MAÑANA

I am only getting to watch this now.

I was out and didn't get back till a little after 3:30. I figured there was no sense in watching the second half and then the first half later.

MANANA
9/5 Epi #3 – All in the Family (plus 1 in the future?)
Part 1 of 2

Still at the apartment early in the morning, Monica is reluctantly pressured into agreeing to be Diana’s replacement scheme when “she’s no longer here,” as Xi puts it later. Di says this is what she really wants. She says this is like a story they are going to write together. (What could go wrong? Di is not thinking through the ramifications — making Camilo think he’s cheating on Di, even if it’s only in his mind.) Oh, and she’s invited to dinner that night, the one for Rafael.

Cam has to drive the kids to school. He calls Moni from the car. She doesn’t answer. Under the co-conspirators instructions she is: 1) not to answer Cam’s calls in the morning any more; 2) to be late to work; 3) to tell Cam she went out after she left them the night before with a “special” friend. Cam is not amused. Neither is Nora, who now wants a copy of Cam’s daily agenda. The place was in an uproar without it or her. Moni promises it will never happen again.

Chabala puts a bug in Di’s ear about how thick Eugenia and Reggie have been the last few days. She’s sure something is up. Meanwhile, Reggie and Granny are indeed up to something. They seek out the prospective adopters of Reggie’s baby. Manuel and Margarita welcome them to their palatial home. Eugenia keeps trying to put the brakes on Reggie-—legal matters, bad intentions, the opulence, they might be trying to buy them. Once Reggie hears that they tried to have a baby but were unable to, it’s a done deal. They offer to get a lawyer so everything is on the up and up.

Di apologizes to Doctor Juan. She promises to come in for all the tests. Reality sets back in. She stops writing and thinks about her cancer in the bathroom mirror.

Chaba is helping get the house ready for the surprise on the family at dinner. She interrupts Di and has her come downstairs. Di’s sister Laura and her niece Paloma have arrived from Brazil. The story is that Laura’s hub was a louse and took off with a Brazilian chippie about the same age as Paloma. He left her with a mountain of debts and they took her house and all her possessions to repay the debts. They are technically homeless.

Reggie and her Granny have it out over the destiny of this baby. What about the putative father, asks Eugie. Reggie snaps that he doesn’t count. This is her baby, just hers.

Xi is getting Moni ready for the dinner. Moni knows this isn’t going to work. Cam was not moved at all that she had a special date. He was just upset and angry that she was late.

Mauricio, Barbara’s novio gets his nose out of joint when he realizes he was not invited to the family dinner but Moni was. He feels he’s more family than she is. Once outside, they almost make love in the bushes. Mau’s nose gets further out of joint when he sees this guy arrive on a motorcycle.

Chaba overhears Eugenia talking to the family lawyer about Reggie’s pregnancy and probably putting it up for adoption. (Did anyone catch whether she said Fernando or Armando?)

9/5 Epi #3 – All in the Family (plus 1 in the future?)
Part 2 of 2

Rafa cheerily greets the kids who are lolling around the living room. He later tells Moni he’s awfully glad she’s there. Cam arrives home. Niceties go all around. Cam begins his introduction to the story—a long one, but it's something VERY IMPORTANT. Cristobal guesses Di is pregnant again. Cam has a hard time getting everyone’s attention.

Chaba has stealthily left Eugenia’s and hot trots it over to Di and Cam’s place. She remains outside and begs Moni to send Reggie out and to tell her she knows Reggie’s secret. Reggie leaves the group, interrupting Cam once again. Reggie is furious with Chaba—sticking her nose where it doesn’t belong. She raises her voice and is very disrespectful. Chaba stands firm. Diana should be part of all these important decisions. Moni returns to get her and gets an earful and then a tongue-lashing from this insolent teenager. Chaba confronts Eugie later. Eugie admits the kids have no rules or limits—but they have been raised with lots of love.

Things don’t end well with the big revelation. Cristobal, the little snot, reacts so negatively that he grabs poor Rafa aggressively and refuses to recognize him as a brother. The rest are just sort of dumbfounded, even as they are told Cam didn’t cheat on their mother, this young man was a result of a relationship prior to his knowing their mother and he and Di just found out. That makes no difference to Cris. He storms out of the house telling Cam to just forget about him. (Did anyone see what he took from that purse? The camera gave us a close up, so it must be or will be important? Was it Laura’s purse?)

Manana

Andy--Hopeo you have had time to watch it all. Here's the skinny in print. It's still fun. I'm waiting for the first villain to make an entrance. Well, not waiting, but expecting.

If anyone watched La Candidata, the actor who plays Laura here was Daniela, Regina's assistant. She had short hair then, short hair now.

MAÑANA

Thank you, Anita, for your recaplet.

OMG all those kids need some manners, respect for adults; their various behaviors are appalling.

Cristobal strikes me as maybe a stoner or budding alcoholic. This kid really creeps me out.

Rafa might be the best behaved, manners, etc. offspring of the whole lot. Of course..... he was raised by someone else. Do we know if his mother is alive? Seems like Rafa said she is and refused to leave Miami. That leaves the door open for her to come visit at some point.

How Diana thinks she and Moni can make Camilo fall in love with Monica is behind me. Diana is a dreamer for sure, not plugged into reality. Maybe that's part of why her parenting is so lax?

MANANA
JudyB--I wasn't going to ask, fearing I would show my ignorance, but I had no idea what Folsom's you were referring to, LOL it was just AutoCorrect taunting you.

Doris--Yes Almudena is alive and living in Miami. In the first epi, Rafa said she never, ever spoke ill of Cam. She always had good memories of him. Also, Di at first wanted to go fetch her to become the replacement, while she was still toying with having a "focus" group from which to choose. In the 2d episode, Rafa explained that she HAD remarried, and the guy adopted him, that's why his name is different. When they parted ways, he went back to Spain, but the three remained good friends. Cam asked Rafa if she would ever consider coming back to Mexico, but Rafa said no, she wouldn't leave Miami.

This is why recaplets only work so far. Can't include everything or it wouldn't be a recaplet!

MAÑANA

Thank you Anita. for reminding me about Alumeda....just couldn't pull it up on my own. Hard drive is getting full. Gah.

MAÑANA

Anita, thank you for this recaplet. I think it works just fine!
:-)

I was not impressed with Camilo's reaction to Moni's lateness, etc. How many years has she been keeping him on track? He is obviously not good at it himself. He could have been more gracious.

I was glad to see Diana start to take her cancer more seriously.

Cristobal comes off as a real jerk. Hopefully he will shape up with time.

Paloma sure didn't hesitate to butt into her cousin's romance. Was she asked for her opinion? If so I missed it.

And poor Moni seems to be in the middle of everything, like it or not.

Regina is a cute little thing, but way too determined to do things the way she wants with no input from anyone else. And that ideal couple is way over the top ideal. And why no sign of baby daddy?

I didn't find this episode as much fun as the first two, too much bad behavior. Still good.

:-)

andy

Thanks Anita. You told us all we needed to know. Perfect. And loved the title.

Well we know this is a madcap comedy because everybody talks at warp speed and, apart from one tremulous moment in front of the mirror, Diana is just zooming around like a loca trying to make this office non-romance work. Although presumably it will eventually. However the brief photo they showed of Almudena indicated she looked a lot like Diana. Men usually go for a certain type, body build etc. and Mónica is the exact opposite of Diana. And seems to stalk around like a linebacker, or someone who just got off a big horse. Whereas Diana floats. Oh well. This will be interesting.

Andy...I saw the sniff scene. I think she was just teasing him. She seems to have an odd sense of humor. And it was like..hmmm..do you have bad breath?..nope, okay, kiss kiss.

Is everybody getting the vibe that Rafa is already in love with Mónica so he and his father will end up being rivals for her affection--if Diana's plan works? Wow, this could get very Byzantine. But then it's a madcap comedy! olé olé!

MAÑANA

Anita, thank you so much for the recaplet. We had a thunderstorm pass through a few minutes after the show started; so I only got to see the first few minutes since my satellite signal went out :-(

I'm glad I missed Regi's lashing out; She was going to be one of my favorite characters. Hopeofully she'll mend her ways and not have too many outbursts.

Doris, "Cristobal strikes me as maybe a stoner or budding alcoholic. This kid really creeps me out." ITA!! Cristoner will probably get some really hard knocks before he changes...IF he changes.

Andy, "I was glad to see Diana start to take her cancer more seriously." Yes! Finally!

MAÑANA

JudyB, I was writing while you posted. Yes, I certainly got that Rafa is quite interested in Moni. Oooh, I hope he won't become his father's rival...that would give everything a sour twist.

MANANA
Andy--nobody asked Paloma for her advice. She was pretty crass telling Barbie that you wouldn't buy a pair of shoes without trying them on first.

RGV--I was disappointed in Reggie as well. They are probably bringing the kids flaws to our attention early on. After all, if everybody was perfect, we'd probably be switching channels.

Cris came home in the morning after being out all night. He was definitely drunk or on something.

MAÑANA

"Well we know this is a madcap comedy . . . "
Judy, I was thinking the same thing by yesterday's show! Madcap comedy, indeed. Or brought to mind the movies from the Hepburn/Tracy era.

MAÑANA

JudyB, thanks for your thoughts on the sniffing scene. Sounds good, you might be right. I'm going to have to keep an eye on her. She certainly is a chipper sort most of the time.

It's just that that scene baffled me.

:-)

andy

MANANA
Thank you Anita. That was “just right!”
This is a crazy premise. Am cranking my beanie very hard

The house of Camilo and Di is decorated wildly. Guess it matches their family life. Couldn’t tell what was sticking out from behind the pillows on Di’s bed. A velvet pumpkin or the back end of an animal
M&M’s house was stark in comparison The pool would be a deal breaker for me

It is always hard for me to see how lovely parents have such unpleasant teenagers in novelas

Chabala and Reggie were sure hitting us over the head with the 40 years business. I think we got it

Rafa takes (rips?) off his helmet. He looks fab in his light pink lipstick. Do I scent a storyline here?

Cris took car keys

Mely

Manana

Mely--Thanks. What Cris took bothered me so much I had to re-watch. Yes! When Cam got home, he threw his keys down near the purse. That's exactly what Cris took. Obvio, he's not going very far after the gas runs out, unless he carries a pocketful of credit cards.

Scenting a storyline! Good one. Emmanuel played a very likable gay character in Corazon Que Miente. However, I doubt he'd take another gay role so soon. Maybe the pink lipstick was Make-Up's mistake. Anyway, I'm pulling for a hetero-Rafa (just my personal desire).

Manana

Andy--You said, "I was not impressed with Camilo's reaction to Moni's lateness, etc. How many years has she been keeping him on track? He is obviously not good at it himself. He could have been more gracious." In semi-defense of Cam, he was more upset that she didn't bother calling to let him know she was going to be late--and that he couldn't get ahold of her. Still no excuse for the anger cum silent treatment he gave her.

Oh, I loved Xi scolding San Antonio for having things go wrong and putting him in the kitchen cabinet.

MAÑANA

Anita, You're right. Moni really should have called to say she would be late, that was a poor part of their "plan". And I also liked the bit with St Anthony. In another TN recently he was buried to help along a romance.

Mely, thanks for mentioning that ridiculous pink lipstick on Rafa. I only took it as a make-up goof, but who knows? :-)

andy

Hi...I am confused . I just turned on Uni (3.00) and a show called " Ringo" is on. Is anyone be watching this show ?

Ringo was originally slotted for the 3 pm slot. But they're showing Mañana here Susanlynn. And on everybody else's channel as well. Not sure what's going on at your place.

MAÑANA #4 IT'S A CRAZY MADCAP COMEDY WITH UNWED MOTHERS, CANCER AND CAR ACCIDENTS

Part 1

Wow. I feel like I need to watch this one with sunglasses on. The colors are screaming bright and every room in Camilo's house seems packed with STUFF. Brightly colored stuff. Is this because our crazy madcap mom with cancer lives in a fantasy world? And has a career writing children's stories? Anyway, I'm having trouble finding my footing here. And all the other characters seem to be in the same boat.

But let's slow down and go through what happened..or seemed to happen...in today's episode. Cristobal, who at some point is described as the "spoiled one" [consentido] grabs the cars keys, roars off, doesn't answer his cellphone (which was good--after all, he was driving), settles at his usual bar and knocks back a toxic number of tequilas. Then at daybreak heads off for Acapulco, after calling a buddy to meet him there. We know where this is going, right? Car crash for sure.

At home, there's a great conversation where oldest daughter Barbi berates her dad for not using protection in his youthful romance. Terrific. Now it's the kids lecturing the parents about birth control. Camilo offers the lames excuse that they didn't know much about contraceptives in those days. Por favor! Camilo tries to talk to each child individually without much success, although Regina makes a wry remark about what a bummer, a kid out of wedlock [cañon, no?]

And Mom calms Nico down (who's hiding under the bed) by playing one of her frantic fantasy games about a little fat rat, and she's the huntress. The story requires an ogre (Nico does a very convincing roar with some coaching) and also a magic flute. Evidently this is the fantasy world that Granny Eugenia uses as a club to beat down her daughter as a poor parent. Oh my...

MAÑANA #4 IT'S A CRAZY MADCAP COMEDY WITH UNWED MOTHERS, CANCER AND CAR ACCIDENTS

Part 2

Monica is stressing because Camilo is not calling at 7 am as usual. Camilo and Diana are sniping at each other instead of supporting each other, but that, alas, is typical under stress. We see Cristobal falling asleep at the wheel while his parents stress and dither about his absence. Right when he hits the wall, Diana, at home, drops a plate which shatters. Okay. Call of the blood. Check. Dr. San Martin calls Diana again to insist on an appointment. And has she told Camilo? Nope. Barbi, who's cleaning up the mess, asks her mom to promise her that Laura and spawn won't live with them. Diana lets her know they'll be staying with Granny Eugenia. There's a weird scene where Paloma (clearly not a "white dove" but a wildly flirtatious female) gets inappropriately close to Camilo, tells him he smells great and flounces off, swinging her hips. Doesn't help that she's barely dressed. Ay yi yi, the beaches of Rio have invaded a Mexican household! Watch out. This segment ends with Camilo and Diana hugging each other at last. A good sign. Although all those "things are going to be fine" statements annoy me. We DON'T KNOW THAT. And it's only natural to be worried. So just stop with the false reassurances already!

MAÑANA #4 IT'S A CRAZY MADCAP COMEDY WITH UNWED MOTHERS, CANCER AND CAR ACCIDENTS

Part 3

Granny Eugenia, who certainly gets around, has landed at MediaLink to make sure Monica stays mum about Regina's pregnancy. Granny E will take care of everything. Rafa of the Pink Lips arrives, totally without boundaries, and asks if there's any news of Cristobal. As if that weren't enough, he introduces himself to Granny as Camilo's son.
By the way, I truly don't think that's lipstick. I've seen this guy in something else and he really does have those pink, rather fleshy lips. Evidently very good circulation, what can I say?

Granny wastes no time getting back to Diana and berating her some more--this time about "having to learn about Camilo's illegitimate son from strangers! And furthermore, neither you nor Laura know how to choose husbands!" Di straightens her out momentarily by explaining that this occurred long before she and Camilo met. "Menos mal" [so much the better] mutters Granny. She's horrified they've already told the kids, and even more horrified when Di tells her that Laura and Paloma will be moving in with her.

Well, we knew that there had to be a bad guy, right? It's Mauricio who'll be playing snake in the grass in this one. He's not liking that Camilo wants Rafa to learn all about the business and guess what? he's to be the one who fills him in on everything. Already suspicious about Rafa's motives, he bristles when the latter asks to see all the financial records. Clearly, Mauricio figured as Barbi's novio he was going to be the next in line for heading up the business when Camilo retired. This new pretender to the throne is verry bad news. But I did love his phone conversation with Barbi when he was trying to scope out the other kids' reactions to Rafa. About Regina, she said "ni fu ni fa" [basically, neutral]. Just love that expression for some reason.

Granny does some more berating...this seems to be her main way of conversing...when Laura and scantily dressed Paloma arrive at her apartment. There are a lot of "I told you so's" as well as a crushing "how do you expect to find work, you don't know how to do anything?!". Ay yi yi...with a mom like that, we can understand why Diana likes to live in a happy happy fantasy world. Nevertheless, by this segment's end, she has promised the doc that she'll tell Camilo and the children about her diagnosis. And the sooner we start treatment the better. "Yes," she agrees, "because I still have a lot to write." (The last time I saw a friend in the hospital with terminal cancer, I remember her saying "Judy, I thought I had more time.") I hope Diana has more time, but I don't know. This story has a very strange arc so far.

MAÑANA #4 IT'S A CRAZY MADCAP COMEDY WITH UNWED MOTHERS, CANCER AND CAR ACCIDENTS

Part 4

Diana, dressed in lurid oranges and blues, arrives at the office and speaks briefly with Monica about Cristobal's disappearance. Moni tries to reassure her by reminding her that once he vanished for 3 days once and turned up fine. Di tells her she's going in to tell Camilo about the cancer.

Ugh, I knew something was going to interrupt this tardy confession and sure enough, just as she's about to speak, his cell rings. He goes to turn it off but it's an unknown number. She tells him to answer and of course it's the news that Cristobal has been in an accident and is in the hospital.

Chaos and hysteria ensues. For some reason it's considered best for Diana to go home and Monica and Camilo to go see Cristobal. Rafa volunteers to take her back home while they leave.

In the meantime, Regina, who has skipped school and her important soccer match, is spending the afternoon with the prospective parents of her baby. It's a gala picnic. Something they like to do as well as staying home all day and playing videogames. Evidently his extremely lucrative business runs itself. A fantasy couple for our fantasy madcap comedy. But at some point serious questions arise. One, what about the father? Regina considers that her personal business. Alright then, how sure is she that she really wants to give the baby up for adoption? 50 per cent? 70 per cent? 110 per cent! answers Regina firmly. Okay then.

MAÑANA #4 IT'S A CRAZY MADCAP COMEDY WITH UNWED MOTHERS, CANCER AND CAR ACCIDENTS

Part 5

Granny, in chronic berating mode, is telling Paloma to cover up "This is not carnaval de Rio!" (And I've been to the carnival in Rio in my own crazy madcap days in the 60's and she's absolutely right. There's very little clothing involved and an incredible amount of shakin' going on. Quite the place.) Chabela at one point tries to butt in and is roundly reproached. Then our busy Granny is off to school to check on Regina--only to learn she has skipped out. Back like a flash. This time to see Diana and to berate her for her poor parenting. And how can she be lying there in bed if Cristobal is in the hospital somewhere!?

Diana quietly tells her "Mamá, tengo cancer de mama" [breast cancer]. And for once Eugenia wisely says nothing. And gently clasps Diana's hand.

Our episode ends with Monica and Camilo learning from the nurse that Cristobal was incredibly lucky. No fractures, no broken bones. Just knocked about a bit. In relief, he turns and gives Moni a big, long hug, which she blissfully accepts.

Whew. Is anybody else as confused as I am? This is a very strange mix of characters and storylines, all overlaid with some kind of screaming color that's like Disneyworld on Crack. Maybe we'll get our bearings in a few more weeks but right now my brain is just reeling. How about you Patio?

Judy..wow. That is odd. My tv weekly said manana, but the title at the bottom of my screen said ringo. A handsome guy was tucking a little boy into bed.

Thank you JudyB. A stellar recap as is your style!

I have to admit I did not care what happened to Cristobal. An unpleasant character

Regina included Rafa in listing siblings.

DI wore same clothes from early morning visit to Rafa dinner. Unusual in novela.

Rafael does keep popping up at odd and awkward times

Those bedrooms look like a 1950’s wallpaper factory exploded
Even the bird nest Pringle’s in Regina’s room looked like an explosion

Something that always bothers me is the way characters in new novelas respond to stress by drinking. After giving up on Mi Marido because I just couldn’t take another PSA I find it strange that it is pretty much consistent in novelas

Mely

Judy, thanks for giving us a thorough summary. "This is a very strange mix of characters and storylines, all overlaid with some kind of screaming color that's like Disneyworld on Crack." I'll go along with that. Can't see why Diana isn't trying harder to treat her cancer, instead of tamely accepting her genetic fate. Of course, then we would have a different story.

Did little Nico run out into the street following his older sister when she left school? Will he turn up missing? The three actors in the triangle are all ones I really like, so I'll stick with this for the time being.

MAÑANA

JudyB, I was SO waiting for your snarktastic recap; I enjoyed it in its entirety, but especially liked..

Paloma (clearly not a "white dove" but a wildly flirtatious female) gets inappropriately close to Camilo, tells him he smells great and flounces off, swinging her hips. Doesn't help that she's barely dressed. Ay yi yi, the beaches of Rio have invaded a Mexican household!

…all those "things are going to be fine" statements annoy me. We DON'T KNOW THAT. And it's only natural to be worried. So just stop with the false reassurances already!

This is a very strange mix of characters and storylines, all overlaid with some kind of screaming color that's like Disneyworld on Crack.

ITA about the colorful house and Diana's clothes..wow! Hard to fall asleep with all that color! But I really like the wall murals in Regina's and Diana's rooms...beautiful!

Susanlynn, my Dish guide has "Ringo" listed also, but "Manana" is what actually is being aired. I guess Univision didn't notify everyone about the change they made.

More later...

You’ve definitely got Manana then Susanlynn. So far it’s a very strange story. But the patio is stellar.

La Paloma...Nico forgot something and ran back to get it from Regina. But I thought he returned to school. And I agree...a great trio of actors. Plus the time is right!

Mely, I too hate the way the characters—at least the male ones—always handle stress by getting drunk. Which always seems to result in an accident or unplanned pregnancy. However, in my experience many men do handle anger this way. When my brother was going through a divorce he drank heavily. For a number of years. Adding insult to injury of course...but it seems to be a common, albeit destructive attempt to cope.

Greetings Rgv Chick. Paloma is a piece of work, isn’t she. Glad she only spent one night at Diana’s. She really seemed to be coming on to Camilo. And maybe Mauricio as well. Yikes!

MAÑANA

Thank you for your recap, Judy. Perfect title, too!

I may not get to watch this until tomorrow. The good news --- we switched our cable provider today, from ATT Uverse to Comcast/Xfinity and the nice cable guy got the connection going in time for me to record today’s episode. Yayyy!

This telenovela doesn’t look like it will slow down. Just one disaster after another. Reminds me of the line from that old movie --- 'fasten your seat belts; it's going to be a bumpy (night) ride.'

I never liked Mauricio from the first time I saw him. Body language. They have a good actor playing this role, since I read him immediately.

I honestly cannot see Monica as a stepmother to that wild pack of children who act like they were raised by wolves. She seems to like calm and does not appear to have much in the way leadership personality. The would run roughshod all over her.

MAÑANA

Doris, glad you could get the new box set up quickly to record. And remember it's also on late at night if you miss it. Our DVR records both automatically.

Mauricio certainly did look furtive from the get-go, didn't he? He played a nice fellow in Color de la Pasión, but his dark, brooding looks certainly lend to the bad guy image.

Now, ahem, Monica "as stepmother to that wild pack of children who act like they were raised by wolves." Spoken like a Mom!

For one thing, there's that strange mantra they seem to repeat, especially Regina..."That you don't share a problem until you have the solution." So that's her rationale for not giving her parents the news about the pregnancy. And Barbi seems to be all grown up and ready to move on with her life. Cristobal is an immature jerk (apparently) and little Nico is...well, little. Not sure where Monica would fit into that rabble, but she definitely keeps Camilo on point at work.

But I guess I am also bothered by the fact that Diana seems to think she has to arrange her husband's love life subsequent to her real or imagined death.

BOUNDARIES, people, BOUNDARIES!!!!

Except no one seems to have them in telenovela land. And it may not be a Latino thing either. Certainly there are a ton of cultural differences between the Anglo-Saxon stiff upper lip and the very expressive, meddling enmeshed families we see in these stories.

But hey, it's just a story, just a story, filmed in blazing eye-shredding technicolor.

MANANA
JudyB--Sterling turn of the pen, or, well, the keyboard. Loved it all. It seems the Patio has the same opinion of the kids. Barbie seems the most normal, she goes to school, cooks for the family, even tempered, has a "nice" boyfriend.

I'm going to give Mauricio a pass for the time being and here's why:
1) Rafael seems to be too interested in the financial affairs of MediaLink; 2) he's utterly too cute; 3) has an odd sense of fashion; 4) and we have NO proof other than an old photo that he is Almudena's and Camilo's son.

I have a creepy feeling about our adoptive couple, too. They seem to be too effusive, trade too many mi vida, mi carino, mi amor, even for a couple married for 5 years. Is it possible they are part of a baby-selling ring? Actually, what gave me the idea was Mely who commented on how sterile looking their home was.

This could all be intentional and they will be who they seem to be on the surface.

Bright Orange is the new Orange in Technicolor. Diana has consistently worn something orange in every episode, so far (well, maybe it was only two tn days). She does accessorize it with turquoise necklaces--very nice.

MAÑANA

Wow, Anita, you're scaring me now. Rafa as snake in the grass, and the uber-cheery married couple as baby traffickers. Dang it, now I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight! My mind will be worrying over these pretend problems though, and it's always good to take a break from my very real ones.

And besides, it's just a story, just a story.

And yes, nice accessorizing the orange with turquoise. Is it time to update our wardrobes?

Wow....this is a fun and chatty part of the patio. I guess I will have to try to give this a peek. I only saw the good-looking guy tucking in the little boy. I like color.

MANANA

We’d be thrilled if you’d join our chatty little Patio Susanlynn. We’re hoping that the afternoon shows are a little less dark than the nighttime ones, although we had some righteous villains on the last one. So jump in, the water’s fine...so far!

MAÑANA

"Rafa as snake in the grass, and the uber-cheery married couple as baby traffickers."
That is very perceptive and went right over my head while I was watching. But I can totally see the possibilities.

MAÑANA

JudyB, thanks for your recap! It was a great fun read, as were the comments. I had a busy day and haven't watched the episode yet.

I sometimes enjoy watching this way, after reading the recap, because I now know what to especially look for. Like orange and turquoise accessorizing.

I'm undecided yet about looking up "turquoise". Maybe I'll just let myself be surprised.

Susanlynn, it's nice to see you here. So far this TN only really shows signs of being fairly light-hearted and I'm hoping for HEAs all around.

:-)

andy

Andy...hi. I may try to take a look at this show. I am not sure about the storyline as a spirit lifter, but it could be a distraction for awhile.

Turquoise is a beautiful blue\green color. It is also the name of a gemstone of that color that they use in a lot of Southwestern jewelry. . It is nice that the patio is becoming a source of fashion advice for you.

MANANA

Judy, I loved "Diana, dressed in lurid oranges and blues" and "Granny, in chronic berating mode".

You always find the gold among the silt.

"Diana quietly tells her "Mamá, tengo cancer de mama" [breast cancer]. And for once Eugenia wisely says nothing. And gently clasps Diana's hand". Oh dear..

It seems a loyal patio has assembled for this and I am glad. I am not able to watch so will pop in from time to time to say hello.

Wishing you all the best.

Diana

MANANA

Diana--Every time I type Diana's name, I think of you.... Of course, you look just like Alejandra Barros, but aren't anything like her. Nice mental picture, though. Do you wear orange and turquoise?

Stop in often. We love your comments. This tn is actually not that hard to follow without seeing the episode, as long as someone covers the episode on Caray. Suerte!

Does anyone else out there think that Reggie is treating her pregnancy in a rather detatched manner--just another object she owns, like her smart phone, her stereo head phones, one-shouldered overalls? That gives her the right to divest the object in any way she pleases?

MAÑANA

Anita - now that you mention it, Regi is just as detached and pragmatic about her baby as Diana is about her cancer, finding her replacement, and anticipated dying.. Perhaps the fruit has not fallen far from the tree.

MAÑANA

Hola Diana. Thanks for stopping by. We love it when you do. It's hard to stay connected just through recaps though. So we really appreciate it when you join in.

On the Reggie pregnancy question, I think at the moment, her embarazo is Just a problem she needs to Solve per the Family Mantra. But she may feel differently when that baby starts to move. Although we had an unfortunate case here recently where the pregnant girl in question just couldn't wait to get rid of it (but not through adoption) and then was exulting over having her flat stomach back again.

This will be an interesting plot point to watch. Here we are, just at the beginning, and there are so many possibilities to speculate about!

JudyB, thanks for your very entertaining recap. It is great seeing you recapping. You sure have the talent for it. Wow! You were in Río for carnaval back when it was “exotic.” I love it! I caught some of this last night/early in the morning and the pacing is something of a relief compared to what I have been watching. Aside from the impending doom due to the cancer diagnosis, this looks like it could be fun. I would have rather seen Diana die quickly in some kind of accident like a car accident.

Thanks for checking in Jarifa. We'd love it if you'd watch this with us.

It was just a lucky break to be in Rio at Carnaval time. I was teaching French at a small college and I had the month of January off due to some unusual scheduling of classes. Met a Brazilian friend I had worked with in Vienna, and another I had known in Paris. And had a wonderful time. One of my friends was distantly related to Jobim so one night we went to his house for dinner (which got served at 2 am!), but all that time we were listening to guitars and the songs of the lyricists in Brazil who are regarded as poets. Jobim himself was in the States recording an album with Sinatra. But his house was open to all his musician friends. Every day and evening of that stay were unforgettable. The Schools of Samba were so loud and so hypnotic, I felt like I had been pithed like a frog. But wow...what a head trip. Who needs drugs when you've got samba music like that.

Well, not sure where we're going with Diana and her projected death. Maybe she won't die and then she has to deal with having pushed her devoted husband to fall in love with Monica. Uh oh!

MANANA

Thank you Judy and Anita.

Anita, I'm happy that you think of me. You'd be surprised how many times I've been told that I look like Alejandra Barros' younger sister :) If only... It's been far too long since we've watched something together. I am hopeful something will be scheduled in the evening that everyone will be able to watch. I still savor your marvelous Un camino hacia el destino recaps. Ahhh Horacio.

JudyB, thank you for sharing your Brazilian adventure. “I felt like I had been pithed like a frog” made me smile. It sounds absolutely magical.

Oooh, now that would be some plot twist!

"MANANA":

Jarifa: Who are the Antagonists ?

Judyb..you have lived an interesting life. Your story made me think about the joie de vivre that all the Brazilian students I have taught or tutored had....men and women...a dentist, an artist\school administrator ,a law student, a business man, a pharmacist.... All fascinating, joyful people .

Hey Susanlynn...that jibes with what I felt...for the most part. Although my friend Sylvia was, on the whole, very serious and self-disciplined. But she had very strict parents. But I went to a dance at the Brazil pavilion when I was in Paris. And it was just a wild, joyous dance like crazy time. And in Rio, everybody seemed to be singing-- the guy on the beach selling "limonada", the construction workers taking a break, playing guitar and singing also, everywhere there was music and laughter. Although I'm quite sure it's not as simple as that, it was sure different from the grim or blank faces we see on the urban streets here. Warmer climates, warmer people. What can I say?

Judyb...your last comment made me think of a lovely young architect from Mila, Italy who was in my classes. She went to a concert , and The next day, she asked me how Americans can go to a concert and not move. Hub and I used to go to a huge local music festival. A gentleman and his wife were sitting near us , and when he saw my foot moving to the beat of the Latin and, he invited us in Spanish to get up and 💃dance with them. I had many students who were wonderful dancers. Those from Brazil loved to give speeches about Carnival.

Ah you're making me smile, Susanlynn. And it goes without saying that the student in my classes who was the most enthusiastic dancer was the gal originally from Bogotá, Colombia. Good memories. Glad you have them. And me too.

MAÑANA

Don't know what others are planning but I will provide a Friday recap again this week.

Judy - I can put something up for Wednesday's episode.
