DAYTIME TNs (#1): Y Mañana Ser Otro Día…Mejor y Mas - Week of Sept. 9, 2019

Welcome to page 1 for the week! Our new TN seems to be quite delightful and is attracting a very nice patio, including some recappers, but there is room for more! Everyone is welcome to provide highlights, summaries, or details of scenes/episodes. Questions about specific scenes or dialogues are also very welcome; someone is sure to respond and explain to ensure that you can enjoy the TN(s).

·         3 PM   - Y Mañana Sera Otro Día…Mejor:  Ep. 5-6*

Any daytime novela can be discussed and everyone is welcome to join in the conversation. Friendly reminder to PLEASE put the name of the telenovela you're referring to at the top of your post so readers can easily find the conversations they're looking for. (You can shorten the title to one word, i.e., “Mañana”)

*For some reason, the TV Guide indicates “Como Dice el Dicho” during this time slot on Tuesday…so it’s a wait ‘n see.

At the end of last week's recaps, Judy said she could write a Friday recap.

I can do a mini-recaplet of Wednesday's episode.

Who else on our Patio will pitch in?

That would be great Doris. Thank you. If no one steps up we can just discuss and answer any questions people might have. Susanlynn does not speak Spanish but she picked up some expressions over the years.

I'm sticking to my only one recap a week promise but here are a few key points I remember from the episode.

1. The usual only one hotel room available and only one double bed in the hotel room for Monica and her boss. Some fantasizing goes on but nothing happened.

2. Cristobal continues to be a jerk.

3. Mother Eugenia, after a brief moment of empathy, goes back to being a shrew and is drummed out of the house by Diana. Grandma goes home to cry.

4. Regina's prospective adoptive parents seem somewhat divided. The wife thinks the lovely house is useless without a little person running through the rooms. The husband thinks they're fine even if they don't have children.

5. Paloma continues to be practically nude in the house and is sent away from the breakfast table by her grandma. Get dressed before you come to breakfast missy!

6. Paloma's mom (forget her name) hits on Rafa and he hits back. They go out drinking and playing pool and he tells her his big romance in Miami was with a woman twice his age. And she broke up with him! Seriously, as Anita noted, this guy is looking suspicious. And then there are those pink lips!

7. Rafa continues to bug Mauricio as he seems to be taking over as second in command at MediaLink. Mauricio complains to Barbi and together they vow to not let Rafa take over and disinherit the rest of the kids plus Barbi's prospective husband.

8. Diana has a sweet evening at home with all her kids (minus Cristobal, obviously) snuggling in bed with her. Cristobal, or rather his parents, will be paying a huge fine plus lawyer fees, since his accident occurred because he was driving drunk.

The Patio can't thank you enough for tapping into your memory banks. I won't be able to watch or comment until Wednesday. I will be able to do a mini recaplet this Thursday.

Sorry, that was going out to JudyB. Thanks again.

It will only air Monday, Wednesday n Friday this week!

Mañana

JudyB, thanks so much for those highlights. I only caught bits and pieces of the episode today so I can’t add much. I did see Ximena all excited that Moni and Cami had “slept together” and that she kept hounding Moni that it was a good thing. So I suppose that Cami bring married is just minor bump that can be ignored (blech!)

I also saw how obsessed that lady who wants to adopt Regi’s baby was acting but the husband was trying to slow her down. I think Nina’s saying about “going all Lifetime” could be a possibility here; Regi had better get out of Lala land and think twice about this lady.

Alexander, so “Como Dice El Dicho” is airing on Thursday too?? What the heck is Looneyvision trying to do? Kill this TN???

MAÑANA

JudyB, thanks for your overview.

I haven't seen the episode yet, and while I very much enjoy this TN, I hope Alexander is right about it not being on Tuesday. It would give me a little time to catch up.

I absolutely hate it when my boring real life thinks it's more important than my TFL, my Telenovela Fantasy Life.

But sometimes stuff happens and won't be denied. Hopefully back to normal in a day or two.

:-)

andy

MAÑANA

Rgv Chick...yes, Ximena is kind of annoying, and her ethics code is a bit wobbly too. Fortunately our Camilo loves his wife and also sleeps like a log. He got a good night's sleep but I think Monica just lay there in a trance all night.

Andy...goodness, this is serious business when you can't keep up with your telenovelas. I know the feeling. Also the outrage I feel is my "just a story" is interrupted by a newscast. Well, we do need our fantasy life. But Reality forgets that sometimes.

Anita...if Alexander is right (and he always seems to be) you'll get this week off. We really appreciate both you and Doris stepping up though.

MAÑANA

Judy - thank you for your recap-let.

Cristobal is an annoying jerk. And he cannot be good at math since Rafa is older than Cris' parents have been married.

But it has odd how Diana and Camilo just accept that Rafa is his son with no DNS test. Apparently they are wearing their telenovela beanie hats.

And then there IS Rama's pink lips. (LOL)

"I absolutely hate it when my boring real life thinks it's more important than my TFL, my Telenovela Fantasy Life."
LOL Andy!!! Isn't that the truth. Life is what happens when we've made other plans. 😉

The Moni/Cam "sleeping together" scene was cute.

My mantra is -- how is Diana going to die when this show is presented as a comedy? Even the background music indicates comedy. Surely her cancer is not terminal, and Camilo is seriously in love with Diana, etc.

Argh! Darned spelling..... y'all know what I meant ...

Andy...You were right by the way. Camilo is trying to give up smoking. He reached for a cigarette after visiting Cristobal in the hospital. Monica stopped him and he gave her the whole pack for safekeeping.

MAÑANA

JudyB, thanks but we knew Camilo was trying to quit from the first episode where Moni finds his "hidden" pack of smokes and tosses them. I also read somewhere that he was quitting, maybe in Rgv Chickie's introduction?

But they never did explain the sniffing, so we can only speculate.

:-)

andy

Thank you again JudyB!!
What was meant by ending up like Dad? Did I miss something? (That would be Diana’s Dad)

Noticed Camilo and Diana said “Te quiero”, not “Te amo”. Can’t figure that one out since they both seem smitten and novelas have taught me that there is a difference!

Everyone knows that the way to share a bed with an acquaintance is heat to feet and feet to head

Mely

MAÑANA

Mely - when I heard that, I wondered if Diana's father died because he ignored a life threatening disease and died as a result.

MAÑANA

Mely--When Mama Eugenia said "Saliste igual a tu padre" I believe she was referring to evading the issue, which Diana was doing. So evidently Dad was in denial about some things too. At least that's how I interpreted it. "You're just like your Dad!" Maybe he had some chronic health issue, he was in denial about. Or could have been something else. Certainly Eugenia is bitter about a number of things and I have the impression her marriage was not happy.

Of course I completely missed that Camilo was trying to stop smoking in the first episode, so I may have missed something here too.

And here's my could-be-wrong opinion on "te quiero". I think people who love each other say both...te amo and te quiero but when they say "te quiero" it's just another way of expressing ongoing tenderness. And sometimes just a way of saying good-bye on the phone, like when we say "love ya."

Love your quip about how to share a bed with an acquaintance. Although I'm not sure I'd want someone's feet in my face!

Looking forward to this afternoon's episode.

And looking forward to your recap Doris. So grateful that you are helping out.

Oh and learned a new expression in Monday's episode. Remember when Rafa blithely called Mauricio "mi pana" that means "buddy". I foresee lots of territorial battles between those two.

Thanks for the recap, judyb. I am going to try to watch this show tonight so thatch can join in on the conversation.

Hi to my patio peeps.

Going up to 90 here today ...Then down to 70 on a Friday . ?????

MAÑANA & OT

JudyB, it would have been ridiculously easy to miss the cigarettes moment in the first episode. Moni did her usual routine of setting up his office, turning on the coffee, setting out his agenda, etc., but she also did a quick search and found an open pack of cigarettes and tossed them in the trash. Of course, Televisa won't allow any product placement whatsoever without being paid for it (ever notice the odd logos on car grills?) so it wasn't that easy to see just what they were. I got it because I had previously read he was quitting smoking, I don't remember where. I thought it was Rgv Chickie's intro to the TN before it started, but it may have been elsewhere on the internet.

9/11/2019, 18 years on

After the WTC towers went down most all cell phones were useless here. Only landline phones worked. Now 18 years on and Verizon will no longer support outside copper wiring, it's all being replaced by fiber optics. If you want battery backup in case of a blackout or other problem you have to provide it yourself with a device they provide that uses a bank of alkaline D-cell batteries. In the old days public utilities were mandated to provide backup, now it's flashlight batteries in your home.

Anyway, my internet connection is a sometimes affair these days as they are tearing up the streets around here for new sewer lines. Entire streets get cut off for a while now. I am also thoroughly annoyed with technology restrictions put in place for the convenience of tech companies. Internet connection out? No problem, I'll just "tether" my cell phone and use my data allowance for internet access for my computer.

Nope, not allowed. I'm not sure if it's my cell phone provider, Samsung, or Google, but it won't work with this phone. Rats! So I'm now reduced to typing on my cell or using outside wifi at Starbucks or elsewhere with a laptop. (It just so happens that the local Senior Center has decent wifi, and free coffee! Good wifi, but the coffee... better to pay for it elsewhere :-)

The need for tethering may be a once in a decade thing but I don't like being restricted from using it now. So I am shopping for a new internet provider, cell phone, and cell service provider. No hurry, I can get by as I have been doing for the past week, so I will take my time and investigate and try out alternatives. This may take a little while, tech companies hate to give out real information, they just want to hype their products and services. Whatever. Equis.

9/11 remembrance ceremonies here are much more low-key these days. In the first few years after the attack every company, every office and workplace had something somber, often candle lighting ceremonies and personal remembrances of people we knew who were there.

[/end of rant :-) ]

andy

MAÑANA
Andy—Thanks for stopping to add a few words about remembering 9/11. Has it really been 18 years? I still feel the moments I was first aware that this was not a single airplane accident as if it were yesterday. Then it came closer to home. We lost the husband of one of our attorneys at the Pentagon and my son and DIL lost 3 people they knew on the Boston flight that went down in Shanksville.

Also, thanks for you rant on technology in our day and age. My land line is still working, but I have to replace the phone sets go on the fritz. Gone are the days when the Bell Telephone guys showed up and fixed everything, even retiring when you wanted to add another line upstairs in a teenager’s bedroom.

Since there’s no Mañana tomorrow (apparently, thanks to Alexander), I’ll volunteer to do Monday as well as next Thursday.
Now, time to watch the episode. See ya all later.

Shoot. I’m to far from my tablet to see everything I type and Auto Correct plays tricks. Of course, I didn’t mean the Bell guys retired—they rewired (had to type it three times before it stopped changing it to retired just now).

MAÑANA

Here is my mini-recaplet. Keeping it brief. Please feel free to correct and add stuff I misunderstood or left out!

Cristo is back home from the hospital, promises his mother he will never run out, drink & drive, etc. He also does not want Diana to accept Rafa because, well, it’s all about Cristo, right? What an insecure turkey. ~rolls eyes~

Margarita and Manuel Gonzales (the adopting couple) seem legit in their desire to adopt. Marga seems almost obsessed while Manuel is going along with her. Just my take…

Monica gets flowers at work. Card says “Thank you for everything.” Who could that be? She daydreams it was Camilo with a kiss, but scriiiiiiitch! reality, girl! Long story short, Ximena sent them to make Camilo think Moni really has a boyfriend. Rafa overhears Moni’s side of that convo. Now he knows she is in love with Camilo.

Abuela and los Ganzales all go with Regi for the first ultrasound.

Barbi is mad at Mauricio about something he failed to do re: the wedding. He later wants her to have sex with him, since her parents are out for the night. Barbi is a virgin, saving it for marriage, and reminds him of that.
Actually, it’s a good thing these kids did not hook up, because everyone ends up walking into the house.

Ximena sets up Rafa on a date with Moni, without telling Moni. Ximena was way more excited about this than Monica, who tries to get out of it. Xi pushes her out the door with Rafa. There's nothing like a meddling BFF, right?

Regi comes home and does not realize she accidentally dropped the ultrasound pic on the floor.

Cam & Di have another romantic dinner and again she stalls on telling him about her diagnosis.

Paloma macks on Mauricio, who wants to reciprocate, but he is in Barbi's home. I knew this guy is a jerk!

The Gonzalez & their lawyer meet with abuela & Regi and Abue’s lawyer. Gonzo’s lawyer says they will sned Regi pics of the baby as it grows up. (Rego says no pics!)

Abuela’s lawyer says open adoption is not legal in Mexico (then where the heck is the Gonzalez’ lawyer from? Shouldn't she know this???) He wants Regi to go through an adoption agency and do it all legally. Regi says NO adoption agency. My baby, my terms. (spoiled much?) Regi says she will be 18 when the baby is born and then she can make her own decisions.

Camilo finds Regi’s ultrasound pic, thinks Diana is pregnant, tells the kids and gets them all excited. Nope, Diana says, it’s not her. Barbi says not her, she’s still a virgin. Then Regi walks in the door and tells them it is hers.

End of episode.

Excellent Doris! Thanks so much. I love mini-recaplets. It's like the Cliffnotes of Recapping. Such a time saver. And totally agree with you about Mauricio and Cristobal. Both a waste of oxygen though Mauricio is worse. Ugh. And I'm no fan of skanky Paloma either. Mauricio's big sin (that Barbi knows about) is he didn't show up to help her pick out wedding stuff (and maybe pass judgment on the dress?), and she took time off from her teaching job (kindergarten?) to set up the appointment. And he forgot. But I notice he kissed her out of her rage very quickly.

Loved, loved, loved the sexy, romantic night out of Camilo and Diana. How nice to see a happily married couple after all those years and all those kids. Wowza. Sign me up!

And Rafa seemed like a good guy in this episode, if a bit of a meddler. Really, why should he think he's required to arrange a love life for Monica? But it's nice he's going to try. I'm definitely tagging Mauricio as The Villain.

Andy and Anita...Thanks for the 9/11 reminiscences. Although I did not know anyone personally that died in those dreadful events, I, like every other American, remember the exact moment I learned of the towers and plane, and of course spent the rest of the day...and most of the week, re-watching everything. And how strange it felt, too, to have no planes in the sky for so long afterwards. And it takes me back to the exact moment I learned of President Kennedy's assassination (I was in Austria working and people in the shops were very sweet about giving me condolences) and the exact moment I learned of Bobby Kennedy's assassination (I was teaching at a college in Wiscsonsin. My apartment mate, who was eerily intuitive, woke up in the middle of the night, went straight to the TV, and turned it on as they were covering the event. In order to wake me up she kept turning the TV on louder and louder until I came out to see. Such horrible news you don't want to experience alone...but somehow she felt she couldn't just knock on my door and wake me. But talk about ESP! She never did that before or since. Just strange. And sad.

Andy...good luck on your tech troubles.

Susanlynn...Yes, yes yes! Join us. I think this is going to be mostly comedy in spite of Diana's fears about her health.

MAÑANA

Judy, I agree about Camilo and Diana still being so madly in love after all these years. Them making out in the driveway was funny.

I will always remember where I was, what I was doing on 9/11.

How interesting that your roommate woke up with ESP about Bobby Kennedy. I had a similar ESP experience when hubby's father was dying.

MAÑANA

Doris, great job on the recaplet. thank you!

JudyB, ITA about Diana's and Camilo's dinner date; their relationship is still such a loving one...something we hadn't seen in a TN in a looong time; though Monica was not too happy to see them. Don't know how anyone else feels, but I didn't think it was appropriate of Monica to bring it to Diana's attention and Diana apologizing for it and assuring Monica that she would try to avoid kissing her Camilo.

I thought the phone conversation between Rafa and his Miami buddy was interesting, if not odd. Rafa wants to help Monica find someone else (him?) since he knows that she has no chance with his father. And he also mentioned wanting to help his family resolve their problems. Rafa is hoping to stay longer than planned in Mexico because, after all, he wants a family, though he doesn't want to offend his mother and someone named "Iñaki" (whoever that is). Then he made the comment that "In a way, they are my family" (they being Camilo and his family). My first thought was that maybe Rafa isn't too sure that Camilo is his father. Anyone else have thoughts about that conversation?

Susanlynn, how wonderful that you are joining us! YAY!!

OT - Andy, thank you so much for the 9/11 remembrance; I can't believe it's been 18 years. For those of you who like to read, there is a book I read several years ago titled, "When Your World Falls Apart: Life Lessons from a Ground Zero Chaplain" by Mike Macintosh. I found it very inspiring.

Doris...Oh my...it’s amazing the ESP moments so many of us have had—and don’t usually share for fear of people scoffing. So glad you could tell us that.

RGV Chick....Yes, very strange making a wife feel guilty for a romantic night out with her husband!? Just no. I think Rafa indicated he was going to get Monica into “circulation “ but he wasn’t thinking of her as a novia for himself. And I’m going to get that book you mentioned from the library. Always looking for good reading material. They say you should read at least an hour a day to keep your mind sharp and I doubt reading the closed captions on my current telenovela really counts as that! LOL

9\11

Our older daughter was working right next to Rockefeller Center at Banco Santander on That day. She walked in her heels from there to the Hudson River and was taken across to Hoboken by one of those tour boats because the bridges and tunnels were closed and It was the only way to get out. She called and said that she was sitting at a cafe in Hoboken watching planes flying overhead waiting for her fiance who worked in Times Square. We picked her up and brought her home for awhile. As we approached Hoboken, there were lights focused on where the towers had stood and they illuminated the dust particles in the air. It was surreal. In December, we went to Our favorite inn in Cape May ,NJ and met a young firefighter who told us about taking the ferry into the twin towers . Those firefighters ran into those buildings while everyone was running out. Awful day.

MAÑANA

Doris, thank you for an excellent recaplet which was not all that "mini" as you went into quite a bit of detail.

Some of these characters have me confused. I was very suspicious of the "ideal couple" and of Rafa. They are now looking not so bad. Like Rgv Chickie I found Rafa's phone conversation very interesting though there were parts of it I simply did not get. If I get a chance I will have to see if Closed Captioning helps. But even if Ol' Pink Lips is not a bad person he is way too pushy for my taste.

So the family now knows about Regina. Maybe they can tease out who is the baby daddy. But Diana will probably put off telling Camilo and the rest about her cancer.

I know it's awfully, awfully silly, but I'm enjoying Chabela's feuding with Granny Eugenia, and now wearing a maid's uniform. AND Chabela is old enough to talk slow enough that I can understand her. I love it when I actually understand the dialog without assistance.

:-)

andy

MAÑANA

Susanlynn, it's very nice to see you here.

I count myself lucky that I have never had to walk really far in heels.

Um, it was a long time ago and... oh, nevermind.

:-)

andy

Hi, Andy. I always enjoy reading your comments. Your good sense of humor always gives me a smile. Thank you. It will be nice to be here among friends.

MAÑANA

Andy - you always make me chuckle. When we were first married, hubby wore my pair of cowboy boots in the snow because all he had were dress shoes, and he had to go to work. His legs ached horribly from the heels on those boots, and they were men's cowboy boots! (Yes, my foot is that big-LOL)

I couldn't get the gist of Rafa's phone call, so that's why I did not mention it in the recaplet. The closed captions on Comcast aren't as reliable as they were with ATT. #trade-offs #adjusting When people speak really fast, the CCs just give up and go away. 🙄

I thought Chabela had quit, and was surprised to see her. But then I was multi tasking during Monday's episode so probably missed that. 😜

❤️susanlynn - I hope you will like today's episode and stay with us. The more, the merrier!

Don’t feel bad Doris. I can wear my adult son’s shoes and vice versa. Hated having such long thin feet as an adolescent but am certainly resigned now.

Susanlynn...what a 9/11 story! Gave me chills just reading it.

9/11

Thank you for sharing your story Susanlynn. I'm glad your daughter escaped and our hearts still ache for all those lost.

My brother's friend was the Executive Chef at Windows on the World. On 9/11, instead of going to work, he went to have his watch fixed. A last minute change of plans that saved his life. There were other terrible stories including a young man working as a bus boy who came back to work a day early from his vacation because he missed it.

We will always remember.

Warm wishes to everyone on the patio.

Diana

Thanks to everyone for the recap bits as well as the 911 memories. I had scheduled that day off from work (random, no special reason). My daughter called and told me to turn on the tv, just after first plane hit. Needless to say, I sat glued to the screen all day and night.

I also wonder if Diana is actually in a terminal state. Lots of family sub-plots to keep track of. I missed seeing this last episode because my husband was leaving for a dr. appointment right as the plumber arrived to do some work. Forgot all about the TN.

I guess the main point was Regi revealing her pregnancy, probably resulting in lots of meddling from the others.
