I'll recap tonight.

LA REINA DEL SUR – LUNES – Parte 1 de 2

No….no….no…..no…no. I don’t even want to write this.

We begin with some wheels going round and round interminably. It’s Lencho, pushing a cart and disguised as an orderly. He’s gotten in to see Zurdo.

Faustino’s conversations with Anton are the only enjoyable parts of this episode. Faustino tells Anton that Zurdo looked like mashed potatoes. Even his tongue was probably broken. He describes how he fell from a helicopter.

Lencho tells Zurdo that he greased some palms to get into his room. Zurdo tells Lencho to kill Teresa. He tells him to look for Faustino’s girlfriend as a way to find Teresa.

At the warehouse Teresa bashes Michele with a gun. She tells him he’s owed that and, besides, it will make his story believable when “they” come.

Jonathan, Teresa and Sofía get away. Kira finds Michele and points a gun at him.

Alejandro calls Danilo. He has booked him on a flight to Washington, D.C. and arranged for his visa. He says Danilo will be flying alone, but he’ll meet him there in 3 days.

On the way to the airport, Sofía hears that Cayetana will also be leaving on a plane. When Sofía wants to meet granny, Teresa tells her she needs to tell her something important about Cayetana.

Before boarding the plane to Spain, Cayetana insults her granddaughters once again. Charo embraces them. And I was yelling at her to stay in Mexico, but she got on with the harridan.

Alejandro tells Kira not to let Lupo get away, but to leave him alive.

Anton and Faustino compare notes. Anton tells him that Oleg is seriously hurt or he’d have gotten him out. Faustino: ¿Estiró la pata? (Did he kick the bucket?) Anton doesn’t know. Faustino, hearing about Oleg, says that, if Zurdo dies, Teresa would dig him up and kill him 3 more times.

Batman is being treated by some narco-doc.

We get a useless scene of Jimena talking to Ray. She’s peeved he hasn’t come over to meet her mother.

Teresa, Jonathan, and Sofía arrive at the airport. Jonathan tells Sofía that, if she’s good, he’ll teach her how to pilot the plane. They board. We see Kira peeking around the corner. Then we see her push a button on a controller and are treated to a view of a bomb on the underside of the plane. Kira says that all this will be over in 2 minutes. God, how I hate her!

Michele is left handcuffed to a piece of metal.

LA REINA DEL SUR – LUNES – Parte 2 de 2

Sofía tells her mother that she left Tozzi in the SUV. Teresa doesn’t want to get off the plane, but Sofía tells her that her leaving Tozzi would be as if her mother left her. Teresa goes back for the cat.

She grabs the cat carrier, starts to leave, and the plane blows up. There’s a huge ball of fire. We see that there’s only a metal shell left. Teresa walks toward the plane, calling for Sofía.

Kira comes running, shooting at the same time. Teresa gets a couple of guns from the SUV and fires back. These two both have 9 lives. They shoot about 30 or 40 shots but no one is hit. Some military police arrive, probably because the explosion was reported. Teresa drives through a fence and escapes.

Michele has gotten free, but some guys in black grab him up.

Faustino again brightens the mood, if only slightly. He and Anton are outside at a picnic table. He tells Anton that he’d have to be reincarnated to get out of this one. He jokes with Anton about esta percha (the stylish clothes they have on). A guard comes to tell him he has a visitor.

The visitor is Rocío. He tells her he can’t fulfill their engagement plans. He’s going to get life, many times over. Or perhaps be extradited to the US and get the electric chair. He muses that he never even got a parking ticket before, and now that he’s asked her to marry him, he’s behind bars. Rocío insists that she’ll wait for him. And she’ll use the money Teresa gave her to help him have a better life inside and maybe even get out.

The guys who captured Michele are Alejandro’s guys. Ale interrogates him. Michele lies pretty well, telling a tale about what happened with Teresa. And he has a complete poker face when told that Sofía died, but Teresa got away.

Teresa screams out her pain. Then she tells Tozzi that she will now be the one to care for him. Then she calls someone.

Kira has come to the warehouse where Ale is interrogating Michele. Ale is completely frustrated. He says that they’ve known for 48 hours that Teresa would escape in that plane. They put a bomb on it, and installed listening devices. And all ruined because of a cat! He’s ready to blame Kira, but she says she had already pushed the detonator when she overheard Teresa say she’d get the cat. There was no way to stop it.

Kira says that she saw a transformation in Teresa after this, like nothing she’d seen before. She tells Ale that Teresa Mendoza is not just any woman; there’s a reason they call her La Reina del Sur.

Teresa calls Batman. She sounds cold as ice. She tells him she hopes he had nothing to do with what happened. After he hangs up, he grins and says, if only she knew the surprise he has for her. He gets out a syringe. I’m thinking he’s going to try to inject Teresa, but then we see Oleg on a bed, hooked up to an IV. Batman says he’s going to give him a triple dose of whatever’s in the syringe to wake him up. He calls him Putin.

I'm fuzzy about the timeline, but it appears that Batman never was hurt. The doctor was there to treat Oleg. Not sure why he lied to Sheila.

Wow, novelera, you have my condolences for having scheduled to recap tonight's horrific episode. You did an amazing job. I don't know how you did it.

It was only toward the very end of the episode, after the plane exploded, that I saw that tonight's episode was entitled "Adiós, Sofía."

I know that there have been some astonishing moments in this novela where people who were thought to be dead survived. Zurdo for one, and now apparently Oleg as well. But the fireball that destroyed the plane leaves no doubt in my mind that Sofía was killed, along with Jonathan. For me, Sofía was perhaps the most inspired and delightful aspect of Reina 2. I keep wondering why they killed her off. Perhaps they're planning a Reina 3 and feel that Teresa's continuing to have a daughter to care for might make Reina 3 too confining or too much like Reina 2? I dunno.

I don't have much else to say. I'm still too much in shock.

La Reina 2

wow...

thanks so much novelera, I can't tell you how much I appreciate what you do for this blog, and your recaps are superb!

Sofia dying kills the show for me, what's left, revenge? not one of my favorites, and how many times have they NOT killed Manuela.

not to mention Lupo who was on his way to salvation.

Cayetana, nasty as ever, learning that the guy she hired to find Teresa is the guy who kidnapped Sofia didn't phase her at all. (they put the bomb on the wrong plane, no I shouldn't say that, I like Charo)

I think Faustino said his guys are coming down from Colombia to buy out the prison so that he doesn't get shanked.

Lencho chasing the millennials, who needs that.

so Oleg called Anton who came to get him but got grabbed by the military, Batman, on the other hand managed to get there, I do think he was shot in the arm, but now we know the real reason he hustled Sheila out of there and why the doc looked at him and asked where is the patient.

I loved Sofia.

Juanita- I was picturing all along that Reina 3 would be a new generation, led by Sofia/Simon.

Thank you, novelera, for your outstanding recap of such a depressing episode. I kept hoping that there might have been someway for Sofía to have slipped out of that plane, too, but I see none.

Juanita, I saw the title beforehand but thought that maybe Cayetana had gotten control of Sofía somehow. Boy, was I wrong. I never thought they would actually kill off Sofía even though I was worried about just that when Oleg sent Teresa off to reclaim Sofía but warned her they were at war and war had its casualties. After it seemed like Oleg had been killed, I was relieved thinking he was foreshadowing his own death but I was snookered in by those writers. The writers really know how to manipulate the viewers.

deb, thanks for reminding us about how Batman shuffled Sheila out ASAP. It looks like Oleg made the right decision foregoing a rescue by the military. Yay! Oleg lives!

Cayetana was her vile self expressing herself as nastily as usual to the last minute thanks to these excellent writers. She told Rocío she would be in Mexico “oliendo las bragas de la mexicana”. (smelling the Mexican’s [Teresa’s] underpants) I hope this is the last time we see this disgustingly memorable character.

I fear for Rocío with Zurdo’s minions after her. She could end up dead or wishing she were dead very quickly with Teresa at the top of Zurdo’s kill list.

I have to give it to Godoy for trying to set Rocío free from her emotional entanglements with him. It was good to know that his Colombian money train was arriving. I still like Godoy.

So, Danilo is to meet Alejandro in D.C. in three days. He expects this operation to be over so quickly?

I fear for Michele. He has that Sofía tattoo and it isn’t a temp one.

Teresa has nothing left to lose so it should be more than interesting.

reina-sur2

Thank you, novelera. Can't imagine how you did it. I could barely finish watching.

This show did an amazing job making us love Sofia. And now that she is gone, we feel like Teresa. What is there to live for? What is there to watch for? I feel numb.

Reina-sur-2

Thanks, Novelera. I enjoy your storytelling, but sorry you had to cover Sofia's demise.

I am shocked. I figured there wouldn't be a rosy ending with Teresa and Sofia sharing life with Michelle. Too many innocent people have died helping Teresa and Sofia along the way (like the cab driver in the early days and those police officers with Sofia), but I never imagined Sofia gone. After last night’s ending, I cheered myself thinking that the young actress has had a full workload with this role and needed a break to get back to school and play.

Kira can’t be taken out soon enough. Kira says that she saw a transformation in Teresa after this, like nothing she’d seen before. She tells Ale that Teresa Mendoza is not just any woman; there’s a reason they call her La Reina del Sur. You blithering idiot killing machine!#$&* So now you have some respect for Teresa, after you’ve assassinated her daughter?

So right that Godoy was the bright spot in this episode. Such charm even behind bars in prison wear.

Also good to see Batman is working a plan of his own and that Oleg survived.

No idea where this will go now without Sofia.

reina-sur2

Well, it's Tuesday, so I guess I'll do a recap of sorts tonight. I'm still a bit numb from last night's episode.

Niecie, I had a similar thought about Isabella Sierra, the wonderful young actress who played Sofía. If I'm not mistaken, she's only about 12 or 13 years old, and I found myself wondering whether she or her parents objected to what this demanding role was doing to her everyday life. I suspect that's not the real backstory to killing off Sofía, but I did find myself thinking about it last night.

reina-sur2

Thanks, guys. I'm also unhappy and numb. I agree, Juanita, that the demise of Sofía probably means that Kate has signed on for more temporadas of La Reina del Sur. Getting to Australia with Sofía would have killed off Telemundo's cash cow.

I didn't put it in the recap, but Batman picked up the photos of each of his deceased loved ones and, maybe, put them away? This could signal that he's somehow figured out Epifanio was behind their deaths and has switched sides. Otherwise, why would he save Oleg?

I agree, Jarifa, with Sánchez-Godoy's nobility in continuing to insist that Rocío move on and find someone else. But I think he's somehow going to get out of prison, whether before the final or during a third season, I don't know.

Reina 2

Very late to the party, so sorry. I finally caught up.
Novelera, you had a difficult assignment and did it so well.
I had a hard time getting to sleep last night.

It may be only wishful thinking on my part, but I think there is a slim chance that Sofia and Jonathan survived. If we go back to the warehouse scenes, Lupo said there was only one way out of this, hear me out before you kill me. Did we hear what the "one way out" was? It's not unreasonable to expect an attempt would be made on the getaway plane. Lupo gave Kira the info a little too quickly. Perhaps the plan was to have Teresa, Sofia and Jonathan sneak off the plane before anything happened. Evil DEA would think mission accomplished and Lupo would meet up with the group later.

The plan goes awry when Teresa goes for the cat. While Jonathan and Sofia "die", Teresa is left behind and she is in danger. To me, Lupo seemed very concerned that Teresa escaped.

After Teresa ditched the car, she called someone but I don't think it was Batman. She said it's me, Teresa. In Batman's message, she started with "Hi Batman". Who did Teresa call?

I could be way off base here but without physical evidence of death, I'd like to still hold out hope for a happy ending with Teresa, Michele and Sofia. At least until Reina 3!

dondi356

REINA 2

dondi356, I like your analysis.

Reina 2

dondi356- Me too! Oleg and Zurdo recently "died", so why not Sofia? (Because I am going to ignore all the people who died for real). Now. How can we get Manuela killed? And Cayetana is just too horribly fun to die, so maybe force her to live with Ray and Jimena forever. They're a bit annoying so it'd be appropriate punishment for everyone.

La Reina del Sur 2 - Martes - Parte 1 de 2

Wow! Two days in a row I was totally blindsided by what happened. But tonight, I'm not complaining. This time, I'm thrilled to have been surprised and fooled.

Tonight's episode bore the title El dolor de madre. I gritted my teeth and began to watch. Conejo, Sheila, Paloma, and Ray are sad and outraged by the loss of Sofía and Jonathan. They assure Teresa that they're with her for whatever she needs. Teresa tells them that she has to figure out how to strike back.

In the next scene, Teresa is walking down by some boats. We get a glimpse of some barefoot legs. Oh no, I think, Manuela has found her yet again. But it's not Manuela, it's Jonathan! I assume that Teresa is hallucinating, but she's not. Jonathan tells her that everything went as planned. They hug. Teresa says that she has lost her daughter, leaving me puzzled that she's not more distraught.

Rocio drives up to the Submarino club. Another car drives up next to hers. I don't recognize the driver. Rocio gets out of the car, goes into the club with her suitcase, unlocks a locker, and takes out wads of cash, which she transfers to her suitcase. She leaves. I expect trouble, but nothing happens.

Batman is talking to the doctor. He tells him that he found out that Teresa and Zurdo were going to meet, so he went to the hotel where the meeting was to take place. He catches a glimpse of Oleg and Teresa before they go into a room. Batman hides in a nearby room and, from the windown, sees Zurdo arrive. Soon, Batman hears noise, then a gunshot, followed by Teresa leaving. Batman sees Oleg lying on the floor in the room. He drags Oleg out of the room and into another just before the soldiers arrive. The doctor asks about his arm. I don't understand Batman's response. He says he made a beginner's mistake. Is it possible that he somehow got shot with his own gun? I'm not sure. Anyway, the doctor tells him that the guy Batman saved is in very good physical shape, and that's why he survived. Batman tells the doctor that he saved the guy to pay off a debt of many years' standing, and that there's a woman (obviously Teresa) who will help him when she finds out that the guy is alive.

Teresa's crew is still talking about the horrible turn of events. Paloma is sad that she'll never get to hug her sister Sofía. Ahmed says "we don't deserve the money Teresa has paid us, because we couldn't keep everyone safe." Ray is having none of that. "Are you crazy?" he asks Ahmed. "We did all we could. Epifanio is very dangerous. He gets rid of anyone in his way. That's what he did to my uncle" (I'd almost forgotten that Ray is el Güero's nephew).

There's a brief shot of Lencho stealthily approaching a building. A man is standing there with his back to us. I have no idea where this is or who the man is.

Rocio returns with her suitcase. She finds out about what happened with the bomb on the plane. She goes to Paloma and they hug.

The scene shifts to Lupo in the shower. We see his tattoo. He remembers how furious Teresa was about the altered tattoo. He remembers Sofía defending him and telling her mother "Don't kill my father again."

Jonathan is very sympathetic with Teresa. He kisses her. She thinks he's Lupo and slaps him. Jonathan assures her that it's him, Jonathan. The next thing I know, they're taking off their clothes and.... At this point, I am still VERY confused.

In Washington, Sergio gets a message saying "Your aunt isn't who you think she is," along with a recording of the phone call between Manuela and Alejandro after she's killed a bunch of cops.

reina-sur2
La Reina del Sur 2 - Martes - Parte 2 de 2

Jonathan and Teresa get dressed. Teresa says that Cayetana must be in Spain by now. Jonathan hands her a phone that he says even the DEA can't intercept. She calls Cayetana. Charo answers and offers to give the phone to Cayetana. Teresa says she doesn't want to talk to Cayetana. Charo understands...and gives the phone to Sofía!!! Teresa is relieved to know for sure that all went as planned. She tells Sofía "we're apart, but at least you're alive." [My head is spinning.] Sofía asks about Tozzi, and then tells Teresa she should talk to Lupo. "He saved our lives." Teresa insists that Lupo was paid to kidnap Sofía, and she hates him.

Finally, we see what really happened, and how it's possible for Sofía and Jonathan to be alive. The scene shifts back to the day before, when Teresa comes upon Lupo and Sofía. Lupo tells them that there's a bomb on the plane and microphones. He doesn't know whether this is Epifanio's idea or Alejandro's. However, he proposes a plan B that may save their lives. They can escape through a cargo door. Teresa tells him that she won't risk her daughter's life. He replies that if the two of them don't disappear that very day, it will be too late. Sofía says she believes him.

We then see what happened on the plane. I think the original plan was for Teresa, Sofía, and Jonathan to escape through the cargo door, but Teresa had to go get Tozzi. Sofía claims that she's tired and wants to sleep (knowing that what she says will be heard by Manuela). Then she and Jonathan escape unseen through the cargo door seconds before the bomb goes off. Jonathan then drives Sofía to meet the plane that will take Cayetana and Charo to Spain. Teresa had arranged for Cayetana to take Sofía with her. Sofía and Cayetana finally meet, and the three of them fly off to Spain.

During the phone call between Teresa and Sofía, Teresa emphasizes to her daughter that she can't talk to anyone, calls can be traced. Sofía urges Teresa to come as soon as she can--and bring Tozzi with her. Teresa then asks to speak with Cayetana. She tells Cayetana "I'm hoping you can put yourself in my place." Cayetana tells her she can't, since she's not an assassin. She does assure Teresa that Sofía will be safe with her. Teresa tries to tell Cayetana "you and I have been used in a plan." She emphasizes to Cayetana that she can't say anything to anyone about Sofía. She also threatens that if Cayetana does anything to hurt Sofía.... The call ends. Cayetana tells Charo to take Sofía upstairs and show her the house. Sofía says diplomatically, "abuela, why not come with us." She does so.

Jonathan tells Teresa that he has sent Manuela's nephew a message letting him know that his aunt is a hired assassin. He wants to put pressure on Manuela from all sides.

Lupo comes to a meeting with Manuela and Alejandro. They tell him that it's vital that they find Teresa quickly. They ask Lupo where she lives. He tells them that Teresa never permitted him to come to her house. They push him to tell them where she's likely to go. "No place she suspects that I know." He finally says she's probably left Culiacán. Ale presses him for more.

Teresa tells Jonathan that he should return to Washington, get a new identity, meet up with people he knows from the DEA, and get as much information as he can. "They've gone after my daughter!" she says. "Therefore, I'm justified in planting a bomb in the path of anyone who gets in my way."

Someone drives up to the Submarino club and throws a firebomb. End of episode.

[Kudos to dondi356, who earlier today posted a message suggesting the possibility that Sofía and Jonathan might be alive thanks to Lupo's unspecified plan.]

REINA 2

Juanita, thanks for your excellent retelling of a much happier episode. You got all of the details that were so important in all of these previously hidden scenes. The whole Jonathan/Teresa sex scene left me wondering, too. Does he have a thing for strong and deadly women? Too funny in a weird sort of way. As for Teresa, oh, well . . .

I enjoyed seeing what REALLY happened in the previous episode. It was very well done.

It was too bad that Sofía had to end up with Cayetana but it was the only way to save her. It sure sounds like it could be difficult to say the least for Teresa to reclaim Sofía. Cayetana seemed as determined as ever but maybe Sofía can soften her up.

It was very smart of Jonathan to complicate Manuela’s life with sending that incriminating message about her activities to Sergio.

Could it be that Batman is going to ask Teresa to help him avenge the death of his family in exchange for him taking care of Oleg? He has never seemed to believe Epifanio’s claim of innocence in the matter. Batman deserves some peace.

So, who threw the fire bomb? Too many possibilities.

As usual, I cannot wait for the next episode.

I will happily recap tonight. 😊

reina-sur2

Thanks so much, Juanita, for the terrific recap! Your asides echoed my own. I was completely fooled in the previous one. And let me add my congratulations to dondi356 for having figured out that Michele might have had a plan.

On the way to the airport Teresa had said she had some things to tell her about Cayetana, but they didn't show it. And, when Sofía was listening to Cayetana's end of the conversation with Teresa, Sofía, rather softly, spoke up disagreeing with Cayetana saying that Teresa murdered her son. And there were several dark looks that Sofía gave Cayetana that showed me she knows that her grandmother sent killers after her mother. I'm not sure whether Sofía might be trying to manipulate Cayetana by asking her to come along or maybe just really does want to have another relative.

I was not pleased about the sex with Jonathan. Then I tried to remind myself about things I've read about grief stricken people having sex as some sort of catharsis, even with people they're not in love with. After knowing that Sofía is alive, that could still be the reason. Sofía is alive, but Teresa does not know when she'll see her again.

I loved Jonathan sending Sergio that recording.

I wish Teresa knew that it was Alejandro's plan to blow up the plane and that Epifanio had planned to keep his end of the bargain. He still shouldn't be president of Mexico, but he didn't do what she thinks.

La Reina 2

thanks so much Juanita for another terrific recap! this was a much better story.

everyone is pretty much bent on death and destruction, except for Sofia, who brings life, I am so happy to be able to see more of her charm.

Cayetana doesn't have a clue about what Teresa is up against, this worries me, Sofia is sure to soften that crusty heart.

I'm pretty sure that was Lencho who followed Rocio to the Submarino where she picked up her money stash, then followed her to that other house where the gang lives, and it seems to be well guarded.

with the DEA involvement, Michele is convinced Teresa and Sofia would be tracked down no matter where they went, his solution was for them to die, I'm wondering if going back for Tozzi was part of the plan, it distracted Manuela while Jonathan and Sofia escaped.

sleeping with Jonathan reminded me of that soldier in Morocco she slept with.

yep, Batman picked up a gun in the room where Oleg was and put it into an inside pocket in his coat, when he took the coat off and dropped it on the floor it went off and he was shot in the arm, ha!, I'm thinking the debt he wants to repay is Teresa killing Ratas.

So Alex is sending Michele to D.C. to be debriefed, and Jonathan will be there too, hmm, didn't Sheldon declare him a traitor.

reina-sur2

Thanks VERY much, Jarifa, novelera, and deb, for your very perceptive and helpful comments. Jarifa, I loved the way you characterized the sex between Jonathan and Teresa. I was groping last night for something like what you said, but I couldn't come up with anything. What you've written expresses my feelings too.

I'm a bit worried about the message that Jonathan sent to Sergio. If Manuela finds out that he received such a message, she's almost sure to suspect that it came from Jonathan, and the time stamp would be after he was supposedly killed when the plane exploded. Thus, she'd know that he may not be dead, and perhaps therefore neither is Sofía.

novelera, I found what you say about grief-stricken people having sex very interesting. And deb's mention of Teresa's having sex with the soldier in Morocco in Reina1 is a terrific illustration! And my guess is that Sofía's invitation to Cayetana to come upstairs with Charo and her is both a clever attempt to soften up her abuela AND a wish to have more family.

deb, thanks very much for explaining some of the things that puzzled me. You're probably right about it being Lencho who was in the other car that pulled up next to Rocio's. And possibly he then followed her to where the rest of the crew were. But I was under the impression that they were all at the Submarine club, not at wherever they were living. (Or were they also living at the club?) And, of course, thinking that they were all at the Submarine club made me very worried about the firebomb at the end of the episode.

Can't wait for tonight's episode--and your recap, Jarifa!

La Reina 2

Juanita- I love how you follow up your recaps.

they have shown this other house several times as to where the gang really lives, cooks, etc, and last night Rocio was clearly at the Submarino to get her cash, then drove to this other place, it's not very clear but my take is the club was their front, where they came and went with other people and seemed to have rooms there or at a hotel, plus their back office with the giant aquarium TV, Egyptian art, surveillance stuff, etc, I'm guessing it's Teresa that had the place torched, since they are all done with that.

I'm waiting for Epi to catch on.

reina-sur2

deb, many thanks for your follow-up of my follow-up. :-)

I guess I wasn't paying enough attention, because I hadn't remembered the other house. Your explanation of what it is and the likelihood that Rocio went there after retrieving her money from the locker makes a lot of sense. As does your inspired guess that perhaps it was Teresa who was responsible for the firebomb at Submarino.

REINA

I got home late and turned on the tv to see SOFIA! Then decided the whole thing was too complicated and would have to wait for the recap to figure this out. So much I've missed in one episode! Still don't get the whole Jonathon thing, but whatever. They're adults and at least this partner (probably) isn't going to get them killed. At least not on purpose.

Give the tightness of the plan, I think Tozzi being left behind was part of the plan. I hope there's a plan to get him to Spain. Seems risky to let Sofia go with Cayetana, but I suppose sending Conejo or the millenials to monitor things (things being Cayatana) would have been more risky. I sure hope Teresa filled in Sofia about her, but she's going to need to get on her abuela's good side when the poop hits the fan. Cayetana is way too overconfident in her ability to counter all the many, many people who want Teresa dead and pose a risk to Sofia. The woman had her house taken over by a gypsy family, for cryin' out loud. Sofia will need to have a come-to-Jesus talk with abuela and pronto.

Kelly

Reina-sur-2

Juanita, thanks a bunch for the recap. Looking forward to reading it before tonight's epi.

Needless to say, I'm delighted Sofia escaped. And Jonathan too. But I am as confused as hell, so I'll be studying the recap and all comments.

dondi365, your wishful thinking yesterday that Sofia and Jonathan were still alive gave me hope.

Reina 2

Thank you Juanita, for a great recap of another intense episode.
I am grateful that the writers did not prolong the Sofia reveal. It was torture while it lasted.

Putting the plan to rest: Teresa resisted but once Jonathan arrived, it eased her mind and she went for it. He corroborated Lupo's story and she could count on Jonathan for Sofia's safety. Once again little Tozzi was an integral part of the show! He should get billing as supporting cast. That's how Teresa managed to stay behind without arousing suspicion. And yes deb, it served to distract Kira. I wondered why Teresa did not hurry to the car and back.

Isabella Sierra is doing a tremendous job. Sofia is a real shining star in the show. Matchmaking her mom and Lupo and reaching out to abuela bruja. Unfortunately, she is still in danger with the clueless Cayetana.

Add me to those who found the Teresa/Jonathan hook-up very strange. I can agree with Novelera's explanation but what's the purpose in the story? Now Teresa has been with Lupo and Jonathan in the same week. Will a baby be on the way by the end of the story?

Juanita, I agree with the danger of sending a message to Sergio. Even though Jonathan is "dead" it could raise a flag somewhere.

Lupo is much more experienced than Jonathan, but it looks like Ale and Kira don't buy what he's selling. Will Teresa have to save him?

Very interesting theory about El Submarino, deb. Good thing Rocio grabbed the cash and got out before it happened.

Batman = Pote 2.0?

So many loose ends and so little time left. Do you think we are being set up for Reina 3?

dondi356

Thanks everyone for all the great recaps and comments these past weeks! They really make the show more fun to watch and much more comprehensible! Wish I was not always lagging behind and could join in the commenting. So much happens so fast on this show! A day late and everything has zoomed ahead. I could not believe that Sofia was dead, I was sure she had gotten out before the plane exploded, so I wasn't TOO worried -- but I was very relieved so see her so soon so I could be certain! It was very moving to read all the comments about that. We all love Sofia! And to me, a nice bonus that Oleg is alive too, I really like him. I feel like Sofia is not just being granddaughterly to Cayetana -- I think maybe she invited her along on the house tour so she can keep her in her sight or something. I think before this is over, Charo will finally have her moment to shine.

Teresa is out and about in a parking garage when she gets a call from Epifanio that she chooses not to answer until she has his little surprise all wrapped up and ready. Next, she gets a call from Lupo who is still at the abandoned factory. She answers and asks him what he wants. He just wants to know that the plan worked and that Sofía is safe and out of Mexico. Teresa says nothing as he begs her for some information about Sofía. He keeps looking over his shoulder as he is talking as if somebody might see or hear him. She accuses him of calling her so they can locate her. It is so clear that he is playing for the other team. She will not be betrayed again by him. He has no idea of the amount of hatred she has within her. She tells him not to worry about Sofía and reminds him how easy it is to manipulate a little girl. She adds that in a month or so Sofía will have forgotten all about him. Also, he had better not even think about going to find Sofía, because if he ever did she would cut his ******off. He insists he is not her enemy. After more groveling and begging he asks Teresa what he can do to make her trust him again. He is not the enemy. She has only one request: bring her Manuela. Lupo tells her that they are looking for her and are going to find her sooner or later. She should just disappear. She reminds him that already didn’t work for her because he found her. She also knows who is against her now after the plane exploded and she is not stopping until she is done with all three of them. (Epifanio, Alejandro, Manuela) She swears she will have no mercy for any of them, Teresa insists it is Manuela or nothing. It is up to him. Lupo’s silence brings more accusations of his disloyalty but he finally agrees that if that is her price for her to trust him again, he will deliver Manuela. He will see her at 10:00 p.m. Teresa then asks what his price is since he is a **** mercenary. He is shocked and starts to talk about what they had between them. Teresa tells him there never was anything between them. Whatever might have been is long gone just like that guy Francesco Belmondo. Lupo is a despicable mercenary. Then there is Michele who is the same guy but at least she can be grateful to him for saving her daughter, Teresa makes it clear this is business now nothing else. Lupo doesn’t care what she calls it because he has never felt about any woman the way he feels about her. Teresa says it is up to him. Lupo hangs up and walks over to join Manuela and Alejandro who are present with their team also at the abandoned factory. He tells a nosy Manuela that he was talking to Batman. Alejandro informs them they have 24 hours to find their objective and then return to Washington.

REINA Parte 2

Ray has decided to take Ximena up on her invitation and is at her home where he meets Carmen and Virginia. A semi-joking Carmen, much to Ximena’s embarrassment, asks when they plan on getting married, A smiling Ray is about to address the issue when Epifanio enters unannounced and uninvited. Ray immediately asks Ximena if Epifanio is her grandfather. Yes, he is. The smile disappears from Ray’s face. Epifanio wants to know who the boyfriend is. Ray already knows who Epifanio Vargas is. Epifanio adds that God willing he will be the next president of Mexico. Epifanio starts asking Ray questions like who is he, where he is from, what are his last names, etc. Ray explains his father was a gringo so he uses his mother’s last name Guerrero. Epifanio thinks he looks like one of Mariano Bravo’s supporters and gets he will be voting for him. Didn’t they all see how disgusted Ray looked when he saw him come in? He wants to know what Ray’s deal is. Carmen tells Epifanio if he doesn’t like their conversation or Ximena’s novio, he can leave. Ray cuts her off and says he will be the one leaving and heads to the door.Epifanio remarks that is how Mariano’s followers are: like rats on a sinking ship. Ray stops in his tracks and turns to tell Epifanio with a smile that his unpleasantness isn’t evident on tv like it is in person. Ray wasn’t thinking of voting but now he will vote for Mariano Bravo. He doesn’t like him Epifanio seems to be a real pain in the ******. Epifanio is ready and willing to take the discussion further but Ray excuses himself and leaves. An upset Ximena follows him out. Carmen smiles.
Ximena tries to make things better. Carmen comes out. Ray gets a message beep on his watch. Epifanio comes out. Ray leaves. Carmen announces that she is delighted that there is somebody else in the work that hates Epifanio as much as she does. He just laughs.

It is dark outside of Teresa’s house. Lencho and his men have gathered and are ready to launch an attack after having finished off the bar. They infiltrate the grounds around the house. He thinks Teresa must be inside.

Ray is driving back to the house and talking to Sheila. He is upset because they have been found.

Lencho and his men pick off the guards surrounding Teresa’s house.

REINA Parte 3

Sheila tells Rocío, Paloma, Ahmed and Conejo they have to go hide. She just talked to Ray and they have been found. The enemy is outside of the house.

As Ray rushes back, Lencho and his men enter the house and search. Lencho notices some food is still hot but they find nobody. Teresa is driving back to the house not knowing what is going on.

In Spain. Sofía is getting used to her new surroundings with her grandmother who tells her to call her Yaya. Sofía seems happy as well as Cayetana who gives her a photo of her father. Cayetana wants the best for Sofía so she can grow up to be a real lady like she is. Children should not pay for the sins of their parents. Cayetana starts talking about how she has felt since Teresa killed her son and how with Sofía it seems like a part of him is still there. She goes on to say that nobody has the right to kill. Sofía asks if Cayetana having wanted to kill her mother isn’t the same thing. Sofía wants to change the topic.

Teresa, still unaware of the danger, arrives at her home. She notices something is off and parks along the road and not in the driveway. Lencho in his vehicle pulls up across from her and tries to see if anyone is in the vehicle. Teresa hides on the floor of her SUV and avoids being seen. Lencho and his men soon pass her by. She pulls into her driveway, enters the house, and finds her crew in the safe room where they have been hidden. She tells them it was Zurdo’s men and that all of the guardas are dead. Everyone is against them. Ray arrives. He gets a call that they burned down El Submarino. It is time to grab their belongings and get out of there. Teresa tells Ray she needs him more than ever. He is in charge of security. She needs him to get the best group of guys he can find together and armed by 10:00 p.m. He asks what is going on. She tells him it has to do with that *** **** ***** that blew up the plane. They pack up and leave.

Alejandro is wrapping up the meeting at the abandoned factory. He asks Lupo if he has any info. Lupo says not even Batman knows anything. Alejandro knows Teresa doesn’t leave any loose ends so they will be attacking at agreed upon targets. Lupo is left alone with Manuela and he talks her into meeting him for supper at 10:00 at a taco joint just like in old times. Lupo calls Teresa with the address. She tells him it better not be a trap. She will be there before 10:00. Finally, Teresa and her crew leave the house.

REINA Parte 4

Vevita has come down from Mexico City to join Epifanio.

Back in Spain, Charo is showing Sofía some photos of her dad and step sisters but that is cut short by Cayetana who is clearly jealous. Cayetana realizes that all she has for Sofía are her daughters’ old clothes but she tells her they can buy her some new items when they go out shopping. Sofía has to remind her that her mother told her not to leave the house. so they cannot go shopping. Cayetana makes light of that. Nothing will happen to her here. This is Spain. Not Mexico. Not South America. Sofía tells her Mexico is in North America. Sofía and Charo get a good giggle out of that but not Cayetana. Sofía wants her mother to bring her cat Tozzi. Cayetana remarks they have never had pets in her house. She isn’t in the mood for cats today. Sofía asks about later. Cayetana says they will have to wait and see.

Vevita and Epifanio her into it because he decides to smoke in her pregnant presence. He complains about her being all over him for everything just like his mother. She says that isn't It. He has been strange ever since that press conference. He tells her that as First Lady there are things she shouldn’t know about. It is for her and his child’s own good. She doesn’t want to be treated as if she were stupid. Vevita then turns to Alejandro who has been drawing in his notebook trying to stay out of the argument. She snatches Alejandro’s notebook and notices “Kill the messenger” .She explains the meaning to Epifanio and accuses them of blaming her for whatever. The illogical argument ends when she angrily leaves. After she is gone, Epifanio tells Alejandro he is worried about Teresita. She hasn’t talked to them recently. Alejandro assures him nothing bad has happened to her. Who they need to concentrate on now is El Zurdo Villa. As a matter of fact, tomorrow they are going to make him an offer he can’t refuse.

At the hospital, Lencho, dressed as medical personnel, visits Zurdo and brings him up to date about the club and the house. They were unable to find anyone. They will continue watching but they did find out something important. One of their men recognized a GPS signal and hacked it. Evidently, Teresa must have a locator chip somewhere on her person. It isn’t like those used in watches or a piece of jewelry. This is different technology and is in the person itself. It could be under the skin or between the teeth. Zurdo likes what he is hearing. Lencho shows Zurdo his phone indicating Teresa is on the corner of Mariano Escobedo and Jesús Andrade. Zurdo tells him to go get her.

REINA Parte 5

Lupo meets Manuela at the taco joint. They sit, relax and chit chat over the chilaca pepper tacos as Teresa watches from across the street in her vehicle. Teresa gets out and is ready to shoot Manuela when DEA vehicles arrive to taser and arrest Lupo. Manuela tells him they all know he is Teresa’s accomplice. He is to be taken to Washington and interrogated. She calls Alejandro to fill him in. She is to go to Washington and he will be joining them there, too. Lupo is driven away. Teresa sees it all and calls Ray to update him.

Ray follows the DEA vehicle to a military base airport. In the meantime, Lupo has tried to make a run for it but has no luck. Teresa and Ray see Lupo being loaded on a plane. Ray remarks that Lupo did not betray her and asks if she likes him. Teresa says nothing.

Lencho arrives at the taco joint but Teresa is gone. She is far away from where she was.

Teresa calls Jonathan giving him the news. He says he is going to find out what they are going to do with Lupo. Teresa says she will go with him. Yes, he found Manuela’s nephew. She tells him to listen closely as she gives him instructions.

REINA

Another fun action-packed episode.

Uh oh! Here is hoping Teresa finds out about her tracker having been hacked so she can get it removed.

Ray’s reaction to Epifanio was precious.

It does seem like Sofía is going to be able to make some headway with Cayetana.

Best scene of the episode : Teresa letting Lupo have it at the very beginning.

More later.

REINA

Sorry for the typos but I cannot go back and correct them.

Many thanks, Jarifa, for another superb recap!

My favorite scene was the one with Sofía and her abuela, or yaya (not a term I've heard before). I enjoyed Sofía informing Cayetana that Mexico was in North America, not South America. And I LOVED it when, in response to Cayetana's saying indignantly that there's never an excuse for killing someone, Sofía said "But didn't you want to kill my mother?"

One thing puzzles me: how did Ray know that Zurdo's men had found out where the crew lived? I know that Lencho or another of Zurdo's men followed Rocio first to El Submarino and then to the house, but how did Ray find out that they knew the location of the house? Did he simply assume that if they firebombed the Submarino club they also knew where the crew was staying?

I wonder how long it will take for Teresa to realize that the bad guys are able to track her because of the chip.

La Reina 2

wow, Jarifa, nice recap, you really go all out!

yes, those were interesting conversations Sofia and Cayetana had, and what a controlling witch she is, first palming off what a wonderful son Teo was, that Sofia politely says her mother told her not to discuss him, next Caye goes on about Sofia being schooled and becoming a proper lady like she is, Sofia counters with she can't leave the house, and of course, she doesn't like cats.

Sofia looks all the nice young lady in Paloma's clothes and pigtail, wait, didn't Cayetana burn all of Paloma's clothes.

Ray always bugs me, first he gives Epi hints as to who he is, next he doesn't tell Teresa about the encounter, but loved Carmen being taken in by him when she sees his conflict with Epi.

Jimena sure is a lot nicer to be around than Paloma.

Manuela could have taken Michele anyplace, but this gets him off the hook with Teresa, I was expecting Lencho to be the one blowing their dinner.

yep, Zurdo had state of the art surveillance stuff, why wouldn't his guy crack Ray's stuff.

Juanita- Ray has a Dick Tracy watch, he tapped into the house cameras and saw Lencho's guys, hmm, I would think the safe room would have a lock on the inside so you couldn't just walk in, even if you knew the code.

reina-sur2

Jarifa, I love your recaps! You do such a great job with the details and dialogue.

I thought it was a bit cruel of Teresa not to just tell him Sofia survived. Eventually, when she said Sofía would forget him in a few week, he could be sure the plan had worked. [No, she won't, Teresa. If there was ever a little girl longing for a father, this one is.]

Teresa keeps saying that Lupo found her. But, IIRC, he just sort of fooled Cayetana into thinking he found her. The DEA knew where she was all along and reneged on their promise. His role was to get close to Teresa and Sofía so as to work with Batman and get her away. I clearly remember his telling her that.

Somehow it surprised me that Ray didn't know about Jimena being Epifanio's granddaughter. I sort of think the "gang" knows all. He really did an excellent job of insulting him, didn't he?

Manuela fooled me. I suspected Teresa's plan to kill Manuela was going to go awry, but I thought it would be the arrival of Lencho and company. She was so relaxed with him. I enjoyed that little bit during the eating of tacos. Michele: "When Mexicans say something has a little bite to it, it's really fire!"

I guess The Godfather is universal now. Alejandro's remark about making him an offer he can't refuse got a big grin out of Epifanio.

I'm starting to question my own morality. I don't even turn a hair when, as in last night's murder of all of Teresa's guards, miscellaneous guys get mowed down.

I second the hope that Teresa (or Ray) figure out that that tracker in her foot makes her very vulnerable.

Sofía is doing quite a job charming her Yaya. You're probably right, Jarifa, about Cayetana being jealous of Sofía having a relationship with Charo. I guess I just thought it was her usual barking orders style.

reina-sur2

deb, Dick Tracy watch!!! Good one!!

Reina 2

Thanks so much for the recap, Jarifa. It was so detailed it almost seemed like a transcript. You posted so quickly, too.

The Teresa/Lupo call at the start: This guy is a professional stone cold killer but last night he sounded like a lovesick schoolboy. Ah, first love... Teresa threatened to cut off his *bleeps* but I think she already has them in her bag.

Seriously, Lupo tried to warn her about taking on the US government. He knows what can happen. Apparently he's worked with them for years. But Teresa does not want to hear anything from him. Teresa asked about price? Last night Lupo paid. Now she sees. Looks like we get another off camera plan. Can't wait. DC here we come!

Get well soon, Oleg. Teresa really needs you now. He has always been a steadying presence for her.

In the battle of wills who will win, Sofia or Cayetana? My money is on Sofia. Maybe Cayetana will get a Sofia tattoo? All the Yayas I've known have been Greek.

Novelera, re morality: I hear you. I didn't think much about the guards either. And I'm wishing certain people dead. You can probably guess who. I do worry though about some of the innocents that may become collateral damage (from all sides of the story) Too many to mention.

deb, lol, Dick Tracy! Does anyone under a certain age know who he is? Agree Ray is so annoying. I'd like to give him a kick in the pants.

La Reina 2

say, Carmen and Virginia went to Culiacan to disappear from the bad guys, Manuela in particular, and here Epi just walks in the front door, hmm, and without an escort, perfect place for Teresa to grab him, Carmen might even help, if only Ray would spill.

Reina 2

deb, you have the makings of a good off camera plan there.

Was this a beanie moment? Did I miss the reason Epifanio showed up? How the mighty have fallen. In part 2 Epi is just a dupe. He is willing to let Teresa & Sofia go but if I recall correctly, in part 1, he said letting Teresa go was his big mistake.

REINA

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by the patio with all of your insightful comments.

Juanita, “Yaya” was a new one for me, too, so I looked it up online and there it was as “grandmother “ in more than one source even. Always something new to learn. I guess I was surprised that nobody had Teresa and her crew back to the house sooner.

deb, the old double cross by Manuela was a surprise because I was expecting Lencho, too.

novelera, we have a chain of restaurants in my area named “Yia Yia’s” and they are not Spanish. Morality in my tv viewing? I gave up all thoughts of that when I found that tv/movie productions were getting more violent over the years and I could either accept that or miss a lot of good story telling. I have never enjoyed the violence but you cannot escape it. So here I am watching a show where the heroine almost was made into chorizo. Sort of reminded me of Fargo and the wood chipper. Too funny.

dondi356, your comment about the contents of Teresa’s bag was so true and also funny. I would say that after Lupo’s latest abduction and roughing up, Teresa should at least forgive him.

reina-sur2

My two cents on Epifanio. He sorta, kinda has a bit of "honor among thieves". He waffled a bit when Sofía got a look at him when she was on the island. But he definitely intended to keep his part of the bargain, return Sofía, and let Teresa and her daughter go. It's slimy Erick Sheldon and his slimy agents: Alejandro and Manuela... who have planned all along to welch on the deal.

REINA

novelera, I like your take on Epifanio. I think you are right. Hey, he even refers to Teresa as “Teresita” at this point.

Thanks for another great recap, Jarifa! And thanks to everyone for your comments. My beanie moments in the past few episodes have been Lencho wearing hospital garb and getting in to see Zurdo in his room -- alone! Sure... And on top of that, Lencho seems to be in fine fettle after the huge gun battle where he ended up dragging himself along as if half-dead...did he actually not even have a scratch?!
As for Teresa's tracking device in her foot, was it ever very helpful for her and her team? It hasn't seemed to do much for them. Now it's being used against her. Ugh, I couldn't watch them put it in and I sure don't want to watch them cut it back out, but they'd better hurry up and do that. Maybe they can pull a Manuela (referring to her phone in the back of the truck that tricked Jonathan) and put Teresa's tracking device someplace to fool the bad guys.
Sophia is definitely a match for Yaya!
And Lupo, well, I feel sorry for him but he did kidnap Sophia and put her in the way of terrible danger, even if he himself didn't intend to harm her. She could have been killed or harmed any number of times. It's fine for him to say he's sorry but he deserves Teresa's wrath, in my opinion. I expect Teresa will get it out of her system pretty soon and make up with him, she obviously loves him.
Can't wait until tonight!
Lynne
