Reina-sur-2

Thanks, Jarifa. Your recap of Wednesday's action is superb.

On Ray, didn't he first target connect Jimena at the university as part of the investigation of Epifanio back when Carmen revealed herself as his wife?

Surprised about "Yaya." I guess Rocio and Paloma stopped using that endearment for their tart granny.

reina-sur2

Niecie, IIRC Ray met Jimena as someone who knew how to get overseas transcripts credited to Mexican universities. He was doing that for Paloma and immediately got a sweet tooth for Jimena.

reina-sur2

I'll do a brief recap tonight.

REINA

Niecie, yaya was the surprise of the night. One hour to showtime!

LA REINA DEL SUR – JUEVES – A Los Pies de Abraham Lincoln – Parte 1 de 2

DING, DONG, THE WITCH IS DEAD!!!

General Whatsisname tells Zurdo about the offer he won’t be able to refuse. He says he already has the extradition order. Z’s first option is a Gringo Prison or his second – an escape. The army will be the papelazo of the story (the one made to look incompetent) but the country will come out ahead.

Teresa, Jonathan, and Ray are walking around in D.C. Teresa expresses her contempt for the USA, specifically its habit of interfering in other countries’ elections.

At the DEA Michele is being hustled through a bunch of corridors. He says he doesn’t feel well, and some agents stand outside the men’s room.

By telenovela magic Erick Sheldon needs to pee. He takes Alejandro into the men’s room with him. Erick digs at him about the failures, and the scum Ale responds that at least the girl is dead. They’re sure to get Teresa very soon.

Sheldon wonders about the possibility of Teresa reappearing and telling the whole story. Lupo is perched on his heels on the toilet seat, listening to all this. Sheldon says that he and the President think Epi has too many skeletons in his closet. He tells Alejandro that the president of the US wants Ale to be the candidate. [Did Sheldon wash his hands before putting his hand on Ale’s shoulder?]

Sheldon goes on to say that he knows Epifanio could not be convinced to step aside. He’ll have to be “disappeared”. He tells Ale this will happen in one week. I’ll say this for Alejandro; he argued for his brother-in-law.

Kira comes home to find Ray with a gun to Sergio’s head and tape over his mouth. Kira to Jonathan: “You’re alive!” She goes on to realize that Sofía must also be. She’s tied to a chair and Teresa taunts her. She mentions that Willy was her teacher. Kira tries to get them to do this away from Sergio. Says he’s innocent. Teresa roars that her daughter was innocent and Kira’s pulse rate didn’t even rise thinking she’d killed her.

Kira thinks Sergio won’t believe them, but Teresa mentions the recording. Kira tries telling Sergio that Teresa killed his mother. But Teresa says that Sergio is a millennial; all he has to do is google and find out his mother died in a crash and that she, Teresa, was nowhere near there. At some point Sergio's tape is removed from his mouth and he tells his auntie he thinks she's a horrible assassin.

Kira won’t tell them where Michele is until they pretend to fire shots at Sergio and even then Jonathan thinks she lied. When Teresa fires a bunch of shots into the door where Sergio is, Kira goes wild, and manages to escape. [Oh, please. This was ridiculous.]

LA REINA DEL SUR – JUEVES – A Los Pies de Abraham Lincoln – Parte 1 de 2

Zurdo appears to agree with the plan. He signs the paper confessing to backing Mariano on the condition that they let his right-hand guy Lencho enter.

Teresa, Jonathan, and Ray chase Kira through the streets of Washington, D.C., firing shots and with Kira firing back. Teresa finally shoots her, I believe, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. They never showed the statue inside, but the title of the episode appears to say this.

We get a cheerful moment. Sofía is showing Charo how to make marmelade.

Our three tourists to the nation’s capital get away. Jonathan says their only chance is when they transport Michele. Teresa suggest a plane – a crop duster.

The DEA guys put Michele in a van.

Alejandro gets the news about Kira and is quite upset. He’s in the lobby of his hotel and Danilo walks over to him. Poor Danilo is expecting a good time and some touring of the city, but Ale disabuses him of this right away.

Mariano Bravo tells some underling that only the dead don’t talk. Time to get rid of Zurdo Villa.

We see Teresa’s plan. In two pickup trucks Teresa and Ray head toward the van carrying Michele. They fill up the road and head straight for the van. The van won’t stop, but when it passes the pickup trucks Jonathan drops a load of stuff on the van, obscuring the view of the two in the front seat.

Teresa and Ray approach the van with machine guns drawn. Teresa yells for Michele to get away from the doors and then shoots the van doors open. Ray tells the guy in the back that Teresa is the best shot he’s ever seen; don’t try his luck. They bluff this guy into un-cuffing Michele. Michele runs toward Teresa who gives him a pretty cold look. The three of them run to the trucks and take off.

I won’t be able to recap tonight or next Friday. When exactly does the show end? I’ve enjoyed it immensely!

REINA

blockhead, this ends one week from Monday. I, too, will be sorry to see it go.

REINA

novelera and Juanita, I will put up a recap for tonight’s episode but it won’t be up until Sat.afternoon sometime.

Reina 2

Great recap, Novelera. You hit all the important points opening the way for a lively discussion. Ding, dong, indeed! I lol'ed at "did Sheldon wash his hands" Que asco

This is the episode where we suspend all disbelief.

The Kira escape, guns blazing chase down the National Mall, Kira's death at the Lincoln Memorial. Doing DC Culichi style. Don't they have high security there? Right on, Novelera, how ridiculous.

That old telenovela magic has me in its spell: More ridiculous, IMHO, was the Lupo rescue. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled it was successful. Ray happens to have a million in cash in his pocket and Jonathan goes to Walmart customer pickup to get a crop duster?

DEA confab in the men's room with Lupo eavesdropping: Ale was pissed at the time and effort wasted. I'll give him that. Does he really care about Epi's well being? Nah, I think he's worried about being outed. To him that's a fate worse than death. Teresa won't have to put a bullet in his head--he will do it himself. Poor Danilo does not deserve this.

The hand that signed the paper (shout to Dylan Thomas): Too late for Mariano? How can he stop it from going public? War is coming. I'm not too worried about Zurdo stopping Teresa but I worry about collateral damage.

I get a feeling that alliances might shift again before this is over.

dondi356

La Reina 2

excellent recap novelera! always a pleasure to read!

yep, telenovela magic as dondi puts it, running through the streets with handguns, firing at each other.

I too noticed that Sheldon didn't wash his hands, nor did either take note of the two armed guards at the door, duh!

I've become so accustomed to Manuela being immortal I almost sorry to see her go, was it a silver bullet?

the general is a straight shooter, a man of his word, but no one else is, Zurdo is so doomed, unless he changes sides.

I think Alex enjoys being the puppet master, being president would make him the puppet.

Sofia being the target opens up the game, I think it's a matter of time before they grab Danilo and open his eyes. Bebita too, except the DEA has taken over, when do we get to see big Ed again?

Epi is a survivor, he may very well weather the storm.

reina-sur2

WOW!!! Muchísimas gracias, novelera, for yet another marvellous recap. I came home very late last night, and I didn't watch the recording I made until a few minutes ago.

What an exciting episode! I loved your title, novelera, and also your wonderfully snarky question about whether Sheldon washed his hands before putting one on Ale's shoulder. So the wicked witch is finally dead. It's hard to believe. Like deb, I almost feared Manuela was immortal, but I wasn't at all sorry to see her go. One more thing: I was racing through the recording this morning, and perhaps that's why I hadn't noticed that Lupo was "perched on his heels on the toilet seat." I kept wondering why Sheldon and/or Ale hadn't checked the stalls before having a very sensitive conversation. Now I know.

Yes, dondi356, this episode was built on telenovela magic. I especially enjoyed your snarky observation that "Ray happens to have a million in cash in his pocket and Jonathan goes to Walmart customer pickup to get a crop duster?" And I agree with you that Ale's not worrying about Epi, he's really worrying about being outed. Though I think he may also be a bit concerned about his pregnant sister.

deb, I kept fearing that Sheldon or Ale would turn around and notice the two armed guards outside the restroom door.

Jarifa, many thanks for offering to recap tonight's episode. I know it will be well worth waiting for.

REINA

I am late to the party today and am just watching this episode.

Thank you, novelera for your comprehensive and inspired recap and commentary. I loved your “witch” title as well as wondering if Sheldon washed his hands and declaring Manuela’s escape “ridiculous” because it sure was.

What a fun episode! I think I say that at least 5 times a week.

They have really done a great job of making Teresa look as if she has achieved a whole new level of “hardness”. For me this image and her attitude all started when she found out who Lupo was. I think it is a mixture her costuming, makeup and, of course, the talent of the actress herself. I so enjoyed her showdown with Manuela with her finally delivering that barrage of gunfire she of the sarcastic grin so well deserved.

I sure got a kick out of the government transport getting crop dusted. Lupo is riding with Teresa. Hmmmmm.

dondi356, ITA that Alejandro is seeing his whole personal life disappear before his eyes as he finds out he is going to be the president. There won’t be any happy ending for him. Good comment about possible shifting alliances in the future. Right now, old Epifanio isn’t looking too bad as an ally as he is being played by Sheldon. I am so glad that Lupo heard the whole of the dirty double cross.

deb, all I could think of was poor Danilo being such an innocent caught up with that viper Alejandro. I sure hope he gets out unscathed. It will be interesting seeing where Zurdo ends up at the end of all this if he is still even alive.

Juanita, I think I learned a new life skill: if one is having a sensitive conversation in a bathroom, one must open all stall doors just to be sure. Just thinking that Sheldon and Alejandro should have known better.

On we roll!

Reina-sur-2

Thanks, Novelera. I especially enjoyed the snark because this episode had my beating whirring at warp speed.

Yay, Kira is kaput, Lupo is freed. Amazing how our crack team was able to zip around downtown DC without getting into a traffic snarl.

Could Sheldon be faking out Ale? Surely he knows Ale is a closeted gay that wants to stay that way. It will be interesting to see how Ale puts his devious mind to get out of this mess.

Reina 2

I want to be clear--Novelera was the first to mention telenovela magic in her recap today.

I know there are postings of Spanish vocabulary and a Did I say that? on the site. Is there is a Caray glossary of terms? "Telenovela magic" would be in there.

Jarifa, I really like your observation about the transformation of Teresa. Sometimes I easily overlook the fact that these details are deliberate choices by writers, cast and crew. This show utilizes tons of talent.

I went back to look at the bathroom scene. Sheldon acknowledged the presence of the guards at the door and Ale took a cursory look under the closed stall. Place plot hole here. But remember we are suspending disbelief for this episode.

deb, maybe Big Ed will be the next president of Mexico.

dondi356

reina-sur2

dondi356, I've had my betting money on Big Ed for a while now. We're on the same page!

Reina
I thought it was funny Zurdo signed his name Zurdo Villa and not Nazario Beltran which is his government name.
That rescue of Lupo was way too easy! But as some of you have said “telenovela magic”!
And what did Sheldon and Alejandro think those guards were guarding by standing outside the bathroom?! They should have known where Lupo was in the transport process. Amazon tracks shipments better than that!

Reina
I also am assuming that Teresa is booked at a pet friendly hotel or she has boarded Tozzi while she left the country.

LA REINA DEL SUR 2 Capítulo 54 Friday 7/19/19 Part 1

The episode starts out with Sofía having a nightmare in which Lupo has come to tell her that he is dead like her real father and that her mother Teresa has killed him. She wakes up screaming. Her grandmother Cayetana comes running and consoles her and sings her a lullaby to help her fall back asleep. Cayetana looks at the family photo of her son with his daughters and remembers his piano playing. She starts to get emotional and has chest pains. Sofía wakes up again and asks what is wrong. Cayetana assures her she is fine. Charo is right there with some water with a few drops of valerian in it to help Cayetana calm down. She asks what is wrong. Cayetana tells her that death is getting closer. It is a selfish death that doesn’t want her to be with Sofía. Charo asks if she took her medicine. Cayetana ignores the question and says she now sees the irony in it all because the Mexican will be the one to win this war. She is in tears.

The news in Mexico is in a tizzy. It seems that Mariano Bravo has been involved in some unsavory arrangement with the drug kingpin Nazario Villa.

At Epifanio’s, he is outside walking around and admonishing a bird that just left some droppings on him as Vevita comes out to give him the good news that Nazario Villa confessed to financing Mariano Bravo’s campaign. Epifanio is a shoe in to win the presidency with no competition. They are overjoyed.

Back at a hotel in Washington, Danilo has guessed that something bad is going on with a very preoccupied Alejandro. Alejandro doesn’t want too get into the same old arguments with him. His preoccupation has to do with Mexico and Epifanio Vargas and not him. Danilo convinces him to stay and relax with him in the hotel room.

Also in Washington, Teresa, Lupo, Ray and Jonathan all arrive at a Chinese restaurant. They head to a back storage room. Jonathan explains this restaurant belongs to one of his buddies from college who still owes him. His buddy told them they could stay and not be bothered. Jonathan has the only key to the room. Lupo talks to Teresa and tells her he knows that she risked herself to save him. Teresa says they are even now. He tells her he found out something very important when he was being kept prisoner. They are organizing something really big. Teresa says that Manuela said the same thing. Lupo says he heard the head of the DEA tell Alejandro that they were going to pull Epifanio Vargas from the candidacy. He is disposable. Teresa cannot believe that the USA is going to decide the next president of Mexico. Lupo assures her that it is true and that he knew nothing about this when he started his mission. Ray tells Teresa how the girl he is dating turned out to be Epifanio’s granddaughter. He almost punched him in the snout and told him off when he met him but Epifanio has no idea he is El Güero’s nephew so they can always use his granddaughter to get to him. Teresa wonders how any of this makes sense if they don’t plan on using Epifanio anyway. Lupo adds that the president of the USA is behind this all. They have picked Alejandro Alcalá to run instead.

LA REINA Part 2

Teresa is shocked that Alejandro would agree to kill his own brother-in-law.

In the meantime, Epifanio and Vevita are celebrating with a toast. They watch the news happily. Epifanio gets a call from the president.

Teresa feels sorry for Mexico with either Epifanio or Alejandro as president. Lupo feels that Teresa’s plan (which they never discussed in front of the viewer) is perfect and wants to talk more privately with Teresa. She is not interested because no matter what he will always be her daughter’s kidnapper. She will never get over that. He should realize that just fact that she hasn’t shot him in the head is a big move forward. Jonathan and Ray break up the uncomfortable conversation. Teresa is left alone to think.

At the hospital, Lencho has come to see El Zurdo. El Zurdo informs Lencho that he is going to escape and he will let him know the details as time goes on. He also wants to know about Teresa. Lencho explains that they were tracking her but she was always with her bodyguards, they lost her and then she showed up in the USA. He shows El Zurdo on his phone. Zurdo wonders what she is doing there.

Batman is still nursing Oleg. He talks to him hoping he will regain consciousness so they can talk about sleeping beauty’s triumphal return”. Little does he know that Oleg has already regained consciousness as he opens his eyes and looks around when Barman has left the room.

Back in the storage room, Lupo approaches Teresa again to talk as she is sipping her tequila. It turns out that he is an orphan and he grew up in an orphanage. He doesn’t like to remember that. Teresa can understand. She tells him they have to get back to Mexico and that somebody will be there to help them cross over. He asks how Sofía is. She says she is well and that is all she will be telling him about her daughter. She reiterates that she still doesn’t trust him. She is sorry but that feeling is stronger than she is. He is just glad that Sofía is well and recognizes the debt he has with her after what she did to save him. He will do all he can to get the DEA off her trail. They leave to go back to Mexico.

That same night, Lencho, in his medical disguise, goes to El Zurdo's room and loads him into a laundry cart. He rolls the cart out of the room and says goodnight to his “relatives” (the military guards) who are conveniently talking among themselves. He rolls El Zurdo down the hall and into the parking garage where a van is waiting. El Zurdo’s men load the cart into the van and El Zurdo is free.

LA REINA Part 3

Cayetana is giving Sofía a tour of the Aljarafe property telling her how her family has owned it for more than 400 years. Their family has been there “since the world was the world.” She goes on to explain that soon it will all belong to Sofía because she is her blood and her only heir. Sofía asks about her sisters. Cayetana explains that they stopped being Aljarafe’s when they took Teresa’s side inspire of the fact that she was the one who made them orphans. Sofía asks if her grandmother believes in God. Of course! The family has always been Catholic and her grandfather even gave money to construct the church in town. Sofía reminds her that she has to forgive those who hurt her. Cayetana confesses that she just doesn’t know how to do that. Sofía does not give up and says God says that we have to forgive those who offend us. She grabs her grandmother’s hands and says she knows how strong and generous she is but hatred can destroy all of the grace thenAljarafe’s have. Cayetana kisses her hand and changes the topic to jam making.

In their hotel room, Danilo and Alejandro are both spent after finishing up some lovemaking when Alejandro spoils the mood by saying he has to go back to Mexico. When Danilo starts to complain, Alejandro asks if he trusts him or not. Danilo, of course, trusts him. Alejandro tells him to go sightseeing for a couple of days. He is to forget about the campaign. He will not be coming back to Mexico until he says so. Alejandro will be back in two days. Jonathan and Ray see Alejandro shaking hands with and saying goodbye to Danilo on the steps of the hotel.

In Spain, Cayetana has taken Sofía out to shop for clothes. They are followed by one of Cayetana’s employees who is carrying all of the shopping bags. Even though Sofía is enjoying the shopping, she is eager to get back home due to what her mother warned them about. Cayetana will not have that destroy their shopping spree and they continue on. Sofía tries to turn the tables on Cayetana to make her feel better by wanting her to buy some new clothes, too. She wants to see Cayetana get rid of all of the black in her wardrobe and bring some color into her life. They end up in a shop where Cayetana can shop. A gypsy woman is watching them.

Back in Mexico City, a triumphant Epifanio is having a campaign event. He talks about how corruption will end with his presidency as Alejandro looks on and the crowd cheers. Fireworks explode and Epifanio and company get nervous thinking it might be gunfire. Alejandro moves hm off the stage and they start to leave the venue. Epifanio starts to move through the crowd shaking well-wishers hands as Alejandro and his men try to keep the situation under control. Teresa is in the crowd.

LA REINA Part 4

In the confusion of the crowd, Teresa manages to wrangle Epifanio away from his guards. He wonders what Teresita is doing there. She convinces him to come with her because she has something far more important that they have to talk about than his hangers on. They slip into a bookstore as Alejandro and his men search for Epifanio.

Back in Washington, Danilo goes into a bar where he is quickly befriended by Andrew (Ray) as he tries to find a seat. They start to chat and flirt.

Epifanio just cannot understand what is going on with Teresita. He says she really likes dramatic entrances. She insists they have a lot to talk about. She tries to explain that he is surrounded by wolves. He laughs saying he is the alpha wolf. Teresa disagrees saying he is just a little lamb who is about to get his throat cut. She tells hm he is not going to be president. There is a plan to replace him. As Alejandro comes looking for Epifanio in the bookstore, Epifanio and Teresa hide in a closet. Epifanio wonders about her gun. She says she is no murderer unlike him and his “hangman”. He asks “what hangman?”. She says the ******* that is going to replace him as president. Alejandro keeps looking and asks the shopkeeper for “el señor presidente”. The shopkeeper thinks he is referring to the novel by Miguel de Asturias “El señor presidente” which is in the back on the left. Alejandro's momentary smile changes into a grimace as he keeps searching. Epifanio asks if Alejandro is going to be the candidate. He ties to write it all off. Teresa tells him he is just as she had suspected. He has no idea of what is going on. She admits that she was surprised herself when she heard it and tells him she isn’t in his shoes. She got the info from the puppeteers. She and he are only two marionettes. She tells him he can take it or leave it. She did put herself at risk coming to see him. He isn’t sure if he believes her. Outside the closet, Alejandro thinks he hears Epifanio’s voice and calls out to him. Epifanio leaves and aks what the big deal is. Can’t a guy go have a—-? Alejandro says that isn’t a washroom. They continue to argue as they vacate the store. Teresa listens and finally leaves. As she is going, the camera focuses in on what looks like two books about Luis Donaldo Colosio who was a Mexican presidential candidate who was assassinated at a presidential rally in 1994.

Danilo and Ray are still chitchatting. Ray says he knows a couple of really good gay clubs. He asks if Danilo is gay. Danilo just chuckles.

LA REINA Part 5

Finally, Epifanio leaves with Alejandro in their vehicle. Epifanio is doing a lot of thinking. Alejandro reminds him of meetings with the local chamber of commerce and a union leader. Epifanio tells him to cancel all of his appointments for that day. He knows when he is tired and he wants to rest the whole afternoon. Alejandro wants to know what’s wrong. Nothing, He just wants to rest up, be with his wife and get his priorities straight. The only thing he wants from Alejandro is for him is to drop him off at his house.

Ray invites Danilo to go out with him to the clubs tonight. He is up for whatever Danilo has in mind. Danilo seems happy with that and will call him at 8:00. Ray gives another guy a big smile on the way out. The guy smiles back. It is Jonathan.

Alejandro arrives at campaign headquarters. He is being followed by another man in a suit. They get on the same elevator. The man identifies himself as Cristián Núñez. He gives Alejandro a secret code that Alejandro recognizes. Cristián is his campaign manager. They have a lot to discuss.

Inside of a clothing store, Sofía is trying to convince Cayetana to buy a red dress. She wants to see her grandmother get with the modern times. She asks her grandmother if she is dead. Cayetana says she is not. Sofía tells her then she has to celebrate her life. Sofía hopes she has lots of time left because she is the only grandmother that she has., The gypsy woman watches from outside the doorway. After Cayetana and Sofía leave playfully arguing about painting Cayetana’s nails red, the gypsy woman goes into the shop to try to get some info. She finds out it was a lady and her granddaughter in the shop. She tells the shopkeeper not to worry because she is leaving and she does.

FIN

Well, I got home earlier tonight than I had anticipated. I sure enjoyed the episode.

Those were truly heartwarming scenes between Sofía and Cayetana. There seems to be hope for granny if she lives long enough to have some of Sofía’s positive expectations of her actually become reality.

The writers are so thorough in this novela. I couldn’t believe that they had those books about Colosio framed right there on the book shelf. How appropriate and creepy!

Poor Danilo. I can say no more on that character.

More mañana.

reina-sur2

Thanks so much, Jarifa, for this wonderful recap. You captured everything superbly. And special thanks for identifying the books in the bookstore. I had no idea what they were, but you've made it clear that they're very relevant to the novela, dealing with a Mexican presidential candidate who was assassinated at a presidential rally in 1994.

Sofía is right to be nervous about being outside the house. The gypsy woman who spots Cayetana and Sofía is the mother of Juanito, the boy who raped Paloma and then met his death in the presence of Paloma and Rocio. I suspect the mother would like nothing better than to make Cayetana suffer by harming her granddaughter. And we have the whole weekend to contemplate this.

REINA

Juanita, thank you so much for identifying the gypsy woman. This is one of the reasons I love watching these novelas with all of you; you can fill me in on what I have missed or forgotten. I felt like I was supposed to recognize her but didn’t remember that particular face. This makes it so much worse than when I thought it was an unidentified gypsy ready to bring the info back to Juanito’s family. Sofía is in harm’s way one more time due to no action on her part. As for those books, when I saw them being included in the scene, I just had to find out who they were about.

Reina
I’m impressed that Ray offered to use Jimena for their purposes and that he’s going undercover to get info from Danilo. Jonathan is a good influence!
I’m also impressed how Jonathan is taking charge. I like him and Teresa together. And how he called her Mi Reina a few episodes back. His name is mud now so I wouldn’t be surprised if they disappear together in the end. If everyone stays alive!

Reina-sur-2

Thanks, Jarifa. Fab recap, choice words and with all the details I needed. Appreciate the info on the camera shot of the book - that flew right by me.

I remember when Cayetana and the Gypsy woman got into a dustup early in the TN. IIRC, they were strangers to each other and bumped into each other (maybe the Gypsy tried to sell Cayetana something?) and Cayetana was rude and the Gypsy matched her insult by predicting a foul future for her. I didn't realize the Gypsy was the mother of Paloma's boyfriend.

Ale must be smart enough to know he too would one day become dispensable and get discarded like Epi. Mark Tacher is doing a fine job with this role. Good point made earlier that Ale is used to being the puppet master, not the puppet. He'll do whatever he can to save himself, but I do think he cares for Danilo.

Reina 2

Thank you for another great, detailed recap, Jarifa.

Epifanio, bird poop is good luck! It's a superstition I grew up with. Maybe it's a Mediterranean thing and not Mexican. Teresa has planted a seed and Epi's suspicions grow.
I remember the Colosio assassination in the news. I looked up details and found his campaign manager became president. There were many conspiracy theories and deaths in the aftermath. Interesting.

A tattoo for Cayetana: Sofia has written her name on her Yaya's heart. Too bad Cayetana's arrogance has put Sofia in danger. Who will rescue her when the time comes?

Teresa 1, Lupo 0: She's gonna keep him on the hook a while longer. Probably better that way--her lovers don't fare well. Can Lupo reverse the curse? Blockhead, Jonathan is waiting in the wings, also love your "Amazon tracks shipments better". In the meantime T & L will continue to do business. Did anyone notice how those scenes were shot? Very weird--like Kate Del Castillo and Raoul Bova were not in the same scene together and had stand ins. I wonder what happened.

Zurdo escape: waiting for that selfie post! lol

dondi356

La Reina 2

another excellent recap Jarifa, you are so good at this!

and thanks for the little details.

poop on Epi, love it.

Sofia brings life to this story (amongst all the deaths) love her scenes, yes Cayetana senses death but her heart has been touched, will the black veil that covers her life be lifted?

earlier I was thinking Epi may survive, he and Teresa do see eye to eye, but there is one small detail, Batman, who has one purpose in life, although he may help to keep others from killing Epi because he felt robbed when Teresa killed Ratas.

was that a price tag on the bottom of Ray's glass at the coffee shop, it was gone in the next scene.

hmm, the General's escape plan was to happen in transit to the prison, so this was Zurdo's plan, no one ever checks the laundry cart.

yep, Teresa told Sofia/Cayetana not to leave the house, maybe we will see Chaib again?

reina-sur2

Fabulous recap, Jarifa! Thank you so much for all those details, especially those about the books. I tried pausing my TV to see the book titles, but couldn't make them out.

Yes, Zurdo didn't mind signing the confession. Good point about it not being his legal name. So, we assume he didn't trust the army to really let him escape? I wondered for a moment if that WAS the plan and the General knew Lencho would do what he did.

Sofía is adorable, but it was kind of out of character for Cayetana to so immediately love her. IIRC she sort of tolerated Paloma and Rocío when they were that same age, at least in one of the flashbacks they showed.

I recognized that gypsy right away. And I'm sure Sofía will be her target. Please, please, don't let them get their hands on her. Sofía should have been tougher and flat out refused to leave the house.

That scene at the campaign rally was surely designed to make us think a shot was going to ring out at any moment.

I wonder what Ray and Jonathan's plans are vis-à-vis Danilo. One thing that definitely pleases me is the much-improved portrayal of gay men in TNs lately. Back in the 90's, if they appeared at all, they were stereotypical buddies of the heroine, wearing outlandish clothes and speaking in high camp.

I've been wondering about "Jarifa" and googled it. There was a reference to a 16th Century Spanish novella: The History of the Abencerraje and the Lovely Jarifa and wondered if that's where you got your nick, Jarifa.

La Reina 2

oh, best line of the night,
as Teresa hustles Epi off, he's worried they will be seen together, her reply,

"we're in a bookstore, no one reads anymore, it's empty"

REINA

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by the patio to comment on this exciting epsiode.

blockhead, I was also surprised and impressed that Ray has taken the initiative in cultivating a relationship with Danilo as well as being willing to offer up Ximena. Looks like the kid has matured. Yes, Jonathan has been a good role model professionally. Maybe Ray will have a career in the shadows somewhere like Jonathan.

Niecie, it was actually creepy to me that Alejandro's campaign manager was in place without Epifanio's candidacy being discontinued . . . to put it nicely. I do not think that Alejandro has any illusions about his position or the risks he runs. I also agree that he cares for Danilo.. Mark Tacher is doing an excellent job portraying Alejandro. I actually felt sorry for him since he is bing drafted for the presidency with no effects. I do more listening than watching some times, so it was a fluke that I actually saw those books on the shelf.

dondi356, yes, I was taught that "bird stuff" was good luck, too, and I must be very lucky. LOL Thank you for looking up the details on the Colosio assassination and how that same story could be mirrored here.

deb, Cayetana taking Sofía out of the house was so selfish. One would think that after her experience in Mexico, she would have gotten a hint that this situation might be beyond her control. Chaib to the rescue? It sounds like a possibility to me. Who else is there? Good choice for the best line of the night!

novelera, I think that Cayetana loves Sofía so much so quickly is because she is her only link to her dead son who she evidently adored. It seems that Sofía can also get away with telling Cayetana the truth and she at least half listens. I totally agree about the improved portrayal of gay men in telenovelas and across USA productions, too. It is long overdue. Yes, "Jarifa" comes from that little jewel of Spanish literature "El Abencerraje y la hermosa Jarifa". It is a wonderful tale of honor, loyalty and love in the world of Muslims and Christians when they both lived on and fought each other for control of the Spanish peninsula.

Reina
I laughed out loud at that too!

Good Morning, Telemundo Patio!

Telenovela Magic -Novelera

Beanies - ????

There are many, many more...anyone up for developing the "Caray Glossary?"
