and I think this is where it's headed. But maybe not. We shall see. And yes, for sure Pru's equipment is real. The slope is entirely natural (reminiscent of long discussions with Dr. Carlos on past telenovelas on whose were real and whose were surgical)

Nina...As always, you tell it like it is. "You ridin' that husband in her own house..." was my absolute fave! And since you pointed out that Lucrecia is "clingy" I think we can add that name to the list. Lucreepy and now Luclingy. Done! Prudencia may well leave don Luis in the dust when she learns about the affair. The old Pru, who winced and blinked and covered herself up in shawls and big sweaters has changed into a new, sexier, stronger version. Not likely to be a forgive and forget type wife when the stuff hits the fan.

Andy....Like you, I was concerned that we got no update on our wee Vanessa trapped in a Honolulu hotel room with a Honeymoon Boor. That initial wedding night did not bode well. And oh my, what a classic penance you've worked out for our Burly Bad Boy. I can see that, but somehow I can't see Doc Mask ending up with anybody. But still...with some plastic surgery, counseling and the love of a good woman...who knows? As you said, this TN is keeping us guessing.

Have a great day Patio...those we've heard from and those we've not. Shaping up to be another hot one here, but nowhere near as hot as Grand Cayman where I spent the last week. Being near the equator in late June is SIZZLING. But being with family is all worth it.

MIRADA

JudyB, I missed your snarktastic recaps. The snark just seems second nature to you and I just eat it up. I just finished mowing the grass after running errands, so I'm already pooped. I was looking forward to reading the comments and I certainly was NOT disappointed...great comments and insight from everyone. I think we all share the same wavelength because you all have already addressed everything I could have touched on and then some!

Have a great day!

MIRADA #73 THE PLOT SICKENS

Intro:

Wow, things are getting murky in Mirada Land. Susana has been a witch from the get-go. We all had a bad feeling about Lucrecia, not to mention the obviously messed up Doc Sotero, but now we see don Luis (redeemable?) hatching a truly evil plan. And after snookering some of us in (me, Prudencia and even Marina) into thinking he was having a change of heart...a glacially slow change of heart...but a change of heart nonetheless!-- he actually has something much more diabolical in mind--taking the child away from Marina. Whew. I'm absolutely gasping with surprise and horror. Good thing I'm not watching this late at night. So here's what led up to the terrifying conclusion of this episode.

Part 1

The writers heard Andy's plea for more info on Vanessa and married life and we got it. She continues to be abused, not just in bed but at dinner time. She'd like to eat at an interesting vegan restaurant, or at least at some place culturally exotic. He wants hamburgers. You know, the stuff that normal people eat. When she protests that before marriage he would let her choose, he brusquely informs her that it's all different now that they're locked in Holy Matrimony. Are any of us hoping Big Ed is washed away by a riptide? I'm pretty sure Vanessa is.

Back in the vecindad life seems a little happier. Doña Chole is gushing over Anita's birthday and urging her to let Lino know she's interested in him as more than a friend. Hey girl! it's modern times. You can take the first step now! Just then Lino arrives with a lovely birthday bouquet and a reminder that the whole gang is getting together for a celebration in the bar tonight. As far as Mom is concerned, that's proof positive that Lino really really likes Anita. Maybe just a push more and we'll have Lift Off. Anita looks hopeful. And happy.

Marina isn't sure she can attend the party but Damiana pushes her not only to go, but to invite Doc Bazán and his mamita as well. Margarito will babysit Rafael. Yola meanwhile expresses concern about the coolness that seems to have arisen between Baldomero and Damiana. The latter brushes it off. Nothin' to see here.

Okay. Prepare to enter into Darkness. Lucrecia learns from Beto that Erick's been bounced out of Emergency and demoted to overseeing the Hospital Pharmacy. So, he has access to all the prescribed drugs, right? Clearly something is afoot and later we see her accessing the records with something evil in mind. I tried to read the notation she was viewing. It seemed to be patient info in the A's, but that's all I could tell. Our Lucreepy is veering into Lucriminal.

Meanwhile our burly bad boy don Luis has shown up at Marina's front door. And in the wink of an eye, he and Marina are into it [pelando la piña]. She's reminding him that he never really accepted her as his child. He'd adopt her but not recognize her as his own. He defends his actions by saying he raised Beto, he educated him, he taught him how to be a man (and how did THAT work out?) and considers him his son. But okay, if you have to bring up past mistakes, I understand your rejection, he concedes. But let's move past that. It's the present and future of your baby that counts.

Side note: Psychologists say that abusers want to move on quickly from their mistakes. Victims, however, have long memories. That certainly seems to be the case here.

Don Luis grabs Marina's hands, looks at the veins, reminds her that Ocaranza blood flows in those very veins and also in the veins of his grandchild. So how about it? Will you let me get to know my nieto?

Margarito and Yola have come in to monitor the goings on but Luis persuades them to let the two of them talk in peace. Throughout, he has loomed meanacingly over both Marina and Margarito, all the while talking in a conciliatory manner. Two different messages being broadcast at once! Murky murky indeed.

The ads are almost a relief. Almost.

MIRADA #73 THE PLOT SICKENS

Part 2

Well, Marina and Luis are still "peeling the pineapple" with him advising her that Pride is never good (hooo-hee, coming from him!) and that it's time to move on. She tartly reminds him that he threw her off his ranch, delivered her into the hands of the evil doc, who desecrated her and....

Yeah, yeah, yeah...well I'd heard some bad things about you, Luis concedes. But we can't change the past. Just let me tell you that if you let me see my grandson, everything I have will be his [todo lo ancho del rio].

Okay, I'm hanging on the edge of my seat, but the writers flip us over to Lucriminal who's making nice with Erick in his new office. And verifying that he really does have access to all the drugs in the hospital. Definitely have a bad feeling about this.

Back to the Main Event. Marina's still plenty feisty, letting Luis know that she's not interested in either his name or his money. She and the baby will be just fine without him. He loses it for a moment, grabs a chair and slams it down. Then gets a hold of himself and actually launches into a painful, hesitant, stop and start, garbled tentative...and finally full out... plea for forgiveness.

Marina is stunned. So are we.

I'm not used to asking forgiveness, stammers Luis. But Prude tells me that you have a great nobility of heart. You have to understand...I was raised as a man to believe that my lineage means everything.

Marina still won't budge but she's looking stricken. Luis admits he knows what happened was horrible... but Time heals all wounds, he adds hopefully. Will you give me a chance?

She caves. Margarito comes in with the baby. Luis reaches out for him. Nothin' doing. Margarito holds on tight. So Luis begins to coo about how blond he is and asks if he takes after Sotero. No, snaps Marina. He takes after my mother, your wife. He's clearly strong and healthy exults Luis. And actually launches into some tender baby talk nonsense. And seems to love the name Rafael. While also verifying that Marina hasn't registered him yet. So...as a single mother? Yes. Well, I hope that you'll let me see him again, murmurs Luis, while cooing and wriggling his fingers at the wee tyke.

And dadgummit, the old scoundrel was absolutely adorable in all this scene. He had me in the palm of his hand. And Marina too. Not that she forgave him; but she was ready to let him see his grandson, under her supervision. And replayed the party line, embraced by Damiana, that she should not let her own anger and resentment keep her child from getting to know his grandfather.

Oh my. Yes, it does seem right. But it's about to go so wrong.

Luis is then off to celebrate his victory with a Chucha roll in the hay. She tries to dismiss the whole idea of being "pegado a ese mocoso" [stuck on that brat] but he reminds her he's not there to talk but to work off some steam from the confrontation. And there we draw a veil.

Marina calls Bazán to explain her lateness and when she does arrive, he wonders why don Luis accepts so easily that Rafa is his grandson. Because I am his actual child, not Beto she explains. Cara de impactada de Bazán.

MIRADA #73 THE PLOT SICKENS

Part 3

Alright, that old renegade Luis is still charming me. Prudencia is waiting for him in his office since he didn't answer his phone (too busy rassling with Chucha). He starts to make up some nonsense about a meeting, but she tenderly lets him know she's aware he asked forgiveness and loves him even more for it. He grabs her and dances around, dips her down with a flair, and together they seem so happy and well-matched. Dang! Wish it were actually so.

Meanwhile, Toribio is on his way to his appointment with Lucriminal. And is lost. And won't accept help from Beto because Beto is a dolt. Eventually he arrives and Lucreepy is quizzing him about his nightmares (I'm on the ground, there's a sharp pain in my head, I see feet...but whose?)and emphasizes that she's giving him NEW PILLS which will help him sleep better. Uh-oh. She further gains his trust but giving him a voucher for the cafeteria that will give him free access to all the food he wants. As many chilaquiles as you can eat! That seals the deal. Toribio thinks she's the Blue Fairy.

And romance is a-foot elsewhere. Erick, still on the Yola Project, is letting her know she was worth getting demoted to Pharmacy for. But surely now she owes him another chance. And how about this evening? Sorry. She has a birthday party to attend. Well, tell me where it is and I'll meet you there. Otherwise, I'll just have to keep calling you. Every three minutes. She laughs. And caves as well. Oh my.

Back at the ranch, Erasmo is brooding about who Yola's dating in the big bad city. And Zackrat is making fun of him. And reminding him he can't go to Mexico City on the weekend because he has to cover for Margarito. More bad news.

Pru and Beto are talking in the hospital and he's looking pensive. And cast aside. As he hears about Luis asking forgiveness and gaining access to the baby Beto himself rejected. Pru reminds him that he is their son and always will be, but he's looking miffed. Well, if Marina has forgiven him, so can you, Pru reminds him. She hasn't yet, asserts Beto. No, but she will. Well maybe I will also, he concedes. Change of heart? Or is he just feeling left out in the cold? Who cares?

Our wise Angustias is having a chat with Marine and warning her, however gently, that she should take it slow with Luis. And not be too trusting.

And in the very next scene we see why. Luis is talking to his lawyer. Wanting to know if his daughter hasn't registered the baby yet, can he and Prudencia register him AS THEIR SON!? Yes, affirms the lawyer. As long as the mother has signed over her rights and gives you custody [patria potestad].

One more brief scene where Beto visits Marina to talk about her meeting with his dad. She blows him off, reminding him that her personal life is none of his concern. And besides she's busy working. He slinks off after Bazán shoos him away. With an abject "con permiso".

And there we end. Yuck and Double Yuck. If Luis is to be redeemed, it's still a long long way off. And he's evidently planning lots more skullduggery before then. Jump in y'all. I'm sure you've got some strong opinions about all this.

MIRADA

Judy, I have no thoughts on the events but I have some strong opinions on your writing. Fantastic! You had me smiling away amiga.

"THE PLOT SICKENS?" Oh my - stellar.

"glacially slow change of heart", "burly bad boy", "Yuck and Double Yuck" and "The ads are almost a relief. Almost" were just great and "custody [patria potestad]" another golden nugget.

And I'm sure there is much more "skullduggery" ahead. Thank heavens!

And I am heartened by andy's earlier "Even Doc Masked Limpy Scarface might wind up with a consolation prize". Laugh out loud material.

The comments today are just too good to ignore.

doris'" Doc Mask’s scar tissue looked like it was becoming unattached around his eye today. Makeup dept. probably said, “ Ay caray, just let it go. The guy has lost his marbles anyway” and nina's "People like them will always get exposed. The sheer arrogance of the both of em!" were just great.

Rgv Chick, I'm sure you are exhausted not just for everything you do in your "normal" life but for your incredible dedication and time spent recapping and keeping everything afloat here. You deserve so much appreciation and thanks.

Thank you for another great recap and perfect title, JudyB!

I’m hoping Big Ed will get eaten by a shark after he is swept away in a riptide. After today’s vignette, I fear he will hurt Vane physically, at some point. That guy has a nasty streak.

I did not trust Louse’s “perdoname” and … Bazinga! … I was right. The Louse is such good actor. What a manipulator!

And wow, was he ever up into Marina’s personal space!

If that baby was a girl, do we think the Louse would have shown up today? Nopis.

And Chu is forgetting her place in Don Lu’s life …. concubine … friend with benefits … and nothing more, while she is becoming a harpy. Ubicate, Chuch.

I’m starting to think Pru does not suspect anything between Chu and Lu, after the way she flirted & talked so nicely to him at his office today. I hope she read(s) that document before she sign(s) it.

Lucreepy having access to the Rx list doesn't look like a good thing. I could not tell whose name was highlighted, but it looked like a long one.

Erick working in the pharmacy is a disaster waiting to happen. There was a hospital death here in the last year because a nurse didn't read the whole name of a medication on the computer screen, before clicking on it, it was the wrong drug (similar name), and the patient died. Big local news story. Awful.

Upon hearing who Marina’s parents are, Doc Bazan is probably going QTH??? Then who is Beto??? LOL

Doc Bazan realizes today that Marina really could pay for all this free surgery and medical care for her and the Amoeba Clan, if her pride wasn’t in the way.

Would wherever ChuLu (or should it be LuChu?) go to knock boots count as a “Love Shack”? (my sad bingo cards, you know…)

And . . . what was that brief exchange between Margo & Luis about "the past"? I need to go back and re-watch that. Maybe Margo knows something about Toribio's injury? Writers do not have throwaway comments like in telenovelas.

DF will be replaced with El Dicho on Monday July 15, at 1p/12c.

FLOR
Ep 57: Part 1 “The Jealous Are Troublesome to Others, But a Torment to Themselves (William Penn)

When Marina comments that Gris must be very scared and anxious, Lalo assures her that he will not leave Gris alone; he will support her and take care of her regardless of the decision she makes. Mariana agrees to talk to Gris, but she is not going to try to tell Gris what she should do.

At Marga’s house, Rose is reading a letter that CKLASS sent her sine they were impressed with the fashion and with Rose. While she reads, Marga goes to answer the door and receives a package from the mailman. Rose continues to read the letter as Marga sneaks away to her bedroom and applies some rejuvenating cream all over her face.

Ati sees Mariana out in town andwants to know why she has been so cold with him. Mariana explains that there are too many things going in her life, especially with her daughter. Ati has been a good friend and support, but Mariana doesn’t feel that she can concentrate on being with someone. As they hug, Aure sees them and comes stomping over to separate them. Mariana chides Aure for making a scene. She tells him not to get in her business or personal life. Afterwards, Aure goes to talk to Elpi who tells him that he needs to drop the Mexican macho act and show Mariana that he can be a man who loves her and respects her.

Flor thanks Teo for offering to go look for Elsa in the US. Before he leaves, Teo needs to go to his office.

Mariana talks to Gris at a café. Gris thinks Mariana is going to try to convince her to keep the baby, but Mariana tells her that she only wants Gris to know that she is there for her. Whatever decision Gris makes is up to her, Mariana just warns about clinics and quacks. Mariana goes on to tell Gris that she is not alone in this since Lalo wants to support her and take care of her. Gris confides that she has been doubting getting the abortion and she has considered other options, but the other options would still require her to tell her parents and to give up her opportunity to be a dancer.

Diego and Xochitl are playing and being watched by Val when Flor comes in with popcorn. Diego asks for Teo so that they can go for a walk, but Teo is working. After the kids go to the kitchen, Val wonders if Teo is now the superhero. After Flor reminds him that Teo is doing a lot for Diego, Val thinks that Teo is trying to replace him. Flor suggests that Val allow Teo to help him and to allow Teo to love his son.

Teo tells Diego that he is going on a trip. After Teo asks Diego to do everything Flor tells him to do and Diego agrees, Diego and Xochitl go outside to play.

Rose knocks on Marga’s door, but Marga has locked herself in her room and won’t come out. Rose calls Chile to come over. She isn’t thrilled to see him, but she is worried about her mother. Chile will try to talk to Marga, but if Rose hears some odd sounds, she shouldn’t interrupt them. When Chile knocks on Marga’s door, she lets him in, but she doesn’t want anyone to see her. Chile tells her to let him look at her since nothing scares him. When she turns around, Chile screams when he sees how red her face is, but quickly tells her that he can’t really notice anything…if he squints his eyes he can barely notice her rash. Marga knows that Chile is just trying to be nice…she knows she looks like a pufferfish. Marga then shares that the reason she did it was so that he will continue to like her. After Chile assures her that he will always like her just the way she is, he suggests that she go to a doctor, but Marga doesn’t want anyone to see her.

FLOR
Ep 57: Part 2 “The Jealous Are Troublesome to Others, But a Torment to Themselves” (William Penn)

Teo gets ready to leave and go look for Elsa. As he says his goodbyes to Flor, Flor gets a call from Elsa who tells her that she was detained at the migration office for drug trafficking. When Elsa tells Flor that her lawyer has told her that she might have to spend up to 15 years in jail. Flor wants to contact the embassy or someone to try to help her, but Elsa responds that there is nothing anyone can do since she is guilty. Elsa then asks Flor to take care of Diego so that he won’t go to an orphanage. After Flor hangs up, she and Teo wonder how Elsa could have done something like that. Teo points out that this is serious and it won’t be easy to resolve it. Val is there telling Flor that she will have to take care of his son. When Teo comments that they will have to take care of Diego, Val gets anxious because he wants only Flor to take care of Diego. After Val asks to talk to Flor, she goes to the restroom. Val pleads with her not to allow Diego to be taken to an orphanage; Val was born in an orphanage and he doesn’t want Diego to end up in such a horrible place. When Flor assures him that she won’t allow Diego to be put into an orphanage, Val wants Flor and Chile to be the ones to raise Diego, but Flor insists that she can’t leave Teo out. Val is beside himself because Teo has taken his wife and now wants to take his son too.

Nestor and his partner are at the station talking about Tere. Nestor thinks that she’ll come crawling back to him after the hoopla about the fashion show calms down. Tere then walks in and tells Nestor that she wants nothing from him…except a divorce; she doesn’t want to live with a man who sabotages everything she does.

Chile comes out of Marga’s room and gets Rose to go get him some of her catalogs so he can look for some shoes. While Rose is gone, he and Marga sneak out of the house and go see Mica. Mica tells Chile that Marga had an allergic reaction to the rejuvenating cream and she will prescribe some meds. Mica then tells Chile that Marga was led to doing this because she feels insecure about being with a younger man; so Chile should make sure that Marga feels loved and respected just the way she is.

Val listens as Teo tells Flor all he went through when he lost his mother; he doesn’t want Diego to go through anything like that. Since they need to find a way to keep Diego, Teo will go talk to his father. After he leaves, Val insists that they not tell Diego the truth…Diego is his son! Flor gets frustrated and walks away.

Oscar explains to Teo what could happen to Diego, but Teo does not want Diego to end up in an orphanage. Oscar suggests that Flor could argue that she is the widow of Diego’s father and get temporary custody.

At the casino, Octi and Sami discuss business calmly and agree on some shows. Sami wishes that they could have gotten along this well all those years that they were married. Octi thinks that they could try again, but Sami doesn’t want to ruin their new friendship; she wants to continue as they are. Just then Lola comes in to talk to Sami, so Octi leaves.

Flor and Teo watch Diego playing outside and wonder how long they will have to keep Diego. After Flor thanks Teo for being so willing to take care of Diego, Teo worries about how they will tell Diego about his mother.

Val goes to Chile who is brooding and worrying about Marga. Val tells him that Teo wants his son and Chile shouldn’t allow it. Teo is just wanting to take advantage of the situation…Teo wants to be a martyr and a good guy. Val convinces Chile that Teo is only doing it to impress Flor; so Chile agrees to help Val since he is the only father Diego should have.

FLOR

Thanks, Alexander! I was wondering what would be coming next.

MIRADA

JudyB, thank you very much for this excellent recap of a busy and complicated episode.

I was really shocked when Don Louse essentially apologized to Marina. He seemed to be serious about seeing his grandson and possible straightening out their relations. I thought some of his baby cooing was over the top, but whatever.

Doris, "...was he ever up into Marina’s personal space!" Don Louse gets into everybody's personal space. He's a very big, very arrogant guy with a habit of putting his arm around other people's necks and pulling them close in a threatening or overly paternalistic way and talking down to them. He has an incredible sense of entitlement.

Nonetheless, I thought he was sincere with Marina about the baby. Now it looks like maybe not.

Doris, I agree that Prudy and Don Louse seemed nicely matched today, all giggly and fooling around. But I have not given up on Prudy's smarts. She has been getting a lot of papers to sign lately, and she not long ago learned that Louse had her money tied up in some long term investments. I am probably totally wrong about this, but I suspect that Prudy is up to something.

Vane and Big Ed arguing didn't seem like much at first, but later he turned nasty. Poor Vane has a problem unless he gets caught in that riptide and she can throw in about five pounds of very fresh beef liver after him.

I'm still on the fence about Rapunzel. I have not yet decided if she's just willing to fight fiercely for what she wants, or if she's nasty.

Erick is a total waste as far as I'm concerned. Absolutely and criminally irresponsible. If he doesn't have some other career in mind, something that he would want to do, then he should specialize in dermatology. Nice gig, nine to five, or whatever, no emergencies, etc., etc. And if he can't figure out what some lesion is he can biopsy it and let the pathologist decide. Of course, he would probably get back a lot of pathology reports that say "freckle".     :-)

I can't say that Lino seems all depressed about Vanesa being married to someone else.

What a marvelous title and what a marvelous insight by William Penn, Rgv Chick. Wise additions like that elevate a recap to literature.

I'm sorry that Valentin is so bent out of shape at Teo's good care of his wife and child but I guess the dead have to go on evolving spiritually and emotionally like the rest of us. Get with it, Valentin!

Have only watched a few episodes, but have to admit the character I like most is the one played by Roberto Blandón. He looked terrific yesterday in his wig and dress. Quite convincing. And I picked up a new expression: "es una moneda en el aire". Nicely done.

Hope you have a happy and restful Fourth of July (although doubt that you ever get to rest, hard-working lady). And thanks as always.

MIRADA

Andy - I sincerely hope you are correct about Pru being on to Luis.

Lino las been working in getting over Vane so he is wearing his game face, trying his best to move on. Poor guy has shed enough tears over her.

Have a HAPPY AND SAFE 4th, everyone!!!

MIRADA

Good morning Patio and Happy Fourth!

Diana, thank you so much for those "flores". You always make each recapper feel so appreciated, with your careful reading of the text and the way you highlight certain quips. You're a treasure.

Doris..Love how you think and write. Especially liked your Amoeba Clan and addition of a shark to Big Ed's fate. And I think you're right that Margarito might have some clue to the past and what happened to Toribio. Perhaps that's why he said to his trusting Lino "How little you know him, son." Also, since you noted that the name was very long, maybe Rapunzel is looking up Erick. I can never remember all his family names but there are a ton of them.

Andy Andy Andy!...you can never "coo over the top" to a baby. No way. And it turns out that Baby Talk and that high-pitched voice we instinctively use when talking to little ones, is universal across all cultures and language forms. Babies are designed to bring out the Doting Idiot in all of us so we will keep taking care of them in spite of how inconvenient they are LOL. And yes, Erick might be better off in dermatology, although it's a pretty yucky science. I would actually recommnend radiology. Again, regular office hours and looking at x-rays all day is a sight better than looking at some of the dermatological eruptions that occur. Just sayin'.
I think he'd be a good restaurant manager, glad-handing everybody and persuading the waitresses to work over-time. But Emergency Room doc....noooooo. You and Doris work well together...throwing in an extra five pounds of very fresh beef liver is an excellent idea. I can tell you're a strategic thinker.

Hope you all have a lovely restful Fourth, fresh and funny Patio. Recap may be a bit late today depending on my party schedule today.

"MIRADA":

Doris: I've been saying that Psychopath was likely to get rough with Vanessa sooner or later.

Big question is whether Thomas Lino comes to the rescue ?

MIRADA

Erik working in Dermatology could be an epic fail, too. Gross flesh ailments, indeed.
Every time I see Eric, he looks like a body double of Greg Poehler, Amy's brother. Google him and see what you think.

MIRADA

Yes, I see a lot of similarities in how they look, Doris. Don't know the American actor, all I ever watch are telenovelas and the news. But there's a definite resemblance.

FLOR

One of your finest recaps Rgv Chick - and I mean that sincerely.

I needed only to read your words to understand and actually feel of the swirling emotions shown and expressed. A masterful job.

“The Jealous Are Troublesome to Others, But a Torment to Themselves” (William Penn)" could not have been more perfect. Period. Too many poignant lines to count.

"Flor suggests that Val allow Teo to help him and to allow Teo to love his son". A request that should have comforted and buoyed Val, but of course it did not.

"Chile screams when he sees how red her face is, but quickly tells her that he can’t really notice anything…if he squints his eyes he can barely notice her rash" and "Marga knows that Chile is just trying to be nice…she knows she looks like a pufferfish" had me clearly envisioning what happened and I feel as though I actually saw it.

"Teo wants to be a martyr and a good guy. Val convinces Chile that Teo is only doing it to impress Flor; so Chile agrees to help Val since he is the only father Diego should have". Misguided loyalty, but touching nevertheless.

"Val is beside himself because Teo has taken his wife and now wants to take his son too" contrasted with "Teo worries about how they will tell Diego about his mother". There is no doubt who is the more selfless person. Jealousy is gnawing at Val's heart, even in death.

Just wonderful Rgv Chick. Thank you, thank you.

What dirty lodown piece of horse sh*t.
Right now he is not too redeemable. He's wants to steal his grandson from
His mother just cuz he feels intitled.
And he wants a little me. No. Way.In.
Hell. Is that gonna happen.
I loves the way she stands up to him.
She got that stubborn strength from him. Only on her side its right, his is side is twisted. I wish the writers would make him uncrooked. They look great dancing. But kidnapping your kid
And tying her up and taking her to a rapist, kinda puts a damper on the father/daughter relationship thingy.

Looks like lucrimanil(She Does not deserve correct spelling)is lookin for a drug she can use to get tori to tell
Imfo about marina. Nasty she is.

Yola should be careful with the not so
Good doctor. He is irresponsible and unreliable and he doesn't seem to be serious about anything. she better be careful. And itz good angsty is warnin
Marina. Her daddy is a crook to the 3rd power.

Ok, this was fun. Thank you JudyB.

Hi Ms. Nina! Thank you for checking in. The recap for today's episode is already up on a new page. But I love your analysis of why Luis' relationship with Marina is not promising.."tying her up and taking her to a rapist kinda puts a damper on the father/daughter relationship thingy."

You betcha!

It IS too bad though, because I agree...Pru and Luis dancing together was just flat out adorable. Wish Louse were out and out disgusting all the time, but he has his moments of charm. But then so do sociopaths.
